1. Smash Hit and Richly Deserving - This is the classic album that took Santo Domingo's bachata style around the globe. An amazing string of eminently danceable numbers in Spanish lyrics that are themselves hallmarks of a master of el merengue in all its variants (check his other great albums, too). Beny Moré's crown as singer/songwriter went directly to El Doninicano Alto Juan Luis. My MOST recommended Spanish Caribbean dance album in two generations. 2. Poet Lauerate of Santo Domingo - Without a doubt I think Juan Luis Guerra has been the best of everything that has come from Santo Domingo. His music is poetry in motion and many times with a political statement regardimg the issues that the Republic of SD still faces today. His words, rhythm and the coolness complement him as no other. 3. Childhood memories - The song that has stuck with me throughout the years is "Burbujas de Amor". I remember being in second grade hearing this song on the radio for the first time when my dad picked me up from school one afternoon. I remember asking my dad who the artist and telling him that it was a pretty song. I didn't even understand the meaning of the words at that age. This is my favorite song off of the album and to this day, my favorite song of all time.

"Bachata Rosa" - I'm a huge fan of Juan Luis Guerra y El Grupo , and have been since I first discovered them when I was a teenager (), now years later I still can't ever get enough of this man's songs and especially of this album which is my total favorite... 2. Not Trying To Hate..... - I have to say that not only as a Dominican musician, but also as someone who grew up listening to bachata.... i understand what Romeo is trying to do, and it is a fair attempt at what could have been an amazing freshman solo album. However, as he calls this CD LA FORMULA he strays away from keeping the original format of bachata. I understand he is trying to change and develop bachata into something new for a new generation, but he should not try to change the original bachata sound. The albums is full of rockstyle solos and different musical nuances that do make this album a diverse one, while at the same time failing to give us classic bachata constructs as he did with Aventura. The so called FORMULA, is very simple. Stick to music that keeps the original dominican bachata sound! UNLESS, you would like to steer clear from bachata altogether and you created this album as just a trampoline to a full blown POP album. A good example of a song that keeps original bachata musicality is "Bella Y La Bestia" The guitar playing on this track is reminiscent of early "Luis Vargas" sounds. Very earthy, Dominican feel to it. Perfect execution.

About yrs ago I went to my first concert with Marc, Chayanne and Antonio solis At the American Airlines stadium in Dallas TX. And I have to say the best performance that night was by Marc! 2. A New Classic: A necessity for any salsa music recording collector. - I grew up listening to Hector LaVoe and was admittedly skeptical about this album, but after hearing it, I can't sing enough praises for this recording. The arrangements stayed true to the originals while bringing in something new and fresh to these classic songs. Marc Anthony's vocal interpretations of the pieces are bar none (and dare I say, surpassed the originator?). In the realm of salsa, if Marc Anthony's vocal chords were a violin, he would be a Stradivarius. This is one of my favorite Salsa albums of all time. I would recommend this recording to any salsa novice, and have often have purchased copies as gifts, returned with very positive feedback.

4. Imitar versus Interpretar - Ok. Considering that most of the people here are "boricuas" and can understand spanish well, here it goes. Aquí están criticando a Marc Anthony pq jamás se compara con Hector Lavoe; y tienen razón. Como Lavoe, ninguno. Aquí la diferencia es que el no esta imitando a Hector Lavoe, el esta interpretando un papel basado en la vida de Hector Lavoe atraves de su música. Marc interpretó a Lavoe en la película al igual que lo interpretó cantando sus canciones. El mejor ejemplo es cuando Jennifer Lopez hizo la película de Selena ella interpretó el papel de Selena pero la imitó en su música pq ella doblaba la voz de Selena en la película. Aun así todos sabemos que ella jamás hubiese llenado los zapatos de Selena pero cuando se trata de interpretación se la comió. 5. Great album - It appears me that some individuals just aren't Marc Anthony fans bases on the critism that I've read. I consider myself a fair critic no matter if I like the artist or not. As we all can agree, there's only Hector Lavoe. Mr. Anthony does a great job in interpreting Mr. Lavoe's music thru an updated style whiile maintaining the classic sound. His vocals are just as good as Mr. Lavoe's but in his own, strong style. All of the percussions are on point as they were w/ the original artist. 6. SOME SONGS CAN ONLY BE SUNG BY THOSE WHO POPULARIZED THEM - After hearing HECTOR "LAVOE" PEREZ sing these songs for many years, it is EXTREMELY DIFFICULT to hear others sing them. Marc Anthony is a good singer but I don't think he does a good job singing HECTOR LAVOE'S Hit songs. There is something LACKING here and if you've EVER heard the ORIGINAL and you are really into SALSA/MAMBO music you'll know what it is. Marc Anthony sounds lifeless singing these songs. I don't even know why anyone would get this when you could just GET THE ORIGINALS by HECTOR LAVOE. HELLO! WAKE UP! AGUZATE! It doesn't make sense to get these when ITUNES! has ALL the ORIGINALS. Marc is good singing his SALSA ROMANTICA and in ENGLISH, but NOT with this material.

7. A Great Album - When you think of Hector Lavoe, what comes to mind? It is fair to say a Latin-American Salsa Legend! He left a legacy behind that will never be forgotten. Though he had a drug using issue, which took him to the grave, his music showed his best attributes. As far as Marc Anthony, he exemplified the qualities in Lavoe that everyone enjoyed which was talent to sing! If you haven't watched the movie, buy it. You won't waste your money. 8. Use ACOUSTIC instruments, please! - I would have given this album five stars were it not for the flagrant and tacky use of canned strings. PLEASE, if you're going to arrange the instrumentation to include a string orchestra, then don't cheap-out and use a cheesy synthesizer to cover the string line. Do justice to Mr. Lavoe and his music(and throw some hungry orchestra musicians a little work) by recording with a full complement of strings. The singing/arrangements are great, but the use of the synthesizer cheapens the quality of the work(especially in the title track---yuck)!!!!

10. Believe it or not.... this album is GREAT - Marc Anthony is responsible for making a good movie a pretty amazing movie. Even J. Lo's performance was pretty dead on. If you are hesitant to buy this [which you really should not be, though, i understand] you should rent El Cantante and then you won't be able to NOT buy this album. Impressive performances from both M and J. Buy it, Turn it up, Feel the live band and the captivating sound of M's intriguing voice, and ride the wave. Also, the film visually translates most of the lyrics of each of these songs which makes me understand why they were and still are, so moving. Buy it.

11. new fan - Previously not a M.A. fan. Saw the movie, remembered a lot of the original Lavoe hits. Same hometown- Ponce. I have to say Marc was phenomenal. Great tribute to a great former talent. Lavoe was not perfect, but was a sensational entertainer, and what a voice; not to mention the beat, part of 'salsa royalty', true historic music, like salsa was never again. 13. Outstanding .. - I was not a huge fan of Marc Anthony until I heard this album. 14. El Cantante de los Cantante!! - I knew Hector Lavoe personally, and when I went to see the movie with Marc Anthony whom I'm a big fan of also, I could not believe my eye's!! The resenblanance was uncanny I remember crying during the movie, they were happy tears at all the hard work Marc Anthony put into the making of this historic movie! 2. I LOVE PRINCE ROYCE BUT.. - I've been a fan since "Stand By Me" came out. I love Prince Royce's ability to fuse other song genres with bachata, pero.. No me gusta la pop. 4. Royce Disappointment - Man! This cd is pretty bad(not good) he made phase II look better then it was. This album has good songs. Why can he make great music like what he did with his st cd!?! 1. Sublime - I adore Marc Anthony. I discovered him while flipping stations in the car one day, about or so years ago. It was the first time that I had ever listened to a Spanish-language radio station, in this case La Mega . in NYC. I had no idea what he was singing about at that time, I was just hooked on his hypnotic voice. It had massive soul. Since that time, I've learned to speak Spanish pretty fluently and enjoy his music on a level that I cannot adequately describe in words. As one reviewer below noted, his music makes you feel alive. Yes! I've seen him in concert at least ten times, all MSG performances and others in the NY-tri state area, and in Miami. I'm a huge music fan and love live performances. I've never experienced a live show like that which Marc puts on. Just saw him at MSG on //. He just continues to stun. What an amazing man. Just when you think he can't top himself...he does. That's the true mark of an artist. He continuously hones his craft.

4. Sigo Siendo Yo - I've been a fan of Marc Anthony since the beginning, however, I do feel that he has lost some of that flavor and feeling that he had. 6. Marc's personal life. - Lets be clear about something... Marc is a talent to be reckoned with PERIOD! I don't care about who he does and doesn't sleep with. He is entitled to his personal choices and most of all to making the mistakes WE ALL MAKE IN ONE WAY OR ANOTHER! So he and Jennifer found each other while he was still married... So what! HOW DO WE KNOW what was going on behind closed doors. No one is a victim no matter what the circumstances. We bring to ourselves the reflection of how we feel about ourselves. We are such hypocrites that we would much rather HE HAD DONE THE RIGHT THING and stayed married to someone he fell out of love with because that would make him a responsible man. 8. Marc Sigue Siendo el Rey de la Salsa - I have all of Marc Anthony's CD's. Yes, I was expecting a new CD with or brand new songs. However, I'll take the that he included on this CD. I don't know how anyone can sit here and judge other people about their personal lives and what they have and haven't done when they don't even know them personally. How can people be so self-righteous is beyond me. To be honest, I will continue to buy all of his CD's regardless who he's married to or who he's not married. HIs personal life is his personal life. I might not agree how he handled his previous marriage but I'm not him. I will continue to go to as many Marc Anthony concerts and buy as many Marc Anthony CD's that come out. 11. Lukewarm - I am not going to comment on this man's personal life but I will comment on the music. We all have our faults and varying roads which we pursue. However, for lack of a better word, Marc has gotten "lazy". After any artist does a greatest hits album, its pretty much down hill from there. Marc is by far my favorite artist and in my opinion, the king of Salsa but he is a fading star and he will surely lose that title to these newer artists that are hungry i.e. Michael Stuart. The new songs on this album are mediocre at best and it's been two years since "Valio La Pena". Why wait two years for two lame songs? The compilation is nice if you haven't been following him but hard core Salseros and his established fans already have that stuff. It is just frustrating.

14. Marc is still Marc.... - I can't believe someone would criticize Marc Anthony based on what he does in his personal life!!! We all go through various stages of relationships and marriages. Whatever happens in our personal lives is our business. I would never criticize his music. I'm going to his concert in weeks and I can't wait. He is an entertainer. If we held everyone accountable or their success based on their personal life decisions, we have no one to appreciate!!!!! When Marc does put out a CD, he puts out quality music! I agree - I agree with NYChiquita, Marc Anthony has a beautiful voice and I want to hear Mr. Anthony belt out a beautiful ballad and/or move his petite body around the stage to a irresistible salsa that you can't help but to get up and dance to. So he divorced his wife and married Jennifer Lopez, that should have NO effect on his music or the way he sings it. I do think however, he should maybe spend a little more time picking out his material, lets back to the basics and make us swoon to your beautiful ballads and make us move our hips until we can’t stop to one of your infectious salsas.

16. Marc Can Do No Wrong - I'm a year "young" puerto rican youth. And Marc is my role model. I love salsa and I have all his albums. All the way from Otra Nota to this One, even his compilations (just to have them even if i have all his cd's) to support him. I'm just going to comment on the two new songs. Que Precio Tiene El Cielo is just...wow. Excellent and the Lyrics are so powerful. The music is really vibrant and alive..a notch more rumba than any of the songs on Valio La Pena.I mean He always has those heart tugging songs that play with your emotions, his songs always have a climax. Even his ballads. Lo Que No Di, is a stringy classical with rock. Almost batman like gothic. It's awesome. On a note on Marc's salsa: Yea, i've heard people complain that marc's songs have to much dynamics for dancers because of the changes. Honestly, I don't care, that is what makes Marc special. Libre was his best salsa album. Any true music..and musician would appreciate all the different types of musical influences in there (the andino flutes in Barco a la Deriva..omg). This is Marc's staple, the slow start, the rising voice rage and the musical climax. Everyone should appreciate marc for his uniqueness and not trying to be so rumbero or just vocal like other salseros. He's actually in his own salsero class. All his songs...I Love 'em. Marc..congratulations. You are the King of Salsa..and also of ballads too. 4. One of the all-time classics of Cuban music... - It's difficult to put my appreciation for this album into words. My friends know me as an avid music fan, and when asked me what CD I would take with me if relegated to a desert island, I instantly thought of Mi Tierra. Gloria's English language music, both during her stint with Miami Sound Machine and during her solo career, is good in a very commercial and ultimately disposable way. That's what makes Mi Tierra such a revelation. It's anything but disposable and really showcases Gloria as an organic talent. The songs sound beautiful, with careful and lush production and amazing lyrics. I don't know how the emotional intensity of the lyrics comes through for those who do not speak Spanish, but they are some of the most heartfelt and touching lyrics I've ever heard in songs. Most of the instruments are played perfectly by legends of Latin music, and whether a song is upbeat or a slow ballad, each song has amazing depth. This album helped me connect with my Cuban heritage and I recommend it to any fan of music, whether they're into Latin music or not. It's beautiful and timeless music.

1. NYC SALSA!! - I’m a Marc Anthony fan for decades and I JUST discovered this fabulous album. This is straight NYC (his hometown) salsa. Not pop but the classic type stuff that we grew up with and danced to in the Bronx. You MUST get this album if you love Marc but better yet love salsa. This is a album and his voice has not sounded like this on any other album; as beautiful as it still is, so buy this and get lost in the beauty of it.

2. Marc's Masterpiece - A good artist...or Great artist..always has a DEFINING ALBUM: the one that stands out from the others. It trandsends time and music. Michael Jackson, for example, had Thriller. "Libre" is the album DEFINING ALBUM in Marc Anthony's musical shelf. It is the Platinum Jewel of his collection. ANY RESPECTED MUSICAL DISCIPLE will be able to recognize and appreciate the manifestation of the distinct latin rhythms that have been masterfully interwoven and orquestrated to produce such exceptional music. This album is one of the finest I have ever had the pleasure of listening to. His emotion, his voice are so clear and strong that you don't need to understand the words to understand what Marc is trying to convey. Marc forgoes the safety of the more conventional salsa sounds, Libre adds spice and variety while preserving the cultural significance of his music. All the songs are worthy of the highest praise for their lyrics and musical arragements. Also amazingly enough all are incredibly danceable. I absolutely recommend and Love this album, above all others in Marc's collection because it is the best example of how latin rhythms can be successfully combined while the distinction of each rhythm is still heard. The genre here is clearly SALSA but there are hints of other latin rhythm woven into this beautiful latin canvas such as: vallenato, cha-cha-cha and other afro-caribbean signatures. Marc Anthony has exercised his musical creativity to his utmost potential and out from this unique talent has produced a musical masterpiece!

2. Stranded island question - If you were stranded in an island and you could take one album which would it be? My answer: "We Broke the Rules"-Aventura I was in th grade when i first heard this album and i cried like no other. This album in my opinion is the best Aventura album so far! All the songs are awesome. Even "Mi Puerto Rico" and im not even Puertorican. In this cd, they really let the world know what they can do. The potential they all have, espacially Romeo as a writer. The melodys and beats are rich and passionate, as are the lyrics. I can talk about this album all day, so to cut it short i % recomend it!

2. Where is victor manuelle?? - without victor manuelle, this is a waste. I respect this compilation and enjoyed it very much. Buy it because its worth it. I giving only one star because victor manuelle has single-handedly maintained salsa for the young generation for the past years. Marc falls asleep for years at a time while victor has hit after hit. It's a shame he isn't on this.

3. Great Production - Thank you Sergio for at least putting something together, as it's been a while we haven't seen anything in a while! Pay no mind to DJ EZ or his frustration He wasn't even around when we listened and danced to Fania and Alegre Allstars! He mentions Victor M who definitely will go down as one of the best just like Domingo Q, but please don't compare them the people who put Salsa on the map in the Country when the doors were closed in Cuba! Johnny Pacheco and company made it happen along with some that are no longer with us. DJ EZ please show some love to a brother like Sergio who is trying to keep our music alive! Peace to all! 5. A little light but catchy... - I'm a big fan of Sergio George and have followed his productions closely. Very excited to see this live endeavor and great music with great artists. Para celebrar seems very catchy and festive. Still a little light on substantive soneos especially in light of the presence of DeLeon, Canario and Montañez. Still a great tune and quite exciting to see Marc, Luis Enrique and others together. Looking forward to the film.

2. All of their music is great! - This group knows how to pump out great music. For another great bachata record from top to bottom, check out "Penas De Amor" by JUAN LAN FRANCO. This guy sang with PRIMITIVO SANTOS in the 's and had a real big hit with the song "POEMA". A freind turned me on to him and now I'm doing the same. The whole "Penas De Amor" record is great. If you are looking for something new and fresh to to add to your collection, then step into that record. you won't regret it. Cheers!!!!

1. Awsome Colombian Cumbia Collection - These collections are a great find. Tracks are well chosen samples of cumbias through the years. A must have for the latin dance enthusiast. The only thing I would disagree with is the title, there is much more than cumbias with these sets. Although the majority of it has cumbia roots, some tracks can be considered "musica tropical", what we Colombians call tropical music. Never the less, a star collection. So nice to see Disco Fuentes on iTunes.

Classic and Timeless. - I remember as a kid hearing these tracks roar in the background..at the time I was thinking what the hell is that? ..Years later, I am now -rediscovering it and wow, just wow! These tracks are for those tracking our latino musical roots...especially the song "Amor de mis Amores" arguably one of the best tracks!

2. Not much to rave about. Still love em though!!!!! - This album has the same tired sound as their last few. Where is the monster that is waiting to come out guys. Please GRAN COMBO, surprise your loyal fans with a good record!!!!!!!!! In the meantime I will pick up on your many old classic songs. The one to start with folks is SALSA CLASSICS REVISITED. 3. Read The name folks EL GRAN COMBO!!!! Y Punto ! - What a great album as they continue to prove why and how when salsa is done right its here forever! Right now my favorite songs off the bat are Sin Salsa No Hay Paraiso and Columbia Terria Querida. Its great to hear Achilipu bought back to life , But honestly somethings are just ment to be left alone id stay with with the original ( Andy Montanez version) and or hear it live when these SALSA GODS perform!
