1. Not a book - This is a collection of magazine articles, which in and of itself doesn’t negate it...it’s just that there aren’t enough of the, to qualify as a book. Whisked through this in a couple of nights and was astounded that they considered this enough to sell as a book. Don’t get wrong, JK is an an amazing writer.

1. Strikingly well-written... - I was quite taken by the fact that mountain-climber could be such an excellent writer...I just didn't expect it! I became solidly immersed in this horrific account of the author's harrowing ascent in the Pervuian Andes. His recounting of the torturous trip grabbed me from the start and propelled me through the book in two nights! Truly a fascinating read.

1. Buried In The Sky - The book ended too soon. I was left wanting more as the two main characters Chhiring and Pasang were poised to climb again following their harrowing experience on K. I've read a few books on Everest and K and I must admit I enjoyed the Sherpa perspective, their sense of responsibility, ownership and expectation from a group of people seemingly so easily dismissed and overlooked as simply porters or guides. Chhiring's sense of obligation to his family and Pasang's deep remorse described the full range of life's emotion.

1. Left for Dead - Really enjoyed this book until the author decided to insert his personal political views - and not in a subtle manner! - into the details of his amazing journey. Just ruined it for me. I’ve experienced this before, as have others who have had to put a book down for this same reason. So frustrating and what a waste of money!

2. Left to Die, but New Life to come - What an excellent book this is! Five Stars is certainly not enough!
Dr. Weathers, Peach, Meg, and Beck II have taken the risk to open their hearts and lives for all to see. The honesty is amazing and extremely moving - I found myself in tears many times as I "felt" the pain being shared, especially the emotional pain of an unloved wife. While Beck "loved" her, he for so many years wasn't Loving her, and no wonder, as he was preoccupied with learning how to escape from his Kingdom of Self. It took almost perishing on Everest, and intervention (I believe) from his Creator, who had, and still has, a plan for his life to redeem him to true humanity, teach him what is truly important, and help him find Truth. Thank you, Beck Weathers and all who contributed to this work - there are great lessons in it for all of us!!! --Steve Jobe, Shady Shores, TX

3. Powerfully Inspiring - I never heard of Beck Weathers until the movie Everest, was released. Of course I heard about the tragedy, but I never truly understood what it entailed. Releasing this book and opening up his life to the world by admitting he suffered from depression, was very brave! This is a topic people still have difficulty talking about, and will never admit having because of fear of losing their jobs or friends. Terrible social stigma attached. Beck's story reminds me of the movie, "It's a Wonderful Life."

4. Human & Self Deprecating In the Best Way - This book is so good! It's a page turner. Just read it. Human and self deprecating, Beck tells his story. It's impossible to read a story about mountain climbing that isn't exciting. The whole ordeal is dramatic, whether or not it is supposed to be, just due to the sheer extreme nature of the task. On top of the mountaineering, the psychology behind the mountaineering is very interesting. I really enjoyed his story.

5. Must Read to Comp, eye The Story - I read Into Thin Air written by Jon Krakauer...it was riveting. But the book left me wanting more, especially more about Beck Weathers. This incredible mountaineer returns from the brink of death off Everest...there is no way I wouldn't find out more about this man. Google to the rescue...two minutes later I downloaded Left For Dead by Beck Weathers. Beck takes us on a journey to understand why he climbed mountains, why he took chances. But more than that, he reminds us all that we can change, we can be inspired at unlikely times and places. He reminds us what is important in life...family and friends that so many of us take for granted and assume they will always be there. Beck pays a high price for this lesson. But in telling his story, might we learn from him so that our journey to become a kinder, better, caring person comes at a much lower price...just the cost of his book. Thanks Beck for being so strong in every way possible, physically, mentally and spiritually. Thanks for having the strength to tell us your story. It doesn't matter if you prefer fiction or nonfiction, this is a book everyone should read. It definitely must be read if you have read Into Thin Air.

1. Learned the basis of everything mountaineering I know from this book! - These days mountaineering and climbing is more of a sport than an adventure of past generations. When I first picked up a copy of this book years ago it was the most complete resource for climbing out there. It’s still the best. If you’re looking to venture into the mountains for some adventure, do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of this book! It’s constantly being updated with the latest content. But the basics are still thoroughly explained. Move beyond climbing gyms and venture outside in ways you’ve never imagined.

1. Excellent! - Wilkinson has written an excellent book that tries to unravel what happened on K in August . He masterfully weaves in the saga of not only the climbers themselves, but their families and support teams back home. He also sought out and interviewed the Sherpas who of course played a key role in the events. The result is a page turner, and engagingly written narrative of the story. I think he's come as close as any to figuring out what really happened that day and the next. Highly recommended by this armchair mountaineer.

2. An exhaustive investigation into the tragedy on K - A fine work, this book is destined to become a classic. The prologue leaves you breathless. An in-depth look at human character in the face of overwhelming odds. As is usually the case, the true heroes are the unspoken, unrecognized ones. A great read.

1. Beautiful tragedy - The book immerses you into the life of an ultra rich adventure seeker and the persons and circumstances which led to the K expedition in . It paints a contrast between an ultra-rich and comfortable lifestyle and the desire to explore the unknown, to the environmental extremes. Dudley Wolfe lived an incredible life and this book is worth every minute.

2. thumbs up from this armchair mountaineer - Another excellent book from Jennifer Jordan. The book begins with the author's discovery of Wolfe's remains on K in and from this dramatic scene, takes us into the story of the last man on the mountain. She not only gives us an exciting narrative of the fateful climb in , but extensive backstory on Wolfe and the other major players. We come to know why he went to the mountain, and it is as fitting a tribute as any to him. He truly was the last man on the mountain. Extensively researched from personal papers, letters and archives. Great photographs from the expedition illustrate the book. Useful map detailing locations of camps (bookmark this). All in all an exciting read and a poignant tribute to Wolfe and all those lost in the mountains.

1. High marks - The iBook format is ideal for these excellent accounts from the time before commercialization and over-use cheapened the achievement of climbing the world's highest peak. The book also serves to remind us that the mountains, as magnificent as ever, are nothing less than they have always been. This is the real stuff, about real climbing. The photos are terrific, especially on the iPad, and more abundant that any printed book can contain; the writing is as clear and direct as a high-altitude wind. Highly recommended.

1. Disorganized mess - This book has zero direction. I bought it thinking it would be about an expedition on the north side of Everest in . This book has about sub plots and sub sub plots. It starts and stops about times. I’ve read most of the books out there on this topic and this was by far the worst not only on this topic but also the worst book I’ve ever read. Don’t wast your money.

2. Poorly written - I like the story that was told in the book which is slightly different from other Everest-related books out there. However, I found the book was poorly structured and poorly written. It seems to me that the author felt bitter toward his own Everest climb experience and wrote the book hastily while his emotion was still high without re-reading or proofing before published it. There are other poorly written mountaineering books out there but one would expect a journalist to write better than mountaineers.
