Our card this season is Darlene Hulse, the 4 of Hearts from Indiana. Darlene Hulse was forcibly taken from her home in Argos, Indiana on August 17, 1984. Her two oldest daughters witnessed the attack but they didn’t recognize the man who took their mother. Though Darlene’s body would be found a day later, just six miles from her home, her killer has evaded law enforcement for almost four decades and the investigation has remained cold…until now.

1. Incredible Story - Too Many Ads Short Episodes - Phenomenal work!!! The joy of listening to this podcast was hindered by the plethora of repetitive ads and very short episodes. I would have much rather preferred longer episodes without having to press fwd constantly. I mean…I still binged the whole thing, but still! Lol

2. obsessed - i have listened to this podcast all the way through times, each time i grab on to something new. during the second time, i made a murder board to keep track of all the twists, turns, facts, players, and everything in between. Ashley Flowers has done exactly what she intended. She got us hooked, turning this case over in our heads. she got us to care about this family. i think law enforcement and investigators may be covering a couple things up, and now, the pressure and awareness that this podcast has started might be exactly what is needed to uncover those last few facts needed.

3. Worth listening to! - I really enjoyed the episodes and appreciate the work that was put into this series. I do feel like episodes were a bit much. Or they could’ve made each episode longer. Overall, worth the listen and hearing the story/stories! I really felt for the daughters and husband. A horrible tragedy. And just as a side note… the growling that the daughters described hearing during their mother’s attack reminds me of Kenneth’s voice in his interview. Honestly it gave me chills listening to him talk.

4. Heartbroken - Episode perfectly summed up the WHY. Why they do podcasts like this, cases like this. It’s about the person and the families who are left to struggle with what happened. In this case, struggle of not knowing. The voice recordings made me cry like a baby at work where I listen. Please sign the petition and donate if you are able!

5. Excellent Investigative Journalism - I drive a lot and love that this podcast is in minute increments. The investigative work, the host and editing is excellent. It is put together very professionally and is extremely entertaining. I really hope they find Darlene’s killer. Such a sad story. The DA sounds like he should retire as he is clearly not motivated to do more and is overwhelmed with his caseload. I don’t understand why the file is even with him. It should be with the police to continue to investigate.

6. Ashley is always great - There’s a lot of negative reviews. I wouldn’t say this was biased, they discussed many different suspects, made sure to let us know people have no implications or evidence, etc. the sound effects didn’t bother me like some either. I know counterclock and the serial podcasts use it too. It was a little more cheesy than the deck or crime junkie but still enjoyable and a great story to focus on. My favorite thing about the deck is that they bring in people to interview to get first hand knowledge and help the victims’ loved ones.
2023-03-23
7. Good not great - also… unethical recording? - Good, not great. Entertaining, maybe not ethical? If the team are “investigative journalists”, I’m fairly certain federal law requires the consent before recording in-person, telephone, or electronic conversations. I was really turned off when John Paul Clarke was interviewed in episode , and specifically says, “are you recording me, you should have told me that.” It felt really skeezy, and I felt the fact that Ashley didn’t address it was really off-putting. Idk, we spent episodes talking about the “disinterested, not transparent, on the defense” police leading this case, but we don’t call out that we unethically recorded someone. So, again, good, not great - entertaining, maybe not ethical”.

8. Amazing podcast - I don’t listen to podcasts very often, but a co-worker turned me on to crime junkie. I am heartbroken for this family and completely disgusted with the police and prosecutor. He is lazy and useless. It seriously makes me wonder if he he is trying to hide something. I was in tears during the last episode. I hope and pray that you guys uncover answers for this precious family!

1. Shame on you Dateline! Read my review to find out why. - They let you listen for free to the first episodes of a story, then you have to pay to hear the remaining episodes! That’s terrible! Be honest with us and tell us at the beginning. I’ve unsubscribed and will never listen to another of your podcasts!
2023-03-24
2. Deceptive marketing - This is one of many podcast networks that utilizes the marketing tactic of making the final episode subscription only, requiring you to pay for the final episode. While this tactic must work to some degree, it is deceptive and I refute to support or recommend any network utilizing this marketing strategy.
2023-03-22
3. Surprised - I have been a loyal podcast and TV watcher of Dateline my whole life and was surprised to find that in “the girl in blue mustang” podcast the first few episodes were free then the last episode requires a subscription. Pretty sneaky maybe a lower budget podcast, but not what I expected from Dateline. Shame on you!
2023-03-19
4. Keith Morrison is the BEST!!!!!!! - I have watched every episode of Dateline NBC, Secrets Uncovered, and Unforgettable. I love it when I’m watching at the very beginning and I hear Keith Morrison’s voice. He has the gift of story telling that no one can match. So glad to be able to now listen to Dateline podcasts!!! I am already caught up. Keep them coming please!!!!
2023-03-17
5. Annoying subscription model as is the norm now. - Why have one long episode when you chop it into fifths and sell times the ads and charge for a subscription service! I for one love getting punished with interruptive, obnoxious ads and delayed access to episodes for not adding yet another recurring bill to my life especially when I already pay for cable and peacock.

6. Dateline and Keith Morrison are amazing!! I DEFINITELY recommend!! - Love love love!! Great case (by which I mean that it’s tragic, gripping, important to tell, and very interesting) and great host- Keith Morrison is AMAZING, as usual!! (Keith- as everyone else probably already said, you are my FAVORITE Dateline Host! PLEASE do more specials AND some regular episodes!! Everyone else on the dateline team- you are all INCREDIBLE reporters and storytellers, too!) As always, the storytelling is FANTASTIC, the research is exhaustive but not overwhelming, and you’re on the edge of your seat the whole time!! I highly recommend this podcast to any fans of Dateline, “Helen & Olga”, The Thing About Pam, and Murder & Magnolias!! (Full disclosure- after listening to the first episode, I decided to wait until the entire series is available bc I prefer to binge this type of serialized podcast all at once.) ENJOY!
2023-03-14
7. Born storyteller - Keith Morrison is one of my go to people when I can find nothing else that interests me enough to watch or listen to. I can watch or listen to anything he does. Doesn’t matter if I’ve listened to it before I learn something different every time. Dateline in general is that way. They have compiled a fantastic group of journalists who are some of the best there ever has been. Keep up the great work!

8. Riveting!! - Another riveting podcast from Dateline!
Michelle O’Keefe is the year old Girl in the Blue Mustang, cut down in the prime of her life. The mystery before us is what happened to this beautiful girl with so much promise. No one excavates mysteries such as these quite like Dateline. This podcast has everything you have come to expect from Dateline: compelling interviews, twists and turns, and the smooth stylings of the one and only Keith Morrison. As always, the victim is treated with great respect and affection. My heart aches for her parents. I was hooked from the first few moments, and
I can’t wait for the next episode!

1. Talking Dateline - I love the new series Talking Dateline. It’s a great idea and I look forward to more. The first episode with Josh and Keith was perfect. Lots of good insights about the case. It was nice to hear the personal feelings from the correspondents. It draws the audience closer to the process and endears us to those involved even more. I appreciated hearing about the people behind the scenes as well because they are also responsible for the perfection that is Dateline. And of course I loved the banter. Thank you so much for doing this! Stella S.
2023-03-21
2. A little bit more editing, please - Dateline always does solid reporting, the problem is that they’re lazy in turning these episodes into the podcast. There are references to pictures and video that we obviously can’t see in a podcast. It would be easy enough to edit around these comments, but they don’t. They are heavy on the ad play, but I’m always good to fast forward. If you’d like to listen to dateline as you clean the house and never actually look at the television, this is the podcast for you.

3. Finding Rita and Talking: Finding Rita - Thanks so much for the podcasts of your TV shows. I like being able to listen to them instead of sitting in a chair and watching on TV—listening engages my mental mind more (like reading a book!). Thanks to Josh for asking the question about the possible source of the social media threats to KK, as I had the same question after listening to the original podcast. I like it when additional background information is provided as in the “Talking” podcast—please do more of them! I had appreciated the brief talking notes of the other shows/podcasts, including Britanee Drexel, which I had recently listened to so they were quite fresh in my mind. I have loved your TV shows for years but am an AVID podcast lover, so please continue with the podcasts—THANK YOU SO MUCH!

4. Strong arm tactics - New comment… I downloaded Girl in the Blue Mustang and listened to the first couple of episodes. Then it got put behind a paywall. Clever! Ah well, I enjoy Dateline on TV and the free episodes here on the pod. I love Dateline and have listened to the podcast a long time. But now I guess one cannot listen without paying for the upgrade. You click on the play button and it takes you directly to the paywall. Clever.
2023-03-15
5. Was great but then… - They stopped letting us listen to many shows even with ads and switched to subscription only for many podcasts. NBC is a mega media giant yet they want to charge me to listen to old shows. I stopped listening. There are better shows that are still free with ads. I stopped watching the network also.
2023-03-14
6. Money grab! - Edit: And now you just make random, old episodes that I’ve already listened to part of the subscription?? My god, that is LAME. When is it enough money for you? In the beginning, I was so excited about this “podcast” because I could listen to all the stories I’ve already watched every Friday night on Dateline. It literally costs NBC nothing, because it’s just audio of the tv program. There used to be one or two, one minute ad breaks per show. Of course, nothing good lasts forever, and corporate greed is a thing, so now there are multiple ad breaks during each show. I listen daily for hours at a time, so I really notice the difference. And the subscription money grab is a joke. There’s nothing new or innovative happening there. Anyone who pays is a fool, no offense. I will still listen, because I love Keith, Josh, Dennis and Andrea, but we see you, NBC and Dateline! This is not ridiculous.
2023-03-10
7. - People here need to get off their soapbox. It’s a great show and great correspondents. They advertise other shows to offer things you might be interested in. Live a little. Subscribe to premium if you want to bypass ads. Dateline is popular for a reason. They keep doing what has and does work. The recipe is right.
2023-03-10
8. Shows great, app awful - I enjoy the podcasts, but the app is ridiculous. It continuously pulls up all the episodes you’ve listened to. You can intentionally mark them read, but it does no good. And I have to go through a bunch of hoops to list all episodes to go back and select an unwatched one. It’s really ridiculous.

From the creators of Up and Vanished and Radio Rental, host Payne Lindsey attempts to break the stigma surrounding the topic of UFOs. In this new investigative series, Lindsey shines light on real-life coverups, and infamous cases, all while leaving the tinfoil hat at the door. In the last few years, dozens of Navy pilots have come forward with compelling video evidence of objects in the sky that defy our current understanding of physics. The Pentagon has since confirmed the validity of these ac...

1. I want to believe - I’m already in love with this new Payne Lindsey project. Intriguing stories, great interviews. Worth a listen for skeptics and believers alike. I had sent Payne a UFO video back in April , way before the podcast was announced. My brother had accidentally caught it on film (in the daytime!) and didn’t notice it until editing the footage for work. What a coincidence! Or was it? Maybe I’m psychic … or maybe I am an alien?!
2023-03-24
2. I’m already looking forward to the next episode - There is a lot of alien content out there. Some of it is compelling, some of it is more like ASMR. That’s where an human being uses another human being’s vocal chittering to pursue relaxation, yes? Anyway, there’s plenty of content out there, but Payne Lindsey knows how to throw a podcast. It’s got beats, it’s got movement through the stories, it’s got exciting interviews with humans who have been reticent to discuss their experiences. Best of all, the first episode features Travis Walton, who my buddyfriend Globordo swears he has met, even though we both know that borbeeker was light years away that week bathing in the living waters of (gtyhdernjii. Annnnyway, I’m an “alien”, so I appreciate when you silly little guys get our story up to down and front to back. Keep it up, human creatures.

3. Payne does it again. - Binging this podcast. Aliens have always been a fear of mine, heightened recently by all the government admissions that these things are true. Always thought it was strange how the world didn’t absolutely freak out like I was when these admissions made the news. This is the content I didn’t know I needed and delivered by a favorite, Payne Lindsay. Oh yeah and I’m an alien .
2023-03-24
4. - Payne, UFOs, Aliens and Tenderfoot? This is the best show I can think of since I was deep into “Roswell” on the CW back in the late s . I have been waiting for this podcast to start for months and now it’s finally here (Terry sent me) Also cannot WAIT for Radio Rental to start back up ….also I’m an alien ….but for real, I have been to Roswell twice, Area , and the little A’Le’Inn motel in Rachel, NV a few times so the obsession is real and I’m stoked to hear some real dirt on what’s goin on up there

5. Reminds me of Mad Men’s Michael Ginsberg - “Actually I’m from Mars. It’s ok if you don’t believe me. I’m a full blooded Martian. Don’t worry, there’s no plot to take over earth—we’re just displaced.” I’m an alien myself and we just want you to know, we’re glad our story is getting out there. Inspiring really. Cheers to further discovery The Truth is Out There
2023-03-24
6. - I, as an alien, approach shows that reference our various modes of transport, visitations and propensity for “borrowing” people with a little sigh and head shake. THIS one though… High Strange gets it. It makes me feel seen in a way that is both uncomfortable and an honor. Really though, give this a listen! Big fan!
2023-03-24
7. The reason I am awake at night - To be honest, Payne Lindsey could do a podcast on paint drying and I would binge it. HOWEVER this is MUCH more interesting and in pure Payne Lindsey fashion, extremely addictive. I would have ended up here whether terry sent me or not! Thank you for opening our minds to places we haven’t taken them
2023-03-24
8. - Payne and his team never miss. Truly out of this world . His podcasts go above and beyond, are so informative, and aesthetics always on point. I knew something strange was in the works when I saw him post photos on his Instagram over a year back at the UFO watchtower in Colorado. I had just visited a month before him.
The truth is out there. I am an alien. I’m still down to Earth, though.

1. Amazing! - I love this podcast so much! I just wanted to leave a suggestion, as a mom or young kids I don't like listening to murders or missing children cases. Could y'all put the age of the victim in the description for every episode so it's easy to see the victims age? You do most of the time but sometimes it's not. Thank you for all you do!
2023-03-24
2. AMAZING - i absolutely LOVE this podcast. i love ashley and britt. they are so great at telling these true stories. i love listening to you guys. And a special thank you for being a foster parent because as a former foster child, we need more foster parents to love and actually care for these kids. so much love for you guys
2023-03-24
3. Gradually Gotten Worse - I have been playing catch up as long as I have been listening. I have made it to the episodes, but the podcast has gotten progressively worse over about the last year to year and a half. The poor verbal grammar has always bothered me: “the police’s” and the overabundance of the word “like.” There are others that bother me, but those two bother me the most. The most aggravating thing is the increasing wokeness and anti-police bias. I come here to be exposed to interesting true crime stories. I don’t need to be preached to about pronouns or gender or sex workers or any other litany of social justice issues. I also don’t need to hear in every episode from a non-law enforcement host about what the police should have done or could have done or did wrong. You have zero law enforcement and crime scene training. Hindsight is /. You have information and facts available now that may have not been available at the time. There have also been a couple of episodes I recently listened to that were bashing police procedure. In the Faith Hegepeth episode, Ashley was outraged that the other apartments in Faith’s roommate’s apartment building weren’t searched during the murder investigation. Illegal search and seizure is protected by the th amendment. Just because someone gets murdered in an apartment in an apartment building doesn’t mean that police can just go searching through everyone else’s homes. You have to have reason to go search each apartment and get a judge to sign off on a search warrant for each one. “A murder happened nearby” isn’t enough to get said search warrant. To tell your listeners that it should have been done is extremely misleading. In the Anthony Sowell episode, there was outrage over the amount of time that it took police to make contact with one of the victims. People without a stable home life are often difficult to track down. They went so far as to contact her mother in hopes of locating her, and her mother even said that she would be difficult to contact. Early on in the episode, when discussing all of the attempts to contact the victim that the police said they took, the police seemed to have been (rightfully) given a pass. Then during the re-cap at the end of the episode, they were blamed for not following up fast enough. So which is it? You can’t have it both ways. There have been others, but these are two that stuck out to me. I am not a police officer, but education and common sense helped me see what was incorrect in the above two scenarios. It seems like you are looking for reasons to bash the police at every turn. It happens at least once an episode now. It’s surprising since you sat down with a police officer (I believe Indiana State Patrol) for one of your episodes fairly early on. Frankly, I’m shocked that any police officer would sit down with you for an interview for this podcast, and I would urge them not to sit down with you at this point. As for Britt, I’m not going to bag on her. In the early episodes, I enjoyed some of the back and forth between Ashley and Britt. It seems to me that Britt isn’t really allowed to make any comments outside of what is scripted for her. It’s a shame too. I know my opinion won’t change anything, but these are all of the reasons why I will no longer be listening. As many others have said, there are plenty of true-crime podcasts out there. I will give one of them a listen instead.
2023-03-23
4. The Very Best THANK YOU - I’ve been listening for about years and the show is amazing! I love how it really explains in detail what has happened and the circumstances that have taken place. Thank you Brit for always being able to describe pictures and sketches! I got my best friend hooked on the show recently! Love you Ashley and Brit you have gotten me through my toughest times like when my grandpa was going through Covid and Liver Cancer. He lived the show also! Whenever I would visit him in the hospital we would talk about what we had listened to! This show definitely helped him last longer I don’t care what they say. Love you guys keep making the show to carry on my grandpas memory.

5. Ugh stop interrupting - Ashley is great but Brit?!!!! So useless. She looks like like a poc so as a fellow poc please stop judging. Really the commentary is stupid, pointless, useless. Why can’t it be only ashley? Brit’s constant interrupting is annoying, useless. Ashley speak. Brit, ur family hunts… I don’t care… you are a mom…I don’t care…u have pointless commentary…still don’t care. I just want to hear the story or how I can make a difference. Please STOP interrupting but please keep going with the Puppet of the Month. Honestly, Ashley just do this podcast on your own so I don’t have to fast forward through annoying, pointless Brit

6. Discouraged about investigative ethics. - Feeling discouraged about investigative ethics after listening to The Deck Investigates. I already had some qualms about the plagiarism accusations, but The Deck Investigates gave me new concerns about ethical reporting and investigation. It was over-sensationalized speculation. I’m extremely disappointed in the way the audiochuck team harassed individuals (who had repeatedly declined interviews) at their own homes for the sake of podcast entertainment. I can also understand frustration with law enforcement, but bashing their work doesn’t feel like the best way to encourage detectives to solve a crime. As much as we’d all love to know the details, podcasters are not entitled to all of the information law enforcement may have about a case. I often wonder how much audiochuck’s approach hurts or hinders an investigation for this reason. I’ve been a long time fan of Crime Junkie, but now have a hard time feeling comfortable supporting this sensationalized and unethical style of “reporting” Wish we could go back to the early days.
2023-03-20
7. Use to love - No longer a patreon. Ashley’s Bias interferes with good reporting. Political views are obvious. If it’s not a story where she can bash the police or accuse some one of discrimination, they don’t tell it. Easy to point out what you think people are doing wrong when you’re not in the profession yourself. And what’s with that cussing now? Faked anger with bleeps every episode.
2023-03-20
8. Eh - I don’t love how they make cases about race. I felt like they made me (a Caucasian) detective feel racist. They are clearly left wing but I am not a racist and I don’t appreciate how they talk about law enforcement. If they have any better ideas that don’t involve making people pay more on taxes then I would love to hear it. Please stop making enforcement out to be racist because it’s uneducated and disrespectful

Kim Barker, a Pulitzer Prize-winning investigative reporter for The New York Times, revisits an unsolved murder that took place while she was in high school in Laramie, Wyoming, nearly 40 years ago. She confronts the conflicting stories people have told themselves about the crime because of an unexpected development: the arrest of a former Laramie police officer accused in the murder.
Release date: 2023-02-23
Comments
1. Still Cold - Barker clearly states that if she were to use the ‘I did it’ ‘confession’ lines in the wrong context, she’d be fired. However, that’s exactly what was done: the ‘I did it’ recording was used from the first episode to make us think this man confessed, when he actually didn’t. That’s irresponsible, unfair to the listener and was used to hook in so many people to an otherwise incredibly boring podcast that just poked and prodded folks that didn’t deserve it. Lastly, although I sympathize with her upbringing in Laramie, one can insert almost any small town in America and come up with the same childhood stories. No offense to Laramie, but it’s not very special, just as my small Texas town upbringing was not that special.
2023-03-23
2. Loved the podcast!! - Coldest Case in Laramie was that perfect murder mystery where is seems fairly cut and dry after the first episode but it winds up being everything but that. Was on the edge of my seat the whole way!! Side note, I met Kim Barker last summer in NYC. We talked, shared dog pics and she could not have been a nicer human being! She even brought up her trips to Laramie in preparation for this podcast!
2023-03-23
3. Skip this podcast - The reporter asks tough questions to the good guys and then goes easy on the core suspect. Twists and turns are manufactured to give this story some semblance of plot. Then the reporter is left reaching for a pithy way to conclude the series when in reality the reporting has added nothing new. Also, poor sound quality.
2023-03-22
4. Advertisements make this unlistenable - I was unable to keep up with the first episode due to all of the commercial breaks. Without even knowing where the series is going, I would have been willing to pay rather than face multiple breaks per episode. Shame, regardless of where the story goes I would have been happy to listen more.
2023-03-21
5. Thorough and Authentic - Really enjoyed this. The pace of new and interesting revelations was spot on. Sadly it revealed so many major faults in our criminal justice system. Primarily those with power who claim they “know” something they can’t possibly know! Unless Det. Terry was there he can’t KNOW what happened. The search for justice needs to be a search for truth. And sometimes the truth is simply unknowable.
2023-03-20
6. Hard to Listen To - I had high hopes for this podcast, this case has intrigued me since Fred’s arrest. Instead of trying to find the truth, Kim puts the entire town on trial - it’s very obvious she has a negative opinion on this town and the people in it. Hopefully Crime Junkie takes this case on
2023-03-20
7. Pretty disappointing - This podcast was a slog. Kim Barker might be a good reporter, but her narration was very monotone and bland. In the last episode, she also fails to press her interviewees on important issues (her producer tries harder to pin the subjects down). Finally, a true crime podcast that muses on the fallibility of memory in its final moments? That’s beyond trite these days.
2023-03-20
8. Bad police job , not great reporting either - This started out well , but fell apart . His wife thought Fred did it . She blamed it on PTSD & his navy seal training Vietnam . Fred Lamb claimed he’d killed someone in wartime and then Shelley . Now he says he didn’t and oh by the way he wasn’t a seal . The other people in the case were doubted on their memories , but Fred and Linda weren’t . After this happened the police only wanted the African Americans ons the football team and the Hispanics bad boys as their suspects. They investigated the roommate who wasn t there as if she was a crime . They didn’t even think it was odd a married drunk policeman staying with a friend who’s DNA was on site . The police “ lost” lots of evidence and the only detective , Terry , who did a thorough job on the case believes the ex policeman did it . The police deserve a lot more scorn than they got. I think this podcast gave the family hope , then came up believing it wasn’t. That interview the Lamb’s was soft . The reporter indicates she may be leaning toward Fred .But at the very end , the last minute it’s Larry ?

For years, some law enforcement agencies have replaced the faces of traditional playing card decks with images of missing and murdered people and distributed those cards in prisons hoping inmates would come forward with information needed to crack these cold cases wide open. 1. Clearly in it for the glory - Considering the fact that this podcast idea is ripped straight from another, previously existing podcast and the fact that Ashley is simply attempting to get notoriety for “investigating”, I question her motivation in actually getting Justice for any victims. It seems pretty clear (especially with her incessantly annoying advertising at the beginning of all of AudioChuck pods) that she’s in it for the glory and recognition and potentially the money. Sit down, keep it journalistic, and leave the investigation to the LEOs who actually know what they’re doing.
2023-03-24
2. Excellent!! - This podcast is by far one of the best I’ve listened to over the years. Ashley flowers can tell a story like no other! She is so passionate about all the stories she tells and the victims in each. I hope in the end her stories lead to closure for the victims families. Hopefully she will do follow ups on the cold cases in her podcasts if they are ever solved. The newer podcast series she does includes others, ground investigator/detective, experts in their field, all narrators just add to the story. So very interesting to hear the expertise they have to offer, and the effort they put into each case, especially going door to door to find answers is truly remarkable on their part! I highly recommend this podcast!
2023-03-24
3. Just barely entertaining enough - The host’s cringey liberal newspeak is a little grating, for example, “people who are experiencing homelessness”. That and the total ignorance demonstrated by her casual police bashing. It doesn’t reach a level that I think anyone should find offensive, but I roll my eyes once or twice per episode. Fine for background noise, but it’s % low-tier guilty pleasure material. The plagiarism accusations are news to me, but I wouldn’t be surprised.
2023-03-24
4. Truly the BEST True Crime Podcast - I’m new to podcasts but I’ve always loved True Crime Stories. So far this is the ONLY TC Podcast I will listen to. I love Ashely’s voice, and her ability to tell the store so well I can visualize it. I love her commitment to the victims and families. Thank you, to you and your Team. You inspire me

5. Definitely an enjoyable listen - I mostly listen to this podcast while commuting from home to school and vise versa (I go to school away from home) and even if the case confuses me, which sometimes I pause to rant, the theme music is absolutely my favorite! I didn’t even know the victim playing cards were a thing until I found this podcast

6. No Originality Pushed Agenda - I use to really like Crime Junkie because Ashley has a way to draw in the listeners and honestly she was posting episodes of cases I never heard of until recently. So I stopped listening to CJ because I realized there was VERBATIM plagiarism. I thought I was losing it because I was like, didn’t I just hear this? Thought I was having Deja Vu, but nope. Plagiarism. So I turned to The Deck thinking it was different. At first it was nice hearing truly unsolved stories and not highly talked about cases. But then…The Deck started the plagiarism yet again. Many of the cases are already out and a lot of plagiarism on it as well. Not just that but the the cases are not “cold”. It’s just the known suspect either passed away and the evidence is % pointing at them or the suspect is alive but the known killer is not arrested and they have the evidence they just want more before they make the arrest. I want stories of cases that are truly at a standstill because the evidence is so minimal or cases we haven’t heard of that can benefit of someone knowing information. Doing stories where they already have the suspect and evidence is not okay. What happened to the lost voices? Another thing…stop with the wokeness and pushed agenda.

7. Oh, but the “exiting” - Love Ashley, long time fan. But why this choppy, just terrible cut/splice/paste? Ashley’s instinctive narration style works so well— maybe just a stretchy to meet the format? The editing is distracting and feels so forced…. A/I? Still…. Ashley is a passionate and talented storyteller worth following.

8. I’m over it - I’m done hearing about sex workers or drug addicts. I wish them well and not harm but I don’t want to waste my precious podcast time hearing about someone who put themselves in a bad place to get killed. I want to hear about actual victims and now we can help those innocent people. This host keeps pushing her woke agenda on listeners and I’m no longer a fan.

For nearly 100 years, one family traded influence and held power in the South Carolina lowcountry until a fatal boat crash involving an allegedly intoxicated heir-apparent shed sunlight on a true crime saga like no other. Award-winning journalist Mandy Matney has been investigating the Murdaugh family since that fateful night in 2019. The now-infamous Murdaugh family is at the center of a litany of criminal investigations into fraud, obstruction of justice, the 2021 double homicides of Paul ...

1. Great Content, Uncomfortable Delivery - It’s a very interesting podcast but the vocal affect and cadence take away from the content. What’s strange is when they play recordings of their phone calls, the affect drops and their cadence is more conversational. It’s worse when they end a phone call go back to the narrative portions of an episode.
2023-03-24
2. The worst true-crime podcast I’ve ever heard - I cannot believe how many episodes this podcast published. I cannot believe the ratings. If this had been a TV show, it would not have been picked up after the pilot. Any reporting done is overshadowed by ego and abysmal production value. / do not recommend.
2023-03-23
3. Research on a Granular Level - Fantastic podcast, extremely thoroughly researched. She uses documents, recordings, and other original sources and finds a through line to this Byzantine tale of gothic Southern murder. I sincerely hope that when this whole story is told that she is writing a book—I know that I’ll read it. Great, great stuff.

4. Better than any drama movie out there - I didn’t learn about the podcast until the trial started. After seeing Mandy’s interview with Katie Couric. After listening to one episode, I am hooked, I went back to episode , and validated even more how accurate is the investigative journalism from Mandy and Fitnews is.
Thank you for your hard work and bringing to life a clear understanding of a broken system. I truly believe that you open doors for others to look beyond the obvious and keep asking questions

5. Thankful! - So thankful for Mandy and Liz, as well as Eric Bland for always sharing their hearts as well as facts to these cases. Just listened to the Stephen Smith update episode and bawled my eyes out with happiness and emotion for this story to finally be getting the attention it deserves. God bless y’all in what you do! Thank you for bringing these stories and truth to light!

6. Calm down - I got pretty far in this pod cast, but I had to stop. THE BRAGGING… oooff, get over yourself! You don’t own the story, you’re not the only one covering it, you’re not even a native to the area, no one is out to get you, & stop using your dog to get people to send you money. Do I think Alex did it, oh yeah! But the show is VERY bias… lots of hosts opinion and personal feelings, please just give us the story. Lots of cringy moments.
Mandy, if you’re reading this, I hope you take the reviews like this as constructive criticism to better your content.

7. Give it a chance - OK so my original review of this podcast was that the vocal fry was unbearable. I stuck it out and I’m glad that I did because the host absolutely did some work in that department. It’s so much better now. The podcast has a ton of information and she is very thorough. I will say that I usually skip the first three and last five or so minutes as it’s usually a lot of unnecessary pontificating.
2023-03-21
8. This Is No Longer Journalism - I like the podcast, but I am starting to question some of the unnecessary comments. Journalism, by its very nature, is supposed to be unbiased. There are comments throughout that are based in opinion and not in fact, or factual but surrounded by the opinions of the podcasters. Vocal quality is important. I don’t like the chastising that occurs at the conclusion of every episode about “vocal fry” and the demand for five star reviews. Stick to the unbiased facts, otherwise this isn’t journalism. Its just entertainment masquerading as journalism. Don’t lecture, don’t beg. Report the facts!

1. A Staple in My Rotation - While I agree with other reviews that it has gone downhill slightly since creating the podcast network, this is still a strong staple in my podcast rotation and remains one of my favorites! Love the ladies and the topics they talk about, and thank you to Georgia and Karen for always talking about the most important issues we are all facing today. They are true advocates for marginalized groups and I will continue to support them!

2. What a Great Time - I just started listening and had a great time. I could not stop laughing at the jelly bear and banana slicer post. My coworkers thought I was crazy. Unfortunately, I could not play it out loud but I did turn the coworkers onto podcast. I also read your book, will be passing it on to my granddaughters. I want my granddaughters to Stay Sexy and Not Be Murdered.

3. Bravo for Karen and Georgia!!! - Not only have I been a regular listener of your podcast for years, but I really admire both of you for vocalizing your beliefs! You don’t just provide us with amazing podcasts, but you stand up for beliefs which protect, encourage and support basic principles of human rights. Most recently your support of a woman’s right to make decisions about abortion! I’m almost yrs old, and for years I have fought for equal rights for women and against racism! Thank you!!!

4. Used to love it, kinda sorta sticking around - Meh, seems like they made it and now are on the train of managing their podcast network which yay for them but the podcast has taken a backseat. Each episode seems like an afterthought instead of their priority now. I still listen sometimes, but the first few years were the best. It’s akin to watching college sports vs pros. College athletes have major passion and guts, then they get to the pros and phone it in. Karen is so smart, quick witted and always has an interesting take. Georgia is sweet and reflective. That keeps me listening.

5. the best - these women are my actual best friends. hilarious, relatable, humble, considerate, & thoughtful are just a few of the many positive remarks I could make on their characters. so grateful to have them share such a sensitive topic in such an entertaining way that considers the impacts on the victims. nobody’s perfect, but they sure are trying their best which we can all relate to! this podcast is the best part of my week!
2023-03-21
6. Used to love you both. - Karen, you know the Bible so well and it’s quite impressive. Georgia, you’ve become completely intolerable to listen to. We all have different views about our faith, or in your case the lack of faith in God, and I’ve tolerated it. I can’t anymore with the way you trash God. When did a murder podcast become about bashing the other side of the aisle?? My friends and I are done with Georgia. Karen, you’ll be missed!

7. Feminism, Right? - If you are a female criminal, then this is the podcast for you. Women are praised for committing crimes, but men are deemed evil and crazy. So if you committed a crime and are female in the ’s, ’s, or -’s this is the right duo for you! Don’t be a man, or identify as one, if you want these two knuckleheads to sing your amazing praises!

8. Trying to Stick Around - Update: I stuck it out this long, but just stopped partway thru today’s minisode after open hostility toward the word Christian. You have many Christian listeners who love you- and this really sucked to hear. We’re not all as terrible and awful as you seem to think. I’m really gonna miss listening, but I can’t keep ignoring this. Few podcasts have made me laugh as much as this one- I LOVE your dry wit and conversational skill. Thoroughly appreciate everything about this, though I’ve simply shelved some differing politics opinions. I don’t mind disagreeing with people- I just listen here for entertainment anyway. But lately, we’re all getting it from all sides and your podcast is not an escape anymore. It’s almost felt as if you’re pushing those with differing beliefs away, and don’t want us enjoying your jokes and storytelling if we disagree with your politics or views on covid. This is simply my feedback- If you want to run a true crime podcast with the amount of politics it currently contains, then that is your right to do so. But people like me might have to (very sadly) unsubscribe.

Cold is a narrative podcast series focused on missing persons cases. Investigative journalist and host Dave Cawley takes on a single story with each season. Season 3: The Search for Sheree follows two suspects in the 1985 disappearance of Sheree Warren while examining the dangerous escalation of domestic abuse and sexual violence. The Cold team seeks to answer the question: what really happened to Sheree Warren? Season 2: Justice for Joyce Yost delves into the details of a murder-for-hire plot a...

1. ‘Cold’ is a Powerful Must-Listen Because of Dave Cawley - I’ve been listening since season and Dave Cawley handles each case with such compassion. Apart from his clear investigative journalistic skill, he’s also an excellent storyteller and host; he is an absolute delight to listen to (in spite of the subject matter). I also appreciate the attention to detail given to every case as well as this podcast’s clear mission to do something for each victim. Each of these women were more than just their murders and I think Dave Cawley does an exquisite job of telling their stories and honoring their lives, and I do hope each season makes a difference in every case. Bravo, sir.

2. Very well done! - I am really really hooked on this podcast… You do an incredible job of making it interesting and providing so much information about this horrific crime. I love all of the neighbors' and the detectives' and the personal interviews… It really adds to the understanding of how this thing was building for so long. I really hope that this podcast will help others who are suffering from domestic violence to see the early warning signs and seek help.
2023-03-12
3. A Must Listen - I am so impressed with this podcast- respectful, professional and clearly well researched. The host is excellent at weaving the narrative into a cohesive story that allows listeners to gain a sense of empathy for the victims that in my opinion, many other true crime podcasts miss the mark on. Thank you for giving a voice to not just these particular individuals but their families, friends and in a sense all women who have been victims of this type of violence.

4. Outstanding - Just started listening to Cold, and I’m still only part-way through Season but had to take a break to write a review because this is such an outstanding series. Dave Cawley has such a natural voice for podcasts, which is a huge thing for me after listening to so many where the narrator artificially slows their speech and puts the emPHAsis on the wrong syLLAble. The use of recorded interviews alongside historical recordings makes such an impact, and the descriptive language helped bring me into the story as if it was happening real time. I think these sorts of stories are so important in that they teach us how to recognize domestic/relationship dynamics, how to identify moments when things could have gone differently (both for individuals and investigators), and how to have empathy for others. Thank you for the story and the journey, Dave & team — you’re the best!

5. Season - I just finished S…such a powerful story. I was familiar with the Susan Powell story prior to listening but I learned so much more I wasn’t aware of. Well told and incredibly done. Please seek help immediately if you are in danger in your relationship - If you see something, say something. You just might save a life.
2023-03-09
6. Unlistenable narrator - I don’t know what’s happened to the host but the over-enunciation in the second season is so extreme it’s absolutely unlistenable, I tried, a couple of times. It’s strange, incredibly unnatural and the worst part is that it’s constantly and intensely distracting. Season one was so good, why would you try to sound like my mom doing a speech-to-text? What an huge disservice to the research and effort put into this podcast. Please stop with this weird affect, speak normally, your podcasts are excellent otherwise.

7. After being a longtime fan, I’m out - I’m a capitalist so I get the want for subscribers. And you have the great quality. But in the end, it’s still a podcast I listen to in the car. Not a blockbuster movie. So the annoyance of letting me listen to episodes then blocking me out is too much. It’s like coaxing me into a movie theater. Letting me watch the first minutes of a movie. Then turning on the theater lights and asking for money to keep watching. Plus, I actually have Amazon music. But I don’t want the hassle of having to use another platform to listen. So I’m out. See you around Doctor Death, American History Tellers, Cold, etc. You will be missed, but also forgotten. Because other places have good enough podcasts without the frustration.
2023-03-06
8. Great storytelling! - This is a great podcast that fulfills my need of a season long mystery. The storytelling is great and the investigation is thorough. The host really cares about the story he is telling and it shows in his work and delivery. My only critique would be that sometimes it can be a little scattered but, that’s pretty easy to get over :) keep up the great work!

1. Mike does no wrong - As an avid listener of true crime and a long time listener of S&S, Mike consistently delivers the best formulated true crime episodes. The format of S&S has been my favorite for years, so I was unsure of this new podcast, however it still surpasses most true crime shows in quality. Love or hate the host, but you cannot deny the quality of his shows.

2. Great show!:) one suggestion… - Hey Mike and team, I have been listening to everything you put out since the beginning, I am only just starting episode two, but if you do wanna continue to market the show as true crime for bedtime, consider adding some background sounds to play during the show, things like light rain and/or thunder, ya know? There are some story channels on YouTube that do this and they are so great for a nap time listen lol. There is a background noise feature on iPhone, but not everyone knows that so maybe sprinkle some in yourselves. Alright, love the new show, thanks Mike!

3. Never ending talent - Sass-hole for life. Always excellent narrations, always detailed, always excellent music to go with the story. Although change is inevitable, I hope your narration style never changes! This is another lullaby podcast from this creator, couldn’t be more excited to see where it goes in the next decade!

4. Mike does it again - I am an avid listener. I’ve been on S&S since it came out and before that, Patreon. Sword and Scale is my favorite podcast and has been for or years. I don’t LOOVE Mike, I’m not a fan girl, but I do love his podcasts. This one is a fantastic, much-needed addition for people like me, who have listened to every S&S and Plus episode a few times, and consume podcasts as their preferred source of entertainment. Thanks Mike.

6. Love this - I’m already a huge fan of S&S and I’ve often wished that Mike would narrate stories without audio clips of other people. He has a gift for storytelling and I was so excited to hear about this podcast coming out. Absolutely love it! Thank you guys for all that you do to make these podcasts amazing

In December of 2002, NBC News producer Dan Slepian got a letter from a New York state prison. It was from a man serving 25 years to life for murder. And it ended with a desperate plea: look into my case. Jon-Adrian “JJ” Velazquez had been convicted of killing a retired New York City police officer, but he insisted he didn’t do it. Dan was skeptical. Prosecutors said five eyewitnesses had sworn JJ was the killer. Could five people be wrong? So Dan began to dig. What he discovered went far...

1. Amazing story!! - This podcast is beyond fascinating! JJ is truly an amazing person. How he perseveres through a completely broken system that doesn’t seem to know how to ask the most basic questions is a testament to his character. This story brings you to tears over and over as Dan guides you through the case and the roadblocks JJ faces.
2023-03-23
2. Excellent and Heartbreaking - I have so much respect for Dan as a human being and a journalist. He listens, takes every detail into consideration and investigates with excellent skill, tenacity and honesty. He is passionate when it comes to seeking justice and it’s clear he is willing to fight every battle along the way. The compassion and heart that comes through his voice when he describes and talks about JJ is beautiful and heartbreaking all in one. JJ is such a strong human being with a hope so beautiful and strong. My heart breaks breaks for him and the horrific situation he is in. His mom and children are also being destroyed by this terrible situation, such a tragedy in itself.
It scares me deeply to know I live in a country with this type of justice system. It’s like trying to knock down an iron wall with your fist. A lot of pain, endless and you just never know when or how it will end. You never know what life brings, I certainly hope I never have to experience my life or my loved ones lives being held in the hands of the justice system I hear on this podcast. I pray for JJ and hope he gets the justice he deserves. And he gets to walk as a free man, proven innocent.
2023-03-23
3. A sad Realization our system is broken - This podcast has had me intrigued from the moment I found it. Well written, sad to say the least, and shocking that this poor man has lost his potential because of pure laziness and corrupt people “protecting” the people. This is sad but a true realization that he was wrongly convicted for a crime he wasn’t involved with. I want to hear a happy ending and that someone got sued for millions. Keep them coming!
2023-03-21
4. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING - This is a spectacular podcast. It should literally scare the crap out of you how frequently people are wrongfully convicted and more so that those who have the power or ability to fix it just do not care. They got their win and that’s all they care about. To listen to John Adrian Velasquez and his family is heart wrenching. His story, like so many others, should anger you.
2023-03-21
5. Amazing and heartbreaking - The story is told in such a way that you feel the emotions of everyone involved. Dan is an amazing investigative journalist and tells this story in such an amazing way. It’s maddening listing to the injustice JJ has endured and I pray that he gets the justice he deserves. As I listen I can’t believe how much time goes by and no one will do anything to release him. Our justice system is broken and they don’t care that the person on trial is a human being and if they are actually guilty they just care that SOMEONE takes the blame even if it’s allowing the actual murderer walk free while an innocent man’s life is taken away by putting him in prison. The DA and detectives don’t care about the truth. And this is only ONE story of ONE man’s life. Imagine how many others there are. Truly heartbreaking
2023-03-21
6. Amazing Podcast! - This has been a wonderful story. I can’t wait for the next episode each week! JJ is so inspiring and Dan you are such a great person! I have been in tears several times while listening especially when Dan was talking to JJ’s son Jon in episode . It was so touching and your words were Amazing! Love this so much!
Thanks!
2023-03-21
7. Exceptional! - The mishandling of this case is deeply disturbing. John Adrian’s resilience and Dan’s commitment are nothing short of inspiring, and the podcast is so well done. I’ve looked forward to Mondays for each new chapter. Thank you for bringing this important story to light in such a compelling and engaging way. It makes me wonder (with sadness) how many others are in a similar plight.
2023-03-20
8. Heartbreaking Story of Injustice - The journalism in this story excellent, and I want to hear every detail. This is the second podcast series I’ve listened to about wrongful convictions. I feel grateful for efforts like this, but the more I know, the more cynical I feel. Justice for all is a myth. Listen to this podcast. You’ll be glad you did.

1. Re: Point Blank about Gage & his club feet - I was born in the Sacramento (Calif) area in the early s (I was number of children) with TWO club feet. Casts were immediately placed on my feet (I still have a pair that my parents saved for me); I don’t know how frequently they were replaced or how long I wore them. One of my sisters (she is years younger than me) was born with ONE club foot — she also wore a cast on that foot (I don’t know for how long), but I do remember her wearing a brace on that leg — when she may have been years old (?). Our parents were always concerned about our feet and saw to it that we wore “proper fitting” shoes (oxfords instead of the newly appearing canvas/tennis shoes of the early s). I never had any problems with my feet over the years—except having small feet (women’s size -/ or and finding age-appropriate shoes to fit me), but I am also a small person (’ ” and lbs). My younger sister ended up with one foot one full size larger than the other, and also had to wear special orthotics. I have rarely heard of anyone else being born with this same condition and that more recently surgeries were done in attempts to correct the condition. I was never teased/bullied about it except when in junior high school (th & th grades) my parents bought me black Hush Puppy shoes that looked like boy shoes (like wingtips without the wingtips) that I had to wear with dresses (girls were not allowed to wear pants at school/church at that time—the early s). I complained about the teasing to my parents but my father (raised during the Great Depression) told me his father bought him “patent leather” shoes which he had to wear about that same age of his life. I guess that was said to make me feel appreciative that I even had good structural support shoes—he never acknowledged that the teasing was good/bad for me. However, as an adult in my business employment, I always wore high heels (a couple of inches high) and never had feet problems. I don’t know that I can wear heels now being retired and wearing flat all-purpose shoes all of the time.

2. Point Blank - The new series is wonderfully done. I’ve not listened to this podcast before but am glad I’ve found it. Thank you for bringing light to the tragic massacre in California. Thank you Troy McFadyen for telling your story. You are such a strong, honorable man with a such heart. And also, you have a wonderful storytelling voice and would love to hear more of your story. My heart breaks for Gage and his grandmother. Thank you for sharing and being such a strong, loving person for Gage. I hope to hear Gage finishes school and continues to heal. My heart truly goes out to you all.

3. So good! Just listen and you’ll be hooked. - This has to be one of the best podcasts out there. It never ceases to be interesting! I love that we get to here the stories from the people who lived it. Everyone has a story and this podcast is giving a voice to the everyday person to tell theirs. Just love it!
2023-03-21
4. Usually pretty interesting - Most of the stories are interesting, but I think a requirement to be on the podcast is upspeak and vocal frye. I cannot even finish some of the stories because of the upspeak. I know these people arent professionals, but JFC it is intolerable! Also, you can usually skip the first minutes because they go into every detail of their upbringing, their parents' and grandparents' upbringing, the history of the town, and etc...

5. The long shadow - I have been listening to this podcast for a long time now lately I’ve been going back to play episodes I haven’t listen to yet. I came across the four part year anniversary special edition, the Long shadow about the year anniversary of . My Husband is a fire fighter in the Chicago suburbs. We have visited New York and seen the memorial for the trade center multiple times, but listening to this series of first hand accounts from all spectrums of this event really opens your eyes and you can almost feel the fear and hurt and panic from all these survivors. Thank you so much for the series. I am a forever fan.
2023-03-15
6. Not for me - I’ve tried to listen to this podcast several times, but for me, the stream-of-conciousness story is just unbearable. It wouldn’t be so terrible to listen to some of these people if they were being interviewed and we could hear the questions, but I can’t listen to an hour of someone’s valley girl vocal fry or opinions on their situation. It just does nothing for me.
2023-03-14
7. Some Hot, Some Not - Some of the stories I like such as the one about the woman who was followed into her house by a sexual predator. It was well written for listening to. Other stories are wacky. The one about the “other woman” was absurd. Recognizing some people cheat on one another frequently did not make me sympathetic in any way to this woman. She knew better from the beginning and didn’t listen to herself. And then she wanted to talk about karma. That’s even crazier. Bad things happen every minute of the day. She needs help for how she runs her life.

8. Episode - It’s NOT YOUR FAULT - Thank You! I LOVE THIS PODCAST!! I really want to write this to the victim. Please send this to HIM!!! I listened to this episode recently and I just can’t get it off my mind. Please please please consider reporting the horrible person who started abusing you when you were . I know you said, some of your family and friends support her and still involve her in their lives. You realize she is tricking them like she did You?
You deserve to have Validation!!! So you need to report her to the D.A., find a good P.I. I promise you she is still doing horrible things to children. She didn’t suddenly change. Know this. You said you didn’t want to report her because she has kids now and you don’t want to hurt her kids. My friend, listen to me. She is abusing her own kids and their friends. Please do what is best for you and all of the kids around her. She’s still doing the same thing now that she did to you.

1. Realistic Show About Different Forms of Abuse - I made the mistake of scrolling through some of these reviews and it’s pretty interesting to see people having a hard time accepting that some people endure abuse in these situations. I don’t know what they expect but more likely than not these stories don’t end in someone walking away with their lives so it is amazing to hear some of these stories from the survivors pov. If anything I’ve noticed the pattern of negligence and trauma by law enforcement & defense lawyers in each case which should cause more outrage by people who are upset about someone staying with their abuser. Often they stay because they don’t feel protected by the police let alone laws that protect abusers. Thank you for this podcast! I’m not a crime podcast listener but I recognize the courage behind telling these stories.
2023-03-24
2. Sadly unsubscribing - Season has been a breaking point for me. I’d never heard to Lex before today, but so much of her story is not truthful. Choosing someone with actual trolls and a truthful account would have been more beneficial. Glossing over her trump support and the lies in this story is irresponsible TR. I wish all well, but I can no longer listen.
2023-03-24
3. Season - Very mind blowing story of what evil people can do to someone’s mind. People can wear faces and no-one knows until the bottom drops out, and their true identity is known.. The Bishop family , and their friend circle manipulated by “Evil Patty -not to mention all the peoples lives that were effected during that terrible life experience, made me sick to my stomach to hear people can be that destructive and ruin good peoples lives , just because they can .

4. Lex - I truly love this podcast. I really do. But I can’t sit back and not say anything. Lex Fitzgerald is an objectively terrible person. Tiffany did you even do any research? This woman and her husband are extremely racist disgusting people and should not be given a platform. I mean did you really not see any of their posts about George Floyd? About COVID? I would really recommend removing her episodes if you want to save the integrity of this podcast. I’m going to find it very hard to continue to have sympathy for future subjects knowing that you let this vile woman on. Do better.

5. Something was wrong !?! - This is such a lame season. ()There are so many men in this world just like this guy. What is it about him that makes these women keep going back for more??? Just say no girls! He isn’t even good looking and his personality is gross. You all needed to go to therapy if you couldn’t get past him on date ONE.

6. thanks for what you do tiffany - this is my absolute favorite podcast ever!! i pay for a wondery subscription specifically so i can listed to the newest episodes asap. if you are working on processing trauma/abuse listen with care, but i suggest you listen because it can be so empowering hearing that others have similar experiences and have come out stronger on the other side!!

7. Great Job! - Love all the stories! It’s crazy to think these situations really happen! I salute these people for sharing and putting it all out there! That can be tough especially with all the trauma they’ve experienced. So brave and to still be selfless in hopes their story will help someone else in the process.

8. Ooof - TR, I truly love your show. I love that you use your platform for major social issues however, you may want to consider vetting your guests a little more…. The most current guest supports a lot of questionable issues that completely goes against what your podcast has stood for. I did some of my own digging and it didn’t take long to figure out that there is another sad side to this YouTube family… keep up the great work, just get guests better!!

1. Good show with too many ad breaks - This would be a five star show, but the ad breaks are annoying. They’re not overly long, but far too frequent for such short episodes. Just when I’m starting to get immersed into the show, boom, another ad break. I’d much rather just have all the ads at once in the beginning, middle, or end.

2. Found my perfect podcast - I freaking love this show. It’s a great blend of history, true crime, environmentalism, adventure, and a bit of humor, and the hosts tell the stories in an engaging & insightful way. They’re close friends with shared interests they’re excited to talk about, so if you’re mad about all the “banter,” I’d find a different podcast. Personally, I love all their conversations, but that’s probably because I genuinely want to be friends with Cassie and Danielle. Also, I’d love to have a podcast like this with my best friend, it seems like a blast. Anyway, keep up the amazing work, ladies! Hope to see you at a live show soon

3. Interesting - I’ve been listening to your show for a few weeks, and have loved it. Yesterday it broke my heart to hear about your loss of Ian. I cried when you did the night of the grizzly story and the loss of both young women, human beings who suffered immensely to habituated bears. Today I learned we were in The same room in “creepy”, truth or consequences NM for mexican wolf NEPA meetings. As an impacted rancher it was a surprise to me that i was in the same room for completely opposite reasons. Our small rural communities have very little representation on these issues and now that the usfws are feeding every den for six months andthen allowing the wolves to kill our cattle without mitigation, I find itoff-putting that people understand the habituation issue but if it ishappening deliberately by agency personnel causing horrible problems for others, they are still ok with it. I guess the ends justifies the means.

4. Disappointing - This is one of my FAVORITE podcasts as we are avid NP travelers and true crime is my passion! Unfortunately, I listen either while at work or before going to sleep so often episodes play through completely or even start while I sleep. Once an episode has started, it won’t allow me to play them a second time , so I miss many.

5. Soooo like … - So I like really like wanted to like totally love this.. but I’m totally feeling like it’s just maybe not like totally for everyone… but like the tangents are like totally nails on like a total like chalk board… seriously tho it’s like listening to your teenage daughter reading out loud someone else’s story .. feels more like audio book with irritating nonsense shoved in every couple of min.. who knows it may get better …

6. Love the Variety! - This podcast has quickly become my favorite. I love the variety of episodes, stories about murder mysteries, surviving the elements, animal attacks, ghosts, missing persons and all other morbid things associated with national parks and wild lands around the world. If that’s your thing you’ll love this podcast!

7. Podcast why I gave you a - I am very new to podcasts, and I have had my iPhone since the was brand new - it’s fully paid for and I’m still learning things it does. One thing I learned is that just about EVERYTHING is billable and you don’t always know anyway - so this is the second one I’ve listened to. What I missed are visuals and voice interactions. This may be a great tool/medium for some people but not for me!
2023-02-16
8. Quite obsessed - I am nee to podcasts and after trying many shows out all across the board, Danielle and Cassie have taken a permanent spot in my ears! The stories are perfectly thought out, educational and truly paint an image in your head. I feel as i am right there in the park watching what is going on. I love their level of reactions and commentary, which allows for the story to be focused on and maintains engagement. Considering joining the Patreon as i am getting through the episodes too fast! Thank you for a great show ladies!

Criminal is the first of its kind. A show about people who’ve done wrong, been wronged, or gotten caught somewhere in the middle. Hosted by Phoebe Judge. Part of the Vox Media Podcast Network.

Comments
1. CRIMINAL puts me in my place… - When I’m immersed in a criminal story, while driving down the road to the grocery store, or to work, or cutting the grass or washing the dishes, or picking up the kids, criminal reminds me that their are thousands upon thousands of other lives going through other situation’s telling other stories, and that I am but one among many and that my problems are but small ones.
2023-03-22
2. Top Tier - I discovered Criminal a few years ago and it’s remained in the top tier of my favorite podcasts ever since. Every episode is thoughtfully put together, with a dose of true-crime that often expands into investigating questions about how crime is defined and the ways that people are affected by it. Love it!
2023-03-21
3. Their agenda is Criminal - I have been a subscriber of this podcast for a long time but am unsubscribing today. They’ve veered from unbiased, deep-probing to agenda-driven podcast. This isn’t the podcast it once was and that’s a shame. If I want my news fed to me with liberal doses of bias and agenda, I’ll watch mainstream media. Criminal has joined their leagues. Disappointing. Recently, Phoebe profiled a self-confessed and convicted bank robber who escaped from prison, feloniously forged a birth certificate and Social Security card, and bribed a DMV employee to get a fake drivers license. He created a new identity and lived freely for almost years. The show seemed to glorify this criminal and give him a free pass because he was a “good father and good husband.” The “rehabilitated” convict laughed and did not voice remorse, but they still glorified him in the episode. I see nothing charming, funny, or worthy of glorification in this story. And this is not the only story I have heard on CRIMINAL depicting criminals as martyrs or heroes. Am I wrong for not admiring or rallying behind this man, a liar and thief who committed multiple crimes but got a free pass because he went on to be a good father and husband? Shouldn’t he have been a good father and husband regardless? And does that minimum standard really exonerate one from crimes committed? I don’t think so. The anti-police rhetoric is as annoying as Phoebe’s breathy enunciation.

4. Favorite podcast! - I’ve been listening to Criminal for a few years and I love it. Most true crime is about murder and involves hosts talking to one-another. That can be boring and depressing. Criminal is different. It looks at the stories behind crime and interviews someone who has a connection to it. It’s clear how much research goes into each episode. Also, can we talk about Phoebe’s voice? The absolute best on the air. You guys brighten my days-thanks!

5. No personal crimes - I typically listen to Criminal, because it is free from domestic violence, sexual assault, and those types of podcasts. I was a little disappointed that criminal reported a story like this, but ultimately, after listening to it I am completely and utterly speechless and happy that I listen to it. It’s an incredible story. Keep up the good work.

6. Where are the music credits? - I love this podcast. It’s a fantastic show. Everything you’ve put into it is first rate. Im sure the drawings are spectacular as well. But they don’t enhance the quality for me on this end. The music on the other hand is very important. Your selections are on point. How come you never give credit to the composers and producers? Please keep up the phenomenal work of producing this show. Thank you.

7. Fantastic - I am entranced. I enjoy the history and storytelling. I love Phoebe Judge’s pleasant, non-confrontational presentation style. I recently listened to the episode describing the clerical consultation service. OMG, I had know idea. Being a non religious person this has truly opened my eyes to the fact that there are many in the religious community that really care about peoples suffering and will risk all to take a stand. Their endeavors are worthy of honor and respect. Thank you for highlighting this hidden history, it has truly changed my view on the clergy and their role in American society.
2023-03-09
8. Thought provoking - Criminal is a great true crime podcast and at the same time it’s so much more than just true crime because episodes tackle important topical issues in the legal system and social justice. I truly appreciate the fact that I’m not just listening to a whodunnit, rather I’m learning about important social issues while listening to true events. Thank you for this great podcast.

Deep Cover is a show about people who lead double lives. Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Jake Halpern reveals webs of deception and dark underworlds, through interviews with federal agents and convicted criminals. Season three, Never Seen Again, tells the story of two women, living on opposite sides of the country, who went missing in the summer of 1999. Seven years later, their stories collided when a small town detective got a tip and became convinced that if he could solve one mystery,...

1. Pretty good listen - Two thoughts: . Wondering if there is a connection between Shine and Alex Murdaugh down in that low country. He owned all of those odd little bits of coastal property… . It’s “BYOOfurt” SC, not “BOEfort.” It kind of bugs me when journalists don’t bother to check how to pronounce names of persons or places.

2. Didn't want to join the chorus of critics, but... - I liked and - I loved Bob Cooley story, despite his faults. Really worth your time to listen to season and - so stars! As to , well this one intrigued me at first but I really thought you were heading towards something with Esther and Brooke, and the spy business, only to find that you really were just telling the story of Esther, a con woman who was clearly using life challenges to cover for crime. Am I wrong or didn't episode really imply you had more on Brooke? Oh well.
2023-03-16
3. Esther is a con woman - Esther should not be celebrated nor have so much of this this podcast devoted to her story. She is a scammer and a thief - who had no problem stealing from her family. There should have been more attention paid to Brooke, the true victim. Also the cop that still thinks Esther was a spy despite all the evidence showing she’s just a scam artist explains why so many cases go unsolved.
2023-03-14
4. Confused by season - Season & were really thoughtful and well crafted stories. The third is a head scratcher. Instead of focusing on Brooke’s story - which deserves a full investigative podcast - it follows a woman who has flimsy reasons at best for causing mayhem and harm in peoples lives. Your time would have been better spent on Brooke.
2023-03-12
5. Skeptical Much? - Really like this podcast! However, it amazes me how you are skeptical of almost everything you are told. How do you second guess the accounts of the people who have the life story you are reporting on especially when it seems you have no similar background experience to weigh the validity of it.
2023-03-10
6. Great first two seasons. S gets complicated in a frustrating way. - The first two seasons (covering the war on drugs and corrupt Chicago politics) are great listens. Intricate sociopolitical ecosystems filled with colorful and complicated characters. The third season, however, lacks the same sort of nuance and instead turns into a puff piece that glorifies a con woman. Like many "missing girl" podcasts, they never find the missing girl. Instead we get a portrait of the woman who stolenumerous identities, committed fraud, then fled from the FBI. The story itself is rich. The final episode, howver, then turns her into a saint. "Undiagnosed anxiety disorder" gets the blame for most of her problems, along with a "toxic" family life. The season ends with Esther delivering her own TED talk, exonerating herself, blaming the criminal justice system, insisting that the word "rehabilitation" is problematic, then announcing that she is reclaiming her identity. There is a version of this podcast that pushed back against Esther's version of the story, rather than let her drive the narrative. I found myself yelling at the radio towards the end, which is either the sign of a provocative podcast or a poorly reported story.
2023-03-07
7. Good storytelling, too bad focus is on jerks - Jake is a great host and storyteller and obviously dug deep to share compelling interviews and interesting details. It’s just annoying to me that Bob Cooley, totally lacking self awareness and egotistical contradictory self-martyr gets so space to tell his story when there are so many more interesting people and perspectives. Another chance for a clueless guy to fail up in the history books.
2023-03-06
8. st and nd Great. rd not so much - First season was great telling of the American backstory to Noriega’s downfall w strangely patronizing portrait of main protagonist despite his amazing work. Second season also amazing. Third season jumps the shark with a bizarre fascination with a con artist sobstory. Sad that Esther’s dad was a total ahole but clearly she is too.

1. Get to the point - episodes deep and not sure what the point of this series is. If a shoddy investigation and “false” confession is all we hear as to whether Jason is innocent, sorry not good enough. If Jason wants to be mad at someone it should be his moron parents. Bad investigation or not still seems like they got the right person. If not you should get there within the first eps.

2. Back for more! - I listened to season ravenously when it came out. and while I wait for new episodes of season (good so far) I went back and listened again. Enough time has passed that it almost felt like the first time around. Beautifully told with sensitivity and great research. Looking forward to the rest of S, although it’s quite a different kind of story!
2023-03-11
3. RIVETING - I just love lengthy stories. This is definitely one of my favorites. Started listening and couldn’t stop. Hours of wonderfully told episodes!! It’s worth a nd (and rd) listen!! The parts concerning DNA are amazing science. That’s how they found the Golden State Killer which took place in the same county as this. Maricopa County. Great work!

4. Favorite podcast - As weird as it sounds, this is my comfort podcast. I must have listened to it ten times, but I keep coming back. The way the story is presented is top notch and I really appreciate the respect that is given to the victims, their families, and their stories. So much of true crime is exploitative and made for shock value but this podcast is both respectful and interesting.
2022-11-27
5. Excellent podcast! - This is honestly one of the best true crime podcasts I have ever listened to. The reporting is top notch, transitions and editing are fantastic, and the writing is straightforward, not repetitive, and carries the story along well. Interviews are great and the podcast lacks the sensationalism that many true crime podcasts are guilty of.
2022-11-13
6. Harrowing but gripping! - Disclaimer: I went into this with zero knowledge of the case or its revelations. I binged the whole thing in one setting. I exclaimed aloud a few times at some information or twist. The tale kept building and spinning! And I don’t want to give anything away but I was so impressed by a few dogged investigators working from different angles of this case. It seemed a little meandering at moments but the way their data came together is super satisfying. It’s a heartbreaking case that was carefully examined and reported in this story.
2022-06-22
7. RIVETING - Jason Moon is absolutely the best at telling this tale of horror. His voice kept me calm (somewhat). He made me feel he was % invested in helping get the answers and putting these wonderful people together to solve the murders. It is THE best podcast I’ve ever listened to (also the saddest). Thank you, Jason Moon and to all of the folks who gave their time, knowledge and persistence.

1. Getting annoyed of repeats - I was happy to find a podcast with episodes going back to because I go through podcasts so fast but all you guys do is repeat episodes. There are no new ones every year. Getting really tired of getting ready to start a podcast episode and it’s one I heard two weeks ago from the year prior. So annoying. Makes me not want to listen anymore
2023-03-20
2. No one in charge reads these! - How many people have complained about the deafening ad volume but yet no one at hours reads these reviews apparently. I can’t listen because of this and apparently I’m not the only one. I complained years ago and it’s still not fixed. Or they do it on purpose and don’t care.
2023-03-20
3. Background Music - I won’t listen to anything with background music trying to out-volume the dialog. It’s just plain irritating and it interferes with thinking about what I’m listening (trying to) to, and the tone of it is trying to direct my emotions and thought directions. Can’t we just have clean sound?
2023-02-13
4. Please do something about the loud obnoxious sounds - What is it with the new flapping sounds in the background? This podcast has always been hard to listen to with the terrible sounds but It’s like you’re trying to annoy us by adding even more screechy sounds, when all we want to do is listen to the podcast. Seriously.
2023-02-13
5. Not adapted for podcasting - Great stories, but these episodes haven’t been adapted at all from the original tv/visual medium to a podcast medium, which makes them frustrating to listen to. Also, the hosts (mainly Erin) seem ask the most banal questions during interviews. When speaking to someone whose family member was murdered…”do you miss them?” Girrrrrl.
2023-02-05
6. What a shame - Shame on you, CBS. This show has inexcusably bad audio. Worse than terrible. Obviously, no one QC’s these before they’re posted. I’d like to enjoy the story, but the background music is often louder than the people speaking. Or the volumes of different people speaking vary wildly. This is too high-dollar an operation to put out such a poor quality product. Booooooo
2023-02-02
7. TOO LOUD commercials. - Great stories, as usual with hours. But DAM those sound effects, music accents and commercial ads…. TOO DANG LOUD. PLEASE TURN IT DOWN. And all them (loud) background music is really unnecessary. Very annoying and distracting. I actually don’t listen to the hrs unless I’m all out of new dateline (and other true crime) podcasts. There is no need for the above to be so loud. It is so off putting. Please please correct this! I will be much more apt to listen!
2023-01-26
8. Annoying audio - The audio overall is low compared to ads or other podcasts, but what is really annoying is how low the sound bites are compared to the background music. You can barely hear what someone is saying when there is music in the background. The mix is awful or they are outputting the file wrong.

1. More about the “Humor” than the topic - I’m giving this a star because when I listen to paranormal podcasts, I want to hear about the topic. If you’re looking for a podcast where they shout, laugh, make flat jokes and otherwise act like drunk juveniles while using paranormal topics as a springboard to dive into all this “humorous” behavior then this is your show. If you’re even just looking for paranormal topics discussed in a light and easy fashion, I would not recommend this podcast because the “humor” takes such precedence that it becomes unbearable unless you’re there for it.
2023-03-24
2. So much unrealized potential - The variety of topics and depth of knowledge that this podcast has should make it one my favorites. Unfortunately, the constant interruptions, mindless yelling, and terrible attempts at jokes ruin an otherwise enjoyable show. Comedy is difficult to do well, and this podcast is a great example of what happens when humorless bros who think they’re funny try to land jokes at inopportune times.
2023-03-15
3. One of my faves! - I came for the cult episodes and stayed for the aliens, cryptids and serial killers. I love all the hosts for what they bring - Marcus’ research is stellar and Henry and Ben make me laugh. One of the only podcasts that I’ll re-listen to. Their style isn’t for everyone though, so if you don’t like it, there are tons of other True Crime podcasts to check out…
2023-03-14
4. Titters over time - There’s nothing in the world like learning something while you’re laughing so hard the tears are streaming down your face. People think that you’re having a nervous break down but it’s really the time of your life. Listening to these three insane geniuses recount sections of history in a way that holds my attention like Tituba holds to the story she was coached to tell by Reverend Parris provides me with hours of the greatest entertainment these ears have ever heard.
2023-03-12
5. True Crime GOATs - If you love true crime, but want to be able to listen to a true crime podcast without feeling like you need to take a shower and call your mom to tell her you love her when you’re done, then this is the podcast for you! It mixes well-researched, interesting stories with witty, goofy humor that makes it so easy to digest you can listen for hours.
2023-03-09
6. Informative but they try too hard to be funny. - I’ve tried a few times with this podcast. They do good research & have great topics but I can’t get past the failed attempt at comedy. It’s wedged in constantly & these are good guys but they’re just not comedians. I think they’d blow up even more if they just stuck to being informative. Comedy is hard. This shows that.
2023-03-07
7. Did Scientology hack you?? - I love y’all so much, have seen you live, all the love but the rd episode had the craziest editing ever. It replayed a bunch of parts and then skipped others completely so I didn’t get the full story! You know I love you, but I’m fearing for your safety at this point….
2023-03-04
8. An acquired taste. - When I first attempted to listen to LPOTL a handful of years back, their energy was WAYYYY too much for me. Henry did a guest spot last summer on a podcast I subscribe to & I suddenly made the connection that he was from Pretty Face - so I thought I’d give the guys another shot. So glad I did! Now it’s one of my comfort shows & I really care about these creeps. Great content & I really enjoy listening to their banter.
