1. Absolutely Amazing. - I am just now being introduced to this young Lady and her Amazing talent… her Beautiful Voice that just makes you want to take a pause from all of the hustle and bustle from the day, kick back with a glass of red wine, and just chill in the ambience of flickering candlelight. Samara Joy is the epitome of Elegance and Excellence in Jazz for such a young woman and can easily take her place along side of the Great Jazz artists from times past. I’m so happy I came across her body of work.
What a breath of fresh air amongst black artists today… and I’m here for it!

2. Joy To Be Born To Sing - Where can one start to describe this Joy we are blessed to hear. What a Joy to be born with a song in your heart and to sing. Samara Joy is the real thing - period. We are lucky to feel and hear this Divinely Amazing Voice. Sing Samara - the stars have blessed us all with You!!

3. Phenomenal Talent - It is amazing to think this young woman is years old. Meaning her first album was probably recorded when she was . I can listen to every song on repeat and never get tired of it. I highly recommend this Grammy award winning artist. It’s not just about her age but more about her talent.

4. great - samaras maturation as an artist has been drmatci- an her choice of material is just so spot on -shes like nat king cole- she knows her limitations in range and dynmaics but masters her talent so wonderfully. her tessitura intonation pace and just so right on songs like guess who I saw today (sweeter than carmens version for sure)and Im confessin'...brfavo- she really ahs come a long long way in afew short ears

1. The greatest jazz album of all time - There isn’t much to say about this album that hasn’t already been said. This was the album that got me into one of my favorite genres of music: jazz, and I have to give it credit not only for that but also for the genius compositions on here.

2. HORRIBLE QUALITY RECORDING of a great album - I love this album and I own it in many forms. This particular recording is so bad you can practically hear your drunk uncle putting the LP on the turntable. There’s a scratchy quality to the recording and an ever present hiss. Buy Kind of Blue in ANY OTHER FORM, ANY OTHER MIX. Do not buy this particular version. Even at $. it’s heartbreaking that they’re ruining Miles Davis, his musical companions and all their great work.

3. Greatest music ever made - Miles’ finest work, one of the greatest albums ever recorded, Kind of Blue was and still is the definition of the umbrella term Jazz, although its ability to impart emotion among listeners spans music lovers of all preferred genres. Referred to by musicians as made in heaven — the airy, elevated feel a result of echo chambers and mic bleeding in Columbia’s th Street Studios — this album was an brief artistic endeavor from which Miles Davis chose to undertake to end the s. Universally lauded, Kind of Blue in the opinion of many, as well as I, could very well comprise of the most beautiful and artistic sounds ever impressed into phonograph records. This album is best listened to in the dark, where there is no light to bias your experience.

4. Essential Listening - In my opinion this is one of the greatest recordings ever made - ANY genre. years ago i listened to this with my girlfriend late into the morning our first year of college. years later, alone now, i STILL listen to this...late into the morning. It's timeless. It takes me deep into and out of myself.

5. This is Jazz. - This is the album that changed the face of American jazz music in . Between Brubeck, Davis, Coleman, and Mingus, a new face was added to what used to be only a two-dimensional square of bebop, and out came a cube, or better analogically, a sphere— the definition of improvisation had to be revised because of THIS ALBUM specifically! Buy it. There truly is nothing that will ever be recorded like this again.

6. My First Jazz Album - I recently purchased Davis' "Kind of Blue" and am glad it's my first foray into jazz. It's been hailed as the father of modern jazz, and it's chocolate-smooth rhythms, disciplined horns, tight but mellow grooves, and overall gentle compentence makes this effort a true classic and an historic watershed in American music. It's stately beauty and unrivaled skill creeps up on you and fills the heart with soulful sounds, made possible by the unique and peerless instrumentalists, including the great sax god John Coltrain. In it, I hear all the jazz that came after, encapsulated in this once in a lifetime jam session.

1. It got me through - I have loved this album since I heard as a child. I have played it during college, law school (especially law school!) and all times after. The album and disc have accompanied me throughout my life and the music, thanks to technology has been around the world with me. Often I play it at work because it provides a great atomosphere for thought, at home for relaxation and in the backyard for appreciation. It is that perfect glass of wine for your soul. Thank you Miles, Coltrane, Cannonball, Wynton Kelly, Bill Evans and Jimmy Cobb I would not have wanted to do it without you!!

2. Improv for chaos. - I used to a be a chef. Jazz helps the turmoil in a kitchen, not because it compliments it, but it nullifies the destruction that results in the creation. If you don't believe me, throw this record on when you put yourself in the mess of a Christmas dinner for , or Thanksgiving. It will soothe you like a strong drink with a promising kiss. Of course if you're here, you allready know what Miles did with this masterpiece and, what it still does to us.

3. Goes great with Coffee!! - I was first introduced to Miles Davis in High School when I took a summer class on Jazz history. I had a small appreciation for Jazz, but never knew a single thing about it until I took the class. Loved every minute of it. That same year during Christmas, a family member gave me this CD as a present and I've owned it ever since (almost years) and listen to it all the time! Not a day goes by I don't listen to it. "Blue In Green" is indeed my favorite track. I can sit down and enjoy a nice cup of coffee with that song as background music, like I am now. Love it!!

4. The Best Music Ever Recorded In the History of the Universe - This album is so amazing that it cannot be explained with the primitive language that is has been invented on earth. I call it primitive because of the mere fact that Miles Davis creates a language when he plays, like no other. This language is complex, yet simple. If there is a god or some sentient creator, then this is the language that he speaks.

5. I'm only mildly into Jazz, but it's hard not to love this one. - Every song speeks out for itself and is easy to reconise, each member of Miles's band does an amazing preformance on this one. I must say though, the track that saved this album from a four or even three stars, is the last track (long fast rocky edition of So What), I could see any act bringing the house down with that, let alone the band that seems to have inspired everything from blues to jazz to pop to metal.

6. Oh, Miles... - Like most albums by Miles, it seems like every time I hear one of his songs is like the first time. This version is also on the th anniversary LP CD. Tears started filling my eyes when I heard it for the first time on Vinyl. Even the false starts give me chills. Pure and simple, if you were to only own one Jazz album your whole life this would have to be it.
2009-01-25
7. The Video is not to be missed! - Although slightly altered from the original recording. The video version of "So What" retains the melodic breezy feel that will draw you in everytime! I liked how the trombones were included to add color to Miles' second solo. Was that Wynton Kelly playing the piano? Without a doubt, Miles and Coltrane were monumental in creating timeless jazz recordings!

8. It may be the best album ever recorded. - It is so good. I go long periods of time not listening to it, trying to favor more out-of-the-mainstream stuff. But every now-and-then, I'll get a little phrase from it stuck in my head and have to put it on. That happened about minutes ago and even though I have listened to this record hundreds of times, I am still amazed at how freaking good it is. Every musician was at the top of his game. Every note is crisp and precise. The innovation is unparalleled. The recording quality is as good as any I have ever heard. KOB is my desert island CD. If I only had one CD for the rest of my life, it would be that one. It's good as background music while I'm working, or I can put headphones on and really get into it - the technicality of the musicians, and the chord structures. Beautiful. There's a book about the making of KOB. I've read parts of it, but the concept of modality is pretty cool. And these guys nailed it. I think they recorded it in days.

1. Music to Live By - This album could not have come at a more perfect time. The multi-cultural tapestry that is woven through song is a reminder that we are more alike than we are different. The dulcet tones of China Forbes, Ari Shapiro, Rufus Wainwright, and others will gently ensconce you, allowing your mind to be forget all political turmoil and simply relax. This is Pink Martini at its best!

1. Great Tunes - Took me -something years to buy my first Kenny G album. I think I picked a good one. I watched a documentary on cable about Kenny G, and I never knew there was this population of imbeciles who just hated on Kenny G. I saw Office Space, so I knew there were Michael Bolton haters clubs out there. Get a life, people. Geez!

2. Amazing music - Amazing music great saxophone player thank you very much appreciate you
I will always love you forever but I don’t have really anymore money because my disability income has been hurt plus I can’t drive anymore because of my seizures disorder and nerve disorder if you still care about me you have to come to my home town in keithville Louisiana near Shreveport Louisiana I am really sorry about it all because I am really deeply in love with you and very much I am home alone but I don’t have anymore money because of my bills here I am on ssi and ssdi because of my seizures disorder

3. Don’t label it - We live in a time where everyone needs a label. You have to be branded this or that. How about just listen and if you like it, great. If not, move on. There’s plenty of music out there for everyone. Personally, Kenny G puts me in a calm mood. I like his melodies. I like the way he plays. If you don’t, try something else! What a world... smh
2017-11-16
4. It's not traditional Jazz, it's Kenny G. - If you're looking for Jazz music, go hang out at The House of Blues, this is Kenny G playing like Kenny G. If you don't like his music, don't buy it, but don't leave bad reviews simply because you're not a fan. No one is forcing you to listen. And for those of you bashing his talent, you're crazy, this guy is a master of his art and probably one of the best out there. The Soprano Saxophone was off the radar till he brought it back into popularly. Go be a hater somewhere else.
2016-10-15
5. Good easy listening album. - Kenny G. is a great saxophonist and the idiots that critize him on that cannot play a note on the saxophone. I do agree that to place him in the Jazz category he probably belongs in easy listening jazz.
Again it is your definition of Jazz. But since he has sold millions of copies of his albums, I think it is safe to say , he doesn't have to listen to negative people. The reason I gave him STARS is because , there were some better songs left off and I do not like a couple of his songs. But still good easy listening!
2015-12-17
6. Rude reviewers - Rude, negative reviewers need something more positive and effective to do. I'm all for constructive criticism but am so saddened by others needs to rip others apart needlessly. Yes I like him or no I'm not a fan with maybe an explanation as to why is helpful to others. There is a bible verse about the log in your own eye when you point out something in another. We all are people. Have some respect. At least for yourself.
2015-06-21
7. Wish I could give negative stars - Any jazz player or fan will tell you that this is not jazz at all. He attempts to pull off some pseudo-blues licks but he has a very limited improvisational vocabulary. This is fine if you don't know jazz but Kenny G is really painful to listen to as a jazz musician.
2013-01-01
8. Hey Michael Johnson - Only one problem buddy, your year old doesn't play the saxophone. You're just jealous because you can't play like Kenny G. His music makes me feel so calm. Why don't you try playing the saxophone and putting your music on iTunes, then I'll write a bad review of you and see how you like it, so just back off and leave Kenny G alone! I guess I am an… because I bought this album. Doing drills and trills on a horn DOES make you an experienced player, because you can't do drills and trills, whatever the heck that means. Apparently you don't know good jazz music when you hear it.
2012-12-12
9. Kenny G is damned good - People who say they have a two year old who plays better should get that kid recorded quick. Kenny G is the selling instrumental musician of all time for a reason. His skills are solid, but more than that, his soulful style sets him apart among all of his contemporaries. Jealousy from lesser musicians doesn't make this guy untalented, it just makes others bitter.
2012-09-08
10. Not Jazz - This is not jazz. Kenny G is not a jazz player at all. I would truly love to have him stand up on stage with a world class rhythm section and play Giant Steps or Cherokee beside Kenny Garrett. (Kenny Garrett and Kenny G are not the same person, Kenny Garrett is an actual jazz musician) and his overdub of one of the greatest jazz players who ever lived was a disgrace and an embarrassment to all the real jazz musicians. Go support real jazz. and go look up Pat Metheny's letter to Kenny G is you want a good laugh :)
2012-04-11
11. Love - I've always liked Kenny g and find him to be very talented. Not only is he great on the saxophone but the music that plays along with him is very emotional. That being said, I'm not sure why some people on here are so bent out of shape...if u don't like him don't listen to him don't give the man star, there's no denying he has talent.
2011-12-19
12. This isn't Jazz - This is easy listening. If that's what you're into, then go for it. Just don't try and call this jazz. As a bonus, look for what Pat Metheny said about Kenny G dubbing himself over "It's a Wonderful World" . I think he puts forth the general feeling about Kenny G among jazz musicians and lovers.
2011-10-11
13. .................................... - very unskilled musician, doesn't stand out from anything, doesn't sound good, boring, terrible
I find it hard to believe that ANYBODY has listened to this whole album in one sitting, and thats something that may never happen. Go listen to some skilled jazz artist, not this guy!

1. Love Supreme - Like drinking Petrus, this musical brilliance is only for the select few who were ordained to have the palate for heavenly musical tastes. Some will say, ugh not my style, old school - to that I say, “Balderdash” To the novice and misinformed musical mind...stick to anything but Coltrane. The rest of us know that this is the highest praised jazz song of all time. Listen, go to a time when media didn’t infiltrate the mind, violence, crime and sexual depictions were not the norm. Purity at its apex, this musical genius of a song is going back to a day when Love was Supreme.

1. Great vocalist, one for the ages - This young woman is incredible! I heard her on Instagram and was blown away. She sounds amazing on this album, perfect for a Saturday evening dinner party. But I have to say she actually sounds better live. There is a richness to her voice that is missing from the recordings. For real, she sounds better just singing in her room with a piano. I hope some live albums come out soon!

1. Fantastic sounds from the ’s - Only a child when I first heard this album & as I got a little older it left an impression. Still lovin these sounds. PLEASE, iTunes, give us at least the most popular tunes of this (& a few others of his albums)to choose as some ringtones & text-tones!
(Minus one star because, as another commented, the sound quality is not as it should be).

2. Great Sound, Great Album - This is the ultimate album for Herb & the TJB. And despite the nonsensical rant of sauntering the sound of this album is impeccable. The songs, of course, are all food titles, and cleverly arranged by Alpert. There was no actual Tijuana Brass at this time. The music was played by members of the Wrecking Crew. This album still sounds fresh and lively today. Perfect place to start if you've wanted to start listening to the TJB.

3. Apple Music Strikes Again - I like Herb Alpert. He is a legend. Unfortunately the volume level of this album purchased through the ITunes Store is quiet low compared to mps played on Sony NW Walkmans or the vynyl/CD. This is not a Herb Alpert problem. This is an Apple Music problem. Apple seems to acknowledge that some tracks/albums purchased in the ITunes Store
isn’t right, as well. How? Apple will allow IPhone users to adjust the volume level on individual tracks/albums purchased via ITunes Store ONLY AFTER a subscription to APPLE Music is obtained. Basically, you are wasting your money buying this album on the ITunes Store...unless you really like cranking up the volume of your stereo to hear it. If you absolutely must have this album in your collection, the cheapest route for best quality and proper volume level is with a CD and CD player.

4. Favorite easy listening album!!! - This album gives me a sense of joy due to the memories I have when I found it on Track and not knowing what it was and soon after my grandfather telling me about this album that he was unaware I had shortly before bought. Its a funny story to tell when in person and I’m willing to spare more details. Since then I’ve collected it on multiple formats except at the time of this writing, cassette. My favorite tracks are Whipped Cream and Love Potion No.

1. First Bass Player to get Radio Airplay - I was there...watching this version of Weather Report and I was stunned by the addition of Jaco Pastorius. If you are in your late 's or older, you'll remember hearing "TEENTOWN" and "BIRDLAND" Get a lot of airtime. I compare it to Cliffs of Dover and Trademark by Eric Johnson. Many years in the making and still marvelous whenever you throw the cd in. Thanks to Jow Z, Wayne S, Jaco P, and th rest of the crew on this album...it's as good as virtuosity has been put to work.

2. So Nice I Bought It Twice - Although I already own this amazing album on vinyl -- I acquired it new when I was a teenager and listened to it religiously back then -- I heard "A Remark You Made" while in a store this weekend and decided I had to have Heavy Weather in my iTunes immediately. After all this time and the all the music that has been made and remade, Heavy Weather is still a solid gem. Genius musicians at the apex of their talents.

3. Great album, lower price if you pay attention - I copied this from my own review on another music download service:
I like this album a lot, but I'm no expert in jazz so you'd be better off reading other reviews. However, I wanted to point out that since there are only songs at cents each, you can get this album for only $. if you buy each song individually, rather than clicking the buy album button. That's just over $ cheaper than the normal $. album price. Enjoy! Note: Since Birdland is 'Album Only' you can just buy it from one of the other albums it comes on. Also in response to the conversation about high school bands playing Birdland, check out El Dorado High School perform Birdland. It's extremely well done. You can find it on... uh... a major online video site.

4. Jaco was a genius - I heard Jaco's solo album and then this album (I had listened to Weather Report prior to Jaco showing up). I proceeded to have my fretless Precision Bass modified with J-Bazz pickups, a sunk bridge and a new ebony and birds-eye maple neck. It sounded as close to Jaco as I could get it (I still have the bass to this day). I sat down for a few days and learned Portrait of Tracy (from his eponymous album) and Teen Town (off this album) and never looked back. It's a shame he left us so early, but I guess with genius comes torture.

5. Birdland/Heavy Weather - This rendition of Birdland, I saw them play (- or there bouts).. at The Great Southern Music Hall in Orlando, FL. Long gone by now, it was essentially an old movie theater converted for traveling bands. What an awesome setting it was. I still hear them and see them in my mind... it was just an incredible show. They played an experience I'll not forget. "Heavy Weather" is a must have classic!!!!!

6. its the jazz bible - i am years old, and live for jazz. this album is definitly on my favorites list. i can't get enough of these songs. The percussion is mindblowing and it makes me want to listen more and more. This version of birdland is by far the best i have heard. It is way worth the money it is a must have in any jazz collection

7. One of the cornerstone albums of Fusion - The influence of this album cannot be overstated. Exemplary songwriting and playing propel this album to the pinnacle of a genre already crowded with incredible talent. As one reviewer mentioned, bassists were knocked out by Jaco's performance and compositions here, just after having gotten up off the floor from his solo debut a year earlier. And that's just one cat. Everyone on this date is cookin'! Others like Yayee can say what they want. He/she even mentions Jaco's and Wayne's virtuosity but then goes on to reveal him/herself to be not at all hep to what's happening here. "Cheesy 's synths?!" The album was released in so according to Yayee's own standards the synths are groundbreaking and ahead of their time! That many of these tunes have become standard jazz calls is a testament to the fact that "outside" and "corny" just aren't the right words to use. Certainly not everyone may not be a WR fan, but all who listen with an ear towards history and context can appreciate the heaviness showcased here. Definitely one for the "Must Have" column.
2009-01-27
8. beautiful and classic - i bought this on vinyl (as a teenager) when it came out, just about wore it out. i just re-purchased it today, and still love it. on my itunes, this album was listed as "partial" i previously purchased "birdland" from another album, so maybe that's why it's not showing up here. if for some legal reason it's not available as a part of "heavy weather" get it to make the album complete.

9. Genius x - Yayaee, you obviously are too young to appreciate what these legends did to change the face of jazz forever. What you call "cheesy" was innovative beyond its time. It is too bad you were not alive to see the band play live, and to understand the depths of their creativity and talent. Noone else since has had the guts and genius to do what WR did, and my guess is that if you commit yourself to the study of jazz and improvizational music, you will realize this too someday. This is a phenomenal album and it ought to be in every jazz enthusiast's collection, regardless of what instrument you play. Every band member is/was a genius, and it shows in this album. Enjoy!
2008-09-10
10. The number one Bass Players album - Being a Musician/Bass Player myself, This album opened up everything for Bass and any Bass player that plays today owes homage to Jaco and this album of some of the best musicians for its time. What Jimi Hendrix was to guitar, Jaco is to the Bass world. If you are a Bass Player, this should be a must have album or any musician for that matter.
2008-08-31
11. In responce to akbrother's review - I have also heard school bands play Birdland. They make it seem very cheezy. I once asked my friend about Birdland. He said that it is okay! Later, I played the original version for him and he was amazed! The original version is far (far far far...) superior to the big band versions we hear today. Although, I'm sure that there is a great big band version somewhere out there. Birdland is an amazing piece and A Remark You Made is one of the most beautiful fusion tunes EVER!! Jaco's Teen Town and Havona add a lot to the album as well. Heavy Weather is an AMAZING album!

12. Whaaa???? - This collection is undoubtibly the most forward looking Jazz collection of it's time. I would like to know what Yay Who (Ya Yee) thought of other great moments in musical history, but only for tragic-comic relief sake. I am staggered by YY's ignorance - it's like someone complaining about having to change a light bulb - unaware of the light that it sheds on their dullard's existence. This is likely THE Greatest Jazz Album of the last half of the th Century, possible even to-date, in someways. When it hit, It Ruled and Reigned - uncontested & undefeated. Everyone was left scrambling trying to understand what had just happened. It was The Culmination of the entire Fusion period. Everyone else just came along to bring up the rear, for years to come. (with acknowledgements to Return to Forever -which walked Fusion in to the mainstream.) There are fools in every court - thanks for being our's YY ugh!!!
2008-04-04
13. Heavy Weather - To be honest, this album just is not appealing to me. I dont know why. It just doesnt sound right to ME. That is my opinion, and everyone is entitled to their own. It is musically brilliant, I just dont come back to it often, so I give it three stars. Like I said, something about it just doesnt settle with me. Give the samples a listen before you buy it, so you can get a feel for what is going on.
2008-01-13
14. time and place - this album stands out to this very day as representative of fusion 's, there isn't a musician i know in jazz that dosent rever this. as to any nay sayers . . . look at the time line of this album and pop culture and tell me it wasnt huge in its impact and tell me its cheesy when you here jaco's bass over gritty synths and loud distorted horns . . . its magic
2007-12-15
15. An essential Jazz album. - Ths album lead's off with one of the most recognizable and covered Jazz songs in history, moves to one of the most gorgeous ballads I've ever heard, and then Jaco takes front and center with "Teen Town" and quickly confirms his place in Jazz history. Combine Zawinul's soul and compositional craftmanship with Shorter's unique and influential tenor playing and then add the fire, chops, and energy of Jaco with the rythmic fervor of two of the greatest percussionists ever and you get one of the greatest and best-selling Jazz albums of all time. Groups comprised of master players don't always add up to masterful albums, but here, the whole truly is greater than the sum of the parts. And considering the parts, that's saying something.
2007-11-15
16. regarding "Ya Yee" - Regarding the opinion of "Ya Yee" all I have to say is that is the wonderful thing about America. What can you say about a country where you are free to voice your opinion no matter how STUPID and UNDEDUCATED it might be! Here you have freaking Wayne Shorter, Joe Zawinul and Jaco Pastorious laying down some of the most virtuosic playing ever put down on vinyl! This is one of the all time classic fusion albums (and one of the all time great albums, period) and this guy makes that stupid comment; give me a break!

1. The Best of George Benson Release - When I purchase a CD most often there are a few terrific tracks; a few good but not outstanding and a few I do not bother adding to my 'Favorites Playlist'. This album is truly an exception! Every track is majestic, truly outstanding! It is of course not unusual for George Benson to deliver 'Heart & Soul' in his performances, but even George has albums with a few tracks less than steller. (Greatest Hits of not.) I also purchased a backup "Just In Case" CD on this one. I have done this for a total of three CD's and I have a song library! Music is good for the soul & you truly will not be disappointed purchasing this CD! I have recommended it to so many friends over the years, I thought it was about time I share this feeedback with everyone. I HOPE YOU ENJOY!!

. Searching for the right door/Spectrum
. Anxiety/Taurean Matador
. Stratus
. To the women in my life
. Snoopy's Search/Red Baron
. To the women in my life/Le Lis
. Le Lis
.Snoopy's Search/Red Baron
. Red Baron
That means Red Baron is repeated times, Snoopy's Search, To the women in my life, and Le Lis are all repeated twice, and these are NOT outakes or other versions.
THE CORRECT ORDER IS SUPPOSED TO BE:
(According to the Vinyl released in )
. Quadrant (:)
. Searching for the right door (:)
. Spectrum (:)
. Anxiety (:)
. Taurean Matador (:)
. Stratus (:)
. To The Women In My Life (.)
. Le Lis (:)
. Snoopy's Search (:)
. Red Baron (:)
I don't have the Vinyl, but I got the titles and play times by searching online. If i have made a mistake, will you please help us all out? Thanks to all the drumdawgs and lovers out there, peace

2. iTunes was smoking something - So yeah, after some research, I was happy to note that all the original LP tracks are contained here, but a few are mislabeled. Tracks and are correct, but Track is actually Anxiety / Taurian Matador. Track is actually Stratus, Track is actually To the Women in My Life / Le Lis, and Track is actually Snoopy's Search / Red Baron. Track should be To the Women in My Life, and the rest are correct, but I don't know how the track list got so jacked up on iTunes. Still, it's good to know that all the tracks from the original album are here. I have been a fusion fan for a while, but got kind of burned out after buying and listening to Miles Davis albums. After revisiting it, I found this gem, and I am so glad I did. I loved Billy in Mahavishnu Orchestra, and he really lays back and takes more of a support role in this album, which I would not have expected. He definitely brings the caliber of players to make this album great, though. The whole album is great, but I especially love Stratus (mislabeled as Anxiety / Taurian Matador here) and Red Baron. Both of those songs are just groovy as hell. I definitely reccommend this album to any music lover.

3. Glad I found this after years - Just started'i-tuning'(I'm yrs old)with recent Christmas present (I-pod nano). Younger people DON'T PASS THIS UP for reasons others have allready mentioned. I also was looking for the 'original Stratus'. As others have mentioned it's here with a different title. I'll probably end up buying all the songs even though I was initially looking for the original Stratus. Thank-you I-Tunes.

4. A Grossly Underrated Fusion Jazz Masterpiece - Spectrum was one of the first fusion jazz records to captivate me, mainly due to Tommy Bolin's guitar riffs, which are centered around pentatonic blues scales fairly reminiscent of blues-influenced classic rock. It is for this reason that I would recommend this album to classic rock fans who are looking to cultivate an appreciation for fusion jazz. However, do not be deceived: this fusion jazz album incorporates elements from many other genres as well. Such is evidenced, for instance, by the use of congas on the fifth track. The tracks bear a sharper edge at some moments, and a soft, more acoustic feel at others. If the variety of the album does not captivate, then there is still the electric speed and smoothness of Cobham's drumming; Lee Sklar's dense, meaty bass playing; and the general prowess of the other players on the record. I discovered this record when I was fourteen, and it still remains one of my favorites to this day.

5. Fantastic Stuff! - This really is a GREAT album, Billy's best and one of the classics of jazz/rock fusion. The musicianship (is that a word?) is outstanding in every detail. I love to just pick out an instrument and follow it through its' progressions. Drums, guitar, bass, keyboards...all just dynamic. Tommy Bolin, in particular, really lets loose in a fashion rarely seen even on his excellent solo albums. Yes, the track listings need to be redone (track IS Stratus), but it's all good. If you just want to own a taste, try tracks , , , and . Get it though...you won't be disappointed.

6. Billy Cobham Spectrum - Despite this being listed as a partial album. It is not so. If your familiar with this album you will notice that the song Stratus is the only missing one, but its in there. It has been omitted for some reason from the song listing. Its in there right after Anxiety/Taurian Matador.

7. Jazz-Fusion : Spectrum - What happens when you mix the performances of a Panamanian drummer, an Eastern European pianist, one of the most chilled-out and groovy bassists and a rock guitarist on one album - oh yeah, and a great horn section? Spectrum is what happens. Billy Cobham proves that you don't have to gobble up all the limelight on your own solo record; most of the time he just sits back with Lee Sklar on his Fender bass and grooves under the amazing solos of Jan Hammer and Tommy Bolin. Also, Ron Carter lends a helping hand to the title track and "Le Lis" in the form of his amazing acoustic bass performace. If you or anyone you know is not well-versed in "groove," just listen to the amazing "Red Baron." Afterwards, if you still can't quite grasp "groove," music is probably not really your thing. This album is quite possibly the finest example of Jazz-Fusion to ever grace human ears. Too bad iTunes neglected to include one of my personal favorites, "Stratus," with this download - stars for the album ; negative stars for iTunes!

8. Yeah, there's some mixups here... But I'm still glad it can be found! - I saw Billy Cobham live at Yoshi's last night and it inspired me to restock my catalog. This album was always on my wish list, and I'm somewhat familiar with it... but the "partial album" status, plus the confusion about "Stratus", convinced me to do some research. On the CD, the track order is slightly different; "Stratus" is track , and "Taurean Matador" is track ; the rest is the same. If you compare the two versions of "Anxiety/Taurean Matador" on this collection, and on the anthology, you'll find that they are two different songs. On this collection, "A/TM" is actually "Stratus", and on the anthology, "A/TM" is a two-part song I've never previously heard. Also, there seems to be no relation between the "Taurean Matador" that is the second half of "A/TM", and the "Taurean Matador" that is part of this collection; the grooves are completely different, and on first listen, I didn't detect much similarity to the progressions. I've noticed title mixups with iTunes before, but I'm still glad they have this music available to us. As everybody seems to agree: this music is worth owning, and worth the the effort to investigate and clear up the mysteries...

9. Nothin' Missing! - Woah.... What's missing from this GEM? well lets see, another review stated that the song Stratus was missing. Not the case. The song title Stratus was I believe a working title. The song is here in it's entirety, as Anxiety/Taurian Matador. Another beautiful display of Tommy Bolin's Guitar Work! Showing his fusion prowess. In a time before Jeff Beck and Jan Hammer were doing it. If you love great guitar tone and killer licks that to this day are unparalled in this genre, you're going to love this record. Don't get me wrong I love Jeff Becks work just as much!! Tommy seems to step over the edge a little more, fused with Cobhams brilliant playing this is a must own item!

10. While Cleaning My House - While Cleaning My House, I came across part of my house - actually bathroom closet where I kept all my LPs - Yes Vinyl Records. And pulled out this Album I have not listened to in.. um.... years I bought this when it came out in . Wow!! what an album. Especially Tommy Bolin, so underrated - you can really see how good he was - he died of heroin overdoes in . what a waste of life. I am playing the Red Baron over and over. Of course, Jan Hammer - who I saw times with Jeff Beck in concert is so-so good.. too good. He's licks just blows my mind. Loved Joe Farrow's sax. - who later teamed with likes of Chick Corea.. and little did I know Lee Skalar played bass - didn't he later played bass for Phil Collins? Well. Hey I wantted to put these tune on my iPod.. how do I do that from an LP... which is a tad scratch.. not bad for year old record. But iTune's got it .. Great..!!!

11. Billy cobham album must have! - one of the best drummer in the world, used to be in the fusion supergroup with john maclaughlin, jan hammer-which plays on this album.Billy wanted to play his own music-which he didn't have a chance to with john maclaughlin.Well this album sells all on it own, every track is jazzy and plenty of fusion music.Get this album .
2007-03-18
12. Excellent fusion work-song missing though - Why does I-tunes sell partial albums and edited songs? Though none of these songs are edited, there is a supurb song missing from this album. -Stratus- is a part of this album and is a glaring omission from what is an outstanding album. Cobham is easily one of the top five drummers of any genre- ever. His precision and dexterity never ceases to amaze me. Any fusion, prog rock Jazz, funk lovers will love Cobham's skills.

1. How do you NOT own this? - I bought this the DAY it came out. I’ve been listening and unraveling the mysteries inside ever since. Having become a guitar teacher in the rd act of my life, whenever anyone asks me how to play the guitar, I say simple. Follow these steps. .) Buy Strat style guitar. .) Buy amp .) Buy Blow by Blow and learn. The end. Jeff Beck IS the electric guitar, and no one and no thing can ever come close.

2. Must have for guitarist! - If your a guitarist and haven't heard this song than treat yourself to this. This is true genius. Turn it on, close your eyes and smile. Learn to play this and you will hypnotize your audiences. No one plays like this anymore. The scales and chord variations are different and refreshing yet its a classic piece of beauty. Love it.

3. Blow by Blow - Jeff finnally had a huge success with an Album that for many came out of left field. However Jeff was always different and this" Billy Colbam- spectrum" album inspired effort is one of the beat jazz rock fusion albums made. Jeff took the Tommy Bolan- Colbam effort to heart and made it commercially successful by doing doing it jeff's way. I remember reading it was his first gold album(including yardbirds) till then. Download "cause we ended as lovers" and look up Billy Colbam's Spectrum.

4. Amazing Musical Journey! - This album is just about perfect in every way. I've heard it dozens of times, and it has never gotten even slightly old. The band (and Jeff of course) sounds great, and the arrangements are mesmerizing! Songs are catchy, relaxing, and upbeat all at the same time! What are you waiting for?!
2010-03-24
5. Fantastic Album! - In my opinon this album is the absolute height of Jeff Becks career! No other Fusion guitarist has ever been able to weave such mind-bending solos that sound so fluid and natural. The rhythm section is spot on with Richard Bailey providing the drums and percussian for the album and Phil Chen playing bass. Because they form such a solid foundation it allows Max Middleton and Jeff Beck to explore dissonant, creative, musical concepts that no other instrumental album had approached before. Also, Stevie Wonder makes a guest apperance on the album and and plays keyboards on two tracks [Cause We've Ended as Lovers and Thelonius]. This a fantastic album I recommend everybody purchase!
2009-12-26
6. Best Fusion Album I Own - It's amazing to see how Jeff Beck emerged from the yardbirds to go on to be a guitar god today. This album is one the best fusion albums that I have ever owned. Most of the new fusion albums that I have only have a few good songs. But I love ALL the songs on this album! That, my friends, is the difference between the classic rock era and the "hip hop era" that we are in now, where rock n roll, and fusion are not really on the map anymore.
2009-11-30
7. Blow By Blow - This CD, by far, exemplifies who Jeff Beck is and what he can do! Listening to this gives me such exquisite pleasure! Jeff creates with 'Cause We've Ended As Lovers' & 'Diamond Dust' a sound so pure, tight and sensual...and 'Scatterbrain' has a rapid fire delivery that rips through this listener Whoa!
2009-11-22
8. Still Amazing - For those of us that are old enough to remember: Technology was a console stereo in the living room with a turntable and an FM radio. I would sneak in late at night and plug in headphones so that I could listen to the rock music on the radio without waking up the rest of the house. It must have been early in the morning when I first heard Jeff's guitar and the Roland electric piano with the revolving speaker. Even after years, the sound is clean and tight and I don't know that any technological improvement or musical advance makes music better than this. It's clean and powerful with a craftmanship that is still unparalleled. I don't think that I had previously heard the fusion of rock and jazz before and nothing since has really been any better.
2009-11-04
9. Dripping with goodness... - Take s "police chase" theme music, add fused out jazz/funk, throw in some rock, and jam music and you might have an idea where this goes. It makes me laugh when I listen to it- not because it is funny (well, some of it is), but because it is so damn good. I don't smoke anymore, but for those that do, this is some real "ear candy" if you know what I mean...
2009-09-04
10. Perfect - Jeff beck is definately one of the besk guitar players of all time. This album is awesome the way he is able to express so much emotion by simply playing his guitar is amazing. Cause we've ended as lovers is one of the top ten guitar solos of all time for sure, that song is reason enough to get the album. In short one of the best guitar albums of all time
2009-05-23
11. Cause We Ended As Lovers RULES! - Bought this album when it was first released (still pristine) and since CD's, have NOT stopped playing it on a regular basis! AWESOME GUITAR! Whenever I play it, the sound level is cranked up, and I am once again blown away! All tracks on the CD are excellent - personal favorite is "Cause We Ended As Lovers"
2009-01-08
12. Top five of my collection - I have an extensive and,for lack of a better word, eclectic collection of recordings of just about every genre, amassed over a period of years. For pure musicianship and bravery, this album is the jewel of my collection, bringing to mind Sting's Dream of the Blue Turtles.I have played it more than any other album.I think if it was re-released in today's music atmosphere,it would be a tremendous crossover hit, especially in the jazz market.
2008-10-26
13. Desert island material - This should be on any short list of recordings you'd take into exile on a desert island. Simply a stunning album. Beck is inventive and expressive, and by working with the band instead of letting it work for him he creates powerful and diverse pieces. The drumwork is superbly rich, part of the dense rhythmic drive. One of the best fusion efforts ever and it easily stands the test of time.

1. @L.R. Polk - I love this album and I love gospel, but as a year old, I found your comment very offensive. I'm not talking about Soulja Boy, but rap is just as musical as this, and I also found your hateful description of it offensive. I don't care if you don't like Hip-Hop, but I can tell you don't know much about it, so you should't be attacking it. In fact, Hip-Hop evolved straight out of this. In fact, 'Misunderstood' by Common samples Nina herself! I love Gospel & Jazz, but I wouldn't if my parents tried to shove it down my throat. Anything connected to 'Taking Children Back From Society' I want nothing to do with. Lastly, I doubt you live exactly like you parents. If we all did, we would still all be farming.

2. Take your children back from society! - This the kind of music that our children should be hearring for inspiration, not misogynistic, self degrading rap. I challeng the people that have children, not to just be people with children, but be parents to your children. Society is constantly teaching your children what it wants of your children in your absence, so take time to counteract societal teachings and guide your children in a direction that will not only benefit them, but will also benefit society. Peace and One

1. Outstanding! - Have seen PMJ live twice as well as some of the singers on their own tours. This is a great collection. Looking forward to more wonderful arrangements and I love their live shows. Morgan James' MAPS and 'Burn' with Cristina Gatti et al, were the two songs that hooked me long ago. Scott Bradlee's jazzy arrangement and Sara Niemietz's rendition of 'Hey Ya" is fabulous

1. Great smooth jazz - I was in a musical and Dave Brubeck was the piano player. He also wrote, and composed it. I met him after the show and he was very nice. The other day I was in a cd store and found this cd. I was shocked he was this popular! I didn't get the cd cause I wanted to sample it first, and it's the exact same jazz genre I like. Thanks Dave, without meeting you I wouldn't have known about this cd.

1. Essential is exactly what this is - Great singer, great band, great music. Lot of sad songs, lot of songs about love, lot of songs about surviving some intense emotions. Here is a beautiful black woman with a giant heart, a giant mind, and a giant soul, who knew how to pour it all out on paper and make a song from it. Amazing woman, amazing album. Amazing music. Bu the way, I’m a white metal head. I just happen to have a secret love for gorgeous old emotional songs.

1. ETTA JAMES IN THE 's - Usually you can count on Sony's "Essential" series to provide original hits by the original artists BUT NOT IN THIS CASE! Etta didn't start recording for Sony's Epic label until , so this is only going to be Etta's newer, non-hit material [including a re-recording of "At Last"]. There is also an "Essential" CD on the Chess label and THAT'S the CD with Etta's 's hits. iTunes doesn't help by confusing the two CDs in their Album Review above. If you want to hear how Etta ended her career, this is the CD for you. If you want the hits, look elsewhere.

1. One of the Best Albums EVER! - A true masterpiece -- so good that it's still popular over years after it was first released. I remember the day my father brought the record home, sometime in the early 's. We both loved it! Dad's gone now, but the album and my memories of our both enjoying the record so much live on.
2012-03-28
2. A must have for Jazz lovers - This is one of the greatest albums in jazz. It is a classic; if you like jazz this is one that is a must have. I have had this for over years. And I still listen to something on this album regularly. I have several of Brubeck's albums and this one is by far may favorite. Take Five is my favorite of this album; and one of my favorite jazz pieces of all.
2011-08-26
3. should be on every music collection (not only jazz) - I was drawn to Brubeck as a Steely Dan and Donald Fagen adorateur. My father should have played this album non stop when I was or and that could have been a determining factor in my perfect recollection of every tune on this album. Unless this is such great compositions that your brain knows before your hears listen.
2011-02-02
4. The Cover and the Music - Jazz Pace stated that he remembered staring at the cover as a kid. I do too. My father and Neal Fujita (who painted the cover) collaborated on a ad agency when I was a kid, so I remember staring at the cover as well. I was lucky that my dad had a big jazz collection from when he worked at Columbia. This was one of the first albums that started my love of jazz. So much has been said about it. It's one of the top albums to listen to along with KOB by Miles and GS by Coltrane, not to mention many others. Hope you dig it.
2010-10-24
5. Timeless and Brilliant and Fun Too - I first heard this some years ago, and it was love at first hearing. Featuring one of jazz's all time best known compositions, Take Five, a wonderful kind of musical dialogue between Brubeck and alto sax player, Paul Desmond (who wrote the piece), the entire recording - with such standout cuts as Blue Rondo A La Turk, Kathy's Waltz, and Pick Up Sticks - evokes a kind of brainy, moody s world of cool. It's a world I want to go to from time to time, and this classic of cool jazz is just the ticket there. Years later, Brubeck and his talented sons would play some fine music together; however, here is the place to hear this legendary figure as a young turk, and his tight, talented quartet, as they produce a recording which still sounds fresh.
2009-11-19
6. Great Moment In Jazz - Paul Desmond on alto, Brubeck, et al, play some of the most beautiful and inspiring pieces in jazz. These tunes don't hit you light lightning, but it's hard not to immediately see their muse-like quality. I like Anthony Braxton and all of his playful, austere and bounlessly free explorations, and he cites Desmond time and again as one of his major influences. I absolutely love Desmond's alto on this album. He seems to me as though he were a srange meadow lark himself.
2009-03-03
7. This album is genius - I picked this album in the 's and almost wore it out. Desmond's sax is like perfume in the air, and Morello's sticks are magic. My only complaint: I can't download "Pick Up Sticks," which is a brilliant drum near-solo by Morello. What i get is a beautiful, haunting melody but not what's advertised. What happened to it? Hence the dropped star.
2009-02-10
8. Time Out is a Masterpiece! - I really can't add anything to the All Music Guide review. The polyrhythms and the effortless accessability of the music make this a timeless classic. This should be in everybodys music library along with Kind of Blue,Love Supreme and other Jazz classics. For anyone who thinks they don't like jazz, they need to give this a listen, they would soon be converts! Peace and Love Guy Piano

9. I always go back... - When I was twelve, back in , I saw this album at a thrift store. I bought it because I remember my dad singing "Take Five" to me, and I remembered Al Jarreau's rendition of it also. I figured I needed to hear where it came from. I bought the album, took it home, played it, and was instantly consumed by the melodies and time signatures! After reading the liner notes about each song and learning about each time signature and how it was all done, I was mesmurized! Since ' I think I've purchased this album at least four times: once on vinyl (which I wish I still had), twice on CD (can't believe I dunno where they are...), and now on iTunes! Gotta love it! P.S.: See Brubeck live is just as amazing, if not more!!
2008-01-25
10. Brubeck spans generations - Like the first reviewer, my Dad use to go watch Brubeck in small bars in L.A. in the s. I stumbled on this album in my Dad's collection when I was a kid and have been hooked ever since. The warmth of the vinyl sound is unbeatable, but still important to have in my digital collection. Saw Brubeck with my Dad in San Diego a couple of years ago. Saw him again in Saratoga in . He is getting old, but I recommend seeing this legend while you can.
2008-01-12
11. Every Track is Five Stars - While Blue Rondo and Take Five are the big classics on this album, the other five tracks are just as good, if not even better. Strange Meadow Lark has a beautiful piano solo in the beginning, elaborating into a great melody for sax. Three to Get Ready is genius in that it's / / meter feels so natural. Kathy's Waltz is cool because it combines / and / melodies together at the same time. Everybody's Jumpin and Pick Up Sticks are both in / time and are both superb.
2007-10-06
12. Gotta Love It - This album brings back fond memories for me. My Dad was a true jazz lover. He purchased this album new in . I remember staring at that album cover sitting on the cocktail table in our living room. Even as a year old, I could appreciate the unique sound. Now as an adult I have a true understanding of the complexities of the melodies. It's beautiful. Gotta love it.
2007-09-15
13. Jazz At Its Peak - As one of the most groundbreaking and unique Jazz records in history, "Time Out" is surprisingly accessible. One of the st Jazz records to experiment with different Time Signatures, "Blue Rondo A La Turk" is in /, and "Take Five", a timeless classic, is in /. The saxophone playing of Paul Desomnd, accompanying the distinctive piano performances of Dave Brubeck make these songs highly enjoyable, and perfect music to play during breakfast, dinner, or whatever time of day you typically play Jazz! If you're just starting to explore Jazz, I would reccomend purchasing "Time Out" before getting into artists like Miles Davis, John Coltrane, or Thelonius Monk. Dave Brubeck's "Time Out" will serve as a much smoother introduction to the world of Jazz- I highly reccomend it.

14. A Classic for any Jazz Lover! - This is a must for your library! Whether you have been a jazz fan for years or are just beginning to try it out, this is one you will want to have. This is the kind of music memories are made to. The flavor is rich and so layered. The drumming is test of your ears and the piano melodies hit your soul. You will not regret this great albuml!
2007-07-15
15. Classic Jazz Album, if not the definitive - I may love rock and techno, but there's something about the majesty that DB's Quartet has to offer. Their sound is unrivavled by any artist, unfortuatnatley, being that it is in this day and age music like this is in short supply. Even after half a century, the Quartet has an unwaviering sound that can still teach artists today a thing or two.
2007-06-20
16. Beautiful and Complex - It is the mixture of complexity, beauty, and spontaneity that makes this album genius. Time Out exhibits a variety of odd rhythmic meters (including / in Blue Rondo À la Turk) as well as a strange mixture of modes, yet the tunes flow so well. This work is not only highly original, but brilliantly pleasing to the ears.

1. DONT BUY IT. ITUNES WOULDNT GIVE ME A REFUND - This was a huge mistake. They change the scores and I only got it to have sing sing sing and they ZAPPED the energy out of that song. I wanted a good audio quality version of that song because apparently NO ONE ON ITUNES HAS THAT AND EVEN THIS HAD TO RUIN IT.

2. An Amazing Recording - The tunes are timeless, the band is terrific but the recording is amazing. If you have ever wanted to sit in the band instead of just listen to it this is the one for you. 1. Still As Good as Ever - "Time Out" is simply one of those jazz records which define the Dave Brubeck Quartet for the excellence of it musicianship. It just doesn't get any better than this. The live recordings section is the most interesting of the two CDs. Joe Morello was the coolest jazz drummer of them all, in my mind: Quick, funny, original. Bruback, well, It's BRUBECK, for godssakes! All but Gene "The Senator" Wright are still living. When he passes members of the quartet will be a lasting monument American jazz.

2. Magical. - Sometimes, rarely, genius expresses itself without constraint or limitations. It leaves the world with something truly magical that transcends time. Dave Brubeck poured out his genius in "Time Out;" each track a unique expression. I love each one more upon every listening. The American art form at its apex.

3. Classic, but flawed by lack of hi-res - Name the top classic jazz albums and Brubeck’s Time Out sits in the top , along with John Coltrane’s A Love Supreme and Miles Davis’ Kind of Blue. Unfortunately the mastering of this particular version is just slightly better than the original CD; and if you really want to listen to the music, you’ll need a high-resolution version — something that Apple/iTunes still refuses to carry.

4. Time Out-The Dave Brubeck Quartet - As a Jazz Giant Dave Brubeck will always remain on top of the list of famous Jazz Performers. His renditions bring me back to where I was many years ago listening to his songs at various concerts & clubs. This is a great album that will last the test of time. Don't pass up an opportunity to sit back and go back in time again. Enjoy fully

5. The One You've Heard About - Yes, it's all true. This is the definitive studio recording by the Dave Brubeck Quartet.
With the inclusion of drummer Joe Morello three years earlier, Brubeck had found a drummer who could handle the rhythmic experiments he was interested in undertaking. He wanted to write an album of music that didn't use standard / time, the only rhythm jazz had ever used (though waltz-time was used more and more in the 's).
"Blue Rondo a la Turk" is a holdover from Jazz Impressions of Eurasia, using the Turkish rhythm Brubeck had heard during his State Department tour of . The classical rondo (repeatedly returning to the same melody separated by different interludes) with the Turkish rhythm, and the juxtaposition of the / blues create a work greater than the sum of its parts. Brubeck and Desmond's solos are highlights.
"Strange Meadowlark" is a beautiful, tuneful ballad with a slightly unusual form, but in / time.
"Take Five" was nominally written by Paul Desmond, but Brubeck helped put the two melodies Desmond created into one tune. This version is admittedly stiff, but it became a giant hit afterwards, the greatest of Brubeck's career. It may be no exaggeration to say that Brubeck played this song at EVERY concert from on.
"Three to Get Ready" is a charming, very simple tune, but after one reading of the melody the rhythm begins alternating / and / time, and the result is surprisingly swinging.
"Kathy's Waltz," written for his daughter Catherine (the title was misspelled on the album, so it stuck), is the further evolution of the Brubeck /, (from "Lover" to "Someday My Prince With Come" to "Wonderful Copenhagen" to this) where the leader superimposes / while his rhythm section remains in .
"Everybody's Jumpin'" and "Pick Up Sticks" (both featuring / (not ) to varying degrees) are the least-remembered of the tracks here, but the former is a groovy melody that keeps changing keys, and the second is an ostinato-bass-line tune that features possibly the most exciting Brubeck big-chord solo on the album.
This album has it all: tuneful melodies, challenging rhythms, nonpareil soloists, and a consummate rhythm section. It is a relief to see that such a high-quality album can be a popular hit as well.

6. One of the very best - If I had to pick one band, one album, one song...Brubeck Quartet's Take Five. Whenever I hear anyone say they don't like jazz, I pull out this album, and I can't think of one time when it has failed to open ears and minds. For me, the live recordings on this release breath new life into pieces that I could already listen to for days on a repeat loop. The studio releases on this edition may in fact be different takes as said (re gwanaman), and I guess I can understand taking issue with Sony over a lack of disclosure. However, while I own and regularly listen to the orignally released album, I don't find the takes on this release to be of inferior quality. There are plenty of "mistakes" on the originally released album, if such a thing as a mistake exists in an improvisional art form.

7. These are not the original takes... - I will never dispute the greatness and the importance of Time Out. My rating does not reflect my opinion of the album per se, it's just that the th Anniversary Legacy Edition is not the same Time Out you may have heard... Sony screwed up when they released this. These are not the original takes that Brubeck and Desmond selected for release. Blue Rondo a la Turk, for example, is riddled with small technical playing errors that do not appear on the original LP or the earlier CD releases. Click on the Blue Rondo sample above, for example. You can hear saxophonist Paul Desmond "frack" one and a half seconds in. That did not appear on the original release! Later in the track, you can even hear errors by Brubeck. I could go on to point out several errors in other tracks, but what's the point? It's out there now and Sony doesn't care because it sold and still sells. It's too bad, though, that the original tracks that Mr. Brubeck and the band intended will fade away in some corporate warehouse somewhere... Again, these are not the original takes that Brubeck and Desmond selected for release - and there is NO indication by Sony in the liner notes that this is a release of alternate takes! The live stuff is terrific, however. Don't get me wrong, Time Out a great album and an enjoyable listen... This, however, is not the recording you have originally heard. Look for a used LP or early cd copy somewhere, if you are looking for the purity of the original release. If you don't care, get this one. It's good, and easily worth the $.. But shame on Sony for screwing this one up! And for the album's th Anniversary!

8. Years On... - ...and one of the finest Jazz recordings ever is still going strong. Throw in the live "previously unreleased" tracks and Time Out is well worth buying all over again. If you've never treated yourself to this gem, now is the perfect time to do so. was a landmark year in jazz with some legendary releases (Coltrane's "Giant Steps", Miles' "Kind of Blue" and Coleman's "Shape of Jazz to Come") and Brubeck's Time Out easily holds its own amongst these jazz giants. Sit back, relax and Take Five.

1. Hell yeah, this is a really solid, swinging album. Take it from a Z-oomer - I am I grew up listening to this music, the first song I ever heard was little brown jug, and I loved it, that’s when I was a baby. I love this music, it rocks, thank you apple for keeping this REAL MUSIC alive and swinging.

2. The BEST Glenn Miller Album - Glenn Miller is always great to listen to, but this album specifically is positively perfect in every way. The quality of each song cannot be topped, and they picked all the right Glenn Miller songs to include. This is by far the best quality Glenn Miller album on iTunes.

3. Miller's best - I'm a recent convert to jazz, and Glenn Miller was the first one people suggested to me. I managed to get this album after a little debate, and it's great! The only quam I have about it is that 'Sunrise Serenade' is missing, which is rather odd. Altogether, though, this is a great album for any jazz enthusiast.

1. GREAT BEST OF...BUT.... - I saw AL in Concert in SF back in the 's. The guy..blew the top off of the concert hall. Then came back out and did encores! For all of you Jazz lovers, His best recording is , Look To The Rainbow.
Its a double CD with the real Al Jarreau. void of commercialism. And his band is tight! Rest in peace Mr. Jarreau. YOU..my dear sir were one of the best..ever done it!!

2. A truly great voice - I grew up listening to music by great vocalists like Al Jarreau. Listening to the theme from Moonlighting or We're In This Love Together takes me back to my high school/college years. It's very sad that they don't have artists such as this anymore. I'm sad that we have lost such a talented man.

1. CATCH AL ON TOUR FOR THIS ALBUM - I wore out the cassette, now I'm all over this great effort from Return to Forever's classy guitarist on the download. Al is back on tour in the US. Just caught him in Scottsdale, AZ with Billy Cobham. If they are coming anywhere within your hemisphere, catch them if you can. Al plays the entire Elegant Gypsy album and his band is tight and soars like an eagle. I love this recording and you will too!

2. Much Better these days - Fusion fan from the beginning and bought this masterpiece in vinyl (still have it too) first release. I must say, I love it even more today on better equipment (ie. digital). Al-Di is the focus of most of the comments I read, but look at the players on this album - like benchmarks in a who's who. Not many girlfriends into anything but disco at the time - this was the personal collection.

3. Chops, Chops, and more Chops! - A terific follow-up to "Land of the Midnight Sun". Al rips it up as usual and lets every bandmate in on the fun just long enough to make it a collaborative effort. One of the soundtracks to my freshman year in college when most of my dormmates hadn't progressed past classic rock quite yet. I got asked to TURN IT DOWN frequently which is a sign you're doing something right!

4. The Greatest - For me personally, Al Di Meola is the greatest guitar player that I have ever heard. His tremendous style and technique are evident on Elegant Gypsy. Ever since I first heard his work in , I have been hooked. It's like a chemical release in my brain whenever I hear his works of art. He may shun some of his earlier work, but this man is a true genius, whether we are talking about or and beyond. Pick up this album and give it a listen. You will be blown away.

5. Essential - Why this release receives such a dismissive review, I cannot fathom. This is one of the greatest fusion records ever recorded. Al has a way with mixing variety and consistency to make this an interesting and enjoyable record. I would highly recommend this to anyone trying to get into fusion.

6. Elegant Gypsy - I had this album in vinyl along time ago and I can honestly say it’s up there with the best. I spent many hours in awe of Al Di Meola’s, technique. I’ve been a drummer most of my life and not too many guitar guy’s have blown me away as these guys did on this album. The dueling guitars of Paco and Al in “Mediterranean Sundance”, is nothing short of awesome. That one song is worth the price of the album and the rest are whipped cream and a cherry on a masterpiece.

1. Danceable grooves - Everytime I would hear a song on the radio that showcased a strong opening drum pattern by Jeff Porcaro. Lido Shuffle and LowDown by Boz Scaggs from Silk Degrees. It just is so right in that it makes you want to get down and Boogie all night on the dance floor. He is the best groovemaster of all time and surly missed by many that knew loved and worked with him
And gorgeous Dreamyeyed Angel with jetblack
hair and sexy smile.I still have many more chapters to write about him in my book. Gathering ideas here and there while looking at my I-pad screen and listening to audio through my headphones. Te amo . And still keep playing those drums on my heartstrings
forever and ever. . As always your true fan from the late s early mid and lates and early s.

1. Worth the Money!! - There are a lot of great saxophone players out there however, I had the pleasure of seeing Dave, live in concert on several occasions and he never disappoints. This is a great collection of hit songs from many of his concerts in which he always invites a very special guest to accompany him on stage. Great to add to your collection!!

1. The nd Great Miles Quintet! - Herbie Hancock , Wayne Shorter , Ron Carter , and Tony Davis would outlast any of Miles' groups and this was the first studio recording with the quintet. On top of being the most groundbreaking jazz musician in history...Miles Davis will always be remembered for the amazing artwork/album covers that accompanied every album. E.S.P. was no acception. This cover photo was shot during a candid moment between Miles and his then wife Francis Bean. She is featured on several of his album covers.

1. JACOB. OH MY GOD. - Jacob Collier is no question the best musician on this planet. One reason is because he is not from this planet. I, as a classically trained (sort of because I’m in the th grade) pianist who got into jazz recently, this guy just blows me away. He is limited to instruments only in his room to make this album!! Even though he has a lot of instruments, that is crazy insane. He makes all this harmonically rich music with ease! I am putting his music on repeat. Thank you Jacob. Hopefully I get to see you in a live show someday.

2. Jacob Collier Amazing! - I have been following Jacob Collier for a while now. He continues to impress me with his music and his ability to interpret. A strong first showing for this young man. I expect great things from him. I recently attended his concert in Dallas and in Los Angeles. He is an incredible musician. I anticipate a lot more from Jacob. His mother by the way is also accomplished in her own right. I am sure that Jacob captures a lot from her genes. Overall... an incredible talent, and I am sure that Best is Yet to Come! 3. Actually, this is a masterpiece. - I don’t say that lightly. This album is equal parts entrancing, interesting, and unpredictable. I never know where he’s going with a song, but I always find I’m comfortable wherever we are. And the constant reharmonization and well-placed textural shifts always keep things fresh… yet the same. Each song is like it’s own little world with its own rules, and then after he establishes those rules he breaks them in funky, satisfying ways. And let us not forget Mr. Collier recorded ALL of the vocals and instruments (to my knowledge). He is a formidable talent. Listen for yourself. mic drop

4. UFO phenomenon - Anyone with sense knows something happened here. Jacob is fantastic!
Justly considered a landmark for the new generation of jazz, with almost every track an instant classic. The title track, "In My Room" is just as good as the original, with high drama.
Where did this dude came from, this is a great great great album!

5. Completely different than anything you've ever heard! - Jacob Collier's premier album is a really unique blend of genre. He plays more instruments than I knew existed and is incredibly versatile and creative in his arrangements. He is clearly a pioneer, creating a style that is unique to him. He has absolutely nailed it with this album!

6. A gold mine - Mr Collier is a gold mine in today's Jazz world in an industry who finds it challenging to market it to a young generation. Simply put good looks and skilled musicianship will definitely earn you respect among Jazz lovers world wide. However Jacob Collier is not new in his style of creative ingenuity. Taking some general forté pop influences, manipulating the chord structure and progressions is typical and productive. What makes Jacob uniquely refreshing is the ability to take joyous harmonies and elongate them just at the right timing for your ears to cry out for more sugar.
Bobby McFerrin whom today is my most listened to Jazz Classical artists understand the voice in interpretation has everything to do to keep the audience wanting more and intrigued. Jacob, whom has hit the Jazz scene via YouTube sensation has expanded an audience base who finds Jazz for only sophisticated hipsters or NPR listeners who maintain great attention span than some who just want to keep up with the Kardashian drama. Thank you Jacob for making Jazz youthful and hip again.

7. I hear God in his music. A spirit that you can't teach! - There are people like him and Jarrod Lawson that aren't so much the future, but are the NOW. It's just that simple. Like Stevie, there are those put on earth to do one thing. Ali, Einstein, Jobs, Ford, the Wright Brothers, Goodall, Coppola, Miles, Amelia, O'Keefe, Eleanor to name a few. He is more than a musician. He is an audible meal for the soul.

8. Jazz et al Genius Nonpareil - I've been following Jacob for a couple of years through his social media after finding him on YouTube. Every new piece of work has been a jaw dropper. Now, he's finally at the album stage. As usual, his range, ability to play every instrument on the planet, musical IQ and unrivaled imagination knocked me into a new dimension. He's not just the Jazz bin on iTunes - he's the whole store. He's all the things. I can't wait to see what happens next. His cover of Stevie's "You and I" is astonishing - I would pay the entire album price just for that cut. Listen, weep, laugh, gasp. Appreciate that you're alive at such a time as this and were here when Jacob took over.

9. What I Was Waiting For - Jacob is a genius, but the erratic YouTube reharmed/polyrhythmic/virtuosity-driven stuff was starting to tire me out. I could tell that he had some real substantive stuff up his sleeve when he put out the “Close to You” video, and this album, from what I’ve heard of it, confirms that. This is an album - it’s not just a collection of crazy grooves and solos (although, if you, like me, are a musician and hungry for some of that walking in, you’ll certainly be satisfied). It’s a brilliant introduction to what the guy can do, and I’m really eager to hear more of it.

10. Astonishing-- the first musical X-Man! - A musician with musical super powers…wow! Can't say enough about this guy -- From the minute I heard him on YouTube, I was stunned -- the album is superlative and just the tip of the iceberg, and while he seems to present as a solo artist, he's no less astonishing when he plays with folks (check out the youtube clip with Snarky Puppy) -- Two other times I remember responding like this to a player? -- Prince's first album and Jaco's first album. The genius here is inescapable...

11. Not What You Are Expecting - I've been following Jacob for a while. He has an amazing talent and is putting it to good use, but this album is NOTHING like his traditional videos. I wouldn't even label the album as jazz; most of the songs are similar to Hideaway (long, chill, reflective, folksy). If this is what you like, don't hesitate to buy the album!
Personally, I appreciate classic and modern jazz, ("Flintstones" is amazing, and I also like "Saviour" and "Don't You Know") but all of these can be found on YouTube. I believe the best of Jacob so far are his videos where he re-invents jazz tunes. But he can do whatever he wants, and I am excited to see what's next!!
2016-07-01
12. The Future of Music - Jacob Collier is, in my estimation, the future of music. I did not say the future of "popular" music, but definitely the state of the art of all music that we know today. He has taken various styles, from jazz to R&B, to pop to Latin to classical and melded them into futuristic yet congruent and catchy pictures that can only be painted by the genius that is Jacob Collier. And I know the word "genius" has been thrown about frivolously through the years, but to any musician worth their salt, they certainly will recognize his unique harmonic, rhythmic and stylistic command of music!
Starting several years ago, as a teenager, he showed the brilliance that he shared in his amazing videos. This is not music that you should play in the background while you're going about your daily actions. This is music that should be listen to and savored, especially through good headphones, to experience the sonic beauty that Jacob has created. This will be my number one "desert island" album for years to come, I'm sure, or until he takes the next steps forward!
