2. Amazingly candid - Wow! Anthony leaves no details out of this book. He is so candid and honest and he has been through quite a lot in his life. I knew he had suffered some drug problems but I never knew to what extent. This is truly one of the longest books I have ever read by a famous musician and once again it’s because he is so graphic in a wonderful way. He is incredibly self-aware, descriptive and apologetic from any of his actions. This is without a doubt one of the best if not the best autobiography I have ever read. Thank you Anthony for sharing your life with us and please keep making music.

3. Honest moving story - A great autobiography. Anthony comes across as honest as they come. Tells the story of his unstructured childhood and the rise of the RHCP in matter of a fact fashion not focused on glorifying himself. Cool to see the relationships with his band mates. Great insight into his thinking during the battle with addiction. Interesting insight in his character as he strives and mostly succeeds in staying faithful to various girlfriends despite the temptations of the road. Like Anthony before respect him a lot more now.

Healing - Reading this book is mesmerizing, like watching a train wreck in super slow-mo, simultaneously wanting to make it stop while not being able to tear your eyes from the inevitable, fascinating wreckage. Whitnessing AK’s seemlingly endless battle with addiction unfold; descent into hell, recovery, pause, repeat, is painful. But, as the horror unfolds and the revolving door of muses float in and out of his life, he also gives a priveleged view into his creative process as well as that of an amazing group of artist, and the evolution of their music. All the joy, beauty, artistry, friendship and glee is there, along with the pain, loss, exaustion and powerlessness of addiction. This book offers insight to any fan of their music, and a cautionary tale of hope and redemption for those of us battling similar demons. Thank you Swan, for sharing your journey with us.

1. That Rock Lifestyle - This memoir was good not great, despite its being on multiple must-read listicles. What is interesting about it is the opportunity to hear the behind the scenes stories behind some of the biggest bands of my teenage years. What was missing is more of the details and meaning behind each song a la Dolly Parton’s recent memoir. Though I do appreciate the transparency on his relationship with Kurt Cobain and that period which was fraught with craziness. One other disconcerting aspect is that Dave hops back and forth between periods a lot so you have to do some of the work to keep what’s happening straight. However, the book being non-linear may also be reflective of his personality as he tries to get across when he says he lets the universe have its way in his life. All in all, it added a lot of color to a high energy and interesting persona you only know from his music. The stories further highlight the eccentricities you would expect with a rock and roll lifestyle. What we ultimately learn is that Dave Grohl is like the rock equivalent of Dolly Parton in how he bridges genres and a who’s who of music and society titans. The root of this connective energy is found in the theme carried all throughout the book. That being the connective power of music itself. The shared experience of the chorus of a song blasting over our car radios as we navigate a scorching summer. Or the reminiscing that is triggered when long forgotten tune pops up on your playlist. If this memoir is anything, it’s a great example of how the stories of our lives are inextricably linked to music.

At first it felt all over the place but it was neat to read about all the connections you might not have known about. The book is mostly in chronological order, and I highly recommend it for anyone who wants to know more about XXXTENTACION’s life and experiences. Regardless of if you love or hate him, you can get something out of this read. The experiences X went through can help us reflect on ourselves and how we treat eachother. This book also features tons of interviews of people who knew X and help piece the story together. Overall amazing read.

5. A Rollercoaster of what Struggle and hardship really means - Nikki Sixx is a living (barely) example of a man who figured life out. He went down every path a man can go down and made it back to tell the tale. Reading this book, for me, was a relateable journey of self realization. And ive NEVER even gone near any drugs except weed. It just goes to show how many people suffer from depression and how many people would do anything in there power to make it stop. As Chris Cornell said, "Love heals all wounds with time" and Nikki proved that with this year in the life diary. Every day he lived through was a struggle and I dont care how happy you say you are, nobody is perfect. Nikki put everything into this and more, he even had his bandmates and friends join in and give their opinions because thats what self realization is about. I think everyone out there that struggles with any form of depression should read this book. I suffered from a deep personal depression that didn't reach anywhere outside of my own head. And to read this book and know that a lot of Nikki's struggles were similar to mine is so comforting. The parallels and connections in this book to me were uncanny. For example, Nikki died on my birthday, and also was married on my birthday. To me that shows that even when a day is remembered as a day of infamy, it can always be replaced and fixed by a day of joy. The real message in this book isnt about drugs for me. Its about life and how to get back up even when your buried six feet deep. When life gets tough, its up to you to turn it around. I believe that is where Nikki was going with this book, and he surely succeeded. Thank you Mr. Sixx for having the courage to not only release these diary entries, but also use them to help people like myself. You are an inspiration, and I honestly feel like I know you after reading this. You are a hero, and I know you'll be glad to hear, this book definitely did help at least one person. 7. An understanding of addiction - I picked up this novel at a bookstore about years ago not knowing what to expect. I've never been a big fan of Crue, but I've respected what they have done for the music industry. I knew a little bit about Nikki and his dealings with drugs. years ago, at the age of , I lost my father to addiction of a different kind (alcohol). I spent many years trying to understand what he was dealing with, why he did what he did, and what affect it had on my life. Since my early 's I've battled with my own demons and tried to make sure my relationship w/ the bottle wasn't a need-based one. After reading this book, I gained an intense insight into the world of addiction, and finally gained an inner understanding into my father's downward spiral. This is an amazing book for anyone who has struggled with addiction or knows someone that has been a victim of it.

I had a brother that didn't make it through an addiction and I now can understand some of what he dealt with when trying to quit drugs and lead a better life. Hopefully it will help others who are drug dependent make a choice to discontinue use.

Amazed - I'm a life long Crüe fan but had no idea the behind scenes Nikki's life was, I thought it was a glamorous party life that anybody wanted, now I can see that the struggles he had, some we can all relate to. 13. Thank you - I've always been a motley fan, especially of Nikki, but never identified with addiction or teenage angst. I was the perfect child in my perfect family, but this book helped me see how my very imperfect brother suffered inside our white picket fence. I understand a little more now about the deep pain that addiction stems from. My brother is a recovering addict -three years sober-and this book has helped me initiate some honest and healing conversations with him. Thanks to Nikki for his candor.

14. Crazy but I Love it!! Reels me in! - I am definitely not a "reader" (actually hate to read even though I am a teacher) but this book reels me in!! So crazy that he is sane enough in his drugged up state to essentially be his own psychiatrist &so honest in his journals about knowing he didn't want that life for himself however can't stop the insanity. Also I can really get into this book where he is "messed up" but yet couldn't stick with his other book "This is gonna hurt" he wrote when he was sober. Don't quite know what that says about me????

15. Excellent Read Very Grafic and insightful - As a person who can truthfully say I have never read a book from cover to cover. I read this book front to back in days. I couldn't wait to read what was going to come next. Nikki I give you all the credit in the world for laying that time in your life out for everyone to read wether it changes the way they look at you good or bad. It also shows that no matter how far you fall you can fight your way to the top. Nikki you are an inspiration to anyone who has or has had an addiction problem. You proved it could be overcome. A warning to parets this is not a book for kids under a certain age. What that age is is up to you and depends on how mature your child is. i would suggest that parents read it first before just handing it over for the teenagers to read. 16. What the hell! - A friend of mine loaned it to me and I couldn't put it down. So I had to go buy it for myself to read it again. Worth every penny. The journal entries are mostly chaotic at best, but gripping as hell. Anybody normal person would've died having do what he did, as often as he did. Buy it and read it.

Piano Adventures does the best job of adding one new concept at a time and then reinforcing the idea thru the music. Some of the other seem to jump around and don’t really do great at presenting he new ideas in a way that sticks.

1. Must Read For A True Blink Fan and A Fan of Music - The book was amazing. I couldn't put it down. I have wanted to read it for a while now and finally got it last week. It was incredible. It started off with his child hood and growing up. It went into not just blink but every project he was apart of. It was a tell-all about his life. Some parts were hard to read but in my opinion still very well written. He's a rockstar and he proves it through this book. He's always had that attitude. It shows how hard he has worked and for so long to become who he is. It also shows a great side of him that's a father. He truly loves his kids and it's a great read for anyone with children as well.

2. Highly addictive - I received this book as a Christmas gift and literally could not put it down. Travis and his author do an amazing satisfying job in telling his life story from beginning to present. You feel like nothing is held back and Travis just lays it all out in the open, so raw and brave. Definitely recommend this read. I finished it in one week, mind you I have three children! But that's how good this book is.

1. Highly Recommend - Like countless others, I have always loved Fleetwood Mac's Rumours album. This book gave a detailed account of the making of that amazing album. I appreciate that the writer provided an honest portrayal of himself and the others, even when it was less than flattering. It made me feel as though I was getting the real story, the whole truth. As you read this book, have your Rumours cd ready to play. As the writer discussed work on a song, I felt compelled to play the song, listening for the sounds he was describing.

6. Good insight - Victor gives good insight as to how he feels about the whole "music thing". I found the way he shares his views interesting and engaging. His book really shines a light on how to approach the process of music. I think it unlikely anyone interested enough to read these reviews would be disappointed with the book.

7. good lessons - The message of this book, and it's connecting dots to understand the importance and significance of music and being a musician are worth the price. The stories are a little hard to take in places, and the venturing into outright mysticism and dreamscapes ultimately weakens the practicality of the lessons. All in all, it's a worthwhile read, whether or not you're a mucisian.

8. Incredible! - The Music Lesson by Victor Wooten is easily one of my favorite books of all time. The way he ties music into the spiritual world is eye-opening. I went through a spiritual transformation while reading this book (which is continuing to this day) and the book definitely changed my life in a great way. I've borrowed this book out to about other people by now, and even if spirituality isn't your thing, the actual music lessons within the journey are fantastic. Don't hesitate, buy this book now! I've actually bought about copies and given them to musical friends and even one of my college professors, because I love this book.

1. Fascinating - At nearly pages, this book is pretty hefty read. As a Who fan who saw the band in Berlin, Germany in and , this look into “Moon the Loon” was a must-read for me. The author does a good job of giving us a ring-side seat to the crazy, out-of-control life (and death) of one of rock’s most colorful characters. By the end of the book you realize that in so many ways he was very much like Robin Williams, covering his depression, pain and insecurities with humor and antics. Both ultimately died with even their closest friends not knowing about their demons. If I have one complaint, this book could have been edited down in length because much of what is written is said at length over and over.

1. Great Bands Featured - Being a huge fan of many of the bands featured I devoured the book as fast as a hardcore song. I enjoyed every band segment and learned good information about the people who make up the bands. The different reasons the bands worked and the reasons why they don’t. The reason I didn’t give stars is some of the segments tended to be on the long side especially if you aren’t really into the band.

1. Great book, easy to read - My thanks goes out to GK, awesome man and doesn't speak negative of the legend he remembers. Really interesting to hear he met Elvis very young and they made a special friendship. GK was part of the Memphis Mafia but also had a full time job as a well respected DJ. His business and personal life came full circle with Elvis. This isn't a dark days book about Elvis, it's a happy book. Big Elvis fan and reader and I enjoyed the book. 1. Brilliant! - What a fantastic read... A must for anyone who lived though the all of the turbulence of the s and Self awareness of the s or the self aggrandizement of the s... Not only is the author chronicalizing the music and culture of the "canyon" itself but it's also an incredible treatise of all American culture as a whole... a clear and concise distinct roadmap as to how we got to where we are as a nation. Exquisitely composed and written, it makes you yearn for the time when misspent youth was the norm... Mr Walker takes you on a trip through time and space to Laurel Canyon a sociology experiment like no other, and dissects it in front of you with every page... Well worth the read... Just brilliant great writing by the author.

2. Entertaining yet semi-fictional, contrary to actually categorization - Now to start off, I like this book. It served its purpose of reminiscent entertainment for hippies and their offspring, anyone at all really who is craving juicy s and s celebrity gossip and stories would love this book. However, there are quite a few assertions, quotes, facts & figures, that very clearly lack citation, research, specific source information, etc. This would not be a problem, except for the fact that the book is categorized as non-fiction, and presents itself not only as a fact-filled, truthful account of Laurel Canyon and the music scene of LA in the s and s, but also provides insightful, yet, again, factually baseless accounts of the evolution of the drug culture in the histories of both the US and the UK. Thus, be warned that this is not technically non-fiction and should be ingested with a large grain of salt and honestly, might do better in the fiction section, due to the aforementioned 'facts' it espouses. Do enjoy though! Rather entertaining and anecdotal, as historical pop culture accounts go.
