Sonnier/Raven Brought Cajun/Country back on TOP! - Back in when I was in Orlando, I remember watching the video for the song "Fais Do Do" &, honestly I was mesmerized by an unmistakable chemistry that, surprisingly, flourished throughout the entire album, as I discovered after downloading it this week On "Cooking Cajun", legendary Louisiana musicians Eddy Raven & Jo-el Sonnier triumphantly recaptured the vibe of a traditional bayou get-together & modernizing it for a new generation Even though both superstars shine on their own with their solo hits; in other words songs each, they REALLY stand out on of the album's tracks which happen to be exceptional collaborations between them For instance, of my favorite tracks are newly recorded versions of a couple of old country hits with a decidedly Cajun beat; "Jambalaya" was first recorded & popularized by Hank Williams, and "Diggy Liggy Lo" was a popular hit for Brothers Rusty & Doug Kershaw & also recorded by the late great Jimmy C. Newman, who actually was the first Louisiana man to combine both styles & make it a success Excellent job guys, I hope to include it at the next Mardi Gras in P.R.

In Valse de Bayou Teche, the listener hears the most quintessentially Cajun song (other than Jolie Blon, of course, which is known widely as the Cajun National Anthem) by the accordionist best capable of showing it off. And don't miss A Musician's Life, where Abshire also shows his lofty abilities.

2. The Cajun Legend: The Best of Nathan Abshire - As a Cajun accordion and fiddle player, this album is a must have. It includes several standards such as the Kaplan Waltz and J'etais au Bal, and other less often heard, but great songs like the Tracks of My Buggy.The music is pure cajun, and less embellished than the stylings of fiddlers like Michael Doucet and accordion players like Marc Savoy. This makes it a good choice for beginners to intermediate players who want to learn from a pure and simple form of the song. Nathan's vocals are pleasant, not at all nasal, and you can definitely hear the Basile in his voice. If you listen to Courtney Granger or the Pine Leaf Boys, you will hear his influence to this day. This album is a great value.

1. Experience Southern Louisiana--A Good Intro to Dewey Balfa - This is a good intro for people who are interested in hearing true "cajun" music. The instrumentals are all toe-tappers and you get a flavor of the culture in the vocals. Plus, at songs for bucks, this is a bargain. Dewey was the king of Cajun Music and his daughter carries on the tradiation in Balfa Toujours. Check her out. (Whiskey River Landing is a good CD to begin with.) This isn't for everyone, but I like it alot. I hope you do, too.

1. Zydeco Soul Singer - It's hard not to be reminded of Al Green when listening to this CD, especially the homage "Let's Get Funky Tonight." This is the sound that distinguishes him from everyone else playing zydeco, and he's great! I wouldn't mind at all if covered some Al Green on his next CD, maybe my favorite Al Green tune "You Heart's in Good Hands." It's a little slow for zydeco, but we're talkin "soul music" and you've got to let it "breathe." Add this CD to your collection.

2. Zydeco Junkie Wins the Zydeco Grammy - Chubby Carrier wins a Grammy for his album Zydeco Junkie. His music is swampadelic from the very fist beat. This band knows how to lay down the tracks and make for the perfect zydeco party. His personality makes this cd shine, as well as his musical talent. No dissappointment here, Chubby knows what he's got to do and he's proved it Ain't No Party Like a Chubby Party! Congratulations on the Grammy win, this cd is one to celebrate and make sure it is in your collection!!

1. high performance cajun band - By far one of the best cajun dance hall bands. There isnt many of these bands left and these guys are keeping that style of cajun music around and keeping it fresh. If you want the real deal this is it. Jamey Bearb is one of the best cajun singers around, his lyrics are always right and on key and pitch. So glad these guys are doing what they are. No gimmics ,no bells,whisles just real true cajun music.

1. Voyageurs: Best Steve Riley & Mamou Playboys CD yet! - I can't get enough of this band or this collection of songs! Voyageurs is a wonderful mix of traditional Cajun music tunes (Crapaud/Fruge', La Betaille, Malcolm's Reel) edgy dance songs (Madame Faillelle, Bernadette, Boozoo's Blues) , and foot-stomping festival favorites (Tite Fille de la Campagne, Allons Boire un Coup). I have seen this band many times and they always perform beautifully, whether it's outside in the dust or the rain or inside a crowded dance hall. The band is tight and never disappoints and neither does this CD. Steve Riley is the consummate performer whether on vocals, fiddle, and accordion, and Kevin Wimmer's gritty voice and fiddle are wonderful additions to an already outstanding band. Listening to their most recent collection is the next best thing to being there in person. Buy it!

2. Steve Riley tops his best. - The latest album from Steve Riley & The Mamou Playboys perfectly melds the traditional with a modern sound, and even manages to find a pop feel to the sound. For those unfamiliar with Cajun music, I think this music offers a bridge into that world, allowing an appreciation without a total immersion required. The lyrics are sung in French, the sound is definitely known to Cajun music aficionados, but those unfamiliar with either can still appreciate it.

1. Nice blend of traditional and new - This CD has a real authentic feel to it, like sitting out by a Louisiana bayou might feel. The artists are respectful of each other, and both add their unique talents and voices. My favorites are Feed it to the Fish, Chere Mom, Lake Arthur Stomp and Louisiana Man. Best to listen while you are out on the porch cooking some crawfish or grilling steaks, as the case may be.
