1. A must read for all young ladies and women, especially brown and black ones - Such an authentic story of struggle, survival, resilience, healing, self love, growth, and self actualisation!!! It is a well written and deeply captivating autobiography. It includes lots of wisdom and is a worthwhile read for all young ladies and women, especially brown and black ones.

2. Beautifully written stories of perseverance and healing. - I really enjoyed this book. Her stories of poverty and different kinds of abuse resonated with my life. I was rooting for her throughout the book. It was really insightful to see all of Viola’s life experiences that have shaped her into the successful actor that she is.

3. VIOLA DONE DONE IT - I cried SO hard reading this book. The self actualization and the the realization of God’s work in hindsight was SO good at the end! I mean I read this book in just a few sittings and I am amazed at the word play and just the concept of finding SELF!! That’s why it’s entitled FINDING ME!!

4. Finding Me - What an incredible memoir. As a white person and a retired really good Therapist, I thought I was pretty enlightened about racism, poverty and trauma. Yet I learned several remarkable, profound and brand new life changing “things” that I had never ever known before. Thank you Viola Davis. You are beautiful in every way.

5. Honest and uplifting - I read this because I sometimes find myself feeling like I am the most unfortunate creature to graze the earth. I feel unwanted and rejected in my existence and I heard about this book from a friend and wanted to know if anyone that I deemed successful could have come up from similar beginnings as I. While reading this, I cried. It gave me great hope to know that there is hope for me and no matter how outcast I am I can still lead a happy successful life.
2022-12-15
6. Fear and Forgiveness - This was a tough read for me. It is only in the last ten years or so that I have begun to understand the tangible differences between my life experiences and those of the Black women I know or have admired. The first time in my life that I felt overwhelmed by fear was the Cuban Missile Crisis. The first time I felt grievous anger at my status was when my ex was able to sell my car without my knowledge. The first time I felt a sickening shame was when I was very publicly fired by people I thought of as friends, but who did not care “why” there was a problem, but only that their own positions were threatened. I now know that many, most, some, enough women of color have felt those same life altering emotions on a daily basis. Ms. Davis has written a singularly stirring and powerful wide screen text book for those in the white community who can’t even begin to imagine where the anger and rage expressed by Blacks and Hispanics came from.

7. Incredible transforming - I could not put this book down! The most honest and heart wrenching recalling of one’s life. I cried, laughs and celebrated her joy. As a read this book my heart understood her struggle. The best part is Viola clawed her way out to happiness and fulfillment. She didn’t wait for someone to give it to her. She fought tooth and nail to get there. Thank you for sharing your life story. I felt, seen, heard and valued through the pages of this book and brought me forgiveness, understanding and peace. Thank you Viola!

8. INCREDIBLE - This book touched my heart and soul in a way I didn’t know was possible. I’ve loved Viola since I saw her in HTGAWM and after reading this book, I respect her even more. She is a true inspiration. The raw emotions I felt and identified with were so surprising but so cathartic. I highly recommend you read this book and I promise you will not want to put it down.

9. Finding Peace - Viola Davis gives us a lot to ponder during her retelling of her past through present. We are asked to reckon with colorism, trauma, and the required truth telling on the journey to self acceptance. With hers there is so much pain that it is hard to make it from page to page. Viola Davis reminds us through woeful memories that the body keeps the score. That same past primed her for playing the lead in “How to get away with murder.” Despite all the hurt she underscores for us that “forgiveness is giving up all hope of a different past.“ With great humility Davis gives us an inside look at the climb from raw talent to award winning esteem. Hers is a journey to the understanding that the process of “Finding Yourself” begins with first speaking buried truths. The types of revelations that humble you and show us how we lie to ourselves in order to move forward.
2022-10-02
10. Totally Moving and Enlightening - Reading Viola’s story was heartbreaking and amazing. Her determination to become who she is. The strength and courage to get up every day knowing that she would face struggles. I have a much deeper respect for her and all she has done. I highly recommend this book.
2022-08-27
11. Raw and Inspirational! - Viola Davis has given us her all. Her journey from abject poverty to the life she lives today is nothing short of a miracle. Poverty, classism, colorism, and racism were a constant in her life, yet she still prevailed. There are uncomfortable truths being told in this memoir, but there is also joy, as Viola finds her way, finds her love, and finds herself.
2022-08-17
12. Viola is me! - I read this book in days! She speaks for all of us dark skinned women with a story to tell. She is raw. She is real. She is living out her truth as she heals herself and lives a life she fully deserves. Today I found a bit more courage to keep fighting. I fell in love with Viola all over again. She is me.
2022-08-07
13. Finding Me - The first - pages of the book were tough for me to get through. After that, it was a great read. I know that Viola Davis encountered barriers that I can not conceive if. That being said, I was able to relate in a small sense to some of her struggles. Both as a woman and as someone with a chronic medical condition, there were places where I said, I totally get where she is! Great read both as a woman and as a reminder of how much further our society has to go!
2022-07-26
14. Finding me - Tender and raw at the same time this biography had me at the edge of my seat reading like it was the only thing I could do. I specially love her description of forgiveness of family and acceptance of a past that is simply gone but had left trauma and good memories at the same time. Beautiful work . Love miss Viola!
2022-07-15
15. Excellent & Highly Recommend!!! - I saw Viola’s interview with Oprah on Netflix about her new memoir and I was transfixed by her story. I immediately bought the audiobook and listened to it. It’s one of the top biographies I’ve read/listened to. Viola’s story is extremely compelling, raw, poignant, and insightful. To me, it’s on the level of Maya Angelou’s autobiographical series, starting with I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings. I can’t recommend it enough.
2022-06-26
16. Just wow - This book is so powerful I felt a handful of emotions and I was sad when it ended I wanted to hear more of Viola’s adventures! Soooooo good I had the audio and she made it so realistic for me my imagination wandered! I feel more sure of myself I love myself more! I am beautiful I am loved I am ME!

1. No pictures?? - This is a very good memoir, very honest and raw…but I have complaints……NO PICTURES???? I mean, this woman made a career out of being photograph for thousands of magazines and then some…and it does not include a centerfold full of pictures with commentaries about each photograph and their meaning to her career???
And my complaint…she tries so hard to be so poetic and philosophical that by the middle of the book you just get kinda sick of it.

2. Don’t judge a book by its cover… - I’ve always loved Pamela Anderson since I was a little girl and saw her as the pretty blonde on Home Improvement. When you read this book, you realize how much more she is than a pretty blonde that hollywood discovered. She comes off as highly intelligent, creative, deep, tough, funny and so so cool. The book is highly entertaining (ugh! her and tommy! ) but also unexpectedly touching. I loved the stories about how much she loves her kids. Her poetry through out is lovely too. I just loved it and i am here for the Pamela Anderson renaissance!!!

1. Love - Kelly, if you’re reading this I just want you to know that I’m a mom of a and year old, and cried through your empty nest stories about your three kids. Knowing one day that would be me. I already dread it!
I’ve watched Live! many times over the years, and have always absorbed your tips of wisdom. This book is no different. Thank you for sharing even more!
P.S. you should write semi-fictional novels about love or loving kids or something of the sorts, I think you’d be good at it.

2. Typical Kelly Bragging ! - Very confusing at times. Jumped all over the place. Her bragging gets old quick . You will get tired of her talking about Marks great looks and hers. She comes across as a insecure person who needs to have constant attention . The book was a waste of money. It’s her and Mark telling each other how beautiful they are. Mark has the little man syndrome !
2022-10-07
3. So very good! - I have never read a celebrity memoir, book of essays or any other genre. I have always liked Kelly Ripa and to be honest chose this because I didn’t have anything on my queue that caught my eye! I am so glad that I did. This was an example of how everyone should write. She was honest, funny, detailed, self deprecating, petty and heartfelt all at once. It was extremely relatable and entertaining while also containing a few great name drops. A must read for sure!

1. After the dance - A must read for all fans of Marvin Gaye. He educated us all in one way or another. His talent lives on thankfully for the young can also peer into his inner vision. Thank you Jan for sharing your incredible highs and lows. You allowed us to see the whole Marvin. Not just the silky sounds and words heard on records but the genius that lived within. I appreciate your bravery in sharing your relationship.

2. Intimate look into the life and times of a genius - Wow, very deep and intimate look into the life of Marvin Gaye. The ups and downs, good and bad, and the pure and dark side of a his complicated outlook on love and life. Brutally honest account of a genius’s inner struggle and the profound effect it had on the people who loved him most.
2019-09-18
3. After the Dance - The book is money to her and why did she cheat and do drugs with young children He can’t say what’s true because he’s dead and personally she didn’t need to tear him down . After his father murdered him she Has the audacity to write garbage and does she think of her children I think not . Simply an opportunist and not very nice at all don’t read this garbage.
2018-10-18
4. Insightful - I'm such a huge, huge Marvin Gaye fan. From other books and articles, I understood he had many demons. Still, this book was shocking and sad. It holds up a mirror that allows us to see Jan, as well as Marvin, and into their world, from her perspective. The book didn't hold back and was thoughtfully well written. Definitely worth reading and for true fans will cement your understanding that Marvin's music genius was birthed by his childhood family dynamics and ensuing emotional pain that ruled his turbulent adult life. He was both tragic and brilliant and sought out a very young partner who couldn't recognize the difference because she too had her own demons and insecurities She owned her life story in this book but it's remarkable that she survived to tell it.

5. Outstanding Story - I was compelled by this book! If you love autobiographies and a great story...read this! Janis Gaye's life w/ Marvin Gaye was shocking, sad and sweet. For this lady to still be standing is only the grace of God! This is an EXCELLENT book! I could not put this book down. I would recommend this book to all! Be prepared to shed tears. I can see how this book took decades to write. Powerful!

6. Doxie - This has to be one of the most intriguing awe inspiring book that I have read in awhile.
I read the book in two sittings. I was and still is such a fan of Marvin Gaye and reading this book just make me have a greater understanding of the man and his struggles.
I have to read it again because I enjoyed it so much.
Thanks Jan Gaye for your honesty.
RIP Marvin Gaye

1. The Billy Bob Tapes - I've been a fan of Mr. Thornton since Evening Shade. I think he's great. I think this book is one of the best biographies I've ever read. Very hard to put down. My favorite part of the book is where he mentions unless one has been an actor or screen door maker, he/ she has no idea how tough it is. Having been a public school teacher for the last years, I can relate. I get sick of politicians and anyone else who hasn't spent one minute doing the job, telling us what it should be. Thanks for the enlightenment Mr. Thornton.
Very entertaining read.
2014-05-24
2. Great read! You feel like you're sitting down with Billy Bob. - The Billy Bob Tapes is a great read! You feel like you're sitting at the dining room table with Billy Bob. There is great insight into the film and music industries, as well as life and culture. As you listen to Billy Bob speak, you feel like he thinks he's the only person who ponders life and culture as he does. That makes me sad for Billy, because many of us feel like he does. He speaks of a culture that is changing rapidly and has fallen apart, in many respects. He says he doesn't like people who tear down things. So, if you're one of these people, you'll really enjoy this book.
2012-12-31
3. Love love love - Wasn't sure I wanted to read this book...saw Billy Bob on a bunch of talk shows...but I downloaded the sample & was sold sucked in & couldn't believe how much I enjoyed!!! Billy Bob Rocks and you will miss out if you don't read this well written book. I personally could hear his voice telling the story!! Outstanding!!!
2012-06-19
4. Good Read, Just Wish It Were Longer! - I really enjoyed reading this book that Billy Bob Thornton recorded and was transcribed by Kinky Freedman. I have always been a Billy Bob fan and now I feel
like I know more about the man and like him even better. I would highly suggest this to anyone who is a fan of Mr. Thornton. My only complaint is that the book was too short.
2012-06-01
5. The Billy Bob Tapes - I have read many, many books. This is my first review. Could not put it down. Thank you Kinky and especially Billy Bob for a brilliant, hilarious, bare your soul memoir of a man that I have felt connected to since Slingblade. I feel as if I've always known you Billy Bob. I love your candor and hope someday to hang out with you. I share some of your idiosyncrasies, experiences, and come from your time. Love it, love it, love it!!!
2012-05-19
6. Insightful - I'm a fan and a "Planateer" and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this memoir. Don' t judge Billy by sometimes negative press and others perceptions. Read his words and understand his creative genius from a truly guileless perspective. Some stories are deeply personal, some are dark, some are loving, and some are hilarious. It's a slice of life and very relatable even if you didn't grow up in the south or win an Oscar.

1. Bunnies aren’t meant to be caged - It took me a while to get through the first half of this book. Nothing against Holly-
A lot the beginning is about her relationship with Hugh Hefner at his mansion/bunny prison and, sorry, but Hugh is just not a person I have ever had much interest in. Anyway, when I reached the second half of the book I couldn’t put it down! The nd half was inspiring. It’s more about her personal/professional experiences, struggles, and triumphs.
Overall, it was a good & insightful read. Good for Holly!

2. Eye opening - As a girl that grew up in the s, I thought the Playboy girls were everything to aspire to, they were beautiful and people loved them and they got to just dress up all day and party all night. This book was a heart wrenching and eye opening look at what was going on behind the scenes of the public facade we all adored. My heart hurt for Holly, as I read how she stuffed her dreams down and felt stuck with no way out. Having finished the book I feel incredibly proud of her subsequent success and happiness. It is so deserved.
2022-01-13
3. Behind the Scenes - I had previously saw reviews of this memoir online long ago and once I started binge-watching GND, I purchased the book and could not stop reading it !! (no really, I had to stop watching the program to read) Holly is so well spoken and well versed. And I love the Alice in Wonderland references. It was very intriguing to see the world from Holly’s POV and to know how she lived happily ever after.
2021-12-01
4. Loved it - As a fan of the Girls Next Door I found this to be eye opening. When I watched the show I wasn’t a fan of Holly but following her on social media I became a fan through her love for Disney, HP, and spooky things. Truthfully I didn’t know reality TV was THIS scripted. I often found myself unable to stop reading this book and haven’t finished a book this fast in years.
2021-04-28
5. Early ’s lifestyle truth - I’ve always been so intrigued by watching the girls next door and following the girls afterwards. It was so nice to know what being in your ’s during the pivotal time or being thin with big boobs and strutting your body was like. Very well written and makes me respect Holly more!
2020-10-14
6. I actually loved this book!!! - I wasn’t sure about this book at first. I mean it was a prior playboy model writing a book. Enough said, right!? Wrong! The reason why Holly Madison was the first in line of the “Girlfriend’s of Heff” was because she was smart and she was fast, and witty, relatable, and a fantastic person. She was always great to watch on “The Girls Next Door” with the other ladies. After that show I had always hoped she would do great things. And of course she didn’t disappoint. She became relevant and she became a star all on her own! So she isn’t just another Playboy Model! She is much much more and I am so happy that she wrote this book about the Mansion Days and Beyond! I promise you will not be able to put it down like I was unable to! Thank You Holly for writing this book and can’t wait to read the next one!
2020-01-13
7. Shocking and extremely detailed - This book was so detailed and precise to a tea. I couldn’t put it down (and I don’t normally make reviews). Holly addresses almost every headline/rumor addressed in the media about her life, loves, and “friends” (aside from Bridget). She holds nothing back. There were parts in the book I read cringing to myself, “Did she really just say that”. Her ability to showcase herself with such a raw persona allows her readers to connect to her struggles making her a character to root for almost in a fairytale but in the sense of a cold harsh reality.
2018-10-18
8. Well worth the read! - I had wanted for a while to read this book and I could not be happier with the purchase. So many things make sense to me now. I had NO IDEA her life at the mansion was so terrible. Holly always, and still does, came across a genuine person with an incredibly kind soul. Shame on all those people who treated her badly. It literally brought tears to my eyes while reading the end that I had to keep stopping to clean my eyes because I couldn’t see the words clearly! I am so happy this beautiful woman found her happily ever after. She sure deserved it!
2018-06-03
9. Yuck. - Any thought that Hugh Hefner was instrumental in the empowerment of women is shut down by this book. Maybe in theory but bottom line- creepy old man. Holly holds nothing back and I read this book in a day. A great tell-all and look into the lives of those beautiful women chosen to grace the pages of Playboy.
2018-05-01
10. BUY!!!! - I can’t believe I’m at the end and finished. I may re-read just to relive the adventure. I could see everything as I read. I laughed, maybe shed some tears, I felt for Holly and wished I could have been there as a shoulder to cry on. I know how she must have felt. And the Girls Next Door was popular because of the girls in it! Not Hef. It was never his. I wish all the best to Holly and her family. You Cinderella, have found your happiness. I hope more happiness comes your way. And I hope you see this review. This book is worth buying and was worth the wait for me to buy. I’m sad i finished reading it! Now for Vegas Diaries!!!(also by Holly Madison)
2017-12-25
11. Interesting read but kind of all over the place - Book kept me intrigued but I felt she jumped around a lot. The excessive use of exclamation points got a little annoying. She talks about how she was bullied by these women but also puts them down in her own way. Her struggles and accomplishments are empowering, however.
2017-11-18
12. Girls next door - I remember watching the GND when I was a lot younger, it was one of my favorite shows. After reading this book I watched GND episodes I haven't seen in years, I picked up on things that Holly pointed out in her book. I really didn't think I would enjoy the book as much as I did but I thought it was great. I couldn't put it down, I finished it within about two days.
2017-04-27
13. Mis-Spelling - This was an okay book I suppose. I was thinking it would be juicer but it was kind of dull. I even found misspellings. "A week letter I received a letter from Hef reprimanding...." It shows page of my iBooks, not sure where it would be in the actual book. But learn how to spell Holly!!
2016-07-19
14. Such a great read! Playboy fans will enjoy - While a lot of people are saying she lied her way through this book, you have to read and think to yourself, "well this does make sense"
While I hate to hear the true story I still consider Playboy an amazing old Hollywood iconic brand and Holly to be a wholesome person.
2016-05-19
15. Holly's Fairy Tale - I loved this biography. It was a fun book to read. I felt like I was on an adventure with Holly and I not only enjoyed The Girls Next Door but I'm also very excited that her dreams finally came through. Maybe her next book with share her life with her husband and Rainbow. Hope they all continue to live the real fairy tale and maybe someday she, Kendra and Bridget can become friends again.
2016-05-14
16. Worst Book Ever - This entire book was about Holly feeling bad for herself. She takes absolutely no responsibility for her life and the steps she's taken to end up where she is. Hef took advantage and abused her, the girls were mean bullies and Holly was the sweetest thing being pushed around and abused by everyone but never ever leaving because she was trapped. Grow up. You had no problem accepting all your girls next door paychecks. If you don't like your life, change it. Stop blaming everyone else.

1. Should have been called "dating diaries" - It's good but not as great as down the rabbit hole. But if you watched Hollys world and saw peep show it is interesting. But all in all it's basically a look into every relationship she had up until getting married. It's funny she thinks so hard on herself and being associated with playboy etc.. I really saw her for an independent women back after she left the mansion and in this book she really really continuously talks about how everyone just associated her with that. That is her perception of the publics eye about her but I never felt that vibe, my perception was always thinking it was so cool she took what she was given and ran with it and did her own thing and made her own name for herself. I hope she reads this and realizes not everyone thought of her as just some ex girlfriend of hef.

1. One of the best books - This book tells the ups and downs that the band and themselves have throughout there lives! It’s crazy to read about the tears, laughter, blood and sweat they put into there lives and probably into this book. Overall this book is a /! I’m so glad I had gotten to read this amazing book, it’s just like wow! I couldn’t stop reading this book. All I could say is if you’re thinking about reading it, don’t even think just buy it!

2. Well done, if you don’t like them... - While Motley Crue has never been anywhere close to one of my favorite groups, and I haven’t even listened to half their albums, “The Dirt” was quite a well put together autobiography. In addition to the main four members, there are chapters by other people associated with them. The chapters go through each of the four Motley Crue members in first person, with probably more by Nikki Sixx than any of the others. They cover their childhoods and how they got into music, and relationships with their parents and families. Then it goes on to them all in Los Angeles, partying and meeting one another at various places until they wind up all together, thanks to an advertisement in “The Recycler”. Three of the four of them living together in a two bedroom house while they get their band going. For their first two albums and tours they’re all very much together as a group, and the partying is still a lot of fun. After the success of their second album and tour, though, things change…. They’ve got money flowing, long term relationships with women and by then their living mostly separate lives, and partying isn’t fun anymore, they’re addicted to drugs and alcohol. By then they’ve lost the “one for all, all for one” attitude. At various times Nikki and Tommy clearly let on that they’re shocked themselves how far “over the line” some of their drug and sex fueled antics have gone. And while they realize it, they aren’t able to get control of themselves to do much. Chapters by Nikki, Tommy and Vince all have the same written style to them, while the ones by Mick Mars make him stand out as a very different person, which fits as he’s a decade older than the rest, a lot more private, dealing with very different health problems, and put more time in struggling to “make it” than they did. And Vince is easily distinguished from the others, seeming to feel more of an outsider in a different way. The only blonde member, with different interests and without seeming to have a life-long love of music, the rest sort of shunned him after his drunk driving caused a fatal accident. He points out in one of his chapters how he was suddenly, universally hated by fans and critics, which I actually remember as a teenager. On the other hand, the saddest, most tear-jerking chapter is also his, with the death of his four your old daughter to cancer. Towards the end, though, the book gets a bit rushed. Written in , at a time when Tommy Lee was out of the band, and Randy Castillo was drumming, there aren’t any chapters by Castillo or mention that he was suffering from some major medical issues. Overall it’s a well done book. Even if you’re not a fan of Motley Crue it’s a good read about them.

3. Could not put it down! - I have to admit I am not an avid book reader. Books have a hard time catching my attention but this book, however, caught me from the first page and I couldn’t put it down. The story telling comes from the band members themselves and the stories and lives the Crue lived were captivating, jaw dropping, outrageous and heart breaking. Really enjoyed this book and I’m sure it’s partly because I’m a fan. It’s a must read for all Crue fans!

4. Simply Amazing - I grew up a Motley fan. They were and still are an inspiration to me as a musician! It was really cool to read about their lives throughout their career. I hope to hear of a book starting where they left off up till their last retirement show. I read The Heroine Diaries first and it was EXCELLENT!! Me being a guitar player, but primarily a drummer, my next read will be Tommyland. Can’t wait to read it! My dream is to meet and become real friends with Tommy Lee. He just seems like an awesome dude and I think we would be good friends! Anyway, read The Dirt. It is a great read!!!!!!

5. Peter Pan rock and roll - This book begins well. I love the music. Be prepared for guys who never grow up and mature and are spoiled brats at age -, plus one very unfortunate witch who grows older at x the normal human rate, but is terrorized by the fact that he has to live forever and hang out with spoiled brats that are unable to kill themselves despite constant attempts. The harrowing story of witch Mars will make you thank god for your own mortality and more than likely help your own relationship with your spouse.

1. Good Read - I really enjoyed reading this book. I’m perplexed by one thing though, I know Janie and Eddie were separated at the time of his death, but truthfully, Janie helped Eddie get clean and sober. Something Valerie was seemingly unable to do. I wonder why Janie was never acknowledged in helping Eddie getting clean and straightening up his act? She surely played a big role in it. Also, I know there are sides to every story and relationship, but wonder why Valerie and Toms marriage broke up? Was it because she so vocally grieved and mourned Eddie’s death as if Tom never existed? Kind of negating their whole marriage? Just a few things that made me ponder. But all in all I loved the book.

2. It’s all about love - I loved the authenticity and honesty with which Valerie wrote her book “Enough Already”. I was drawn into her life where she shares her doubts & fears about life. However, I was equally enthralled by the love she shares about family, especially, her son Wolfie and first husband Ed. The foodie part of her was such an added bonus! As an older person myself, I relate to how I’ve finally accepted myself as well with the good, the bad & the ugly. It’s all about love as Valerie has finally realized.
2022-09-09
3. Boring and Redundant - I was really looking forward to reading this but unfortunately found it redundant. I skipped through many pages because the repetitive rants got old. Every time I thought she had truly had “enough” and was moving on and up the narrative slipped back into the negative self image. Two thirds of the way through I had had enough already… save your money.
2022-01-27
4. TOTALLY WONDERFUL BOOK - This book by Valerie is the best memoir I have read in a very long time! It’s like your best friend is sitting next to you telling stories about her life. Every page is relatable. I read passages that made me stop and look for a highlighter so I could remember what I had read that really touched me. Certain passages spoke to me on a very personal level and I wanted to reread again and again! Run to your local book store or buy the ebook but just buy it! You won’t be disappointed!!!!

1. Thank you Debbie Harry for this excellent music time capsule - So well-written and honest but not staid and stuff like some autobiographies. Debbie Harry’s voice and grit come through with the punk edge she still has today. It felt like a great, long conversation you’d have with a legend at a bar over a long night of beers until the wee morning.
2023-02-02
2. Worth reading - She has a unique outlook on the Bew York music and art scene that is unmatched really. She was born to do this and in a time that was ready for her- the ’s and ‘’s. The music holds up. The sex drugs and rock and roll seems quaint and nostalgic now and like her I wish I could be transported back to my youth then. But fir now I’ll enjoy this book. She seems like she is enjoying herself. Good for her.
2020-11-12
3. Not the rebel she thinks she is - A scattered and oddly depressing autobiography. Debbie is one of those thinkers who deludes herself that she’s some rebel because she “broke the rules” ie took drugs, played in a band. made some terrible art, and didn’t get married or have kids - pretty much the very things that shallow capitalist culture promotes today. Her boomer generation were conned into bringing this stoned out nihilism into the mainstream. She imbibed the whole deal, and. even at an advanced age, thinks it was trailblazing. It just comes across as sad. Her “deep” insights read like the diversity statements from any major American corporation. She may have been punk for a minute, but she has bought into conventional globalist liberalism since. This is Coca Cola rebellion with yawningly predictable opinions that dovetail with the “correct” way to think. There’s nothing edgy here. Certainly nothing to get you booted from social media - the barometer for edginess these days. If anything, she is at pains to demonstrate how in agreement with current orthodoxy she has always been. But the hits were glorious. Shame she wasted half her life since the hits stopped in the early s. Those amazing genes were never passed on. Despite her yearnings to find her real parents, she never became one. So after the Blondie heyday, much of this book is prattle about numbing the emptiness via drugs and sex. Her solo work is largely forgettable, as is her film work. Listen to Blondie’s music and skip this - it’s not worth your time.

1. I knew it all along - It’s a fan’s must read, but it prominently demonstrates that my favorite band was composed by a bunch of petulant children (save for Michael). Not a surprise. It’s a necessary historical account, but you come away with the same empty feeling as the author. Noel displays incredible objectivity in this book despite his treatment. I think Van Hagar (only mentioned due to epilogue) could have been the happy ending, but the VH brothers managed to F that up too. Oh well... You’ll need a happy book to read after this one. Thanks for writing it Mr. Noel, it had to be done.

2. Great read!! - I got a good sense of what touring with Van Halen was like. The ultimate party! But it really showed the relationship between the guys in the band. And the outside looking in of a band on verge of destruction. Which made for great music! Wish I was old enough to have seen Van Halen in their hay day but I did get to see them on the reunion tour in .

3. Great, fast read! - I’m not much a reviewer but I’m a huge Van Halen fan. Noel Monk, Van Halen’s manager circa - nails it with this one. Most of what you probably thought about the band is true... having it chronicled in thoughtful and well written detail was a pleasure on every page. This guy was there from the beginning and through the tour and subsequent departure of DLR. if you’re a fan.. just read it. You’ll be glad you did.

4. The Best book on Van Halen - This book I found to be the Best true book about Van Halen.
I was there from '-'.
First as road manager in ', then as personal manager from '-'.
No hear say, but rather I lived with the band and experienced everything first hand.
What an exciting time we all had.
All truth and no fiction!
Enjoy reality and have an amazing ride!
All the Best,
Noel

5. Well told story about early Van Halen - Great, breezy read about Van Halen in the David Lee Roth years. Just interesting to hear the stroies of the music (some great rock and roll) and the debauchery of a rock band in the s. Sad, too given the dysfunction of the Van Halen brothers and the abuse they endured and how childish they both were (wonder if they still are?). Michael Anthony was just the typical bass player (Luke warm water) and got abused because of it (losing his publishing and writing money). David Lee Roth - well, he’s exactly as you’d figure.

6. Just What I Suspected - Great book, I’m a huge VanHalen fan and have followed the band since I was a teenager. The book and the stories ring true. Good read. ....Michael Anthony.....nice guy, solid person. David Lee Roth....self absorbed
Eddie VanHalen...dysfunctional addict Alex Van Halen....kind of a strange dude

7. This is a great read. - If you were a fan of early VH, this book will show you a side of the brothers you may not know. DLR, was and remains DLR....Michael remains classy to this day. You may be surprised at how he was treated. Love the music from those days, just not wild about of the guys who made it any longer.

8. The real scoop - Well written and full of enlightening stories that even diehard VH fans likely haven't heard before. Wish the author had more time in the studio with them to better understand their creative process. Eddie is one of my musical heroes but it makes me sad to read again how far down the rabbit hole he went with his addictions. I hope he remains healthy and sober now and shares more of his musical gift with us in the future. Thank you Monk for keeping the band together as long as you did. Your dedication to these guys shines through every page.
2017-06-21
9. Better VH Books Are Out There - This book is a quick read as the coauthor was able to succinctly edit key points for a nice flow. Content wise there are better VH books out there. If you want to hear stories on Eddie and Alex check out Sammy Haggar's book Red. Monk's book tends to focus on DLR specific topics while almost desecrating EVH as the book progresses. There's a reason VH got rid of this guy who essentially claims to have been / of the band lol.

1. A great read!!! - Both Clint and Ron are so truthful in their stories. Showing their egos, weaknesses and low points as well as their triumphs. This book was more a tribute to Jean and Rance Howard than a biography. I loved it. I feel I grew up with these guys and have known them all my life through their films and TV roles. Great stuff.
2022-08-20
2. Highly Recommended! - So interesting & entertaining. I admire the Howard boys for never saying anything negative about the people they worked with. One of the best biography/memoir I have ever read. We just knew them as actors but the book reveals so much more. I strongly recommend it to anyone who grew up with them on tv & the big screen.
2022-04-09
3. Great first half..so-so second half - I liked reading about the family’s beginnings and through to The Andy Griffith Show. After that, the “director” emphasis was not as compelling. I wanted more anecdotes about Tom Hanks and other big personalities in his movies. But….I am always fascinated to hear behind the scenes stories; therefore was disappointed there was very little of that. My expectations were not met, and that’s my fault for making them too high.
2022-04-03
4. Fantastic book I highly recommend - A fantastic book. For someone who is the same age as Ron, it was great to relive my childhood years with an inside look at all the shows I grew up with. I could not put this book down. It was so fascinating to read about the Howards and all they’ve been through. I highly recommend this book.

1. If you are a fan... or not. - If you are a fan of Bobby Bones, a member of the BTeam or even if you only just discovered him, I highly recommend the audiobook version of Bare Bones. I have not read the hardcover but after listening to the audio version, I don’t think I ever will. His narration is so much like a friend sitting down next to you and just telling you the story of his life. I actually found myself talking back to him in some parts. Like “Oh no Bobby tell me you didn’t...”. His humor and personality comes flying out of the speakers, but at times he is so genuine that it is heartbreaking. It had me laughing and crying, and at some points gagging. Getting ready to listen again to be sure I didn’t miss anything. Well done.

2. The real deal! - What a great book! Bobby is a inspirational person who lets you in his real life and feelings! He lets you in and never lets go! He talks about himself and his faults and makes the reader feel as if their own struggles aren’t all that bad! I enjoyed this book as much as I listen to his podcasted radio show! I feel as we could hang out as friends and totally get one another! I love how candid he is about his life! Well time to download the next book...whoops there goes another bucks...don’t worry I was broke anyways! Lol!!

3. Real. Inspirational. Funny. - I've listened to the Bobby Bones show for a year and knew most of the stories and information about Bobby. However I think the last couple chapters really helped some up a lot of inspirational points. Not only is this a good book but it helps you to reflect life. To better explain the book here are two mottos: fight, grind, repeat. And everyday is a good day. Not the best written but that is some of the essence of it being real.

4. Very bare bones - I listen to The Bobby Bones show. I like it. But Now, I feel an obsession coming on. Bobby really bares all. It's very raw. And real. Some of the stuff he admits to is pretty uncomfortable. The fact that he's able to open up like this just makes him that much more endearing. I can relate to him on several levels. Again, I feel an obsession coming on. God bless you Bobby! God keep you. Thank you for inspiring me to be a better person. PimpingJoy

5. Poor in the most southern stateHawaii - Mr. Bobby Bones book was a pleasure to read on my weekend off this past th of July weekend. I could not put it down. In hours of starting I finished the heart warming stories he told about his life. Very well written and so easy to understand and a fun book to read. I had the fortunate upbringing to be a transplant from Chicago and live in Hawaii as a kid. A very similar upbringing such as being bullied by the islanders everyday not because I was small as I was the tallest in my school, but because I was a haole (white foreigner) I really hated kill haole Friday. It made my tougher LOL
This is not about me this review is about you Mr Bobby Bones. I just wanted to write that many things that happened to you happened to me only now I really laugh at the bad things. Unlike you as you should sir. Learn from the past but don't dwell on it. Concerning finding your wife or lady of your dreams the more energy you put in your search the sooner it will happen. Upon finishing this letter I will be praying for your future soul mate. By the way I listen to your show every morning on the way to work. A real fun show. You do a great service to your listeners. Keep up the good work. Regards

6. Great read! - I recently started listening to the Bobby Bones show and when he started talking about his book I became interested. I downloaded it a few days ago and I just finished it. I don't read many books b/c I'm a busy mom of kids that works full time so if I do find the time to start reading a book I usually fall asleep. Not with this one! It was a very touching story about a very genuine guy. It was a great read that kept my interest the whole time. Well done Bobby Bones; you have a forever fan in me!

7. Heartfelt & Entertaining - As a regular listener of the Bobby Bones Show, I've been anticipating the release of this book so quite some time. Bobby tells a heartfelt, entertaining and raw story of what it takes to carry out of dreams while maintaining your roots and humility. An easy but inspiring read. TwoThumbsUp
2016-06-24
8. Firsts - This book has inspired me in so many ways, I've stopped counting. I can't seem to stop talking about it to my friends and co-workers. Yet, those aren't the two firsts resulting from reading this book. This is my first time reading an Autobiography and actually enjoying it. I tend to stay away from anything in that category because they're boring and usually sound self-absorbed. This was completely humbling and inspiring. This is also the first time that I write a review for a book. I just feel that this book is worth every cent and that so many lives will be changed by Bobby's words of simple wisdom. My little review or comments about this book will probably be passed over and never read. Yet, I just felt compelled to share how amazing, refreshing, inspiring, and humbling this book is. Each life moment shared is like getting a glimpse through a one of a kind window into this awesome guys life. Bobby, you are a rare gem of a guy and I am so grateful that you bared your soul for so many to see. Thank you! --an admirer from Austin

9. "Open Book" - Truly an open book of his daily struggles from a child in poverty, to his repeated bullying in school and his overwhelming lack of self confidence as an adult, which is gut wrenching seeing how independently successful he has made himself. As a fellow listener of the show, I couldn't be prouder of the gentleman he is, the person he has become and the generosity of his heart.

10. I Bobby Bones! - I loved getting to know more about Bobby. I have been a listener of The Bobby Bones Show for years. It was so cool to get a more detailed and behind the scenes look at the stories I know from being a listener. Way to go, Bobby! I can't wait for more when you decide you have another story to tell.

11. Great book - I have listened to Bobby since he first came on the air in Austin. While I have always been a country music fan, I listened to his show on KISS. I was excited when he switched to country music. I knew a lot of things about Bobby and his team from the show but I learned more and I loved reading his book. Hang in there Bobby, you are awesome!
2016-05-22
12. My friend Bobby - Wow. I feel like I have been sitting here chatting with my best friend. A lot of autobiographies are a listing of accomplishments, listing of facts and some bragging for good measure. Not so with Bobby. So many of us can relate to how he feels about himself and struggles to accept the fact that he is worthy of feeling good about himself and his accomplishments. Kudos, my friend. Great job with the book. I love you. (You don't have to say it back.) -a loyal listener
2016-05-22
13. Stunning - I've been a fan of the show for years, and when I heard that Bobby was writing a book I had to get it as soon as it came out. The book itself is so raw and honest - you can tell Bobby put all he had into writing about his personal experiences. I respect Bobby even more after reading. Thank you for sharing, Bones.

1. Just amazing - I literally just finished this book and all I can say is WOW. I’ve always been intrigued by Maureen and decided to download this book after scrolling for good reads. Her writing is very professional but it feels like you’re listening to one of your girlfriends. I couldn’t put it down. I would have never imagined her life happened like this. I’m still shocked because she doesn’t appear that way and never had to me. The book is very juicy and perfect for the nosey types because she holds nothing back. I’m ready to see Maureen back on tv or in a movie. Book her people!,,,,,,

2. Not earth shattering - This was a light and interesting read about one of the hottest babes on TV in the late 's. I felt like I was catching up on a long ago girlfriend, wondering what has happened to her, only to find out she had a hard life. She was someone on top of the world, how could anything go wrong? As you get into the book, you will see the roadblocks and land mines that all of us have faced, but to Marcia? No way. As a young guy in love with her, she had it all, or so it would seem. Humbling to read that real things and situations happen to fictional people. The book was informative, but not earth shattering. I do however feel as though I have found an old heartbeat from long ago. Loved her, still do.
2016-07-17
3. Cool Story - I loved Marcia Brady as a child. I was also curious about all the wild things I had heard about Maureen. I ended up reading a story about someone that is simply trying to find her way. She is very much an actress and like her life, pretty dramatic. Ultimately, she suffers many of the same problems adults have. The second guessing, regret, fear and worry, that life is passing us by. It's not Hemingway but I wasn't looking for that. An easy read that's well worth the money.
2013-05-29
4. A Fun Read - I enjoyed the book. As a Brady Bunch fan I also remember Marsha. Her story is fairly typical of child actors and actresses. She is one of the few that dealt with her problems and managed to raise a child and keep a marriage together in Hollywood. This is no small task.. I would also like to extend kudos to Maureen's husband. My hat is off to you sir. You are a star in this book.

1. I really enjoyed it - I had just read Duff and Steven's books, so following with this was natural. It was interesting to get each of their perspectives on the GNR era. We're pretty close in age and i live in the same area, so it was easy to remember and picture the places and the people he talks about. Slash didn't hold any punches and is very honest. The only thing that bugged me was the radio station mentioned a few times. It's KNAC, Not KNEC as printed. .. It's no longer here, but it deserved to be corrected. And his mention of the Gazzari's commercial was great, it was a staple on . KMET. I've quoted it over the decades. If you're a GNR fan and interested in what made it tick, any if he books by these guys are great.

2. Full experience ride through one of the internationally famous rock band of our lifetime - Read this book years ago, but if you like Guns N’ Roses or a Slash fan what a great book! felt like I was right there with them! Wild ride! ups and hard downs! Learning who the parents where and, who they were in the music and art world. Bmx racing...

3. Revisiting junior high - GNR reminds me so much of junior high. I took up guitar the same year that Appetite was released, and it's great to get inside stories on what was happening (I really wish Izzy would write one, too). Still some unanswered questions about how and why Use Your Illusion was put together the way it was and what the heck happened to the original mix that apparently sounded so much better. I distinctly remember being so irritated with that record and how it came out at the same time as so many legendary "grunge" records. Unfortunately that combo made it such an easy transition away from the new GNR.
2016-01-12
4. Good - I just finished Steven's book and I really liked it. He is such a big kid with a big heart! I really wanted to read Slash's side, so I purchased his book and I liked it ok. I feel Slash and the others in GnR could have handled the situation with Steven better but that's just my opinion. Slash is human just like the rest of us except he is in the public eye and that creates its own set of issues! I know I would never want cameras following me around during my years of hanging out in Hollywood in the ''s!!!
2013-05-30
5. A eye opener! SallyA - I love Slash, I also love the other guy's too!! I thought this was raw, real & at time's sad... There's a lot of detail's in this book, I'm a Gunner fan from day one, this book is give's you a inside view of one crazy ride, I read it in two day's, I'd recommend this book who has followed these unique men!
2013-02-17
6. Find your answers - I always wanted to know how is the life of a rockstar, in an all honest no BS way Slash leads you through all the questions you might have in your mind about the life of living rock and roll. Being a GNR fan pre "Spaghetti", as probably many people that buys this book , - I wanted to know, see, if there are answers in this book to what we always wanted to know, they are in there. Once you done with this book make sure to check out Duff's book as well, as it is brilliant.
2012-10-05
7. Amazing - I've read a lot of the books that musicians have put out over the last decade or so from several 's and 's era band members, and I have to say this is by far the best I have ever read, I could not put this book down, it's captivating and very raw. I like how real Slash is in this book and doesn't hide a thing. If you are a musician, Slash fan, or just a straight up Guns n Roses fan then this book is definitely worth reading, I have the utmost respect for Slash after reading this book and I was amazingly surprised and what his childhood was like as well as the GnR era of his life, definitely stars. Musicians will be able to relate to the problems that lead to the breakup of Guns n Roses, anyone who has ever been in a band for that matter.
2012-09-06
8. Entertaining bio - This book reveals some missing puzzle pieces in the G'n'R drama and offers some great insight regarding the less visible members. The name dropping is endless and reading about Slash's countless addictions is exhausting. I can't imagine how his brain and heart survived. It's a must-have.
2011-05-18
9. Slash - The stories about Slash's childhood as well as the formation and subsequent destruction of Guns 'N Roses were interesting. However, the excessive and gratuitous detail into his drug use was tiresome. We get it, he's and addict and makes questionable choices as a result. This book would have been a quarter of the size had the drugs been left out. While Eric Clapton shared many of the same vices, his autobiography had a sophistication to it that eclipsed this book by a long shot.
2010-09-28
10. Slash's inner game - This is from a guitarist and fan perspective. This book was very good at telling the story of Slash. For a fan you really learn a lot about his struggles with drugs and his band. The great thing is this is a no bs book. All the guitar stories about his influences we great too. I have always wondered how he became the rock god that he is. The iPad version is superior to Kindle's with the color photos and hi res text. Read the free sample too!

1. Want your light to shine? Read this book! - Jessica is open and extremely relatable to her audience. This book makes you look inward while getting a look at her life and choices that make her a force to be reckoned with. I’ll be forever grateful for her openness and sharing herself and life with us. Absolutely loved it!
2022-05-31
2. Worth the read! - The book really carries you through the author’s life. She is honest, vulnerable, and real. You’ll catch yourself going back a few paragraphs just to wrap your head around the fact that you’re reading about JESSICA SIMPSON and getting a (pretty big) peek into celebrity life, and then-as cliché as it sounds-continue reading and think, “wow, we’re really not that different.” And you empathize. And you thank her for sharing her story.
2021-11-30
3. This book is raw, honest and beautifully written. - I was a teenager during Jessica’s rise to fame. How humbling it is to read the real words to a story you were constantly subject to due to the media. Tabloids were everything then. Perception was truth. How wrong we were. I have read every celebrity book, most were lackluster, some plain painful, but not this one. This is not just a memoir peeking into the convoluted world of celebrity, something that none of us will know.. This is a book showing the harsh world that many girls experience. I commend Jessica for her ability to be completely open and transparent. This is her story and she writes it beautifully. Her honesty is astounding. It’s so much more than salacious drama.. This is about real life obstacles that we all have endured. She was honest with herself, which is the hardest thing to truly do. But it will help people like me and many others who self medicate and deflect.

4. Loved this book!! - The minute I began reading Jessica Simpson’s “Open book” I was drawn in immediately...I could relate so much to her stories, feelings and emotions and I almost feel like we have known each other before in either this life or a past one...thank you for giving me a reminder to keep my faith in God in all things! You are truly an inspiration!

5. Jessica Simpson’s open book - I loved the show Newlyweds and have followed Jessica’s career. I loved reading this book. You get to see behind the scenes. It’s almost like she’s bringing you into her life as a friend. I can relate to many of her struggles. I’m amazed by her depth and how much she has grown. I never ever do this but... I might have to read it again. It’s soooo good.
2020-05-02
6. Great read - I wasn’t a die hard fan of hers before reading, but I did and have enjoyed a few of her songs and watched Newlyweds. It was fascinating to hear her truths and learn not only her story but see the truths in my story as well. It always warmed my heart that through everything God is still the forefront of her life. So good, and definitely recommend!!

7. Honest - I am . I had to listen to her music again to remember her songs. That says something about my generation because I know my music and the greatest artists don’t require a search engine. What I learned from her story is that she is a very honest person, faithful to God, unfiltered and who acknowledged her struggles and unpacked them truthfully. Jessica is the bomb! She is a very talented and beautiful person. Impressed.

1. Prairie perspective - I once loved to hate Alison’s portrayal of Nellie Oleson and grew up watching all of Little House on the Prairie so I knew this would be an interesting take on Alison’s time on the show. Her no-holds-barred accounts of her time off-screen with family and cast members gave a well-rounded look into her life and I’m glad I read it.

2. Real, enlightening and amazing - This is exponentially better than Gilbert's "A Prairie Tale"...a long-time fan of LHOP from s reruns/syndication I hated Gilbert's book so I almost didn't purchase this one. Arngrim tells her story without the "woe-is-me-child-actor" factor. Her book seems genuine and honest and I loved the theme of how her fictional character helped shape her in positive ways and helped her accomplish major feats in activism. She gives great insider Hollywood gossip of the show without putting anyone down too much. But it isn't loaded with all LHOP things. Even if you aren't a fan of the show, the wisdom and humor will keep you turning pages.

3. Readable - If you can get past the arrogance coupled with the poor me victim putting brave face on it syndrome, then the book is good airport reading. Hopefully your plane won't get delayed because only the middle bit is of any interest. Do you know of over people who worked years with one another and never had one single dispute or upset? Allison does. According to her version they all got along so swimmingly well, just one big happy family. Such is not human nature but she is unwilling to tell the bad with the good and therefore provide her paying audience with a truthful account.
What we have here ladies and gents is her cotton candy version of the truth intended only as a vehicle to catapult her charities into the limelight.

1. Drugs, sex, cursing - repeatedly - I love Tyler's singing: he's on key and he never misses a beat. However, every other comment in the book is either f--- this or that, about the benefits of drugs, or a detailed sex word/ act. Literally every other comment. You can't ignore it because it is literally everywhere. My opinion of him as an author ... one star. That is because I still like his music.

2. Steven Tyler book. - I have been a huge fan of Aerosmith for over years. I love Steven Tyler's voice and his whole attitude on life is just hilarious. He's made his mistakes in like, like all of us have, but he owns it and goes o. Still believing I love and change and the future, however long one has. As I read his book, "Is the noise in my head bothering you?" I could imagine sitting in living room with him, talking about how Aerosmith made it. He writes just like he talks. Wide open! As a fan, it was fun to read and learn how my favorite songs were born. Thank you to all of the band members for great stories and the finding each other! A forever fan, Kim T. Pinehurst, N.C.

3. This Book Screams "READ ME!" - I have been a Aerosmith fan since the late 's. So this book was an obvious must read for myself. Upon reading it, I discovered it is a must read for everyone who knows who Steven Tyler is. It is a very well told story of his life as only a song writer can tell it. I enjoyed this book and you will too. Worth the money spent and the time it took to read it. Enjoy.

4. Explains it all... - Who doesn't love ST and Aerosmith, so I bought it to answer WHY? His book offers all the answers and some you just didn't want to know. Looking over the rock star glam and many addictions in his life, it was moving to read how much he loved his children and the mothers of them. If your a fan, you must give this book a chance......but with a warning...

5. Train keeps rollin - Steven Tyler writes exactly the way he talks....loved it! I so enjoyed learning what his influences were growing up, who influenced his music, what he listened to, about his boyhood, etc. Very refreshing to hear it all....wArts and all, from his point of view. I grew up loving Aerosmith, still do, and so appreciated learning avout them and him. Love him, love seeing him succeed...hope he continues to write and sharer insights into the world, etc. He's lived a Loy of life that most never will. Would be awesome to hear more musings, insights, inspirations and wisdoms inside and outside of the biz. Thank you!

6. What a roller coaster! - What a roller coaster of emotions did I feel reading this book. My heart broke for Steve at times, while other times my emphatic nature for the other cast of characters made my heart bleed. I could not put the book down as I always wanted to read where the drug use ended and Steve's life began. Nothing like a great book with a happy ending. God bless you in al of your future pursuits Steve! Thanks for sharing you past, present and future with the world....

7. Very disappointed. - I have been a HUGE fan of Aerosmith for MANY years. And I have all their CD's and have seen them countless times in concert. So to say I am a fan is an understatement. I have read 's of books. And this was by far one of the worst books I have ever read. I had to force myself to finish this. This was poorly written and poorly organized. Thank goodness Tyler redeemed himself while I was reading it when he sang on the finale of American Idol. He brought me back in with his sexy self!!!!

8. Good story, annoying writing - Underneath Tyler's often annoying writing style is a deep and fascinating story behind the frontman of one of Rock's iconic bands. I honestly thought of putting the book away several times with Tyler's annoyingly rhyming rants and his seemingly ADD storytelling style. However, push through that and you have a really fascinating and honest biography. I recommend

9. Amusing but not surprising - The foreword to "Does the Noise..." is, sorry to say, b-o-r-I-n-g -- Tyler's editors should have done what they're paid to. Nonetheless, once Steven finds his rhythm he tells great stories in a candid and forthright fashion. Any fan of rock 'n roll debauchery will appreciate this book. It is a not unfamiliar story of great success leading to great excess and Tyler provides a front row seat.

10. dreamed on - this book was a look into the real life of a rock star.... steven talarico stayed true to that title his entire life, through drugs and the music . he is truly magnificient!!! i hope he stays clean for the rest of his life and spends more time with his kids and grandchildren.... but i also hope he keeps singing with aerosmith till death do him part.....

11. If you grew up listening to Aerosmith then..... - Great book. Loved being inside the head of ST...even if it is a scary, twisted and tortured journey. I came away from the book feeling a tremendous amount of respect and admiration for what he and Aerosmith have given to the world of Rock n Roll. The music he has left behind for the generations is priceless. I would recommend doning a pair of headphones and listening to Aerosmith whilst reading this book....kinda puts the entire journey in musical perspective !!!

12. From the horses mouth.... - When I was or so an Aerosmith concert played on repeat all night long on channel or something like that. ever since I have been a fan of Steven Tyler. His quirky ways and outrageous stage presence awed me. Little did I know this crazy whirlwind showboating could be brought to writing. ADD story lines never read so well. I like that Tyler wrote nothing but the rambles of his mind, it made me feel like I was hearing his life from the horses mouth, not straight from the editors ballpoint.

13. Does the Noise in My Head Bother You. - While I have utmost respect for Steven Tyler's talents, experience and life, I must warn parents that this book is not for children nor teenagers. While the material matter is very real, and at times enlightening, it is not presented in an appropriate way for readers of any age. The material could have easily been presented without all the "F" words nor the details of Mr. Tyler's sexual experiences. Mr. Tyler should have respected the readers for their ability to use their imagination (as he is so proud to have). Mr. Tyler could have easily used his book as an instrument for teaching young people how to be an artist and entertainer while staying away from the sex and drugs. Instead he presented it in a way that educated them on how to not only get the drugs but also how to use the drugs. In the sections about his rehab he did a nice job of warning the readers about prescription drugs and what a "merry-go-round" the doctors can put you on. The editors of this book should consider a censored version of this book for Mr. Tyler's fans who don't need nor want to get the "nitty-gritty" details but would love to understand his experiences. Thank you Mr. Tyler for all your musical brilliance! Please don't go about the rest of your life thinking your choice of words are as brilliant.

14. Does the noise in my head bother you? - Steven Tyler's vocabulary is astounding!! His gift of rhyme is unmatched!! I've never been into music, but Sweet Emotion has been my favorite song forever! now I know who sings it. This book is an awesome read and I'll be quoting Steven for a while! I totally recommend this book!!!!

15. All Heart - I have no idea what it means to be a rock star but Steven Tyler gives me a grand picture. He tells us of the tender boy, then the wilder child - through the twisted, treacherous, derailed life of rockers living the stereotype that makes for great songs. He lived "for real" the things we live vicariously from a safe distance. I admit, I would never, as a -something small town Mom, have read this book without seeing his charm on American Idol. But as my eyes popped out my head, I just wanted to listen to the songs I never took notice of before. Who would thought I would become a Steven Tyler lover? Read about his home, his band, his wives and the Grand Finale, the love he has for what matters most, his family. I saw the Every Man. I cried over the words of his mom, I laughed at his slaying descriptions of his menagerie; the "zoo animals" in his year career. I think you should read this book.

16. Music in my head - Not sure what I expected , but it is actually sad that someone spent / of their life high. While he might have been the lead singer of aerosmith, it is a sad story. He has a brilliant mind, but life was all about him. Had to scan through it as the tales of sex and drugs were just too much to continuously read about

1. Excellent memoir - I picked up this book at an airport bookstore and I’m so glad I did. If you are looking for behind the scene stories about Breaking Bad you will get that and so much more. Bryan has had so many life adventures which will keep you entertained for hours. He can really tell a story. Please read.

2. Excellent, insightful, funny, sad, everything you want in a memoir of a great human. - Fantastic read into the actor’s life. His passion and purity in acting is inspiring and deeply motivating and encouraging for me, a blue collar Army veteran. His story is unique, imperfect, and eventful. He is a reminder to go after what you love, and be honest about it. BS when you need to (Mars bar commercial) but truly love what you do or make the sacrifice to get it. Don’t make decisions based off of what seems right to others, but only what seems right to your pure inner self. Loved it.

1. Not My Father’s Son - I was fascinated with reading this book. Cumming’s ability to match incidents with the most descriptive words was amazing. I felt his great pain and sadness for having missed having a father that would have loved and nurtured him as he deserved. As all children deserve. But he certainly didn’t let his upbringing keep him from being successful in his working life. His love for his mom & brother is palpable. I hope he is continuing to give his support to PTSD groups. I feel we are most happy in our lives when we serve others. And Alan has certainly shown us that is true.

2. I don’t read biographies of people younger than I. - I am an admirer of Mr. Cummings’ work and the title was intriguing. I found his story was well told and beautifully edited. Everyone thinks they have a story to tell but this one touched me deeply. Like his mom said it is hard to believe someone was just that evil. The second story about his search for his maternal grandfather was heart wrenching. In our new world we still do not acknowledge that war changes people, soldiers and citizens alike. As a creative person Cummings is subject to what I call the magic. It appears his grandfather was also a charismatic soul who touched others despite his own pain. Blood is thicker than water but each man was mentally ill but chose different ways to express their pain.

3. Not My Father's Son - I didn't dislike the book but I didn't really like it all that much. It was a bit too long and a lot more philosophical than it needed to be. Mr C states a lot of his thoughts more than once. He certainly had a miserable childhood and I agree that his father was mentally impaired. I give him a lot of credit for putting his life together and being such a success. An ok read if you like reading about celebrities.

4. Two Days Spent - I have emotionally and spiritually spent the last two days with our dear Alan Cumming. I found it most intriguing and satisfying to both read the memoir and watch the showing of his episode of “Who Do You Think You Are?” in measured spurts of either and both. Alan (I’ve spent two days with him, so I feel free with the casual moniker) has written so honestly and transparently of his childhood abuse and subsequent struggles that it reads like a heart-wrenching novel—evoking both laughter and tears as all good reads should. The added suspense and just knock-you-back-ness of the Tommy Darling story is really an amazing plot. I thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyed his writing style and his story. Thx, Alan :)

5. Closure - While I have always admired Alan Cumming in movies, I never saw him as another person. He was an object I admired. Having read his memoir, he has reminded me that we are all people, with many stories to our being. I am incredibly thankful to read his story from his fingers but I'm indebted for the reminder that we all have a corner of the world we are responsible for. We do our best to survive it and come out better people for it but to share that knowledge and make your corner a better place for others is deserving of a word that isn't made up yet. Simply put, thank you, Alan.

6. Joyful - Mr. Cumming confronts the abuse of his father in an honest, powerful way, and embraces joy more fully. I read this in one sitting, absolutely could not wait to read each new revelation on his journey to also find out the truth of his late grandfather. Forgiving his father did not mean he condoned his father's actions or excused them, but forgiveness brings healing to the one who forgives.

7. Incredible story, incredible life. - Thank you for this poignant book. Alan is an amazing man who has given us all insight to the suffering with his father. I grew up in a family of fourteen children. My father provided for us but never said he loved me or at least I don't remember him saying it to me. We grew estranged as the years went by so I have an idea of what Alan went thru. He is a better man than he father ever was because even after all that he went thru he forgave him. I enjoyed learning that his mother was a good wife and mother, much like my mother was. I love watching him act and I try to catch anything that he is in. I couldn't put the book down. It was a story I wanted to continue reading until the end. Thank You Alan.

9. Amazingly Beautiful Transformation! - What an amazing transformation! What amazing strength and fortitude Mr. Cumming has displayed. To be such an abused and traumatized child, to see him overcome and beat back all the demons that follow you through life due to an abusive, tormenting father........what a truly admirable man. This book was so well written I couldn't put it down! I have seen another side to an actor and dancer that I have loved watching since Broadway ....... WOW!! Thank you for sharing your story and showing that a person can overcome such obstacles and come out the other side a real winner indeed. Well done, Mr Cumming, truly and amazingly well done.

1. John Lennon "the life" - A great insight into the lives of those who were a part of John Lennon's. Especially Sean's perspective on his relationship albeit a short one, but it gave me an understanding as to what he had lost from John's tragic death. I only would wish more was said about how Yoko was doing now. Still and always supported her from the time I was old enough to understand what was going on.

2. Somebody get this guy a halfway decent copy editor! - A good read, generally, informative and fun. If you like the Beatles, or popcorn reading, this is for you. Don't expect literature, however. At one point, the author describes Lennon thus: “his eyes take on a stony blankness, like some marble knight lying with folded hands for eternity in the hushed transept of a cathedral.” (Cringe) Really? No one seems to have caught purple patches like this -- there are several -- or sophomoric phrases such as when he speaks of George Martin turning the "precious ore" of the Beatles' first draughts into "diamonds." Oof. If you don't mind writing on a middle school level, this book may entertain you. If you demand good prose, pass it by...

3. Fantastic but Infuriating- no photos????!!!!!???? - This book was so engaging and well written. Since when is it not possible to put photos in an e-book? Photos are a critical part of enjoying a contemporary biography. I feel cheated. Why should my experience reading it be lessened by the inability or unwillingness of the publisher to include photos?

4. John Lennon: The Life - As familiar as I thought I was with the Beatles and John, having grown up a dedicated fan and visiting the Imagine Mosaic for his memorial frequently, I barely knew the man. He wasn't perfect, but he was brilliant. I gasped at the description of December , remembering the pain I felt years ago.

5. Perfectly balanced - This book, in my opinion after reading it twice (for fun), is one of the better bio's of John Lennon. After reading some bios of John Lennon, this one is the most accurate, in that it dosen't have excessive flaws (titles of songs were spelled correctly, dates were the most accurate). My favorite quality of the book is Norman's fairness. While Norman gives the reader a sense of empathy of Lennon's life and why he made his choices, he isn't afraid to point out Lennon's flaws. My favorite is how he points out minor hypocrisies in Lennon's life. For example, Norman shares how when a one of Lennon's friends pointed out the contradiction in John's song Imagine, to John's lifestyle, Lennon responded by saying that it was only a song and nothing else. I also highly recommend Norman's other book "Shout" to any serious Beatle fan.

6. Same Story, not necessarily a bad thing either. - Nothing new, but still a great read to remember the facts behind Lennon's life. Since he died tragically his life has been transformed into something of legend, so this fact driven biography is refreshing for those who, either have learned about Lennon, or those who wish to begin. A great book that has been placed on my biography/ memoir shelf in my study, right next to John Adams by David McCullough.
