1. Amazing - This book explains what it is like to be a hunter and to celebrate the outdoors with friends and family. As a outdoorsman and avid hunter myself this book reminds me of my childhood and hunting with my dad and lessons I learned while doing so. A great read and will more than likely read again. I recommend this book to anyone as a hunter or not it will show you what the outdoors and family are all about.

2. Truth about hunters everywhere - This was a great read... It excites the hunter within and it is always great to see the excitement hunting brings to others. Michael is a down home southern boy and is true to himself in every way possible. I encourage other hunters and non-hunters to take the time to read this great book. As his dad did to him, take your kids into the great outdoors and introduce them to the great sport of hunting. Teach a kid to fish or hunt and they will feed themselves forever. Get outdoors! There is a lifetime of memories to make.... Congrats Michael... Keep laying the smack down to them.....

1. Jeff Carmichael - Being a fly fisherman and a serious one...this book captured so many feelings and thoughts that I have had through the years. Gierach really has an odd and distinctive way of communicating the true beauty of casting a line. If you can't read and love this book...maybe you need a red can of Hills Bros. coffee full of red worms?

1. Fantastic - Written at the level a beginner will easily understand and appreciate, but the content takes the reader past a beginner level. When I was done reading the book, and had done a few of the practice exercises that can be done from home, I was very comfortable with my knowledge-base. This book gave me what I needed to go out and let practice take me to new levels of shooting expertise. I have a much better understanding of what I should be paying attention to and practicing. Days at the range are not as much trial and error guessing as they once were. I enjoy much greater success on the range now that I have this information in my head. I was a little reluctant to spend that kind of money on a book I couldn't really sample well, but I am so glad I did.

1. Incredible - I’m from the western part of Colorado and I’ve been around hunting all my life and never thought much of the activity. Since watching Meat Eater on Netflix I have been absolutely fascinated with the history and the question and answers that come with hunting. Steve Rinella is amazing at fueling my understanding and desire to know more. This book is nothing less and even more than what I expected from him. A fantastic guy and a fantastic book. Even if you don’t enjoy the concept of hunting of have some kind of distain for the sport and those who partake, read this book. Not to change you mind but to grow in knowledge and understanding of the hunters mind and the reason conservationist like Steve Rinella do what they do. And if you’re a hunter and haven’t bought this book yet, what are you doing?! It’s Fantastic!

2. Insightful and well done. - I keep up with Steven Rinella in his podcasts and Meateater shows, but this was the first book of his that I’ve read aside from the cookbook. His gift for story telling and ability to convey the philosophical struggles of the modern hunter make this a fun and rewarding read.

3. Fantastic Read for ANYONE! - I’m no literary critic or journalism major, but I am an avid outdoorsman. As a matter of fact, I’m blessed enough to be writing this review from the beautiful rolling hills of central Mississippi on my hunting property. (Sitting in my camper listening to the wind buffeting and swirling while wearing a brimmed beanie.) Believe it or not, several months ago, a friend who has never taken an animal as his prey contacted me and told me I had to watch Meateater on Netflix. I obliged and was instantly hooked. To watch an outdoorsman “celebrity” who actually puts out a product that allows the outdoors to be the star is genuinely refreshing. After watching all I could I had to find more. I couldn’t put the book down. In a way, the words describing the events seemed more vivid than watching the show in HD. I finished the book some time ago and do apologize for just now getting to the review. I’ve since subscribed to the Meateater podcast and have, on many occasions, been scolded by friends and family to take the earbuds out and pay attention to my immediate surroundings. Tangent:
I was able to harvest my first legitimate whitetail with a bow opening day this season. After cleaning the heart and wrapping it in in caul fat, I roasted it to a beautiful dark brown and relished as I dined on the flesh as well as the majesty. You’ve added flavor and depth to my outdoor experiences, and for that I am grateful. Rather than it being all about the kill, you show the world that the true outdoorsman does it for the pursuit, harvest, care and consumption. Your intelligent discussion and delivery on ALL topics involving the outdoors, including engaging criticism and naysayers, is what we need more of as an outdoor community. Please continue to explore the last wild places on the planet and let us know what they look like, feel like and taste like. There is no one doing it better.

4. Every boy's dream! - At some point growing up as boy we all wonder what it would be like to live off the land. All the trips he has taken have all been fantasies of young boys growing up. Not being able to take those trips or live that way, this took me right back to my childhood pretending I was along for the trips. Great read

1. Good but unorganized - This is a very informative book, when you find a page with information. It repeats pages with only pictures many time. The book is pages long but of that only approximately of these pages have useful information or any information at all. It's worth $. but being that it had many useless pages is a bit frustrating to say the least.

1. Great Read. - Love the outdoors and grew up hunting and fishing in northern Idaho. Lots of useful information in here for the novice tramper looking to ‘smooth it’ out there. Only thing I have to say is some more drawn illustrations of the material spoken about here would help. Still, great book by a seasoned and expert frontiersman.

1. Essential Reading - Over the years I've compiled lots of info on hammocks & camping on my desktop computer that I don't want to eat up a lot of space on my iPod Touch or iPad. This book consolidates most that info and adds illustrations (what a clever idea). And now I can have access to this info on my mobile devices whether on the trail, car camping with the grand kids or teaching a Scout troop. This is a "must have" book in print format and an essential tool in the digital format.

2. Well done - As a newbie to hanging I decided to test the waters and purchase this ebook. I have to agree it was a fast read and done well. It is chock full of the duh I knew that and a very good review of trail and camping / hanging edict. That said I will always have this handy as a reference and the illustrations are truly worth a thousand words Happy hanging

3. Great book! - Could not put this down! I have been a partial hanger for a few years now and still learned some new tricks. The illustrations are great and there are several options presented on how to "hang" all throughout the book, regardless of knowledge, financial resources, or availability of products in your area!

1. Great Book! - I’ve grown to be fascinated reading and watching documentaries on mountain climbing and tragedies on K, Everest, etc. I don’t know how anyone can give this book a bad review. It’s been one of my favorite so far. Ed is not cocky. He’s successful and knows the subject and it makes it interesting. Good stuff Ed!

2. K - Great read, couldn't put it down. My heart goes out to those that didn't make it, and to their families. I have respect for anyone that tries such things (climbing anything!), but those that make it, and especially those that save others have something beyond my inherent respect for all climbers. Great self arrest on K with Scott, Ed! That is truly the stuff of legend. Jeff PS - at the age of , I still want Rainier and Denali. Alas, Denali is probably beyond my reach at this age.

1. A good starting point. - Like most “survival” books, this one seems to miss the most important point of survival situations: avoid activity that might put you in a survival situation! That being said, many people exceed their limitations while hiking, camping, or hunting. This book gives sound, basic advice on how to attempt to deal with unexpected events during such activities. While most of the advice is common sense, some of the suggested solutions would require training, practice, and a bit of luck to be successful, and others deal with rather far fetched survival possibilities. Overall The Ultimate Survival Manual does not quite live up the hyperbole of its title, but is an easy and reaonably thorough, if not quite comprehensive primer on getting yourself out of trouble when things go bad.

1. Why Climb? - Every person who has climbed a mountain, especially if there was some risk in doing so has been asked, "Why?". Many a mountaineer cannot answer, at least in a way the questioner might understand. "The Will to Climb" contains many terrifying accounts of amazing climbers blazing new and perilous routes on the most dangerous and most difficult to climb mountains in the world. These accounts alone, well written in a riviting style, are reason enough to read this book. But beyond this, Viesturs attemps to explain the "why." He does so by incorporating the writings of many of the trail-blazing mountaineers, most known to him personally. Climbing is often felt as a personal emotional experience so the "why" often differs with each mountaineer. There are many "whys" but there are also many common threads. Reading this book will bring you to a better understanding of human nature and why some will risk everything to summit a dangerous and daunting mountain. This is a book that anyone who has ever climbed or thought about doing so will immensely enjoy. It's also an especially good book for anyone, and that's most of us, who finds vicarous pleasure in reading great adventure. "The Will to Climb" is a great read as told by one of America's most accomplished and outstanding mountaineers. There is action along with amazing insight on every page.

1. Worth the Wait - I’ve waiting for this book to be released for some time. I’m happy to say it was worth the wait. The illustrations are excellent and I really enjoyed Daniel’s writing style. If you were to buy only one book about Tenkara fly fishing this book is a great choice. If you’re worried that this book is just a glamorous Tenkara USA catalog fear not. Even though this book was written by the founder of Tenkara USA, there aren’t a lot of product placement shots. In some cases, some products are flipped face down to obscure the Tenkara USA logo. This book focuses much more on technique than product. Side note: there’s a surprising amount of Tenkara USA trivia contained in the book. Example: I’ve always wondered why Daniel uses the lower case “t" when spelling out “tenkara”. You can an explanation of that in the book. One nitpick: I do wish the QR code “links” were hyperlinks the videos. I’m hoping that’s coming in a future update. Bottom line: If you’re evenly slightly interested in Tenkara this book is definitely worth the price of admission.
