1. Simply fantastic. Incredible fun with deep and interesting characters - Everything about this book is well-written. It’s a page turner with constant suspense, but accomplishes this without sacrificing the believability or depth of the characters. All six of the main characters are interesting and flawed, but all are lovable and relatable in their own ways. I also love how much this entry expands the world of the Grishaverse (though I rather dislike the term “Grishaverse”, haha; it sounds much sillier than the world of these stories ought to). The politics, belief systems, and conflicts among the different nations are evocative and intriguing.

2. Made Me Fall Back in Love with Reading - After a huge reading slump that lasted several years, I have finally picked up Six of Crows after hearing numerous people say that it was “one of the best YA novels of all time”. Needless to say, I was not disappointed in the slightest. This book has everything I love in a story: well-developed characters, an intriguing plot, page-turning action, etc. I was utterly breathless while reading it.

3. Ragtag team, heist of a lifetime, with magic! - I loved the Grishaverse trilogy so I was excited to keep going with this duology and I really enjoyed this first book. It may have even been better than the Shadowbone trilogy. There seemed to be a lot more action as the rag tag team from The Barrel takes on a heist of a lifetime. I especially enjoyed the multiple POV’s. It was nice to get in the mindset of each character. The multicast of narrators did a phenomenal job embracing the characters. My only wish was that the narration had been more conversational in that each character player their part no matter whose POV. But in the end it was still an enjoyable listen.

4. If every author could understand this - Many authors have great plots, great characters, or both. Ironically most do not excel at storytelling. Leigh does an excellent job of moving the story forward while dropping in a few details along the way to build depth and context. Too many authors don’t trust their audience to build an acceptable picture in their minds and feel compelled to bog down the action with pages and pages of description with a villain seconds behind the protagonist. Thank you, Leigh, for taking the risk that your story will survive without spelling out every detail. Your work is a pleasure to read.

5. Let’s see… - As I read the book I was never really able to get attached to the characters (I focus more on characters than plot). For example, if someone was in pain or having a hard time or just dying, I just found myself not really caring or feeling sympathy. When it comes to the plot I would say its really good. I like the magic system as well as the way everything unfolded. However the only problem (aside from the previous one) I had while reading the book was that I felt as If I was reading a movie instead of a book. It was very cinematic. It bothered me a lot cause it seemed as if Leigh was writing a script for a movie instead of narrating a story. It’s hard to explain but I came to the conclusion that because she writes in a cinematic way, it made it hard to sympathy and connect with the characters (especially Kaz. No matter how dark his childhood was, I could not find a lil bit of sympathy towards him. And there was also the age issue. It was hard to ignore the fact that the cast was i think about - years old). I’d say if her book is adapted into a movie I would really like it cause its my type of genre, but unfortunately I can’t say the same for the book. Im picky too, so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

6. Absolutely incredible - This book was captivating from beginning to end. Sure there was plenty of slow storyline parts but those all aid in you getting to know the characters and the Grishaverse better. My heart raced the entire time while reading and having it told from so many perspectives brings on a new and fun dynamic. The characters are well done and endearing. By the end of the book you feel like you went through what they went through and that you are somehow a part of the ragtag team itself. Great read and would recommend to anyone who loves stories of espionage, fantasy, and gritty violence. All in the same world as the Shadow and Bone series!!

7. Cinematic Story Telling - (While it’s Six of Crows is arguably much better written than Shadow and Bone; I do recommend that you read Shadow and Bone first because it helps with the world building and vocabulary of this story.) A tale of six emotionally scarred and traumatized teenagers…. sign me up. Six of Crows really is a well written book. I was captivated by the words on the page from start to finish. The characters in this story are a much needed breath of fresh air against ordinary character stereotypes that you see in most books. It has a kind of dark fantasy that you don’t often see in YA fiction. The banter between each character and the relationships that unfold between characters are incredibly well written. I laughed, I cried, and when I say that if I could go back and read Six of Crows again for the first time; I truly do mean it.

8. A-MUST-READ-ONCE-IN-YOUR-LIFETIME - DONT EVEN GET ME STARTED. This book showed up on my Tiktok. And boy am I so glad I read it. I’m not the hugest fan of fantasy, but this was absolutely gold. Each character is so perfectly developed. From Kaz’s admiration towards Inej, and his vengeful demeanor after what happened to his brother, it’s just too good. You’ll end up rooting for the Crows so hard that you’ll cry with them, laugh with them, and even smirk with them . It’s action-packed, and perfect for hopeless romantics. The highly descriptive wording is so beautiful. The author is incredibly gifted. I will say, the beginning will confuse you, but please do not stop reading because of it. It will make more sense as you go. Plus, it only gets better

9. Amazing - But everyone you need to read shadow and bone before you read this it makes this book and I’m reading crooked kingdom now and they mention lots of things from shadow and bone and if you read shadow and bone first you find out things that are very important to crooked kingdom if you insist you read six of crows first then read six of crows then shadow and bone trilogy and the crooked kingdom then the Nickolai books but that’s not the way you should it needs to be shadow and bone trilogy then six of crows and crooked kingdom then king of scars then rule of wolfs.

10. SO GOOD - I’m gonna be honest I did not think I would like it, but boy was a wrong. The world building is absolutely amazing. The background of all the characters is so well developed and thought out. Each chapter will leave you wanting more. This book had me SCREAMING (in a good way). The ending was just wow. Kaz Brekker supremacy.

11. Brilliant! - This is the best book series I’ve ever read. I couldn’t put down this book and ended up late to my classes, oh well. The characters are so diverse and well written that I fell in love with each individual. I also enjoyed that this book was fast paced. It was bit predictable, but the things that came to pass that I saw coming had huge twists. One hundred percent recommend, I just wish I could newly read this again!

1. Shadow chases Sun chases Shadow - What an interesting world Leigh has created. With the Grisha and the potential development of those who do not understand their own gifts. I look forward to reading the next stories in this trilogy. This story takes place in a land divided long before most of those who live. The land is has been at war the entire time, weakened by the split and poor leadership. Will the people pay any price to finally achieve peace and under a strong leader? The protagonist grows into a powerful but nieve young women over the course of this tale. The whinny female central character fortunately doesn’t last long. Some of the words in the story are hard to get around in English due to the Russian influence of military and noble titles. But these are minor bumps in a solidly constructed and vibrant story.

2. Kind of predictable but i enjoyed it - This was a good book. Similar to Red Queen but with its own personality. Some of the things that happened were definitely predictable and basic for YA fantasy. I felt the middle was rather repetitive and it took me a long time to finish. Otherwise it was very good

4. disappointed. - This book had so much potential, and i thought i'd like it at some point but i was unfortunately proven wrong. I feel like the character relationships could have been better formed, they felt so rushed, forced, and kind of thrown together. The story would slow down to tell us what was going on internally with Alina, but then as soon as she was interacting with someone else, things felt like they were moving WAY too fast (with the exception of a few scenes and her relationship with Genya). I usually like when books start to pick up speed, but this book just wasn't it for me. There was nothing really special about it, and it really didn't do anything for me. The plot was ok, but at the same time i feel like it was more a character driven book. Character driven books should have CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT & this one barely had any, the only thing that changed about Alina was her appearance. Her appearance changed for a significant reason, but i feel like internally, she would feel a certain way and then make impossible break throughs without developing much. I hope I like the nd book better, but i heard this book was the best in this specific trilogy....yikes.

5. I have a short attention span - I can see why Netflix is making a series. I have a really short attention span and no patience for underdeveloped characters or plot holes. So I usually end up putting down a book in a few hours of reading but not this one. Honestly the writing was really good. I had read the six of crows duo and really liked it. So I gave this a chance. Can I just say that a lot of the main female characters I read are not that developed but Alina was very developed. Her character was even likable. I love how her childhood was incorporated. And that chapter at the end when she saves her mans chefs kiss I was hoping that would happen. Very satisfying. Anyway, I’m about to go read the next one. We’ll see if I like all the twists :)) -G

6. Shadow and Bone - A solid read. I love Leigh Bardugo as person and as writer. Having read six of crows before this book I was little taken a back by the writing style you can definitely see a vast difference between shadow and bone and six of crows with her growth in a good writing. I loved the world but the main character had me wanting screaming at the page this is pretty generic plot with generic tropes but enjoyable all the same. Definitely a good read to get you out of a reading slump and great for beginner Fantasy readers!

7. Better Than I Thought - The Grisha series, while a bit formulaic, has some elements that made it much more entertaining that I expected. ) The world building and the magic system were well thought out. The culture was very prevalent and undoubtedly the best part.
) Alina was one of the more enjoyable MCs in YA. The other characters, however, were not very unique. I did enjoy the development of Alina and the Darkling, but not Mal.
) The plot was pretty standard, but I’m very intrigued by the ending and will continue to read on! Overall, highly and entertaining easy read, though not nearly as good as Six of Crows.

8. Ok but not amazing... - I read it and enjoyed it, but then I started to think about it and it was not that good. The story was interesting, but the author tried making it revolve around the romance, I like a good romance, but this was not that good of a romance. Since she failed the romance she kinda ruined the whole thing, because it was mostly focused on the romance. SPOILERS
Alina is all obsessed with Mal, and I’m like understandable (he was her friend, but her being in love was too classic), but she can have fun without him. Mal was not in love with her. Then, she is the sun summoner and here comes the darkling. He was mysterious and I knew they were going to fall in love. The problem was they barely had him or developed his character, so the love story was flat. Then here comes Mal, Alina is “betrayed” by darkling, and she suddenly is perfect with Mal... and I was quite disappointed with the love story. It was quite a lot like red queen, but the SPOILER FOR RED QUEEN Maven’s betrayal was a lot more dramatic and intense. END OF SPOILERS
So, it revolves around a flat love story... it would of been better if the focus was less on Alina and her crushes and more on the plot and storyline. But they should’ve developed the darkling more, he had a lot of potential that went kinda to waste.

9. About Half Of It Was Good - Overall, this was a good book. I can see why it’s popular and I can see why it’s getting its own Netflix series. That being said, despite the imaginative world, intriguing magic system, and historical setting, I can’t shake the feeling that this book is just like every other YA fantasy series. The protagonist seems strong because she’s in the military, but really she spends the entire book getting kidnapped, bossed around, and beaten up in training. The romance seems well developed but in reality Alina falls for an eternal psycho after speaking to him times (not to mention the fact that he ignored her and wasn’t even around for half the book. Real heart throb right there... rolls eyes) and then she leaves him (because his mama said to leave) for her sleezy best friend who NEVER liked her romantically until he got jealous. Being best friends since childhood is not an excuse for actual romantic development. Having a crush on a character is not romantic development. Yes, Alina always liked Mal but he literally just woke up one day and realized she wasn’t as ugly as he thought. The last thing that bothered me is that this book is genuinely JUST another YA trilogy. Like the Hunger Games, like Divergent, like Frostblood, like Red Queen, like the Cruel Prince (which I loved but still... it’s a trope). Shadow and Bone is just another YA series about a weak, ugly teenager with an attitude who becomes strong and beautiful, and then overthrows a corrupt leader while scoring the hottie of the cast. We have read this story again and again and again and for some reason it’s accepted like it’s really something new and amazing. Lastly... I know this story is supposed to take place in an old Russian setting (I think) BUT I found myself disappointed in the lack of diversity. SURE not many people of color lived in Russia during the era this is supposed to have taken place (and probably not many live there today) but I doubt many Darklings or Sun Summoners or other magical freaks lived there either. If we can picture pretty teenagers shooting light from their hands then I think we can picture brown people simply existing too. Like I said, this book was good overall but there are things I just couldn’t get over and enjoy. Maybe if you’re you’ll love this but I am well past that age therefore my enjoyment is limited haha

10. Nothing Special - The world that this book is set in is actually very interesting and complex. However, the protagonist is very bland. Not to mention a little dumb. She spends the first half of the book repressing herself (due to feelings stemming from a boy, how nice) and then when she finally lets go, she can’t even do anything useful. All of this build up for how she is going to save the world and she can what, make a bubble? Dispel some shadows? But really, my biggest problem with this book is that it’s nothing but her getting kidnapped. It’s dressed up as something new and exciting but make no mistake this is just another variant of a damsel in distress, only this time her exceedingly pretty yet boring boyfriend gets to share in on the victimization. This happens not once, not twice, but three times!! And each time she just gives in to the captors. Very frustrating—she does not even use the extensive and difficult fighting training she got from the little kingdom. I think that she was only given the training in the first place to appease the female readers who prefer a strong lead. In the end, cool world, cool mechanics, BAD characters.

11. A few cool concepts swimming in a sea of tired tropes - In which we spend / of a story contemplating beauty, the privileges it confers, sharp cheek bones, alabaster skin blah blah blah. Also a boy gets jealous. Oh and a boy overlooks the love of his life until said love undergoes complete transformation, a la that crappy ’s movie with Freddie Prince Junior that was so boring and bad I can’t be bothered to look it up. Also the mousy turned hot heroine is the chosen one (because apparently played out tropes are supposed to cancel each other out or maybe transcend themselves into originality?). Oh wait, I remember now: She’s All That, which was about as good as this novel.

1. A great escape - The balance between description and narrative is quite good. You’re able to I you’re the world Leigh has created without growing impatient for the story. Some threads are left unraveled but nothing too disappointing. A lovely moral at the end. A journey I was happy to take, sad to end, and warmed to reminisce.

2. Must-read fantasy - Enthralled from the first to the last chapter. The scenarios never took the predicted ending, but also did not take an undesirable ending. Kept me on my toes and intrigued, constantly wanting to know what happened next. The tv show was fairly congruent with the first book with a little spattering of the second and third book. I liked that they added a side story about the city folk (“The Crows”). Really gives a rounded contrast. All-in-all, I think Shadow and Bone in its entirety is a very well-written, fresh story.
2021-08-20
3. Predictable Story with Poor Development - Lack luster predictable story with poor character development. Found both Alina and Mal insufferable and could truly only stand reading this because of some of the side characters. Honestly would have been jumping for joy if both main characters died at the end, especially Mal. So much potential but a weak story overall that lacks development in both the world, backstory, and main characters.

4. Good! - I only started reading because i was told to read before six of crows. But, I just finished, and I read the whole thing in a week. The plot twists were fun and usually took me by complete surprise (beside the ones i accidentally spoiled for myself). First book was definitely the best of the trilogy. The second book moved very very fast in the beginning, but slowed down to a decent pace pretty soon. The ending was what I had expected, but I was definitely thrown off from it at times.

5. Cheater cheater - The first novella in this series is a fine story, but not worth the "novel price". They make it look longer by including half the next novella. But then the next novella is listed at over pages (ebook pages) and ends halfway through...... And adds on half the next novella. It is NOT worth the price of three honest novels. Don't be suckered.

1. Absolutely devoured this series - I’m just gonna say it, this duology is SO much better than the entire Grishaverse series!!! It was great to see the barrel rats show the bosses that you can’t keep’em down. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The pacing was smooth and the story was action packed. There was great banter between the characters and I enjoyed watching their relationships grow and their bonds strengthen. The multicast POV’s were great. It helped individualize each character and each narrator did a phenomenal job with their character.

2. Crooked Kingdom - CROOKED KINGDOM, the second book in the Six of Crows series, has more action than the first, but most of it is in the “you’ve got to be kidding me” arena. The first book was a travel adventure, while in this book the action all takes place around the city of Ketterdam. What is the focus of this book, amongst all the chasing and fighting? Our hard-as-a-nut to crack dear Kaz is out for revenge for the death of his brother. How is he going to achieve this? In the most convoluted ridiculous manner possible, where just about everything goes his way and ten (maybe) different scenarios have to go perfectly. Or else! Thankfully, I love this kind of reading once in awhile. Sex trafficking is bad, we know that. This topic comes up a lot here. Inej was a victim before joining Kaz’ teenage group of thieves and she wants to get out there and tear down that system. It would be great to follow her journey in future books. My reactions to this book are: • It was too long and had too many coincidences. • Some scenarios had no follow-up. Did I miss how Colm got out of the bakery?? He seemed to have just appeared in a later scene. • Even though there were plenty of eye-rolls, I enjoyed the story much more than SIX OF CROWS.

3. No Mourners, No Funerals - Crooked Kingdom was just as fantastic as SOC. It displays the development of the characters beautifully, and the heists remain as dangerous as ever. It’s been a pleasure to read about Kaz Brekker and his fantastic crew. I’m in awe of author Leigh Bardugo, whose writing seems to improve exponentially! She’s come a long way from Grisha, and managed to write a sequel as good as, or better than, her original masterpiece, and I’m so excited to read her future works. Definitely a new favorite author!

4. I didn’t think they got this good - This book is ideal for everyone who has eyes to read. I read lots of books, usually around three a week, and I’m only telling you this because out of all of those books, out of all the books I’ve ever read, this one is the best. Leigh Bardugo is one of the most gifted writers I’ve ever encountered. Usually, the sequel to a novel is mediocre, paling in comparison to the first. Bardugo, however, is most definitely one to perform miracles. Crooked Kingdom is arguably better than Six of Crows, but only arguably so because Six of Crows was just such a good read. The plot, the complexity of the characters, the smooth descriptions, and the fact that Bardugo never leaves anything out and will have you begging for more by the end is why I recommend this series to everyone I meet.

5. Amazing series! - This book was amazing! This was definitely a character driven book. We learned soooo much more about the characters that i didn't even realize i was missing. There were a lot of ups and downs that were great to read. I need more!! I really hope we get more books in this series with these characters. Great read

1. I’d say it’s a / - This book had its parts but overall it was slow and it dragged on and on over the same things. Honestly it felt like I was waiting for something exciting and it just didn’t come which was disappointing. Mal bothered me and so did Alina whining about him constantly. It took me a long time to get through. However, I loved Toyla and Tamar as well as david and Nikolai. They are great characters and I hope to see more of them in the next book!

2. AMAZING - So I thought the first book was your typical fantasy novel ext. Boy was I wrong, this book was perfect. All of the characters were interesting and important. The plot was perfect. My only criticism is Mal. He is such a baby in this book but just know he gets better . Read READ READ READ. PLEASE.

3. Overall a great follow up from the first book! - Overall a great follow up from the first book! Things progress a little slower in this one but I still enjoyed it. Lauren Fortgang does an amazing job with the narration. She’s quickly becoming a favorite. I love the way she embraces each character and breathes life into them.

4. Alright read. Didn’t enjoy the end - I thought it was a decent book. Would have enjoyed more world building around the Capital and Alina in charge, but it’s whatever. I thought the end was a little unsatisfying but that is personal taste. Overall enjoyed this book worth the price and a quick read.

5. this one the first one - I honestly REALLY loved this book. LIKE SO MUCH, the character development, although long overdue, from the protagonist was chefs kisses. There were so many more characters in this book that I enjoyed! After reading this book, I better understand Alina's connection to Mal, and that was something that was lacking in the first one. Nikolai, can have my children. I will reproduce heir with you, PLEASE. The face off at the end left me speechless, i would like to keep this spoiler free so i won't go into details. BUT OH MY GOD. ALL the characters went through some sort of character development and I enjoyed every second of it. I enjoyed every second of this book. If you didn't like the st one as much as you'd hoped, READ. THIS. ONE. you won't be disappointed!!

6. It’s okey - I’ve read better books and with more character development, she doesn’t really progress much. The first book I liked. This one the beginning was good. But, then so slow and I was bored through the entire middle and a predictable end. She constantly says the same things over and over. I’m not paying to read the last one.

7. Hunger Games Rip-off or “Girl Complaining All Day” diary? - This books premise was decent and the other book Six of Crows does such a good job building a story and a world that I was expecting that to be done here, given it’s opening. The next thing you know you’re in a terrible version of the Hunger Games book two as they run around on parade. The comparison continues with the prince suddenly having feelings for Alina and it just keeps getting worse as she “struggles” between Mal, the prince, and the darkling. Like can we have some originality here? The book is boring and Alina is supposedly “changing” but she never really shows struggling outside of some misplaced angst that is frankly annoying after page of her complaining and being overly moody. What could be a book filled with intrigue and details as she takes over the second army and delves into the workings of Os Alta and the mythology she is chasing, instead its glossed over for inner dialogue where she just complains. The book is nothing NOTHING like the Six of Crows and is cheap cannon fodder that falls in line with tortured love triangle girl with destiny trope. She does women a disservice by being cowardly instead of stepping up and being more multi-faceted and frankly I can’t believe it can get any worse. What a let down.

8. I really enjoyed it!! - Review originally posted on Reading Books Like a Boss Siege and Storm is a solid second book in the Grisha trilogy that I really enjoyed! At the end of Shadow and Bone , the Darkling was a bad, bad boy. Like really freaking bad. His failed attempts to bend Alina to his will results in him killing an entire village of people. Yikes! Is it wrong of me to say that I still love him a lot little bit after that horrid display of power? Mal and Alina escape his grips and find refuge in a small town across the Fold. What I have enjoyed so much about the first two books in the series is the amount of action right from the beginning. Bardugo gives readers a little introduction and then BOOM something huge happens and you don't want to put the book down. In Shadow and Bone, it was the discovery of Alina's power. In Siege and Storm, it is the Darkling's sudden appearance at Mal and Alina's boarding house. And just as the Darkling leaves the scene again, a new favorite character emerges. His name is Sturmhond and he is the best. He's the privateer with a sense of humor. He's the guy who commands an entire ship of people with charm and a strong hand. There is so much I want to say about him but I don't want to give too much away. I loved how he lit up a scene. Most of all, I loved how Alina didn't put up with his crap. Their interactions were really funny!
"You can't be serious," I said. "Not on a regular basis, no," said Sturmhond. In Shadow and Bone, Alina didn't have the luxury to come to terms with the enormity of her power. In this book, she's even more powerful with not one but two amplifiers. Even with this new power, she still didn't feel like she fit in.
"Even dressed in a glittering kefta and seated beside a price, I was still a peasant from a no-name town. I didn't belong with these people, and I didn't really want to." The relationship between Mal and Alina changes in this one but I felt like it was a very natural progression, considering all of the outside forces at work. With Alina coming into a new role in this book, Mal's lack of a Grisha ability is ever so present. They drift apart, which made me really sad. What I love about their relationship is that it has roots. Mal has loved her since they were little and Alina always say him as the unattainable guy. He fought for her in Shadow and Bone, which is totally hot, right? I have to say that I was a little disappointed in just how absent the Darkling was. I loved him in Shadow and Bone. He is probably one of the most enigmatic villains I've ever read. Something about him just draws you to him. He was gone for a large majority of the book, which left me feeling a bit frustrated. This novel had action in the beginning and crazy action in the end but the middle of the book was a bit slow in parts. There was a lot of focus on Alina's new role at the Little Palace, her relationships. I really liked her new friendship with Sturmhond and I can't wait to see what happens in the next book what with Sturmhond, Mal, and the Darkling all coming together. I think it's going to be insane. stars

1. weird writing - everyone raves abt this book and honestly??? i tried to read it about times, gave up each time, before i tried again for the th time and forced myself through it. this books is veryyy slow.. you don't know where the plot is, and none of the characters are particularly likable (maybe that's because the writing doesn't do much to help us much in terms of narrowing down the personality of each character). i went into it knowing who jude romantically ends up with and was uber surprised to find out that jude doesn't even interact with her supposed 'love interest'. jude doesn't look twice at the love interest throughout this entire book: there is no mention from her of him being handsome or any tension between them at all... and then once the love interest basically says 'yea i like you', jude is all the sudden interested and kisses him????? ummmmmm what????? it was very out of left field, left me wondering if i missed some chapters because it was sooo.. random (and again, this is coming from someone who knew that jude ends up with the guy!). i was looking for the signs and there were none. maybe i just prefer a more thorough narrator as a main character, not sure.

2. AN AMAZING BOOK - This book series has gotten a lot of hype in the past couple of years and when I finally decided to pick up The Cruel Prince I was not disappointed!! Jude is one of my favorite protagonists ever because she has actual flaws. In a lot of books I read the character HAVE flaws, but they’re so small and insignificant that it hardly affects the storyline at all! But Jude Duarte shows vulnerability, raw emotion and all the amazing stuff that you can relate to as a human being. Character development was ON POINT. One second I would love a character and the next I would be wishing them dead. Holly Black played with my emotions throughout all three books in the series. In the beginning I DESPISED Cardin, but now I literally am in love with him. The storyline is also really awesome. A lot of storylines seem forced but this one just flows so naturally I forget I’m even reading!! I don’t usually re-read series, but I will defined be re-reading this one, over and over and over again. If you have not read The Cruel Prince PLEASE read it!! It is one of the best books I have ever read. You will thank me.

3. Disappointed - I love this kind of fairy stories but this one was a big disappointment. I didn’t like any of the characters not a single one of them had a strong connection. I skipped a lot of pages just to see what’s happening next because the story was going on and on with something of no importance. I see that lots if people rated this books stars but i feel that it was just wasted money and i cannot give it more than stars.

4. FAVORITE BOOK OF ALL TIME - I see a lot of comments saying that this books is hard to get into and I defiantly agree with that. Personally, I had to pick up the book different times just to get past the first chapters. Once I did get past it and really pushed myself to read it I was in love. I’m so glad that I found this series even though it was a rough start. This will forever be my comfort series so please, give it a few more chances if needed.

5. LOVED IT - I had very high hopes for this book since I heard great things about it and was definitely satisfied. I loved how this book was not afraid to be “cruel” or uncomfortable and truly value when a book like this is created. Read this please. This book left me in a state of wonder with its colorful and twisted setting.

6. Love this book (spoilers) - Amazing!! I loved the plot, the world and the characters! Jude is such a strong main character and I like how, even though she makes some questionable decisions, the reader supports her anyway. The character arch’s were also well written. The negative turn for Taryn and the positive for Carden. I did start this series with the promise that it’s an enemies to lovers book and I’m glad that it’s a slow burn. I dislike it when authors speed up the romance to fit in the first book. Currently, I like the dynamic between Carden and Jude because they definitely have chemistry but there is still a LOT of work that needs to be down before they can come together.

7. I love this book, definitely worth my time and money - I love the plot of the story, and the main character (Jude’s) character development, you can really see how she grows through the story for the better or worse. I definitely recommend this book to people who love fantasy and powerful characters.

8. What the heck - First, loved all the books. I’m a fan of fantasy books and movies. The perfect book for me !! I actually can’t believe the negative reviews. Even if you don’t like the book, I cannot imagine leaving reviews saying how someone’s time and passion and great intentions was a waste of money and the worst thing ever. People are so weird and removed it’s sad. When you pay for a book you’re doing it already knowing the money is gone. So if you’re that broke to complain about it after then stop buying books. Anyway, great books and I wish there were more in this series talking about their ruling etc! Maybe one day!

9. overrated - now look, i found this book through friends and we take a lot of interest in books with folklore characters. they really messed up with the troupe, because it was obvious the author had tried ‘enemies to lovers’. the ending was really rushed and didn’t make much sense but the beginning to be honest was the entire climax. i wouldn’t recommend this book unless you like bizarre plots.

10. i enjoyed it a lot!!! - i absolutely adore the ending and i love cardan and jude!! the beginning was kinda slow, but about half way through it got very good!! their wasn’t much romance, but i think that made the book better. read this if you liked acotar but want a book with actual plot and a good main character :)))

11. Amazing!! - I couldn’t put it down! The suspense, the plot twists, the completely awesome character of Jude was just superb. I haven’t been giddy over a book in a long time and this had me spiraling!! I can’t put into proper words how awesome this read was! I can’t wait to read the other books!!

1. Cool. - It’s good and all when Jonas fell of the sled the descriptions were kind of gory. Also did he really have to throw up when he fell of? That seems like a weird thing to happen. The book it’s self is very interesting and makes us question about the future. But just one more thing…. THEY KILL BABIES!!!
It’s true!!! The society loves to be equal and if are born they choose the one that weighs less and do what they called being released a.k.a kill people cause they don’t follow the rules aren’t equal or are old. The ending is very good too but is very vague. That is my book review. Even if there are a few problem is it’s still a good book. BTW if you are a very sensitive person who get sad a lot Don’t read this book read something happier

1. Amazing book - I’ve loved the grisha verse sense the first book, and this is no exception. I don’t know if I’m just a little crazy but every time it gets worse for the protagonists it just gets so much better to read. I think some people don’t think it’s as good as the rest and I can see that but overall a really amazing book

2. Perfect next installment - I loved every minute. It’s the perfect follow-up to the Crows duology with tons of references to old characters and previous action. I waited to read this until I also had the sequel (Rule of Wolves) in my hands because once I realized Leigh wasn’t writing it as a standalone, I knew the end would leave me screaming. And it did, oh it did it suuure did.

3. Love it but... - I really like it but I didn’t like hanne at all I’m so to all the people who like her but I found her obnoxious and childish and wimpy so she is the only character I really didn’t like but other that her I really love this book it’s an amazing book and I love the surprise at the end it gave me chills.

4. Yes - Freaking love Nikolai. I freaking LOVE him. He’s perfect. How is he so perfect???? How is he so flawless and wonderful and amazing??? Where do I find one? If the show ruins him, I am going to go absolutely feral. He got more attractive with every chapter. If you read this for no other reason (although the girl power is also well worth it) read it for Nikki.
2021-04-20
5. Interesting - King of Scars is an interesting story but it has a very slow start for the length of the book. The first % is character back ground and current events. Then things get a bit interesting and entertaining though I am still unclear how the king figures everything out at the end, pertaining to the guard unless he went around examining all female guards of the Shu. Oh well.

1. Pretty enjoyable! - I thought that this was really nice to read after “The Cruel Prince” and before “The Wicked King”! It really helped me to get a better understanding of Taryns character. Although it was short, so there was not a huge plot, it was interesting! I would strongly suggest it if you want to get into the Folk of the Air trilogy!

2. Highly recommend reading - This was better than I thought! It helped me look at the first book with a different perspective! I feel like I understand Taryn better now, I finally understand why she did what she did and why. I finally understand Locke and who he is. I understand why Taryn kept her distance from Jude and vice Versa. This book is kind of like adding an extra cherry to a sundae. It adds a new and different perspective. I’m looking forward to reading the second book with the knowledge from the first book and this one

3. Taryn Taryn Taryn. WHY - I love this series so much that I binge read everything during spring break. I love we get to see things from Taryn’s perspective and understand why she did what she did. But my god woman do you get on my nerves. Wonderful short little story on Taryn, but I still can’t accept what she’s done (even by the end of the third book)
2022-05-12
4. Quick read - Very quick read. I didn’t really learn anything new and I still think Taryn is selfish and a bad sister. She’s obsessed with the idea of love and finding her place. I’m honestly not sure what she sees in Locke or why she wants him. Overall this was very well written and kept my interest.
2020-08-10
5. Not sure it was worth the cost - The Lost Sisters provides Terayn’s side of events. The story was interesting and somewhat entertaining but it really didn’t progress the series arch. The story does however show Terayn’s selfishness and greed. It will be interesting to see if & how the marriage between her and Locke goes.
2019-03-03
6. Made me dislike Taryn even more - This novella told from Taryn’s perspective gave quite a bit of insight into parts of the story that was missing from the first book. I felt some things made a lot more sense and became less cryptic especially where Locke was concerned. Also the short stories at the beginning were amusing. The only thing is that I like Taryn even less now. Queen Jude foevea

1. it was okay - i have some good things that i enjoyed about this book but my review on this is a negative one overall. to start off i feel like the characters, plot, and worldbuilding really fell off from what it used to be in the first books. the story started to feel like it was dragging on through a lot of the parts and it took me a really long time to actually finish this book because of how much the scenes dragged on. throughout the first books, the characters were more like-able and had more dimension. the characters are still good however i feel like they each had very little development and after reading this book, it’s as though they were being driven by the plot, and didn’t have their original flare to them. that being said, there was also additional characters introduced that i didn’t feel like were necessary or contributed much to the story, i found myself often forgetting who characters like raphael or other members of the order were throughout the series. even the main character Grace tends to be repetitive and annoying as a narrator at times. she also becomes incredibly predictable throughout the entire story. i think this book is a good read if you don’t look into it too much, but for me personally it dragged on and it wasn’t as much of a fun read as the earlier books.

2. This Series could go on forever!! - Just WOW! Describing this book I don’t even know if there are words for how incredibly written it is. Page turner, heart wrenching (I cried so much in this book) and Hilarious (I laughed equally as much),and so entertaining!! This is one of those series that will never get old to read. I cannot wait for the next book!

3. The best ever!!! - This series is one of my favorite stories of all time!!! The romance between characters is one of the best romances ever and the action is amazing!!! I’ve read the series multiple times over. My friend and I can’t wait for the next two books because the others were so great!!! You won’t regret reading this series!!! It might become your favorite series, too!!! I highly, highly recommended it!!!

4. Wonderful closure. - I really enjoyed the adventure and tone of this book. I loved all the character developments and I loved how everything wrapped up. What a marvelous series. I’m super happy with spending my time reading it. I will say, it was a bit annoying how often Grace made things all about her, even though many people tried to tell her they weren’t doing things just for her sake. But I was thrilled with the amazing person she became at the end. And of course, absolutely love Hudson!
2022-06-06
5. Conflicted - So I absolutely love this series but the initial reason as to why I wanted to keep reading was because I loved the first novel and most importantly the relationship between Jaxon and Grace. But now we all just have to accept the fact that she’s with the other hot brother Hudson? I have the physical hardcovers for these novels and I am looking forward to the next two installments later this year but please go back to the atmosphere and dynamic from the first novel where most of us loved the witty humor, pop culture/literature references, etc. the books after seemed rushed and over the top. I found myself skipping pages and getting a headache. If Jaxon & Grace don’t find their way into each other’s arms again I hope Tracy Wolff will consider a spin off with Jaxon’s life for novels.

6. Not worth the wait - This book felt really predictable. Grace is annoying through the whole book. The constant insecurity was maddening. Obviously at the end she got over it, but this book was not as good as the previous ones. I think the Dawud character could’ve been left out. I understand trying to write a book that’s progressive, but I literally could not imagine this character at all. The description was lacking and felt forced through the entire thing. I couldn’t tell if they were bad or good until like halfway through. The book could’ve definitely benefited from having a different character instead of them. The amount of double crossing was outrageous and annoying. Almost no one came through for the crew, except at the end with Izzy but I feel like it was minimal. I liked the depth Grace has and the back story, but I’m over the woah is me stuff. She’s riddled with guilt constantly over things she can’t control. And whatever happened to Hudson wanting his powers taken away?? That just was brushed over. I feel like I waited too long for a book that was a let down and rushed, especially as the author is doing talking about releasing more books. I love the series, but take your time and craft your books. Don’t rush through them.

7. Feeling unsure - Have loved the series thus far. However, frustrated with adding a character using pronouns. Not necessary and confusing since it’s with a group of charrctors. And the inner monologue of the main character feels like it’s on repeat when “think back” to things they have gone through. Only about / through so we shall see.
2022-02-07
8. Captivating - I tried to read this slowly, but was caught up in the fast moving story and devoured the entire book quickly. To me this is a perfect mix of Legacies, Vampire Diaries with a Twilight love theme. I love all the references to actual songs, movies and literature that make the characters seem so real.
2022-02-06
9. Work of Art - I must say that Tracy's writing style is a work of art. I have never oohed and ahhed or squealed and gasped so much in my life while reading. From start to finish you will be obsessed. It is so easy fall in love with the characters. The romance is spot on and the action will have you reading at the edge of your seat. Take a bite out of Court, you won't be disappointed.

10. Another Great Book From Tracy Wolff! - “Race you to the ocean…” This book! This STUNNING masterpiece! Favorite book ever. Hands down. Ever. Because this book made me physically SHAKE from fear and anticipation. This book had me pulling it to my face and SOBBING with the ache of it all. It had me laughing so hard from the fun. This book had me cheering with happiness. But this book is just another step in this amazing series. The steps leading to this moment…climbing ever higher with amazing characters, deep plot, light hearted banter, themes with great depth, and MAGIC filled to the brim. Can’t wait until the next one! Tracy really knocked it out of the park with this one. Beyond anything I could ever imagine. Tracy, Queen of cliffhangers and plot twists! I’ve never had a series grab my heart like this. Never have I loved a world so brilliant, so full of magic. A book that breaks through the barriers, adding in diversity and representation. I’m left still trying to steady my heart rate over the excitement of this book and this series. When my heart finally slows…I know all I’ll find is deep love for this magnificent story and the wonderful author that brought this story to life.

11. Roller Coaster ride of emotions - Roller Coaster Ride of Emotions...Packed Full of Choices (because there are always choices - good or bad)...Grief Leads to Growth...Become a Great Leader Friendships...Trust...Resolve...Determination...Tears as Pure Strength...Loss...Sacrifice...
Hope...Honor...Love...Promises Chess anyone? I've loved this book series since the beginning. It truly feels like one big chess game that isn't being played by the rules. How far would you go to protect those you love? What sacrifices would you be willing to make to keep your loved ones safe? "What do I want to do, or what do I think we should do?" "I will not kneel before a monster." Can't wait to see where the series takes me next.

1. Just incredible! - The imagery within the writing is just amazing. The bond that they share seems insurmountable, but can still remind us of what we have felt like when in love. There is nothing ordinary about this book series. I’m glad I spent the money on it because I couldn’t wait to find out what happened next.
2022-02-10
2. Wrong ending - This was a fantastic series and book was my favorite. The ending provided in book was so majorly missed for me. It felt too much of a Disney fairytale ending than a realistic one. It was too romanticized which I felt was already wrapped up nicely before the final fight scene. The final fight scene was rushed but still an ok scene. I just felt the overall ending to the main character was a romanticized Disney version that was unrealistic despite the reasoning provided by the author.
2021-07-24
3. Please save yourself and don’t finish the series - I was so disappointed at the ending that I didn’t know whether the author was being serious. SPOILERS AHEAD! first off she ended up with the wrong person and that was simply hard to read. Secondly she lost her powers and once again chose Mal. Lastly I hated the fighting scene when she killed the darkling. He went out in a good way which was satisfying but the scene ended before you could process it. She would go into detail in the boring parts and passed over the action and drama way to quickly, but needless to say this was a great book series so I’ll give it the benefit if the doubt and say this. If you want a conclusion to the series that you will ultimately hate and be frustrated with. Read this book. That’s fine by me but if you don’t want that then I’d suggest you move on for the series after the second one. It truly isn’t worth wasting your time on.

4. No ma’am - Why? Loved this whole series and then the ending happened. Three whole books and that was how it ended... no, just no. No hate to Mal but when you have Nikolai as an option verse really anyone he’s the obvious choice. And (SPOILER) WHY DID ALINA HAVE TO LOSE HER POWERS??? I was more sad for Alina than Alina was for herself. Other than this disappointing ending I love this series.

5. Great series... - Overall series (the first two books especially) were awesome. The characters and the plot were both developed so well I had a hard time putting the book down. However the last book didn’t turn out as I wanted and expected. I was disappointed that it didn’t seem as well thought out and written as the rest of the book. I would still recommend it, and overall it was a great read and a thrilling ride.

6. READ IT - So here’s the dealio, I had finished of what is so far the shatter me series and have been in a mourning period for the my wait until the next book for that series. Then I search on websites books similar to the shatter me series. And this series isn’t really like the shatter me series, BUT IT IS GOOD. no... IT IS AMAZING. I read it in days (obsessed). I made me cry and want MORE. Just the characters are so well thought out and amazing.

7. Ruin and rising - I was so captured in the story, characters, cultures and history of this trilogy. I couldn't wait to get the chance to get to my fantasy adventure. Anyone who starts reading these intriguing, creative and beautifully written books will just be more captivating the more they read. The characters are so interesting it's hard to stop reading. Hope everyone enjoys them as much as I do!

8. Good book but... - SPOILER ALERT Don't get me wrong this book was great I loved the beginning and middle. I hated the end though. It was predictable. Alina battles the darkling, wins and Saunters into the sunset with mal. I was hoping for something a little different than the other teen fiction books I normally read. You spent the whole time putting this connection between aleksander ( the darkling ) and you just destroyed it in the end. I thought maybe Alina would join the darkling or even change him. I was just hoping for something that wasn't so predictable ugh! Loved your whole series and everything about it except the ending of this book....

9. Wow!! I LOVED the conclusion of Leigh Bardugo's Grisha Trilogy! - Review originally posted on Reading Books Like a Boss Wow!! I LOVED the conclusion of Leigh Bardugo's Grisha Trilogy! This trilogy was absolutely fantastic. I cared about the characters, every single one of them, even the villains. Ruin and Rising What I loved about the series as a whole was that the author never lost sight of the bigger picture. The whole series builds to a fight between good and evil, dark and light, a incessant battle for power. It would have been really easy to have focused on the romance aspect of the book but that didn't happen. The focus on the battle between the Darkling and Sun Summoner really propelled the series forward, especially this final book. Alina's character development over the course of the series was brilliant. It kind of reminded me of the way Karen Marie Moning built MacKayla Lane's character like a freaking boss. In Shadow and Bone, Alina was a meek mapmaker who lacked confidence, who pined over her best friend and soldier. She never thought she was worthy. After she discovered her gifts brimming underneath her skin, she was forced to go through so much, and in turn she came into her own. She blossomed and commanded an army, made friends with warriors, and won the hearts of many. But only one person had her heart. The romance in this series is very understated but quite lovely at the same time. Leigh Bardugo had an opportunity to take the romance in to triangle territory (and even square territory) but she didn't. She stayed true to the characters in this one.
"You were meant for more than me, and I'll die fighting to give it to you. but please don't ask me to pretend it's easy." There was one clear villain in the series, a love interest, and a strong leader with great comedic timing. Admittedly, I grew a little tired of Mal's incessant desire to put aside his feelings for Alina in order for her to take the crown. But I understood why he was that way (that didn't mean I had to like it though stomps foot). After a long and very apparent absence from my heart, the Darkling came back with a vengance in Ruin and Rising. Holy Saints, he's a vicious thing.
"You live in a single moment. I live in a thousand." The utterly seductive Darkling I loved in Shadow and Bone is no longer. He's killing things with no craps given, manipulating people like it's his job, and just being generally creepy. He's one of my favorite villains because even though he's bad, there are still cracks in his veneer of good. He allows himself to be vulnerable (or maybe he's just playing Alina), where you see the young innocent boy he once was. This is one of those series with wonderful secondary characters. David and Genya's adorable relationship and quiet devotion. Sturmhond's Grisha, Tamar and Tolya, were fierce warriors, yet knew when to be funny. And who can forget Oncat and Harshaw, the Inferni who loved his tabby cat so much. I really enjoyed them all, even Zoya with her prissiness stuck-up attitude. The ending melted my heart and left me with a big smile on my face. Though it was a little bittersweet, I was still incredibly happy and I don't think I could have asked for a better ending than this. Thank you, Leigh Bardugo. . stars

10. Amazing! - Ruin and Rising is the most kickass, well developed, well written, and unique fantasy book I've ever read. With amazing writing and a Russian folk tale atmosphere this book is insanely good and unique from other, more cliché fantasy books where nothing too gory happens and everyone lives and the hero lives happily ever after. All in all the best book I've ever read and I highly recommend it
2015-03-17
11. Great Finish - I really love the end to this series. When I first started reading this series I was kind of conflicted about reading it all the way through to the end mostly because Alina was never really confident about herself and in her looks and for some reason that really bugged me but as I read the series I got addicted. I loved this last book. Everything was tied up nicely and there were really no loose ends left. This whole series was really amazing. I felt the emotions with the characters and when they felt loss I felt loss. I cried and smiled along with all the characters. The end of this book was nice. It was like the series had come full circle and it was heartwarming to see that they'd built an school together to house children who were orphans. It was also nice to see that Alina and Mal could just be Alina and Mal again. There was nothing bigger in the picture. The simplicity of the ending was quiet and beautiful. Secretly I wished I could've seen what it'd be like if the two of them had children haha. Also some secret, small part of me wished she would've chosen Aleksander (The Darkling). Overall though amazing book and an amazing series. / would recommend to anyone.

1. Kingdom of the Feared - Stars - SPOILERS Emilia has given into her desires and claimed her demon king! FINALLY! She continues to unravel the deception that was placed in front of her. 2. Obsessed - Plowed through all three books in about a week. Got no work done I tell you. I saw this third book got less than great reviews, however, this was the ending I was hoping for when I started the series. I do think there are a few loose ends that didn’t get tied up/addressed and some suspicious undertones I think would have been able to play out had the book been a few hundred pages longer, but the people that mattered were the focus and their stories resolved. I enjoyed this book SO much I’m tempted to start the series again now knowing how things play out and all the twists and turns that kept things interesting. I do think I would be able to catch on to certain things in the other books now reading with a clearer set of eyes. Definitely get this book - all three of them!

3. Wrath is everything - Not the biggest fan of book one but commend you on character development. There are some dated ideologies in this book as other readers say but it not about a girl boss it about building a health relationship. What that looks like. How one gets to have that endless once in a lifetime love. The series shows you the ups and down; really shows of great character development and a message about the importance of choice and how you have to choose you partner time and time again. Although alive and well, I’ll miss Wrath. I love him. Thank you

4. Seriously? - Spoilers ahead, you’ve been warned
Really? In the year we’re still writing FMCs who give up their power for men? It does not “set you free” as Emilia states, it leaves you quite literally powerless. And I don’t care that Wrath shares power with her in the end- that’s even worse! He could literally take it away at anytime like for real what message are you sending the readers? Especially considering this is YA. Boo tomatoes all around I knew I should’ve stopped reading this series after the second book.

5. My favorite series EVER - I was so invested in this series I almost called out of work to read it. Amazing AMAZING job at keeping it interesting and thrilling without it being repetitive at all. The spice was phenomenal, the characters were FLAWLESS, the way the difference houses and parties were described was perfect. /

1. Secrets Finally Revealed - This book was impossible to put down. Finally, Clare reveals so many of the secrets. I have read all of her books. If I had one complaint, it would be that Tessa had a very small role in this storyline. She is such a huge character to be put on the back burner. Moms have a sixth sense about our children, I felt like she would have been more in tune to James and Lucie. Beyond that, the book was so extraordinary that I plan to listen to the audiobook next.

1. Despite frustration VERY GOOD - At first, I found it to be a little difficult to get into this book despite the fantastical elements. However I still wanted to give it a chance, after the summoning of Wrath I was hooked. Love the slow burn that was so good yet agonizing. The author’s masterful use of research, setting, and creativity made me feel like I was actually in each scene. Can’t wait to read more in this series!

2. Best book series yet - My favorite series of all time. I could stay up all night enthralled in these books! The story is incredible and always keeps you guessing, the love story keeps you wanting more and the descriptions of scenes makes your mouth water. I’m so sad I have to wait until September for the rd book to come out!!

3. Best book I’ve read! - I’m not much of a reader, but recently I decided to pick up this book I found at B&N, but I desperately wanted it on my phone since I hate the clutter of having actual books in my house… however I have to say this is one of the best books I’ve ever read! I’m not even joking it took me about - days to finish this book that’s how much I liked it, it really does make you itch to read more!! I couldn’t get enough of this book and I can’t wait to start the second one!

4. Try it out for yourself! - Absolutely enthralling!! The storyline is captivating and really makes the reader yearn for more. The chemistry and sarcasm between the main characters is funny and enticing. The storyline does have some plotholes or moves too fast in certain parts, but everything makes sense and allows the reader to fully Hague what goes on. The ending is shocking and amazing!!!! You’re in for a wild ride ! Loved it loved it loved it!

5. AND SO IT BEGINS - This story has all the makings to be a MUST READ epic fantasy series. Between falling in love with the characters and being pulled straight into the adventure and mystery, I was hypnotized by the mouth watering descriptions of food. Seriously didn’t realize how much I’d obsess over that. If you love Sarah J. Maas, this is going to be your next favorite series!!! Trust me and just READ IT.

6. Once it starts, it doesn’t stop - Although this book did have its downfalls, I still very much enjoyed what it had to offer. The plot seemed rushed towards the end, and it just AHHHHH cliffhanger. Emilia’s character wasn’t the one I truly expected to engulf in what she does, but she definitely shows more power and worthiness throughout the book. Overall great read, that has got me back into reading again. Can’t wait for October!

7. Dark and fulfilling. - (No spoilers here!) Although it’s seems fast paced at times, the details the author goes into are beautifully depicted and actually one of the main reasons I kept wanting to read chapter after chapter.(Finished in day’s y’all.) It’s a amazing read if you’d like a story of a girl looking for retribution, diving in and trying to find her own way through a sinister and cunning world. All in all, I wished we’d gotten better character arc’s, but don’t fret, it is just the st book in the series. Can’t wait for the nd coming out in October!!

8. Had its issues but still % recommend - Was this book perfect? No. Did I still tear through it in two days? Absolutely. I felt like it could have been about pages longer as it felt kind of rushed at the end and there were some loose ends in the plot but hopefully they will be addressed in the next book. What Kerri does so well is building that tension between Emilia and Wrath - it legit had me sweating at some points. Now I’m just mad I have to wait until the fall for the next book!!

9. so good!! - this was like the first book ive read in awhile and i came here thru tiktok and honestly it was amazing i loved the mystery elements and obviously the concept of the seven deadly sins so i would totally recommend it to people who have nothing to do and are looking for a book to read!! i finished it in like days and im excited to read the rest of the series when it comes out

10. Non-Spoiler Book Review - This story was very unexpected. That . rating is not a bad rating but it is also not a great one. I loved Kerri’s Stalking Jack the Ripper series, I thought they were full of life and had the most authentic characters in them. In this one, however, I found myself getting lost while reading the story because I couldn’t necessarily find the true purpose of each character. I know that for a story to develop there needs to be secrets for the reader to unfold but at the end of the book, I couldn’t help but feel unsatisfied at how the characters of this story.
In this book, we follow the story of Emelia Maria di Carlo, she is a witch that lives in Italy with her family. She and her twin sister were once very close, but as they grew older, that trust became more of a frail thing. While Emilia worked in their family’s restaurant, Vittoria--Emilia’s twin sister--snuck off to do who knows what. Ignoring her grandma’s wishes for them to stay inside and practice protection spells, Vittoria still went about the night not caring for her grandma’s cautious words about how demons were roaming the earth. It wasn’t much later when Emilia found her sister’s corpse. So now Emilia, filled with sadness, grief, and anger, tries to seek vengeance for her sister promising death to her killer, little does she know that she’d need help from the wickedest of all demon princes, Wrath.
Emilia’s character was more so like when you try to blow a candle but even though you keep blowing the candle won’t go out. I completely understand that while you’re trying to deal with grief you want to focus all that energy on something productive, something that sort of makes you forget. The way Emilia dealt with her grief was trying to find her sister’s killer. And while I don’t condemn her for doing so, I believe she could’ve been smarter about it. Wrath, one of the Seven deadly princes of Hell, was a mystery to me throughout this book. Even as I read his character development in the story, I still couldn’t figure out his purpose. I never felt a connection between Emilia and Wrath at all. She was using him and he was using her. Kerri didn’t give us enough sentimentality in this book for us to fall in love with them as characters, which is why I was so confused in the end when Emilia felt like Wrath had betrayed her. The entire book felt like something was missing, the more I read, the more I kept trying to find something that wasn’t there. In the end, when I finally thought the book would climax, I didn’t feel anything at all. This is such a shame because this story had so much potential. I was waiting for Emilia to kill one of the princes, or for her to take hold of her life and make it make sense. I don’t even know how to explain it other than it was lackluster. I would probably read the next book because I’m curious to see what’s next for these two characters, but make no mistake, this is not a story about forbidden love. This isn’t the story where a witch falls in love with the most dangerous prince of Hell. In this story, you won’t fall in love with the prince either. This story is about a witch that lost her sister and will do anything to avenge her.
If you like, Jennifer Armentrout, Richelle Mead, Brigid Kemmerer, S. J. Jones, Sarah Henning, Natalie Parker, etc; then you’ll enjoy this book. Fifteen-year-olds and older can read this book. And as always, I want to thank you guys for reading my post. I truly appreciate it.

1. Great read - A breath of fresh air to a theme I was beginning to think was tired. However once you get pasted the semi-cringness some YA novels have, you start to feel for the characters and their direness to break these dreadful curses. stars because of the reoccurring confusion on some of the intertwining of the curses and how the characters navigated throughout the book with them in mind. Just needed more clarity. Can’t wait for the next book and what’s in store for light lark

2. Good grief - This book makes very little sense. I’m an avid fantasy reader and this… I burned through it fast just because I was so hopeful for the concept but my god The main character is an insufferable Mary Sue self insert who is called a “strategist” but also is so freaking impulsive she ruins her own plans literally every time she makes one. The plot twist… I mean look I love a good plot twist, hit me over the head with a surprise piano for all I care, but typically they’re something you say “oh crap it was THEM!?!!!!” and a reread adds substance to the things you now know indicate the twist. That… that does not happen this is totally out of the blue. The creepy age gap romance in fantasy books is always a delight, ick. I… I cannot begin to explain without spoiling it further how bummed I was about this book.

1. FANTAAASTIC!! - This was no doubt my favorite book in the entire grishaverse, it was so well written and had so many characters come back into play it was amazing!! I couldn’t put it down! It made my heart ache in so many wonderful ways, I will more than likely re-read it in the next few weeks. I’m not ready to let this wonderful world go.

2. Took Awhile But Then Got Great! - I notice Leigh takes quite awhile to build up the characters and story lines in her books and this was the same, I felt like I was % through before anything really happened and almost gave up. BUT then it really picked up and I loved how it all came together lots of surprises!

3. Love it - I love this book it’s amazing. I was on the edge of my seat the whole time the only thing in didn’t like was sorry this is a Spoiler but I don’t care I hate Nina and hanne together I mean no offense to anyone but I just really loved Matthias and Nina but I love all of the other character relationships but I really mean no offense to anyone.

4. The Endgame of the Grishaverse - I could not put this book down! The plot, the characters, the cameos, the action, the PLOT!!! It is not very often that I have no clue what will happen next in YA or NA books, but this book had me on the edge of my seat. It truly was the Avengers Endgame of the Grishaverse and I loved every second of it.

1. Both sides (kind of) - I will make this quick. This is probably the last book you would want to read for a project. Maggie Stievater has this amazing talent where she makes reading her books like reading a movie. The plot is a little all over the place which represents our lives. I loved the Shiver Trilogy, the way you could read from the characters point of view was so cool to me and I wish she did the same here but even so, amazing. I don’t think you can even say “point of view”, she TURNS INTO her characters and plays them out so well. Again, it’s like reading a movie. She has a way with words. Even if a character ends up killing somebody you would be able to understand them so well and the reasoning behind it because of emotion within every sentence. Sometimes I forgot I was reading book because of how well the words flow together. You don’t need to have a good imagination because her books will automatically paint an amazing reality in you head. Ok... maybe not so short.

2. Wow. Just wow. - I've been disgruntled with YA literature for a long time now, especially for the last couple of years, but this series captivated me. Before I go any further, I will say that this is a character driven story, not a plot driven story, so it will come across as being slow. But the focus isn't the plot; it's the setting, the atmosphere, and the humanity of the people into whose lives we are getting a glimpse. And in each of those arenas, this book knocks the ball out of the park. Having already read the other three books in this series, I can say that I have not been disappointed, but I still consider this one my favorite of the four. I have read nothing like it before, and I will probably never read anything like it ever again. Bravo.

3. Captivating & sets your heart on fire - This book made me more of a dreamer. It made me explore the world around me more and ask odd questions. A book about adventure, love, magic, and secrets seems like the ultimate teen book in my opinion. I finished this, almost , pages, in around - days simply because I could not put it down. It's got a lot of depth to each character and to the plot. You don't just follow a story line, you follow the lives of Gansey, Ronan, Adam, and Blue. If you want a book where you're simply following one simple plot, this isn't for you. Maggie captured the big picture but didn't forget even the smallest details. I am now enveloped into the world of Henrietta, Virginia and the characters in it.

4. Amazing - This book was extremely well-written. The way the words flowed together to paint beautiful, breathtaking visual images made me forget I was even reading a book. I found myself sucked into their reality, right alongside the people in this book.
The characters in this book are so well-thought up as well. Everyone has a distinct, different personality, and somehow they all work together in sometimes strange ways. I would recommend this book to anyone out there, although, be warned: you will not be able to put it down

5. Fantastic! - Read this book on a recommendation, and I am honestly impressed. From the get-go I felt a connection to all of these characters and their quest. Normally it will take me ages to finish a book despite how interested I am- with this one, however, I couldn't put it down. Can't wait to get the next one!

6. Sorry to be harsh:(, but it's accurate - I tried so hard to get into it but I just couldn't because it didn't read well, there were parts (most of the story) where I just didn't care, and it emphasized and elongated the stuff that should be short and sweet- the things that get boring fast. I thought it would be really cool but the way it was executed was disappointing. This is coming from someone that has read and loved the mortal instruments, vampire academy, Mara dyer, mind jacker, the fifth wave, maze runner, divergent... If you love any of those books like I do, then I am telling you you won't like this.

7. Please read - I absolutely loved Scorpio Races. Shiver was ok though I didn't finish the series. Too much romance. When I began the Raven Boys, I was once again impressed with Maggie's writing, characterization, and overall voice. But as the series progressed, the books end up using more and MORE language which for me was really hard to stomach. Also the magical bits weren't thought out as well as I'd hoped they would be and were kinda off-kilter and wacky sometimes. This is an impressive series and quite beautiful, but honestly there is so much language in the nd and rd book I wanted to puke. It just got repetitive and annoying and of course it still stays gross. Ech. But if you don't mind a more colorful series then this would be a good one to choose. The third book is kind of weird.

8. FANTASTIC - I am always reading books. When i picked up this book, I had never read a book made by Maggie Stiefvater. This book promised everything that I like in books: fiction, romance, supernatural. I could feel that I was going to love it. At first the book was mostly introducing the characters and you got to know more about each of them. However, then Blue and Gansey met and I couldn't think about anything else. This book captivated me the second I picked it up. Although I read a lot of books, I don't usually want to read them again, but this is one that I certainly will. The book is just amazing and incredible. You should have seen me when I found out they were going to make it into a movie, I couldn't stop smiling. Anyways, if you're looking for a book of supernatural, romance, fiction, and that is captivating like The Raven Boys, I suggest you don't even think twice about reading it!

9. My favorite book - This book is amazing!! Maggie Stiefvater is my favorite author, and this is my favorite of her books. The characters are complex, the writing poetic, and the plot original. My favorite thing about this book is the emotions. It doesn't just tell you the character is happy; it makes you feel happy in a way that no YA writer whose books i have read have achieved. I highly suggest any of Maggie Stiefvaters books!!!

1. Loved it - Rage and Ruin is the second book in The Harbinger series and I just loved getting to reenter this amazing world. Holy crap I’m just so stunned by this book. I was just drawn into this world and I am just speechless. This book was just outstanding and oh my gosh that ending. I’m immediately picking up the next book in the series.

2. Really love this series and Jennifer’s writing! - While this wasn’t my favorite book in this series, I still completely enjoyed it. And when I say it wasn’t my favorite of this series, I only mean that because Trinity was in her most vulnerable place in this book, which caused her to make so many decisions that just made me want to shake her and tell her to snap out of it. But alas, all main characters need to learn from the harsh moments of their life, and Trinity is definitely dealing with a lot in this book. My frustration with her is not a gripe on Jennifer’s writing. If anything it’s a praise to her writing, as I was pulled in and emotionally invested in a way that made me want to step right in and tell this main character a thing or two about her attitude at times. Just like I would want to do with a close friend. I have come to thoroughly enjoy Jennifer Armentrout’s writing and story telling. I first read her From Blood and Ash series (so desperately waiting for War of Two Queens) and I was hooked from the beginning. But this series felt so much like a big, warm nostalgic blanket to me personally. Her writing and the personality of these characters reminds me of all the amazing and hilarious attributes that I loved about the Buffy the Vampire Slayer characters. As that is my ultimate favorite childhood TV show, this book reminded me in so many ways of it. This book is full of amazing humor, so many fun pop culture references, and above all, a sincerely beautiful story that is so full of hope amidst the darkest moments. And maybe some people think that’s cliché, but I think it’s a necessary reminder for so many of us. I didn’t think I would enjoy this series because I am very much not a fan of anything along Biblical lines, but Jennifer’s writing genuinely looped me in and I loved everything about it. I also want to say in this review that I will read everything Jennifer publishes. Her writing feels real, vulnerable, and powerful all throughout her books. I’m very grateful for her gift of story telling.

3. Beyond in love - I love this whole series. The author did a wonderful job. I read both of these books in less than a day I was so invested. I hope there’s more to this series. I love how it’s not your typical romance either. I couldn’t predict what was happening. I would suggest this to anyone who asked for a good book. I will be buying the hard copies soon. They deserve a spot on my bookshelf.

4. Good read, but a little too long - Good story. A little long. I kept putting the it down and starting again. JA knows how to make you invest in her characters and want to know what happens to them. This story takes you around the world and back and leaves several open ended story lines. Keep tissues handy for the last part of the book. I bawled my eyes out. (That’s how you know JA has great character development!!!) Looking forward to the next book and finding out some answers. (there has to be another book! It can’t end like this.)

1. Movie deal? - Just finished the second book in this trilogy and I can't remember the last time I enjoyed one this much. Intriguing and compelling characters and storylines, plus great plot twists. Fantastic immersion into the supernatural. I'm enjoying the ride and can't wait to finish the final book. This would be amazing on the big screen! Hope to be able to watch it some day.

2. Are you kidding me! - OMG. This is the crappiest sequel ever. I can’t believe that this sappy, barely high school ‘romance’ is the follow up to that great first book. Talk about a letdown and waste of my time and money. It wasn’t until the ending that anything remotely resembling the first installment happened. I surely will NOT be wasting anymore time or money on the next installment.

3. Excellent YA book, could not put it down! - I really enjoyed this book -just as much as the first book. There is so much action, suspense & drama going on, though the romance is a little bit on the back burner. But with so much else going on, I didn't really miss the romance to much. I was on the edge of my seat & stayed up way to late to finish this to see how it would end. Awesome book!

4. Absolutely Super! - Karen Lynch hasn’t dissapointed in this sequel to Relentless, in fact, she has surpassed my expectations. I fell even harder. The characters we met and fell in love with in the first book are back and are just as whitty and thrilling as ever. New characters are introduced and you cannot help but to adore them as well. In the second book in this trilogy Sarah finds herself once again trying to protect and aid others while forming unique friendships along the way in her new Morhiri surroundings. She meets family that she never knew she had and gets her butt whipped (putting it mildly) in training. Lots of laughs, surprises and new mysteries are revealed as old and new relationships grow right along with her own self. Exciting, adventerous and adirable. I could not and did not put it down until the end. Cannot wait for book , Rouge!

5. Favorite Book! - I cannot even begin to tell you how much I love this book! It's beautifully written and has a perfect balance of action, humor, and romance. I especially love all the different fantasy elements and the strong female lead! This is definitely one of the best books that I've read in a LONG time! Can't wait to read the next one!

6. IN LOVE WITH THIS SERIES!!!! - The storyline was amazing and smooth, wasn't mushy (had the just the right amount of romance!!! ), very action-packed and never boring!!!! I practically inhaled the words and the plot was so intense and made me feel so many things like extreme joy, sadness, and just made me straight up cry like a giant baby!!!! I'm SOOOOO excited for the next book that I pre-ordered it and I'm sure that it will be nothing short of the first and second books!!!!! Keep doing what u do Karen!!!! I'll always be supporter of you're books and I look forward to any new works that might come in the future P.S. Can October come sooner cuz I literally started crying after I finished this book within days and I was left on a cliffhanger with just the fricking sample!!!!!! THIS IS WHEN YOU KNOW WHEN A BOOK IS AMAZING WHEN EVEN THE SAMPLE BLEW MY MIND!!!!!!!

7. Another Awesome Book - Karen Lynch did it again. Refuge, book of The Relentless Series is outstanding. New friendships, relationships, and betrayal meet you in Refuge. Sara meets more of her family and the relationship dynamic of Sara and Nikolas will have you smiling throughout. Sara is a strong, brave, and powerful lady and I can't wait to see her grow more in Rogue and see her relationship with Nikolas grow together as equals.
2015-08-28
8. Give me More! - Read the first book and absolutely loved it. Consumed the second book and could not get enough. I never reread books but with this one and Relentless I found myself rereading them whenever I had time and each time I reread them I found new things to love about both books and the characters within.
2015-08-26
9. Absolutely LOVE this book - I LOVE this series soooooooo much! I finished the second book in less than hours, I was just so invested in the beautiful world Lynch has created. Bravo to the author! A suggestion: don't go the old-school way and write just a trilogy. I'd love to learn about Sara's adventures even after the events of the third book are over. A spin off series on Desmund, Tristan, Jordan, and of course NIKOLAS. Please, I beg of you Karen Lynch, don't give me just three books. Anyways, EVERYONE READ THIS SERIES

10. You won't regret buying this. - Let me start by saying that this is not your average YA paranormal novel, it is anything but that. Refuge is full of vampires, werewolves, and magical creatures, yet it isn't anything like you would expect. Usually I'm able to predict the outcome of books like this based on the fact that most authors have the same ideas and plots about vampires, werewolves, etc., but this is definitely not the case. Every time I went to turn the page, I could never guess what would happen. Karen Lynch went above and beyond with the world she created. I can't even begin to explain how excited I am to find a book that finally had me sitting on the edge of my seat, hanging at its every word. Throughout the book, it was easy to feel the main character's emotion. I was ecstatic, upset, on the verge of tears, you name it. This has easily became one of my favorite series, and I will be buying the third book with no doubt of being disappointed. Great job, Karen.
2015-08-18
11. Amazing!!! - I was able to get an advance copy of refuge and it did not disappoint! This story has a lot of butt kicking scenes along with a love interest that is unlike any other books I've read.plus we get to meet a lot of new creatures and people that you will fall in love with instantly! If you loved relentless you will definitely love refuge! I can't wait for the third book to come out!
