1. Incredible Music - Wow, this recording is nothing short of incredible !!! This music both motivates and inspires, but most of all it swings !! Wynton and his band were in top form, while the crowd was electric with enthusiasm. This is all packaged in these wonderful arrangements. 1. To be perfectly Honest - I have given this a three star rating, because to be perfectly honest, I feel like Christian McBride is in a creative rut. I fell in love with Vertical Vision and the Christian Mcbride Band, but apparantly the people that do listen to Jazz despise fusion projects because Christian hasn't written or performed anything close to that stylistically in a long time. I guess this means the Jazz Police have won, as he puts in old podcasts. So far Youthful Bliss and a Message are pretty good. But remember, this review is more about his direction. Vertical Vision and Hiromi and Espernanza all gave me a fleeting moment where I felt Jazz was still alive and fresh, and had the potential to go new directions. I hope Christian comes to a crossroads after this album and goes somewhere fresh. This music is okay but I need some fusion man!

1. Would Love to See this as a Musical! - I am really enjoying this new release. I keep picturing it on stage. There's a lot of depth and possibilities here. I would be so excited to see and hear this on Broadway when we can again. The JLCO and Wynton Marsalis are national treasures whom I wish everyone could experience in this lifetime, and very inspirational as well creative. This is different to what you might expect, but perfect for these times.

1. Phenomenal..Incredible...Fantastic - Another home run for Gordon Goodwin. Absolutely love the new arrangement for The Incredibles theme and The Gordian Knot is just a fantastic composition. All the players are, as usual, freakin awesome; the best of the best LA has to offer. Being a composer and sax player there is such a wealth of material here for study, and to just sit back and absorb. I’ve seen live a couple times and just amazing. I can’t stop listening.

2. This is gonna be good - I have been fortunate to hear some of the tracks performed live in various setting so I am confident in my prerelease rating and and I can’t wait to hear the entire record when it comes out. In my opinion this is simply the best and tightest “big band” performing today. Gordon often says in their live performances that the guys in the band have day jobs so they can feed their big band habits. Buy this album and if you don’t already own his other releases, buy them too. The band is full of some of the best and most versatile musicians in the world and when they play together in this big band format, the result is simply magical. The music is technically demanding to play but very hip and easy to listen too. For some trivial pursuit see how many different buddy rich tunes you can name in the powerful tribute to the great buddy rich and his many fine bands. The title song may be one of the hardest to play that Gordon has written, but again, the band makes it sound so easy that it is just a joy to listen to. followup no that the album is out. The album is even better than expected. The musicianship throughout the entire ensemble is outstanding. This is grammy worthy music! Well done!

Always a good vocalist, here he’s polished to perfection, covering Frankie, Dean and the rest of the Pack. The Band was at top form: it sounds like they rehearsed for a year before recording this! For those looking for hard rock, this ain’t for you, but if your music tastes extend into the Swing, Jazz and Big Band sounds, snap it up!

2. From “Ferociously Stoned” to Sinatra, CPD in fine form - I’m a CPD lifer. Fortunate to have started at U of O in and saw the Daddies many times at small clubs, parties, WOW Hall, Good Times, opened for Fishbone at the EMU Ballroom, Chilkoot Charlie’s in Anchorage etc. When they started to get into swing much later on, I was “meh” at first but it grew on me. Now, with this collection, Cherry Poppin’ Daddies have really reached an apogee of talent, tightness and respect for their elders. Steve Perry is in truly fine form—he’s an amazing vocalist, and he interprets these classic tracks amazingly well. The opening number, “The Best Is Yet To Come” has an almost ominous beat and sound to it, they slides funkily not the groove thanks to Perry’s vocal track. Well known numbers follow—Fly Me To The Moon, Lady Is A Tramp, etc, . The Daddies are TIGHT on this record. The arrangements are very good—VERY good, and the band members are clearly into it. They’re loving this gig. We get Dana Heitman’s ever-amazing trumpet, bassist Dan Schmid provides a schmoovah-than-Telly Savalas’ head baseline at all times, and somewhere the RatPack is smiling. Speaking of, I’m confident the Chairman of the Board would have been down with MC Large Drink as a name. Great work CPD, for a fantastic record of standards. Lovin’ it!

1. Mismatched songtitles, poor audio quality - Several of these have the wrong title, which makes finding the right track to download confusing. Also, the audio quality is terrible. It's a shame because I love these songs. I don't know if it's Apple's fault or Cal's, but someone dropped the ball on this one.

1. Life changing - As a tenth grade trombone player in Alaska, Alan Ferber came to Sitka and played many of these songs for our jazz fest live. In every song from hyper ballad to kopi luwak there were several parts where Alan or the band did something that I had previously thought undoable. This album will always be my top one

1. Mooningless.... - This was released on April fools day! Is there a coincidence going on here? Alber has never been one with a great voice, but has had a few good songs over the years. He should have left the standards alone! I love a full moon but after listiening to ouch after ouch, I was ready for a new moon!

1. Can do without the singers - Chris Walden is one of my favorite new arranger/composers. I loved his first two releases, both stars. It was so long between No Bounds and Full On. I was very excited when Full On was finally released. You can imagine my dismay when I realized that half the album was devoted to singers, Singers are o.k for what they do, but they detract from the musicains on the album, in taking away their solo space. Sir Duke for instance, would of been better served with a trumpet challage instead of a American Idol type singer. The Band is also relegated to the background when the singers are featured. I do wish that Chris had released a full big band album and then a seperate singer album. If not for the singers, I would of rated this release Stars!!!!!!!! But all the singers dropped my rating to stars. So disapointing. Hopefully his next release will be a Full On big band album.

1. Normally - Normally I wait to get through several listens before rating an album - no need here! Excellent concept with Sosa and NRD Band combining for a lusterest sound, deep and rich, multinational, and diverese in the compositions. This is "World" music of the very highest order. Omar Sosa never stops in the quest - Highly recommended.
