1. Awful , inaccurate, and no support-ripoff alert - The "book" is only pages long. The information on headings is incomplete. The information at the bottom of page is inaccurate as page in the actual APA th edition advises no back-to-back parentheses in your writing. That is just for starters. The authors have a web page listed that is bogus. This book is a ripoff. Buyer beware.

2. A must for APA!!! - I am constantly recommending this book to my students. It is easy to understand and makes APA formatting much easier to understand. I have been thanked many times by my students for letting them know about this invaluable resource!!! A must for any college student needing to use APA.

1. So terribly formatted I can’t read it - Tried to read this but it’s not worth the hassle of wrangling with the format it’s been published in. This book looks like a PDF...and an unprofessionally-produced PDF at that. I’m glad I only paid c for this because I can’t read it due to the formatting. Knowing their stringent attention to detail, I have no idea how this passed Apple’s inspection. The writers’ lack of interest in putting out a quality product puts me off ever buying anything from the contributing authors. Really disappointing.

1. About the editions… - Note
• Editions where William Strunk is the sole author are based on the version
• Editions by Strunk & White ( E B White ) are based on the 's updated book
• Newer editions list additional writers
• While this text has been a mainstay for grammar resource, this book is not without its critics. Most feel that this book is now aged & ready for retirement

2. No enough information - I bought this book because I wanted to get rid of the paper version but I realised it did not have enough information. For instance, the Words and Expressions Commonly Misused section only had three words with the letter A, the book I have on the other hand, have words with the letter A. Furthermore, it does not have another section call An Approach to Style.

1. Great Podcast! - I look forward to every one of these podcasts. I haven't missed one of them. Shawn Coyne is a master of story craft and Tim is very brave as the "struggling" writer who lets us all peer under the tent, as he braces himself for Shawn's feedback. Highly recommended, fascinating and inspirational.

1. So, So Useful! - Not only does this book give thousands (!) of ideas for writers, it also show how other authors used similar ideas effectively in their writing. She has suggestions for beginning stories, prompts for mystery, fantasy, sci-fi, young adult, historical fiction, Regency and Victorian, to give just a small sampling. She has prompts based on personality types, occupation, animal instincts, and action. She has setting prompts, embarrassment prompts, anger prompts, and big realization prompts. She has ‘meet cute’ ideas, date ideas, Christmas prompts, sounds, smells, and touch. This book is amazing!
I received this book as a free review copy. All opinions are my own.

1. Old version from - caveat emptor - Everyone that was duped / assumed this was current and updated should ask Apple for a refund. If you expected to get the th edition and happily paid for this - that’s awesome. This listing seems designed to trap people into buying a very not current version of an essential reference work. Shame on Apple for not curating their store metadata better. The listing is correct technically, but wrong culturally. We should expect better like a large warning - “you probably want another version of this book or another vendor” if Apple can’t sell the current version of this book.

2. This is an old, s-era Edition - Potential buyers should be warned. This seems to be a very old edition. I couldn't find out just when it came out from WorldCat. I did discover that the th edition came out in . As the th edition, this one must date from the s, making it nearly worthless as a reference work. It'd be marvelous if the University of Chicago would come out with a digital version of the current th edition of this vital reference. Look ups would be quicker and the text easier to read. My eyes strain on the tiny type of my th edition. For those who prefer digital to print, there is an online version of the current edition available by subscription from the publisher for $/year. Some college and public libraries may also offer access for free. Even better would be an iOS app based on the latest content but with features that an ebook couldn't offer. Some talented developer should contact the UofC press and suggest a collaboration.

1. Not helpful - The authors bring up a lot of interesting ideas to consider, but they don’t provide useful examples of the the ideas in context. Nothing is discussed in-depth. The outlining section (which is only a couple of pages!) is not specific enough to be useful and does not provide a strong structure for the important elements in a novel. Overall, the book is a great brain dump, but not well-developed at all.

1. The Conflict Thesaurus - A Must-Have for Authors! - I don’t know about you, but I loathe conflict. Nobody wants conflict in their life, right? But good authors know that conflict is an essential building block for a book that will keep readers turning the page. Conflict is a necessary part of every story, every plot, even how characters grow and change. External conflict can be easier to figure out – roadblocks, ticking timebombs, people getting in the way of the main character’s goal. But INNER conflict is much more difficult to write. As an author, GMC (goal, motivation, conflict) has always been the most difficult thing to figure out for my characters. But NOW figuring out conflict will be so much easier with the brand spanking new Conflict Thesaurus! The geniuses at One Stop for Writers and Writers Helping Writers blog, Angela Ackerman and Rebecca Puglisi have just released The Conflict Thesaurus! You will find in this thesaurus subjects such as Conflict’s role in storytelling: Shaping Characters, how plot and conflict combine, taking a deeper look into conflict, how to point the character toward growth, figuring out who is standing in your character’s way, sourcing conflict for your story or scene. Types of conflict to look at include types of Relationship friction, Failures and mistakes, Moral dilemmas and temptations, Duty and responsibility, Pressures and ticking clocks, No-win scenarios. Under each of those headings are sub-headings. Under each sub-heading are things to look at, such as: Minor complications, Potentially disastrous results, Resulting emotions, Possible internal struggles, Negative traits that may worsen the situation, Impact on basic needs, Positive traits to help the character cope, and Positive outcomes. There are also wonderful Appendices called: How will your character respond to conflict, and Identifying your character’s internal conflict. Is it any wonder that I’ve been a long-time fan of Angela and Becca? THIS is the book on conflict I’ve been waiting for, and I know authors everywhere will be thrilled to add this to their writing toolboxes! I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy and I devoured it. These thesauruses are always well-thought out and have SO much information, and this one did not let me down.

1. Misleading title - caveat emptor - Shame on Apple for not curating their store better. The title here is very misleading. This is a derivative work and not the Chicago Manual of Style. The title here should clearly reflect what is being sold in my opinion. I wonder if that actual book has a section on burying the lede and communicating clearly and honestly.

1. If this book doesn’t inspire you to write, you’re not a writer - Now, THIS is a book on how to write books. Ms. Aaron demonstrates both her firm grasp on the process of writing and her own personal style, that reading this book makes me want to read all of her other books! Such an inspiration and positive influence! You’ll have to imagine that I wrote more glowing sentiments here, because I’m so jazzed at the moment, I need to get back to my own project. Bravo, Ms. Aaron! Bravo!

1. Well Worth A Read - Geared specifically to writers, this book deals bluntly and honestly with the plague of all writers, procrastination. Well organized and well written, it offers practical solutions and excellent advice. It is easily one of the best 'self help' books for writers you will find and I can't recommend it enough.

2. Helpful for procrastinator/perfectionist artists and others as well - What started for me a casual investigation into tips for my procrastination revealed how it is more of a symptom of deeper issues rather than a superficial cause of non-productive behavior. Coupled with perfectionism, it resonated with me on a very fundamental and unexpected level. Retting' book opened up some new understanding on both of these topics, and particularly for me as a creative person (a visual artist). Retting offers very specific tactics and solutions to overcome these toxic obstacles. Some of the chapters are very writer-specific but even these can be "translated" to your career or passion. One doesn't even need to be a creative type to benefit from the information in this book. She also gives a very thorough and direct overview of procrastination and perfectionism, and how they feed off of each other and create this very unhealthy mindset. I've been immersing myself in the iProcrastinate podcast episodes, which have been my introduction to all of this and from a very scientific and research-oriented angle. Retting' book surprised me by the depth and scope of the topic, and also at the very specific solutions and tactics to help overcome these negative traits. Highly recommended. You may like me have an uninformed notion of what procrastination and perfectionism really are. What I thought were annoying personality quirks have revealed themselves to be a very limiting mindset and very unhealthy behaviors that I was totally unaware of. Retting' book is an excellent introduction to both, as well as being a practical guide for undoing that damage.

1. Sex Scene Rx - A Must Read for Every Erotic Romance Author! - New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author Shoshanna Evers' How to Write Hot Sex: Tips from Multi-Published Erotic Romance Authors is a wonderful reference book for erotica writers of all heats. Even if you aren't a romance writer, you can benefit from this reference. Cara McKenna's "Real Ugly" expands on descriptions. Don't just describe coffee as "coffee." Instead, wouldn't you want a sip of that triple-shot espresso with vanilla whip cream and shaved dark chocolate bits sprinkled on top? Desiree Holt's "Five Sexy Senses to Rev Up Scenes" pounds into us to engage our readers with all their senses--draw them into the story by elaborating on these details. Christine d'Abo's "Boys Will Be Boys" tells us terms that boys use with boys. I learned what a twink was, for example, and resolved to read some M/M romances to research more guy terminologies. If you're not a guy, do your research so that you can write a convincing guy's POV. L.K. Below's "Law of Attraction" details the connection that builds between two characters. This is crucial for any kind of relationship you are writing about--romance, friendship, etc. Kate Douglas's "Writing the Fine Line Between Erotica and Porn" points out the differences between emotionless, plotless sex (porn) and a sex scene that actually moves the story forward. If you want your readers to remember your characters, then definitely write those steamy scenes with the plot in mind. Giselle Renarde's "How to Write Convincing Fetish and Niche Market Sex" beseeches the reader-writer to really do the research required to convince our audiences of the authenticity of our characters. What could be worse than a reader picking up one of our books and crossing us off their list for inauthentic characterization? Charlotte Stein's "Sexy Sentences" illustrates different ways to edit our own work to quicken the pace, deepen the connection, and up the heat level. I literally crossed out two of the three times the word "shoulder" appeared in one of my three-sentence paragraphs when I went back to read my first draft. Isabo Kelly's "Fighting Sex" is a prime example of what's possible in succinct writing, when you're successful in weaving emotion, choreography, and character in a scene. Delphine Dryden's "So You Think You Can Kink?" elaborates about the BDSM world and how to have believable characters, scenes, etc. Jean Johnson's "Biology: The Good, The Bad, & the Sex Scene" explains the differences in arousal peaks in both sexes--important when writing believable sex scenes. Cari Quinn's "Rx for a Saggy Love Scene" emphasizes the small stuff, the dirty talk, the internal thoughts and emotions. Quite useful for deep POV writing. Finally, Anthology Editor Shoshanna Evers' "Getting Published" gives newbie authors seeking traditional publishing the comprehensive basics of that industry and more. The more refers to tips that indie authors may also find helpful. Overall, I highly recommend this book, which is a great resource for any writer but most specifically those who strive to write erotic fiction.
