1. Changed how I view my life and the world around me - Bought this on audiobook today it will be my fourth reading, I first read this book back when it was first published. It’s groundbreaking work that should make us all inspect and re-evaluate all of our approaches to risk and uncertainty and think best with how we are best prepared for the unforeseen and high-impact events that conventional models either assign an incorrect probability or the type of event is simply unforeseeable (aka the “Turkey Problem”). This works on all levels so there are lessons to be found for us all as individuals, parents, families … governments. This book is not for those who benefit from government bailouts!

2. Few refreshing ideas but a bit outlandish and too long - Interesting book with a few good takeaways and original ideas. Could be much shorter though. There are some topics where the author is trying to be too bombastic/outlandish but that’s understandable- the book sells better that way. Also, his obsession with being against the Gaussian distribution becomes a little irritating later in the book- he just keeps repeating himself.

3. Good read for science illiterates - Autobiographical meanderings that total up to one simple idea, life is unpredictable.
As the son of an engineer, I learned early in life that the governing principle of
engineering is called, light-heartedly, "Murphy's Law." Though many corollaries
have been developed over the years, like "the time it takes to complete a project
will expand to the time allotted," the main thesis is that, "anything that can go
wrong, will go wrong, and at the worst possible time." Taleb does make one good
point in a previous book he authored, the soft sciences are not science at all.
Anything that involves humans is unpredictable because we have the ability to
predict, and thus antiicpate and alter the future. Inadvertantly perhaps, he provides a very simple and logical definition of Free Will.

4. Great on multiple levels - This book is a roller coaster — fast and slow. It left indelible marks before and after i read it in , and in repetitions since then. Densely packed, but packed that for good reason… name Taleb could find no better way. His heated passion for subjected matter comes through again and again. Not light reading material — but takes repetition and time to digest. Can be thrilling, dizzying like a roller coaster. But unlike the primarily entertainment focus of a roller coaster Taleb’s entertainment goal not main one.

5. Black Swan a Must Read... - This book crystalized something I first sensed the day after /… That unexpected, epic events often play out just the opposite of conventional wisdom and are often misinterpreted in hindsight. Because of this need to explain things that could not be predicted, we live in a sort of false history and seem to be painting ourselves into a corner in terms of laws and rights and wars in a sad effort to stop events we can't possibly predict. Taleb is a true genius.

6. Wow. - Honestly and embarrassingly I purchased this book thinking the movie "Black Swan" was based off it. It isn't. Clearly. Having said that, this is one of the most interesting reads I've ever had. While it feels like a text book, the author does a marvelous job of enveloping you in his theories. The iPad version is great as many times ive found myself using the dictionary and wiki links... Which has furthered my understanding and enjoyment of this text. Highly recommended.

1. Realistic & Research grounded - Nick does an excellent job embedding research based content, and his own personal experiences. There are no arbitrary rules such as saving % of your monthly income. Instead, readers are presented with two foundational skills: Saving & Investing. Many of the tips offered shed light on common financial misconceptions that are actively shared by media i.g don’t buy a cup of coffee everyday or the taking risk. Readers can easily begin to apply the concepts Nick mentioned and put his ideas to the test by going through the multitude of resources he utilized when crafting this book. I would like to shout out alexandbooks_ on IG for sharing this wonderful book. He does thousands of reviews on books, and this was amongst his top ten.

1. What a mess - The title isn’t to say the book is bad in any way; it is an incredible book to read. But by god, I never realized what a dumpster fire LTCM was. It’s genuinely amazing to read this book and know that a decade after LTCM’s end, the hubris and arrogance of Wall Street would ravage the US economy. Amazing read, /, would recommend to anyone who wants a greater understanding of LTCM and its short but eventful history.

2. A financial Greek tragedy - The financial crisis isn’t a warning or a lesson, it’s a tragedy that could’ve been avoided if only one looked ten years back at the teachings of a much more contained tragedy. This is a story that is often ignored but serves as the father of black swan events that have happened since and will continue to occur in the future.

3. A riveting, cautionary tale - This fascinating story, masterfully told, proved prophetic in light of the later financial crisis and government bailout of Wall Street in . My only negative criticism of this text is the poor proofreading of the final chapters that contain a number of distracting typos.

1. Great insight to SAC Capital - I couldn’t keep this book down for a week! Great insight into how hard it is to prove insider trading and how one of the wealthiest man in the world yields his power to protect himself from prosecution. Author did a great job gathering evidence and telling stories from analysts, traders, SEC, FBI, and all related parties.

1. Skewed - The book is skewed towards the statist, authoritarian, totalitarian point of view. If the statement "OFCs contain an estimated $. billion in private wealth” is true, offshore wealth is no problem. I suspect that like other parts of the book, this is an error of at least orders of magnitude. The author seems to like control and doesn't like people being free. The main use of the book should be as a cheap way to research using wealth management so you are prepared if needed. Ignore the extreme authoritarian spin that the statist masters like from this type of book.
