1. Repetition Builds Habits. - It is highly repetitive. However, like any habit, it needs to be driven into one over and over to really leave its imprint. Push through and remember, this is about creating change in ourselves, one and done truly isn’t enough to make that really set in. The repetition helps you marinate in it, and for lasting change, that’s part of the point.

2. Interesting concept, GREAT READ! - The book is literally as the title reads. The author not only explains what it means to lead with why but also it’s purpose. Very deep especially the last chapter with the story of the runner. If your at a point I life where you don’t know where to go next definitely read this.

3. Simple concept with profound implications - What a powerful book! For those who were moved by Simon Sinek’s Ted Talk on “Start with Why,” this book is really the complete package in terms of examples and arguments that support his thesis. Finding a way to inspire those around us is the Holy Grail of leadership. So having recently found myself tasked with running a small organization, it was no surprise that this book was helpful. stars for compelling me to read this book end-to-end (I don’t often make the time to read). Very excited to read Sinek’s other books.

4. Repetitive, but Foundational - Look, this book is repetitive. It feels like Simon repeats the same phrase in every section of the book. However, this book made me reflect on the way that I approach my daily life. In business, in leadership, and in relationship building. And I believe that the repetition brings me back to remember why I even picked up the book in the first place. To find the inspiration to think differently. This book did that for me.

5. A bit Repetitive - We get it: WHY is important. It was repeated over & over with supporting evidence then abruptly drops you off the Cliff of What Now? Some practical advise & strategy on identifying our core “why” would be useful. I was left hanging, wanting assistance or guidance on my journey down the discovery path.
2019-06-28
6. Boring - The book has some good points and i agree with what is said, but it keeps repeating it again and again and it gets boring. You just basically keep reading about Apple’s and Southwest’s WHY and how Dell and HP have lost their’s. The author keeps telling us how companies have lost their WHY’s, but i think he forgot his too.

7. Why this is a great book - This book is so much more than mindful reason, it is about bone marrow deep purpose. I thoroughly enjoyed this read and discovered new insight and ability to really dig deeper for my Why. Simon Sinek’s golden circle and explanation of the biology of why is brilliantly brought forth in his book. A must read for anyone that desires to be driven by purpose rather than compulsion.

8. Meh - Pretty good book. Like most of these, the author makes his point quickly, and then proceeds to beat his point into the ground. Ad nauseam. It’s been a long time since I read a business book that page after page I found some enthralling useful advice. After I read this book, that statement still holds true.

9. Start With Why - Very inspirational. If you enjoy books that tell stories about Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Howard Schultz and other successful corporate leaders. You ll like this book. It's my style of reading. Very easy to remember the concepts of the Golden Circle. I wily definitely recommend. If you like Malcolm Gladwell type books you enjoy this one.

10. Inspiration to inspire yourself - As a huge Sinek fan, this book has made it’s way deep into my soul. I read this book with a sidenote and highlighter always reflecting on who/how this could benefit me or someone I know. It is incredibly insightful and inspiring. Thank you Simon for another little window into your wonderful mind.

11. Repetitive and unfocused - In the movie "There Will Be Blood," Daniel Plainview, a super successful independent oil prospector clearly states at the end of the film after building an enormously wealthy empire, "I don't like explaining myself." Although the super successful in our world have a clear purpose and direction, they have a lot of trouble articulating why it is they do the things they do. Some of them don't even really know how they do it. They are blessed with an internal compass and drive. Their gift is not something than can be analyzed by the neocortex and distilled into a formula and plastered into a book. This book is merely an analysis that could've been summarized into pages, and instead turned into bloat. It's like asking Pavarotti, "Teach me to sing like you." He can't. I wasted my time and money on this one; it was recommended by a friend. The TED Talk by itself is enough. Simon says: You need a reason "why" for everything you do in life. That's ridiculous. Although looking backwards, it can be easy to rationalize a why, going forwards it can be a handicap and prevent you from venturing into the unknown. My child played with a grasshopper for an hour the other day for no other reason than that she liked it. Simon doesn't say: How to actually find your "why." All this talk about how important it is to start with why, then absolutely no mention over hundreds of pages on actually how to find it. Simon assumes: The great leaders knew their why and could articulate it. Simon says some good stuff: The Golden Circle is a great metaphor for how some have succeeded, and the parallel to the layers of the brain is also interesting, albeit incomplete. Sinek poses three layers of the circle to only two layers of the brain. Simon says: The same thing over and over and over and over and over and over and over again. This book could have been shortened into three tight chapters at the most. He makes some really great points about when the why is missing, all starts to unravel. This is the genius of the book, but again... waaaay to redundant.

12. WHY makes sense - Starting with WHY--the notion, not the book's title--provides a greater depth of thinking when it comes to decision-making before deciding. In fact, I learned WHY isn't a decision at all, but a tool to ask myself. What is my natural inclination? Decisions then become a matter of deep-rooted personality. This book is inspiring. It is reasonable. I have found myself with a fresh perspective on my day-to-day, and a checkbox towards where I'm going. Read for yourself or give as a gift. You won't go wrong with Starting With Why.

13. Game Changer - This book made me realize that the entire time I have been building my business my mind was always on the right track but I stayed with a followers mentality. Never did I think that if I shared why I felt the way I did about my industry would that it would truly show my authenticity. Being like everyone else but talking about how different I was would be enough. Having just finished the book only moments ago, I am ready to implement my why and be confidant in the reasons I started my business in the first place. Read this book....it is a MUST if you want to be a game changer in your industry!!!

14. If you believe in inspiring, then you MUST read this book! - This is a book about inspiring and getting inspired. It's not a business book, but it will help you with your business. It's not a self-help book, but it will help you with your life. It will help you understand yourself and the organizations you're involved in, in a deep and still simple way. If you believe in inspiring and you are (or want to be) and inspiring leader, you should definitely read this book.
2012-11-05
15. Inspiring! - I read this book in a little under three days. From the moment I picked it up to the moment I put it down, it hit home on all of the questions I always had in my head about leadership and why some ideas take off while others don't. I loved the simplicity of the concept of the golden circle and its attributes. I've been in marketing and leadership roles the bulk of my career and I can agree that the golden rule makes sense.

16. The best "business" book I've read - This book is profound. After getting an MBA and reading business literature for many, many years - I can say with certainty that this is the best book I've read. I put business in quotes, because it applies to your personal life as much as the business world. My whole perspective on my work and how I lead my organization has completely changed. I'm recommending this book to all my coworkers, friends and family.

17. Sinek is Why - Simon does an amazing job at being able to inspire his audience that want to make a difference in the world. He does this by bringing us to our simplest and most innocent of questions; why. I remember being that "why" child. We asked why about everything in our world once we learned how to speak. We must continue to ask why as adults. These why questions are our beacon. Once we ask why, all the obstacles become meaningless. Simon reminds us of this fact by breaking it down with his simple concept of the golden circle. My own personal objectives in my business and in my life became clear and simple. Life seemed easier and more fun. Money no longer became a focus and measure of my success...my customers' smiles became the metrics. That's for the inspiration, Simon.

18. Trite, cliche, and stereotypical - The idea of "Start with Why" is good. It is important to have a set of beliefs that dictates the way you live and the way you conduct life. The book itself, sadly, is terrible. Simon's writing is wrought with cliches. He presents his idea as if it were some new revelation that will change the world, when in fact, the core idea of "Start with Why" is as old as time. He picks the most stereotypical examples of success in history and uses his idea as an oversimplified explaination of the sucess. I only took a handful of basic business classes in college yet I feel like this book taught me nothing I didn't already know. This book was a waste of money.

1. Read it every day in - This book is in my top of all time. Ancient wisdom from the Stoics that rings true and feels modern today. I read it every day as part of my journaling and writing practice. Try it here on iBooks and if you love it, consider picking up a leather bound version by Ryan at his book store, The Painted Porch. That’s why I did, this book is a gem.

2. Stoicism - Despite the author's claim that Stoicism is not the unfeeling philosophy we have come to know it as, that is definitely what I found this collection of philosophical quotes to be. If you are looking to affirm your bootstrap moral code that is built on soulless "shoulds", then this is the book for you. There are definitely some classic gems to be mined from these dauntless thinkers.

3. Daily Supplement of Wisdom - I first encountered the Stoics in my Philosophy classes in college. Our professors focused on more current schools of Philosophy, so Stoicism was only glanced upon. For that reason and others I did not really pick it up again until late in . Looking for something calming and distracting from the political turmoil. Slowly working my way through the Stoic philosophers I eventually landed at Ryan Holiday’s detailed analysis and packaging of Stoicism into a bite sized daily package. Stoicism is a lot to try and take on, almost hinting at a monastic sensibility. You need a guide through it so you don’t end up sitting on a rock disavowing the world in some sort of numbing isolation. The Daily Stoic is just the right type of field manual for those interested in Stoic teachings. It is not just like some New Year’s calendar with a clever quote everyday, though it is read ideally consumed in daily readings over the course of a year. Holiday has carefully structured each month into themes that build upon each other. Quotes and passages from the various Stoics are explained and tied to anecdotal examples from modern life. Moreover, the months are grouped into different aspects of our nexus of control. This approach makes Stoicism approachable and useful for anyone. With all of the incoming noise and chaos of the world only growing in scale, relative to the technology that accelerates the entropic reach of distraction; we need a release valve for all of the building pressure. A little meditation and supplement of The Daily Stoic is the perfect remedy.

4. The Daily Stoic - I’ve been reading this book everyday for years, and I learn something every time I read it. Repetition is imperative for me, so reread these pages in order to absorb the statements and put them into practice. As long as I am alive, I will read this book everyday and work to be a better man.

5. - When I began following in Jan , I was a smoker with other bad health habits who had a poor social life and intense anxiety. Through using the companion journal and reading these texts, I began to see certain themes come up again and again and again. I realized how ashamed I was of my smoking and the way I was treating people and myself. Using this text, Holiday’s other books, some meditation, and a lot of good intention, I quit smoking, started travel nursing, got back in the gym, started running, and started treating people and myself with respect. I’ve been cigarette free for - months now and I’m very proud of my relationships and the way I treat people. This text is an invaluable resource for young men (especially) who feel that they have no obvious male role models. Many days I read these texts and felt like Marcus was speaking to me from the grave as a father and a brother. Thank you, Ryan. I no longer fear death (or life ).

6. The Bedside Counselor - A close friend suggested The Daily Stoic as a guide for life’s journey as I move into the next half century of my life. It sits on my bedside as a calming resource for daily and weekly spiritual guidance on my own ongoing personal development, my career, communication at home and at work, and family engagements (both the highs and the lows). I love how the boook is designed in sections with supporting ancient philosphies (and the authors’ translations) that align with that section. You can take things in small bites, reflect and then consider how you might apply the teachings. As a lifelong learner, this is a valuable addition to my beloved collection of books!

7. The Daily Stoic - I literally bought his book last Thursday because Megan Batoon (a Youtuber/dancer/an overall cool person) showed me multiple excerpts from this book by Ryan Holiday and I was inspired to buy the book so I obviously did. This book was genuinely informative and it has taught me honestly more than I ever learned in high school and that's saying a lot. I feel like a Stoic practitioner and I'm not afraid to let the world and whoever comes my way know about all the wisdom and knowledge I've obtained from reading this amazing book.

1. Stories, and negotiations were gripping and memorable. - It’s a must read for all, negotiators, which is basically everyone because life is riddled with negotiations. From calibrated questions, to the black swan, this book gave me practical and applicable advice to adhere. Thank you for writing this.
2023-02-12
2. Some insight but full of Smug - His experience commands insight and attention. However, his writing style gives off a tone of smugness. If you ever seen him on video recording you’ll confirm what I mean. Additionally, it’s clear he advocates for the status quo. (Hardly innovative for negotiating.) You also can’t help but think his success stems from the awesome power of an FBI badge and history.
2022-12-05
3. Excellent Purchase - Easy read, with tons of applicable information. The concepts in this book should be reviewed before any negotiation, it can make a difference. I used the “how” question when someone asked for a raise and it worked like a charm. I made a odd offer on a recent purchase and the seller didn’t counter resulting in $ saved.

4. Changed how I view conflict. - I found the teachings of this book extremely valuable after it was recommended by a mentor. It was the first e-book I purcheased and I studied it with a notebook because Chris Voss gives examples and evidence to his arguments about negotiation that its hard not to be convinced. I am excited to reflect his teachings to real life.

5. AWESOME - I have negotiated my entire Sales career. The techniques that Chris Voss has put together are pure gold!! I’ve read many books on Leadership, Accounatbility and Negotiation. This book is right at the top of the list! I’ve also taken Chris Voss’s “Master Class” on MasterClass.com. Next I am going to attend one of his “Black Swan” classes in the near future…AWESOME stuff!!

6. Totally changed the way I talk to people now. - The techniques in the this book helped me do the impossible. I was actually able to get an elderly person to stop using Internet Explorer! You might think I’m joking but it’s no laughing matter to those in tech support. After this review I plan on re reading it again because I’m sure I will learn even more stuff I missed out on the first time around.

7. As entertaining as it is insightful - Absolutely loved this book. I had a pretty lucrative deal in the works that had gone cold, as my counterpart was suddenly unresponsive for about weeks after receiving my proposal. I decided I’d try some “Email Magic” before giving up for good. Wouldn’t you know it, she replied within hours and we are signing the deal next week. This book paid for itself (and then some) in a simple -worded email. Not to mention all of the other methods and strategies I will be able to implement in other negotiations yet to come. It is packed full of information, wisdom, strategy, and entertaining stories from a career in crisis negotiation. The real-life stories Chris Voss shares from his FBI negotiation experience are the most interesting part. It’s incredible how the strategies you’d use to get a hostage-taking bank robber to give themselves up are built upon the same foundation and rules of engagement you’d follow in any situation where your ultimate goal is to get your counterpart to do what you need them to in order to win. I’ve recommended this book to several coworkers and recommend to anyone interested in broadening your knowledge of the dynamics of negotiation, communication, and human psychology.

8. Excellent Material - This book has excellent information in it! I read it quickly and couldn't put it down. If you are interested in developing your people skills, soft skills, listening skills, and of course negotiating skills, this book is for you! I bough this book to improve my skills in communication and business, and am very excited to implement these techniques.. there is no doubt it will help.

9. Fantastic read - The insight to the human psyche that Chris delivers is worth so much more than $ it's almost laughable. Drawing examples from real hostage negotiations, Chris explains the "why" behind the method and then reinforces with more real life examples from former students. I think what is most helpful to me are the examples from former students. Through those examples you get a handle on when and how each technique is applicable. Can't wait to see what he comes up with next!

1. There’s nothing good about Rommel - The book is too interested in not seeing an example through to the end. He holds up Rommel as some sort of military genius in North Africa leaving out the fact that he died by suicide at the side of Hitler after murdering his own family while hiding in a bunker. After that it’s hard to take the book seriously. Also, he really carries the water for all the Silicon Valley bros. Just read Marcus Aurelius on your own and don’t waste your time with this opinion piece on stoicism.

2. Definitely recommend - This book is so spot on to what I’ve been experiencing of late in my personal and professional life. It has become a great tool for me to use and look at situations through a different lens and in most situations, to see myself through them better off. This will be a great asset as I continue my personal growth and one I share with many along the way.

3. Perspective changing - Fascinating book, and I’m very grateful to have read it! I work in manufacturing and It’s changed not only how I look at the not-so-enjoyable “busy work” that must be managed before getting to work on more interesting projects and challenges, but also how I interact with my team members (Unity over Self and “giving a crack at lifting the heavy end”). The authors bias is apparent several times throughout the book and only serves as a distraction from the point being made, regardless of whether you agree with it or not.

4. Well written great book - I kept co omg across this book for some time and finally jumped into it and was immediately hooked and inspired. Ryan does a great job laying it all out in very concise and easy to understand concepts and action items. The book is Otha Zies into very short chapters which I really liked because you could easily knock a few out of short on time. More often than not, I found myself reading much more than “I had time for”. I really appreciate the reading suggestions in the back of the book as stoicism is something that is interesting me more and more the more I read and I’m looking forward to expanding my knowledge with these suggestions. Well done Ryan and thank you. I really needed this book right now.

5. Excellent book, quick read - I picked this book up after seeing it on Tim Ferriss' book club recommendation, I'm glad I did. Very interesting without being pious or preachy. Great examples of great men and women in history and how they used the classics of antiquity guide them through their trials. One caveat, I listened to the Ferriss interview with the author after I bought the book and am glad I did because Mr. Holiday is certainly not a public and does absolutely nothing to bolster his position as a Stoic by publicly speaking. He has found calling and needs to stick with the written word. Why you may ask? Because he sounds like a year old kid living in his parents basement, sounds very unsure of himself, too young, and has accomplishments with which to support his dispensing of Stoic wisdom. But he writes a great book and I'm sure will develop his speaking ability.

6. Ryan moves up a notch... - Big time. I was surprised at the how deep this book was. Almost unexpected. I’ve read all the greats (Steven Pressfield and Jack Canfield among them) and Ryan has totally moved closer to that level (IMHO). I read an old Lifehack article on him and how obsessed he’s been with writing, but had no idea how deep the subject matter was. I’m always on the lookout for stories of triumph in extremely tough situations as opposed to all the usual upbeat motivational books. This is beyond what I had hoped for. Still surprised that someone so young has repurposed this (almost forgotten) almost ancient philosophy for today. I’ve read LOTS of books over the years, but this one definately goes to the head of the class. Thank you Ryan, :

7. An awesomely inspiring read! - I’ve read Ryan Holiday’s previous two books, but this is by far his best work yet. Cheers to Holiday for celebrating the art of failing well rather than casting failure as a necessarily negative life event. We’re all bound to face difficulties, so why not choose to learn from them rather than throw our hands up in the air? Holiday illustrates the stoic way of life by drawing upon a wide array of specific examples involving many of the great leaders, inventors, and thinkers who have embraced stoicism over the centuries. The anecdotes he focuses on are enjoyable to read as tasty nuggets of history. More importantly, each story is relatable, and human. The structure of the book, which is divided into three parts, reflects the threefold philosophy he advocates. I cannot recommend this book highly enough! If you’re anything like me, after finishing, you won’t be able to stop saying: “The obstacle is the way!"

1. Perfect book for what I’m going through. - The ability this book has had to connect and center my emotional state has shocked me. I also wondered why I “over-think” emotional states, feelings, and relationships. Turns out I’m a riser, not a “over-thinker” like my past toxic relationships have framed me to be. Great to know that there is more perspectives you can learn from and dive into. Definitely recommend this book and I’m excited to read another one of Brene’s!

2. Great Content - Difficult Structure - This book does a great job showing the authenticity the authors bring to their work. The conversational tone and pulling-back of the curtains over their personal lives really helped me connect with the principles being discussed. I loved it! The only difficult part about this book was following the structure and piecing together each part to create one complete theme. It was a great read! I highly recommend this book!

1. Incredible Read - After reading this book, I completely scrapped my startup company’s business model for sales and re-wrote it with the Hedgehog Theory in mind. In just under a year, we are on pace to TRIPLE our annual revenue from last year. I’ve become a much better leader and our direction is more clear. I can easily say this is one of the most influential books I’ve ever read. I just hope my competitors don’t pick it up.

1. Excellent concepts for educators! - While this book’s examples take place in a corporate settings, I have found this book tremendously helpful as I endeavor to lead a small group of highly experienced Early Childhood Educators who are independently amazing teachers, but find it difficult to work as a team. I have learned a lot. I am a developing leader myself, and this provides some great insight into the dynamics of teamwork.

2. Love it - I was reading this book as it was recommended as a read for my Jack Welch masters program. I was also part of a new team at my company and was amazed as I read the book how it seemed as if he was describing my teams current struggles. After starting couldn’t stop reading because I was so intrigued as to how it would end… let’s say upon completion I was equipped with the tools to take back to my team for us all to utilize to become stronger together. I will be purchasing more of his books.

3. Another great book! Solid!!! - Had the pleasure of meeting the author this year at Dave Ramsey's EntreLeadership Summit in Dallas last May. What a great, knowledgable author. And a nice man too. Taught me about humble, hungry and smart in building a team from his first book which they gave us at the Summit. Love his writing style. Highly recommend especially if you own a business or are running a team.

4. Great read - As an active duty Marine, this book will help with developing a team. Marines are trained as a team and are taught to adapt and overcome. This book has just opened my eyes a bit more when it comes to encouraging conflicts for the better of the team. I recommend this book for any member of any team. Maybe this book will make the "Commandants Reading List" one day. SemperFidelis Gunny

5. Pleasantly easy to read and helpful. - I had to read this book for work and was worried it was going to be hard to get through. I was definitely wrong. I was hooked from the beginning and finished the book quickly. It's very helpful information and I really enjoyed the style he used to explain the subject. It's worth your time.

6. Enjoyable and insightful read - I am not a business professional, but anyone who gets even a quarter of the way through this book should be able to understand what a difference this book could mean to any team. Me? I'll use it for the band I work with. It can just as easily translate to a sportsteam, religios organization, or anyone who works with others in the pursuit of a vision.

7. Helpful for team-players - I enjoyed reading Dysfunctions of a Team because the book begins with a story about a fictional company, which made the concepts of the book easy to understand. After reading about the fictional story the book goes through the five dysfunctions of a team, and provides anecdotes, in a way the readers can then use for themselves. This is a good book for anyone that has to work with other people in his or her job.

1. Exactly what i needed - IYKYK, this business will beat you down, physically and mentally. Thrilled i bought it as someone who “lives in color” started as a busboy and now a GM for years. Haven’t been this moved since a soul of a chef(and yes i went to culinary school). Simple yet calculated ways of thinking but written so eloquently. I would love to work for this man even as a bus boy.

1. Perspective - We all grew up thinking passion was a beautiful thing, not realizing we inhibit selfish tendencies from it. Touching on so many points that made me evaluate myself as a year old, clearly I have a long way to go until I reach where I want to be. This book made me more excited about my development instead of worrying. stars if I could and I thank you.

2. Accessible, inspirational, and share-worthy book. - Accessible, inspirational, and share-worthy book. I could not more highly recommend this book for those interested in destroying what has otherwise held you back. You will certainly find yourself writing passages down and highlighting like a college student. Treat yourself to this book, and make it an actual book. You will want to be that connected to the words.

3. - It took years for me to finish reading this e-book. . What I liked? Everything. . What I didn’t like? That it took me years to humble myself to actually read/highlight it. It thought that by buying it would be enough. Now the challenge is to re-read it over and over again (sweep over and over again) for the rest of our lives.

4. Ego is the Enemy - Incredible book full of wisdom and real life examples of the messages it is trying to deliver. It spoke to me on multiple levels and will remain by my bedside (with The Obstacle is the Way) forever. I have already given copies of a few on my team at work who I think will benefit from it. The whole team will receive a copy at our off-site retreat in November.

5. Dangerously therapeutic - The first chapters of this book were uncomfortable to read. Ryan seems to have placed a magnifying glass on your soul as he combs through its intricate insecurities. Eventually, you realize it's your ego fighting back in denial. As you read through, a framework for managing the enemy emerges and you walk away better equipped for what lies ahead. The more uncomfortable you are reading this book, the more you need it.

1. Great Book..However - Please for the love of all things Holy FIX THE DARN LAYOUT!! I have this book on Google Books but I was trying to get all my books on Apple but I saw the way the pages were and did an immediate NOPE.. Why this isn’t like the other books where it’s page by page I don’t know. You have to zoom in to read the page then zoom out and go to the next page and repeat the process. Disappointed Apple is asking people to pay for a book that isn’t even done properly. Great book and highly recommended but find another place to get it. APPLE PLEASE FIX!!!

2. Not actually an eBook - zero stars - Turns out this is effectively just a PDF, not an properly formatted eBook. This means the text size, background color, and scroll direction can't be changed, making it very difficult to read. I'm disappointed that this subpar user experience was even permitted in the store in the first place.

3. Stars for content and layout - I almost didn’t buy this version because of some reviews about the format. Perhaps there is some room for user error, but when I realized I could zoom to each column, highlight sections and turn them into flash cards, and watch videos all within this book - I knew I had to write a review. You’ll love this layout on an iOS device. The content is of course phenomenal. I read this book at the start of my career. years in, I’m realizing what a profound impact these principles and Covey’s stories have had on me. Even small paragraph’s contain life-changing nuggets. So good.

4. Great book marred by terrible e-book edition - I agree with the reviews written by ChuckE and Jprennie: One of the best books ever written is presented in about the worst possible way. Some graphics are missing, the rest are hard to read. I wondered why everything about this book moved so slowly until I saw on my MacBook that this e-edition is MB! Are you kidding me? Should be no more than MB. Something is seriously wrong with this edition. Please fix it.

5. Poor graphics - I like the idea of an interactive version of this book, and it's good to have the videos. However, graphics are very small and blurry, and there is no capability to click and enlarge them. Many of the graphics are cut off midway. Please create and updated version with better graphics!

6. This version needs FIXED! - Great book, no question. Unfortunately the original text pictures in my version are cut off on the corners and do not show up correctly, which causes some content to be unviewable!
Also, where is the TIME MANAGEMENT matrix?! It is supposed to be in Habit . The text to discuss Qudrant II is there, but the visual is no where to be found! HELP!

7. Very very horrible edition!! Buyer beware!!!!! - No doubt the habits book is a classic. I have read the original habits book and loved it so much that I thought it would be nice to own the digital edition too. This review is about this horrible th anniversary digital iBook edition. I can't even find words to fully express how annoyed I am. I wish I could get my money back. The videos embedded in the book are of very poor quality. But more importantly the tables and diagrams in the book are incomplete. It makes no sense. This edition does not even have the index of tables referenced by Dr. Covey in various chapters in the book. This is a rip off. Please let me know how I can get my money back. I'm not impressed. From now onwards, kindle will be my go-to ebook application. Reader please beware of this edition.

8. Good book but wordy - I have started to read a lot of leadership books and of course this is one of the most well known. It's a good book however it is kind of wordy which I think makes the book much longer than it needs to be. Surprisingly I found how I could integrate these habits not just in leadership, but my personal life as well. "Interactive" may be a stretch because the only difference than any other iBook is that there are about or so short video segments scattered throughout the book. It is nice to see Stephen talking about some of the principles in the book even if you can tell the video was recorded years ago. Quite honestly the same videos, or ones talking similar things, are most likely on YouTube. P.s.
I'm subtracting one additional star from this version because some of the charts do not show up properly on the iPhone or iPad. Matter of fact I had to google the time management chart because I could not figure out what it was supposed to look like. It is nice that all the charts are in color at least.

9. Overdesigned, hard to read, tan background, hard to read and navigate. Terrible! - Overdesigned and hard to read: the tan background decreases contrast while you're reading and the font sizes differ so greatly from most e books in my iBooks that I had to change my system wide settings just to read this one. The book is harder to navigate than other e books as well. I bought the interactive version first. It's MUCH WORSE than this one. There's NOT EVEN PORTRAIT MODE while reading it, It pushes out two pages at a time as if you only read in landscape mode! When reading a book, I'll decide how I want read it! Thank you very much. Checking out this one was almost as bad as the interactive version. The page breaks for chapters don't even show up or have decent spacing between the end of one section and the beginning of a new chapter! VERY BAD! I want a BOOK. Black letters on a white background and the standard navigation. What's so hard to understand about that? Can't you also sell just a plain white wrapper version of this American Classic, Apple? Some of us just want the same version of the book we have on the shelf for portable reading and reference and working through it one chapter at a time! Only Kindle (which I normally avoid, preferring the Apple ecosystem) has a PLAIN black and white version of the book, the th edition. Is $. but takes some tricks to order it and not have it upgrade you to this "interactive" overdesigned verion. I prefer to have all my books in iBooks, but since Apple doesn't carry a simple version of the book, I was forced into getting it from Amazon. SMH! Apple, fix this! Get the th edition so people have a choice!! I will be asking for my money back for this horrible version!!!

10. Practical, Insightful, Easy to understand - This book is a wealth of information. It is clearly written in an easy-to-understand and easy-to-follow manner, yet so deep and insightful. I learned so much about myself and I gleaned many practical things to implement in my personal life and in the organization that I am a part of. The author talks about how to be efficient with things, and effective with people. He creates a distinction and boils down the problems in personal life, family, churches, and businesses to lack of concrete value systems and a need for paradigm shifts. He then explains the habits necessary to make those necessary changes. This book and it's timeless message should be read and re-read. I plan to go back to it often and I am currently trying to implement the things that I have learned. Excellent read!

11. Easy to understand - Covey counts on people having the knowledge on how to apply his habits, but overall the advice is sound. Despite sounding a bit like a cult leader at times (I actually took the class that accompanies this book) he genuinely believes in his theories. Translating the habits into daily activity takes effort, but once done, positive change will happen. The writing is easy to understand and is well organized, and each chapter takes the time to explain its habit, which makes the book an easy read.

12. Great eBook that contains very nice videos and infographics! - The Habits of Highly Effective People is a classic and one of the best business/management books written ever. The book contains paradigms and principles that will help you to success in your personal and professional life. I specially liked very much the chapters Habit : Be Proactive and Habit : Think Win/Win. This ebook contains videos and nice graphics so this is the most complete version. Must Read!

1. A very unique and creative perspective - Very good book with interesting concepts and that often lead to self evaluation and re-examination/ discovery of my past.

2. Good but not like Talking To Strangers - This was a very interesting audiobook. Gladwell looks at success through a different lens. He examines success not just by hard work but by timing. Gladwell explains the , hour rule - it takes , hours of intense practice to become an expert at something. But success is also a product of timing. The majority of professional hockey players are born at the beginning months of the year coinciding with the youth league age cutoff. Wealthiest men of the Industrial Age are born within years. Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, & Bill Joi born within months of each other. Gladwell also examines how culture plays a part of success too. However, I felt that Chapter on plane crashes which examines cultural reasons for communication breakdowns during flight emergencies didn’t really fit into this book about “success.” After reading Gladwell’s book Talking to Strangers, this book was a bit of a disappointment. Overall it’s a good book but not at the same caliber as Talking to Strangers.

3. Nature vs Nurture - The debate of Nature versus Nurture is an old one. Hero culture, that idea of individual exceptionalism willed from “boot strap” beginnings, prevails heavily in the US. What this vision lacks is the detailed history and nuanced perspective on all of the circumstances that set up success in spite of all other factors. Malcolm Gladwell does another masterful job of diving into the complexities of social psychology; employing his usual story telling narrative style, along with data, and engaging anecdotes. Specifically, this book navigates through relatedness and definitions of IQ, EQ, and SQ. It builds from those foundations to ask how the odd formula of balancing those three along with “lucky” breaks help us see the true story behind success and failure. My individual perspective leads me to believe that who we are comes down to part nature (IQ) plus parts nurture (environment [EQ SQ]). The bigger take away is that we have to really look at, what Gladwell calls the Cultural Heredity, of various scenarios to get to the root circumstances that filter people into successful, average, and failing buckets. Then ask ourselves, is the system itself producing outliers by way of some unseen flaw or is the playing field level and we are really seeing the cream of the crop?

4. Malcom does it again, such great research and insights - This guy is slowly becoming my favorite author. Was introduced to him via the podcast “Revisionist History”. This one follows his usual track record of great material backed by good research. I heard the audio book. So great to hear it from the man himself.

5. Interesting but Not Particularly Actionable - The thesis of “Outliers” is that we are all largely a product of our environments, and that the greatest among us benefit from being part of the right environments in addition to having certain innate talent as a prerequisite. Gladwell’s arguments are informative and salient, but if you’re approaching the book for advice, I don’t think there’s a lot of actionable information.

6. I have never hated a book more - DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME. This book made me want to rip my eyes out so that I wouldn’t have to read it. While some parts were interesting, the rest of the book made me feel either very angry or discouraged. It basically says that a lot of lucky things have to fall into place or else you will be a failure. As I read this horrible book, all I could compare it to were the reading sections of a standardized English test but an ENTIRE BOOK. I should sue Malcom for the lost time and happiness in my life.

7. The problem with logical fallacies posing a books. - If there was a way to reward negative stars this book would’ve been a good canidate for them. I have a great love for reading but this book inspired a poignant hatred inside me that would not go out. Utterly uninspirational this work attempts to give credit to the philosophy that it is not hard work that matters and personal effort but everything aside from that. To quote the esteemed Gladwell “if the resources of the grocer, the fruits of those riots, the possibilities of that culture, and the privileges of that skin tone had been extended to others, how many more would now live a life of fulfillment, in a beautiful house high on a hill?” In this startilingly disjointed book readers will learn oh so essential lessons like how (again to quote Gladewell’s exact words) “the Asian worldview was shaped by the rice paddy.” But not to worry this book is more then just racist bigotry (though that does remain a major aspect) it also follows important and completely unfounded ideas about how essenital cultural ancestry and farming practices are to the educational capiblities of future generations. Make sure to pay attention to his theories on how the reformers of the ninteenth century (who were more focused on temperance and utopian societies then education) based their reforms on western agricultural patterns.

8. Relatively speaking - Dr. Gladwell is supposed to be my most famous living relative, according to and Me, the DNA analyzing company. I think there are some untested among my relatives who might beat him, but I'm not sure. Anyway, I think the answer to the super IQ test is: Teeth to a hen, is the same as Nest is to EGG. Think about it. Hens don't have teeth, concomitantly, eggs don't have nests.

9. Good read - I give this book a out of stars (special people) because I really enjoyed the book. At the beginning I did have a hard time getting into reading the book but as soon as I got into it, it had many interesting stories. This book was useful to me because Malcolm Gladwell said that to be successful, you need to have at least , hours in the area of what you want to be successful in. In the end it was very entertaining for me.

10. Thought provoking. - Outliers is a very good book that is easy to read. I love how Gladwell is able to engage the reader and is very skilled at writing. Outliers provides great concepts regarding the background success of famous people such as Bill Gates. By the end of the book the reader will have a newfound understanding at what it takes to succeed.

11. Outliers - Malcolm Gladwell - How does a person pry open the mind to alternative ways of thinking, particularly a senior mind? I would suggest reading Malcolm Gladwell. This book could be a guide for a manager to help hire and more importantly train employees. It was revealing to learn that many of the generalities that are used to characterize a group, nationality etc are so limited and consequentially so misleading. What are the policy makers using as guide posts in their decision making process? I will be reading more Gladwell books. It along would appear that

12. Thought Provoking - A few months ago, my good friend suggested that I read this book. It sat on my "to-read" bookshelf for a long while. I was dreading the thought of starting the book because I presumed it was a "self-help" or motivational book. I was happy to learn that it was neither. In his book, Gladwell argues that there are common threads with all "outliers" and he supports his position with very well explained examples. Because he uses his great storytelling talents to discuss his "outlier" examples, the book entertains throughout. The book also had a few surprises for me as I was not expecting any discussion relating to patenting and education. At no point in the book does Gladwell begin to offer "advice" but he cleverly (i.e. under the radar) requires his readers to reflect on their own willingness/drive to seize opportunities and work hard. I highly recommend this book for young persons, but not necessarily for children under (especially if they are not strong readers as the material would probably not be able to keep a younger child's attention).

13. True story of success - Outliers will make you rethink what you thought you knew about success. When someone asks you, "Why was Bill Gates so successful?" Most will respond with hard work, ambition, and intelligence. These are three qualities that are required, however, not many people have the insight to look beyond that and see the tremendous opportunities given to him as he grew up. It made me completely rethink why I've been so successful. What advantages have I had in my life? What was it about my parents raising me? It makes you reflect and appreciate the opportunities that you have been given. Very well done.

14. My , hours. - I found "Outliers" to be a very life applicable read. As a year old working professional, it empowered me to become more aware of my up bringing, what may, or may not, help me en route to my own version of "success". I became empowered to seize opportunities and time to receive my , hours and help others reach theirs. Since starting and finishing this book (which is a total of less than one week), I've had multiple conversations about this book, and other relevant topics, with co-workers, individuals with whom I can network, and members of the organization that I serve. Had I not "had the strength and presence of mind to seize” my opportunity to read this book and be around those individuals, I may not be where I will be tomorrow.
2013-08-22
15. Oustanding book. - This was a well-written book that is very understandable and enjoyable to read. I had to read it for school and didn't have high expectations when I picked it up, but I blew through it quickly! Gladwell illuminates the secret to success through stories, facts, and reasoning, and manages to keep it very interesting by giving well-researched backgrounds/stories about many renowned greats. His tone is not preachy or condescending, but rather inspirational, admiring, and reasonable. This is a book that, even a year after reading, has stuck with me in my every day life. His claims are now so apparent and sensible that it is impossible to see success as a random, lucky mystery, but rather as a mix of time, dedication, skill, and a little bit of luck.
2013-02-11
16. Eye Opening - This book is amazingly impressive. It is also reinforces many modern studies and documentaries. Look at the material objectively; someone who may be underprivileged and naturally pessimistic may find excuses to continue along the same path rather than reading for true understanding of the material.

1. Habits is a GAME CHANGER! - I love everything about this book. It provides a precise map on how to get the most out of life, how to maximize human potential. I read it years ago and attended a Covey seminar. I wish I had committed to applying it’s principles then. After reading it a second time I won’t let that happen again. Habits is meant to be kept on the night stand so it can be referenced often. These principles have stood the test of time and will always be relevant. CultureDude

This book is a tool in my bag for sure.

1. Metacognition - Malcom Gladwell simply makes one think about... well, how one actually thinks. “Blink” brings critical awareness of oneself as a thinker and learner. Appropriately thin-sliced into multiple vignettes, “Blink” helps one view problem sets from different perspectives that will expand ones thinking within a nanosecond or blink-of-an-eye.
2021-05-21
2. Counterintuitive - Throughout the entirety of Blink you end up seeing how counterintuitive our first impressions to so many things are. From taste tests, to wartime strategy, and most importantly to how we interpret other people. To start to accept this idea you first have to accept a series of rules. The first is that snap judgments are natural and seem accurate enough for many scenarios. The second is that we can’t play an active part in that snap judgment. The next and probably biggest understanding is knowing which snap decisions to trust and which to actively work against. In his book, “Talking to Strangers,” Gladwell does a great job of explaining that third part, the filter. The filter being CONTEXT of course. In Blink he lays out how we quickly judge, and in the other he dives into how butcher context. For that reason you should absolutely read Blink first, followed closely by “Talking to Strangers.” All of this is done in Gladwell’s well established style. That trademark elaborate journey layered with anecdotes, tests, and expert insights that all combine to demonstrate powerful patterns. It’s how you wish we learned most everything. At least in an exploratory sense. Seeding the curiosity, watering it, and waiting for that lightbulb like bloom that represents the “aha” moment.

3. Great Book - Malcolm Gladwell is a masterful author and did a wonderful job if taking complex concepts and explaining them simply and thoroughly through use of illustrative stories and anecdotes. It really made me think about things I never thought I would. I would highly recommend this book to anyone looking to expand their understanding of how psychology affects our day to day life.
2019-08-12
4. Blink -the power of the unconscious - Blink is a book about how we think without thinking, how sometimes our conscious does things we are unaware of. Throughout this book Gladwell discusses certain incidents where people felt a certain way about something but didn't know why. When they saw a certain statue and they "felt as though there was a glass between me and the work." Or when they did an experiment on couples to see if they were right for each other within five minutes the psychologist could tell and although they may seem like they were they weren't because once you'd look deeper into them something so obvious but so not, you'd come to the realization that they were missing a fact that these couples werent truly stating what they really felt. Overall the book gives great insight on how your conscious works and how easily we can do certain things to manipulate our mindset. Such as taking a simple test and all of a sudden behaving differently because of certain subtle words and not realize it. The book provides you with facts along with examples to better understand it. Gladwell does an excellent job on proposing his statements on how the unconscious works without the use of too much jargon but rather captivating stories and examples. I would definitely recommend this book to a friend. Especially to those who are into learning more about how the brain works and how easily one can be manipulated, and or aspiring journalists. The best part about this book is that it's not only interesting but also an easy read. Its also a great book for those who are into learning random facts such as the reasons the "new coke" didn't work out yet no one liked the old one.

5. Phenomenal! - I have listened to this book on audio about times…..it is read by the author. I found this to be the most validating piece of information I have ever heard…..what we know without even knowing. It may be a piece that requires the reader be ready to hear and to take in the information as it is not in any way superficial. This author has really done his research…..Highly recommend.

6. Outside point of view - This is certainly very interesting subject and author does fairly decent job of exploring it, but it all comes in form of a reporter. Someone looking In from outside. Author does not share any personal experience with the subject and you can distinctly feel the lack of his own experience in the way he does not know how to relate the information he gets across mostly in form of anecdotes you probably already read about anyway if you are interested in the subject. This topic would be much better served by a different author with more personal insight into the issue. It has the feel to it that author is just writing this to make money rather than being genuinely interested in what he writes about. The book sort of starts well with a decent introduction of the subject in the first half, but it sort of goes in all directions through series of random anecdotes in the second half and becomes very chaotic without any overall idea being presented or any sort of direction whatsoever.

1. Terrific methodology, even if the book itself is hard to get through - I love the GTD methodology and highly recommend it to anyone and everyone, for use in both personal and professional environments. But boy, this book is loooong. I feel like % of the book is only about convincing the reader why GTD is so great, and only % is an actual guide to the concepts. Unless you’re a fast reader, I would recommend people just read an online summary of GTD and then read the full book later, rather than wait to finish the book before implementing the GTD system in your life. (Or you could check out the book “Getting Things Done for Teens”, which I’ve heard is significantly less dense and more practical, regardless of the reader’s age.)

1. Just what I needed at the right time - This book is being read at a time I am inundated with huge volumes of distraction at work, and in home-based projects. Email, social media, endless calls, meetings, supposed emergencies, etc. Now I have ideas on how to tackle the noise and will set up ways to measure my successes—or lack of successes.

2. Good Reminder. Wish book was more concise. - Certainly a good reminder of why depth in work matters. Book was only average in insights and riddled with personal stories. Main points could be written in pages or so. In fact, reading all the words in this book would be classified as “shallow work”.

3. Life changing - I decided to make the goal of finishing this book while on vacation after hearing so many great things. It certainly didn’t disappoint. I now have the appropriate mindset of taking my mindshare back (think social media and distractions) that gives me that deep, slightly disturbing feeling that leaving these distracting habits behind is what will propel me forward in the things I wanted to do. Without going too specific, if you seek what I seek, (control of your mind, time, and space) the chance to do work that you’ll be proud of when your time’s up, don’t waste it. 4. Definitely study this book—it will make a big difference in your life. - I listen to a lot of self-improvement books. I judge the value of a book by how much it helps me make powerful, positive changes for good in my life. I can honestly say that this book has been by far the best book in that regard. I work in a professional services industry where the concept of “deep work” is often considered something that “computer” people do. By employing the principles detailed in this book I have been able to make some amazing progress on one particular project which is enabling me to really stand out nationwide in the niche area in which I specialize. My practical advice to someone considering this book is to buy it and really pay attention to to the key ideas that Cal Newport discusses. Then, once you have the ideas in mind, really think about how they can apply to your particular situation. There are a lot of industries where people neglect the principles taught in this book. Those who do study these “deep work” concepts and focus on applying them will begin to see themselves standing out above their peers in new and impressive ways. As a matter of full disclosure, this is not some paid review and I don’t know Cal Newport nor have any relationship with him (although I would like to meet him someday, shake his hand, and thank him for writing such a powerful book).

5. Amazing Tips, Has extraneous content - The beginning of the book is just amazing. He clearly outlines what deep work is and the techniques you can use to integrate it in your life. Towards the end, there ends up being a long drawn out conclusion involving content about how to manage your emails which I found to be slightly minute and beside the point. The concepts of attentional residue, and focusing on one thing for extended periods of time to push your cognitive limits is a concept that is not even thought of by most people. Training you cognition is a huge thing to prioritize in life. It also has me thinking about how I will learn things from now on. Rather than focusing on simply having the skills in my classes, I will instead focus on understanding it at the deepest level by mastering the most cognitively demanding components.

6. Great points, but a difficult read - I enjoyed the valuable points in this book, but I found it to be difficult to read. I kept having to start back at the beginning of a paragraph to grasp the point, which became fatiguing. In addition to this, I appreciate and agree with Cal’s points on social media (and how it inhibits our ability to work deeply), but he states that friends made over social media are assumed to be light in nature. My anecdote: I’ve made several very close friends over social networks. He lost me at this part.

7. Clear & Aspirational - This is one of the best books I have ever read on the topic of focused work. The blend of storytelling and strategizing is seamless, and helps the reader start to gameplan on how they will integrate the concepts into their own practice. I believe this is a timeless book that, at least in my case, will continue to add value to my practice of deep work for the rest of my life. Thank you Dr. Newport.

1. Very Useful - I highly recommend this book for anyone who seems to act as their own worst enemy. I know I did, and did not realize it until after I listened to this book on tape. After searching I Tunes for similar books, this book really stuck out to me because of the author's credentials. However, I found myself looking forward to learning more from Shirzad, since his content has helped me differentiate between the negative thoughts that would really bog me down from the constructive ways of thinking that have helped me in my personal and professional life. Shirzad's tone of voice is very comforting, and can enliven the "Sage" in any listener. Please listen to this book, and utilize this knowledge in your lives for your own happiness and success.

2. Inspirational yet Pragmatic: A Must Read! - What a gold-mine of a book! An extremely useful text for increasing performance, success and happiness. As the author states: much like Sisyphus--the mythological king who was forced to roll a boulder to the top of a hill every day only to watch it roll back down in the evening--our best efforts to achieve our goals or increase our happiness often unravel. Though we frequently try to attribute our failure to others or uncontrollable circumstances, Shirzad Chamine shows in this book that it's usually due to our own self-sabotage. Over the course of his engaging and incredibly pragmatic text, Chamine hammers home the point that though our minds are sometimes our best friends, they are often our worst enemies. He describes our minds as having both Sage and Saboteur powers, each corresponding to different regions of our brains: the PQ Brain (Sage) and the Survivor Brain (Saboteurs). The more we are able to activate our PQ Brain and our Sage, the higher our Positive Intelligence Quotient (PQ) becomes. Chamine uses numerous research and anecdotal examples to make a compelling argument that people and teams with higher PQ achieve more and are happier across all aspects of their lives. Through both his sound argument and a myriad of my own personal experiences, I believe it! The thing I love most about this book is how serious it is about affecting positive change. It's not some loose framework or a series of things to "think about." It's actually about giving the reader an accessible toolkit to improve the way they experience life, affect their colleagues, and pursue their goals. From tools like Sage Power Games to the Three Gifts Technique, Chamine presents easy-to-do, CEO-tested techniques that actually make a difference. In fact, I've been so pleased with his PQ Reps technique ( second intervals of returning my focus to my breath and five senses) that I've shared it with multiple of my fellow entrepreneurs, friends, and family. Chamine states at the beginning of the book, "I encourage you to have high expectations for this book...[it] can change your life and be a game-changer for your team. Please don't settle for anything less." I haven't settled and, thus far, it's been a terrific ride!

1. Outstanding Read! - Adam Grant combines great storytelling with scientific evidence that being a Giver can drive success and fulfillment. Each chapter makes you want to continue to read the one after. He also provides resources to put the principles of the book into action. One of the best books that I've read.

2. Valuable Insights - Had the opportunity to hear Dr. Grant at a Knowledge@Wharton conference and what struck me by this unassuming person is his ability to connect to the audience without all the "bravado" you usually have take part-in-parcel with the presentation - none of that was present, as he communicated with audience as a friend, wanting them to achieve their successes through understanding, rather than understanding his success (and the experience is continued in "Give and Take") - overall, a worthwhile experience from the man, and his book....

1. Great book, a little lengthy - I really wished that the author would’ve spent more time on discussing the concept of destructive abundance and providing more insight and solutions. I felt there were too many comparisons to the military and not enough to real world day to day situations that the majority of the population could relate to such as job hunting and working for a small business. Overall, great read but a little lengthy in some unnecessary areas.

2. Great! - What a great book. Was able to put across in a very positive manner not only the pit falls of modern technology but some very practical solutions. Working with young people, I know that it is not all doom and gloom. With a little patience, understanding and open mind we can all live a happy and productive life.

3. Great read; full of important ideas on leading - Simon Sinek has an awesome way of verbalizing the points he makes in a way that make sense to anyone. This book uses a lot of colorful examples on how leadership can be learned, utilized and benefit us on an interpersonal level. If you’re interested in reading about leadership and thoughts about what people expect from their leaders, this is a must read. One of the best and most inspiring books I’ve read in a while.

4. Be ready to apply concepts to all aspects of your life - I read this book with the intention of learning some leadership skills that I could apply at work. My expectations were clearly limited compared to what I'm leaving with with. This book is jam packed with concepts that can be applied to all aspects of your life. This is not a quick, light read... if you allow yourself to truly comprehend the concepts and apply them, I believe anyone would find the kind of enrichment I have.

5. Great insights - This was an excellent book. It explains the biological component of working with and building trust with people. Simon uses the concept of a Circle of Safety to show how leaders need to work for their employees within that circle to ensure that they feel safe and can thrive. He gives many recent historical examples of how generational attitudes have created conditions that may allow for the circle of safety to fail when leaders violate the rule of taking care of others before themselves. The military uses the phrase "Leaders Eat Last" to characterize that rule, and Simon takes it and applies it accross the corporate spectrum. He presents a lot of science in this book, but not in a geeky, hard-to-understand way. But his does back up his discussion with facts. The book is also well documented in the end notes. One of the big things I'll walk away with is how abundance and success can be destructive if not kept in perspective.

1. Spectacular book! - This was one of the best memoirs I ever read. Bob was very candid about his experience as a CEO and his career before then which made for a very inspiring and informative book. I feel as if I have profound insight on the way he has been able to succeed all these years. Also loved learning about Steve Jobs from his perspective!

2. Interesting career ride and advice - The majority of this book is very interesting and enjoyable to read. I especially enjoyed reading about Bob’s relationship with Steve Jobs. I rated this book three stars because the final chapters seemed rushed and are nothing more than deals and negotiations. I found them boring and it tainted my overall opinion of the book.

3. Wonderfully inspiring - Bob writes with day to day activities that anyone could be challenged with and gives very little direct advice. The readers can relate directly to the actions this great CEO and man take and apply directly to our own lives. Thank you Bob! I particularly relate to the ending of the book. Wonderful writing and story telling.

4. Leadership with Care - He is the type of leader we should all have and/or be. Sticking to your core beliefs, trusting yourself and allowing others the same while continuing to create with vision are much biggest takeaways. I loved learning about Disney and the inter workings of a company that’s been around for so long.

5. What’s South Park do I own that? - For cinema and entertainment mainly for adult audiences the Walt Disney company needs to be broken up before they take control of all industries through their endless buying out companies among other practices to avoid competition. Animated movies are cancer. They need to stop buying everything and ruining it with woke p.c. Disney makes terrible movies and tv shows with identity politics.

6. A true leadership memoir - Bob Iger’s leadership philosophy so closely matches what I aspire to — a relentless pursuit of perfection. In my Christian Leadership class my junior year of high school, we were urged to write mission statements. I wrote then and still abide by “pursuing excellence and challenging mediocrity.” This book encourages you to take risks and do just that. I cannot recommend this book enough.

7. Great Biography - I picked up this book because this is written by someone who ran Disney. Needless to say, this book contains valuable lessons about not only running a successful media company, but also becoming a good person with good abilities and right mindset in the business of competitions and partnerships.

8. More than a pleasant surprise - As a longtime Disney enthusiast I was aware of the journey the Walt Disney Company had taken following the death of Walt Disney, and how Disney ultimately found its way, but I did not have a comprehensive overview of that journey until I read this book and understood how Disney’s leaders managed it. Beyond this is Mr Iger’s own, very American story; starting at the bottom and working his way up, having his company acquired and then moving up from there, and eventually taking his new company to heights that no one could have previously imagined. Beyond the fact that its writing is honest and clear, what makes this a great read is that the person telling his story, Mr Iger, appears to be one those rare people of considerable ability who remains more aware and appreciative of what those around him have to offer. This allowed him to work for (and with) any number of out-sized but talented personalities (including Roone Arledge , Michael Eisner, Michael Ovitz, Steve Jobs, George Lucas and Rupert Murdock) and not only do well for himself and those trusting him, but come away from the encounter a better and more capable person.. The fact that someone as brilliant and difficult as Steve Jobs could grow to like and trust Robert Iger as a good friend is itself no small thing. The fact that Robert Iger managed to tell this story with empathy and a dose of humility, is nothing short of amazing. If you like reading about: large corporations thriving in a time of disruptive innovation, or all things Disney, or learning how to be a better leader, you are going to really like this book.

9. An easy, must read - If you’re a Disney fan, this book is an absolute must read and pairs quite nicely with The Imagineering Story, the documentary series that was released on Disney . From his early days to the premier of Avengers: Endgame, what’s great about this book is how it covers nearly all the most recent Disney related events. It’s often frustrating reading biographers that are many years outdated as some of the challenges and questions within them have been publicly addressed and resolved. This book concludes at the end of . But beyond the obvious Disney connection, what helps this book along is how approachable the writing is, making even all the multi-billion dollar business decisions that helped get Iger to where he is today an understandable affair. And if you’re fascinating by the world of corporate America and the challenges a CEO faces, there are lots of good lessons to be learned here. Can’t wait for Iger to write more.

10. Excellent Read - I have always been interested in Disney and I enjoyed reading this book. Never dull, Robert does a great job of outlining his career and how he got to be the CEO of Disney. Back stories, headlines.....all covered in interesting detail and a very human touch to the book to boot. Enjoyable reading for a layman and also good subject matter for future leaders...whether it be in large corporations or small non profit charities.

11. Great Book on Leadership - What Bob Iger has out in this book, everyone should read. Most especially business leaders, managers, and anyone who had to iterate on the day-to-day for others. Bob is concise and insightful and what he puts forward in this book may seem like common sense, but in reality is needed all offer the world.

12. Good memoir, don’t read if you’re looking for career advice - I enjoyed this book and think Bob tells his story and the stories of his colleagues well. It is a memoir of his professional life more than a book on leadership. He gives a few pieces of practical advice that are highlighted at the end of the book such as “Find good talent, ...trust your instincts, etc.”. The rest of the book describes his jobs in the entertainment business in detail and throughly explains his leadership decisions to acquire Pixar and other giant companies. Overall it’s a great book I recommend to anyone interested in the entertainment industry.

13. Authentic to the core - Bob Iger is so open in this book about his time at ABC and then at Disney all the way to leading the company for years as CEO. His humble style of leading and not accepting anything but the best is why Disney has done so well since he’s been at the helm. I would recommend this book to anyone who is a leader, or aspiring to be one. This book is also great for any fan of Disney and the enter workings of such an amazing company. out of !

14. Extraordinary! - This book is truly inspirational and encourages people, who are interested in working for the entertainment industry, to work hard no matter what. Through his own experiences from starting from the bottom to the top, he shares the advice he’s received and shares it with the world. He’s the best CEO Disney has had in years since Roy and Walt Disney.

15. Brilliant and inspiring read - Bob Iger is a visionary who takes the reader for a ride of a lifetime from beginning to end. I couldn’t put this book down. I didn’t want to put this book down. He’s gives readers priceless leadership nuggets. This is the perfect book for those who are looking for guidance to lead any organization—big or small. I’m inspired my Iger’s honesty and transparency. His memory is sharp, which makes his storytelling rich. I’ll recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a good read!

16. The Ride of a Lifetime - This book is a must read for everyone. Not only does it make you really appreciate the Disney brand. It reminds you of the basic values that make not only businesses great but when used in your everyday relationships with friends, family and everyone you come in contact will make the world a better place to be. Thanks for writing this, the optimism of the book was something most of us need on a day to day basis.
