1. Great Reading Even Beyond Youth Years - I feel privileged to be of Mexican American descent. I also love to read about the struggles of what it may have been like to be first generation. I think of how much was taken by being fourth generation, how much was gained. Erika Sanchez’s books have brought me to bursts of tears and laughter.

2. Good writing - This was not necessarily a bad book, probably just not my taste. The author is clearly a great writer, she uses amazing figures of speech & very strong & vivid imagery (which I thoroughly enjoyed). I just believe the story is filled with a some unnecessary side information. Though I understand it’s needed to witness the characters growth. I believe the story doesn’t necessarily get good until the very end. Again I didn’t hate this book but I’d say I didn’t love it as well. Someone might greatly enjoy it! That being said no hate to the author & I’m glad I checked this book off my list.

4. I loved and enjoyed it! - Honestly I could relate a lot to this book I’m also a first generation Mexican American in my family. I did struggle a lot with getting along with my parents. However over time I learned how have empathy for them as like Julia with her parents. I really enjoyed this amazing book!! I would really recommend!

5. MY NOW FAVORITE BOOK!!! - I have LITERALLY never related to a book more then now! I love this book and the topics it touched on. As a First generation Mexican American daughter its hard tbh and not a lot of people know that. Especially within out own families. Reading this book made me so happy because people like me and julia are being represented. I wish there were more books like this one with like different situations but that still covered first generation issues, traditions, and culture.

6. Wonderful - It’s funny how so many people like myself can relate to Julia and her life journey. Reading this book made me feel as if I was looking into a glass mirror and viewing myself. The author did a wonderful job portraying the job of first generation Latina’s and the struggle that come with being one. I would deeply recommend this book. A page turner for sure, and a refreshing one as well.

8. Beautiful story -culture, life experiences & lessons - An amazing book about the life of a Mexican (American) teen who has such interesting experiences at such a young age. Her experiences and the lessons she learns are interwoven perfectly in this juxtaposition of feelings, thought, experiences, goals, culture, relationships, family and personal history. The cultural references provide the reader a deeper understanding of the experiences of a first generation individual- and Mexican culture. The constant literacy references also provide the reader a deeper understanding and leave room for interpretation of the characters and themes. A beautiful story that captures life experiences and relationships with ones family and self through words and metaphors. One of the best books I’ve read on a long time. As a Mexican American, first generation woman, I appreciate the connection I had. This book spoke to me and my people.

9. Amazing, beautiful, and relatable - I enjoyed this book, the author is brilliant. It sure was a page turner, I was hooked. When readying what Julia went through with her mom, I felt all that. I was able to relate found myself speechless, I truly can’t completely a proper sentence because this book was excellent, it truly leaves you without words.

10. Soul-churning - This novel elicits profound emotions deep within the soul and it perfectly exemplifies the trying process of making a life when coming from nothing or worse. It was beautiful. Many growing girls - I’m sure - can agree that all of the topics this story touched on were relevant to personal feelings and though it displays the narrator undergoing trials and tribulations, it was almost an empowering awakening to the struggling mind. I really appreciate this author’s style.

All Mexican daughters don’t speak Spanish - Hmm...everyone speaks Spanish and English but no speaks or identifies with any of the indigenous languages or customs still spoken by many, including some of our grandparents. Just so you know all Mexican daughters don’t speak just Spanish but apparently this book makes you believe that all Mexicans only speak Spanish and English.

13. Idk - As an actual Mexican immigrant, I relate to this but also some stuff is very inaccurate. Correction: The traditional th birthday party isn’t called a “quinceañera” It’s called “fiesta de quince años” and the “quinceañera” is the girl who’s turning . Also the portrayal of the Catholic Church is very inaccurate based on my experiences. But some of it is still very relatable. I guess we all have different experiences :)

14. A breath of fresh air and a walk down memory lane - This book was fantastic!! I really enjoyed it. It reminded me of The Brief and Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao by Junot Diaz but with a female protagonist. Way to go. This is the kind of books we need out right now. There are so many girls and women that will be able to relate to this book. Beautifully written. Will need to tell everyone about this book!!!

15. Great book!! - Whenever I’ve read YA books I’ve identified with details due to my own experiences in school, relationships, and life. However, this book allowed me to say “my tías are chismosas too!” or sympathize with they way immigrant parents worry and can’t comprehend the culture we are being raised in. There are so many things throughout the book that reminded me of my own life, or that of my family and friends. I wish there were more books like this that talked about real issues that are relevant to us as not only because of our age but culture as well!

1. Inspiring - As a child reading this book for a school assignment, I have been arguing with my family about this since the death of George Floyd. I just finished this book and it really made me cry. I’m definitely sharing this with my younger siblings because it it important for them to know the struggles of America. Immigrants come from all over the globe to make a “better life” in America. It’s called the “American dream.” Then when they are here they are discriminated against. I feel strongly for this subject.

1. Nice - I have read many of Lisi Harrison's books, but one day I was scrolling through a list of books for Ibooks. My credit was . and the normal series of the Clique was way more money so, I searched for about an hour and then came across The Clique Summer Edition. I figured I should give it a try. As a tween myself I would see myself going through the problems Massie Block is having in this story. I would recommend this for - year olds. I would not give it a five star rating because when Massie explains the list of INS AND OUTS I was kind of confused the way the layout was and there were some spelling typos that a first grader can fix and spot but other than that I love it

1. Oh. My. Goodness! - Let me just start by saying that my plan today was to clean my house- not read an ENTIRE book! I read some of the other reviews and let’s just say I don’t think the people that have the and star ratings even read the book! Huntley is back in full BA force from beginning to end of this book. The twists and turns have you thinking you may know what going to happen only to realize you’re completely wrong. I love getting to know more about some of the other characters in this book- especially Peter. And the twist at the end- WOW!!! My jaw literally dropped! 2. Keeps getting better! - Amazing!!! What more can I say?! Well let me start of with Huntley! I just love her kickass attitude and perseverance! This book throws more twist and turns at her. I love Lorenzo!! He says and does some things that make my heart melt! I just hope he doesn’t break my heart I mean Huntley’s heart The Dauntless picks up right where the Valiant left off. Talk about that cliffhanger that you finally get to read. Things keep getting thrown at Huntley about her past and her missions and this just keeps getting more intriguing! This series just keeps on getting better and better. Jillian never ceases to amaze me because just when I think she can’t make the story better she does! Now I’m just patiently waiting for the next book!

3. I couldn’t put it down... - The details of the this series is amazing!!!! You really feel like you see what Huntley sees and feels along with getting caught up in solving the mission. This is definitely a series for someone that loves investigating, puzzle solving and mysteries. After reading The Valiant, I reread all the books and started a list of the all the characters we meet and how they are connected. I feel like Huntley, trying to pull all the pieces together, figure out who the players are and what’s going to happen. It’s definitely going to be hard waiting for The Phoenix!

4. Holy MOLY!! - And just like that....we’ve been completely thrown again. Wow. Wow. Wow. I don’t really know if I can even say anything. This installment of the series is not only crazy intense, it’s a page turner. It’s full of emotions, but also suspense. I’m blown away. But then again, I’m always quite blown away by the stories JD writes. She is brilliant. The Dauntless KILLED it. IMO this is the BEST book of the series, yet. I didn't know what to expect with this series, but I am so in love with it. Huntley is such a BA, and the lengths she goes to get to the bottom of everything makes me love her so so much. She is fighter, but she is also a lover. Her growth from The Prince to The Dauntless, is HUGE. With each book her tenacity grows more and more. She does not give up, even when she gets knocked down (and we know that happens A LOT). If you’ve been waiting on pins and needles for this release, you should know it will keep you on your toes. It’s a brilliant masterpiece. Each page leaves you wanting more. It leaves you constantly guessing and then second guessing yourself. I love the twists and turns, but I also feel like Author Jillian Dodd leaves us little Easter Eggs too. Which means you need to go through each of these books with a fine toothed comb, to catch all of the little surprises she leaves us. Gosh, I love this series so much.

8. Trust No One! - Eeeekkk so excited to finally read this book! Jillian has created the best spy series. 9. The Dauntless - This is book in The Spy Girl series. Must be read in order to fully enjoy the story. This story picks up where book ends which will have you in tears but as days go by you see that things happen for a reason and she needed this time for discovery and to work things out. Along the way she grows as a person and you learn more of the mystery of her past. Jillian takes you on another suspenseful ride and leaves you guessing along the way to a shocking surprise ending. I so can’t wait for the next book.

Characters boring plot - The protagonist was unbearable, she only cared about finding the truth of her father’s whereabouts and how she felt, not a single about others until she knew her actions caused a great ordeal. Personally I felt as if she was a very selfish character and the plot was boring to say the least, it took me months to get through half of the book.

8. Ren x Lina - Oml.. this is absolutely...the best book I have ever read. In. My. Life. Ren is absolutely ADORABLE. You fall in love with him as soon as you meet him. But thing I love.. is REN AND LINA TOGETHER. They are so flipping cute I was literally yelling out loud every time Ren and Lina would have a moment. This book is just beautiful in general. It left me with my jaw in the floor. It has so much drama, and heart and the romance is of the charts. But my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE PART... is the ending. IT WAS SO FLIPPING CUTE. 3. Loved it, as usual. - Naturally, I'm in love with all of The Clique series books I've read so far. I love the subtle details of their outfits, the witty comebacks, and realistic drama. I read the book in two days, which is normal for only -something pages, but the suspense is really page-turning anyway. This volume was pleasingly scandalous, LOL-worthy, and surprisingly addicting. I just wish they had explained why Kristin had to be scalped... Off to buy Volume V!

5. A book that is worth reading - I read this book in seventh grade. I could not put it down and while I read the book, I kept trying to tell myself that these characters are fictional!- but it can happen to someone in real life- so this book really impacted my life about drinking and driving/ driving with people who are under the influence. This book is very realistic and deals with normal teen things, like depression, girl troubles, and other things. 1. Really heartwarming - This book was so so so good. After I finished reading it, the last line really stuck in my head. I loved the culture of Darius’ family and how he learned to integrate himself into it. There is a line in Farsi that translates to “ your place was empty” meaning that it was waiting for Darius when he came to Yazd. With the family events and Darius’ depression, this book really tugged at my heart. It was amazing to see Darius find his place in his family and a friend to help him do it. Really good job Mr. Abid! I look forward to more books from you.

1. Loved every word - I am thankful to the author for sharing with us his experience as a refugee. The frightening escape from Iran and eventually their time in Italy painted a picture for me of what some of my students might have endured. I’m sure that most Americans have no way to imagine that experience. Daniel reminds me of many of my newcomer students from over the years. Their hopeful patience and their willingness and desire to assimilate, to become young Americans, while still celebrating their own culture is what I see in my students. I wish more of my countrymen could read this book and find some appreciation instead of condemnation. Definitely a great read!

1. Read as a school book for th gradw - I was not too interested in the book myself, but it gave me the feeling that I needed to know what happened. I ended up reading ahead to get over with the book and I’d say it’s worth it. The strong topics hit home a lot. The topics of things like rape were touched on, but handled with care and not insulted. The book was perfect for class, and helped every one learn a bit more about their county, most/all students come from the D.R.

2. Stone could’ve gave a little more. - I loved the overall message that was portrayed through out the storyline but, I wish stone would’ve dove deeper. We don’t know much about the Justyce so, the book started to get boring but, I finished it anyway. I’m going to read Dear Justyce to see if that better.

3. This needs to be made into a movie! - Five VERY WELL DESERVED STARS! This book was phenomenal. Just phenomenal. Not only was the writing sooo good, the plot was the most original one I've read in a LONG while. The messages and gems throughout the book are some that will stay with me for a long, long time...maybe even forever. I cannot wait to read another Nic Stone book! Also, we need this book adapted into a movie ASAP!

4. It was ok - I guess my expectations were way too high but I really did not care for this book. Subject matter was great but the way it was executed was very confusing. I could not connect with the main character at all. I read this book in a matter of hours and I still cannot tell you much about him. He supposedly had a girlfriend at first but apparently they broke up and we don't see how or when. He just happened to mention it in his journal. We don't really get a solution to the problems he was having with his mother. It just seemed so rushed. Like I said, the subject matter was great, but I wish it was a little more detailed and polished.

1. Disappointing - This book is highly superficial. The characters have no depth, the plot is far too repetitive throughout the series, and it is just generally poorly written. I was extremely disappointed, this book seems to glorify stereotypes and promote hierarchies and bullying amongst girls. It paints tween and teen girls in a terrible light. Just plain awful.

2. Love it! - I've read all of the books, and the best one is the first one. It started the phenomenon that is the Clique series. I love the books and am looking forward to the last one. It'll be hard to let the series go, but I'm looking forward to the future books by Lisi Harrison! She is truly a wonderful author. She knows how to connect with teenage girls and keep them reading. She's kept me reading for the last years. I love these books! :)

3. The clique. - I watched the movie a ton, and I absolutely loved it... And then I read the book and the book was so much better! There were a lot of different things, but the book was defiantly more vivid and it explained things a lot better. Basically, watch the movie, and then read the book that way u won't be disappointed. :) enjoy!

1. Wowerful!! - As always, JD continues to blow my mind. Her artistic ability to write such in depth suspenseful scenes, ignites a passion within. I have to say, with each of these releases, in this series, every book delivers much more than the last. The Valiant is no different. It is a fast paced game of cat and mouse, with the mix of the swoons and the feels. I need to gush about my love for Huntley. She shows no sign of devastation, yet she has had her fair share of it. She masks her pain, her worries, and her passion for her job (well to some degree, you'll understand if you follow this series). Again, Huntley shows that she will not stop. She is a go getter and will do anything in her power to end up on top. Even if she gets injured. I was blown away with her this book. I swear, she doesn't stop. Her love for her Ari, is constant. As much as she was trained to work alone, she has learned to keep him at her side. They have this wonderful relationship, even though things are at odds in Montrovia, and well....just about everywhere else. Basically The Valiant prepares us for everything that is coming. It starts right where The Society ended. It's chock-full of excitement; from craziness to swooniness. I can't wait for The Dauntless. I see BIG THINGS coming. JD has been prepping us since Spy Girl. And to be honest, I CANNOT WAIT. I think she is going to rock our world, in the coming books. Each book has given us clues of what to expect. However, each clue thus far has been intricately woven into the stories. You think you know something, but at the next turn you don't. If you are new to this series, start with Spy Girl. 2. Another good one - Every time I pick a Jillian Dodd book up I know it's going to be a good one. This Spy Girl series might bump out my boy Phillip for my fave of hers by the time this is all over and I do not say that lightly. Phillip has had my heart since day . This series has so many moving parts I am in awe that Jillian can keep them all straight. Not to mention the history she has woven into this story to make it what it is. I can only imagine the notes upon notes she must have to keep this story flowing the way it does. more books and so much still to learn. At the end of this book I worried a bit that everything we still need to learn would fit in books but I know Jillian and I know her writing so in the end I am confident everything will work out exactly the way it's supposed to. Like I've said in previous reviews, the Spy Girl series is a classic Jillian Dodd series but maybe a little more fun this time around. She knows how to pull you in and keep you hooked although hooked may not be the right word for how I feel about this one. I can't wait to see where the rest of this adventure takes us.

4. The Valiant - This book was another really good read. I did have some trouble remembering what all happened in the previous books but once I remembered it was an amazing journey! I love Huntley and Lorenzo. I love watching them together. They have such an amazing connection!! Lorenzo is the perfect gentleman! We need more men like him in this world!! I cannot wait to see what happens next! I really wish there wasn’t such a long wait between books because it’s hard to remember everything that happens in the previous books when you’ve read so many between them.

1. Amazing book - This is an amazing book and a great finish to the amazing hazel wood high trilogy. Sharon M. Draper is now one of my most favorite authors. She pulls you into a book within the first couple of chapters and the books just get better from there on. I am about to start reading the book The Battle for Jericho I know it will be a good book because Sharon M. Draper is a great author and I cannot wait until she comes out with another series of books like the hazel wood high trilogy. I never really read a lot until someone told me I HAD to read the book Tears of a Tiger so I read it and I fell in love with the book, the trilogy, and the author. I highly recommend that all middle schoolers and high schoolers who don't read a lot try the hazel wood high trilogy and I can almost guarantee that you too will fall in love with the trilogy and the author Sharon M. 1. A Relevant Retelling! - I loved this story. While there were multiple elements of Pride and Prejudice, I enjoyed the modern twist that brought up very important issues. Our experiences and circumstances shape us in a way, whether we are trying to fit into our environment or trying to purposely stand apart from it. While we may share parts of our cultural identity with others, that doesn't always make us the same. This book took on thoughts around cultural identity, socioeconomic status, and what we think it means to be black, rich, etc. How we judge whether someone is enough, or whether they meet our standard of a cultural identity. There is also this underlying idea of accepting and being proud of who you are, but also not being afraid of change that is inevitable. Another topic I thought was beautifully handdled was the many facets of gentrification. This is a real and relevant issue, because many of us disregard what is different, or history that may not include us, yet is still so important. We tend to just want to improve things the way we think they should be improved (which is not always the best for everyone else). Which leads me to one of my favorite parts of this book, the family dynamics of the Benitez's. They celebrate their culture identity, and the history of their neighborhood. They treat neighbors as family, and truly care about others. They support each other in such a beautiful way. Honestly, the connection is just inspiring. I would definitely recommend this book!
