1. wasn’t very intriguing pt - i bought this book and her previous book because a lot of people recommended it to me (friends, mutuals, people online) and honestly, it’s very unsatisfactory. most of the poems aren’t really poetry. it’s sad that many people consider their writings to be poetry just because you can call anything poetry now. the definition of poetry is, “literary work in which special intensity is given to the expression of feelings and ideas by the use of distinctive style and rhythm; poems collectively or as a genre of literature.” the problem with this is that a lot of her ‘poems’ are too simple. they’re something like a sentence you could say to a friend, but divided into different stanzas. most of the poems don’t show any literary expertise. there aren’t many metaphors or figurative language, no rhyming, or distinctive/individual style...

2. The Sun and Her Flowers - I first discovered this book from a post someone had made on some social media platform. The post was an image of one of the pages in this exquisite piece of literature. I’d like to pick my favorite poem from this collection, and say it was the one that drew my attention, but I simply can’t choose just one. I highlighted every poem that stood out to me until I realized I was highlighting almost all of them. I can’t even remember which one stood out to me most, because every poem in this book is so wonderfully written. Rupi Kaur illustrates her life and experiences so vividly. You can feel her emotion in every syllable. It took me quite a while to finish reading this piece. At first, I quickly read through the pages, as I was yearning for more: I couldn’t put it down. It’s not the type of book that makes you think “I need to know what happens next”; it’s the type of book that makes you want to know what she feels next, how she grows from these tragedies, not only the experiences themselves, but how she illustrates her emotions and actions she so carefully expresses. When I realized I was nearing the last or so pages, I put it down. I didn’t want it to end: I wanted to hold onto the feeling of this experience remaining ongoing. I have, however, finally finished it, after having been reminded that I can always read it again. I’ve rarely found a collection of poems that I love so much. Not many poets keep my attention throughout their poetry books. / would recommend this piece to anyone who even remotely enjoys reading poetry.

3. It was alright. - I purchased this book shortly after it hit shelves, because I was enthralled by Milk and Honey. I found this book to be less relatable, and it seemed as though some of the poems were simply remakes of ones found in Kaur’s first hit book. I read this cover to cover in about mins and ended up gifting it to a friend who was going through a hard time. It wasn’t money wasted, since I was able to gift it, and it was $, but all in all, I would say this is not one of Kaur’s best compostitions. Hoping the next is a bit more original!

4. Exceptional - Kaur truly captures her essence in this book. I read her last one “Milk and Honey” and I adored both. “The Sun and Her Flowers” is more detailed, as it tells a perpetual story. She carefully and precisely wrote about her struggles with self love and acceptance. She also writes about the adversity her family had to face as immigrants. Her story about immigrants is absolutely humbling and inspiring. It’s amazing how she manages to express her parent’s situation and how it impacted her. The author is a true poet with an amazing mind, exposing the common problems of society, and her solutions, in sweet poetry.

5. The Sun and Her Flowers - My second read by the author. Her first collection was given to me as a Bday gift this past October. I felt in love with her openness and truth. Therapeutic and cleansing!!! Couldn’t wait for her newest book- as beautiful as the first. An amazing talent, far deeper than her yrs. She has walked this way before.
A must read for anyone and everyone trying to understand love, loss, giving up and moving forward!

6. Not real poetry - Most teenage girls who are passionate in writing poetry can write something to at least this level. I understand how you want to increase your audience by simplifying your poetry, but this sounds too generalized. Most of these few lined poems can be found in a descriptive novel, Kaur definitely has an interesting perspective, but her tumblr-Esque illustrations and her instagram poems are far too basic to be considered fine art. This book is definitely overhyped.

1. disappointed and such a waste. - was excited to purchase this book after seeing the impressive amount of positive reviews raving about this book. It’s awful, so cheesy and all super meaningless. Every poem in this book holds no weight they are simply just like the sayings you find on a hallmark card from CVS. Such a bummer, had so much potential. such a waste of money - do not buy.

2. Absolutely beautiful! - Beautiful book! Makes you understand your worth as a person. Makes you look at your single life or relationships deeply. The struggles that we as women are going through being in a relationship or not. It’s important to know our worth and understand that we are beautiful no matter what body type or skin color. Love this book!

4. Good but not worth it - It’s okay for a man to read on how to treat HER! I also thought I was going to read on finding HER (myself) not on finding true love. Didn’t like the fact that I paid for something not only was it not what I expected but it took mins MAX to read the entire thing! Not worth it

1. / - I am not a reader I don’t like to read and I haven’t opened a book since I graduated highschool. I came along this book on social media and I decided to give it a try because I been going through so much in my life. Long story short I bought this book and I can’t believe imma say this but I finished it in days it’s SO GOOD! Made me cry, made me think ALOT, and it just made me feel comfortable and safe. It’s one of those books where you’re relaxing and then you read a page and you just sit there and think about everything. I completely fell in love with this book. I feel like I am healing from a lot of traumatic experiences in my past. I really recommend this book! It will make you feel different at the end!

2. Visually Pleasing - This book was a beautiful journey & reflection. There was a lot of pages that have been folded that took me into deep thought, forcing me to take a breathe & feel the ache, discomfort & allowed me to digest a sip of healing with each poem. I was reminded that the healing is not done. That I am only at the tip of discovering how heartbroken I am & that healing in chaos will create the most beautiful chapter while entering the next phase of my life. Thankful.

3. Weird read - Really struggling to understand how this book has so many good ratings. I only paid $., and it still feels like a waste of money. If you hate your dad and are into weird poems about non-consensual sex, this book is for you.. I didn’t read the rest of it after the first chapter, but based on it, I don’t want to.

4. Not poetry - I actually hate almost all the “poetry” in this book; because it’s not poetry. I think it’s suppose to come out as empowering and self accepting which is all good but give me a break. It’s basically your typical feminist crap all with in some odd pages of nothing original and a whole lot of TMI on body hair.

5. Beautiful - I love it. It is saddening that there are so many woman out there who have to deal with the men who are hungry. But this book really gives the woman the power to speak and think of what they are, or have, been going through. This book is beautiful. I Can’t wait to read more of her books. Please check her out, her book is amazing.

6. Poetry in the Modern Age - I didn’t really like the poems within the book. a few of them were pretty good and the story of Milk and Honey was really good, but as a poetry book it was lacking in a lot of ways. the poems were very scattered and honestly they were hard to read. not in a contextual sense but more in a literal sense. it suffers from the common thing that many modern poets suffer from and it’s taking themselves too seriously. the book focuses on some heavy issues but it doesn’t dive into certain situations very well and leaves the door open on many poems for the sake of word play and dramatic effects that doesn’t really land the jump.

7. Absolutely Stunning - It’s definitely something I’ll read OVER and OVER again. A lot of people say it’s overrated but really, its just honest. The drawings definitely give it a more whimsical visual. It talks about the relationships, rape, pain, and strength. There are definitely some poems that’ll make you tear up but that’s the beauty of it. It’s real and direct. Definitely recommend for people that have endured traumatic life experiences as a woman.

8. Perfect book - This is with no doubt one of my favorites book. It really touched my heart.I could feel her pain and her love. This book not only inspired me but also help me understand and appreciate more my body and life as a woman. I love everything about the book, the paintings, the order in which the author arranged the chapters. I truly recommend this book to every women, even if you are not into poetry I can absolutely promise you that Milk and Honey is a book that will make you feel all kind of emotions.

9. Artistic inclusion - I’ve known about this book for years, but I wanted to allow myself to reach the age to truly understand it. As someone who is a young adult and has experienced all the subcategories mentioned, I connected with Rupi. Her words cut me open and showed me exactly where in my body I needed healing. Reading this book inspired me. As a creative, I have a greater appreciation for the artistic aspect of this book. I caught myself stopping a lot and just staring at the Images. They were so simple, yet complex at the same time. The imagery captured with her words reflected well with her drawings. It’s almost as if she knew what I needed to say before I got the chance to say it. I will be recommending this book to all women. Thank you Rupi. Thank you for sharing your gift with the world.

10. Not poetry but it’s good. - Saw snippets online every time I browsed through Instagram or a Facebook. People were constantly sharing parts of this book so I decided to read it (after a very long time).... as a victim, I understand all of the hurting portion... it’s hard to put those feelings into words; yet here it is. I get the point but the wording still doesn’t seem appropriate. But I can’t put someone else’s hurtful experiences into words. The rest was short and sweet. I was interested in all Rupi Kaur books before actually reading one, lost interest here. I think this is a hit or miss. Either you like it or you don’t.

1. Jaw dropping - Several times I found myself collecting my jaw off the floor because of the relevance. The clarity that I received was an amazing validation of what I’m feeling and processing. I can’t recommend this book enough for anyone in an abusive or difficult relationship, going through a heartbreak, or have questioned their worth.

2. Amazingly insight - No offense but when you see a book of poetry about the trials a woman feels and sees on the daily, you don’t expect it to be written by a man. This book spoke to my soul and encouraged me to believe in myself and advocate for myself. The person I trusted to do so for me was complacent with that trust but the flip side being that I let it happen. This books throws that up against your pain and asks you to accept your role in this pain. Amazingly insightful read. No matter what your situation, there is something in here to help heal you!

3. E A S Y Read! - This book is so spot on! Definitely recommend if your breakup/divorce is fresh. This book will help you remember to look forward and not back! I read this book mostly in the late hours of the night, when I couldn’t stop thinking about everything. The only downfalls are It’s a very short book! Also, It’s not as deep as I wanted it to be at times. Sometimes the lines would be flowing so beautifully then end abruptly, almost as if the writer took a break from writing, came back, and just wrapped that line up to move on. But overall, if you’re looking at it, get it. It helps. :)

1. Mary Oliver’s Devotions - Oliver has a way of drawing the reader into her intimate relationship with the Flora an Fauna of the Nature she lives with in Provincetown and Florida. In these poems she shares the secret lives of grasshoppers, poppies, moles, mussels, owls, foxes and deer. While doing it she asks herself the ultimate questions of life. She tempts her readers to question their own lives, their relation to urban culture and the Nature they should love as much as she does. Her language is deceptively simple and straightforward. But it masks a depth of passion that drives her verse. Her Nature is fascinating. You’ll come to love it as much as she does.

1. Great text, worthless copy - This E-book is worthless. It lost track of my place every time I closed it once I got the the English translation. I had to highlight a word to keep track. When I had about pages left, it thought the book was complete and popped up adds for other books every few page flips. Maddening.

2. Beautiful - The sheer awesomeness that an unknown author can weave into this awe inspiring epic is sheer genius! I know that their is an author listed but he is actually only the translator. The author is unknown! It's too bad because I wish I knew who to thank for this incredible piece of art! I normally put up a wall when a story grows sad so I don't cry! But alas I sat in european literature class and cried my eyes out! Mascara ran down my face when the book drew to an end! It was beautifully done to a point where when it grew sad I didn't want to throw the book away! In would tell you why I was crying but I wish not to spoil the ending for all you currently reading or soon to read.

1. Origins to the Bible - Most of us assumed that Genesis was originated by the Jews. The stories were original to there faith. The Epic of Gilgamesh, a Mesopotamian story dates back to BCE, much older than the oldest scroll. It is probably the original story of Noah's Ark and the first answer to why man is mortal. It is an example of adopting and adapting from an other society to make it part of your story.

2. Almost unreadable - The way this version is translated is extremely annoying. Asterisks, brackets, and then more asterisks break up the middle of words. At least a third of the text is within brackets, signifying where the original tablet text is broken. I don't care about what syllables happen to be faded out, Im more interested in the actual story. This can be good if you need to have an accurate letter-to-letter original copy, but it's very difficult to read coherently for anyone who's trying to. Other than that, this is a simple no-nonsense edition. Any extra notes are brief to fill in any missing sections, but there is no commentary. I found that a plus. Also, this is a great price compared to other editions I was looking at.
