1. The Man Who Invented Romance - Frank Sinatra: teach your children the name and have them grow up with his music playing in your home. The velvety baritone, the shy and sly romancer, the cool cat who defined the term. He wore suits, he drank brown liquor and smoked cigarettes, he loved women, he was also a man’s man. He was the definition of the American Male when the United States caught the world’s imagination and made our culture large. He wept, he triumphed, he won trophies and he loved broads. He made his mark.

1. As usual an even higher standard! - Congratulations on this one! Loved the work and the richness of your voices. I keep being surprised, and I have been a fan of yours... so was my Uncle Ray( in the UK). Thank you for reminding me all over again, that a true standard song.... is anything but that, when it’s being sung by you, Barbra.

2. Partners - I am a huge Streisand fan but as usual what the majority of the public really likes I found "ok". But! there are a few gems that I really thought were quite good. "It Had To Be You" I thought was quite good. "I Still Can See Your Face" was haunting. "How Deep Is The Ocean" was so sad I wanted to go and hug my mother. I really like the intro To "What Kind Of Fool" and last was "Love Me Tender" which also had a terrific intro and I thought sentimental for the King.

3. Exquisite! - Once in a blue moon, along comes a MASTERPIECE!
In an age of homogenized music, Partners reminds us what it feels like to be moved by beautifully, thoughtfully, crafted music. It’s a pleasure to hear music that pulls you in and asks you to really experience it. This collection is intimate and inspiring.

4. Awesome Barbra! - What a great album! I love the remake of classic songs as duets and I especially loved my introduction to this album. Babs appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon and THEY did a duet. Jimmy has a pretty good singing voice and Barbra was a really good sport as Jimmy sang the songs in place of Elvis and Blake. I’m looking forward to her next “Partners”album. What GREAT music!

5. good falling asleep music - I like Barbra with the orchestra and sweeping lyrics and high notes. This almost sounds like MUZAC elevator arrangments. I don't understand why multi millionare artists with multi decade careers feel like they have to keep pushing out average records. She had admitted, she doesn't even really like to sing all that much, and it kinda shows on this record. She probably has this ridiculous fear of going broke or something. Can't see any sparkle in this at all.

6. Partners in Harmony - One of my favorite Streisand albums in the Duet Genre Barbara Streisand Created because she has a Once in an Eternity Voice and she knows talent and whether it is Partners or Duets her voice is magical and the pairings bring back so many memories of times Past and Good Times. Thank You Barbara and thank you for the kind letter you sent to my mom many years ago. Barbara give us more of the early voice any recordings not published yet or whatever you want. I have every CD and I want more.

7. Savor the evolution of this great singers career! - I’ve been hoping Barbra, one of my all time favorite singers, would record a new album —and much to my delight here it is! It’s hard to record old hits in a new way but I have to say adding ‘Partners’ was a brilliant idea. It’s not simply a new recording of Barbra's old stuff—adding Partners makes it a whole new song! Now I can enjoy Barbra (and friends) 'then and now’ and savor the evolution of this great singers career. Thank you Barbra, thank you Columbia!

8. Worth listening to - Most of the songs are enjoyable. I did not like the arrangement on The Way We Were. It's almost unrecognizable. I also didn't like Somewhere for the same reason. I missed Barry Gibb on What Kind of Fool. I think Barbra can still out sing pretty much anyone. Her voice and her partners on the CD are great. But many songs are very different than the originals. It takes some getting used to.

9. Fabulous! - I was looking forward to the duet album of Tony Bennet with Lady GaGa...but was disappointed with it because GaGa can't do duets... if you listen to the interview that Barbra does with Katie Kouric, she says that "women want to do their own thing", and that's why she prefers to work with men... too true!

10. The Way We Used To Be & Can’t Be Again - First, iTunes needs to change it’s “star” system. It’s the same one that Amazon has in which you click stars and it says, “It’s OK.” That is NOT my opinion about this album. I chose stars because I honestly do not believe this album is as good as it could have been. It’s hard to know what exactly went wrong, but only the second half of Barbra’s new album works, starting with “The Way We Were.” That was the first cut I could tolerate. I am a pianist and a musical director. I listened to it with one my of singer friends, a woman with a glorious voice who is in high demand. We are both Barbra fans. We could hardly wait to sit down and listen. And then it started. We actually laughed out loud. I thought, “Barbra, darling, really? This is what you wanted to do? You wanted to ‘reinterpret’ and ‘cover’ your own songs… the ones that you sang definitive versions of?” I simply could not listen to her butcher “People” — Stevie Wonder, yes, he is still a wonder, and he applied his magic to it, but I do not think it made it better and I do not think Barbra made it better. I am not interested in “Barbra-lite” — and despite the fact that, at , she often sounds fantastic, she is also often scratchy, sometimes not exactly on the note, sometimes a little heavy-handed in her approach, so she sounds like she’s about to go Ethel Merman on the song , and in one moment we could not believe, it sounded like her voice cracked. I’m sorry, as fantastic as she is, I believe she could have easily chose an album of new songs to wow her faithful fans. She did not need to “revisit” masterpieces… masterpieces that she was responsible for creating. Barbra, honey, did you ever hear the phrase, “You can’t go home again”? This album is a clear example that she has not. I honestly don’t know what she was thinking. “I Can Still See Your Face” (with Andrea Bocelli) was the first song on the album where we both said, “Wow. That was good.” She really got us on that one and I was back to being a fan. And her duet with her son is perfect. But when she sings “New York State of Mind” with Billy Joel (who sounds so much better than she does), and at the end of the song, he first suggests going out for pizza, and then going out for Chinese, and she says “Even bet-tah…” — the way she says the word “better” — making sure we hear each “t” separately — I wanted to slap her. It sounded forced, fake, overdone… it was awful. We decided that “Evergreen” with Babyface sounded like something people would have done at a cabaret club… meaning sung by people who were not famous, and probably on amateur night. It was very “background music-ish”. It bored me to tears. And so, the album is a mixed bag at best. And I wish, I wish, I wish, that someone could tell Barbra to cut her hair (she looks like some Bohemian grandmother) and to please, please wear SOMETHING other than black and white. She looks like she just stepped off the set of “THE ADDAMS FAMILY “ and thought “Why should I change my costume? Worked for the ADDAMS FAMILY, it will work for my album cover, as well!” Last, Barbra’’s voice is often mixed slightly (or blatantly) HIGHER than her male counterpart. She also has an annoying habit of singing over anyone else, with cutesy “hums.” She did shut up for the first part of “How Deep Is The Ocean” — thank God, as this enabled to hear the beauty of Jason Gould’s singing voice. I love Barbra, I just think that many cuts on this album were questionable. Otherwise, I hope she continues to live in good health and consult someone who will tell her “the truth” she really needs to hear before embarking on a new project.

11. Barbra at her best - Barbra hasn't sound so good since the early 's, it seems that being in the company of "A" list artists makes her work harder in achieving perfection, and it is welcomed in this album. Some of the Ad lib in some songs may appear forced, but the album as a whole is cohesive and entertaining. We can thank Babyface and Walter Afanasief for producing a great album.

12. No!! - years ago .... Totally B.S.! - - years ago, the line would have been great. She was good singer. Today, her vocals pale in comparison to the other singers. She chose great singers, but again her vocals are so weak that she speaks her songs. She does not sing her songs. When she is singing, it does not resonate well. Why did she not come out - years ago. Why now? Anyone over years old, their vocal chords (i.e. muscles are weaker). I forget her age, but she is definitely older than (if I had to guess over ). Looks great, but vocal abilities are not so good. I love Barbara's old songs. Not this album. Sorry B.S.

13. A lady with chops - While she may be a total Diva, she has picked her most iconic songs and reimagined them completely and beautifully with some of this century's vocal giants. Just wish she had been willing to include some female partners as well. Alicia Keys, Sarah Brightman....could have been even better. Nothing wrong with gilding the lily.

14. Would rather shove ice pics into my ears! - I must first say that I'm a little bias. I HATE Barbara Streisand with a passion! I figured I'd give this a listen to see why it is all of her albums go to ... I don't get it. I'm sorry, I tried. I think many of these songs would have been great, without her vocals. I especially liked the John Mayer track, but had to turn it off in order to tune out Streisand's voice. I would rather shove ice pics into my ears than have to listen to another Streisand tune!

15. Streisand again shows why she matters - I have listened to her voice since I was in my early teens. Even when I listen to her music repeatedly I sense it differently from time to time. I do not know of any other singer with the depth, range of styles, and intelligence - her age or other - that can command a song the way she does. She is so phenomenally a talent, and I am so glad that I am alive and able to see her in concert(s), listen to her music, read about her politics, watch her movies. This album is really good! On some songs, I am in thrall of her voice again and again. Very few singers nowadays have even a smidgen of her talent. I hope she lives a longer and healthy life...and records more!

16. Partners - This musica rendition represents the best of a group of artists who have been very successful in their careears. For our delight Barbra once again struck the right cords because she is the best of the best; however, her partners compliment the effort and represent these group exemplary because they are among the best the music business. The rendition with Michael Buble is greatbut also Billy Joel and Barbra in"New Your State of Mind" Long live all of them and keep producing the magnificent music you all are doing. Thank you

1. Highly Disappointed! - I adore Barbara's music. Her voice is phenomenal and this collection is amazing. Unfortunately, I spent money for only half an album. The other half won't download! I keep receiving messages that the song is not available in my country. Seriously? I'm American. These songs were recorded in the USA. Oh, and I was charged twice for one song--which I still can't get--when I tried hitting the download button. Basically, it's a ripoff. I'm sure it would be spectacular if I could get ALL the songs I paid for, though, especially the ones from musicals (like Children Will Listen from Into the Woods).

2. The Essential Barbra Streisand - This album covers all her best and then some! She does give you songs, however of them are repeats. I guess she felt she’d give us the original and then the nd album where she added more songs for the deluxe version. At any rate every last song is Barbra singing at her best! One just can’t ask for anymore. I really didn’t need to buy this album because I had all the original albums (in vinyl) they came from in the first place, but at the time we didn’t have the capabilities of putting everything together like we do today. Do I regret buying it, not at all. In fact because my husband and I lost the instructions and we got too hectic to look very hard for them, i was unable to use my second turntable that is made to transfer one’s albums to CD’s. So, I downloaded from iTunes the same album to stream on my iPad and iPhone! Anyway, everyone that I have played this album for can’t get over how much of a great selection of songs I have by Barbra, if they only knew. Great album especially for those of you that are newbies to Barbra’s music and her wonderful instrument. Buy & enjoy!

3. Quality - This album is an excellent one because the quality is great and you can really hear barbra on every song. she's not drowned out by the music like some of the other recordings. I got to this album intending to buy The Way We Were and Don't Rain on My Parade and ended up buying the whole thing. an excellent addition to any fan's library--even if you've got some of the songs already, this album is a must because of the great quality and track balance.

4. A Mostly Great Collection - The other reviews are so over-the-top that I thought I needed to weigh in. This is yet another collection of Streisand songs: She has had so many greatest hits albums and such ( "Memories", "A Collection...And More", "Just For the Record") that the devoted fan has reason to be weary. There is nothing here most fans don't already own, but for someone that wants a great primer on Streisand, this is a pretty good start. The compilation is in chronological order, and the older stuff is just amazing. The passion, the range, the acting in each song is just mind-blowing. The seventies and early eighties songs are when Streisand was at her commercial peak, and you probably know the big hits. The last worthwhile songs here ("Putting It Together" through "Somewhere") are from The Broadway Album, a semi-masterpiece that hasn't aged quite as well as expected. Somehow it sounds dated now, though the vocals are superb. But the best song from that album, "If I Loved You", is sadly missing. The nineties were not good years for Streisand, her voice, or her fans, and the rest of the compilation reflects that. My suggestion would be to purchase - as a great collection from a most remarkable vocalist.

5. The Essential Barbra Streisand - This album is nothing short of amazing! It showcases Steisands uncanny ability to sing such beautifully melodic wide ranging tunes throughout her career of over years with the delicate crispness of her early vocals. Her voice is like a finely tuned instrument that never misses a note and plays with its whole heart portraying emotions that are often indescribable with the English language. There is just something about her voice that wraps its self around you and touches you so deeply that you have got to let it in. It is I guess elation that she makes you feel listening to her. If you have never listened to Barbra sing this is a great album to buy because you get a sample of all she can do. I guarantee if you listen to it you will know why she has the reputation of being the greatest female singer in the world today and still holding. I've been hooked on her ever since I was hearing her voice on the school bus radio singing people when she was only about years old. I did not know who she was but I knew her voice was the most beautiful I had ever heard and I have never been affected by anyone’s voice like hers in my life since.

6. Best Vocal Album of The Our Time!!! - As you all know Barbra Streisand is an astounding actress, singer, and director. And to give her music such harsh reviews and to only let 'Somewhere' get the highest score is TOTALY absurd. Her writing is fantastic and her voice is of an angel. The reviews that have percentages are completely and totally out of tune. The Essentials will give you all the emotions the music can give. Barbra Streisand is a absolute legend with best music around. This album will show true and classy music of our late and early time.

1. OMG!!! - So....This is one of the worst reviews i've seen on I-tunes for anything!!! its crazy!! im honestly going to buy this album not only because i like it, but because whom ever wrote that album review is a tw@t. I have always heard the saying, those who cant do,teach... in this case its those who cant do, review. poor form reviewer. poor form.

2. The Inexplicable Tears - It is striking to me that this man's voice, presence and unique delivery have such a propensity for bringing people to tears. How wonderful and astounding! At first I thought I was the only one (always embarassing for a grown man to admit), but apparently thousands had the same reaction. For me the tears were pouring out the first time I heard him. There is truly something here so evocative and strangely beautiful that it defies explanation. For so many, he creates an almost instant state of emotionalism. I am dismayed that some of the opera "purists" just don't grasp his impact; they remind me of the same ones that hectored Pavarotti early in his career. What fools. Pavarotti had the ability to make you gasp. Paul Potts brings you to tears. Tenors like this only come along ever so rarely. What a joy to "discover" such a marvelous new talent. His voice is irresistable.

3. Caruso, Pavarotti, di Stefano, Gigli, Bjoling... Potts? - As one who greatly appreciates the operatic form, Potts has a good voice, but lacks the vocal strength to support the vocal challenges that the great tenors had to sing extraordinarily well. I would place him below Boccelli and Josh Groban; a so-so voice with little vocal support. It is, however, much better than Michael Bolton's attempt at singing opera.

4. Dreams come true ! - Do I like Paul's voice? I do. Is it the best voice ever? Not sure. Why I bought this album? Certainly thanks to Paul's incredible story! I discovered Paul Potts throught YouTube just after Christmas - yeah, I know, not in real time - and I found it really lovely. Sometimes dreams come true. Thank you Paul for being a living example.
2009-01-15
5. Not your average album - Paul Potts has a voice that is both innocent and deeply moving. He has a very different style and sound than other famous tenors and really shouldn't be compared to them. He is unique and stands well on his own merit. The first time I listened to his album, I played it three times in a row. Perhaps from a technical standpoint, you won't get perfection. But anything Paul lacks in technical skill, he makes up for in the sweetness of his song. I love his album and look forward to any future ones. I would describe his voice as genteel, sweet and melodic.
2008-12-17
6. Nessun Dorma - Every time I listen to "Nessun Dorma" I start crying and get goosebumps. He sings that so well I just can't believe it. It's so beautiful. And this is coming from a person who listens to all screamo. This is the only song that can get me to cry and feel so amazing. This song is amazing.
2008-12-10
7. Great CD!!! - Paul Potts will always be compared to many other tenors. Whether he is better or worse all comes down to personal choice. In my opinion, I prefer his versions of Nessun Dorma and Con Te Partiro to any others I've heard. With all due respect to Luciano Pavarotti and Andrea Bocelli, who are both very talented in their own right, when I heard Paul sing, it literally brought tears to my eyes. After buying the cd, I listened to these two songs in particular hundreds of times within the first few months. For me, these songs will always be timeless and some of my all time favorite songs.
2008-11-13
8. Listened to many opera singers - (Not to flame another post) I have to say from having been raised on opera and classical music and listening to Pavarotti, Placido Doming and Jose Carreras all my life Paul Potts is by far more than just average. He has a body to his voice that although not honed yet for as many years as other famous singers it is I believe in a class all his own. I would rather listen to Paul Potts than Pavarotti due to the fact Paul's voice sounds more mellow and richer. Also Paul taught himself and did not have money for professional lessons all his life. He is I believe one of the rare Virtuoso's of our time. He may sing from a "book" yes, but his singing developed in the only possible way, from the heart. Last of all, my mother played as one of the lead cellists in her orchestra at nearly philharmonic level. She knows music and said this man is exceptional. I give only four stars to this because I'm simply not keen on some of the music choices they laid out for him. I really do like most all the songs here though.
2008-10-25
9. Speachless - The moment I heard his voice, i was captivated! I couldn't get it out of my head. In fact, I just got out of bed to get this album! THAT SAYS SOMETHING seeing how i love my sleep! I couldnt speak highly enough about it! Paul Potts's voice is a gift that thankfully was discovered so that we all can enjoy it
2008-09-15
10. Mediocre at best - Paul Potts became such a big sensation because he sang to people that were used to hearing only pop and rock; therefore his sound was new and fresh. The trouble is, he is actually pretty average. Not a terrible singer, but he is covering songs that have been done by much better vocalists. If you like the Classical Crossover genre, go with artists like Josh Groban, Mario Frangoulis, Russell Watson, Hayley Westenra, Michael Londra, and Sarah Brightman.

11. Various Selections - My wife showed me the Youtube clip; we must have watched it times. We then got the physical CD off Amazon. Browse the tracks - some are in Italian, some in English. We highly recommend this album, and wish Mr. Potts much success with it, and so hope he records more. His voice is a beautiful instrument and, while it is foolish to challenge Pavarotti's volume of work or to suggest Pavarotti is anything other than great, we A-Bed Nessun Dorma from Potts, and Pavarotti (from in NYC, and also ), and we think Potts betters Pavarotti. I sincerely wanted to like Pavarotti, but his voice numbed my ear. Paul Potts does not. On a scale defined by Pavarotti's greatness, Pavarotti wins. On a scale of which I find more pleasing, I greatly prefer Potts. I will buy any album that Paul Potts makes. Have confidence, Paul !!!! (AND RECORD MORE !!!)

12. Amazing voice for someone with no former training - I had no idea who this guy was. I was on a business trip over in Paris and saw a commercial for T-Mobile. They use the insert of Britain's Got Talent where he sings Nessun Dorma. It was such a pactful commercial for me. Although I didn't understand what the commercial was saying since it was all in German, it definitely gave me goose bumps. As soon as I got back to the states, I decided to Google him and saw the YouTube insert. Now that I know the story, I got his CD and just amazed with his talent. Truly an inspiration to me.

13. I agree with JCR... - For the average listener who's not an opera fan, this album will be an excellent way to discover this classic genre. While Pott's voice is remarkable for an uneducated and untrained regular guy, it's an average tenor voice in serious art music terms. Not to underestimate Pott's talent or this beautifully produced album, but there are thousands of albums just as good or better that have not been backed by the pop mainstream promotion of a widely popular reality show. Still, this album will open the door (and the ears and hearts of many people) to the genre of opera allowing it to reach a wider audience, and it might also propel the spawning of new figures who will combine opera with pop sounds, like Emma Shapplin. Do buy Pott's album and support the careers of people with real talent who are not the sexy-looking studio-factory-made pop stars that sell millions thanks to the media shoving them down our throats.

14. wow and chill - Wow. for the first time in my life i cried when listening to a song. It was "time to say goodbye". I have never like opera and I listen to alternative, rock, and hip-hop. If this guy can make me like opera then he must be doing something right. If your an open-minded person, u should love him. People who think his voice is average, remember that he probably never had much training except his school choir. Also if his voice is average why then did he just finish a country tour and why then is his album in countries? Obviously there are much more people that like him than dislike him... And fyi im only in middle school and I appreciate his music...and no im not a weird kid

15. Brings me to tears! - I read some pompus fools review that stated Paul Potts voice is average at best. I would venture to says that the author of said review must have heard the voice of god at some point and all others are not worthy. Paul Potts' Nessun Dorma is unbelievable! His story of chasing a dream and overcoming self confidence issues is inspiring! Watch his story unfold on youtube then buy this track!!! It is emotional. Thankyou.
2008-06-14
16. What is this? - No sure what is he trying to accomplish; however, his voice is not made for songs like Nessun Dorma, etc. He sounds pushed and monochromatic. I had to only see the video on youtube to understand; this guy would not go anywhere, in fact, he won't make it in a opera challenge. Last thing, please do not compare this guy with Luciano Pavarotti...that's an insult to everything Pavarotti did as an operatic tenor.

17. OMG! - I am not a big fan of opera...few ppl are. but i saw this video and CRIED like a BABY! true, this guys voice isnt the best, but he is this regular phone sales man who accomplished this huge dream! if u havent seen the vid, search Paul Potts Audition. it gives me chills every time and i cry each time and i have seen it at least times. Amazing!

18. Wonderful! - I saw him adition, I saw him in the finals and I saw him win Britians Got Talent. When he opened up his mouth and sang it was beautiful. He is truly amazing. I love the whole album, but my favorites are You Raise Me Up, Time to Say Goodbye and Everybody Hurts. Beautiful, beautiful voice!

19. What an incredible voice/talent !!! - Loved the youtube vids and was touched by his back story and simply floored by his voice! He can hold his own next to the greats IMO as he has the tone (great tone!), control, power ...and a passion in how he sings that comes through in the songs. I showed mom some of the videos and she asked "does he have a CD?" I checked on ITunes and sure enough. I purchased the album and we both were not dissapointed, as it s a great first offering from him. Paul Potts, you have the gift of a beautiful voice. Thanks for sharing it with the world ...for taking "a chance".

20. Disappointing and Unoriginal - Paul Potts has a wonderful story-- anyone who has watched Britain's Got Talent or his youtube video can see this. However, this is a very poor album. The songs on the album are very uninspiring with most of them being the same songs that other opera wannabes have sung on their albums and the others being horrible foreign language versions of American songs. Singing "You Raise Me Up" (possibly the most overrated song in the history of the genre) in Italian doesn't make it any better nor does it make Paul a better singer. "Everybody Hurts" in Italian? Even worse. Besides poor song choice, Paul's voice just doesn't sound that great. It's weak, it's a bit shrill, and he does not enunciate properly. Do yourself a favor and save the money. You can always watch the youtube video on repeat for free.
2008-04-23
21. Incredible - Watch the youtube video and you will find out why he is liked so much, he came from nothing and could become one of the greats. I don't think that he will fade as his fame because his voice will cary him up to the higher echelons of opera singing. I'm not saying he is better than Pavarotti; although to some he is, I am just saying that the long paragraph set below the album downplays the fact that he has just come out of hiding. And I am sure now that he has taken on singing as a career his voice will improve and strengthen.

2. there is only one harry - I saw Harry live at the palace theatre in NYC many moons ago,at the height of his career. his show was fabulous and this collection of songs brings it all back. he is a showman, singer, balladeer, calypso and folk song master. he does it all and nobody does it better. He had such electricity on stage, talked to the audience, had more charm than a human being is supposed to have - harry belafonte is superb and this collection shows his talents off very well.

1. Purchased , did not download!!!! - I purchased songs, "the wind beneath my wings" and "the rose" by Bette Midler. The songs did download to my iPhone. Service has not been render, and you just took my money. What a deal!!!!!! Come on guys, I gave you my money, the least you can do is give me what I paid for. Obviously, my low rating is not because I didn't like the songs

2. Beaches made me cry... - At work the other day someone asked me it i would rather go camping with/kiss bette midler or barbara streisand. I don't think two "singers" have ever been in a better battle. i totally chose bette midler because, sure, barbarara might be a little bit more of a hotty, bette just seems like she's be really fun to have around, you know like, around the campfire. when we kiss she might swallow me! i mean look at the cd cover! so, sorry barbara, next time i'm camping under the stars, i'm sharing my sleepin bag with the divine miss midler!

1. An old friend.. - This album came out around my th birthday and I remember asking for it for christmas. I sang along and learned every line. The arrangements are classic barbra and do scream "late s', but it also one of the last albums where ms. Streisand really attacked high notes with that thrilling belt voice of hers. listen and enjoy.

2. Splendid - I too noticed this album because "Somewhere" was being played all over the radio. The first time I heard it, I was visiting the San Francisco Bay Area from Nebraska. An FM station played "Somewhere" when I was sweeping around a big curve on I-, and before the song had finished, I was looking toward the Golden Gate Bridge across the bay from Berkeley. A nice way to remember the song. Credit goes to whoever made the decision finally to let iTunes customers purchase track , the "I Have Dreamed" medley, as a regular purchase. For a long time, this song was Album Only. It's my favorite, and you can hear so easily Barbra's attention to detail.

3. It's A Keeper!! - When this cd (lp) was released in there was a lot of press and a lot of inside looks into the studio during the recording of this landmark album. Barbra back to Broadway, which will be the title of her follow-up. All the songs are just beautiful if a bit dated due to the then-contemporary sound of synthesizers. Barbra's vocal delivery convinces the listener this is what she loves to sing. The actors conversing about the damage to her career if she wanted to do this album was adapted from actual concerns from the suits at Columbia. This cd shot to and Barbra has achieved artistic vindication. Standout cuts are track , track , and the big hit from this cd, track . Track , "Adelaide's Lament," appears only on the cd configuration of this release, probably due to programming space and the fact vinyl was being slowly phased out. "Adelaide's Lament" sung with a Yiddish accent display's Barbra's off-beat sense of humor. This cd was remastered along with other landmark cd's in and the result is truly beautiful, it doesn't want to make you throw your ipod through a window.

4. Barbra At Her Best! - I originally bought this album on LP in . The radio station at work played "Somewhere" constantly and I loved it, so I took a chance and bought the entire album. I always liked Streisand's voice and had taped some singles off the radio(God remember taping songs off the radio), but never ever bought her records. To make a long story short, I played this album to death and it has remained one of my favorite albums. The LP didn't have "Adelaide's Lament" on it, so it's a little odd for me to hear this song on the album, it breaks up the sequence for me since I'm so used to the ' LP version, but a good song nontheless. Thirteen years later I bought the follow-up album "Back to Broadway" Not good as the original, BUT quite wonderful also! I recomend both albums.

1. Barbra's Best - Sure Funny Girl & The Way We Were & A Star Is Born are better known, but this movie and especially this music is the pinnacle of Barbra's art. Putting her whole heart into it and forgetting her superstar image, Barbra created a gorgeous, sexy and mysterious masterpiece. The music is sung as the inner thoughts of the main character and is as sophisticated as any soundtrack ever created if not the most. Just brilliant.

2. Best Album of Babs - Very good! Definitely worth buying! I bought the whole album and haven't stopped listening to it since! One of Barbra's best albums and movies of her career! Even if you dont want to buy the whole album at least get the song " papa can you hear me" and " a piece of sky" they both are heart warming and they give me goosebumps every time I listen to them!!

3. Call it what you will - I have listened to this soundtrack for a dominant period of my life. Nose.... Style......I have never liked anything about Barbra, yet her performance in this movie creates a new genre. I love it. My love for this C.D. was initiated from the movie Yentl, which I watched when I was years old. This soundtrack renews the pleasure and enjoyment from the movies story-line.

4. Her best work. - This movie was a labor of love for many years for her. The music clearly represents the passion she put forth in the over all production of the movie. Each song is almost a mini movie in my mind. Her phrasing ,diction, and emotion in each song are impecable. Where as most people enjoy listening to upbeat energetic music when they attend a gym, i have found myself listening to this soundtrack becasue of its many inspirational songs it features. Words of hope and encouragement whenI need them. Its a wonderful film and the music is just as special.

5. One Of The Best - This cd is a soundtrack to the film of the same name yes, but I disagree that the sequence of songs merely highlight the film. This cd (lp) was intended to be a concept album, the songs tell the same story as the film does, the songs are sequenced in order of "appearance" in the film. Barbra spent a number of years developing the storyline and a number of years recording the demos. Her boxed set "Just For The Record" features some of the songs in their songwriting format. This cd contains Barbra's finest singing, she was forty at the time and her voice had twenty years of experience, she would never return to the power she used in these recordings. All of the songs are just massive cinematic pieces, Barbra just soars to an amazing climax during "A Piece Of Sky." The studio version of "The Way He Makes Me Feel" was a huge radio hit, it was in the same rotation as Barry Manilow's "Read 'Em And Weep" and Wham!'s "All She Want's." So in retrospect it can transport you to a place in time. I wish this cd was one of the remastered lp's re-released in , it deserved it, hence the four -star rating. I have to harp again on the remastering, it's not, it's a typical 's analog transfer.

6. Could have been the best Streisand album EVER - I loved this album when it FIRST appeared. The songs by Michel Legrand and the Bergmans, sung in the way only Streisand can, are pure magic. Why then were they remastered and drowned in studio reverb? It not only takes something away from the purity of Barbra's voice but adds a 'fake' quality to it all. Talking of studios too, why oh why were the studio versions of "...Make me feel" and "No Matter..." included as 'bonus' tracks when there is the most glorious PROLOGUE to the film soundtrack that was omitted? I first heard this album years ago and couldn't wait to see the movie (which, by the way, makes more sense of the album and is equally as special) and when I heard the Prologue I was upset that it was not included. Overall, I would recommend this album on the strength of the wonderful songs and their sublime, lush orchestration (hence a star recommendation) but the new, 'modern' production and choice of numbers prevents it getting a star. Just as an aside as well, who in heaven decided to put a MONO sountrack on the home movie and why, oh why, is it still only available on VHS????

7. Barbra at her best - The movie Yentl is a timeless story of love and awakening; Barbra really owned the movie and clearly the music as well. Her voice is without parallel and she obviously really put her heart and artistry into the music. It is very personal and touches those intimate parts of the human soul. To anyone who has not seen the movie, please treat yourself to a work of real beauty.

8. THE BEST BARBRA EVER!! - I just bought this album, and i haven't seen the movie but the music has moved me so much, i cried at a couple songs and i have found my favorite song of all time it's called A PIECE OF SKY!! which is the ending of the movie, where she holds a over second note!! this is proven to be Babs' emotional album she has ever sung in her career!

9. Hokey Notes on a Classic - Hokey title I just gave this but this is a hockey review, or better put, testimonial. And I'm sorry it's not even a little funny. That's not where I'm at right now. Hard to say how much this movie and its music means to me. It came out when I was a year old kid obsessed with Star Wars and the excitment you could find on the big screen. When the priorities of adolescence took over I discovered feelings and issues Star Wars didn't quite address. Romance, identity, the struggle of misunderstood and oppressed minorities, hiding and the fear of discovery, as a gay kid, Yentl spoke to all these issues and more. Gay and in a New York City high school in could be pretty daunting. Yentl's songs to Avigdor are easily sung by a boy in love with a boy -- a boy unsure if the other loves him or boys at all -- "Look at How he Looks at Me Will Someone Ever Look at Me That Way?" Yentl was released the year my father stopped calling and walked out of my life for good. The shock waves of that particular event have only recently abated. Yentl's grief over the loss of her father and, even more, her profound sense of isolation, was something I identified with very strongly. I succumbed to a bad depression when my father left, but Yentl cut her hair and stepped out to challenge the world and make it better. What a great message. As an aspiring filmmaker Barbra (and George) were my heroes. Is it too weird to say that cynical Han Solo showing up at the last minute to give Luke Sykwalker that one shot at destroying the Death Star hits me in precisely the same way as Barbra singing "A Piece of Sky" at Yentl's finale? Shivers up your spine, tears threatening, renewed hope for humanity, moments of that intensity, if a movie doesn't have them, why bother with it? Barbra Streisand's Yentl is something else. People all over the world connect to it in powerful and unique way. I can't tell you how often I've sung this score at full pitch in subways and hallways and parking lots. It travels with me everywhere I go. Tonight I feel a little low and needed some inspiration. I downloaded the remastered version of Yentl. I'm psyched.

10. Beautiful Voice! - I saw the movie "Yentl" when it came out in the 's. The soundtrack moved me then as it does now. For me, seeing the movie helped me appreciate what she was singing about.. Some of the songs do sound alike and on a few of them different versions.. If your a Barbara fan you'll love it! I play my ITunes music thru my IPod Hi Fi and the sound is just out of this world!

1. More like / Stars, but certainly not . A very good album, but a little uneven. - This was the high point of my Connick bug. Provoked by his version of "It Had To Be You" in "When Harry Met Sally," I bought this CD too and wasn't disappointed. He never became "the next Frank Sinatra" many were saying he'd be. He couldn't! Not in a million years. Sinatra had much better range. But given his limitations and taken for what he's worth, Connick knows which songs utilize his voice well, as is demonstrated in this CD. Great orchestra behind him makes those limitations much more palatable. But the order of the songs takes away from any momentum the album could have achieved. All that aside, this is a good example of some of Connick's best big band stuff before he diversified his future choices to record.

2. One of the best! - I guess it's because it's and older album no one has reviewed it. It's hard to believe that only two others have taken the time to give it a review. If you like Harry even a little bit you will love this album IMHO it is his best. The songs are very cheerful, very romantic and they never seem to get old. Out of the hundreds of albums I have this is in the top twenty!

1. Well-Recorded - I use HD- Headphones, and if you are familiar with them, they are very picky when it comes to a well recorded song.. All of these in this album are extremely well recorded with great quality. Alot of great hits in this album, he places a marvelous signature on all of these tracks, you won't be dissapointed(Also the alternate take on Nice 'n' Easy is interesting!).

1. One of the top voices of all time!! - I am "only in my 's" and I would put Andy right up there with Frank Sinatra!
He had the smoothest voice I ever heard! I can remember watching his variety show in the 's and just thinking what a great voice!! I have heard so many of his songs the past couple of days, and I decided I just had to get his "greatest" hits!
I hope you are singing with tha angles Andy because that is where you belong!! Rest In Peace!!

2. Andy....one of the greatest and so under-rated.... - Hearing the voice of Andy Williams will always take me out of any "so-so" mood and put me in a great mood. His style is so relaxing and so unique. There is just something so very special about anything that he sings. Andy's voice and his arrangements turn average songs into classics. Andy is a true legend. Joe in NH.

1. Not Bad, Could've Been Better - Bette's work was first compiled in and again in for her first compilation "Experience The Divine" the former was a domestic release and the latter, the superior collection, was for the U.K. and it's the ' collection that iTunes features. Jumping forward to this new collection features songs licensed from Sony for an updated single disc collection and features repeats from / way better mastered. By now Bette has recorded so much material and so many albums overlooked to create this one disc collection that a two disc anthology is really deserved. To accommodate the repeats, many post hits have been left off this collection as "I'm Beautiful," and "In These Shoes." Rhino stuck with Bette's most commercial successes such as "Beaches and "The Rose" movie soundtracks and her very popular "Some People's Lives" to create a good moving product. Again, this is a terrific compilation but could have been a very effective "Greatest Hits part two" skipping the repeats because she's recorded deserving material that should be here. The two "Album Only" tracks are from her "Rosemary Clooney Songbook" and "Cool Yule" from her Christmas album. "Something Your Heart Has Been Telling Me" is a songwriting demo; Bette is a co-writer of this beautiful ballad and the only recorded version I can think of is Roberta Flack's for her "Set The Night To Music" LP.

2. wow! - Wow! The lyrics in "wind beneath my wings" are awesome! I bet you are saying who is the wind beneath my wings? Well, it's your parents. Without wind you would not fly. Without parents you would not live! You should admire your parents this season even if they are deceased . For truly they are the wind beneath your wings, or atleast were at some point!

3. Original and musical - I became a fan of the Divine Miss M's in without even knowing who she was. I was wasting time as a pubescent teen, browsing through a table of discount 's, when I picked up a single of Superstar with the B side, Do You Want to Dance. I took a chance on it and when I got home, I ended up playing it over and over and over, starting a lifetime of fascination with this woman who can belt out a song with the best and pour pure emotion into any song she sings. This represents some of her better known stuff, but I can still spend an afternoon listening to the old albums with the obscure songs too. It's rare these days to find an artist who can put so much of themselves into a song.

4. The best music in the world, you just have to feel it! - For all of you Bette haters. I can understand where you are coming from. If you want a perfect voice like Barbra Streisand's or Doris Day's or something like that then you are looking in the wrong place. But what real Bette fans know is that it is not about the voice as much as it is about the feeling and the soul in the music. That is what has kept her in buisness for about years. Again, she is amazing, just feel the music and you will love it. My personal favorites are When a Man Love a Woman, In the Mood, From a Distance, and Hello in There, but they are all wonderful.

5. Some (Not All) of Bette's Best... - This is a great collection of hits from the incredible Divine Miss M. I do have to agree with the first reviewer in that there’re songs Bette has released since her first greatest hits album that should have been included. Love TKO, One Monkey Don't Stop No Show, and In These Shoes should have been included. I've never understood why songs such as Drinking Again, Big Noise From Winnetka, My Mother's Eyes, Midnight In Memphis, Shall Be Released, Stuff Like That There, and La Vie En Rose were not considered worthy to be apart of a greatest hits album. Interpretations of such songs are some of Bette’s biggest achievements. Highlights from Jackpot: The Best Bette includes, Spring Can Really Hang You Up the Most, Tenderly, and the wonderfully previously unreleased, Something Your Heart Has Been Telling You. Classic Bette. Bette Midler is beyond divine. She is an American treasure. She is the last great entertainer (if you haven’t seen Bette in concert, GO) of her generation.

1. GREAT STUFF - Not wild about every song on this otherwise terrific album, but "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy," "Do You Want To Dance?" and both versions of "Friends" are classics. But, the finest moment for me is Bette's heartbreaking version of "Am I Blue." It's one of the finest vocals I've ever heard. She walks a tightrope, nearly breaking down, but somehow holding it all together in the end. Every time I listen to it, it gets to me.

2. The Divine Miss M - The title says it all! Bette shows us why she's worthy of the title SuperStar. With great raw vocals and rare emotional depth she takes us across a truly diverse landscape from the hilarious rendering of LeaderOf The Pack(she uses her tough shiksa voice) to moments of absolute pathos with SuperStar Bette and does it all! When I listen to this album now its like hearing it for the first time even though the first time was in .

3. Bette's Big Debut - This has to be one of the greatest debut records of the rock era. A lot will dispute Miss M's rock value. At the time she released this lp NOBODY was doing this kinda work. She blew onto the scene like a fiercesome tornado and deserved every award she won at that time. She has also proven a consistent force in entertainment. Every song on this disc is stellar. From "Do You Want To Dance" to "Friends" a must for any collection. Good work Miss M. !!!

4. In my room, circa ... - I discovered this album quite by accident, but I played it over and over -- and over and over and over, lost in its haunting beauty, stylistic virtuosity and explosive fearlessness. All alone with Bette, this album gave me hope that melancholy could be transformative. Gorgeous sadness (...i.e., "Hollow ancient eyes"...Hello in there) that lifts itself to celebratory bliss (Friends!). This album heals, validates and, ultimately, restores one's humanity -- even that of this erstwhile misfit lost in the haze of late 's dazzzle and glare.

5. Bette is the best - I have loved Bette for a number of years(from the bath houses to the big screen). Loved her on stage and Loved her movies (The Rose, Beaches and For the Boys!!!!!!) and the soundtracks for those movies. She is a true icon and someone to be loved by all. I can never wait for the next big Bette moment.

6. These songs have been on my "current playlist" for over years - The discovery of "The Divine Miss M" the year I graduated from high school helped me define a clear appreciation of musical diversity. From the classic "Am I Blue" to the original arrangement for "Do You Want to Dance" I was hooked on this voice. The deeply felt emotions of "Hello In There" painted a familiar picture of the late 's and the struggle to understand loss and aging. "Superstar" is sung so beautifully that anyone who has ever loved and lost can identify with the almost breathless angst of being the one left who stil asks why. While Ms Midler has produced many other albums that I love, when I hear the first percussion rift of "Do You Want to Dance" my answer has been YES! YES! please dance with me over and over again. Triumphant debut that earned her a place on my turntable, my track, my cd and now my iPod for over years. Love this music, its Divine.

1. Perry Como's Greatest Hits - I've always known Perry Como as having a calming and soothing voice that lessens day-to-day stresses especially in our current economic times. His best songs on this and other albums are of these types, although, he is still good on those with up beats. My favorite by far is "And I Love You So" and chose it for our wedding dance. My parents have loved his music and I can now understand why.

1. Absolute Perfection - Trisha Yearwood has always been a great singer. This album is her best yet. The song “For The Last Time” is one of the best songs I’ve ever heard and have played it now straight times!!! Trisha has such a rich and calming voice. There is no way you can not like this album.

2. Not for amateur listeners - WARNING this review may hurt some feeling This album is pure music, many have bashed this album for not being (insert complaint here) this album is for big band/Fran Sinatra fans. The orchestra is incredible, of course Ms. Yearwood's renditions are pure and unadulterated . Have heard plenty of musicians “make a song their own” and in the process destroy it. I am now hoping she does this entire album live, if she does, my wife and I will do everything imaginable to be front center.

3. Let's Be Frank - Wouldn’t we all like to be.... - Okay - I've listened to all the songs, severa of them repeatedly and even a little tired of Last Time but as someof the reviews stated, and I repeat, no one is Sinatra. To give the Chairman his due, there will never be aother Sinatra. It doesn't matter what genre you come from - or think you come from - if you cover Sinatra, you better have the chops and Ms. Yearwood has them. The arraignments, the orchestration and the vocals are spot on. I'm a country fan and I grew up listening and playing the "big bands" and American songbook - you can't tell what genre Ms Yearwood comes from, which some people have complained about. Who cares? If you can cover the music and do it more than justice, fantastic and Ms Yearwood has done just that. I agree with one comment - leave Over the Rainbow alone, Frank had better and more popular songs in his repertoire. All in all, musically, this is great recording. Would love to hear it on vinyl with the pops and hiss - would really be a trip down memory lane.

4. Not C&W Twang - I purchased this s few weeks back and enjoy it very much. Despite some reviews I found no Country Western tones in fact if you had no idea who Trish Yearwood is a country performer you would think she was a new Diana Krall. Trisha has a strong voice and the background orchestra is first class. The songs are upbeat. If you want to hear a female do an excellent job on the American Song Book I recommend this album.

5. Only one.. - I was looking forward to hearing this album. I didn’t really like the collection of songs. I think Over the Rainbow should be left alone for the next years. So over done! I really love the song One for my baby, and was looking forward to hearing her version, as I have loved her ballad songs in the past. This version is bad IMO. I just think that she could have really made a great torch song out of this but missed the mark completly with it being so over done. The man that got away was ok but not great. It is the only song that I would consider buying. Over all the album is a miss in my book. Sad to say. I love Trisha and appreciate her talent. Just wish she wouldnt have tried so hard on this.

6. Frank would say . . nice try kid - Sorry, but very few of today's singers bring anything fresh or even pleasant to these standards and I wish todays' singers, producers, labels would quit trying. It doesn't work because in almost every case such efforts are technically sound, but emotionally dead. Younger artists lack the emotional range and depth required to bring these heartbreak songs to life in a way the listener can believe speaks to the heart. What's the answer then? Write your own standards or work with composers that inspire you and relate to you on a very deep level in your life now. Sorry, not sorry this effort is mediocre. It's okay Trisha, you're not the first to come up short on these classics.
2019-02-26
7. Well Done - I love all kinds of music when it's good, and this pretty great. It's funny when people critize a female that is singing Sinatra music ( I have read a fewreviews that state this) because these songs have been done numerous time by other women. These songs are not just Sinatra songs these are great American classics that should be sung. And since we are losing this style I for one applaud Trisha and others for keeping it alive.
2019-02-21
8. Can she or can't she? She can! - They told Trisha she was a washed up country singer whose star had shown its brightest. They told Frank he couldn't sing, couldn't dance, couldn't act, and couldn't survive the likes of Elvis and the British invasion. Wrong on all counts! No, Trisha will never be Frank, but Frank will never be Trisha. A stellar effort and proof that timeless songs can be interpreted by the likes of a "washed up" country singer and shine anew.
2019-02-17
9. Let Me Be frank - If you have a voice like Trisha Yearwood and you pay homage to the Chairman Of The Board...why not. This is a beautiful CD and Don Was' production is spot on. I don't understand the criticism of a country singer covering Sinatra. The comparison with Dilion's version is laughable. Do yourself a favor and listen to Trisha's interpretions and just enjoy the voice that she has. By the way, for you country folks, she has a new CD coming out this year.
2019-02-16
10. Oh no! - I was so psyched to hear that Trisha came out with a new album and that she was going to be on Kelly n Ryan. Was SO disappointed that she had recorded a tribute to Frank Sinatra. Can’t even bring myself to listen to it even though I LOVE Trisha, her music (have all her previous CDs) and have seen her perform live in San Francisco. I bought the new song...love it. Gave a -star rating without listening because she is Trisha. Forget the cooking, make some good music again PLEASE!

11. That VOICE!! - Some artists just have a voice that is made to sing and using that voice on these gems, without destroying them can be a challange but Trisa Yearwood has that voice in time, she can belt it out with the best of them and be soft and dreamy, she cuts her teeth on many of these classics from bye gone era's, she's tastefully reimagined many, Over the Rainbow for example, we've heard so many do this but it fits so nicely in this context as does her own original. I always thought Tricia Yearwood had one of the best set of pipes in the business, often compared to the likes of Linda Rondstat for sheer power, seen her sing with Bonnie Raitt, its not easy to put that voice in to todays scene of country, good place to cut her teeth back into the music world, get her out of the kitchen tv shows and show off that beautiful voice, welcome back!
2019-02-15
12. Let’s be Frank, Trisha Yearwood - Great album, songs that maybe those of you who didn’t experience live Frank Sinatra, can learn from this sentimentality created album by Trisha! She sang the songs with her mother, imagine that not staring at devices, time singing as a Mother/daughter . Trisha, thank you for this magical album

1. Most Requested Songs - I downloaded songs from this album, this time. However, I have owned this entire album thru the era of rpm long play records, then owned it in -track, then owned it in cassette, then on CD, and now on my iphone. Andy Williams has such a beautiful voice, and he sings so effortlessly. He reminds me of Perry Como in that. To be able to sing high notes, or low notes, and never a grimace like other singers, or any indication that this is something out of the ordinary for his voice. I like the song, 'Sweet Memories' best on the album because it sounds so much like a eulogy to someone he loved so much. I think this song, plus the Righteous Brothers version of 'Unchained Melody' are perhaps the most beautiful songs of all time. So much emotion in both songs.

2. Fabulous! - I think Andy Williams is one of the best singers that have ever graced the airwaves. It is too bad that radio is now filled with lyrics of hate and killing, and with "singers" who cannot sing. Andy has a voice that ranks right up with Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Sammy Davis Jr., Tony Bennett and Mel Torme. When I was a child I used to watch the Andy Williams show on TV. Andy is a great singer but he also is a funny comedian. It was on Andy Williams's show that the Osmond Brothers were discovered. Anyway, Andy still performs in Branson Missouri, even though he is in his 's. He sounds GREAT! If you like great singing, then this is the album for you. HAPPY LISTENING!!!

1. Bobby Darin - EP - The lesser known legend - While I do enjoy Frank Sinatra, I prefer Bobby Darin. He was lesser known, but I think he was just as good, if not better than Sinatra. Darin could sing the same chorus a billion times, but because of the range and personality of his voice, it could sound different every time! The only song I'm not crazy about in this almost perfect EP is Splish Splash, a good song, but a very silly song indeed (not my thing). This is great for anyone interested in listening to Bobby Darin. I personally admire tracks and .

2. Rhino Hi-Five: Bobby Darin - EP - The only problem with this alblum is that it's too short. All of the songs are good but there are too few of them. I could name more songs to put on this alblum and in the order I want them. They are: Artificial Flowers, Bill Bailey, Won't You Please Come Home, Clementine, You Must Have Been A Beautiful Baby, Early In The Morning, I'll Be There, Things, Somebody To Love, Multiplication, Theme From "Come September", What'd I'd Say, Irresistible You, Sittin' Here Lovin' You, If I Were A Carpenter and Lazy River. Then it would be a better album. The producers may want to add the above songs to this alblum. Reviewer: Age

1. It's That Girl Again—Basia - I'll keep this short—I have been a Basia fan since her first CD, and was very disappointed when she sort of disappeared from the music scene, for personal reasons, a while back. But I recently saw her in concert and she is back, better than ever. This new CD is great. If you liked her before, you will love this CD. She still has the Bossa Nova/Brazilian thing happening on many of the songs, but what is nice is she takes some chances on a couple of songs with some different grooves that push her into more contemorary areas, and they work brilliantly, in my opinion. Dan White, her long time musical collaborator, is just a genius with his arrangements. The musicianship is stellar throughout, as always, and her voice has never sounded stronger. This is a wondeful collection of songs.

2. Yes!! - Just as I was coming to terms that Basia was not going to come out with another album, she releases "It's That Girl Again." What a pleasant surprise! She does not disappoint. This album has the harmonies, orchestration, lyrics and little twists and turns that make me love Basia so much. The whole album pulses a jazz/Latin vibe and "Amelki Smiech," sung in her native Polish, is a fantastic addition. I've listened to this album several times in the last three days and each time I hear it I can't help but dance! Basia, please don't leave me again!

3. It's That Girl Again - I eagerly awaited Basia's return and feared that after such a long absence would be disappointed... NOT! As usual, my expectations were met and exceeded by this 'I can dance, chill, sing, loose my mind to' album. The music, lyrics, and arrangements blend together in that unique way that only Basia and her crew can deliver. 'It's That Girl Again' is definitely It's MY Girl Again!!

4. IT'S ABOUT TIME SHE CAME BACK - How great to finally listen to new music from Basia. This is a great recording and she used the original elements that made her so famous, which created her large following. I'm glad she has kept the Samba sounds in some of the songs, but what's refreshing is that they are new, not covers. I was hoping to hear more of her after Matt's Mood, and now it has finally arrived. I hope she gets to read these comments because we need to let her know she has been missing for too long. Favorite cut is "If Not Now Then When". GO BASIA!

5. OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! OMG! YYEEEESSSS!!!!!! - The Prodigal Polish Princess has returned! My prayers are answered! Basia has come to rescue us from the pop idol garbage that pollutes today's radio airwaves! Just to hear new music from her takes me back years to long drives in the Pacific Northwest with myself, my girl, a picnic basket and Basia's first two CD's. Salvation! I am sated. I am content. Thank You, Basia!

6. BASIA is finally back and better than ever - I was so excited to see that Basia had released a new solo album, and if you are a fan of her music, you will not be disappointed. My favorite tracks are "It's That Girl Again" - a melancholy tribute to a dear friend; "I Must" - a sassy upbeat breakup song; "They Know Nothing About Us" - an lively song with an addictive chorus; and "Love Lies Bleeding". Honestly, there is only one track that I don't enjoy very much, "Winners". Everything else is so enjoyable and fun. A great album to chase away the summer blues and imagine yourself lying on the beach.

7. of - Like eveyone here, I love Basia and was thrilled to see new material. I listened to a bit of track and bought the entire CD based on that. I wished I'd listened to more tracks, as I only like the first one. It's okay, Basia has given me more pleasure than any other artist has in recent history and she's the only one other than Sondre Lerche whom I have seen in concert. The other reviewers are right. Track is classic Basia. Tight sounding and just perfect. The others just don't do it for me. Thanks and more Basia in the future, I hope.

8. something for everyone - So enjoyable, Basia remains true to herself with this fan pleasing long awaited release. Her voice is wonderful, as expected, and the musicianship and arrangements solid. There is a nice balance between the up tempo songs and ballads. The lyrics seem simple but relatable; providing the structure to support the appropriate catchiness of pop songs. She and Danny White are masterful at making music which showcases her great vocal talent by combining it with a suitable variety of customized world music rhythms and instrumentals. Hard to pick a favorite track, I enjoy all the up beat numbers, especially If Not Now Then When and I Must. Can't wait for the next album.

9. Thank You Basia - I know that thanking an artist for sharing their talents with the world might sound naive, but in this case I believe it is warranted. Basia is truly a diamond, a special human among us who happens to have the most amazing voice I've ever heard. However, she seems to be incredibly humble and somewhat shy, something that is rare for someone with that amount of talent. I'm just thankful that she has given us another audio work of art to enjoy, there have been so few for someone with so much talent. I was fortunate enough to see her in concert a years or so ago during the also rare tour that she did with Matt Bianco. Musically, it was the best concert I've ever been to. I'm just thrilled that she shared this with us and now I must go so I can purchase it! Thanks Basia! P.S. If you are new to Basia, please jump right in, you won't regret it!

10. Breathtakingly Spectacular - Basia - First CD I ever owned and if I had to choose again - the first again it would be. Her Music lifts your senses and her voice makes you sit in awe admiring the talent that God bestows on some....she is one of the lucky ones to have been touched by his magic wand.....fortunate are we to have a listen to the wonder of it all in her magnificent voice and impecable interpretations. Worth waiting for..........Enjoy this treasure all! :-)

11. "That Girl" has done it again, about time -we missed you! - If you have been a Basia fan since "Time and Tide" years don't worry you will not be disappointed - her latest CD is great and has some real standouts. The current single release "Blame It On the Summer" isn't even the best and it'sa .The more I have listened to this CD the more I have loved it -esp. "A Gift" ,"Two Islands" and my current favorite "They Know Nothing About Us". Basia's voice is as strong as ever, the harmonies/arrangements gorgous as ever and I love the uplifting sentiment of the C.D. Just trust "that girl" again -she's still got it!! I am praying that you are planning to tour again (to Atlanta) -your concert in Cleveland in the Flats was one of my all time favorites! Wish I knew where to find you on XM /radio!

12. Spectacular doesn't even cover it! - Yes, a spectacular return indeed!! This is a very long-awaited return and I'm just thrilled to have my old friend back. If you are new to Basia you must purchase her recording of "Waters of March" also "Olive Tree" and Sweetest Illusion." All are a must-have for your collection. Also check out her work with Matt Bianco - especially the latest release "Matt's Mood." You will fall in love with this inimitable artist. Welcome back, Basia!!

13. Beautiful Amazing Singable Impeccably produced Accomplished BASIA!! - She's definetly back! I have always loved Basia and this new release is incredible. There are very few artists who can be dormant for so long and return, but Basia shows us that true talent never fades no matter how much time has passed.Basia and Danny have such an incredible music chemistry and everything they do together is fabulous. I cannot wait for her to tour!!

14. Yet another great offering from Basia - As far as I am concerned, the woman can do no wrong. No matter what style she sings, her voice makes it just wonderful. I have listened to her for years and will continue to do so as long as she offers music. And when she stops, I will continue to listen to her past!
2009-04-05
15. It's That Girl Again! - Basia & Danny have done it again! I counted strong songs on this album (A Gift, There's a Tear, If Not Now Then When, Amelki Smiech, Blame it on The Summer, and It's That Girl Again are my personal favorites). For a nice Basia double-dip, you can find her on Matt Boanco's album, Matt's Mood (Ordinary Day is my favorite there). When will the US tour begin, and when will she be in Atlanta? Can't wait!

16. A Great Step Back Into Writing Great Music - This is SUPER TOUGH for me. I am one of the BIGGEST Basia(matt bianco) fans. I have loved the music since the first Bianco track. I thought NOTHING could top Time And Tide and then came The Sweetest Illusion (still currently stands as her best compilation of work). I, like you, have waited ages for her new CD since the day she promised it onstage at the LA Amphitheatre when she performed the new Bianco LP MATT'S MOOD (which is a better CD than this). Basia return is great in many tracks such as the ABSOLUTELY PERFECT (and the best reason to buy the album for this song only!!) "IF NOT NOW THEN WHEN" - this is the "Third Time Lucky"/"Miles Away"/"Waters of March" Basia you are expecting...but TOO INTENSE and DRAMATIC and DARK with songs that start great but go ANGRY such as, "I MUST", "LOVE LIES BLEEDING". There are senseless songs with bad writing and lyrics that bring no meaning (sky is green, life is great, we are wonderful)...that would include "EVERYBODY IS ON THE MOVE" (ok - so they are - who cares - too repetitive)....and "WINNERS" (ok - so they are - everyone is a winner - hooray for everybody!) "TWO ISLANDS" - more great Basia tune and lyrics! "THEY KNOW NOTHING ABOUT US" another great attempt - not top of the list but good and BASIA-esque. The worst song and starts like a DREDGE of awful instrumentation then turns into a beautiful rip off of TAKE ME TO HEAVEN ...but is the most evil, dark chorus I have ever heard from such an incredible artist. Allow me the ignorance of MAYBE not realizing that this is a Polish Anthem. But this piece of shrek is the worst set of notes placed next to eachother I have ever heard. If you heard this song first and NEVER knew who Basia was you would never listen to another note. It's simply awful. Last track - "ITS THAT GIRL AGAIN" had the opportunity to be SO fun but is meloncholy sad and drab/depressing and makes us feel she is feeling regret in her life. Didn't we all ASSUME that "That Girl Again" was Basia - if so...CHEER UP! ...the title itself promised me so much joy out of this new cd. It's not there. I fear she is feeling outdated and insecure and I wish she would know that music is timeless. She IS bossa nova whether dark like Take Him Back Rachael or happy like Miles Away...but - AMELKI SMIECH? Seriously? TOO DARK and as ugly as the words themselves look on paper. Basia - We love you - we are dying to hear more from you - but cheer up! You have a gift so many don't - play it.

17. Basia is back and she's great! - After too many years.... Basia is back and we are glad she is. Once again she has not disappointed her fans who have waited for her next album release and "It's That Girl Again" is good! It is very clear that time has not lessened her talent, creativity or energy. This album has a brazilian jazz theme and it is wonderful. You will not be disappointed. BASIA is the best!

18. MUST BUY!! - Basia, THANK YOU!!! You have done it again!! We have to wait a while between each album, and that is where true quality is born. Thank you for the incredible thought you put into every lyric of every song. Your haunting harmonies are AMAZING!! I will never forget what "A GIFT" you are to the music world. BUY THIS ALBUM, PEOPLE!!!

19. BASIA WE LOVE YOU!!!!!! - OK, for a year old who knew Basia in my 's, the girl really is back again!!! Thank you Basia for pulling this album off! You did an amazing job. I absolutely LOVE your voice in "There's A Tear" and how you jam it out on "Everybody's On the Move". There isn't a bad song on the album and we can't wait for your tour! (come to Salt Lake City!!!) WE LOVE YOU!!!!!!! Keep singing!!!!

20. There are moments you wait for all your life.... - I have been following Basia since the early eighties when she worked with Matt Bianco. I cherish all her work. Somehow, her music is always relevant to whatever is going on in my life and it sort of becomes a soundtrack to my experiences. Her journey in life is one of honesty and vulnerability, and Danny and her seem to know the magic bullet that captures it all into well produced and beautiful songs, album after album. Her music has been life changing for me...how bout you?

21. Lows and Highs here - As a big Fan I am basically disappointed. There are sadly only out Good to Excellent tracks. Song/track numbers: -If Not Now Then When: Excellent, Stars. Thats the way to be, Basia. -Someone for Everyone: Poor Stars Location in Seconds - sec to , : to :, : to :, Here the chords appear mismatched to rest of song and it has an obscure undefined tonal mood. Amateurish trumpets are nothing like the Jazzy ones on Third time Lucky ('). - I Must: Fair, . Stars. Song started so great, just so exciting hear the driving sound, and vocal harmony I love from earlier but then the big change to the dark and sinister– but also ugly and unsophisticated. -(:s to :s ) which is weird/ out of place/ over the top / perhaps amaturish. -(:s to :s) I hate the arrival here of an old-sound Leslie Organ here. and the echoey sound of "around here" at the ending is sloppy. -A Gift: Fair, . Stars.- Too basic, a bit repetitive with shallow lyrics about "us" -Everybody's On the Move: Very Good, Stars.- Urban dwellers only need apply here. With a little more funky and syncopated danceable treatment it could, and would, be easily used in any NYC dance club. Needs another bridge/passage to really fly.ie: Topically, a verse that expresses the "everybody's grass is Greener..." thought, then write about something Environmental too. as in 'Save the Earth' stuff... as a concept to play off the Tech grove and fast-moving theme. -There's a Tear: Excellent, stars. A classic Love song. Has the simple, caring emotion evoked with voices/electric piano. -Blame It On the Summer: Pretty Good, . Stars- A very good basa-nova as we know them for, but the lyrics need a catchier hook, or statement of what is meant by "run away from you" such as why run away?, break-away how? tell a story about 'one summer' maybe. -Two Islands: Excellent, stars. A unique and especially soothing song and composition. It will take you away. Powerful like "Yearning" was in (') -Love Lies Bleeding: Awful, Stars Using "so altruistic" ( yucky sounding word, I would much rather have heard them sing "very unselfish") , sec to s- OOooOOOooohh & following verses sound is a crass/ugly attempt at an eery/painful mood change. The staccato voices and trumpets are painful to listen to. She sings it like she is not into-it either. -Winners: Good, Stars.- Just too reliant on various percussion and not fully developed in composition. -They Know Nothing About Us: Very Good, Stars. : sec -s horn passage is not nearly as exquisite as the rest of the song. The minor-note twists are good improv. -Amelki Smiech: (Polish lyrics)- Bad Star (Even in the English language I wouldn't take this song along on my iPod) The intro keyboard synthesizer is used to BEND the notes. Thats plain weird sounding. Stevie Wonder in invented sounds from the endless possibilities from synthesizers. He rules that art form of the synthesizer. Mr White could come up with an alternative that is expressing the same emotional outcome but still is closer to the listeners taste or likes. At the end of the song they involve people shouting? and clapping? Babies crying while their parents get drunk? what? again odd....like that Rachel's Wedding ending ('). I do not relate at all to anything here because it seems meant for the Polish alone, but why on this worldwide release? -It's That Girl Again: OK, / Stars. Verse ( sec -) "all is good.... and well" comes off kind of oddly redundant. and topically ego reliant. Music does drag, in pace. No soaring vocals? just flat. The end goes well due to the evocative harmonies I love of hers ( : ). The sings build-up could have gotten really fun and positive after she sings " she has the time, time of her life...". ie: what if there bam! Danny 's keyboard music could go-crazy in solo to lift UP 'that girl' and us again.

22. You Did It Again Basia! - I must admit I'm pleasantly surprised how well done this new album is. Making comeback albums can be pretty tricky but Basia pulled it off. Let's not forget her longtime collaborator Danny White as well. The fans wanted Basia material and thats what they got. She didn't compromise herself as an artist to try and fit into todays pop radio market. She stayed true to herself. Her voice is more beautiful than ever. This album is pure ear candy and well worth the wait.

23. The 'Girl' is back again... - I caught her act with Matt Bianco on their last tour (a few years back). She is just like fine wine. Gets better with age (not necessarily chronologically... I mean the more she works her craft). Intoxicating vocal work with the soft bossa nova beats is like candy to the ear. I was tickled when she returned with Matt Bianco, now to have something new by her... it's like Christmas in March! Bravo...good show! (Only thing missing is digi/liner notes... part of what makes Basia so great is her personality, I'd like to read about it).

24. FINALLY! - I've waited for years and years and years for Basia to come up with a new album. Her music played a significant part in my life and she is only one of two artists (the other one being Swing Out Sister) I can't live without. She delivers the goods in this one. She never makes a cd that has only one or two tracks carrying the strength of the whole album - practically all cuts are potential hits.
2009-03-26
25. At Last! - if you enjoyed Basia "back in the eighties", you'll enjoy this album: the same dreamy vocals, the same danceable music! it's almost as if these nearly twenty years haven't passed; Basia sounds as fabulous today as she did back then! hopefully, this is the beginning of more wonderful music from this gifted musician!
2009-03-25
26. Basia is back! - I've waited so long for this wonderful album. I was very satisfied to hear that Basia stuck to her signature style and even broke some of those boundaries with great songs like "I Must" and "Someone for Everyone". We even get a few sultry ballads as well. This album was worth the wait and I hope that more is coming. I am very excited to see Basia perform on her upcoming tour. Buy this album! For a similar sound, check out Swing Out Sister. Thanks for the new album, Basia!

27. It's That Girl Again - Basia is BACK! - Basia, who gained notoriety during the 's with such chart toppers as "Time and Tide" is indeed BACK with a new album. With a three octave range, personal lyrics and a smorgasbord of styles - both danceable and emotionally powerful - Basia is a true musician of the world. Her return to the music scene is a welcome breath of fresh air. All of the songs on "It's That Girl Again" are each unique entrees with their own energy and distinct vibrant Basia style - yet still feeling completely part of the entire catalogue of wonderful music she has given us over the years. You won't be disappointed, for after all this wait, it's that girl again - the incomparable Basia is BACK!
2009-03-24
28. Spectacular return!!! - At long last, Basia has FINALLY returned with her fourth album of original solo material! Comebacks can be sketchy, especially if one is away as long as years, but the material on this album sounds as if Basia stepped away for only months. Her voice hasn't changed one bit and she fiercely works her cocktail-jazz magic with her signature vocals and densely laid harmonies. Danny White can still rip up a piano. It is so nice to hear these two making original, fun, and intelligent music again. Highlight tracks include "If Not Now Then When," "There's A Tear," "Love Lies Bleeding," and "Winners."

1. CLASSIC BABS - Not simply one of Barbra Streisand's greatest albums, full of many of her greatest hits of the 's, but one of the greatest pop albums ever. And to the unfortunate soul who thinks that the songs Stay Away and Deep in the Night were on the original LP, I can assure you that they were not. They were songs from her album, "Songbird", and weren't even singles. I still remember the day when I was sixteen years old and bargained with my Mom at KMart to give me enough money to be able to buy the LP. I told her that it could be half hers, and, since she loved Barbra, too, she consented. Thanks, Mom. And thanks, Barbra, for so many splendid memories.

2. Awesome Collection - I have always felt a little more attention should have been given this cd when the format was switched from vinyl. The overall mastering of this cd is, well, bad and should have been one of the cd's remastered when vintage lp's were given that treatment in either or . It certainly is worthy given the content. This cd brings together Barbra's finest singles from most of her 's releases, she would chart new territory in disco after this album, nothing from her "Lazy Afternoon" lp, "Funny Lady" or "Butterfly" was included, a new single from the soundtrack "The Eyes Of Laura Mars (Prisoner)" and was one of Barbra's hardest rocking songs, and the re-recording of "You Don't Bring Me Flowers" with Neil Diamond makes this lp cohesive and definitive. Again, I really wish this cd was given the sonic enhancement is so very much deserves.

3. Missing Some Cuts - This album was great, but the change in format from LP to CD seems to have left the last two cuts in the dust. There were twelve cuts on the LP by this title. The last two were "Deep in the Night" and "Stay Away." Seems to me that a lot of CD space was simply wasted, and the fans shortchanged, when they changed format.
