1. Great vocalist, one for the ages - This young woman is incredible! I heard her on Instagram and was blown away. She sounds amazing on this album, perfect for a Saturday evening dinner party. But I have to say she actually sounds better live. There is a richness to her voice that is missing from the recordings. For real, she sounds better just singing in her room with a piano. I hope some live albums come out soon!

1. Always fresh and smooth! - I tumbled-on to Brian Simpson a while back, after sampling a featured tune on Alan Kepler's Smooth Jazz picks. Since then, I've been a solid fan. He always exhibits great muscianship, and superior arrangements on all his projects. "All That Matters" is no different, a solid effort from first, to last track. On of my favorites on this album, is the tune: 'Bonita'. Very breezy, tropical, and laid-back. Peace out!

2. This CD matters very little - Brian Simpson is one of my favorite artist. But, unfortunately this CD is the least of anything he has put out. All but or songs seem shallow to me. He has underwhelming beats in which he simply plays a few notes to accent the song and after that only plays the same notes at a higher pitch. He doesn’t put much depth, rhythm or creativity into any of these tunes. C’mon Brian you used to be the man!

3. All That Matters - Congratulations to Keyboardist Brian Simpson on another star album added to his music collection! I’m loving every track! Another well produced and spectacular project! If you do not have this one; please add to your collection! Also check his previous releases to date! Ms. Wanda “JazzyLady”

1. The Best of Fourplay - You're right Rich. These are some great musicians. In another day, musicians of this caliber would covet the moment in a tune that they could let go and express what they feel and can do - and lay it down on an album for posterity.. Now, their looking out to see what kind of buck the album will make - probably most of it as background overhead in restaurants which will rent tracks from the album. Music to supply an ambience for conversation - but won't attract too much attention. Sad.

1. great! - After a long hiatus of ten years Joyce returns with her new album Living Out Loud () on her own label Rhythm Kitchen. Exquisitely produced by Jay Wagner, this -song EP is Cooling, Wagner, and friends at their best! With a nod to where they’ve been, coupled with a full-on embrace of the now, Living Out Loud is an innovative twist on their signature sound. Joyce’s musicianship shines with a unique, soulful energy and the entire album makes a passionate statement. From the uplifting st single, “It’s So Amazing,” to the sultry, “Marina’s Dream,” Living Out Loud takes the listener on a colorful, compelling journey. The exciting title track boasts superb playing from Joyce and the band, and the R&B-tinged “Got To Find My Own Way” is downright crazy funky. The EP ends with “Carry On,” a gorgeous vocal ballad with a whole lot of heart. The trip is rich and powerful and one worth taking. - Smooth Jazz Daily

1. See it to believe it ! - I had the pleasure of seeing the tour supporting this album, both in California and in Arizona. To criticize based on the album cover is ridiculous and ignorant. Obviously, well rehersed but with the proper balance of improvisation, assured me that Al has not lost a step. I first saw him as a teenager in the early time of his stint with RTF. Thanks Mr. Di Meola for providing a large part of the soundtrack of my life!

2. True to the spirit of a great musician and writer - I think this album has a lot of expectations placed on it, as though Al has somehow not been putting out great music all these years. The notion of his “return” to electric guitar is just kind of silly, about as silly as criticizing him for the cover photo. On to the music: this album is fantastic on many levels. The production itself is crisp and clean - definitely not overpowering. My feeling, as a longtime fan of Al’s, is that this album continues a pattern of excellence for him, especially on the writing front. Thus far, “Babylon” and “Monsters” are highlights for me, as I continue to explore this fantastic recording. I recommend you put your notion of guitar and technique to the side when you listen to this. While there is a lot of that here, it’s all there to serve the music — which is something Al has progressively been mastering from “Land of the Midnight Sun” till now. This album is awesome.

1. Could Be Better - I thought I'd give Lindsey a try and purchased this new album. I find her singing with black affectations sounds false and annoying. She sounds the same, using her voice the same way in each song. She's done a few albums so it not her first time out. I suppose she has a fan base that likes her and I'm glad for that. She has a nice voice, it's the way she uses it that I have a problem. The other complaint I have are the songs, the lyrics are annoying, not interesting.

2. Love, love, love it! - I can't stop listening to this album! I love the vibe and Lindsey's voice is beautiful, especially in the song Reasons. Wow! I love the relaxed music that is so beautifully pulled together with all the amazing musicians, keyboards, guitar, trumpet...so good!
And yes I love the mixture of different genres...some R&B, some soul, some rap!, some jazz...wonderful. Great for listening in the car

3. Stellar Voice - For a soulful grove seldom matched in today’s often hectic landscape, kick back and chill to the vibe and voice of one Lindsey Webster. Equal parts elegance, equal parts power, Lindsey weaves a blend of vocal stylings—reminiscent of some of the best female vocalists of any era—across an intriguing tapestry of jazz, R&B, soul, and yes, even hints of rock n’ roll. With stand-in efforts from Brian Culbertson and Kev Choice, “Reasons” is an apt word for why this album will soon be a favorite in your collection.

1. Yeeeeessssiiir! - Good gravy! This album is amazing! Been listening to Norman Brown for years and this album does not disappoint. Top two songs are Back at Ya then Let's Get Away! Literally the entire song of Back at Ya is amazing. I remember the first time I heard the song, the chorus almost made me fall out

2. A traveling vibe - Overall, it’s a good album. It’s traveling music, for sure. That’s no easy feat. There’s music you listen to on the road to fight boredom. Then there’s music you actually enjoy listening to on the road. This album is definitely the latter. “Let’s Get Away”, personally, is the best track on the album. “Back At Ya” is a strong second. Again, a good album, overall.

1. Phenomenal... - Saw John last week at Portland State University's "Find Your Voice" concert which had him playing with young Jazz students and it was wonderful. He's such an amazing player. He made the string electric and string upright seem as though the strings were made of liquid. Our young students were in awe and he was so gracious and humble about playing with them...so good to see a world class musician have some real world charm.

1. Can't quite put my finger on it... - I first came upon the Puppini Sisters on an insomnia-fueled iTunes binge about years ago. I was simply blown away; it's easy to say things like, "they just don't make 'em like this anymore," but in the Sisters' case, it's rather true--extraordinarily talented vocalists, meticulous and gifted harmonizers, and a selection of songs that ranges from the standards to more modern pop. I simply hadn't heard anyone like them--well, there's a few out there, but none of them come close to the Sisters' in terms of the total package. They still stand alone to me. However, there's something about this album I can't quite detect that just felt... off. Perhaps it was the song choices this time around, vocals and harmonies that simply don't cover the vast real estate that previous songs did, or maybe that nothing on this album breaks up the pace a bit and keeps the listener drawn in. From a group that did such beautiful takes on "I Will Survive," "Walk Like an Egyptian," "Heart of Glass" and "Wuthering Heights," "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" seemed too easy to enjoy. The "Material Girl" mashup is a nice idea, but the songs are so numerous that no real sense of segue or medley can be detected. I could go on, but to put it simply: this album isn't a failure by any means, but it feels uninspired compared to previous entries in their catalog. After listening to them for so long, I, again, can't quite put my finger on it, but something about this album is just flat and lacking. I never imagined myself giving the Sisters a -star rating on an album, but to my dismay, I believe it is earned.

1. SMOOTHJAZZ.COM REVIEW - One of the most exciting recording artists and live performers that has ever crossed the threshold of Smooth Jazz, saxophonist Eric Darius breaks new ground by starting his own label (SagiDarius Music) for the release of his upcoming album BREAKIN’ THRU. The recently released first single, the Top , title track, “Breakin’ Thru,” featured his trademark high energy funk from start to finish, whereas his new single, “Dare Dream” is more of an anthem that builds steadily using contemporary production influences that will motivate you to be your best self. Simmering and soaring sax are held down with hypnotic beats, and a killer melody and groove. The song promises to capture your imagination like dreams often do – taking hold and not letting go. Turn it up, and “Dare Dream”!

1. Groove time - All In - Fantastic players and an obvious groove theme throughout makes this project jump out of the speakers. Then you realize it's all played and recorded live on the spot. Think about that for a second…… a single take, every song. I'm enjoying hearing all the little surprises and nuances that find their way into these tracks.

2. Beautiful, soulful and super funky - What an amazing album! I'm so in love with every song on this album. Scott doesn't seem to be capable of producing "non amazing music". All of the Scott's albums that i have ( of them) are absolutely fantastic. I wish scott released new album every month. LOL I had waited too long to get this album. Two thumbs up!

4. Love this album! - Scott’s latest album is yet another collection of killer grooves and phenomenal keyboard playing. From the beautiful downtempo, piano-based tunes to the all-out ("All-In”??) band jams, this album showcases Scott’s impeccable musical versatility. Not to mention all the incredible guest musicians featured with Scott on this project. As a musician, I can say that this album does not disappoint. Buy it and enjoy!

5. High Five Stars! - I know a lot of people lump so-called “smooth jazz” into a bucket of sameness and sterility for the genre has been wrought with a fair amount of ne’er-do-wells who’ve mucked the waters that was started by bands like Spyro Gyra, Rippingtons, Fourplay and others. So it’s no wonder why many think this this style is the musical equivalent to some light reading. Well, not everyone can appreciate the likes of traditional jazzists like Miles Davis, Art Tatum or John Coltrane nor the modern fusion sensibilities of Pat Metheny, Chick Corea or Yellowjackets. For those who want great access yet still want the richness and full flavor that jazz can offer, you need the kind of music that Scott just released with All In. It’s been a decade now since Wilkie released a follow up record and it’s been well worth the wait. I find this album full of patience, maturity and well thought out composition without ever being heavy handed. My guess that during this long layoff, Scott spent time figuring out what and how he wanted to say and now his latest shows all of that contemplation and reflection. If you’ve ever had the pleasure of hearing Scott live, you know that he has near acrobatic expertise over the keys. Maybe that that lightning rod kind of talent was lost on many and could have tested some listeners. But although he can play rings around most players it’s what I like most about this record – he doesn’t feel or act like he has to. He really showcases the compositions and what he is trying to communicate in each phrase, each meaningful and thought out. I’ve read others refer to his relaxed yet pop-filled style as “beach music.” If this is a thing, All In is its anthemic epitome. It’s light, fun but equally complex, rich and full of surprises. It’s so interesting how the great musicians that play on the record have interpreted the material but how each song screams another great Wilkie signature. Even though I can appreciate the music and performances what I’m struck by the most is the quality of the recordings, mix and mastering. It’s pristine, bright and full of light but not at all pedestrian. It’s like you can stare down each of the players right there in the room and have a relationship with each of the performances on their own. But when taken in total, the music has a kind of rhythm and soul that’s all its own. Sure, you may not hear it on the first listen. Maybe not even on the second but I promise when you live with it a few times, you’ll come to appreciate how Scott pulls together performances that feel like everyone was smiling in the studio and we’re the lucky ones to have been there to see it happen. It’s both meticulous and organic, technical yet natural but never boring or dull. Give yourself a reason to play this record and you’ll discover some new things about what you like about smooth beach music in the hands of a seasoned musician.

6. Awesome… of course! - I’ve been a Wilkie fan for years and this is his best recording to date. Scott’s musicianship is stellar and his music is always interesting and entertaining. The guest appearances of some other jazz greats just adds to the enjoyment. If you happen to be in southern Cal, check to see if the Scott Wilkie Band is playing as their energy live kicks it up x . I never miss a chance to hear them live.

7. Consumate Jazz Pianism! - The groove and feel are 'All In' on this fantastic, upbeat and inspiring release by master jazz pianist Scott Wilkie. He is joined by some of the best names in the Jazz Fusion business as they help bring his tunes, arrangements and powerful pianism to stunning, sparkling life. Scott, in one moment, can subtly coax incredible expression and nuance out of his piano, and then an instant later can cause it to roar in a powerhouse of sound. Somehow, amazingly, these two juxtapositions of great pianism never get in the way of each other. Incredible artistry! Your ears, body, mind and soul will dig this! Guest appearances by Jay Beckenstein, Jeff Lorber, Jimmy Haslip, Vinnie Colaiuta make this burning CD a must have for all Jazz Fusion fans!
2014-07-08
8. The many meanings of All In - Here’s an example of not only chasing dreams but catching them before they vanish into the thin air of life’s many unexpected detours and distractions. Scott has met his heroes and taken it to another level by patiently and meticulously allowing time to carry him to the completion of this project. He has established himself in his own way and then risen to the level of the master musicians he has been inspired by. Connecting with each of them in that “Scott Wilkie groovy poolside, beachfront, feel good kind of way” that he has so carefully caressed since Boundless came out in the ’s. This album is the antidote to the doldrums. Like Scott’s prior releases, we listeners are infused with rhythmic pulsations that work to make us smile and bob our heads—like chickens—and go back for more when we’re through. By gathering his grooviest rhythms yet and assembling his heroes track by track it really is ALL IN! Scott Wilkie is a master of feel good music. This album is yet another example of his boundless musicality. I hope he continues to grace us with his fine work for years to come. Bravo!

9. WOW! - I heard Scott jam with some other artists a few nights ago and got the opportunity to purchase this CD “pre-release”. I am so incredibly happy that I did. Scott has, possibly, the best hands in the business. His ability to have his emotions come through his instrument is second to none. His rendition of America the Beautiful brought a lump to my throat and a smile to my face. Don’t hesitate one moment - click purchase if you love incredible jazz. Scott doesn’t disappoint!

1. He Still Has It - It seems that Herb Alpert never ages, despite being in the music biz for over years. This new album has a youthful energy to it. For an year-old man to come up with something this fresh and appealing is incredible. He opens up with "Slick", a swinging jazz tune originally recorded in with the Tijuana Brass. On this version Alpert and keyboardist Jeff Lorber trade solos, and Alpert can hold his own on trumpet. The title tune follows, a light samba with more magical horn playing by Alpert, as well as vocals from wife Lani Hall. One of the more mesmerizing songs is a unique take on Lennon & McCartney's "Eleanor Rigby", done in a rather spacey, electronic feel. A beautiful ballad penned by Alpert and pianist Bill Cantos, "Will I See You Again", showcases Alpert's more pensive side. Perhaps the best tune is "Brazilian Moon", an uptempo romp featuring a rare guitar solo by Lorber and a memorable melody. Alpert revisits his past on songs like "I'm Comin' Home", originally done in with Hugh Masekela, and "Summertime", which he first did in . Alpert even gets into some reggae with "Fantasy Island". The only odd entry is "America The Beautiful", which he just recorded in . But that aside, this is a fresh, fun album that is joyous from start to finish. Definitely worth checking out!

1. SMOOTHJAZZ.COM REVIEW - True to the title of his latest can’t miss, in the pocket collection of radio-friendly gems and otherworldly sonic delights, guitarist, composer and producer Nils has been happily CAUGHT IN THE GROOVE as one of Smooth Jazz’s premiere hitmakers and producers for over years. Yet for the artist and his usual crew – including horn player and arranger Johnny Britt and vocalist Clydene Jackson - the easy funk flow is merely the launching pad for a multi-faceted experience. Nils complements his trademark crisp pop/soul/funk vibes with more ambient, atmospheric experimentation and deeper jazz musings with master pianist and Rhodes player Mitchel Forman. One listen and you too will be CAUGHT IN THE GROOVE!

1. Radiant - I don’t know the significance of ‘SEPTEMBER ‘’ to the album, but it’s surely significant to me because its one of the best songs I've heard in a long time! The saxophone is holding court on the title track ‘AMERICAN BEAUTY’ and I love the dynamics on ‘MONTREAL’. That’s a nice softer feel on ‘RAIN’ that makes it so neat and the strong disco beat is always going to put up a firm foundation for ‘SHE LOVES ME’.

1. Great Live Recording - Clearly not “rehashed” material (as one reviewer put it) but rather great Jazz music in which each rendition of a familiar composition is a completely new thanks to improvisation. I am listening to “chorinho” right now and would have to say it is very different from the version..just saying. Indeed it is unfortunate that Lyle hasn’t been as prolific in terms of recordings but it is nice to hear this quartet as these cats are seriously cooking..

2. Stellar - How nice to have a full concert with wonderful sound quality from this tour! These guys are playing at a level that is hard to comprehend. I'm consistently blown away listening to this. Very grateful this was released! Sure, I'd like something new from Lyle too - but I think it's obvious he's pretty much chosen to retire. He deserves to do whatever makes him happy. I'll be grateful for anything he chooses to release be it old or new. "That's always Lyle!" - Anonymous.

1. Aubrey gets stronger and stronger! - After the album "Impossible" - I thought it might be impossible to improve upon it. And, of course, I was wrong. "Where the Sunshine is Expensive" is tremendous in its musciality and in the depth of lyrics. Aubrey has taken her public offerings to an entirely new level. Listening to "L.A." I don't know whether to celebrate or mourn. It can be interpreted as a celebration of success, or conversely a ode to the very high cost of making it in Hollywood. Either interpretation it is a wonderfully honest and transparent song. Four songs later she picks up a similar mode in "Airport Codes" which in my opinion is the finest song on this album. "One Three Nine" and "Alfie" are beautiful tunes highlighting her incredible voice. This album will take her to the heights of success.

2. She’s the Real Deal! - This is a wonderful album on so many levels. The artistry that Aubrey and her band members display is impressive. All of the songs are spectacular. The style and manner in which it was recorded- everyone in the same room with a live audience (including myself!) Aubrey is going places. Find an opportunity to hear her live. You won’t be disappointed.

3. Pure Talent - This album is a work of genius. Every line in every song is written straight from the heart. There are so many emotions in this album- and they’re all portrayed beautifully. Every performer delivers a show-stopping performance, and knowing that the whole thing was recorded live makes it even more amazing. Thank you, Aubrey, Dave, and crew!

1. LIVE, LIVE, LIVE.... - Unlike some of you, I am one of the fortunate one's to get to see Scott Wilkie LIVE since he lives in my area. What's amazing about those moments is the kind of creative synergy the players exhibit. It never feels over rehearsed but more like a musical discovery and the joy of those collective moments revealed in how the songs become true "compositions." I don't know, maybe cause the players are more mature in experience of life, but there's a kind of relaxed intensity that each of the songs possess. It's both great background music (like all of Scott's upbeat stuff) but when I listened intently with earbuds, I could "hear" the confidence and camaraderie of quality musicians at the top of their game. And as you listen, one would think that the songs had to be overdubbed, solos redone, instruments swapped out, but when you watch the related videos online, it's clear this was ONE TAKE!! What a risky proposition for a band and I would think it would add a ton of pressure, I didn't sense any angst but only connectedness in the bliss of making music in the moment. The recording is stellar but also are Scott's producer skills. You can tell that with each record, he's also matured in how to get the most out of how he records and masters his albums and this record is no exception.. There's so much to say about the individual performances under Wilikie's masterful leadership but you must discover them for yourself...for in that journey, you'll surely find some gems. Enjoy!!
