1. Murder, mysterious books and so much more! - Love is in the air in this book, along with murder, mysterious books and the bond of sisterhood. I do suggest you read the previous books for the character development, not that it’s necessary but you will enjoy the story more knowing some background history on the characters. As usual a interesting read with Nora as the main character, the owner of a bookstore in Miracle Springs, NC. Hiking on the trails behind her house she comes across a crime scene with the officials recovering a body. Strange thing was the decrease had only a book in his pocket. The Sheriff asks Nora if she knows anything about the book. More mysterious books are founded by different people, no one knows who the decrease is. Being near Valentine’s Day there is love, friendships and mysteries to be solved. A fast read, will keep you guessing till the end, plus being basically set in a bookstore you will be adding to your TBR list. Thank you NetGalley for this ARC. I am voluntarily posting an honest review after reading an Advance Reader Copy of this story. NetGalley TheVanishingType

2. Best so far! - The Secret, Book, and Scone Society members are back with another mystery to solve. This comes a little closer to home for one of the members. Hester gets engaged but her happiness seems short lived as she’s worried about telling her fiancé her secret she’s been keeping. Meanwhile Nora is feeling a little concerned about a series of events that have been turning up…a dead body of a stranger, books in her store vandalized, and a series of books that keep turning around town seemingly for Nora to find. Author Ellery Adams has once again crafted a beautiful story about friendship, books, and of course mystery. The characters are each flawed in their own right but this makes them realistic, relatable, and interesting. The mystery is full of red herrings and suspense to keep glue to the book until the mystery is solved. The secondary story or stories are equally as well-written as it takes you on an emotional journey at times they don’t overwhelm the reader with too much going on. The storylines are seamlessly woven together to give the reader a wonderful escape into the town of Miracle Springs, NC and it’s residents. All thoughts and opinions are my own, and in no way have I been influenced by anyone.

1. Great Psychological Mystery - Great Psychological Mystery
A mystery dealing with PTSD and a serial killer who uses the alphabet in his/her strange killings.
I like how the FBI Agents story is told as part of the story line, shows the characters were well thought out. The action and plot twists are gripping right to the end, a great crime thriller.
I look forward to the next book in the series. Proof reading is needed for grammar issues in the future.

1. Five Stars Plus! - If only I could give more stars. Engaging from the first sentence and builds from there. The characters leap off the page and demand attention. The story line stays true with twists you can see coming and those you didn't see coming. The dogs' personalities also shine through. Enjoy.

2. Lost Sleep over Lost Creed - Alex Kava has a way of gripping your soul so tightly that at times you realize you're holding your breath or your heart is hammering out of your chest. This book, Lost Creed, answered so many questions about his sister. I've waited for these answers for years and I'm thankful for the closure. Now we need a happy ending for Ryder and Maggie! Thank you for the amazing research that goes into each book. You are my favorite author and I can't wait to see what comes next. Melanie

1. Mystery and twists - A good novel from many points of view. Some of the sexual tones seem completely unnecessary to the plot but are short in length and easily forgotten. The overall story was quite good. Kept me reading a few nights a week but I definitely wouldn’t say that I couldn’t put it down.

2. Implausible plot, interesting dynamics - Would not say “you need to read this!” But it was on okay story. Implausible that the “wrong action(s)” would result in coverup and more violence….and the solved mystery of the dysfunctional family dynamic and the further dysfunction (intended to create mystery) was just boring….

3. I wish I could do . stars - I liked this book, and I would definitely recommend it to certain people! It was engaging, and it wasn’t very slow for long. After the first couple chapters you want to know more & the plot continues to thicken up until the end. Looking past the vast grammatical errors, I did like the writing style, although sometimes hard to follow between characters & time jumps. Overall, definitely on my list of good books!

4. Quite the fun read! Jaw dropping - It usually takes me forever to finish a book, but not this one. I was always excited to pick it back up, it moves rather quickly. I loved that French was sprinkled throughout the book. (If you buy it digitally, it will be easier to look up exact translations). Loved the secrets and twists, it literally had my jaw dropping a few times!

5. Foley’s best yet! - I loved this book. It was a super quick read and lots of twists and turns as to be expected from her, but the characters were beautifully developed. My relationship with each evolved and changed throughout the story. They were all complex and their actions always felt genuine. A very fun read.

1. The Key to the serial killer. - Ella and Mia are called back to the BAU to work on a case together. Both have been off work for awhile after the last bad case they had where they got hurt pretty bad. This case proves to be trying for them both. And they both come in with careless attitudes. But the job must be done regardless of how bad things are going in their personal lives. Will they get the killer or become to lazy and let an innocent man go to prison? Given an are in return for my review of this book.

2. Anything goes! - Ella and Mia are after a killer. Unfortunately, Ella Dark is in a dark place and no one can help her. Her behavior has included unethical and questionable actions. She has alienated everyone who cares for her. I don’t know what is next for her, but as she proved during this case, anything goes.

1. Murder by the book - I found the book very enjoyable, but not sure I missed something about the desk with different buttons, I found some parts very confused, the key for the box them the the floor board,it could of been any were but it seemed to be right under the desk. Over all i enjoyed the book it keep me interested, glad I read it,

2. Piracy, history and buried treasure - I am rather late coming to this series, and join in with the other reviewers who are not fans of love triangles in cozy mysteries. Judging by some of the comments, it looks as if the author has ignored these reader preferences, and has continued the triangle in subsequent books. I do not know anything about the author’s bio, but the way the triangle was handled has led me to question the author’s maturity, if not actual age, or at least emotional intelligence. Marc, the police chief, who has been patient as Addie struggles with her grief and conflicted feelings about entering into a new relationship, is now expected to also patiently wait as she chooses between him, and a new rival, Simon. I also did not find the history of New England piracy and the theme of buried treasure particularly interesting. While actual reference works on this topic were incorporated into the plot, I am hoping future entries in this literary mystery series will go in the direction of exploring the New England poets and writers of which there are so many, such as Emily Dickinson, Nathaniel Hawthorne, Emerson or Thoreau. The ending seem to conclude rather abruptly, relative to the time spent on earlier plot developments. Would a small town police force really not pursue the robbery of a small business’ cash register and safe?

1. The Big Kauna - I was so sad with this book. I love the Fox and Ohare series and this one just didn’t measure up. It’s like the characters lost their luster. The last book “The Pursuit” really showed the chemistry Nick and Kate have and they began to express their ideas of relationship and even Kate’s father cared for Nick. But in this book it’s like None of their previous shenanigans have ever happened. This book wasn’t entertaining until the VERY END! What a BUMMER!!

2. What a let down - Gotta say up until now I have enjoyed anything written by Janet Evanovich. The Big Kahuna is a rare exception. I did not realize Lee Goldberg was not part of the writing team on this book. His presence and voice are sorely missed. The whole fun of these books comes from the weird and wacky crew Nick pulls together and the cons he plans for the bad guys! I love it when Nick and Kate win. I love Kate’s father and the “old guys network” he calls in to play a part with whatever the current caper is. I had to make myself continue to read this book and I must admit it was a struggle. I was b.o.r.e.d! The first / of the book reads like a travel brochure. Not fun at all. I gave stars because there really was some action (finally!) but it didn’t come along until the final few chapters. Overall an extremely disappointing installment of the Fox and O’Hare series. Maybe the next one will be better.

3. Did they not read the earlier books? - I love the Fox and O’Hare series and have looked forward to this book for a long while. Sadly, it’s written as though the authors never even read the previous books. The characters are shallow shadows of their former selves who seem like strangers. Previous plot lines that needed to be pushed forward have been totally abandoned in favor of a story that meanders from a lackluster start to a completely boring and predictable finish. Wish I could get my money back, but rest assured I won’t buy another installment of this series until/unless Lee Goldberg returns to write it.

4. Where was the con?!? - This is a fun series but this book definitely fell short. No con, no elaborate plan, no in depth descriptions of exotic destinations, no history. Nick bumbles along, no character development. It reads like every other Plum novel, which is fun but unfortunate for this series. A disappointment considering how long the wait was for this book and the rest of the books in the Evanovich village.
2019-06-07
5. Big kahuna - So disappointed! What happened to the characters?! The writing is not as crisp and witty! The relationships are back to where they were in the beginning of the series only without the wit and sexual tension. Either stop the series or get Goldberg back. I won’t read another one from this series. Hope she doesn’t do this with her other series!!

6. The Big Kahuna - I have been a fan of JE for years with my favorite series being the one featuring Stephanie Plum and all its colorful characters. One by one I have dropped her other series until I enjoyed the Fox and O’Hare one - that is, until this latest bomb. The cast of characters are not recognizable as the original ones. These are more like a band of buffoons with the stupid plot and dialogue. Who talks that way? Certainly not the prior group of characters in other stories. Is JE losing her touch or is it because she has turned over the writing to her son? I am an avid reader and usually can finish a novel in - days but not this one. I have been struggling to read this latest book for over a week and could only finish chapters before I had to call it quits. I never like to give up on a book before I finish, but I can’t spend any more time on this one. Sorry Janet, but this is the last Fox and O’Hare book I will buy. I will stay with Stephanie Plum unless you stop being the author and bring in another “co-author”.

7. What happened? - I loved this series until I read this book! Had to wait FOREVER for this to come out. Soooo very disappointed after the wait! What happened? Totally different than any of the other books in the series and not in a good way! Miss the other characters. GET RID OF THE SON! Peter can’t write! Let him start a new series instead of ruining this one! Disappointed doesn’t even cover it!!! Actually depressed because it was so bad!
2019-05-16
8. So Sad!!!!! - I have been waiting so long for the next book to this series, that I was so excited when it finally came out. If you know this series at all, you know that this is NOT Nick Fox and Kate O’ Hare.
Nick Fox is a suave, high class, intelligent, best con man. He is not goofy, comedian, cute guy personality.
Kate O’Hare is a tough, cute sexy, ex-Navy Seal, that lives for the FBI. She is torn with working with Nick and his cons for the better good, because secretly she enjoys them, especially Nick.
Nick and Kate have been intimate since book , “The Scam”. That intimacy carries on through out book , “The Pursuit”. Nick has already admitted that Kate is everything to him and is enamored with her. But in this book it’s like those other books didn’t even exist. Kate’s father Jake does like to blow things up, but his first priority is for Kate’s safety and to his country.
It also seems that Mrs. J and her son forgot that Nick is on the most wanted FBI list, because Nick would never go to the LA FBI headquarters to talk cases in Jessup’s office. Jessup goes to Nick, this set up with Nick and Kate that Jessup is in charge of is more or less illegal. So it needs to be highly confidential. Not going around to talk to all the law enforcements that they can.
I miss the team that they have. I miss the talks Kate has with her sister. Cosmo Uno needs to stay in his cubicle.
I can write pages of how many things are wrong with this book. At least Kate her Toblerome at the end.
This book needs a major rewind, redo, and get back to the Nick Fox and Kate O’Hare that we all love.

9. What? - Wow! I’m not even sure I can finish this book. Not sure if it’s because Mr Goldberg isn’t one of the authors or what but this book is nothing like the others in this wonderful series. There’s no depth to the story or the characters. I do not like writing bad reviews but don’t waste your money if you’re a fan of the series.
2019-05-11
10. The Big Kahuna - The book is not a good e tension of the Fox and O’Hare series, the characters have changed and not for the good. I have loved the series since she started it and could hardly wait for this book
but what a disappointment. It doesn’t feel like the person who wrote it knew Nick at all. Kate’s dad Jake, is just someone who wants to kill or harm people, not the man who got involved because he wants to help his daughter or be a better father. Kate is closer to the previous Kate but the relationship she and Nick started in the last two books is gone in this book, it’s as if they never had a relationship. So disappointed

1. I love it! - Outstanding new series from Blake Pierce. Nearly killed on her most recent case and ready to give up, FBI agent Faith Bold is given a second chance in the form of wounded K, Turk. With Turk at her side, Faith is ready to get back in the game and hunt a killer. Turk and her partner, Michael, follow Faith to a small town with a big killer. This was a great first book in a promising new series. I cannot wait for the next.

1. Third book in series! - Murder in the First Edition by Lauren Elliott may be the third A Beyond the Page Bookstore Mystery, but it can be read on its own. Addie Greyborne donates an first edition of A Christmas by Charles Dickens to the Christmas Charity Auction put on by the local hospital foundation. She takes the appraisal to her meeting with coordinator, Teresa Lang. Teresa is not in her office and neither is the rare book in its locked case. Addie finds Teresa dead at the bottom of the steps with alcohol on her breath. Addie believes it is murder since the book disappeared at the same time, but Police Chief Marc Chandler must deal with facts. Addie, of course, quickly begins investigating despite being warned off by Marc. I like the town of Greyborne Harbor and the descriptions of the shops including Addie’s Beyond the Page. It sounds like a cozy small town where gossip spreads rapidly. The Christmas decorations along with the snow enhanced the Christmas feeling. The one problem I have with this story is Addie Greyborne. I do not care for her the way she treated the two love interests. Both Simon and Marc are interested in Addie. She seems to be toying with them. I just do not like the way the two love interests are being handled. I also did not appreciate how she treated Jonathan Hemingway (her almost father-in-law). She should get all the facts before making assumptions. I know part of it is her grief over the lost fiancé, but Addie would not want to be on the receiving end of that type of treatment. I do like Serena, who owns the tea shop, and Addie’s assistant, Paige Stringer. The mystery was complex, and I liked how the deed was done. There are red herrings to distract the reader. It will depend on your sleuthing level on whether you solve this one completely before the reveal. Personally, I would have liked a surprising twist. I could have done without Addie being constantly told to stay out of the investigation (it gets tiresome after the third time). I like the book references and the wonderful descriptions of the rare books. I enjoyed the happy ending and I hope to see a different Addie in the next A Beyond the Page Bookstore Mystery. Murder in the First Edition is an enticing cozy mystery with a treasured tome, an inconvenient in-law, a bothersome blizzard, a vexed friend, and Christmas chaos.

1. Girl, Vanished - This author is spitting out novels faster than bullets . As a consequence, sloppy fact checking, typos, bad grammer, geography errors run rampant. For a college educated, professional FBI agent to continually use “me and him/her/etc” grates on my nerves. The frequency of geography errors is sloppy and annoying. It’s miles from Delaware to Maine not ; and Lake Ozette is in Washington state not Washington DC. Where are her fact checker and editor ? These frequent errors are distracting from what is otherwise a good mystery story. I cannot read this author any longer because I find this level of unprofessional writing too disruptive to the pleasure reading experience. This would be a star book without the careless writing.

2. Girl, Vanished - I have read nearly books by Blake Pierce. Blake writes them so quickly, it’s understandable when they have something of a formula to them. Even so, I like and appreciate all of her characters. Each leading lady has one or more ionteresting quirks which mandate elements of the story, but the quirks are so interesting and so helpful in the pursuit of the culprits that, for me, they hold interest quite well, and I look forward to how the protagonist uses her gifts to prosecute the next investigation.

3. Ooooo!! What a finish! - Ella Dark’s past mistakes cost her the partner she valued and respected and now Mia is not taking her calls or responding to her text messages. Now Ella is partnered with someone difficult to read who does not appreciate her insights and theories. Agent Nigel Byford is a veteran agent with his own past regrets. Once he and Ella exchange their secrets, their conflict begins to ease and they make progress on the case. However, even as they are bringing this case to a close, another more dangerous criminal is breaking free and coming after Ella, and the one person who knows how to stop him isn’t taking her calls. This book was well-written and fast paced. It left off with me wanting more! I cannot wait for the next book in this series.

4. MUST READ!!! - GIRL, VANISHED (An Ella Dark FBI Suspense Thriller book ), FBI Special Agent Ella Dark and her new partner, Nigel Byford, are called in to solve a new case, in Newark, Delaware. Victims have been found murdered, their bodies left peculiarly with coins on their eyes. Ella must draw on her experience, knowledge, and her extensive studies of serial killers. Ella realizes this killer is methodical, ritualistic, and fanatical about the crimes committed. Worse, this one is unlike any killer Ella has ever researched. As this killer defies all expectations, can Ella overcome the roadblocks and prove she can do this without Special Agent Ripley??? A page-turning and harrowing crime thriller featuring a brilliant and tortured FBI agent, the ELLA DARK series is a riveting mystery, packed with suspense, twists and turns, that will keep you flipping pages late into the night!! A MUST READ!!!

1. Girl Hunted - I enjoy your writing and I have now gone onto the third series. I agree you could use a better proofreader, and I am beginning to find the characters redundant. I believe I may go back to reading different authors for awhile. Continuing to write, but try one with a different character type. Thank You for the pleasure of reading some good, but sometimes obvious endings
2022-01-09
2. Slow Reading - I love Blake Pierce’s writing! My favorite series is Jessie Hunt. I was excited to see the Ella Dark series come out. As it is a good book, I feel it takes me forever to keep reading. I find it mirrors Riley Page series with the convicted serial killer helping her solve crimes. Same situation with Ella Dark. I’m a committed reader and will finish every book in the series but it won’t be my first choice to read.
2021-10-05
3. Can’t get enough Ella Dark! - Ella Dark is such a relatable character. Most of the time I am cheering her on and in awe of her intelligence; occasionally, I am berating her for what I feel are questionable actions. Blake Pierce books never disappoint. A book that I get caught up in and stay up too late to finish. I cannot wait for the next one!
2021-09-05
4. It’s heating up! - Ella Dark is an FBI agent with an eidetic memory for serial killers. She remembers the names of killers, their victims, and the details surrounding their cases. Ella uses this skill to help search for killers with her senior partner, the much respected Mia Ripley. In Girl Hunted, Ella makes the foolish decision to make an in-prison visit with Tobias Campbell, the one killer who nearly killed Ripley. He is a master of manipulation and is so dangerous he is kept in a separate wing of the prison in solitary confinement. Ella’s visit is short-lived, as Tobias dismisses her without answering any of her questions, but what he does say to her haunts her throughout the next case. (Their interaction reminded me a little of Riley Paige and Shane Hatcher from the Riley Paige series.)
When Ella and Mia return to work they are on the hunt for a Zodiac copycat. Although Ella’s actions help close the copycat case, her visit with Tobias Campbell has long reaching consequences. The end of this book opens wide the possibilities for future entries. I am looking forward to reading where they go.

5. GIRL, HUNTED - FBI agent Ella Dark with FBI agent Mia Ripley are called in to FBI Director William Edis office after a woman barely escapes from the car of a serial killer. Given her big chance to achieve her life’s dream, to join the Behavioral Crimes Unit. Ella has a hidden obsession: She has studied serial killers from the time she could read, devastated by the murder of her own sister. With a photographic memory, she has developed a encyclopedic knowledge of every serial killer, every victim as well as every case. Singled out for her brilliant mind, Ella is invited to join the big leagues. After the woman barely escapes a serial killer, Ella recalls details from prior cases just like it. This serial killer recalls them as well-and is determined to do the one thing Ella does not expect: to deviate from his predecessors. This deadly cat and mouse game leaves Ella wondering if her talents have a limit? Has she met her match? A page-turning and harrowing crime thriller featuring a brilliant and tortured FBI agent, the Ella Dark Series is a riveting mystery, packed with Suspense, twists and turns, revelations, and driven by a breakneck pace that will keep you flipping pages late into the night!!

6. Blake Pierce has done it again! - Ella Dark is my new favorite FBI agent!! I received an ARC of “Girl Hunted,” book three in this series. This meant I wanted and needed to read and to learn the back story on Agent Dark before checking out this new release. I’ve read all three books in the last six days!! Ella Dark, an FBI Data Researcher, has studied and retained most details from the killings of the most notorious serial killers of all times. Because of her expansive knowledge she’s been asked again to join seasoned agent, and partner in prior cases, to track a possible serial killer who appears to be modeling his murders after the Zodiac Killer. While trying to solve this case Dark also tries to uncover the author of letters she discovered from her late father’s belongings that she has saved since his murder when she was just a child. Additionally, Agent Dark will start down a dangerous path after she initiates communication with a criminal from her partner’s past that she’s been warned not to go near. “Girl Hunted” ends with the need to know what Ella Dark will encounter next and will she be prepared for the evil that lurks around the next corner? When reading any of Blake Pierce’s series, I definitely recommend reading them in order. You don’t have to, of course, but the background information does carry over from book to book and truly enhances the storyline. I’ll be (impatiently) waiting for the release of book four in this series!!!!

1. Finally over! - Finally over! In this installment, we finally see Ella and Mia take Tobias down, along with the aftermath of what his reign has instilled in them. While they take him down, they also handle a final case together, which is quite bittersweet for these characters. With the usual twist and turns, seeing who else Tobias had working with him and a giant manhunt where he per usual is two steps ahead of them, this was the perfect ending to this series-long case that stemmed from decades before the first book. I am interested to see where Ella ends up next with the retiring of Mia and getting a new partner!

1. Outstanding - Stars. Really enjoying the Ballard books. I really need to get further into the early Bosch stuff. I think I’m only or in. Connelly is outstanding. I loved the way he wove the stories together for this one. Both were great mysteries. I have a lot of catching up to do with his catalog.

2. Excellent book. - This is my favorite Michael Connelly book in years. This was a terrific read. I could have finished reading this book in a few days but I took my time because I loved it so much and didn’t want it to end. Both Bosch and Ballard are great in this and they make a very good team here. I like that there is more than one case being investigated. Excellent book!
2019-12-13
3. Bosch and Ballard - I love the way the author has several main cases and weaves the every night call outs into the story Another hit with this winning team. Just when I thought crusty old detective Harry was out the game, Connelly puts heavy hitter Ballard in the game and successfully refreshes the series. Excellent!
2019-11-10
4. Delightful - I surmise that, like me, many of you read several series like the Bosch series. Whether it be Child or Flynn, they have all provided enjoyment. Through the years I have found that the Bosch series continue to thrive and delight its readers while the others have become formulaic and boring. Mr Connelly provides interesting story lines and full character development. Still a joy to read.
2019-11-02
5. One of his Best - I read every Connelly book...the minute they come out. As usual, he features sophisticated plot, and this book was no different. I kept me reading, finishing it faster than I wanted. There is constant action, and best of all he succeeds where lazy detectives flailed and ignore him on a case be ends up solving. Great fun read. Go for it!
2019-10-27
6. Ballard & Bosch Do It Again - As someone who has read every single one of Michael Connelly’s books, I really love how many cases and people this one covered. Ballard already feels like a character that I’ve been reading about for years even though this is only her third book. She fits so well with Harry and Mickey and Michael does a tremendous job with the character development. The Night Fire ranks right up there with Connelly’s best.

1. It’s complicated. - I adore this writer and her great storytelling but this story just seemed so out of nowhere. In the first book I felt like Mia & Ella were really a team and this book took that a completely different direction and I really disliked that. While I enjoyed reading it and I wanted to keep reading it, there was a lot to it that made no sense. The story overall was okay, but the serial killers in this one were so out there and unbelievable it crossed the lines of fiction into ridiculous. I will read the next book in hopes it’s better than this one but so far this has been my least favorite by Blake Pierce.
2022-05-10
2. Research and editing are good - There are a fair amount of typos and editing mistakes but I’m ok with those. However I’m pages in and I can’t get past the fact that the author has obviously never been to the city the story is based in (Seattle) and didn’t bother doing much research on the area. I kept coming across place descriptions that didn’t fit with the city I live in but trying to ignore. Then the author just mentioned that Bainbridge was miles from the precinct and a ten minute drive. Umm, no. It’s an island! So it’s a minute ferry ride plus wait times etc. Or it’s at least an hour and a half to drive around the sound. Kind of bummed as I liked the first book.
2022-04-06
3. Lots of typos! But great story line - I definitely enjoy these types of books. The story had great progression of the main characters and the dynamics of both FBI agents is very interesting. I have read both book and now book in this series and plan to continue with the remaining books. I do believe, however, that whomever the editor is for this series, he/she needs to do a bit better job on the proofreading.

1. Decent book, dangling ending - This was a decent story, though that ending leaves something to be desired. I liked the last chapter and the perspective, no matter how awful it was to read. But the story seems unfinished rather than mysterious with the protagonist asserting she’s not going to ‘be another statistic….’ But then what? It just comes across messy.

2. Great then not - This thoroughly-engrossing book is ruined by a conclusion that is idiotic. Too convenient, too quick, too simple. The miraculousness of all the story’s strands coming together just in the nick of time makes deus ex machina endings look plausible. It feels like the author grew bored with her story and had to hurry up and finish so she could run off and produce a new podcast. The positive review in The NY Times is inexplicable to me.

3. A let down in the end. - Reads like it was originally a much shorter book that got padded to fill space. A lot of exposition and monologuing from characters who could have gotten it out in a chapter or less, sometimes felt like I was chewing through this book to try to push past how boring it got at times. the ending was really bad. Not a suspenseful enough ending to justify a cliffhanger, too vague and honestly uninteresting. SPOILER :ok so does she die? Does she escape? You don’t even really care by the end because the interest is just gone. just an unfinished book. The twists are fun and interesting, but the ending really ruins the whole thing. Disappointed. Feels like the reviews are perhaps biased to the authors non-writing fan base.

4. Entertaining but embarrassingly unoriginal - I guess we shouldn't be shocked that Ms Flowers, no stranger to plagiarism, would lift the central crime in her novel so brazenly from a famous real life event. It's a shame, really, because her writing is workmanlike enough. But lazy is lazy, no matter the medium. Read and be entertained, but I can't help but wonder why she's not embarrassed to be such obvious.

5. Riveting mystery of a small town - A journalist for a large Indianapolis newspaper is heading back to her small hometown to care for her uncle, Luke, who’d raised her with his wife Rebecca after she’d been exposed far too long to her fathers violent alcoholism and found the love, safety and a secure childhood and life with her aunt and uncle who she’d always considered her parents and never yearned for more. When she was years old her best friend who’d lived across the street from her was murdered. The small town had suspected the mother and shunned the entire family including her twin brother who was a very troubled and odd kid. The rumors of how the little girl died and who had done it were outrageous grotesque and it was no surprise that the mother had written a suicide note and was found with a gun and wound through her head. Even after her death, the son abandoning his parents and terribly cruel town at and his daughters unsolved murder the father, Billy remained in the town. On Margot’s second day back to keep an eye on her uncle and working from home another little girl had gone missing nearly years to the days of her little friend, January’s murder that prompted the journalist to become extremely immersed into investigating January’s death, the connection between these two little girls that she had no doubt and was unwaveringly convinced they were committed by the same perpetrator and she was determined as relentless in her story, proving the missing links and filling in the blanks missing to solving this case. As her uncles dementia becomes worse, the case becomes more entangled and other little girls deaths begin to show up in other areas that had undeniable links all that Margot’s story was missing was the hard to prove FACTS connecting them all. Aside from circumstantial evidence, a strong conviction these horrendous assaults sexually physically and brutal lives snuffed out at such young innocent ages Margot was running ragged trying to cope with the decline of her uncles demise, his increasingly horrifying insinuations of his knowledge of what happened to January during his moments when his typical character and personality or what she’d assumed was his typical authentic self would be replaced by a cold hair raising stranger who made her fearful and wonder what was it her knew and could he have murdered her friend? Making her more confused were the myriad of theories opinions and gossip from the townspeople and the poor police investigation from the beginning. When she begins to make one solid connection after the next threats begin surfacing warning her to leave and having been gone for so many years from her small town that she once had such nostalgic and sweet memories of she no longer finds it as innocent and safe nor the people as compassionate or the church going kind folks she’d identified her town and it’s residents as. When the truth is revealed from her hard investigative courageous work the facts are so shocking they left me literally gobsmacked utterly dumbfounded and awed. Phenomenal twists turns sharp whiplashing in unbelievable circumstances taking readers down crazy paths to bring them to an incredulous revelation you’d never even imagined was coming. Thrilling beyond words!!!

6. Wow, just wow - I haven’t read a book for fun in at least years. But when I heard Ashley Flowers was releasing a novel I knew I had to read it and I knew it would be good. I’ve listened to Ashley since the beginning of her podcast Crime Junkie and truly believe she is THE best storyteller in the true crime genre. This novel proves she is simply one of the best storytellers in crime fiction as well. The twists and turns kept me on the edge of my seat and just when I thought I had it all figured out- I’m bamboozled again and I loved every moment. Bravo, Ashley.

7. Good…until the end - This was a good book and a quick read! I finished it in about a day. It had twist and turns and I was very intrigued! However, the ending made me think a chapter was accidentally not published. I even went back and read the ending but still came up dumbfounded. I think I can see what the author was trying to accomplish with the ending but it fell short. Hopefully there will be a sequel published soon to actually tell how the story ends.

8. GRIPPING - I couldn’t get enough of this book. It sunk its teeth into me early on and I was so engrossed in it that I barely noticed the time flying by. This is one of those books that I thought I had figured out early on, but with every other page there was a new twist or turn. I couldn’t put it down!! Highly recommend for any true crime fans.

9. WHAT? - I was ready to give this book five stars. And then…it ended. There is nothing worse than an author that leaves (spoiler alert) a main plot line unfinished. Up until then the writing had my eyebrows jumping up and down as regular as an elevator, the plot twisting and turning, an excellent read. Bad decision, author.

1. Game On - I’m a huge fan of Janet Evanovich and I particularly like the Stephanie Plum series. Unfortunately, this book though did not live up to my expectations nor her standards. It came off as tepid. Stephanie had no spark, there was barely any humor & all her old trademarks seemed to be missing. There was no mention of the history between her and “the Italian Stallion,” there was no “smelled like Christmas cookies” or reference to our “mocha latte Cuban sex god”. Her relationship with Morelli was incredibly bland—why was he not jealous of Diesel? Why when Stephanie’s B&E FTA turned into a serial killer was Ranger not on top of the situation (or her)? Where was Diesel’s history? Perhaps this has to do with the change in publishers. If so, I can understand the downplaying of Diesel’s “abilities” (although it made for fun reading, I’ve never been a huge fan), but I think they’ve gone too far. I miss our Cupcake. That said, we definitely need more Babe (and Rex)!

2. Disappointed - I’d be shocked if Janet wrote this book. All the characters were boring including my favorites Lula and grandma. They didn’t talk or act the same as they did in the other books. Even Ranger was boring. Janet needs to step it on the next one.Her loyal readers know her characters in and out.

3. Disappointed - This was not written by Janet Evanovich,,, I have read all of her Stephanie Plum books , huge mistakes: book says she drinks wine, wrong she drinks beer, she called her mother mom at the beginning, it has always been mother, and stick a fork in me, I’m done, that author got that quote from a certain tv judge
2021-12-08
4. Surprisingly disappointing - I’ve faithfully read each book of this series since , this one was just not the same. It wax nearly pages of boring. Lula was very bland and didn’t seem to fit with previous books. Strange phrase choices like “what the fork” over and over. Even Grandma didn’t cause any trouble. I’ve never been disappointed in one of these books until now. It doesn’t even feel like it was written by the same person.
2021-11-11
5. Disappointing - The previous Plum books were getting goofy, but this was just plain boring. The characters suddenly had no personality, and there was little to no humor in this one. There’s no profanity in the book, a reader who has made it this far in the Plum series obviously isn’t bothered by a little foul language. Lula saying ‘what the fork’ and ‘son of a bagel’ make it sound like this book is written for kindergartners. While I’ve loved the Plum series, these last few books make me think of sit-coms that have run their course a few seasons past.

1. Lots of guesswork with a bit of a cliffhanger - Great addition to this series. The characters were well developed and the storyline interesting. While the mystery was well plotted I felt like the main protagonists were just guessing on their suspects or possible suspects. I realize there is some of that in any investigation it seemed more prevalent in this one. Ella, Mia, and Mark - all FBI agents - are on the hunt for a serial killer who targets married family men. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

The relationship between the female protagonists is bad and their job is constantly on the line but, Ella always gets her man. 1. Girl, Forsaken - I enjoy the series, not brain food but a nice “curl up and read” evening’s entertainment. I would implore the author to PLEASE stop calling - year old persons decrepit and ancient! If I read one more character described as old, feeble, and SIXTY-TWO!! The descriptions of these characters befit a year old.

2. On the edge of my seat! - On the edge of my seat! In this next installment, we see Ella and Mia team back up to take down Tobias while also hunting another killer that’s after Ella and potentially working with Tobias to harm them. I loved that the killer that Ella was after was constantly making her (and the reader) think to figure out what was coming next, and we also see Ella rediscover her love of what she does through this as well. I also love that we see Mia determined to end this decades-long battle with Tobias, even if it means losing her own life in the process of taking his. I was shocked at the ending with Tobias and finding out that it wasn’t over for them in this book, and I’m very intrigued to see if they ever catch him!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

1. Satisfying true crime read - I love true crime and have always had a personal interest in religion and psychology, and you can certainly imagine what's behind all that happens. 1. repetitious - I am half way through the book and I swear I’m reading the same thing over and over and over! The story line from the nd and rd book keeps being mentioned! I read through the first books ready to read the third and now it’s repeating everything that already happened! I could have started on this book and knew EXACTLY what happened and skipped to the next. When does the real plot start in this book?

2. This book was bad but the author has better ones - This was a chore to read. Not including the grammatical errors, the plot was jumbled and predictable— predictable can be fine if you enjoy the journey, but for some reason I just couldn’t connect with it. The main character, in the previous installments, is pretty bland— her personality is trauma, and the narrator will not forget to remind you of it consistently. Her point of view is filled with worries, snap judgments, and superiority complex due to her intuition— interjected with thoughts about her detective partner. In the past books I was able to overlook this because I liked the authors’ writing style at times and they were easy reads. This was not. This book had two main storylines and both were uninteresting— the carryover storyline led nowhere and provided little headway/interesting or new info about her or her father’s past, just reinforced the impenetrable psycho stereotype. The second storyline is so forgettable and also insulting— this is the third time the main character had the final run-in with the killer, going in to the encounter under lax or unassuming pretenses. SO DUMB. I’m tired and not even quarantine will bore me enough to read more from this series.

3. The Perfect House - Book is the last I listened to in this series, because I got too much into my own head. The main character, since book , has gone through an horrific life starting at the age of with her father, a serial killer who attempted to kill her and is still hunting her. This alone might have broken anyone. She continues to have harrowing, near death experiences at the hands of other people. In each book. Over a few months. Story lines are too much for me to stick with, but interesting nonetheless.

4. Fairly disappointed in the recap - I’m on page and I’m just so tired of the recap. So tired to the point I stopped reading to write a review. I don’t think it’s fair to the readers that have been here since book one. Also it would be different if there were new developments or thoughts from the writer but it’s the same recap - almost word for word. It’s making it fairly difficult to get past these first few chapters. I don’t know if I’ll be reading book four if it has this extensive recap.

5. Highly recommend... - I really enjoyed the third book in the Jessie Hunt series. Despite what other reviewers said about the Author spending too much time “recapping” the previous book, I totally disagree. I like the fact that most readers can read any Blake Pierce book in any series without reading the previous book. The Perfect House did not disappoint and was full of OMG moments until the very end. I highly recommend this book and cannot wait for A Perfect Smile.

1. Good but.. - I enjoy the books in this series. This one I wouldn’t consider on edge or suspenseful until the end which was kind of a bummer as I like action packed fast paced. I can’t say too much without spoiling but the ending seemed rushed & fell flat when it came to that certain person. If you read the first then of course I’d recommend to read this one. Hopefully in the next book she finally ties up loose ends. Like who’s the general, about her father, what’s up with the warden, & can they finally get together already? Geez

2. Thriller - I really enjoy the Decker and Rockwell series. This one kept me guessing until the end. A family of is murdered but one child survives. Who killed the family and why? Can the desire for revenge override your survival instinct? Deck and Olivia work together to try and figure out this mystery. Just a touch of romance. Great cast of characters. Well written. I received an Advance Reader Copy in exchange for an honest review and this is my honest review.

1. Enjoyed!!!!! - My Review:
Loved!!!!! This one made me want to hug my family even tighter at night and never let them go. I want to start off by saying that this could definitely be made into a great psychological thriller movie. It had all the right components. It had great characters, storyline and one heck of an ending. Once I started this one I just couldn’t put it down. As each chapter went on I had to find out more and more. I had to know who done it and why. This book is part of a series but can be read as a stand alone. I have read them myself out of order and have had no issues understanding any one of them. I also want to say how much I love this series. The main reason is because all the detectives mesh so well together. They act so much more like a family rather than just work colleagues that have to get along with each. It made me want to be part of their family and have what they have. Carla Kovach you have outdone yourself once again. I can’t wait to read more of your books. In conclusion, the plot, the characters and all the twists in this book made this book an enjoyable read. I would definitely recommend it and happily give it Hearts

2. A gripping thriller that doesn't let you go! - I read The Next Girl and had to put it down several times because my heart was pounding and it was no different for The Final Hour, I pre-ordered the book as soon as I finished the first one. Harte is a strong female lead character that stops at nothing to get the job done. I admire this character and her independence. Carla leaves out no details and paints a vivid picture of every scene in the book with her writing.

1. On the edge of my seat! - On the edge of my seat! In this next installment, we see Ella and Mia handle the aftermath with Tobias and what happens next. Ella decides to give an old flame another shot, despite Tobias still being out there, and she also reluctantly takes another case with the agency that involves a new partner since Mia is in the hospital. Like the previous book, after solving her latest case, it seems that Tobias has set his sights on Ella instead of Mia and uses her flame to draw her out. While the case in the book is good, I’m more hanging on for them catching Tobias and putting that case to rest, and while I thought it was going to happen in this book, it seems we will have to wait for another installment. I voluntarily read and reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book.

2. Fast paced! - Girl Trapped Very exciting and fast-paced entry! Ella takes on the role of mentor to a rookie agent while Mia recovers from her recent battle with escaped serial killer, Tobias Campbell. Ella and the rookie follow a very disturbed killer who almost gets the best of them before they are able to cuff him. When Ella gets back home, she tells Mia about her plans with Ben, which leads to unexpected consequences for everyone.

1. Okay.. - Good series, but I was waiting for Addie and Marc to end up together so it was a huge disappointment that they didn’t. I just think the characters really fit and understand each other so it seemed clear that they should have ended up together. Love all the twists and turns with each murder in each book, keeps you on your toes.

2. Will need to add more to my TBR pile! - Proof of Murder is the fourth in this series, but I can happily say if one has not read any of the others, one will not feel as if they are lost. The author does a good job of making sure the reader knows the characters well enough to be able to follow along with the plot. The plot revolves around murder of a woman insurance appraiser who was inside a locked room, with the windows pretty much sealed. Addie Greybourne and her cousin were one of the last ones in the room, and Addie is also one who had been appraising some rare books; one such book was worth around a hundred and fifty thousand dollars...a rare Sherlock Holmes story. Addie is shocked to find she is on the short list for the theft of some of the rare books, and even more shocked that the one accusing her is her former boyfriend. As Addie searches for clues to help clear her name, she is also faced with the fact that the mansion that was the site of the thefts may also be haunted. Local legends has her doubting her skepticism; especially when she believes she herself has seen a ghost. The story had some tension, and red herrings that had me pushing towards the end with both anticipation, and dread, not sure if I wanted to know what happens next, but also anxious to find out who did it. My emotions were taken for an exciting ride as I read this book, turning each page with heart pumping exhilaration. I have to admit to also feeling some pretty strong feelings towards her former boyfriend, and they were not the positive kind. But, that says something about the writing by this author that she could produce such feelings from me towards a fictional character. I also really enjoyed the main character, and her new boyfriend, and look forward to a future book that continues the relationship. I do not know how the previous books portrayed them, but then, I guess I will just have to research that in the previous novels. I will probably be spending some of my book money on this author’s three other books in the series. In the meantime, I recommend this book for those who are cozy mystery fans as it has all the right elements. It has good strong characters, especially the female protagonist, and a mystery that has you guessing, but also realizing you had all the clues once the final reveal is there.

1. Not a Twist, Felt Lazy, Slow Plot - I bought this book because of the reviews. The thought of a great plot twist and an intense mystery keeping me up into the night was exciting! Unfortunately it is not the first time I have been hit by the Bestseller effect, and have been left annoyed. It was probably only ever a bestseller because of how well the Author was known from other works. Honestly, the twist wasn’t a twist at all. I kept hoping a good ending would be worth the poor (or entire lack of) character development and slow plot, but sadly it was not the case. In addition, the story seemed unoriginal through and through. The author seemed to try to make up for the lack of plot with sex or sex related scenes, which to me is just lazy writing. In truth, the unhealthy habits of our protagonist (if she can be called that) and that of CHILDREN in the story just left the reader feeling dirty. Certain minor characters could have been more developed, but what do you expect when the main character wasn’t developed. I understand to an extent that is what the Author was going for, a woman broken by her horrible circumstances, struggling to make good choices. However, with the mystery narrowed down to characters within the first chapters, no one left to root for, and the Author pushing unnecessary disturbing imagery (not in a way that relates to the plot), I wish I had not spent my money or time in this book.

2. Excellent - Absolutely loved this book. I thought the story was beautifully told and on top of the great writing style that makes you want to keep reading, the ending isnt something you are just waiting for. The ENTIRE story is great. Thought the TV show did it SOME justice, did’t like what they changed in the show but the acting, setting and direction was great. Book was GREAT and the show was also, but personally prefer the book to the show.

3. Not as impressed as I thought - I am typically interested in these types of books and was very excited to read Sharp Objects because of the great reviews I’ve heard/read. Unfortunately, I kept waiting for the book to get “good” as I read. I felt like the only exciting part of the book that everyone wants to read didn’t occur until the last pages or so.

4. Chilling - Honestly, this is the first book I almost put down. I actually had to take a mental break from the darkness. After telling myself that a good book cannot go unfinished, I continued. I’m so glad I did. Challenging the darkest parts of humanity, Sharp Objects keeps readers invested (even if that investment is painful at times) and curious.

5. My review on Sharp objects - I have given this book five stars because I personally really liked it, and it was the first book I was able to finish in a long while. I also enjoyed the characters and how well they were portrayed in the book. Gillian Flynn really knew how to depict each scene perfectly, too. Because each scene from the book was as if I was watching a movie or a show. And yes, I do know that Sharp Objects is also a show on HBO, and I like both the show and the book and finish both of them. But that brings me to my point where there were times I imagined a scene from the book and was so convinced it was, in fact, a scene from the HBO tv series because of how well I envisioned it in my head. For instance, there was one particular scene I read when Allen Crellin (the father of Camille and Amma) was sitting at the table in the morning and eating egg yolks in a bowl with a spoon. As to why he was eating raw eggs, I don’t know? But that scene in the book was so vivid and so imaginative in my head I thought for certain that I have seen that particular scene from the show itself.

6. If you love the series, you’ll love this book - I went backwards — I saw the HBO series with one of my all-time favorites, Amy Adams, before I read the book. I knew the plot and I still couldn’t put it down. Gillian Flynn did it to me with her other two and now she’s done it again. This book will hook you from beginning to end and since it’s so short, you can finish it in a few days. I really love how the end of her show/movie are different from the book endings. Really sparks a debate!
2019-01-26
7. Dumb - It’s a dumb story that isn’t well written. I only finished the book because I held out hope they would make this story into an HBO series because it was good, somehow. Sadly, I wasted my time. The ending is obvious and frankly insulting to my intelligence. Read if you want to complain about a book.
2019-01-09
8. A good read! - This may be the only book that I like less than its TV adaptation. However, I still think it’s a fine book, especially if you enjoy books that are on the darker side. The protagonist is complex yet strangely endearing despite the fact that she’s deeply troubled. Overall, I’d recommend Sharp Objects to anyone!
2018-12-21
9. Pretentious, boring, predictable. - The writing is so tedious and amateur I found physically myself cringing every page or two. I also knew how it was going to end by page when the author basically spells it out for you in bold letters. I also have to say: Flynn’s copious and irrelevant descriptions of young teenage girls’ body parts really bothered me in this. It took a turn for the bizarre when I realized they weren’t necessary at all for character development, plot, or gaining an understanding of how the narrator thinks—WHY would she be thinking that way literally any time she sees a young girl? They started to sound more like the author speaking and less like the narrator (Camille). You don’t need to describe a girl’s every body part, down to her “downy” “coltish” legs and what kind of bra she’s wearing, every time you introduce one into the scene or refer back to her. It borders on obsession, and made me embarrassed and uncomfortable for the author.

1. Disappointing! - I’m a loyal fan of Box work…..but, I expected much more in this latest Cassie story. The plot and conclusion were evident early on. Like the most recent Pickett effort, this lacked imagination. Box’s politics came through, too! I wish fiction writers would keep their opinions to themselves. You’ve been warned!

2. And once again. - Never tire and usually surprised. C. J. Box has kept me busy reading since first coming across “Open Season” in a local writers section at Borders bookstore, sadly gone now, in Billings, Montana. If you enjoy a great story that also reveals the good side of rural living and not so good side of local and federal bureaucracy you should like “Treasure State”.

3. Treasure State - Liked how it brought April into the story. At under pages, it is a very short read, and realistically it should be priced accordingly. Cassie’s character is worthy of a longer story line. I’m a dedicated C.J. Box fan and I’ve read all his books and can’t wait for the next Pickett release, so I feel I can pass on this critique.

1. Disappointed - I’m disappointed in the way this series is going. I normally can’t put one of her books down, finish it in - days. But this one just dragged on. The only good part was Bella. This will probably be my last Plum book I read. Such a shame because most of the series will make you laugh your butt off.

2. Going Rogue - I love all the Stephanie Plum books! I hope they go on for a while longer. All the trouble she finds herself in does give me pause, but unlike her mother I don’t drink to cope. I prefer to just yell at the drama!! I hope to read that she chooses her man and he pops the question! I think it would also make sense for her to get additional training to better handle all the turmoil she gets into. Janet, please keep this series going!!

1. Not thrilled - Mediocre plot with no mystery or intrigue. The four viewpoints of the main characters add nothing to the storyline. This story feels like it should be set in some small Midwestern town rather than a big San Francisco/Las Vegas investigation. Also of the investigation is missing key information the reader wants to know.

1. Love the Series - I love the series. I think it’s brilliant. I get frustrated because the stories are a little predictable, yet I always know I am going to be glad that I continued to read! Well done Karla!! I would recommend this series to anyone who has been reading mysteries and thrillers for years, and would like a series change.
