1. Wonderful twists and turns! - The Bitter Season by Tami Hoag is the latest Kovac and Liska novel. Liska has transferred to the new Cold Case Unit (funded with a half a million-dollar grant) in Minneapolis, Minnesota to have regular hours and spend more time with her two sons. After going through hundreds of files the new unit meets to discuss their first case. Gene Grider (a retired detective) has come back to the cold case unit with an agenda. He wants the first case they work on to be the Ted Duffy case. Ted Duffy was an officer who was killed on the job twenty-five years previously. Grider is very determined (and a misogynist). The boss decides it will be the first case, but Liska will work it (a new set of eyes and since Grider did not solve it the first time around). Grider is not thrilled and goes out of his way to make things difficult for Nikki Liska. Sam Kovac misses his old partner, Nikki Liska. Kovac is on his third partner in three months. His latest is Michael Taylor (a fledgling homicide detective). Kovac’s latest case is the death of Dr. Lucien Chamberlain and his wife. They were murdered (in a gruesome fashion) with a Japanese sword from Dr. Chamberlain’s collection. Who wanted to kill this professor and his wife? Nikki Liska dives into her case. However, it seems like the Duffy family does not seem to really want the case solved. No one will answer questions. Liska is relentless in her pursuit of closing this case especially when she discovers that her case and Kovac’s are connected. Someone is not telling the truth. Liska and Kovac will have to work through the secrets and lies to reveal the killer. The Bitter Season was just wonderful. I did not want to put this book down! There were so many wonderful twists and turns (I just loved it). The mystery was complicated and not easy to solve (but I did). I enjoyed how this mystery was revealed to the reader. There is an overabundance of foul language in the book (which I did not enjoy). The Bitter Season is well-written, fast paced, and has great characters. The Bitter Season can be read if you have not enjoyed the previous books in the series (I have not read other books in this series). I give The Bitter Season out of stars. I cannot wait for the next book in the Kovac and Liska series. I received a complimentary copy of The Bitter Season from NetGalley in exchange for an honest evaluation of the book.

1. Why? - Why do I think that the next Baldachi book will be better than the last one I read? Years go by and then a new Baldachi book is released I think, that sounds pretty good. But, nothing changes. Just a good story line that is interrupted by events & clues that come out of nowhere. This will definitely be my last!

2. Couldn’t Figure This One Out - I kinda leaned a certain way about some potential killers but there were just to many twists and turns to feel any comfort about WHO DUNNIT or who I thought did it. I was about thinking I was close to the end of the book when I noticed I still had pages to go. That kept me reading all day and into the wee hours of the night, falling asleep and getting up early this morning to finish one of the most fun books I have read in a long time. PLUS , I love the character Amos Decker. Hey David, can’t wait until you do another Memory Man. I hope you do as well!!

3. Long Shadows - I have to say, this book has kept my emotions in a spin from the first chapter. From laughing out loud to sobbing with grief, David Baldacci has written about a character that has more depth than a lot of characters in books. This book is kind of exhausting to read because of all the tiny clues you’re given to follow-whether you realize it was a clue or not! Loved this book and will wait patiently for the next one.

4. Long Shadows - Another outstanding story with Amos Decker and a new partner, Freddie White. Can’t wait to read more about these two in future stories. Just love the way Decker cuts to the chase and solves the toughest cases despite the FBI politics! Have to laugh out loud when reading his right on point responses to his bosses- hilarious!

5. Long shadows David Baldacci - Multiple deaths, multiple clues initially leading no where.Decker and his new partner are slowly forming a bond. Amos is not easy to predict but eventually they click as a team. Another excellent read, typical of this author!! Enjoyed immensely!! My highest recommendation!!

1. Worst In the In Death series…. - I agree with an earlier comment, from the very beginning this book doesn’t read like the normal In Death books. The dialogue was off for all of the characters. Definitely lacked the depth that normally comes with these stories. Love the series and this won’t keep me from reading them in the future, but this book was very disappointing, hard to finish.

2. Encore in Death - I just finished this book and like all the In Death books it was difficult to put down. However, the plot of this book was a tangle of too many characters and too many twists. I also got lost in all those twists and turns and it seemed each page brought out another character. Who was a friend of Eliza’s and who was an enemy? Rarely do I look at the page number and rarely do I count the number of pages left to read. But I found myself counting the pages in this book so I know it wasn’t one of my most favorite novels of Eve Dallas and of course Roarke. There wasn’t enough Summerset and Roarke. Too many other characters to muddle up the plot. And what was the point of the plot? I really don’t care about how a play is written or who was in the play so there could have been less characters and less explanation of this play or any of the prior plays. I sat through les Miserables several years ago and that was hours of my life I’ll never get back. I wanted to kill myself before it was finally over. This book brought it all back. So, no this was not a favorite J.D. Robb novel. But it was interesting and filled an evening. I could only rate it stars because it had too many characters and talked of too many plays. Boysmumas

3. My favorite series! - Great story as usual, have read all her books,in the last couple of years have started downloading to my IPhone and IPad.I read my fist book many years ago,I was looking at books in the Sam’s I was working at in Dallas,Tx.When I was reading about the book I saw the name Dallas and it intrigued me,I bought it and started reading that night,I was hooked on the story.I started looking for all of the previous books and managed to collect all of them.I have never been disappointed .I look forward to each new story and when I know the date, mark it on my calendar,I also like her Nora Robert’s books too,I like all of the the characters in her stories, after reading these books for so long it feels like I know them all,it’s so hard to put it down when you start reading it,I just finished and it’s am!

4. Encore in death - Released today. Read today. Put it on my Calendar. I really needed this book at this time. Wish it was longer. Took me an rainy afternoon in early Feb here in rural NE TX to buy and read it. It’s my favorite escape mechanism when i need one. JD Robb is Nora Roberts is my fav author who writes my favorite series. I’ve read every In Death book. They are all good easy reads that engross you, take you straight to Dallas and Roark along with all their friend/work group. They are all my friends now, too.

1. Fiction or nonfiction? - I really liked the Bosch series on television. So when I saw this book, I thought well this should be good. But I was confused. The author was writing about current events in this book. So he was mixing fiction with non-fiction. But of course, his non-fiction musings were from a political perspective. I don’t like reading fictional books that are virtue signaling which I felt this book did. It was a pretty good storyline other than that.

2. Worst Connelly book EVER - Don't waste you money on this mess of a book. Very poorly written, tedious reading of repetitive plots, implausible characters...I had to struggle to finish it. And spoiler alert, the end is depressing and grim. Harry Bosch is dying. I wish I'd never read this book. Michael Connelly needs to retire. Enough!
2023-02-13
3. End of an Era - Good story as usual from Connelly but frankly not his best work. Most interesting is the winding down of the Harry Bosch saga. Have been following Bosch for yrs and enjoyed it immensely. Seeing him aging and sick is sad yet satisfying. Everybody counts or nobody counts. That about says it. Hope to see Harry one more time for a proper goodbye.
2023-01-17
4. Connelly never disappoints - While adding to Renee Ballard’s profile, Michael weaves the best of everything that is Bosch. By far his best ever, I am saddened to think Harry is coming to an end. All of his works grab you from the start and leave you breathless by the end. Thank you for the pleasure of reading another one of your masterpieces.

5. Bosch is slowing down - Characters are great as usual. The cold cases are interesting but a little slow. Liked Idaho panhandle references as I am a transplant from California. Indeed many retired police officers live here. Always a fan. Hope to read future Bosch books. Like to see more Lincoln lawyer also.

6. Another great read - I read this book after a series of similarly themed books in this genre by other authors. It reminded me again how a brilliant author can engage the reader with sufficient detail to create tension, excitement, anticipation and entertainment without bogging down the pace of the story or losing the complexity of the characters. Connelly is the best there is at it.

1. Five Stars Plus! - If only I could give more stars. Engaging from the first sentence and builds from there. The characters leap off the page and demand attention. The story line stays true with twists you can see coming and those you didn't see coming. The dogs' personalities also shine through. Enjoy.

2. Lost Sleep over Lost Creed - Alex Kava has a way of gripping your soul so tightly that at times you realize you're holding your breath or your heart is hammering out of your chest. This book, Lost Creed, answered so many questions about his sister. I've waited for these answers for years and I'm thankful for the closure. Now we need a happy ending for Ryder and Maggie! Thank you for the amazing research that goes into each book. You are my favorite author and I can't wait to see what comes next. Melanie

1. David Baldacci knows how to write thrillers - I’ve been reading a lot of thriller authors lately and I came across him under the b section in book stores but I never read him though. (Big Dan brown fan) His books normally seemed about politics. But I decided to give it a shot. And . . . IT WAS AWESOME! The book kept going at breakneck pace and he made Amos Decker seem so real. but the only real thing I would ding this books on is that it kept getting darker as it went on. But still it was awesome.
2022-04-16
2. Memory Man - Thrilling from beginning to end. The personal struggles that Decker has to endure and now all the nightmares truly come back to haunt him. Only he and his brain can make the connections that no one else can. Wire to wire the most thrilling book and it’s needs Decker! You won’t be able to put this down!

3. Finally found what I was looking for. - I never have time to read. I randomly stumbled on this book one night and thought I would just read the first few pages to kill time, I was instantly hooked. The author does an amazing job painting a picture with his descriptions and keeps you wanting more the entire time. I have nothing bad to say about this book.Highly recommend!!!! On to the nd book

4. Awesome Read ! - This was a great read from a great author. Imagine a personal life changing event that leads to murder and mayhem. Imagine that you now have an eidetic memory and see things in color. Imagine you're a cop with all this. Now you have the setting for a great piece of fiction. This book will keep you hooked from beginning to end.

5. One of Baldacci’s Best - I’m a long-time fan…read nearly every Baldacci book…King and Maxwell are enjoyable characters, depending which book...really love John Puller character, in every book…But Amos Decker is just as likable, if not more so! And Dekker’s reflection style – random clipped thought – is a refreshing character attribute. Loved it!

6. What a BIG Surprize! - An usually bland opening that in no way will prepare the reader for the intricate maze of "incidents", characters, and unsuspected twists. Each relatively short chapter can be summarized as a logical, yet low keyed, extension of the previous chapter. Action builds to a higher intensity--ending with just the right hook to pull, drive and/or lead you into the next chapter. The majority of the characters have a rough edge that smoothes and becomes family. The main character retains a consistency of skill, knowledge, intuition, and facts that leads the puzzle pieces into place from almost a three dimensional route. These are characters I hope to see/read more of. Please take the time to make the next episode as great as this. Thanks for a great read! Caution...if you have an important task to complete, you may wish to finish that first, for you will find yourself reading this for the pure pleasure.

7. Another great one by a story master - As all David Baldacci books this is no different and does not disappoint. As always he keeps you turning pages and wondering where this might just end up. It twists and turns and you have no idea whats really going on until the last few chapters. Can't wait to read more in this series.
2015-09-12
8. Memory Man - Without having read many whodunnits lately, the plot line could not be more far-fetched. The text references "In Cold Blood" a couple of times, and while there could be comparisons of the types of do-ers, Capote's work is far superior. I wanted it to end a lot sooner than it did. I do not understand the other gushing reviews. The research was done, and Baldacci seems to be a capable writer, but the story lost my interest with too many unlikely directions.

1. Wordy and how! - The plot was good. The story was good. I was exhausted every time I would read a chapter because the author went on and on and on about irrelevant details. I will not read any more of her books because trying to get to the meat of the story was like fighting your way out of a bank vault with a plastic spoon.
2023-02-19
2. Gripping page turner - Very intense, a real page turner that may cause you to lose some sleep! It is disturbing, almost sick, definitely not for the faint of heart or anyone that may be triggered by sexual violence. I honestly don’t like reading that stuff but I had to find out what happened so I kept reading it. It is a good one that will stick with you.
2022-09-03
3. It’s really not that gory… - This is a decent novel. Lots of twists; some very predictable, some that really throw you off. As far as the explicit content, it did not bother me at all. Maybe I’m extremely desensitized, but I didn’t read anything that really merited the reviews of how disturbing the descriptions are. On a scale of -, being the most stomach churning gore, I’d say it’s about a .
Some cons are, the pacing in the first - pages is like trudging thru mud and took some effort to stay interested, but then it starts unfolding fast after that. And it’s not the most original storyline. Otherwise, it’s fine.
2022-01-06
4. Suddenly graphic, but doesn’t get any worse - Really well written book! Tread carefully, because there’s graphic descriptions of extreme sexual violence towards women in this book. The first instance comes out of no where, but if you can handle the first time it’s described, it really doesn’t get worse as the book goes on. I really enjoyed this book and will be reading more from this author!
2021-09-09
5. Suspenseful!!! - Great read! I could not put it down. The story kept me wanting to read just one more chapter and then just one more chapter. I was disturbed by the violence halfway through the book, and wanted to stop reading, but I wanted to find out what would happen in the end for retribution, so I kept reading. I loved the mystery and suspense of the story. The characters were believable. It was my first read by Karin Slaughter. Well done. Great job!
2021-05-29
6. Spoilers! - Very good book although I would change one thing. The murder in the book dies and in my head it would have been better had Claire outsmarted him, tortured him and instead of killing him he gets arrested and spends his life in jail. I wanted him to comment on how what she did (the fire/gun/surprised him with the burner phone location) was unexpected and how she always kept him guessing and that’s why she was different and he really did love her. Overall a very good book with some twists and things I couldn’t guess. I wish there was a bit of an unspoken romance between Claire and the FBI agent also. I wanted him to come off as a bit of a safe place or savior and his position was sort of unclear until the end. I wanted her to still not trust him but for him to be trustworthy to the reader.
2021-02-02
7. Incredible Thriller But Also Incredible Violence - This book was an absolute page turner. I couldn’t wait to find out what was going to happen next. Really well written and just an awesome thriller. BUT, if you’re at all uneasy with violence against women, this is not a book for you. The depictions the author laid out were vivid, graphic and gut-wrenching. Very disturbing-you’ll need a strong stomachs to not let some of the subject matter affect you.

1. What a Let Down - From the authors: “First: thank you for reading this book. Second: our apologies for what is, at least in part, an inconclusive ending.” It’s not inconclusive; it’s unfinished; it’s half a book. Absolutely nothing ties together, and it reads like a random brainstorming session potentially with mind altering substances involved. Unless you’ve died, why release an unfinished work? For true fans on the Pendergast series, you will be disappointed - wait for the actual conclusion to be released before starting this book .
2023-03-05
2. The Cabinet of Dr. Leng - I would have thought better of these esteemed and well established authors to finish (or half-finish) a book with a sophomoric “TBC”….. I would rather have waited and been treated to the Full Monty at a later date. Now one gets to pony up twice for what should have been one novel.
2023-02-23
3. Weakest book by the writers. - I have been a fanatic reader of everything written by Preston & Child - this was the most uneven of their collaborations. I went from struggling to read some sections to being unable to put down the next section. The worse thing was the non-ending - ending. Very unsatisfying.
2023-02-08
4. Unethical - Author is unethical and money grubbing. I have zero issue reading a book series, just tell before I buy the book. If you have to apologize at the end of the book, you’ve done something wrong. Sorry I took $ out of your wallet, I wanted it more than you. Hopefully by the time the next book comes out, I’ll have forgotten about this book.
2023-01-28
5. Disappointing is putting it mildly! - What a huge DISAPPOINTMENT! Boring with a capital B!! I wish I had never wasted my time on this. And to top it off the story had no conclusion and the ending will be revealed in the next book! This was a waste of my time and money. If I decide to read the next book I’ll be getting it from my local library. Did the editor even bother to read the book?
2023-01-28
6. Disappointed - The authors already foreshadow that this is the end of the series, but the dangling end is a very poor excuse. They should've withheld publication of this title and finished writing the closure before publishing. The Cabinet of Dr. Leng implies resolution of the many plots of the series, but the authors seem to just want to milk another book. Again, disappointing....
2023-01-25
7. At Their Best - I sooo look forward to reading these books. This did not disappoint!! I don’t mind the cliff hanger. That just lets me know there will be another. This book is outstanding! I have found that authors with book series start to water down the main character and you don’t even recognize who they are over the years. This is not the case with this series and I LOVE IT! Pendergast is just as quirky and intelligent, as he is in the very first book of his series.
2023-01-21
8. Disappointed - I feel cheated. I paid $. for a book and only received half a book. It just leaves you hanging and you have to buy the next book to find out how the story concludes. I think this will be the last Preston-Child book I will buy. They are just not believable. I liked them much better when Pendergast was chasing serial murderers.

1. Fan gone - I was excited to hear that there was a new book in . I couldn’t believe I missed it, but then again, it was . However, after reading reviews, I have decided not to purchase. Many of the reviews say that Connelly intertwines his political views into the storyline. I don’t care what side of the fence you’re on, keep it out of the entertainment. We want to read a story, not hear opinions or read insults to others. You lost a fan MC.
2022-07-12
2. Author has “jumped the shark” - Too bad the story line had to include the author’s political views on current events at the time of the writing of this novel. Especially because the “news” agency promoted as credible in the novel (CNN), has turned out to be thoroughly corrupt, from top to bottom in the organization. I have enjoyed reading over ten of michael Connelly’s books up to now. Fascinating details, great character development, seemingly wonderful insight to the legal system. But the subject matter concerning the Los Angeles narrative has lost all its allure, in my opinion. Harry Bosch and michael haller are destined to pursue mask mandates and vagrant littering issues in the future. No bail, catch and release, police defunding are all policies that will submerge the true aim of law enforcement and prosecution for many years to come. This reader has now “let go”. Good bye, guys.
2022-02-27
3. Terrible ending - The book started slow and finally picked up a third or halfway through. I was expecting a grand finish, but it was disappointing and a let down when the charges were dropped with no resolution, evidence, or rational reasoning other than “FBI investigation.” A little unbelievable. I don’t care about Connelly’s political views, so was surprised to read about them in the book. Initially, it was annoying because it added no value to the story and I didn’t see the point of why it was included, but after harping on it several times in the book it actually detracted from the storyline and likely influenced why I didn’t like the ending. There are better books out there.
2021-12-19
4. Not so fast - I really did enjoy the book until you made false statements. Unfortunately you chose to discredit our president. I remember specifically when our president was addressing the nation regarding the China virus. At that time he admitted they knew little about the virus and stated, with Dr Fauci at his side, that maybe it would be gone in a few week. He did not want to alarm people and they would share more as they were working with the WHO and the CDC. Dr Fauci said there was no need for masks. The president was relying on Fauci's expertise. Later he was told the virus could be serious and people in China were dying. He closed off travel and the media called him a racist.
2021-08-24
5. The Law of Innocense - This seemed like the author was in a hurry to finish the book. The antagonist was not developed at all. His name was brought up, but the reader never got to meet him or see his evil characteristics. The girlfriend from Hawaii was a wasted character. Nothing about her advanced or enhanced the movement of the plot. This was a weak effort: same old same old.
2021-07-03
6. Stick to what you do best - I have loved every Connelly book until now. Reading good fiction is an escape. I was on board until jury selection. The Trump reference was derogatory and not necessary to the story. Haller making a note of a potential juror being a Trump supporter and therefore not worthy is insulting and just not relevant. Connelly is a successful writer and producer and doesn’t need to pander to the left or right to sell a story.
2021-02-15
7. Politics - Connelly unfortunately made his political leanings well known and in his attempt to ridicule and demean “Trumpers”, the book became less of a story and more of a political statement.
His subtle jabs added nothing to the storyline and was unnecessary.
Yes, finished the book and it was okay but then maybe my take is because he tainted the story midway.
2021-02-04
8. Great legal manual, poor murder mystery - I think the author “borrowed” this legal exercise from a real case, then tried to fit a thin and poorly designed murder story to it. The triad is very interesting to read. The murder story itself is preposterous. A lawyer shoots a former client in his own car in his garage for a nine year old debt? Seriously?
2021-02-02
9. Excellent!! - Excellent Read! In true Connelly fashion, kept me on the edge of my seat. Had to ration my reading or I would have finished it in a weekend! Looking forward to the next Mickey Haller adventure! I have read all of the Lincoln Lawyer books and most of the Bosch series, love them all. A huge fan!
2021-01-19
10. Excellent As Always - After reading a few negative reviews I was a bit put off, but then chose to read this book and decide for myself. I have read Michael Connelly for many years and he never disappoints! This novel certainly did not disappoint. It is well written, and the information about news events and the pandemic lend reality. We live in difficult times!
2021-01-04
11. Can't Recommend - Have read so many Michael Connelly books that I really enjoyed, so this one was so disappointing. The drama was forced, the narration in the audio book was just awful, and simply not enough depth and intrigue. If I had a quarter for every "your honor, this is not fair", I could take a short vacation. The legal action was not realistic and overly simplistic. Just missed on this one, a real shame.

12. Purple peanuts - Do you ever see something in the toilet and you think it’s a purple peanut but it’s actually just a giant poop nugget? I have this experience all the time and therefore it makes me feel unsafe. My friends Think that I am the most beautiful in the world. But I look like a hairless cat. I eat with baby spoons and eat baby food. I am a baby. Sometimes I rip my teeth out and then bleed I love sticking my hands in succulent plants. I also love popping pimples on my grandma’s face!!!!!!!!!!
2020-12-30
13. Cowbells, not politics - It takes a special kind of cluelessness to decide that what Americans want right now is more political opinion and polarization. Yet the author - who is typically a strong favorite of mine - decided to go there. Less politics - More cowbells. (Google “SNL cowbells” if the reference escapes you).
2020-12-26
14. Hard to swallow - The plot of this story is far-fetched and very unlikely. This book is a slap in the face to law enforcement and the judicial system. It’s also sad that the author couldn’t resist getting political. He insults at least half of his readers. I’ve been reading his books for almost thirty years. I won’t be reading anymore. I’m done with this author.
2020-12-10
15. Stickey Mickey - This story was great but I felt as though I had read it already. How could I, since we are still in with COVID- still raging around us? As always I enjoyed the storytelling from Mr. Connelly. It would have been nice to have gotten more investigation material presented but is it possible that FBI agent Ruth has a her own story coming to us in the future?
In any case, it was interesting to hear and feel what a person goes through while incarcerated. Definitely never want to wish that experience on anyone innocent. Justice is never perfect as this story attests to. Still very much worth reading.

1. Not MC's best - I'll be honest, this book wasn't up to his usual standards. The writing felt very impersonal, the two plot lines didn't really mesh, it was like hopping from one book to another, and way too much time was spent talking about roads in LA...totally a waste of words if you don't live there.
2017-01-31
2. Great to have Harry back - It's always fun to read a new Harry Bosch book but this one is particularly good. Harry is in a good situation in his life and has found a niche that allows to to carry on his mission without always fighting against his superiors. It's a refreshing and hopeful story and it's nice to find Harry happy.
2017-01-06
3. WRONG SIDE OF THE NATION - I’ve been reading Michael Connelly’s books since his first when he was living in FL. He has always been Anti-Law Enforcement, which initially I took as his way of thinking he was appealing to the general audience who will 'hate cops' bc they rightfully got a ticket. I like his style of writing…..keeping the dialoge, detail, action and suspence flowing…..even though his facts have not always been right. Having lived in CALIFORNIA for years, watching this beautiful vibrant state deteriorate due to the unfettered ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION at the hands of the Liberal-Progressives (Democrats) who now run this SANTUARY STATE, I have to say that this will be the last Connelly book I read. He has a home here now hobnobbing with the elitist Hollywood Crowd and he has no idea that these Hispanic invaders are destoying the border states as well as American’s culture, economics and sovereignty! All of his liberal misgivings pour out in this book giving a false picture of how great the Mexicans are for California. As someone who was born here I must say that the Mexicans coming here have made it difficult for those of us who are here proudly as Americans. They don't want to assimilate or speak English. The majority of them are on government assistance. The author's glorification of this “Fruit Basket” Los Angeles lifestyle is masking the barrios in Southern California and up the coastline now affecting San Francisco Bay areas to Sacramento. I have moved from southern to northern California and plan to move out of California in the very near future. Connelly’s injection of his political views reflected through out his works has culminated in his all out pitch for HILLARY in this last book, published in October , just before the ELECTIONS!! The author and this book are getting Stars and a short GOODBYE from me.

4. Harry Bosch does it again! - Another excellent book from the inventor of Harry Bosch. A tight intertwined plot with lots of twists and turns sees the experienced detective solve two separate cases each of which impacts on his ability to focus on the other. His relationship with his daughter is further developed but it's time for Harry to find a love interest!

5. The Wrong Side of Goodbye - Outstanding book! I enjoyed reading this latest Bosch mystery, and thought it was great! I've read every one of this author's books, and cannot put them down. I thought both cases, the SFPD Screen Cutter rapist, and the private investigation to find an heir were interesting, and both had surprising twists. I'm glad society is more accepting of single mothers, alternative lifestyles, and wish there were more people like Bosch willing to search for truth and justice regardless of the fallout.

1. Unnecessarily Descriptive - Book , In the Woods was fantastic; so I kept going. The Likeness took me longer to read than any book in my life. Great story, but the drawn out over description and analyzing of characters and their thoughts was incredibly boring. I had to walk away from this book several different times and make myself continue on just to finish it. I thought it would never end and was grateful when it finally did.

2. The author CLEARLY based her characters on the characters in “The Secret History” by Donna Tartt - As the title notes, the structure of the student “family” is a clear riff on the earlier work by Pulitzer Prize winner, Donna Tartt. That said, it’s rather a nice homage to the original concept, although the plot gets muddled in places.

3. Soooooo slow and stupid plot line - I had a lot of problems with this book. First, the basic plot was a ridiculous stretch. Seriously, someone is replaced by someone else and her roommates (at least most of them) don't even notice? Second, our heroine, a hard-nosed detective, gets completely enamored of this group of flighty immature students. Doesn't seem realistic. In terms of the writing, I found it to be excruciatingly slow and way too wordy. I only finished reading it because I spent $. on it, but don't make the same mistake I did. Reread something by Raymond Chandler instead.

4. Agonizingly Slow - Loved Tana French’s first book, In The Woods. While I figured out who dunnit, was excited to read the ending. This book was soooo in your head, touchy feely and maudlin that while it was obvious who the major suspects were, I really didn’t care who dunnit. And not particularly interested in the victim. The premise requires a lot of buy in, which didn’t seem likely. Also, I had no empathy for any of the characters, all are “off.” There are no winners here, no sense of accomplishment, no examples of clever police work. I was on a long and dull part of a road trip, and just wanted to finish the book before the end of the road. Not sure if I will read any more in the series, started the next book sample and didn’t continue.

5. The Likeness - I loved In The Woods, and The Likeness is a great story as well. I would recommend both books to readers. That said, Likeness was a little difficult to read in spots. I found myself often having to search for quotation marks to comprehend between current dialogue and background dialogue she constantly provided. For example, a character would be asked a question, and it would be answered pages later! It got to be too much, but still I muddled thru it to the end.

6. Just... don't. - It has the consistency of a short story that had been watered down to a novel. Three out of every five sentences should have been striked. This made the reading excruciating. Writing aside, the plot is absurd. I finished it out of a stubborn desire to find out how it ends. Don't do yourself the disservice of starting.
2013-12-23
7. Likable, Rich but not Plausible - Tana French is a gifted writer who is a master at describing texture, ambiance and the senses, whipping them into a rich mix that lulls the reader into a near dreamworld. The standout character in this book was Frank, a cop who pushes the legal envelope with unscrupulous practices carried out with rapier intelligence and the instincts of a stray dog. Cassie Maddox, the main character was complex, vulnerable and, like Frank, crossed the line of best practices with questionable police behavior. My one issue with the plot was swapping out a murder victim with a police look-alike without being detected by a group of very intimate friends. Otherwise, a brilliantly written work.

8. The likeness by Tana French - Reading the end I cried slowly, quietly and uncontrollably. Ms. French gets you inside the world she describes, with an uncanny immediacy. This story of youth, dreams and mirrors, where illusions and reality overlap, has an extraordinary pull. The destruction of a dream in the name of justice is the real crime.
2012-06-20
9. Into the Woods, The Likeness & Faithful Place - I have read all three of the murder novels of Tana French in a - day period. They all have rich, conflicted characters, engrossing plot lines and dazzling detail. I read a review of Faithful Place in the NY Times and picked up a paperback while on holiday. Start with the first work "Into the Woods." It's a beautifully painful story. Then proceed on.

1. Love James Patterson - I have read all the women’s murder club which I love except the new one I need to read that and was looking for something similar! Still haven’t found it, but came upon this book private and thought it sounded good and also done by Maxine Paetro also women’s murder club and was happy to find this book Is also enjoyable! So going to read the next one!

2. I don’t know how this book ended up on iBooks but - I would NEVER buy a James Patterson book. He is a terrible writer and I cannot figure out why anyone would ever read his unimaginative formula writing. I can’t figure out how to make it go away! I think it is a joke he is ever on any lists. Cmon people.

3. Pick a storyline and stick with it... - I guess I expected more than I actually got. There were so many plot lines I felt as though I were reading excerpts from a TV series rather than a single narrative. Would have been better to pick one, maybe two, of the plotlines and pursued it with intent and clarity. As is, it's disjunct and unable to determine the story it's trying to tell, and nearly every storyline ended up being underwhelming or predictable. The main one was barely passable for an episode of Law & Order, and I love Law & Order. And two-paragraph chapters? Were the authors compensated on the total number of chapters they wrote? Six sentences and I'm already on the next one? That's poor TV writing, frankly.

1. Good read - I think this is going to be a really good series. This first book was a little hard to keep track of. I did threaten to put the book down if I had to read about somebody walking around the hood of a car one more time. I also knew whodunnit from the beginning. That being said, I liked the main characters mostly. Rowley and Maggie need to have a lot of character development. You need more than two people to make a good book. Also a crotchety but likable character is always needed! I’m looking forward to reading the rest of the series , nobody starts out perfect and it’s a really good first novel!

1. The Dark Stumble - Connelly got away with creating a starring unlikeable character in Bosch by creating sympathetic supporting actors around him, not to mention his writing skills that capture the reader no matter how uncomfortable they may become as the kidnapping drags on.
Ballard is as deplorable in her antisocial behaviors as her 'mentor' Bosch. And a predictable ending using the 'smart-detective-turns-stupid' trope didn’t do her any favors.
Drizzled with a defund-da-police attitude also takes any possibility of an enjoyable read.
Perhaps that was Connelly's theme. Or perhaps he just never really like cops to begin with—fool me once, shame on you…fool me times and I wipe my hands.

2. The best in this series - I liked this book, interesting storyline. Ending felt very unfinished not like it would be continued on in the next novel but a rush to finish it. The part I do not like in this whole series is how the lead female is made out to be a B….. it does nothing for the story but make females in male dominated positions look horrible. We can be at the top of our game without being horrible to get our point across. The lead is not a likable character

3. Get the politics out - Always a good read from Connelly. I noticed some politics entering the narrative and wanted to correct his statement re the “insurrection” where he states the capitol police officer died from his injuries confronting protestors when in fact, according to the medical examiner, he died from a blood clot at the base of his skull which caused strokes. One could argue the clot was vaccine induced but that narrative is not allowed to be discussed.

4. Renee’ Ballard and Harry Bosch team up again - A pair of serial rapists on the loose in LA and a man who had managed to escape the violent gang lifetime is dead with a bullet wound during his New Years Eve party. In our nation’s Capital violent rioters are attempting a coup to take down our democracy. Covid is killing hundreds daily. With crime and death all around her, Detective Renee’ Ballard tries her best to work within the now broken LAPD. Her dogged determination turns up theories that no one else in the department wants to follow. She turns to Harry Bosch for help.
2022-05-06
5. Page turner, as usual - I found the book captured my attention and held it from beginning to end. Renee Ballard could be better developed. Her character is a bit like the female Bosch. Not patient, takes extreme risks. The earlier books gave more of her backstory but this one was really about the detective work. Masks and Covid are mentioned, but mostly in passing. You certainly know when this book is set - January . But for all the reviewers who say that this book is “woke” and “political” … gimme a break.
2022-01-16
6. Unfortunate leftist narrative - Author spins a good yarn…I’ve enjoyed most of his Ballard and Bosch adventures. This time he has fallen into the mainstream political ideology of the woke left…it’s unfortunate that he didn’t take the opportunity to state the actual facts but chose to spew the typical cancel culture narratives that has polarized our country. I know I’m just one person but I represent over half the population of like minded Americans that the left refuses to allow to voice opposing opinion’s. That’s not promoting change and diversity but quite the opposite. It’s censorship.
2021-12-21
7. I’m through with Connelly… - I read all Bosch series and rated them either or . This one was too disappointing. I wanted to stop but I have this bad habit that I have to finish what I started. He is out of ideas and this Ballard character is not doing it. He made Bosch her assistant in this book. A very bad idea. I’m through with Connelly.
2021-12-20
8. Dark Hours - Connelly never disappoints us. He gave Rene Ballard the place in the series she’s earned and gave what is probably a real close. view of how the police forces have changed with the challenge of the pandemic we are now living with. The truth of how bad crime has grown is as bad as ever. and may get worse. Our police forces need our help and a lot more respect We are hurting our future if we don’t change how we respond to these men and women of courage.
2021-12-19
9. Love love love Michael Connelly - The Dark Hours was one of his best! - I read on average three to four books a week. Michael Connelly remains in my top five favorite authors of all time. Books are like movies in my mind, and his writing creates the most amazing scenes. I read this book in less than a day, and hate that I have to wait a year for his next.
2021-12-06
10. Mediocre at best - Tired story line and really tiresome lecture from a liberal mind. Lazy police and insurrectionist conservatives are to blame; not moronic majors, extremely liberal DAs and judges; DIMS & media division. I guess it’s more important to be invited to the right parties and to get along with the Hollywood elite than write a good story.

1. Outstanding - Stars. Really enjoying the Ballard books. I really need to get further into the early Bosch stuff. I think I’m only or in. Connelly is outstanding. I loved the way he wove the stories together for this one. Both were great mysteries. I have a lot of catching up to do with his catalog.

2. Excellent book. - This is my favorite Michael Connelly book in years. This was a terrific read. I could have finished reading this book in a few days but I took my time because I loved it so much and didn’t want it to end. Both Bosch and Ballard are great in this and they make a very good team here. I like that there is more than one case being investigated. Excellent book!
2019-12-13
3. Bosch and Ballard - I love the way the author has several main cases and weaves the every night call outs into the story Another hit with this winning team. Just when I thought crusty old detective Harry was out the game, Connelly puts heavy hitter Ballard in the game and successfully refreshes the series. Excellent!
2019-11-10
4. Delightful - I surmise that, like me, many of you read several series like the Bosch series. Whether it be Child or Flynn, they have all provided enjoyment. Through the years I have found that the Bosch series continue to thrive and delight its readers while the others have become formulaic and boring. Mr Connelly provides interesting story lines and full character development. Still a joy to read.
2019-11-02
5. One of his Best - I read every Connelly book...the minute they come out. As usual, he features sophisticated plot, and this book was no different. I kept me reading, finishing it faster than I wanted. There is constant action, and best of all he succeeds where lazy detectives flailed and ignore him on a case be ends up solving. Great fun read. Go for it!
2019-10-27
6. Ballard & Bosch Do It Again - As someone who has read every single one of Michael Connelly’s books, I really love how many cases and people this one covered. Ballard already feels like a character that I’ve been reading about for years even though this is only her third book. She fits so well with Harry and Mickey and Michael does a tremendous job with the character development. The Night Fire ranks right up there with Connelly’s best.

1. Is Don done? - Don Winslow has been my favorite author for years. I’ve literally read everything he’s published and loved every word. Unfortunately, it seems he‘a recently spent more time working on his tweets than his “novels”. This one seemed rushed. I still don’t really know any of the main characters. Not really. I hope Don bounces back as an author and takes a break from being an activist.
2022-06-01
2. Not my favorite - I have high expectations for Winslow. His novels are usually fresh with interesting and vibrant characters, fun twists, engaging prose, and social commentary. I found this book a little gray and the characters cut from central casting. The prose was trying too hard to be “authentic.” It was hard for me to get invested in the story or the people in it. None felt like heroes. Hard to root for any of them or care that much. Just one long turf war. It has its bright spots but not at the top of Winslow’s list.

1. Memory Man has Friends - David writes great stories and not always happy endings but ones that make you want to read the next book and find out the main characters next journey. It isn’t only just one character and he makes you, the reader, feel the bond between the friends and the main character. I can’t wait for Decker, Jamison, Mars and Harper in the next book….. well done David because I went back and reread the previous Decker books and l await the next one.

2. Painfully sliw - This was very disappointing. Struggled, and tried very hard to stick with it. Was not able to finish this book and that’s rare for me especially with this author. I have loved all of his prior books and even pre order them. This book however was just incredibly slow. Who knows I could have been a page away from excitement, but I’ve been telling myself that for over pages now. Fallen asleep over times attempting to get through it.
2018-10-01
3. Unbelievale story - I enjoyed both the "Memory Man" and the second Amos Decker mystery introducing Melvin Mars. This third Decker book was awful. The second half got so disjointed with so many unbelievable coincidences and story lines that I could barely finish it. Melvin Mars being in the book had nothing to do with the plot line and involving the ex-prisoner/football player in the solution of the “mysterious” murder and suicide was ludicrous. Decker was shown to be rude and arrogant to his girl friend and the other investigators. His memory was not a factor in the resolution of the case. It was a bunch of wild guess work and the whole story was Alice in Wonderland.
2018-02-05
4. Not up to par - The first two in this Amos Decker series left me anticipating a good read with this third. It didn’t happen. It seems as though the author lost touch with his characters in this one. The plot dragged. If there’s a book four in this series, I’ll read it in hopes the characters are resurrected with the same wit and sparkle as in books one and two.
2017-12-03
5. The Fix. - stars for me. - IDK, could just be me being too distracted by “current events” but this failed to keep my attention for very long. It seemed to go very slowly at times. The ending was jam packed with excitement so left me with a good feeling. I wish the author would write to emphasize Decker’s extraordinary memory more in the stories. I find that ability very interesting. Still, a very good read.
2017-11-05
6. The Fix - Just a few too many main characters to fallow or it would have four stars. There is only one Hero and that is Amos Decker. He is both strong and vulnerable.
Those two characters make his heroics twice as valuable and did I mention lovable.
Add the twists and turns of a country under seize. He's the guy you want working for you. I have used a lot of words to say very little. You just have to read it yourself.
Enjoy!!

8. Review of "The Fix" by David Baldacci - I love this author's books and Amos Decker has become an interesting character to follow. This book was good, but not great. It would have been much better if the length was cut in half; so many of the little details could have been eliminated making the book more exciting and less of a drag.

1. Chaotic - James Patterson’s latest Alex Cross novel is all over the place. The story line jumped around so much, I found it difficult to follow. The story was complicated, convoluted, and confusing. Patterson wraps the multiple story lines toward the end but I was left feeling that the ending was rushed and not up to Patterson’s caliber of writing. I’ve read every Alex Cross novel. This one was not my favorite.

2. Disappointing end but still enjoyed reading about Alex’s newest adventures - I Love all of the Alex Cross stories but the last couple books have had disappointing endings. This one as well. The story goes along, interesting and has my attention and then as the ending comes, it seems like it’s hurriedly done. Has James got too much on his plate these days to finish his story as it started, strong??? The ending was flat and I was disappointed but still a huge fan!

1. Love Harry and Mickey - This is actually my second reading of The Crossing. As a fine artist and art history aficionado, I love Hieronymus Bosch’s diptych “Garden of Earthly Delights”. The depth and meaning of the paintings are immeasurable. But, I am also a huge crime thriller devotee as well. So, when I came across Michael Connelly’s Hieronymus “Harry” Bosch character several years ago, I absolutely had to read the first book which led to the next and so on. And I have read the Mickey Haller books as well. It was great to see their connection introduced as half brothers and what that might entail. When Amazon started making the Bosch series I worried that my idea of what Harry’s character looked and sounded like would be destroyed. I have to admit that at first I was unsure of Titus Welliver fitting into what I saw as literally a much taller person, but Mr. Welliver’s acting style has fit accordingly and much to my surprise the series has gone along with the narrative of the books with one glaring difference, the connection to Mickey Haller. This is one book I would like to see in the TV series because the connection has so many implications and give great background to Harry’s character. As always, thank you Mr. Connelly for your well researched and beautifully painted characters. I look forward to reading more and seeing how the TV series plays out.

2. Great story! - For some reason I skipped this when it came out ... probably because of reviews saying it was a "short story". I don't know what book those reviewers are talking about, after reading and thoroughly enjoying this book! It's a great story, great characters, more of the same that Harry Bosch fans are used to! Highly recommended! Thanks for a fun read, Mr. Connelly!

3. A Little Dissappointed......in myself - I have only myself to blame for not thoroughly reading the reviews from other readers before buying this shorter Bosch novel. Since Harry Bosch is one of my favorite characters I probably bought this anyway but would have been expecting a very quick read. Oh well....the sad thing is that this could have easily have been a more thorough story with the great character development I have grown to expect. It is like Michael Connolly just didn't care or try on this one. I can only hope the next Bosch story returns to the high levels of the all of the other predecessors (except for The Crossing)
2015-12-14
4. Welcome Back! - Welcome back Michael Connelly to superior Harry Bosch storytelling in The Crossing!! After so-so renderings with The Burning Room and Gods of Guilt, Connelly is back with a taunt tale with Bosch and Haller - outstanding plotting, pace, and smart writing. Enjoy - this will NOT disappoint!!
2015-11-18
5. Short but good - Connelly didn’t dissapoint in his story. Well told and up to his usual standards. I do agree with the other reviewers that this book was very short. It was a thinly veiled guise to include another book (already owned) with the download to cushion the $. blow. It is Connelly so I won’t totally cry foul but given this scenario again I’d either wait for the price to drop or skip it altogether.
2015-11-15
6. Relentless - Connelly's latest Bosch tale is like a stone rolling downhill, a little slow (not necessarily a bad thing) at first and then moves faster and faster the further it rolls. Ex-cop Bosch is no less relentless than when he was a detective. If the character does become a real PI, then Elvis Cole will face stiff competition.

1. What a School - I was a teacher for many years in America, and I guess I'm glad that I don't teach in old buildings and with students who act like that. I was surprised by the killer but as I went back, all the clues were there. Surely not a child's book like 'Harry Potter', well worth the adult read.

1. Too many holes - Lots of holes in the plot to make it a good read. At best it was okay. At the base of the book is a woman on trial for murder, but she would have never been arrested and charged with murder within hours of the crime in real life. There was one evidence she was at the crime scene. The evidence was laughable, and in no way realistic. I was constantly reminded that this was a work of fiction, and that is disappointing.
2023-03-10
2. The ending..not plausible. - There is no good way to write a review without spoiling the ending, but anyone who has read this knows what I'm alluding to. The format is consistent with his other work. Nice character development, technically well-written, and fun to read. A little preachy, but the ending..well it just doesn't work for me.

3. The Fifth Witness - Great read. Enjoyed the pace and character development. However, Mickey as a politician? I don't think so, compromise and being beholden to others is not the Mick that I've come to know and root for. Good luck Michael with the new direction, all I can say is Maggie must be special in the sack.
2011-12-04
4. Finding his groove. - I've always found Mickey Haller less interesting than Harry Bosch, but Connelly has done a good job of adding some dimension to the Lincoln Lawyer here. This is a finely crafted legal novel, with a lot of detail in how a defense attorney puts together and manages a trial. There's a chess-game underway all the time and MC does a great job of getting into the mind of a trial lawyer. He's done his homework and to build a credible tale focusing on the mortgage finance industry, he's mastered the details. Haller's ambiguous relationship with his ex-wife is handled well and effectively woven into the plot... not the tacked on distraction it has been in the past. Well worth the read.

5. th Witness - Another awesome Connelly book. If a fictional escape is your goal, he never disappoints. I read the entire series summers ago - one of the best reading summers I've had! Now I eagerly anticipate the new releases. When I start one, I'm always leery that it will disappoint, but th Witness is another winner! Keep up the good work, and keep providing us a great means of escape. Thanks for a good one. I thought Bosch was the only character I wanted to explore, but I am equally engaged with Haller now!
2011-07-29
6. Captivating - This novel tells a fascinating story of corruption and deceit. It paints an interesting picture of how a defense lawyer must use whatever means necessary to prove their client is innocent even when there is doubt about their innocence. The author does a great job keeping the reader guessing until the end. A great read from a talented author!

7. Fantastic and Fun - The Fifth Witness is superb courtroom fun. The way Connelly writes is the perfect balance of education and humor. The plot moves extremely fast, overall the boom crackles without any slow spots. Each character is described well enough that you really feel like you know them well enough for their contribution the story. Seeing the film, The Lincoln Lawyer was a good pre-cursor to the world of the characters as well. Bravo. Reading more of his now.

8. Excellently written - I love how this author writes, giving enough detail to keep me interested but not so much it makes my head hurt. The Fifth Witness is another successfully suspenseful courtroom based novel that keeps you guessing and impressed at the legal tactics Mickey Haller uses to get what he wants for his clients. Enjoy!!!!

9. He's the Best! - Michael, I am your biggest fan! Thanks for such incredible story telling. Each story you tell pulls me in hook line and sinker. This book is the best ever! Could not put it down. Your novels are like the tennis match of literature. Mickie's ahead then behind then ahead. His client is guilty then innocent then guilty. And then at the end a pie in the face! You never see it coming! I wish the next chapter in Michael Hallers' life was on the written page today! I can't wait to see where you take him next! The new DA? The possibilities give me goose bumps! Please write faster!

10. Brilliant - I've read them all and this is one of his best. Like Mickey, I was led at a breakneck pace that held me in its grasp until well past midnight. Genius plot, well-drawn characters, crisp dialogue and skillfully crafted courtroom scenes. The saber rattling and thrust and parry between the prosecution and defense was as well choreographed as any I've witnessed -- and I do mean witnessed. Mr. Connelly made me feel like I was there; seeing the whites of their (often rolling) eyes, the nuances of gestures and the sweat on their brows. Masterful work. Many thanks for hours well-spent.

1. Another page turner! Perfect vacation read. Onto book ! - Couldn’t put it down... without giving a spoiler alert, one issue wasn’t addressed nearly as well or as quickly as it should have been, leaving me perplexed for several chapters. In the end, all’s well, that ends well... for the most part!

2. Amos Decker - Gripping from start to finish. The growing number of players is an added bonus to Amos. I hope we see more of Mellow in a future story. The connection was a building point that I want to see more of. Expertly told mystery from a great writer. You latch on to his characters and see them grow ( in the story, as well as on you ).

3. Great character with conflicts - Decker is a flawed character who is determined to do what is right no matter the consequences. He wants the bad guys to be held accountable no matter how many years have passed. The character of Amos Decker gives the reader a small peek into what it maybe like to have Autism, Asperger’s syndrome or another neurological disorder that has high functioning brain power. I really enjoy following Baldacci’s characters over many years.

4. Memory man great....last mile not so great! - Memory Man had me captivated all the way through from beginning to end. Last mile was a complete mess and I kept falling asleep waiting for the plot to thicken. It took forever to get decent. I agree with the above about a typical blame game on all southern white males for being racist crap. This story was to far fetched and I am sorry this was not a good read. And I read a lot. Btw, I noticed a couple of dumb typos in the book. Who edited this thing?

5. This will be my last Baldacci book - Absolutely horrible. Too many hours I'll never get back! Loaded with ridiculous football metaphors and analogies that those of us who actually played football would never use. The story jumps all over and stretches common sense. Why wouldn't the evidence be hidden in a globe? That's always happening! Too many silly leaps such as that to count. I'm giving up on this writer...

6. The Last Mile, one of the best of - I read Ben Coes, Jonathan Hart, Daniel Silva, Lee Child and other David Baldacci books (Camel Club series and Will Robie series). This is one of my favorites and top of the books I have read this year. It is a seriously good book with an unusual story line and interesting characters. If I had known how much I would enjoy The Last Mile, I would have read the series in order. I skipped Memory Man, the first book in the series, because the main character was not particularly likable or intriguing in the free sample. The free sample for The Last Mile was not much better. I am glad that I went back and read all of the reviews and decided to make the purchase based on favorable reviews and my experience with other Baldacci books. I don't usually buy books at $. plus tax. It was quite good and worth every penny.

7. Twisty - At first I thought this book wasn’t anything special. Usually I really like this author so I was surprised by how average it felt. Then the twists kicked it, and I was fairly stunned by the directions it took. This installment didn’t seem like it focused quite a much on Decker’s unique ability/disorder as the first book, but he did amazing work figuring everything out. The Last Mile was a win for me. I’m looking forward to more in this series and more from this author.

8. The Last Mile - Author engages the reader in this tale from start to finish made for a good read. Main characters are fleshed out making the reader eager to read "what happens next", even when it's not "plot driven". Enough twists & turns to easily qualify as a "who done it". The " why" had its own surprises. Nothing's perfect, but I'd definitely read next book in Decker series.

9. MemoryMan/TheLastMile - Memory Man and The Last Mile combined two of my favorite things: football and a murder mystery. What's not to like? The supporting characters are nicely developed and an interesting group but Decker is amazing in every sense of the word. All his wonderful weirdness makes me want more more more of his adventures in dealing with both his ultra unique and fascinating brain function as he solves the case and his struggles to act human in small doses along the way. I will be there when the next in this series shows up and Decker and his team reassemble.

1. Good but.. - I enjoy the books in this series. This one I wouldn’t consider on edge or suspenseful until the end which was kind of a bummer as I like action packed fast paced. I can’t say too much without spoiling but the ending seemed rushed & fell flat when it came to that certain person. If you read the first then of course I’d recommend to read this one. Hopefully in the next book she finally ties up loose ends. Like who’s the general, about her father, what’s up with the warden, & can they finally get together already? Geez

2. Thriller - I really enjoy the Decker and Rockwell series. This one kept me guessing until the end. A family of is murdered but one child survives. Who killed the family and why? Can the desire for revenge override your survival instinct? Deck and Olivia work together to try and figure out this mystery. Just a touch of romance. Great cast of characters. Well written. I received an Advance Reader Copy in exchange for an honest review and this is my honest review.

1. Two Kinds of Truth by Michael Connelly - Chapter page . words-The President lies. I can only assume Mr Connelly means President Trump. I am really sick of Trump bashers. I have read every book in the Bosch series and enjoyed them, but I will never waste my money on one again. He could have said politicians lie but no, he had to make it about one President. Sorry, you have lost a reader.

2. An all nighter! - Couldn’t put it down. Harry Bosch undercover at his age? Fantastic idea. And an encouragement to us growing in years along with him. Court scene with Haller? Hanging on every word. Great intertwine of cases, friends and family. Insights into Harry’s relationship with biological father pulls at the heart. Thanks for the years of sharing these characters, Mr. Connelly. Looking forward to next chapter in the lives of Harry and Haller.

3. Two Kinds of Truth - So many kinds of untruths... again a great story about how real life is.. how hard it is to know where your path will go, how to follow it, or if you should not trust what you thought was true, and keep going deeper. I have been in love with Harry Bosch for years.. I wish I could meet him and thank him for making me think twice before I believe what seems so obviously to be the truth. Donna Ross

4. Is it asking too much to expect adequate research? - Pretty typical Bosch book, which I generally enjoy. But the lack of research on general aviation terminology and ATC protocol was dumbfounding. Even the most novice of pilots could have provided guidance, ask one for heaven’s sake. Unforgivably lazy.

5. Another Connelly Winner - I admit to having read every book Michael Connelly has written. That said this book reminded me why. Connelly's primary character, the great Harry Bosch solves three major cases in one book. In fact, I couldn't help thinking that after he proven a year old case had not been a miscarriage of justice and saved the City of Los Angeles countless millions of dollars in addition to a potentially devastating PR nightmare, he might be allowed back on the force in LA and not have to content himself to part time work in San Fernando Valley. Connelly proves again why he is the best living master writer in America, and on par with some of the greats of the past!

6. Two kinds of Truth - I love Harry Bosch. I’ve walked Crime scenes with him. Looked at the dead and waited for them to say who killed them and why. I actually Traveled with him in Vietnam except at a different date and I could never have gone into the Tunnels as a Tunnel Rat. As a former Cop and a Retired Professional Soldier, I identify with his feelings, his moods, family problems and understand the frailties of humans he has to deal with in his search for truth. This is another great tail and if you also like Harry, you won’t be disappointed. Thank you Michael. James F. Welch

7. Connelly Never Disappoints! - This book was thoroughly enjoyable. It has an interesting and highly credible plot. It has sections of suspense, and a highly suspenseful court scene. Connelly’s writing style is among the best. You feel like you are right there in the action. But darn! I now have to wait a long time for his next! Keep them coming, Michael and I will keep buying.

8. Never disappoints! - Michael Connelly never disappoints! I discovered his books almost years ago. Loved being able to binge read them in order... then I had to wait for the next one like everyone else! He is one of my top two favorite authors. A few days ago he was on Mike Lupica’s podcast, definitely worth a listen. Would love to meet him for a book signing in the Northwest!

1. Best book yet!!! - I felt like every book before this one was starting to become a repeat, but at the same time got to know Bosch's character better. My interest was waning until this book. I was confused to begin with since it wasn't the typical Bosch story, but at the same time I was excited - BECAUSE - it wasn't the same Bosch story. The end totally blew me me away!! Thank you Michael, I'm still behind about a decade at this point, but I hope to experience more of the same! (ps - I am conflicted with the televised series... mixes a lot up, watched episodes and may watch in the future... I prefer to stick to the books... the actor selected doesn't fit my image of Bosch (no disrespect ;-), and the timeline messes w/ my mind. But I'm generally either the books or the series type person - not both - since you can't measure one vs the other.

2. Perfect book!!! Perfect writer!! - I watched the movie The Lincoln Lawyer - with Matthew McConaughey - and loved it. When I bought THIS book, I was not aware that it is part of a series of books a out that same lawyer. The book exceeded my expectations: it is so well-written, so riveting, the plot twisting and turning ... I am most definitely going to get some more of mr Connelly' s books!! Worth every penny!!!

3. Absolute perfection - I started reading this a few months ago and actually stopped less than a quarter of the way in (took me awhile to get used to reading on an iPad instead of hard copy, and as a college student, I also found it difficult to read for pleasure). But I picked it up today, where I left off, and finished the book in less than a day. As Mick neared the end of the search for the killer, I felt a sense of fear within myself. Not knowing who could be trusted (other than Harry, of course), I felt as though I was looking over my own shoulder. Simply a brilliantly crafted tale, and I can't wait to check out the next installment!

1. FAIR WARNING - Such a disappointment! I have purchased and read most of Michael Connelly’s books on my iPad over this last year, during the pandemic. I have enjoyed them so much. The main character ,Jack McEvoy, is a big jerk, I have no respect for him at all, as he is rude, self centered, self serving, self consumed....and he is boring!!

2. Blossom - The book was great and I couldn’t put it down. Michael Connelly addresses many of the concerns we all have regarding the abuses that can take place under the internet. It’s a great thing but there’s always someone who has issues and looks for victims to exploit. Looking forward to the next book. Will Jack and Rachel ever get together?
2021-03-27
3. Jack is just plain stupid - Of all of Michael Connelly’y characters I dislike Jack McEvoy the most. I’ll speak to the character here, not the author. Some may laud his journalistic zeal, but I think he’s single minded and selfish. His desire to be first in line in actuality perpetuates the negatives with journalists today. His quote “I’m the press, I have a right to be here” shows just how out of touch he is. He feels his rights usurp common sense, and this is why I don’t like him. I’m going to go into a soliloquy here, but in his love live, again his stupidity comes to the forefront. Let me just say that he deserves to be alone. Michelle could do better! Good story, but frustrating character to follow.

4. Fair Warning - Another outstanding book by this author! I’ve read every book written by this author, and am never disappointed. I learned a lot about DNA analysis that I didn’t know, and have always believed that that industry should be closely monitored and tracked by federal regulators. My only criticism is that some of Jack’s dialogue with his reporter colleagues sounded like high school newspaper writers arguing about bylines. Not the same Jack in The Poet and Scarecrow. Hope Jack and Rachel will become an investigative team in future books and Jack will mature and stop his self defeating behaviors. I read this in a few hours because I couldn’t wait to see if the monster Shrike would be stopped.

5. Fair Warning - It’s great to see Mr Connelly back to the top of his game with another great Jack McEvoy book. I love the Bosh series of books but felt the writing was getting tired and retreaded. It goes to show fans how talented Connelly is with fresh material and characters. More McEvoy and less Bosh unless you can freshened him up!
2020-05-28
6. Boring - I usually really enjoy this author’s work, but I finally quit near the halfway point. This book literally reads like a petty rant against DNA privacy laws with virtually NOTHING happening beyond a reporter running around asking questions with little purpose other than to give the author a soapbox. A $. price would still have left me feeling cheated out of a dollar.

1. Not one of Baldacci’s best. - Preposterous is a good word to describe this book. We never learn how large the town is but apparently they have enough police force to not miss those that are killed Often. The ending is abrupt and those of the book is long the explanations of what was going on is handled in the last few paragraphs. Most of this makes little sense.I’ve always enjoyed Baldacci’s books but this one was a little much.

2. Best author Ever! - I learned how to read what I was about four years old with Dr. Seuss. I have readof thousands of books and continue to read at least one a week. I picked up a David Baldacci book from my friend last year and was hooked. In a little over a year I have read every book he has written and eagerly antipate the next one to hit the shelves. Thank you Mr. Baldacci!

3. Reminded me why I quit reading this author... - Silly plot, all over the map, amateurish and frankly boring. It’s like he just randomly writes stuff to get a page count, and then tries to tie it all together, with the result being a jumbled nonsensical story. Reminded me of why I quit reading Baldacci a long time ago. Frankly, the book just prior to this, by Joseph Finder for two bucks, was way better. Too many good authors out there to justify paying fifteen bucks for someone who dials it in like this seems to be.

4. Not his best work - I usually like his books and his earlier Amos Decker books were good. This one, however, was a disappointment. The plot was complex to the point of being literally unbelievable. The errors in technology were distracting (a non-military drone does not sound like an airplane), the criminals using the drone for surveillance didn’t think to black out the lights. And I lost count of the number of murders committed in the small town of Baronville after six. It seemed to me to be a badly thought out attempt to highlight the very real impact of opioid addiction in small town America.

5. Thoroughly Enjoyed - The twists and turns in the story line made me want to turn each page. Could not put the book down. Amos Decker is one of my favorite characters of the fiction world. I read a-lot of scientific facts for work and David Baldacci’s books are such “brain relaxers”. Such enjoyable entertainment,
