1. Foolish book points out the obvious with dubious honesty - Author is a self-centered, happy-go-lucky preacher who struggles to fulfill his basic responsibilities to his loved ones and spends too much money on self-help and personal growth materials. In this book, he will tell you about self-evident truths about the importance of a good attitude, paying attention to your finances, and empathizing with other people. Author also wants you to have faith in a God and donate money. This book did not describe to me anything that I was not already doing or did not already know. I strongly recommend against purchasing this book.

2. Make today count - This book can be life-changing if you apply the principles. However; I bought the book for $., yet it's $. on iBooks. A digital copy should be much cheaper than the physical book. No printing, no binding, no shipping, no physical presence (rent, utilities, payroll), but we get $ off. No deal.

1. Very Useful - I highly recommend this book for anyone who seems to act as their own worst enemy. I know I did, and did not realize it until after I listened to this book on tape. After searching I Tunes for similar books, this book really stuck out to me because of the author's credentials. However, I found myself looking forward to learning more from Shirzad, since his content has helped me differentiate between the negative thoughts that would really bog me down from the constructive ways of thinking that have helped me in my personal and professional life. Shirzad's tone of voice is very comforting, and can enliven the "Sage" in any listener. Please listen to this book, and utilize this knowledge in your lives for your own happiness and success.

2. Inspirational yet Pragmatic: A Must Read! - What a gold-mine of a book! An extremely useful text for increasing performance, success and happiness. As the author states: much like Sisyphus--the mythological king who was forced to roll a boulder to the top of a hill every day only to watch it roll back down in the evening--our best efforts to achieve our goals or increase our happiness often unravel. Though we frequently try to attribute our failure to others or uncontrollable circumstances, Shirzad Chamine shows in this book that it's usually due to our own self-sabotage. Over the course of his engaging and incredibly pragmatic text, Chamine hammers home the point that though our minds are sometimes our best friends, they are often our worst enemies. He describes our minds as having both Sage and Saboteur powers, each corresponding to different regions of our brains: the PQ Brain (Sage) and the Survivor Brain (Saboteurs). The more we are able to activate our PQ Brain and our Sage, the higher our Positive Intelligence Quotient (PQ) becomes. Chamine uses numerous research and anecdotal examples to make a compelling argument that people and teams with higher PQ achieve more and are happier across all aspects of their lives. Through both his sound argument and a myriad of my own personal experiences, I believe it! The thing I love most about this book is how serious it is about affecting positive change. It's not some loose framework or a series of things to "think about." It's actually about giving the reader an accessible toolkit to improve the way they experience life, affect their colleagues, and pursue their goals. From tools like Sage Power Games to the Three Gifts Technique, Chamine presents easy-to-do, CEO-tested techniques that actually make a difference. In fact, I've been so pleased with his PQ Reps technique ( second intervals of returning my focus to my breath and five senses) that I've shared it with multiple of my fellow entrepreneurs, friends, and family. Chamine states at the beginning of the book, "I encourage you to have high expectations for this book...[it] can change your life and be a game-changer for your team. Please don't settle for anything less." I haven't settled and, thus far, it's been a terrific ride!

1. Solid - In my first listen, it sometimes seemed repetitive, but as I listened closer, it was focusing on nuance, which I appreciated. I bought both the audio book and the digital hard cover. The message is clear. We get out what we put in. Its really astonishing how much of a factor time combined with habit is.

1. Leadership Transitions Blueprint - The VP of my organization recommended this one to me when I took on a leadership role on the team. Within minutes of reading the first chapter my mind was racing at a miles per hour. I thought it was enough to know about the different styles of leadership; my preference being the servant leadership philosophy. This book made me go many layers deeper into management philosophy and preparation. The first -days are important in almost all walks of life. From school, to work, to relationships. So any learnings and frameworks to make this period run smoother is welcome. But frankly, much of the “advice” out there is rubbish. Mr. Watkins book stands out among the field. It offers many tools and insights for understanding why transitions can be hard and how to avoid those pitfalls. Beyond the risk assessments, the books provides frameworks and methods for thriving in transitions of all types. There is a process for everybody, from getting a promotion, to the new-hire leader, to the re-organization scenario. The hard part is slowing down all the ideas that race through your mind while reading it. You should keep a scratch pad near by and go slow.

1. A book I will read at least once every year - As an introvert, I wished I had read this book earlier. Building strong professional relationships had always been a challenge, and not helped by the negative perception of networking (e.g. fake, expected do’s and dont’s, currying favors). I got to know this book after I took Keith’s authentic networking online course in MindValley. I had a much healthier perception of networking after the course and reading this book, and am much more comfortable to approach networking in my own terms, in a structured manner (which is easier for me to implement) and still create impact. I see myself reading this book at least once a year to refresh and build on what I learnt the prior year.

1. Wish there was a shortened version - % of the book is anecdotes about unbelievable people. The narrator is intensely boring and you’ll want to listen to it on at least .x - x speed. It is said to be hrs mins and it was a real grind to get through it. It probably could have been - hours easy. That being said, I give it stars because the thesis of the book is eye opening.

2. A Good Quick Read - Definitely worth the money and the time spent reading it. Newport provides an interesting take on passion as it relates to a career with numerous examples. However, at times I felt the flow was off from one topic to the next. Furthermore, the constant review after each section and then at the end of chapters was unnecessary. Lastly, an argument could be made as to how the persons of example in the book would relate to the average individual. Many of them were graduates of ivy league schools and/or young business prodigies. With that being said I would recommend picking it up for anyone out there with the goal of finding their dream job on their mind.

1. excellent! - I just started reading this and it is exceptionally easy to read as an engineer. Thanks for translating this stuff for us. As a grad student and dealing with poor manager types you end up with a lot of stress. So many if my colleagues are stressed out all the time and prone to break downs. It is such a waste of time and energy and diverts us from why we choose to do engineering and grad school. To make the world a better and more awesome place.

1. Simple, Insightful and Effective - What a great networking handbook. Easy to read, with great examples and mini stories to explain and support the thesis. Well laid out with a logical process, this book is already helping to transform my networking meetings. After reading it in a very short time, I immediately started using some of the suggestions and it has enabled me to focus on networking meetings in ways I had not previously thought of. As a result, these meetings have become more enjoyable and more productive.

1. If there was ever a must read business book, this is it! - This is a collection of genuine and insightful learning opportunities experienced by the authors and practiced by the “coach”. This book is worth the read and should be placed as the center of the tools used by any business leader not because of the economic value created by the guidance of Bill Campbell or the who’s who of companies and executive he influenced but rather because of the lessons you will learn from one of the greatest business leaders of our time. Very few who read this book will actually have known Bill Campbell, but by the end, you will know him through a lifetime of coaching.

1. Great ideas, with a curmudgeonly attitude - This is one of the better books I have read on writing nonfiction. Most “how to write” books assume the writer wants to put out a best-seller or a great novel. I am writing a book on communication, so Zinsser’s hints were right in place. You can tell he is a successful writer of the old school, because he is uncompromising in his style and acceptance. We newbies cannot always afford to do that, but it is good to keep in mind what his lofty goals for us are, and to realize the differences in writing style with nonfiction. The book definitely drags a bit mid-section, as Zinsser relies too much on expansive quoting of others. The first third, focusing on the basic elements, and the last third, where he gives some broad concepts, are better. I especially liked his annotated article on Timbuktu, which brought his whole approach together. If you want to write nonfiction, this is the guidebook for you. For fiction fans, this will give you some good ideas, but is missing the stylistic aspects that make fiction ring.

2. Gem of a book; too bad idiots can't see past the typo - I find it hilarious that Necro is bashing On Writing Well because of single typo (which the author wasn't even responsible for) when I spotted a major misspelling in his comment. If you don't know the difference between "then" and "than," or if you don't bother to revise your writing, you have no business writing reviews.

3. Great, great book - I can’t believe the stupidity of those people for criticizing an entire book for a single typo in the marketing blurb. I’m a professional writer, and “On Writing Well” is the book that put me on that path. It’s filled with great advice and examples, and anyone who’s serious about writing—whether you do it for a living or you just have to write email for work—will benefit from this. Buy it, read it, and follow its advice.

4. IGNORE THE TYPO, PINHEADS. - For people who should hopefully be familiar with the publishing business (scouring the iBook Store for a resource to hone their writing skills) it is simply foolish to blame William Zinsser for that typo. Firstly, authors don't usually write the marketing "pitch lines" that get tacked onto the covers of their work. And secondly, even if they did...that is the task of a Proof Reader. So for those educated enough not to regard this as an indictment on the author's ability to write, or teach writing, I can highly recommend this book. I own it in print and now - motivated by the unjust, imbecilic Star reviews - I am probably going to purchase an electronic version as well. Zinsser's advice is superb and succinct. This is a true classyc.

1. Good Read - A friend and co-worker encouraged me to read this because we are both at critical points early on in our careers that require important decisions for us and our families. This book really helped him in his decision making process regarding grad school. I found it helpful but would not put it on the same level as Habits, As a Man Thinketh, or The Law. Dr. Christiansen's life experiences are inspiring and I definitely see how this could be influential for many people. His parallels between management theories and life are well thought out. Worth the read.

2. An amazingly readable, structured framework for life decisions - In short: Christensen's academic work is best-in-class because its relevance transcends industries, business sizes, and even borders. Here, Professor Christensen, James Allworth and Karen Dillon have shown that his theories also transcend the traditional boundaries expected from business (and even self-help) literature. It's an academic, personal, and spiritual tour that can't help but organize and transform the way you live your life. In writing this book, the co-authors faced several significant challenges: First, to take a message so powerfully delivered and passionate (I was lucky to be one of those in attendance for his talk to the graduating class of ) and successfully transcribe the intense emotions therein into the written medium. Second, to capture the essence and the totality of Christensen's accomplishments in a way that does them justice, while at the same time enabling the reader to replace his superhuman feats with their own decisions and struggles, (try as I might, I'll never be the center for Oxford's basketball team...). Finally, to distill a rigorous and structured academic framework for making decisions about one's life into an accessible, influential, and actionable message for the masses, (try as I might, I'll never be a Rhodes Scholar...). The ultimate challenge was to craft a message interweaving Christensen's life, teachings, philosophy, and accomplishments into one unified, understandable, and teachable narrative - and this book delivers. I highly recommend!

3. An Education of a Lifetime in this Book - I have spent a lifetime reading so many books of this type, but no book has touched me and resonated with me as much as this book has. Each chapter starts off as a business lesson that is later applied to your personal life. There are so many useful examples that it is too hard here to do justice to them all without writing a book in this review. I plan purchase three more copies, one for each one of my children so they too as young adults can be exposed to this wonderful book. Many of the ideas contained in this book should be taught in our schools and I believe the impact would be profound.

4. Left me thinking very deeply - Like many good self help books this book is full of brilliant ideas that I can apply. But what I liked most about this book is that it left me with very important questions to ponder upon. The context in which these questions are posed makes them even more powerful and profound.

5. Life-changing book - I finished this one day after purchasing it. I now have new theories to apply -- that I am excited to apply -- to my own life and to my family and to my career. This is truly a life-changing book. I feel deeply indebted to the authors for their insight and for new paths that my life will take as I apply these theories -- these truths.

6. A new lens for the way you live your life - This book is a must-read for anyone afraid of disrupting their own lives. Christensen, Allworth, and Dillon, provide an insightful, practical, and analytical framework that will give you a new lens upon which to approach the decisions you face in your day-to-day life. Like Professor Christensen himself, it is not a 'preachy' read, rather, it is a humble, sincere, inclusive, and honest guide to asking the right questions when faced with decisions both big and small in your life.
It is a delight and surprising page turner as the authors outline how business strategy can be applied to larger questions of meaning.
We don't usually give as much thought to the analytical framework of our own lives as we do in our professional capacities, this book will get you on your way to focusing your energy and critical thinking on a work-life balance that is both satisfying and rewarding.
Part Randy Pausch, Mitch Albom, and Jim Collins, whether graduating from school, becoming a parent, or sending your kids off to college, this read is worthy of your time and attention.

1. Just what I needed - This book hit me just at the right time. I’ve been in the profession of software sales all of my life. Recently after bouncing times to different companies in years I finally realized it’s time to take control of my life and make what I want to happen in my life and put it into motion. I’m middle aged and I’ve had many doubts that I’m too old. That the industry I want to be in is for young people. That I have too many financial obligations to go for it. I have been make of excuses. Enough! This book helped me pick myself off the mat and realize that it’s up to me. It’s up to me to change my mindset. To be more intentional with my actions. To just go for it. This book came to me at the right time and has set me on a growth mindset path.
