1. Copyright confusion - This isn’t a review. I purchased Over the Rainbow to add to a slideshow I made for my daughter’s birthday and it was blocked and removed from Instagram for “copyright issues” by “Die Supernanny...” My understanding is I can use such a song in this capacity because it’s not being used for profit. She’s only and it’s one of our favorite songs due to it being a reminder of her grandmother who passed away. I have the ability to unblock, but I don’t want to face any issues.
Can anyone advise? Thank you!

2. Moved to tears - I just bought the album. I haven't even listened to all of the songs yet, just a few introductions. I'm writing this with happy tears welling up in my eyes. We just came back from our second trip to the magical rainforests and waterfalls of Maui, and this music is filling up my heart with Aloha all over again. Every time I need a reminder of all that is beautiful in this world, I'm going to play this album. Live with Aloha and Mahalo! Love and gratitude, always.

4. Surprisingly, disappointingly awful. - I know this album and artist are highly regarded and have received stellar views, but I guess Iz's style is just not for me. I found the tune selections ("Take Me Home Country Road"?) arrangements, and performances uninspiring, even cheesy. I wanted to like this and tried hard to, but didn't succeed.

1. So Pleasantly Different!! - This guy is so amazing!! His voice is so... calming and soothing. Music now has like, curse words and nasty... um... topics in them, but every once in a while, you find something actually worth listening to!! I read a review where a woman walked down the aisle in her wedding. This one was playing and she cried the whole time! It was so sweet!! Some songs really draw people closer together.

2. Must buy - Israel Kamakawiwo'ole was an amazing man, when I heard about his death a few days ago I set out finding something to pull me out of the tough break up that I had recently. Somewhere over the rainbow is the song to choose because of how heavy this man was, his voice is soothing and truly soulful. Buy this song and the album for this amazing man to honor his legacy

3. Rainbows come from Storm Clouds... - ...and even on your darkest day music can help you process. When he sings "Somewhere over the Rainbow," it fits both your best and worst days. Melodicas accompaniment and soothing tone is the perfectly baked comfort food for your soul that Israel Kamakawiwo'ole is delivering with every strum of his ukulele. His pitch ranges while still keeping your pulse at the optimal resting rate. You need this song in your collection as much as you can't get it out your head when you only hear the first seconds.

4. Even the dude who likes metal enjoys it - As much of a fan I am of metal, hardcore, and other weird music I have a soft spot and it is big IZ. I myself am named Israel and its cool because I play the uke also! But anyways this is so peaceful and always brightens my day from the start! I love this music and hope to one day pay respects to this man by visiting his lovely island! Aloha brotha!

5. Beautiful - This music is so peaceful and amazing. I would rate it ten stars if I could. And to all the losers who don't like his music because he is over weight can go jump off a cliff for all I care because I bet that all of you people who dissed Iz are fat and stupid looking!
(Sorry if I got a bit carried away their : )

1. Totally Unique, Original Acoustic Guitar Style - There is no one else like this delightful pair of ex-metal guitarists who developed their own very unique acoustic guitar style many years ago. Gabriela's complex rhythms are a very original blend of muted string and extensive guitar surface purcussive techniques that provide a broad array of sounds. Many other acoustic guitarists today are employing guitar surface percussion in their performance, but no one comes close to the complexity or variety that Gabriela is capable of. Rodrigo is a consumate shredder capable of lightning-fast yet extremely precise riffs. It is one thing to accomplish this level on an electric guitar with low string action and close string spacing, but it is a completely different achievement on a classical guitar! A must-see (hear) in person. They rise to incredible heights across their later albums culminating in the amazing collaboration on the C.U.B.A. album.

2. One problem - I LOVE this album; however, there seems to be a technical problem with it. About minutes into the third track (Vikingman) there is a or second interruption from static — not just static but a voice, kind of like a radio station that’s losing reception. There’s also some almost imperceptible static leading into this song, but it is much less annoying. I contacted iTunes customer support and was provided with a fresh download, which had the same problem. I then purchased the CD from Amazon — same problem. So, this isn’t an iTunes problem, but you should be aware that it’s there. I would’ve given stars if it hadn’t been for that one unfortunate glitch.

3. Phenomenal - These two are amazing musicians. This isn't your average type of guitar playing. This has sooo much character to it. You really need to watch these two play to understand the complexities of the music they write. Hearing is only part of it and the album is worth it but if you ever have the chance to watch them live you have to do it.

1. Why are they screwing us? - OK so this album is not only slightly more expensive via itunes music store, it is also cursed with Digital Rights Management (DRM) and only AAC. You can buy this online via Amazon for . less, K bps MP (which admittedly probably is not much better than AAC) but with NO DRM! Who would buy this from itunes when Amazon offers a better deal? Poor Apple, bending over for Sony once again.

2. Irish Drinking Songs - This album is a delightful mix. I discovered it by accident, and am happy I did. It has a lively beat, the lyrics are hysterical. Overall it is a fun listen. My year old son loves it, and while some of lyrics may be a bit much for most kids, he thinks they make a case for not drinking to excess, rather than encourage it. Go figure.

1. Okay - Alright this music is okay in the way of Hawaiian music. It is listenable and I did not hear a single Steel drum (which are not even Hawaiian to begin with). But to me, true music is artists like IZ and Hapa. And for all of you who think Hawaii is nothing but beach, surfing, and drinking juice out of a pineapple then you have obiviously never been there. Because I go there to ski! at Mauna Kea.

2. Hawai'i The Way It Used To Be! - This is the kind of music you really associate with Hawai'i. Try a cold beverage under the big banyan tree at the Moana Hotel on Waikiki Beach....with this luscious music playing all round you....and you've defined paradise. Seriously, the recordings here are of very good quality and executed faithfully. Whether you're hosting a luau at home, or nostalgic for the old radio shows like "Hawai'i Calls", these tunes are sure to make you book a ticket to the Islands. Mahalo.

3. BEAUTIFUL, BREATH-TAKING MUSIC FROM HAWAII - This music is just magnificent and beautiful. This Hawaiian music will take your breath away once you listen to it. The ukelele and steel guitar and the other instruments are so peaceful and soothing. You can actually picture yourself in Hawaii and the palm trees and everything you can imagine. This music takes the tunes and beats and maybe even the culture of Hawaii to an awesome album. Some songs are fast and some are slow. Some are actually very familiar to most people like Pearly Shells, Tiny Bubbles, and Aloha Oe. These songs are like most of Hawaiian music, but seem to have a different feeling and beat to it. Some people think that some Hawaiian music is slow and boring, but it is actually relaxing and very soothing and breath-taking. These songs are not like those loud pop music or rock music. This Hawaiian music is relaxing. Hawaiian music is one of my favorite music to listen to because it takes the tension and stress out of any day and relaxes you. This CD is excellent and has a mix of beautiful instruments, like the steel guitar and ukelele which is what makes Hawaiian music so beautiful and unique. Buy this CD and songs!!! You won't be sorry!!! Aloha!!!

4. Ultimate Tiki Tunes - If you want to take a trip to Paradise in it's Golden Hayday, this album will send you there. If you close your eyes and listen you'll be transported to Hawaii of yesteryear, not that they don't play this music regularly there, just where they play it. Usually in an intimate little cozy bar or out infront of the Hilton or the Royal Hawaiian Hotels on the beach during sunset, after your dinner...get the picture? Are you there yet? Trust me, I grew up there and this is the real McCoy, the good stuff! Cut yourself up a pineapple, pour yourself a Mai Tai in it, (don't forget the little umbrella and cherry) sit back and relax. Every self respecting Tiki Bar owner MUST have this album for authentic ambiance! Enjoy and Aloha!

1. Absolutely Wonderful Music!!! - Jolie Lives-// Honestly, I have no idea when R y G put this album out and it doesn't matter. Their phenomenal music is perfect, rich and timeless! While listening to the album, I thought about Carlos Santana playing with R & G. Though that much Great is probably illegal, if not then, certainly today! Santana you say? Yes, these musicians, their talent and genius, is absolutely the Real Deal! I was fortunate enough to have heard the last track on this album and then find the album here. Thank you iTunes and SZ! The music they create is lush and incredibly sensual.
Listening to it, I'm reminded of sights and sounds while growing up in Spain. I watched couples dance to live music, which is woven through the music on this album. I remain awestruck by the musical phenomena the two extraordinary musicians (R y G) created, as an homage to the musicians they respect, admire and were/are indubitably influenced by.
While in Spain and more recently, spending time in Germany, with many dedicated and seriously devoted Tango, Salsa and Meringue Dancers. (Many of whom moved to Berlin from Brazil and Argentina and earn their living as Professional Tango, Salsa and Meringue Dancers.) I am struck by the continual growth and the passionate commitment, combined with a sincere love that's not only growing the numbers of people who adore the music, but the increasing numbers of passionate people in many Countries, who love Dancing to the Music.
The dance, like the Dancers exemplify the physically demanding expression of the multilingual and faceted layers of the music. The dance commands highly impassioned, dedicated and disciplined athletes to bring gracefully charged electricity to the space where they continue to perfect the personification of the Music through Dance. Heat and humidity filled the mountainous regions which literally seemed to still the air around the small towns. I grew up in many Countries over a few years. After Switzerland, Austria and Germany, the family headed South. Towards Spain, during our travels through Europe. Bill worked for Time/Life and he'd appear and disappear while Connie and my younger brother and sister and I stayed on in whatever town he'd left us living in. It was always an education!
The sun had passed through the sky and was already behind the mountains that surrounded the small little town. We were living twenty kilometers from the tiny town. Mother was screwing the Butcher, actually I have no idea what she was doing, nor what my siblings were doing either. I however was watching the wooden platform in the center of the town. Men with guitars would climb onto wooden raised platforms with small wooden boxes. They'd sit on their boxes and tune their guitars. Their friends brought them drinks and they then would sit on benches outside of the buildings surrounding the open area. As they began to play their guitars, they seemed to disappear into the music their nearly invisible fingers created on their guitars. A woman would appear in a tightly corseted colorful dress. The many layers of ruffles of her long, full skirt would begin to swirl as she began to dance. She'd begin to click her invisible castanets in both her hands as she danced. A man, in tight black pants, highly polished shoes with heels and a lose white shirt and fitted vest would join her.
As they danced, the music would become faster and faster, making the underlying layers of ruffles of the woman's skirt separate. Like the petals of an aromatic flower in bloom.
Hypnotic, the Music, the Dancers, the combined images and sounds pulled my five year old heart and mind into an incredible unraveling sense abandonment. The guitar music encapsulated hundreds of years of history and was played with the energy of huge waves, cresting, then crashing into themselves. Far out in the sea, in dark, deep waters that contained unfathomable mysteries. Sometimes at night, I could see fishermen's boats, because they'd light lanterns and hang them out over the water. I was told that the light attracted fish to their nets. I don't know, but it was very pretty to watch. While the Dancers moved with grace, skill and sensuality, they danced on the crest of huge imploding waves. During their dance, the connection between the truly professional or elite Dancer and the music was so strong that even though they seemed to be dancing in deep waters, they never get wet. When mother would grab my shoulder and physically turn me away from the passionate public display of unforgettable guitar music and the dancers, whose movements made music corporeal, I would blush. I know because she'd ridicule me for the heat I felt, rising up my face. Even with her claws digging deeper into my shoulder, as she'd march me to the lima bean shaped Fiat, I could still hear each cord the guitarist drew from every organ that the gut strings were made from clearly. My body still felt the cadence of the heels and taps on the dancers shoes, as they danced and stomped the surface of the wooden platform I had been just tall enough to rest my elbows on as I'd listened to and watched their magical music and dance. Even as she'd drive us out of town, I could still hear their music play, for quite a while before we got home. Inordinately, I'd be punished as soon as we arrived at our rental home or apartment if Bill was off doing something for Time/Life.
When I listen to this album, I am transported back to these beautiful places and the magical musical moments in other Countries. Though I still don't know how the beautiful dancing women could make their fans appear, suddenly open. With a mere flick of their wrists, their lace fans would open and as innocently and deftly as Southern Belles, the corseted and multi layered ruffled dancers would begin fanning themselves, to the rhythm of the music. They still held their castanets still in the palm of their hands!

2. Incredible and original - Incredible musicianship. Rodrigo is amazing, but Gabriela, on rhythm guitar trumps him and most guitarists. Think for a second: When is the last time you were blown away by any rhythm guitar parts. Mostly it's just strumming, right? Not here. Give this a listen, you will be amazed.

3. Fabulous! - Such an inspiration to us as guitarists. We play a bit more of a Flamenco / Jazz but our music will no doubt be influenced a whole lot by what RyG has created. Love the "grunty" punch they get from the nylon acoustic guitars. We play on the same guitars as RyG amongst others. www.ch.co.za

1. Iz Wonderful World - I bought the original recording years ago but somehow let it go….I bought this assuming wrongly that it was his original work…but no…it has been orchestrated and managed to cut out all the richness of his original sound…in a few cuts here and there they left his remarks..but the sound of his voice has been edited somehow, perhaps to take out background noise or something…but it ruins the man’s sound…I am grossly disappointed...

2. Inspiration can be seen - This makes me remember how lucky we are and how we should be the ones giving. Imagine someone In need. They want to see a beautiful place like Kauai. This brings me across many miles of ocean, and it makes me feel like I'm living in Kauai; Iz is one of my favorites and always will be, I still wish I could have seen him in concert, I wish he didn't become deceased. I will always love this gentle giant. If he were here he would keep inspiring me, as well as others. Thank you Iz. Thank you.

3. PEOPLE HAVE THEIR OPINIONS!! - Really, they do!! Personally, I don't love this. I wouldn't buy it, I wouldn't c this guy in concert (if he was alive) and I'm not a fan. But this guy is talented at what he does so kudos to him.
BUT, for fans of IZ, u don't have to criticize every person who doesn't like this. Now ur initial response will b " we weren't" but SOME OF U are doing it. And how is this tear jerking. I listened to somewhere over the rainbow ENTIRE THING and didn't cry. Don't say I just don't get it. Hey, maybe I don't, but who cares?? People have opinions!! That's how it works!
THINK: HOW MANY IZ FANS R FANS OF BIEBER? WELL EVEN IF U AREN'T U MUST HAVE HEARD OF BIEBER FEVER!! PRACTICALLY EVERY GURL LOVES HIM (except for people who aren't complete girly girls, ex. Me) !!!!! So if everybody loved him, he'd be the ONLY THING WE LISTEN TO. but since there r people who don't like him, he isn't supreme ruler of mankind. SO LET'S THANK GOD FOR OPINIONS!!!!
RIP IZ age ? Died of obesity at I think lbs.
I guess I'll have to check that cus it sounds impossible

4. Awful. An insult to Iz's legacy. - I really wanted to like this recording, since I'm a big fan of Iz's music. But after a few listens, I had to delete this from my library. The orchestrations are not only terrible and overdone, but they're poorly conducted as well. Track is a perfect example... where they took a clever little counter-melody from Iz's original performance, and beat it to death - over and over - on flutes, bells, strings. And since the original recording was loose and naturally played, it comes off sounding like a hack orchestra banging around over (and drowning out) a gorgeous small ensemble. These arrangements are so cheesy and predictable... they would be more appropriate if they were sung by the "Candlestick" character from Beauty and the Beast. And that's not meant as a knock to Disney; their film scores are beautifully written. But this is an insulting attempt to emulate their style, completely altering the original tone and spirit of the artist and his performances. Whoever is in control of Iz's estate should never have allowed this to be done with his original master recordings. Shameful. If you're a fan of Iz's honest, genuine original recordings, avoid this commercial trash like the plague. Unforgivable.

5. Still the Best of Hawai - I generally don't like re-dos of previous recordings, but this enhances Iz's songs; it doesn't detract from them. If the orchestra was an awful sound it would be a letdown, but the orchestra beautifully complements the sweet, relaxing sounds I feel when I think of those blowing trade winds. I lived years on Oahu and get a bit teary-eyed when I hear him. This is a great edition to his other albums and reaffirms he is and always will be Hawai'i's best!

6. Deep Beauty - I'm sure many of you have hurt- and beaten the pain- gone on with your lives the losses accepted. But here is pain transformed. A miracle with intructions for you to follow. Go ahead. Transform yourself, experience beauty far removed from the pain that gave it such incredible depth. Experience life with an empath. When you can cry for yourself you can die. When you can die, life becomes precious. You can finish the thought... . Thanks, Iz.

7. great song writer - his music gives all of us hope and it brings your emotions out in the open. his music will fix that broken heart or fill that empty space you havein your soul. he was a beautiful and his music gave love and insperation to all who listen and no matter how tough or sensitive you are your true feelings will pour out like a river of love and joy! he made this music because he love all of us show that you love back and buy his music or at least listen!
2009-01-19
8. Overproduced... - I hate to be the (apparently) sole voice of dissent on this album, but as a fan of Hawaiian music and Iz in particular (I have over Hawaiian CDs) I found this work to be overproduced, and has lost the sweet charm and simplicity of Iz's voice and his ukulele, and the feel of the islands. The orchestral backdrop simply does not fit his style and overpowers the listening experience. I looked forward to this work, but was disappointed in the result.

9. Home! - At first, I didn't know what to expect... As "wonderful world" began with the strings, i wasn't sure on how to react... Until Braddah Iz's voice came out! I started to cry!!! I was in a freakin starbucks man! But I didn't care! The more I listened, the more I was back home on my little rock! I can't say anything else about it! An album that could let a man forget where he is and to put him home. Takes a lot of time and effort. Great Work, Mahalo nui loa! Fa'afetai lava! Danka! Merci boucoup! Arigato! Thank you for giving a loco boi the chance to go home without a plane ticket!!!! Tasi Alofa

1. Superb - The music on this album is just exceptional, whilst I enjoy tracks & as any quintessential enjoyer of bagpipe music would, my favorite track on this album is track . It is strange, it does something for me that I can't explain, it's just an amazing song for me. As for the rest of the album it is also quite an amazing collection to have, definitely an album to recommend to friends and family who may also enjoy bagpipe music.

2. Just back from Scotland and the British Isles - I needed some bagpipe music to help me relive an amazing night cruise to the British Isles and this was just the ticket. I will never forget tendering into South Queensferry near Edinburgh and being greeted by a bagpiper and drummer. It brought me to tears. This CD brings me back to that moment and others like walking along the streets of Edinburgh and hearing the bagpipes being played. My favorites are "Scotland the Brave" and "Amazing Grace" two standards that will transport me right back to beautiful Scotland.

1. Beautiful and Peaceful Native American Flute Music - "Canyon Trilogy" is the unequaled masterpiece of Native American Flute music by R. Carlos Nakai, with songs. This album has some of the most peaceful, beautiful Native American flute music I've ever heard. R. Carlos Nakai is for sure one of the best Native American flute players of our time. Each song is beautiful in its musical delivery. The Native American flute is so soothing., extremely calming, relaxing and peaceful to the listener. One can imagine the sounds echoing through the canyons of New Mexico and Colorado. Highly recommended for anyone who loves Native American music and is a fan of R. Carlos Nakai and his music.

2. Almost magical in a classroom. - I teach middle and high school students, and days when they struggle to settle down.
The soothing tones of his flute work absolute magi almost immediately. They did of course have to tease me a little at first, asking if we were going to meditate in a circle or light a peace pipe (they are teenagers, after all). But they honestly love this music almost as much as I do, often asking for it when I am not here. Nakai masters more than the Native American flute.

1. The Soul of Hawaii - I was introduced to the late great brudda Iz on our Hawaiian honeymoon in . I remember hearing 'Lover of mine' for the first time during 'happy hour' at the resort we were staying at and was mesmerized by the haunting beauty of Iz's voice. I bought this CD the next day at the gift shop and still listen to it for its tranquil melodies that bring me back to the Aloha state. Highly recommend this CD. Iz was truly a special human being.

2. Hawaiian Heart - My father served in the US Navy, stationed at Pearl Harbor. I was lucky enough to grow up close to the Kamakawiwo'ole family. Here I learned of the Hawaiian heart. My mother and Iz's mother were very good friends. This allowed me to spend plenty of time inside the home of brother Moon. It was in these days of my youth that I first heard the sounds of Iz and the Makaha Son's. Their love changed my heart forever. Its such a blessing to now have his music availible to all via i-tunes. If your new to the sounds of Hawaii - this is the place to start. Aloha, Tim Jordan

5. In Dis Life - This song is OUR song. We used it for our first dance for our wedding. We dance to it every chance we get. My husband will play it out of the blue and ask me to dance. We LOVE this song. Just listen to the words. It's wonderful as all of his songs are. We miss bruddah IZ. We heard all of the semi trucks drive down the highway the day of IZ's funeral. It was the saddest day in Hawaii. We were having softball practice out near Pearl Harbor. We love and miss you!!!

6. A Heart of Gold - Aloha, I remember this concert, it wasn't in but before I left the islands. The Waikiki Shell was packed as we and most of Hawai'i sat on the lawn right outside to hear his voice. When he passed, all roads headed west following the semi carrying his ash. I grew up with his music, felt like a big brother ... I'm glad he is on itunes for others to enjoy. Mahalo, a hui hou.

7. brudda iz - Iv'e been listening to brudda iz for about six years now and as far as hawaiian music goes there are few who come close to him. If you like brudda iz check out The Makaha sons he was a part of them before he went out on his own. Others you should consider are Hapa,Mark Keali'i Ho'omalu, and Keali'i Reichel.

2. Support this guy... - I had never heard of Jake Shimabukuro until last night when I saw him play at the Baby Grand in Wilmington, DE. Nevermind that he completely captivated the audience and played a brilliant show -- the two things that really struck me were how genuinely humble he was & his positive attitude. Jake said at one point that it is fairly stress-free playing a Ukulele show because people come in with low expectations; however, being a guitar player, I left last night wondering if I really needed those extra guitar strings...

3. I'm surprised - I never really thought that I would just buy a song with the ukulele as the main instrument, but Im seriously surprised! The album is a feel good, peace on earth, happiness in a ukulele that is played so masterfully yet feels so natural. The songs are simple, yet you can't help but appreciate the music

1. Old New Old New - I had this album on tape back in and it had such haunting and yet beautiful sounds utilizing the pop artists at the time. I wore the tape out and over the years thought about finding it in digital format. With the emergence of philip philips and mumford and sons the sound has started to come full circle. I am adding it to my digital library and have a feeling that these old new songs and tones will be revisited as well.

2. Pretty Good. - Overall the album is fairly good. They are at their best with instrumental songs. This was a nice attempt to include some great figures in music. The song Long Black Veil is one of the all time great Celtic songs. It is even one of the all time Mick Jagger songs - which is really saying something. Classic. Some songs are fairly boring. When it comes to The Chieftains, more upbeat songs are their more engaging. Many songs on this album are slower and more languid. Coast of Malabar, for instance, is a very well written song, but in practice it's a snoozer. The importance of The Chieftains to modern Celtic and even folk music cannot be understated. They are The Beatles of their genre. Bands like The Pogues and Gaelic Storm are who they are because of The Chieftains. Much like The Beatles, however, they were not perfect.

3. A Must Have - This album is incredible in it's depth and stellar cast. The Chieftains do some amazing collaborations on this album. The clear standouts are "The Foggy Dew" w/ Sinead O'Connor to start. Her vocals send chills down your spine transporting you to the scene of the Easter Uprising. The Dunmore Lassies is another standout for anyone who is a fan of slide guitar. Ry Cooder does another masterful collaboration by doing the slide work on this one. The Lily of the West is a wonderful story of a lover wronged, told by Mark Knopfler. The chorus is played by the Chieftains. There is a good version of "Have I Told You Lately" adding flutes, and pipes. "He Moved Through the Fair" is another great one.

1. Universally enjoyable - I've seen people from all walks of life and backgrounds instantly love music once they listened to Celtic Woman. This group is one of those artists who just put out some solid products of many hours in the studio and practice on their own time. The vocals, instruments, arrangement, and everything else falls into place. I love the gestalt of the album. Some tracks stand out more than others as personal preference, but once you hear why others like the tracks you don't like as much, it won't take long to appreciate the detail they see. Overall, great fun for everyone.

1. Solid Celtic Christmas excellence - When the Celtic Christmas Podcast asked what are the best Celtic christmas albums, a bunch of people said The Bells of Dublin. I can't argue. Musically the album is fantastic. The Chieftains excel time and time again. They deserve the title Ambassadors of Irish Music. On the Christmas side, the album starts off a little slow to capture the Christmas spirit. But about five tracks in, the spirit takes over. There's also a nice mix of guest musicians to give it their outstanding international feel and appeal. Buy the album.

2. Eclectic Holiday Mash-up ... Chieftains style - This a wonderfully rich mix of songs for the holiday with the Chieftains tying it all together ... nothing cliche here. My favorite holiday album for many years. Take a look at the guest mix - Elvix Costello, Marianne Faithfull, Jackson Browne, Rikki Lee Jones ... who knows how they came up with this list but somehow it all works very well.

1. Also Includes Hayley Westenra - This album also includes Hayley Westenra, a Kiwi, that has be describe by a number of reviewers and artists as one of the greatist vocalist of our time. This may be the only album of Celtic Woman that includes her as she was with them only for a realitively short period of time before going solo again, as her professional career began around the age of .

2. Amazing - I don't care what anyone says. I love Celtic music, and the few Celtic songs they do sing, are beautifully sung. They're Irish Women hence the "Celtic Women." Celtic Thunder does the same thing, they're a group of Irish men singing other songs, with a few in Gaelic, their album "The Storm" though, that's almost all original music. I love Celtic Women and Celtic Thunder (the original Celtic Thunder group) they're amazing.
2015-11-13
3. Cheesy - I saw this group on PBS on the night of its annual auction. it's not that the women don't have individual talent, but the way they've been packaged is incredibly insipid as they sway and jiggle all over the stage. And the musical arrangements are oh so cheesy. If you like traditional Celtic music, stay away from this group.

1. I don't know if I'd really call this their "best"... - Usually, compilations albums are a hit or miss. Either they encompass all of a group's well-known and best-loved songs or singles, or they kind of miss the mark and don't really include anything popular. I feel "The Best of Delerium" is more along the latter, unfortunately. There are some great tracks, for sure, but it doesn't include enough from Semantic Spaces, Karma, Spheres II, etc. These albums were the peak of Delerium, in my opinion, when they combined industrial, electronica, atmosphere and some vocals to create a haunting, yet beautiful, sound. This album tends to focus more on the later works, the post-Karma days, which are fine but are far more "pop" than most of Delerium's pre-Karma work. This is the kind of album for the casual listener, the one who likes the group but just wants to hear their popular songs, the radio edits, nothing more. For those who really want to hear some of Delerium's best work, this album is not it at all.

2. a diamond in the rough... - thank you for placing on itunes! i wore this cd out when i first bought it.... although not very commercial and alot of people don't know about it whenever i feel confused or lost i close my eyes and listen to these songs. my future and direction in life becomes clear. not only that but i think 'paris' will be the introduction during my wedding reception. the music on this cd is magic, fun to listen to, and also enjoyable to dance along with! :D!

3. silence (radio version) - This song is fabulous! It's relaxing and beautiful and very...womanly. I highly recommend it for its soothing tempo and Sarah Mclachlan's haunting voice. This version in my opinion surpasses the others because it allows each element in the song to take its course and doesnt overdo the beats or the words. Once again beautiful!

4. Not bad as a compilation for the masses. - As the Album Review states, Delerium's "Best Of" includes their most dancable, fun, and catchy songs, without going overboard and trying to scare away potential fans. Honestly, a better title for the album could be "A Brief Introduction to Delerium." I commend the inclusion of all four major album titles by the time of this compilation's release, but I think the songs could've been more carefully selected to give readers a clearer depiction of Delerium's overall sound. However, that may be a hard task, since every Delerium album has its own personality, own message, and own feel.
2007-04-20
5. NICE... - People's opinions vary but when it comes to Delerium, none of their albums are "bad" or so called mediocre or just plain "OK". None of Delerium's work falls below the Star mark for me because of their beautiful melodic flow. As for this album, just buy it, if you like their other work you won't be disappointed. I enjoyed every song on this collection.

1. some of the best jazz funk - this album opened the world of authentic -'s afro-jazz for me. I also got it after hearing it on Broken Flowers, and ever since I've been collecting albums from Astatke and others of this period (T.P Orchestra Poly-Rythmo, The Black Santiagos). Dengue Fever takes from Astatke's rhythym.

2. Wow! - I just discovered this by a round about way - I was searching for the music from Nip/Tuck, and this is what I found! It's fabulous. I've listened to it every day since I bought it, in my car and throughout the day. It's the perfect music for entertaining, I love to cook to it! Buy this music - you won't be disappointed! My fave is Yegelle Tezeta...

3. Ehtiopian funk is good for the heart - I love love love Ethiopian funk/jazz. A friend turned me on to Mahmoud Ahmed when I was in a bad place and it helped me through as it continues to. It has a joy and sadness unparalled in most other forms of music I have heard. When I put on the "Broken FLowers" DVD and the beautiful music of Mulatu Astatqe began playing, I was in heaven. The film was weak, but the soundtrack superb if only for the reggae and Ethipian music. This mixture of traditional ethiopian scales against western instrumentaiton and arrangments is a wonderful and bizarre music. Like no other. Download and experience bliss and mystery.

1. Wonderful island stuff :D - I am a Polynesian and very proud to listen to this mans work because this is like true Polynesian music right here! The way he sings, how it's executed, how you can hear the Hawaiian island sound to it, etc. I don't know, it's just a wonderful album! I love keali'i reichel!
2013-07-17
2. Awesome - This is by far my favorite Keali'i Reichel album. I remember when this came out and absolutely everyone had to have a copy. His formula was very simple for this record, nice and easy guitar and a set of pipes the islands hadn't seen in a very long time. If you want to hear the vocal range he has, listen to Wanting Memories and then listen to Akaka Falls. His vocal range is out of this world. I've listened to this album hundreds of times and still love every single song on it. Especially Kawaipunahele, E Ho'i Ka Pili, Kauanoeanuhea, and Come Sail Away. I know a lot of people loved the song Kawaipunahele but I actually consider Kauanoeanuhea as my absolute favorite song on this album. Buy it. You'll definitely love it.

3. THIS IS WHAT DREAMS ARE MADE OF - When I was a little girl I dreamed of the perfect song. I would often stay up late listening to the faint sound of the mice below my floor and the trees in the wind. Just hearing the sound of nature made me so calm and serene with my immature life. One day, as I awoke now five years later, I heard this song and prayed to the earth and wind gods. My dreams had come true and this whole album is what dreams are made of. I say to you, Kauanoeanuhea. Sweet dreams, young child, sweet dreams.

1. Totally Great! - I'm like Shadow Dragon of the waters. I'm a kid who has always been fascinated by Japan ever since i went there in . I have decided now to learn the language, and while doing so, this music makes me feel not only relaxed, but helps me soak in the music and in some way learn from it. I luv this music!!

2. Great, Different Classical Music - This classical music of the East brings a fresh face to my music armada. Since I live in East Asia now, this music helps set the mood for study and work, and great for its opposite extreme, relaxation. The Japanese are known for their ceremony and their taciturn nature. This music describes that personality well. This is a great album for exploring the foundational sounds of Japanese Traditional Music, and it feels like you are one of the Samurai/Samurai-ess participating at the Tea Ceremony.
2007-06-04
3. Great - There is an excelent blend of koto and shakuhachi on this album. It portrays traditional Japanese music perfectly. The one thing that I have to say is that it would have been nice to also have some shamisen, but then again the album is "Japanese Traditional Koto and Shakuhachi." Nonetheless, this is a great album for anybody seeking fantastic and very traditional (yet still modern) Japanese music.

4. Ma - This album is an excellent introduction to traditional Japanese Music. Ma is/are the moment(s) between the played notes. This non-sound (it is not the same as a pause) is just as important in this old Japanese music as the notes preceeding or following. I studied the Shaku Hachi in Japan (Kyoto) for years, and this CD is every bit as beautiful as most of what I listened to during those years. The Koto playing is artful and sensitive, clearly Ms. Saeki was taught well and loves what she does. Mr. Ramos plays the Shaku Hachi with deep respect and class. A number of these pieces are from the th and th centuries and on this album are as fresh now as they were then thanks to two consumate musicians and artists.

5. No title... - This is superb music, inaccessible to many of us (myself included) as far as its prime meaning, however, we can learn much about ancient Japanese culture and the Japanese aesthetic sense through these beautiful recordings. They are extremely evocative of Japanese style and movement; simply, beautiful.

1. There is Blood Memory in this - I don’t ever rate anything, but to find a group that so eloquently and faithfully relates the history and culture of the Germanic peoples, my ancient forefathers, I found I had to. I discovered them studying the history of the Germanic peoples myself. I am glad that there are still many of the folk, my brothers and sisters, that are proud of their people, and celebrate their heritage. I pray to see the day where pride in Germanic culture is no longer confused and conflated with Nazism and White Supremacy, and the Raven Banner flies proudly above the burnt, trampled remnants of the swastika. I think this band will inspire many in that cause, and will be long remembered. ALU brothers and sisters.

2. World Music... - I doesn't matter what country you're from, this music is universal and primitive. I watched the live show on YouTube like other reviewers and it gave me chills, uplifted me and even made my blood boil at some points. The linear journey throughout the mesmerizing music is deliberate and each track is in the perfect place in relation to the others to form one long ritual that should be listened from beginning to end without exception. The visual aesthetics of the stage and the costumes can be distracting at times due to the overall beauty, spirituality and grimness they've achieved in the live show. This is a musical experience everyone should be partaking in. They deserve to get paid for creating this introspective view of ancient man coupled with primal music, the songs are extremely well thought out and intelligent. This isn't a cheap gimmick, it's a genuine tribute to Paganism and even the human condition. The theatrical stage perfomance is second to none and absolutely stikes true as authenic art. The music serves itself, devoid of any ego. No one person is trying to show off, everyone is working to make everyone else sound the best that they can which is a sign of the highest level of musicianship to me. I'll be buying all of their albums and you should too. Sorry I wrote so much but I didn't even begin to scratch the surface of what I want to say about this album, it's not easy to articulate what this music truly is and what it actually makes me feel. I just hope more people buy it, I wholeheartedly want to see Heilung succeed and many more albums to come. This is probably my first and last review on iTunes but if anything on here deserved my times to write a review, this was it.

3. Incredible - One of a very few albums where the album is significantly better than the studio recorded version. Saw this band on Youtube and it was incredible and so stoked to have them in my playlist now. That said, there is one thing that makes me cringe, and it’s no fault of the band’s. If you listen to the beginning or end of some of these tracks you can here one fan getting too “into” it, just giving these gutteral growls and screams. “Reeeeeeaaaaaaauuuurghhh.” And to me it’s like he’s looking for attention trying to say “Hey everyone look at me getting in on this barbaric spirit! Notice me!” I mean there’s something like that present in every album, but this guy stands out to me....so muc so that my review of him has now become longer than my review for the rest of the album. But I just can’t help cringing when I hear him and imagining everyone else in the crowd going

1. Thanks again Itunes - Album only, album only, album only. No wonder everybody is going somewhere else to get music. The strategy of only being able to maybe or maybe not get the tracks you want on a album to get you to purchase the entire album has to be backfiring by now. Seriously iTunes I have spent hundreds if not up in the thousands of dollars of my hard earned money on you but I am done. Getting them cheaper or free somewhere else makes so much sense now. Maybe I don't want the whole album due to the fact most albums are full of fillers anyhow and it's not worth it. Bye bye iTunes, good luck trying to stay afloat.

1. Israel, surely missed! - Israel, wow...I first heard his music while sitting inside a chapel to my friends wedding, instead of the traditional wedding song played during the walk in of the bride. I heard "Somewhere Over The Rainbow", it was such a emotional moving piece of music. I had to find out who this artist was, I've already have picked up of Israels songs on itunes and played quite often on road trips and people ask me who is that soulful singer. May the Lord Bless him in Heaven ..with a voice like a angel

2. E Ala E - I never knew this BIG man who was singing so beautifully on the stage was who he was--- the great IZ. I lived years in Hawaii and when I hear E Ala E, my heart soars into the ecstasy of a Hawaiian Heaven that exists in the soul, accessible through this song especially for me. Wind Beneath My Wings is another wonder. When I left Hawaii, this album was one of the greatest treasures I took with me. Listening to Israel sing with the sounds of the spirit of Hawaii takes me back to a place alive and well and prospering within my spirit.

3. E Ala E - I first met Israel while surfing at The Wall in Waikiki Beach. He was in his early teens, big– over pounds, and rode a paipo board. I recall watching him jump off the end of the Wall and one of the other surfers in the water remarked: "Thatʻs Israel, he sure can play ukulele and he can sing, too!" I ran in to him again in - during the resettlement of Makapuu Beach, by the Nation of Hawaii, an Hawaiian sovereignty group. Israel promised to support the movement with some music. E Ala E fulfills that promise. I have owned several CDʻs of E Ala E over the years, but, gave them all away to folks who expressed interest in the movement, the music and Israel. Listen to the words, hear the music and feel the resolve of the Hawaiian independence movement. Last week, I bought the album again, this time from the iTunes Music Store. It came down fast and started playing. It was like being with him again, all these years after his passing. His music lives on, inspiring folks from around the world to understand the plight of the Hawaiian people. I sat, still, for the full minutes and listened to brother Israel. If you know him from "Somewhere Over the Rainbow", buy this album, E Ala E and learn about the political side of Israel Kamakawiwo ʻole. Aloha from Waikiki Beach, Rolf Nordahl

2. Emotional, powerful, epic, legendary, viking. - I typically listen to metal. All shades of metal, post-prog, djent, doom, death, thrash and trash, power metal, opera metal, folk metal… even hardcore, post hardcore, groove metal, black metal... Maybe I’m just attracted to the epic Ness of drum grooves, as I am a drummer. But I don’t always listen to metal. I have a love for classic rock, I love swing, big band, anything throughout the s, s, and s. I occasionally listen to certain flavorings opera. I like s Indie. And, on occasion, I dabble in the world genre. This Music is amazing. It speaks to me on a very primal level. At the beginning of no shave November, I bought this album. I played it in my sleep, and woke up with an epic Viking beard, because it is just that epic. You will want to play this on an epic sound system like a large house stereo, a nice car radio, a nice set of headphones ... a PA system ... the subs at the IMAX theater...
Just don’t play it on a tiny little keychain speaker at the office, on a low volume setting. This needs to be blasted, so you feel the epic lows, horns, and drums in your chest. Listen to ODAL’s preview. You will instantly understand my meaning. This is music to be heard AND felt. If Klingons were real, they would prefer THIS on their “Earth Music Playlist.” This is mighty music that turns a scrappy boy into a manly warrior. Ladies, don’t worry, you won’t grow a beard or become more manly. However, you may transform into a valkyrie.
No one will judge you for that.

3. Epic - I am a recently new fan of Wardruna and loved their first two albums. "Runaljod Ragnarok" has to be the greastest so far. It's drivingly powerful on a deeply spiritual and primal level. I purchased this album just a few days ago and I swear that I haven't listened to anything else but this. It is earthy and raw but so breathtakingly beautiful at the same time. "Odal" has to be one of my absolute favorites, though there isn't a single track that I wouldn't play on repeat. It makes my heart pound and swell with joy and strength. I have never truly been moved by music quite like I have been with this. It resonates on such a very deep level. This album is absolutely perfect. The songs transition smoothly while remaining singular and unique. This is pure artistry of another time and world. Thank you for giving us something so powerful. Blessed be.

4. Not their best work - I'm a huge fan of Wardruna and their originality and ability to transport you on a journey through their music. In all honesty, this latest album is somewhat disappointing. It's missing that dark beauty that I fell in love with. Still worth a listen but pails in comparison to the first albums.

1. Calypso - Harry Belafonte - This song - "Day-O" is thoroughly burnt in my childhood memories along with "Man Smart, Woman Smarter" and most of the songs on the rest of this album that my older brother bought right around when Sterio sets were being bought. Both my brothers are gone, but albums and songs like this have me feeling like they are still with me. One question: WHO was the bass player who contributed so much to the flavor and sound of this song? He or she should not be left out of this picture.

2. Not Just Great - Classic - This album was in my parents' collection and one that, as a child, I requested frequently. As an adult I find the songs even more enjoyable. This is a GREAT pop album that seems to get better with age. This is, in fact, a better collection of Belafonte songs than you will find on the Greatest Hits disc. Truly a remarkable album.

3. A Family Favorite - I grew up to this music. My parents listened to this album during dinner when we lived in Panama. Later, my older sister would put this album on while we did our homework. She even made up a dance to "Come Back Liza." My favorite is "Jamaica Farewell" but "The Banana Boat Song" is alot of fun as well.

1. Disappointing - I'm glad I listened to samples first before I paid any money. This is terrible stuff. The fiddle player sounds like a Bluegrass player who learned a few Irish tunes and cut an album with some friends who also have no idea how to play Irish trad. Try listening to someone like Liz Carroll or Kevin Burke to understand what I'm talking about.

2. Great! - I love this album; I have been searching for something like this for a while now! And unlike some of the previous commenter, I like the electric instrumentation, and do not think it is out of place at all. It adds character. I would, however, caution against track , but overall, it is a great album, with a fresh, irish-esque sound. I highly recommend it!

3. Every song GREAT! - I have to say I've been looking for something like this for quite a while. I always find random tracks in other collections that I like, but never loving the whole cd. Not so here. I have my favs and the ok's, but I actually like them all. The only track I would caution against is , as it sounds a little too country hoedown-ish for me. But this is a great, upbeat, puts a smile on your face, and a dance in your toes group and that's exactly what I was looking for!!! And if I'm ever in Seatle, I'd make it a point to go see them live!

4. Solid - The Irish Experience is a solid collection of music. However a few songs throw an electric guitar into the mix that simply does not meld well with the rest of the instruments. Flogging Molly and others make it work because of their rock nature but these songs aret trying to blend that guitar with a more traditional flair and it simply does not work. Most of the album though does not have electric guitar in it and those songs make me swell with Irish pride. Overall a great package.

1. A lot of variety of music in one album! - I love the incredible ability this woman has to capture so many different sounds and aspects of world music and bring this variety into one cohesive album! Her voice is very clear and soothing and strong. The message of the songs also very deep. Love this album!

2. A maturing artist - As a singer myself I can tell you that Loreena McKennitt's voice isn't what it used to be--her low register and high register are fine but the middle where they meet is difficult for her, especially the transition between the two. I noticed it on her last album as well. However, the songs in this album are so lovely, particularly the title track, that it has become one of my favorite McKennitt albums. The songwriting seems less inspired by folk music and world music and is now more personal. Everything is warm and peaceful, but always tinged with melancholy and sorrow. Deeply touching.

3. Voice still as good as it was in the ’s - I am a big game thrones fan and listen to original scores from the show a lot. The Composers style reminds me a lot of Loreena’s music. I searched her on Apple Music to listen to some of her old stuff and was excited to find that she had this new album. In her s she still sounds absolutely amazing, I was pleased and surprised to hear that. I hope she does a US tour including of course St. Louis Missouri I have never seen her live and that would be incredible. Ages past, age hence.... Great album!

4. Heartfelt and Moving - It's been years since Loreena has released an original album. This album is both heartfelt and moving. While not as capitvating as her albums in the ''s, Lost Souls still captures my heart. While similar in ebb and flow as well as sound to her earlier works in the 's, it holds a fresh and more experienced sound. Stand out tracks to me are, "Ages Past, Ages Hence", "The Ballad Of the Fox Hunter", "Manx Ayre", and especially the title track. Very moving. Thank you Loreena for blessing us with your beautiful heart.

5. Beautiful... - Loreena has done it again. We have loved her music for many years and had the privilege of seeing her live at the Keswick Theatre near our home. This album is another masterwork, and grows more beautiful and meaningful with each listening. Thank you Loreena for bring us your art and soul!

6. Past her prime musically - When she began putting out albums they weren’t that great and as she progressed she got so good that her best albums were back to back successes. For instance the visit, mystic, the book of secrets, ancient muse, her Christmas albums were nothing short of exquisite music but after she got into a really bad fight with her traveling companion, her music went sideways. I no longer respect her as a musician because of the rage she poured out on a couple of people that worked for her.

1. Disappointed - I only want to buy the first two maybe the sixth but I'm not willing to spend six dollars for three songs. Also, the standard, as far as I've found, is to charge less than or equal to $. per song. You charge $. for five songs and $. for the last. But I do love the first two and sixth peices.

Nocturne: / Sort of the opposite of Awakening. Soft, lullaby-type song, which Chloe's voice sounds perfect with. Sailing: /. Beautiful and inspiring. The Foxhunter: / Mairead's fiddling is as incredible as ever, and this song is lots of fun to listen to and even funner to watch her perform it. Comparable to the Butterfly on their first album. The Water is Wide: / Lovely song, Lisa K. does an excellent job, plus I love the bagpipes they add. Bridge Over Troubled Water: /. The girls are as excellent as ever, and the song is good. Not my favorite though. Black is the Color: /. The song itself is pretty with a mysterious air, and I absolutely love Lisa L's voice (even though it's an awkward song to sing if you're a girl) Follow On: / This song is so brilliantly written and inspiring, and it would be one of my favorites, but the choice of accompaning instruments wasn't my favorite. Ave Maria: / The song is very pretty and very soothing no matter what your religion is. Chloe nails it once again. Teir Abhaile Riu: / One of my absolute favorites. It's lively and upbeat as well as inspiring with a Celtic air of fantasy. You'll Never Walk Alone: / Listen to this song whenever you're having a bad day. This truly is a song from the heart. A Spaceman Came Traveling: / Mysterious, fantastical, and inspiring song. This is the song that made me really fall in love with Lisa Lambe. Songs From the Heart: Walking the Night: / Beautiful song with beautiful voices to accompany it. Songs From the Heart: The World Falls Away: /. Lively and pretty. Guranteed to lift your spirits. A Woman's Heart: /. Sweet song with good lyrics, but not my favorite. The Parting Glass: / Brilliant, perfect end to the album with extreme Celtic-ness. Makes me feel happy (although nearly all of the songs on this album do.)

1. Que Vuelta - This album is by far the best Gipsy Kings album. Tampa, Bolerias, Como Siento Yo, Nuages are my favorite. I like the fact they only used thier instruments, instead of filters or beat boxes. Its a good acoustic album, free from the synth effects found on many of today's albums, showing how real musicians make real music.

2. Pure, passionate -- authentic! - Funny, but I was not a Gipsy Kings fan. Saw this album featured on iTunes and thought I'd give it a try. At first the rough voices turned me off, but the more I listened I began to realize that what I was hearing was "unglossed" emotion...something that never makes it to final recordings. The guitar work here is just exceptional. Drumming and handclapping really grab you...I use this album to "kick start" me during a long afternoon of writing. After a year, it's like an old friend who serves you up a cup of old-country espresso and hand-rolled cigarette. Enjoy!

3. Great Album - The Gipsy Kings have released a great new album with many of their old sounds, and many new sounds as well. If you are very stuck in your ways and wish to hear the exact same sounds every time an artist releases an album, you may be disapointed. Defineately listen to Como Ayer, Como Siento Yo, and Hermanos.

4. Patience is a virtue, rewarded with love - Like the reviewers before me, I agree that this album did not fit my imagined understanding of what a Gipsy Kings album should sound like. I am not sure what I was expecting, but I think it was something whimsical and light; magically capable of teaching the untrained dancer the passion of flamenco through no more than listening to the hand clapping, the guitar, and the throaty lyrics I knew I would find within. However, what I instead received was a heavy, passionate, and modern flamenco, something my untrained ear took time to appreciate. At first I played only a couple songs-those which seemed to fit my preconceptions-eventually working up to the entire album. My patience and loyalty to Roots was greatly rewarded by my own love for it, and it has become the type of album I can enjoy whether I'm driving, relaxing, working, or sharing an evening with friends and family.

2. Good Production - I'm a musician and I appreciate when music is well produced and executed- quality is of the essence with classical pieces. Schubert's Ave Maria is superb and Albeniz's Granada pristine. I see that the pieces were carefully selected and the album is soft and soothing tempo with depth- I highly recommend.

1. Twenty years - Somewhere Over The Rainbow, Israel's voice still makes me cry as his rendition is so lovely and I'm ill equipped to handle these strong emotions; all I can say is that this is my favorite version of the song and it's the only version that starts to play in my mind out of nowhere. (and I hear his voice when I watch the Wizard of Oz, and am disappointed when Dorothy doesn't match his notes! It's that powerful.) And, "What a Wonderful World". This is the only cover that I find beyond acceptable for this song and right up there with the original.

1. Amazing Album of Hawaii music - This band is absolutely amazing and listening to their music takes me back to my childhood on the islands in the early ’s. My dad had this album on cassette tape and would play it. Many classic songs and a definite favorite. I can’t say enough hope things about this band. They definitely represent Hawaii and the island music scene. Mahalo nui loa!

2. Brings good feeling and good memories - These guys are modern Mozart in that they compose songs of scenery, climate and culture. If you've ever driven up Olinda Road and then listened to this song with eyes closed, you can recall the uphill climb, turns and dips with the smell of eucalyptus trees, gentle mist against the windshield and cool breeze against your face. Artists strive their whole lives to do this and yet, Hapa manages to do this with every song. Amazing! I also think John Lennon is pleased to have these guys honor his 'oh my love' song. Thanks brau's. .

3. Hapa - Okay, the album title needs some explaining, as "hapa" does mean half, but should not be connected to the word haole in talking about Mr. Flannigan or any other white person for that matter. To understand what haole means you have to understand what the native people of Hawaii saw when they first encountered the missionaries and other foreign white people that visited the islands; most of these people did little to help the Hawaiian people, bringing diseases (i.e. small pox) and misplaced ideologies, and deserve to be held accountable - same as the many people who do no good for the native culture to this day (of various ethnicities, not just white). The word haole actually means the absence of "ha" or the breath of life that the Hawaiians shared by exchanging breath when they greeted each other by the touching of forheads. Because the white people did not do this, it was easy to identify them as haole; "ole" meaning none. Therefor to say haole as a reference to white people in general is misplaced, as many white people including myself have not lost this understanding of the word nor the respect that is due to the Hawaiian people, in being guests on the islands - I pray that the Hawaiians will have sovereignty again. Ikaika imua na poe o hawaii! Maikai na mele o Hapa!

4. Memories of the Islands - In January, , I found myself in Hawaii for the first time with the lady of my dreams. The relationship turned out to be "star-crossed," the grist of bad romance novels. The last day we were in Honolulu, after a week in Maui, we were killing time in a store before heading to the airport, and this album was on the sound system, playing Ka Uluwehi O Ke Kai. Almost never do I stop and listen to background music, but this was so compelling I asked the clerk who it was. She instantly recognized it as Hapa and I bought the CD. I have since bought everything they've recorded. The music is expressive, lovely, and finely crafted, and while the romance in Hawaii didn't endure, the music did. Highly recoomended.

5. HAPA - Bought album on a whim on vacation. Just getting started on Hawaiian music and bought this one blind. WOW!! Could not stop playing it and always brings tears to my eyes. It was really cool tourista driving on upcountry Olinda Road with "Olinda Road" playing on the car stereo. God blessed me the next year when "the boys" performed in a local SoCal theater and I took all my friends. years later my buds still talk about it.

6. Rock and Roller Buys Hawaiian - When my wife and I were honeymooning on the Big Island in you couldn't find a building in Hilo that didn't have at least one poster of two shirtless guys called Hapa hanging on a wall. We didn't know what all the fuss was about until, while browsing in a bookstore, we heard this album playing. We've been big-time fans ever since, seeing at least one of their shows every year and waiting for each of their new albums to debut. This album, Hapa, is their first and also their best because it is so consistently excellent throughout. I'm an old rock and roller, but Hapa got me to buy Hawaiian.

7. A Hawaiian Music Must-Have - Hapa is pidgin for "half", generally referring to one's ethnicity and being half haole (Caucasian); a fitting name for the group considering its two members. When they released their debut album, Barry Flanagan and Keli'i Ho'omalu Kaneali'i took Hawaii by storm. Hapa created a collection of songs that added modern flair to traditional Hawaiian music. A combination that eventually won them numerous awards and recognition. The opening track "Haleakala Ku Hanohano" gives you a taste of what you can expect from the rest of the album, but there are standouts like "Anjuli", "Lei Pikake", and "Ku'u Lei Awapuhi". Hapa's mix of instrumental and vocal pieces is well blended, showcasing both Kaneali'i's voice and Flanagan's slack-key prowess. The end result is an album that has become the number one selling album by a group in Hawaiian music history. Although the group has gone through some changes over the years, this remains as Hapa's best album and is a must-have for every Hawaiian music collection, especially if you enjoy slack-key guitar.

1. Simply Amazing - Israel Kamakawiwo'ole has the best recorded version I've ever heard of Kainoa. Seven songs feature new arrangements including a previously unreleased version of Paper Doll and simply amazing versions of You Don't Know Me, Sea of Love, I'll Be There and a joy filled version of Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World. This collection also features nine songs from his time with the Makaha Sons of Ni'ihau including the live version of Rusty Old Steampipes. This is truly unforgettable music.

1. The Heart of Hearts - This sublime collection of traditional and original Irish songs by Morrison and the Irish Heartbeat’s is the gold standard of Irish soul music for me. The exuberant joyful anticipation of “Star of the Country Down”, “I’ll Tell Me Maw” and “Star of the Vounty Dowm” is wonderfully counterbalanced with the heartbreaking loneliness and resignation of “Carrifurgus” and “Irish Heartbeat”. I’d give this album stars if I could.

2. Orchestre baka de gbine - Incredible to the senses -- enjoy the wonderful juxposition listening to toe-tapping music recorded in an Åfrican rain forest while walking to work past the Empire State Building and the Chrysler Building! Gets me ready for work, or ready to come home! Every tune is great but particularly like Sakwe, Helene, Le Peuple de la foret!

3. Pure Genius! - This music will lift your spirits, and it's really versatile - great for working out, cleaning house, entertaining, and dancing with small children! We love that it was recorded on an Apple PowerBook hooked up to a car battery, and that the proceeds will go to the people who recorded it. It's simply perfect in every way!

4. Let's get the country right if you're gonna give it five stars..... - From the Website that released the album: Gati Bongo is the amazing and compelling debut album by Baka Gbine, recorded live in the rainforest of Cameroon in and . It comes as the result of regular visits to the Bakaâ s homeland by British members of Afro-Celtic band Baka Beyond. Martin Cradick and Su Hart of Baka Beyond have regularly stayed with the Baka in Africa, taking and donating a number of guitars as part of a year collaboration. Using these guitars alongside traditional instruments made in the forest, the Baka Pygmies have created their own band, Baka Gbine - together with a distinct and irresistible musical style. The album was recorded using a solar-powered mobile studio set up under a giant tree deep in the forest, and completed in England at Martin Cradick's studio in Bath. Two songs from the album, title track 'Gati Bongo' and 'Mosumana Colle', were released on iTunes in January . Music is an integral part of life for the members of Baka Gbine and their community. Song and rhythm are essential to their lives for many reasons, including the sheer fun they bring. The Gati Bongo album captures this sense of fun perfectly, bringing this joyous, spiritual and vibrant music to an international audience. The album is a taster of what to expect when Baka Gbine tour the UK with Baka Beyond, at the end of April. Baka Gbine have never performed outside of Cameroon, so the UK tour is a rare opportunity to catch this incredible band. The Baka Pygmies are experts at raising what the Irish would call the 'craic' and what they call the 'Spirit of the Forest', so seeing them perform live promises to be an unforgettable experience. Giving back to the Baka Royalties earned by Baka Gbine are channelled back to the Baka musicians and their communities through the UK based charity Global Music Exchange. This money has already enabled them to win land rights and recognition as Cameroonian citizens, as well as funding the building of a medical centre and a beautiful 'music house'. These positive steps help protect the Baka's forest environment and unique hunter-gatherer way of life. Personally I wasn't particularly impressed by this album, but what do I know.

Good Job to everyone who made this music!

8. Puts you in a good mood no matter what!! - Listened to this album on a lark and now even the non dancers, and non african music aficionados in my circle can't stop tapping their toes. This music is relaxing and uplifiting at once. Wonderful rhythms. A great way to wake up, come home from work and mellow out at sunset - in short good all day. Add that to the fact that each album sold will help the Baka pygmies of Cameroon - and then tell me it's not worth buying. I dare anyone to listen to the title song and not start dancing. Any group of people who make music this good deserve not only recognition but preservation. Go ahead...just listen to it!!
