1. Amazing read - I learned about this book from Derek himself on the amazingness that is Reddit. I figured,"It's only a couple bucks, might as well read it and see what it's about." After reading this book, I can honestly say that I haven't had a good read in awhile until this book. If you have ANY questions or inquiries about this fraction of an instant in the Dragon Ball Universe, then THIS is the key to unlocking them. Honestly, I'm a little surprised this isn't selling for a little more than the list price, considering how great it goes into detail. Thank you so much Derek for enlightening my world and when I finally have enough money, I shall purchase your other book(s)!

1. More Practical Info, Less Technical Info - This is NOT a step by step guide to creating shonen manga. They mention this in the introduction. They found that having too much technical information up front could kill a beginners motivation. A sentiment that I agree with. It’s FOCUS is getting you to identify your interests and inspirations to help you create a manga that is distinct to you. They spend about % of the book hammering this notion into the reader. I like how they included some writing prompts to show how each participating artist had their own spin on it. This sort of backs up the idea of creating what interests you. There’s a whole middle section where they interview around popular creators from Shonen Jump. These include Oda, Kubo, Horikoshi, Fujimoto and Gotouge to name a few. I found a lot of this information to be helpful and I took a lot of notes from the pros. The last section of the book covers the fundamentals of using either digital or analog (traditional paper). This is a PRETTY SOLID guide for beginners. Even if you’ve been creating manga for a while you can take one or two things away from this. Not only did I get new ideas, I was surprised when they brought up things I thought I was the only one suffering with creatively. I’ll give this a out of . The interviews from the creators was informative, the writing prompts were enlightening and the creative process was dissected thoroughly. I wasn’t too crazy about the editor and kid conversation structure but you can find some useful information by reading through it. Obviously, if you’re serious about creating manga, comics or graphic novels I’d suggest you use as many resources as possible. This is just one out of dozens you can use.
