1. A must for anyone interested in cinema - Roger followed a stupendous philosophy when observing films beyond the mere fabric of its chemical surface that most audiences would often not notice. To read a book observing to what in his subjective opinion makes a good film can help anyone who wants to be either a critic or a filmmaker better at understanding their craft. Films aren't about facts or simple roads to follow but about questions and feelings.

1. Wonderful book… when it’s printed correctly. - Harpo Speaks is one of my favorite books, such that I thought having a digital copy would be handy. Unfortunately, whoever and however this copy was made, it was made very, very badly. The photos pop up in random clusters, but the real issue is the typos. Ye gods, so many typos! They all can be traced to visual similarities between the words in the original and the words we got. The stand-out example was repeated at least three times, when Harpo referred to “the other gays” if you believe the Pickle Partners Publishing edition found here. I dunno what algorithm can’t distinguish between a U and an A but it needs updating. Yeah, it makes it an interesting experience, to be sure, but I’d really rather read the hooks as it was written. Harpo went to the trouble of getting someone to correct his spelling, for this?

3. Things you never knew, about a star who never spoke! - Who knew that the man in the film, who never uttered a word, had a life so full of laughter? When I first picked up this book... okay “downloaded,” I was captivated from the start. The wisdom that came from the streets of old New York City... The exuberance that sprang from stages crisscrossing America... and of course the heartwarming stories of growing up along side brothers who would become comedians know all over the world. That is what Harpo Marx, the writer, brings to life. A wonderful story that leaves you feeling you know this artist, as a member of your family. Don’t skip a page. It’s truly a marvelous narrative, that will touch you, as it touched me.

4. A refreshing and detailed look into his life - I enjoyed the book a lot. It recounts many parts of important history, as he tells his story of his life. He easily recounts in everyday words, his struggles, as he grew up and the very enthusiastic, almost beyond belief, of his, and his brothers’s, exuberant and wild stories and troubles that they got into. I learned of his efforts to rise in fame and his start in Hollywood, and his saga of being the first American to perform in Russia. What I thought was bigger than life anecdotes were truly bigger than life and full of zeal. His and his brothers strong betting/gambling are almost alarming. I got an inside picture of what the big-life was like at the Hearst Castle and at the French Riviera. I always had wondered about the family’s story, having seen bits and pieces in my lifetime, of an era that was before my birth time of . His work was humor and he gave it to our nation. He worked hard and had a meaningful life that we all can enjoy reading and attempt to go beyond our comfort zone and try to live life to the fullest, as he spoke to us.

5. Great words. Horrible proofing - Harpo's story is fascinating. I read this book years ago, and decided it was worth buying it to read again. I'm not sure if this was a Google scan, but the number of typos is unbelievable. You can usually figure out what the correct word is, but in some parts of the book you really have to work much harder than you should just to get through a chapter. I'm guessing no one actually proofed this thing.

6. A great read - To be honest, I was looking for something a bit more in depth, but was pleasantly surprised with this light reader. It was very fast paced, and I couldn't wait to read and see what he was going to do next in his career. It was a great insight to how life was in an era before mine. From his youth filled with poverty, to his later years, it was great to get a peek into the different lives he lead.

1. Educational - If a movie captivates you, do you immediately search for any information relating to that film like I do?? For those who love the John Wick franchise and want to know how it came to fruition read “They Shouldn’t Have Killed His Dog” by Edward Gross and Mark A. Altman. The book gives us behind the scenes information including accounts from the cast and crew. I now know why I love this franchise, inspiration stemmed from old and present martial arts movies I sat still for as a kid in the s. The book mentions thought processes for the next Chapter in the film series. I thought that would be especially helpful for script writers, book writers, or just writers in general. If you are a Keanu Reeves fan, behind-the-scenes info hoarder, movie buff, or writer to name a few, I recommend reading this book! 1. Fantastic Beasts Script - The Fantastic Beasts book is good. It was hard for me to get into it at times but it was decent. This novel is written by J.K. Rowling and is presented in script form. If you enjoyed Harry Potter, you should read Fantastic Beasts. One tip is since there is stage references in the script (and you don’t or aren’t familiar with acting) is near the back of the book there is a stage glossary that can be helpful to those who may not understand some stuff in the book. Overall, this was a good book.

2. I watched the movie... it was really dark - So I only watched the movie and like I said it was really dark. It had not witchcraft that Harry Potter had, I feel like that was good witchcraft and wizardry but the movie was pretty creepy. With that little girl who was evil and was like killing everyone I did not like it! I still love Harry Potter, it very captivating in the world of hogwarts. Not an enjoyable movie but I’ll se about the book

3. Epic - First and foremost, Newt is my favorite. Ever. Secondly: some people think this story doesn’t deserve all the hype it gets. I disagree. Remember how the first Harry Potter book was more of a simple, innocent story that grew into something deeper? I think Fantastic Beasts will do the same—just give it time. But I’m not saying the first story is boring. In fact, it’s the opposite! We get a glimpse into magic in America, and learn about new creatures. And the characters completely blew me away! ...especially Newt. P.S: We get a protagonist who’s a Hufflepuff? Yes please!

4. Absolutely Fantastic!! - So I have the hardback version of this book and I got it for Christmas. I saw the movie before I read the book and the book blew my mind! I wasn't sure if it would be able to put all the emotion of the movie into a screenplay but J.K did it. I like fantastic beasts more than Harry Potter cause it's not as dark as some of the last books like The Deathly Hallows or The Half Blood Prince. They're still awesome reads but it's just a little dark for me. And super sad like SPOILER and HUGE SPOILER deaths. Fantastic Beasts is an awesome read and I've read it or times already so go buy it!!

5. Review: Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Original Screenplay - Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them: The Original Screenplay by J.K. Rowling is exactly that, a screenplay of the movie Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (). This movie/screenplay storyline is inspired by the textbook of the same name that was released in also by J.K. Rowling (Part of the Hogwarts Library Series). Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is a bestiary of magical creatures from the Harry Potter universe and proceeds from the sale of the original textbook version go to Comic Relief. With all that out of the way - this screenplay was a fantastic (see what I did there?) read. Having seen the movie first it was like watching it all over again but in my mind. The scene descriptions, the dialogue, everything was just like the movie. It was a quick and enjoyable read and if there are future screenplay versions of the next four Fantastic Beast movies made available I will definitely be interested in reading them also.

6. How not to write a screenplay - This is a prime example of someone who has no clue how to formally write a screenplay, good thing the franchise sells itself. Any screenwriter could use this as primary curriculum to show all the mistakes untrained writers make in screen writing. Example- he is running toward the train. (No) He runs toward the train. "Ing" is almost never used in screenwriting. I'm sure the story is entertaining to some, but the writing should not be lauded.

8. This Is The Script Not The Original Book - Now that the title gets that out of the way, let me tell you the following: I have the original book (hard bound) published by Scholastic plus the original ebook released by Pottermore Store; they are both the same and entertaining reading, indeed. However, I'm pre-ordering this title so I can, as I did with "The Cursed Child", let my imagination take flight and visualize this wonderful world that a whole bunch of us has come to love!

9. NOT FOR THE MONEY - Thanks for sharing that tip, now people will do it and they will put a stop on it. Kind of like the movie sites, shhhh, some of us like having that option. On the other hand, I'll buy this when it comes on audio, so I can listen before going to sleep. So, I'll pay regardless, because J.K is an amazing writer with unbelievable imagination. 1. One of her best - The movie itself was not well executed but this is one of jk Rowling’s best stories if not the best. It’s up there with prisoner of Azkaban and half blood prince. In some ways it’s a stepping stone in a grand story and in other ways it’s a kind of genius allegory for how easy people are to manipulate.

2. Yaaaas Queen!! - So perfect. Credence is the best, most complex character and I can hear Ezra Miller in all Credence’s lines. I love the movie and the screenplay is just as thrilling!! Also I am a Slytherin but please don’t judge because I am one of the good Slytherins not represented in the books!

3. Great companion piece to the movie - After watching the movie, I had to read the screenplay so I could absorb more of the story and carefully read the dialogue to get a better sense of some of the story details. After all, what’s in the movie will become part of Harry Potter history and while we may not get a full novel, at least we can have a printed screenplay to reference. It’s filled with beautiful illustrations to accompany each scene. Please watch the movie first, but this is an excellent companion piece. Can’t wait for the third installment!

After reading this I realize every paradigm I had about story was not useful enough to create compelling content. 2. Good buy - Kinda sad I'm done with reading the book. Being a writer, it means I have to go back to writing and stop eating twinkies and reading a book about writing. The funny thing I learned from reading "writing for fun and profit" is, I like reading about writing, more then I actually like writing. I truly enjoyed the read, I laughed, and I learned. I've read "Save the cat" by Blake Snyder, which was a great book for formatting and writing a script, but, "writing for fun and profit" really get's in to detail about the real Hollywood. It answered a lot of questions I've had about the business which was worth my $. alone. Is it for everyone? Of course not. In my opinion, it's perfect for the writer that has just got a foot in the door. For a novice writer like myself, who does a lot of online sketch comedy, it really inspired me and will hopefully help/prepare me in the future. A lot of the book is filler that has nothing to do with the actual process of writing or selling a script, but it does keep you from getting bored, which I found refreshing. Overall, great read. / stars.

Writer is overly impressed with his vocabulary - Given the complexity of his topic, time periods, Russian names, it would have been nice if the author had not tried to use every SAT vocab word he had ever learned. Simplicity goes a long way. Plain language is key to understanding. But not in his world.
