1. Lawrence in Arabia - I have never read a book with so many mind boggling stories detailing so many unbelievably bad decisions and bad actors. The Middle East while probably still with its many miseries would have been a far better place than it is today. The sins of British and French Colonialism lives on to this day. An absolute must read.

1. Great book - I read the book Trains to Treblinka and it was so hard to read about this place, due to the horrible things that happened here. The author survived the trains only to escape and wrote this to let you know what he went through. All the death that these poor people went through I'm glad that there are survivors to tell the world what they went through. God bless all the survivors and all those lost. Never forget.

1. One of the best in it's genre. - Candid, insightful, daring, opinionated. Traits many would ascribe to the stereotypic Israeli Sabra. So is Shavit's account in "The Promised Land".
In spite of being a personal perspective on a complex subject, the book relies on data that many holding opposing views could agree with it's message. A must-read for all those interested in events evolving between Israelis and Palestinians. The book reads easily and the content illuminates many of the dark corners in the conflict.

2. My Promised Land by Ary Shavit - A remarkable open and informative piece of work. Shavit held my interest and opened my eyes to alternative perspectives often slanted either as pro or con Israel. I admire his grasp of his own views balanced with those who oppose today’s quagmire of politics and special interest groups. He has achieved a well written story that should be read by every vested interest in the Middle East.

3. My promised land - An incredibly well researched narrative spanning Israel's formative years through the very recent days. Though some left leaning spinning is evidently woven in, the reader travels through the personal stories of interviewees of Israel's extremely unique experience. A fascinating story extremely well told. A fast read and a real page turner. A must read!

4. Mixed emotions - I loved this book! I hated this book! This book made me extremely proud of my Jewish heritage! This book made me morally ashamed! This book filled me with joy and hope! This book made me extremely sad and quite despondent! This book made me love Israel more than ever! This book made me detest much of what Israel stands for! This book made me hopeful for Israel's future! This book made me fearful of its demise! This book instilled in me a new respect for Arabs and Palestinians! This book made me fear them more! This book made me more proud of my country the USA. This book increased my concern and detest of many of its policies and directions! Everyone should read this book! I loved this book! Jerry Chervitz

5. A Book That Needs To Be Read - This book is a connect the dots of a life filled with love, passion, frustration and resignation in my relationship with the dream and reality of Israel as a diaspora North American Jewish boy turned to grown man. Shavit brilliantly weaves every feeling I have into a journey that has reconnected me with a place so important central and critical to my life as a Jew, a former but forever Zionist, and most of all a believer in the dream that was, and is, the State of Israel. I could not put it down, and now that I have finished it will pass along to anyone willing to listen that the dream may still be real.

6. My Promised Land - As a non-Jew who has visited Israel many times, I found this book insightful and helpful in better understanding the country and it's people. The author's love of his country, as well as his despair
over its uncertain future, are evident and understandable. Israel needs the US and the US needs Israel. As troubles mount in the Middle East, it's crucial to both countries, and to world peace, for our leaders to work hand in hand to confront those who are common enemies.

1. Man in the white sharkskin suit - Having lived in Cairo during the 's I found the descriptions of the city and it's inhabitants wonderfully described. Groppi was one of my favorite places.
The descriptions of coming to America and the struggles of people trying to fit in could not have been more real.

1. No Way Out: A straight-forward but unsatisfying narrative - While No Way Out presents its facts and story in a clear, straight-forward manner, it lacked the powerful emotional appeal I have experienced in similar war/battle narratives on the War on Terror. Achieving its goal of telling the 'true' story and what 'really happened' during Operation Commando Wrath, it did so in a relatively unmoving and elementary manner. The writing style seemed overly simplified and undecorated, often with awkward sentencing, and what appeared to be some syntax and punctuational errors. The few attempts made at inspiring an emotional response in the reader were relatively weak and ineffective; rather, the book has a matter-of-fact style and tone that left me unsatisfied. I felt little-to-no connection with any of the characters, something I crave in a book. The book was informative and educational if that is strictly what you are looking for; in that sense a reader will not be disappointed. If you are looking for a book with no blatant political agenda, however, this is not the book for you. Not only are the political tones obvious throughout without being stated, the author/s felt the need to explicitly state it in the final pages of the book, which utterly killed it for me. If I am looking to solely read and learn about the war, I do not want to read nor do I care about the authors' views/opinions on the war. Simply present the facts and allow readers to draw their own conclusions and form their own opinions.

2. A Must Read - I never read books because I think there boring. This def struck my interest and I couldn't put it down. I caught myself at work reading instead of working. I salute all the military people that put there lives in harms way to make the U.S. a better place for us. Thank you for writing this book!

1. On Saudia Arabia - Very thoughtful and well researched book which will inform anyone who seeks insights into a part of the world still captivated by outdated repressive thinking. I especially appreciate that a foreign woman could so skillfully negotiate the closed and cloistered passageways of this feudally oriented society. Indeed well done. Hopefully a long awaited and much needed rennaissance of rational thought will free them from their present course towards rebellion and self destruction.

1. Excellent recap of a significant part of Jewish history - I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the detail the author talk for each character. I did not know the Jewish parade existed and was really glad I took the time to read this book. Everyone with an interest in Israel and the Jewish people should read this book.

1. Lelsley Hazleton - Reading this work is my initial foray into Ms Hazleton's great writing prowess. What a delight! I cannot speak to the reliability of her research however she details her research articulately, copiously, believably. Ms Hazleton's work is imbued with a centered and grounded quality of character that is at once beauty and integrity; this can only belong to the author herself. What a boon for other readers and me to experience this and the gravitas of this staggeringly and profoundly great writer and author. "After the Prophet" (sorry, no italic on this device) is a brilliantly beautiful read. I could not put it down. I have never read a style quite like Ms Hazleton's nor have I read of her subject matter, of which I have a keen interest. I love how she writes! Anyone who has an interest in the Near and Middle East will be well compensated by reading Ms Hazleton's work. If you simply love great writing you will do well by reading Ms Hazleton. I bought and began her book: "Jezebel" and will read all that I can find of hers.

1. HARD TO READ....HARDER TO BELIEVE.... - Very compelling and a must read book for everyone including the non-believers....
Where was God?
I can barely get through the hour fasting at the Yom Kippur Holiday...
I do not think I could of survived..
How anyone survived is not a miracle, it's a testament to the courage and the tremendous will of people to endure and deliver testimony to the world that human beings can be the cruelest of all animals....
