1. Some huge gaps in the read. - First off, the real story behind the book is amazing. Le Mans of the years prior to the big event showed a great insight to what led Ford to fight Ferrari. The big thing that I disliked was that when reading about Daytona ’, it gets to about hours into the event, then skips straight to the finish and a quick recap of the finishing order. Pros: Great story Lots of quotes from real people inside and outside the Ford’s and Ferrari’s close circle Great split up of content from one chapter on one side of the Atlantic and the next chapter on the other side. Great prologue Great epilogue Cons: - Choppy story that jumps around - Can be confusing with all the different dates in the story marking significant historical events (a lot were out of order).

2. Not what I expected - As a NC native and NASCAR fan I’ve followed Jr from the start. I’ve read his first book, nearly met him a few times when I had Hot Passes, and can remember most of the racing incidents described in the book. I remember thinking in his final years he was gonna hang it up because performance seemed to elude him. What I took away from this book was that Dale is as true a racer that has ever lived, I had no idea what was really happening as did no one else, and how large of an impact he will undoubtedly have on racing as the history books are read years from now. Dale’s contribution to the sport continues to grow much more than any trophy or stat could ever measure. I feel like I know him, if I could ever meet him I’d tell him how much I’ve enjoyed watching his story over two decades. Thanks Dale!

3. Thank you. - When friends and family hear me use the word concussion, I feel like they don’t understand. The truth is they don’t. I have suffered treated concussions. The two that changed my life were handled at the UPMC Sports Center. The first coming from go-kart racing that would take everything a year old was doing and bring it to a dramatic stop. And the fourth one during a game of tag football at school that left me medically unclear to do anything for over eleven months at years old. I put a lot of symptoms in the concussion bin in the last years and just figured that this was my life. Doctors told me I would never race again when I was , and at I decided that I didn’t feel healthy enough to do anything that would take any chances to re-injure myself. My life for the past years has been very low key. I still suffer a lot of the symptoms that I didn’t know how to explain to anybody until now. Thank you Dale. You have been my hero since I can remember and reading this book taught me that it’s time to grow up and get over my pride and get help. Your saving my life.

1. Looses its fizz until the end picks you up - Book starts off great but get a bit boring at times. A lot of chapters are dedicated to Bens army career, which was something I did not know about him but you can see it’s a foundation which he holds quite dearly. What disappointed me was I expected more of the insights of being the stig on top gear. More behind the scenes of how the episodes were created.

While in the shotgun seat I share the excitement and “crap in pants”affect when the cops were pulling up. Thank you Alex Roy sharing your experiences. I jealous I never thought of doing that. 2. Great Adventure Story - I will never have the money or guts to take on something as Herculean as racing against time, the authorities, and Mother Nature. Luckily Alex shares his amazing story and I can live vicariously through his book. The parties, pranks, and friends made along the way make me wish I could have experienced it first hand.

3. Limitless - A great book for the motorhead, grease monkey, or wrench turner more at home under a car or in one, than on the couch. A wonderful story for those who think our highway system could and should be more than it is. Herr Roy writes of chasing a ghost in pursuit of the ultimate driver and finding, in himself, a person of more understanding.

4. The Driver - Fantastic, well written, first person view of a feat anyone who enjoys the rush of performance driving would enjoy. Easily digested in one sitting, but best taken via a few nights where one's mind can wander into the world so few of us will ever know. If you've ever been a teenager with a hot car and dad's gas card, or an adult with a hall pass, good friends, and an open road ahead of you, this book is both relevant and eye-opening. Kudos, Alex. You did well. You found what you were looking for, which is something many of us still seek.

1. Awesome - I could not put this book down. I must admit I was not a Waltrip fan when he raced but loved Dale. Even to this day Dale is very much missed. Since Dale's death, NASCAR has and never will be the same. There will never be another Dale Earnhardt. This book really is an awesome story about Darrell and Dale. I am sure I will read it again and again!

A Better Understanding of The South Through Stock Cars - Remarkably researched, I came to understand more about the South - why folks are the way they are and how they came to be that way - going back HUNDREDS of years by reading this book. Written by a non-racer for non-racers, the book is not cluttered with excessive racing minutiae. An excellent study of the key early players, but I got a bit bogged down in the details of who won which races. Required reading for dyed in the wool NASCAR fans. Fire up the grill, pour yourself a jar of moonshine and git readin'!
