1. Too detailed - I was disappointed in this book. I almost couldn’t get through it. The first half or so is filled with minute details of the origins of the Vanderbilt family in the ’s. The intermittent referencing throughout the book back to these characters sometimes made it difficult to track. The last third of the book is the best, but also is too mired in minutia.

2. VANDERBILT - Well-written! Gave me so much imagination what it is like to be in New York during Glided Age and how it transformed New York now. Didn’t realize the influence from Vanderbilts almost everywhere in NYC. I have to admit that I am disappointed when the book had to end. I wish there are more chapters to read!

2. What a tornado of a life story! - Excellent writing and very entertaining. Also, very frustrating in Mike’s abuses of alcohol and drugs. I thought to myself, how are you not dead? How can you keep doing this to yourself and letting down friends and family? The transformation from a crackhead to a man who opened up his heart and turned his life over to Jesus was very heartwarming. This book, this story has inspired me to look within my own self and seek full understanding of God‘s love and forgiveness. Thank you Mike Lindell!

Very interesting and inspiring - "What Are the Odds" is Mike Lindell's inspiring autobiography, the story of how he descends into addiction but overcomes it, to beome a very successful businessman with a healthy spritual, family and emotional life. With unusual frankness, Lindell takes us through the highs and lows of an addict, giving us insights into the mindset which some of us have trouble understanidng, how a person can let a substance take over and ruin a life. Mike lost his money, lost a dream in which he had invested his money and heart, and at one point almost lost his life. He maturely and healthily takes responsibility for the choices that brought problems upon himself, but doesn't remain mired in the bad times. He is an overcomer and a thriver, and I recommend this book to anyone who loves an addict, anyone who loves a good book about achieivng dreams against the odds, and anyone who enjoys an inspiring book - period. Round the Red Lamp I am so thankful that I ran into this quirky gem by classic writer Arthur Conan Doyle! "Round the Red Lamp" is a book of interesting short stories, mostly concerning the life and practice of doctors during the s. Some stories were particularly moving. It was quite fascinating to learn about practices back then, as well as how the scientific background of the doctors affected relationships and other aspects of their lives. I loved the humor, romance and suspense that were sprinkled through some of the stories, as well.

7. Inspirational and entertaining - What an amazing story of heartbreaking pain from addictions and the indomitable will and faith to overcome. Mike Lindell takes us through his incredible journey through crack and gambling addictions and the painful ramifications to his family and his own self respect. Despite the subject matter, Lindell creates a compelling narrative that makes the story a fascinating look at the perils of drugs, gambling, business and politics! Foremost it is a story of hope and faith for which I am most appreciative.

8. Excellent story of redemption - This book was a confirmation of faith in Jesus and the redemption one can have. It made me cry that his life took such a hard path but so grateful there were people in his life to help him see Christ. 9. Divine Appointment - What are the odds? One in one. This book is an amazing example of how the the One with amazing power works in all of us. Like Mike, I look at things mathematically. For a little while now, I’ve been writing down things that happen to me that can’t be explained as coincidence. I end each entry with, “I see you, God.” When you know He is there, you will know the chances of any miracle are always one in one. All of us have a calling and once you see God in your own life, you immediately see Him everywhere. This book is SO well written that I feel like I’m there with Mike the whole time. Edge-of-your-seat reading from cover to cover. The miracles in this book brought this grown man to tears more than once. I will make sure everyone I know reads this book and I hope you do, too. 1. feels like the backstory to an under-appreciated city - While a great read for anyone, this is a must read for anyone who has lived or does live in Saint Louis. I have been here for three years and have had the unshakable feeling that the history of Anheuser Busch is inseperable from the history of this great city. The story here is always gripping and never drags, from the brewing of an iconic (if less than delicious) beer, to the clash of old school business with the globalization and consolidation of industry, to the details of a wealthy family who seems to be portrayed honestly, whether good, bad or ugly.

2. Great Story - Didn't know very much about the Busch family when I started, but this book really opened my eyes. I felt like the author was very fair in his interpretations. When he writes about the takeover, I was afraid I wouldn't be able to follow along, but he really did a great job of explaining things.

3. Well Done! - Amazing story that goes in depth of a world most all of us will never know or understand. The rise and fall of the Bush family and thus the company is tragic but the lessons are invaluable. Having watched (from the inside) a company grow to a fortune size only to have the reins turned over to an "outsider", this story seems familiar. The story is compelling, the writing complete.

Great Story of How Easy it is for a young girl to be exploited and how she rised above it. - I have been a fan of Traci Lords only since when I heard her music and saw her in Tommyknockers (then remembered her from Crybaby), and it wasn't until my cousin heard me say I loved Traci Lords that I found out about her past (she had no idea she was anything other than a "child porn star" so was freaking out that I liked her and I was like "Whaaat?"). This book (which I bought hardcover the day it was relased) tell all about her past from her point of view, how she came up with her name Traci Lords, her time in the porn industry, her arrest by the FBI, and even why she decided to legally change her name to Traci Elizabeth Lords rather than go back to her birth name.

1. Good read with some problems - I really enjoyed this book. It's an easy read and I finished it in about a day. The editing however is awful. Events are told out of order. At one point the author describes the time as dusk and the next paragraph it's suddenly afternoon. There is also a lot of redundant language. The writing just reads like a th grade English paper.

2. Couldn't put down - This is by far one of the best books I could not put it down. My husband and I went on vacy to Mexico and I couldnt even put it down there. It was heart wrenching and I had to see what for what was next. I fill so sad for the family's that lost love ones and for what everyone of them had to go through. This is a muxt read.

3. So heartfelt - The story itself is so tragic and my prayers go out to the families of all men. The book itself was not edited very well, but honestly this is a real story and you can't help but be sucked it even though you know the tragic ending for of the men. It's incredible to me that Nick survived against all odds. I can't even imagine what it really felt like to be out there, but this book gives you a good idea. It's worth reading and it will give you insight as to what happened. Nick you should never feel guilty for being alive, take the blessing you were given and do as much good as you can with the time you have been given. I truly believe it is what your fallen friends would have wanted. Love and prayers to all!

4. Not Without Hope - I didn't know what to expect from this book only that I was curious to read about this tragic accident. The author gives painful details about his ordeal and the deaths of his friends. It is a very descriptive book. I could understand the emotions of the family members who lost their men. Life changes in the blink of an eye. Hope keeps us going. It is an unseen force that allows us to overcome unbearable situations. This book reinforces this belief.

1. A good book - Mr. Satya Nadella has written a good book that states a good view of where Microsoft is going under his leadership. It makes me feel better as a shareholder, anyways, so I’ll keep buying Microsoft stock. I am not a fan of some of the left-leaning and right-bashing politics on display in the book, but at least it was respectful. I like Mr. Nadella’s vision on Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Augmented and Virtual Reality and quantum computing, especially Microsoft’s investment into education and advancement in these areas. Also, it warms me that Mr. Nadella and his family support Seattle’s Children’s Hospital.

Enjoyed immensely - As an event planner myself, I could appreciate her anecdotal stories of event disasters averted, clients impossible to please, long hours and the relentless demand to stay ahead of trend. But what pulled me in the me the most about the book was her personal story of her journey through a deep personal trauma. it was well written, candid, heartfelt and honest. Everything one can hope for in a memoir. The success she has achieved has undoubtedly been earned, and this book is a testament to that.

1. Worthy of It's Subject - A well-written, well documented narrative describing the establishment and ascendancy of this hyper- popular restaurant. As an In-N-Out regular every time I am in California, this recounting seems ver accurate. It captures the massive affection regulars feel for In-N-Out without leaving out the one seamy period in the restaurant's history. Interestingly, I read a good portion of this book on a recent vacation to SoCal where I introduced two friends to In-N-Out, one of whom is not a burger lover...need I tell you we went back? It really is THAT good and so is this book.

1. More of the same "doom on Apple" drivel - It's a pity that Ms. Kane resorted to such cheap PR tactics in an effort to sale more books. I used to enjoy her work in the Journal, but this book veers far from offering an objective lens of the current state of Apple. She posits that Apple no longer innovates; well, she must be obtuse or oblivious to the release of the new Mac Pro last year. What about the new iPad Air? It is significantly smaller, % lighter, more powerful, and has increased battery life all at the same time. This is more of the same "doom on Apple" drivel that people have been composing since the late s. With Jony Ive and his small team of designers pushing the envelope in materials, methods, and manufacturing, the best years for Apple lie ahead.

The rest of the book became a complete hit piece filled with personal opinion with little fact. Pretty sad this individual was employed at WSJ. Maybe there is a reason she no longer works there; obviously needs an editor.

When asked what makes Jony Ive "controversial", she responded with "Just as a person...but, you know, just his ego..." What drivel. Is this even a thought?

1. Gift to women, especially young and Black women. - Very inspiring read. Well written with insight and lessons for many. It’s relatable on a cultural level for the many she aims to inspire. It’s personal and professional and should be used simultaneously as a tool and a guide for the marginalized women and men of the world. We all have a voice, we need education, opportunity, and health care with safe and secure childhoods, not handouts to achieve equity. Then those voices will be louder in unison as they fight together with diversity to make the world a better place for all.

1. A look into a great country few appreciate - Having spent the first years of my career working for Hyundai and Kia, including a few trips to Korea, this book definitely resonated with me. Seoul is probably the most underrated major city on the planet, and the Korean people are some of the most genuine and hardworking folks you will ever meet. I may very well name my next dog Chairman! I just returned from the Detroit auto show and was impressed with how far Hyundai and Kia have come in a few short years. The Genesis product is beautiful. Everyone at Hyundai should be proud of what they have achieved.
