1. Brilliant! - Moneyball is one of the most compelling stories in modern sports. The Oakland A's with their meager payroll represent a true David vs. Goliath tale. Michael Lewis exposes the backstories and heartbreaks of the team dubbed most appropriately as the "island of misfit toys." A reader cannot help but genuinely care about the subjects of this book and root for their continued success. Critics of Billy Beane and saber metrics management only serve to make themselves look foolish. Read this book today. You won't regret it.

2. One of the greatest, - Baseball books of all time. It is enjoyable to read from cover to cover and tells a great story. Some of the story may be lose if one does not recognize the names it brings up throughout the book but the ones that are important to the story are always developed and portrayed beautifully.

1. Trading Bases, A Story About Wall Street, Gambling, and Baseball - Easily one of the most surprisingly charming books I've ever read written by an ex-Wall Street trader. I never would have bought without a friend's urging. It's very funny and at the same time captures a love of baseball all wrapped in a story about using data on Wall Street and in baseball to make money. Don't be fooled by the crass subjects -- this is a very entertaining book written by someone on Wall Street I think I'd actually enjoy drinking beers and watching sports with.

1. Great Book - It tells the story of the ups and downs of most prizefighters. Tyson loved Jack Dempsey and in many ways there’re lives appear very similar. The most ruthless, vicious, and brutal champions of all time, only to later allow their true character and humility to take the place of the warrior whom had lived out his necessity.

1. Wasted my money - I understand Josh is human and has been battling addiction for many years. I hope someday he will find peace, and stay clean and sober. But, I think this book was written too soon in his recovery. The audiobook is very good, and the message is inspirational. But, it’s now only a good story. I wish him the best as he continues his journey in recovery.

2. Great message - One night I sat in a small room at work when the home run derby came on. I had never watched and haven't watched one since. But that night I remember calling everyone I knew to watch Josh Hamilton crush ball after ball. Fast forward to July . I was getting a hair cut and talking about baseball to my female barber. I began talking about watching that derby. She told me I have to read this book, beyond belief. Little did she know, I began my own road through addiction of prescription opioids around and finished a rehab in . I have told people several times that I no longer believe in coincidences. I guess Josh and I have that in common. As well as our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

3. Touching story - Josh is so inspiring. He really is an incredible ball player with loads of talent but a horrible drug & alcohol addiction that he encountered after high school. It's really amazing how he got out of his addiction and chased his dream of being a professional ball player. This book made me love watching Josh more, because he had gone through so much. A really touching story that hopefully has passed for good.

4. Beyond Belief - Incredible and moving! What a Journey he takes you on. You feel his pain as he struggles to find meaning in his life and freedom from the shackles of his addiction. What resulted was a peace and calm he could not describe. How was he to know that God had a bigger plan for his life? Ultimately, a new calling in life Josh believes was gifted to him from his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I could not put the book down, Truly amazing!

5. Amazing - I purchased this book after hitting rock bottom in my own life. Never a reader, nor a man of Faith...but definitely a fan of Josh Hamilton and the Texas Rangers. Less than two weeks later...I have found some guidance from a higher power. A feeling I've never had before and hope that will help guide me for the rest of my life...to be a Good Father, Husband...and most of all, a good ME. Thank you for sharing, inspiring, and impacting lives.

6. The title of the book says it all. - I've read a lot of books about recovering drug addicts and their road to recovery, but this one hit home. I myself don't have a substance problem, but I found myself relating to different scenarios throughout this book and could relate them to different aspects of my life. I recommend this book to anyone seeking guidance in their life. I promise you this will give you a different kind of respect for those trying to straighten up their lives whether they are having a substance abuse problem or any kind of addiction they are trying to recover from. / stars all day baby!! Btw GO RAYS!!!!

7. The most inspiring individual on the planet - Josh Hamilton is a true hero. I have always liked josh as a baseball player and as an individual and had heard about his struggles. 1. Most Important Book Since Moneyball - Jeff Passan first told me about this book over three years ago. My first thought? Why would anyone want to read about the arm? Then it happened, and happened again, and again. The ucl's of MLB pitchers everywhere were blowing out. The Braves lost Kris Medlen and Brandon Beachey (twice). It was frustrating. I had so many questions. Why? Why so much? What can teams do to protect pitchers? Jeff Passan delivers a book that is thought out, researched, and human. He tries to answer all of the questions. Some just don't have answers. Following the elbows of Dan Hudson and Todd Coffey give this book the human element it needs. Information from doctors, scouts, coaches, players and parents give us a perspective from all sides of the epidemic. Passan didn't just deliver a good book. He delivered the most important book about baseball since Moneyball. It's a five star must read for any baseball fan or parent of a you get pitcher.

1. Lefty.... - What a beautiful book. I'm a lifelong Yankee fan and I recommend this to all Yankee fans, and also all baseball fans. The way this man treated strangers was the same way you treat friends. I think this book should be read by all players of today. A wonderful man. Thank you Miss Gomez for writing this book.

1. Where Nobody Knows Your Name - I have always enjoyed Mr. Feinstein's in depth writing, and detail he puts into all of his work. This one is no exception, as it grabs the reader right with the first few pages, and immerses you into the world of triple A baseball, where nobody knows your name. It is a wonderful journey and you immediately identify with the nine main characters he profiles, as they could be any one of us. Whether it be baseball, golf, football, or any other sport, or even getting to the top of ones chosen career, we all are trying to get to the major league. Thanks for giving us such a great look into life and struggles in this great sport.

1. All J Pearlmans books - Ive read all of jeff perlmans books and so far i would consider this one my favorite. He knows how to grip you and keep the stories interesting with his dialogue. I played for danny heep in college and the stories in the book line up with how he really is. I highly recommend. I have more book to read of jeffs. I believe its called sweetness

2. Interesting story, sporadic storytelling - I'll admit I like the book, but really feel it could have been written better. The premise and subject matter are interesting enough, but delivered in a very unorganized and clumsy way. There are often times tangents to the story that either don't belong or make sense in the area presented. worth the read if you're interested in the storyline.

1. Save your money and read Wikipedia - This is a very disappointing read. Every chapter was clearly written separately as there is frequent and repetitive introduction at the start of every chapter. Moreover, the book constantly refers to going the extra mile, making special moves, the extra % we are ostensibly learning about, but then never details just what that is. You could read the Wikipedia article about the season and learn just as much, or maybe more.

2. The story of sports greatest underdogs - Loved the book. It's geared toward the true baseball fan who has been wondering what goes on in the coveted front offices of the major leagues. Keri helps you to understand the unbelievable difficulty it is to overcome insurmountable odds. Great sports centered book.

1. Great book - A backstage pass to history, and must read for any sports fan. The players are brought to life. You get to step into the room with guys like Rizzo and Ross, Bryant and Baez, Joe Maddon, Hoyer, and Epstein as the Cubs win the biggest World Series in baseball history. This book is an epic among its peers.

1. Great insight into an amazing story - As a lifelong Astros fan, the season was a thill ride that I never imagined could happen after such a long period of atrocious baseball and Ben Reiter captured it beautifully. I’ll never forget the SI cover with George Springer and the accompanying story. Like every other Astros fan, I was hopeful but skeptical of the “process” after so many terrible seasons. Kudos to Reiter for digging into the human side of the analytics because they were so key to the chemistry that made the Astros clubhouse so special. It was way beyond the totally quantifiable metrics that have been measured since the dawn of the Moneyball era. This is a Cinderella story that was no fluke, but one that seems sustainable with a commitment to the “process”. For any Astros fan (or avid baseball fan for that matter), this is a must read in order truly understand how the Astros captured the championship over three of baseball’s most icon franchises. Well done, Ben Reiter. Paul Frazier, Houston, Texas

1. Not that insightful - While this book was billed as an insiders look into the last - years of Dodger baseball, I can objectively say there wasn't as much "wow I never knew that" information as others have noted. If you are a Dodgers fan this book is a nice read but don't buy this book thinking it's filled with salacious tales of team conflict.
2015-08-15
2. Interesting Read on Team Dynamics - Good read for Dodger fans and anyone interested in gaining insight into baseball team locker room dynamics. Although I know a few MLB players personally, none of them play for high-profile teams like the Dodgers. It gives the average fan some unique perspective on player interactions, especially given the variety of personalities and egos of Dodger players. If every team had a book like this written about them, it would be intersting to see how they compare to the Dodgers and one another. We could also potentially get some more insight into how the balance between star power and team chemistry relates to success at the major league level.

3. Owner - Interesting read but for several inaccurate statements. I was with mark and stan at the first meeting with Magic Johnson. Todd was not present. I was also present in Denver at the owners meetings when the trade with Boston was made. Additionally I designed, procured and presented Marianno with his fishing rod at his retirement ceremony. While I'm at, Peter guber is also an owner and an important part of this organization. I'm not too impressed with the authors facts and opinions on several other issues but it is baseball and you can make a lot of money batting .

1. Great story, perfect writing - On one level, this book is about a pennant race in , when baseball was the national pasttime and fans used their imaginations to “see” games from the newspaper accounts or radio broadcasts. On another level, it’s the story of Ted Williams and Joe DiMaggio during that season — Williams in full bloom, and DiMaggio near the end of his career. Halberstam tells the story with his wonderful style, a combination of reportorial economy and a fan’s compassion. I read somewhere that Halberstam said he wrote some popular books that paid the bills, and some books that allowed him to explore topics he loved. For me, this book is the best of both.
