2. ....all time favorite album from Bob!! - This is one, if not my most favorite and important Dylan album that ever came out, at least for me! It came out at a time in my life when it was my senior year of high school, I was in love with the girl of my dreams, my high school sweetheart, and life was great! This album was on repeat for a long time, and through the years has always been there like an old friend. A lot has changed in my life, but every time I put this album back on it takes me right back to a time when life was perfect, and simple it seems. The highlight was seeing Bob do these songs live! Thanks Bob for an album which is still number one with me, still reminds me of Loretta, still the love of my life, and still reminds me of times of laughter and love!

3. Modern Day Shakespeare set to music - Dear friends introduced me to this particular album which I pretty much learned every word to each song and it became a favorite of mine and my husband Jeff. The friends who turned me onto this album were Lee and Pam Jordan. Good times, good times, and fond memories. Thank you

4. Blood on the Tracks - Undoubtedly my most favorite Dylan album. Every song is a home run, Dylan has created music gold with these songs. Its a painful beautiful experience, the raw emotions just find a way to get to you. If You See Her, Say Hello is probably my most favorite. Absolutely amazing. Rarely would I ever recommend getting an entire album but this is it!
2015-06-23
5. Timeless - It’s too hard to comprehend that this album was recorded years ago. Only the twangy quality of Dylan’s voice alludes to that. The entire album retains all the uniqueness and musical relevance that it was born with; its melody, rhyme, rhythm and lyrical content sound neither stale nor fresh, old nor new, dated nor contemporary. “Blood on the Tracks” has transcended timeliness to become truly timeless.

6. perfect - ‘perfect’ - a word dylan himself would probably despise….but it’s the best word i know to describe this music in all it’s joy, and pain, and anger, honesty, and humor - life; in all its imperfect humanity. hard as it is to choose a ‘favorite’ dylan album - this one comes closest for me. simply couldn’t imagine life without it.

7. One of the Top Ten Albums of All Time - The claim "One of the Top Ten Albums of All Time" has been made often, but this album is one that deserves that claim. I listen to multitudes of genres, and I have yet to find many albums that can match this one. The amount of pure emotion and honesty that permeate these tracks is stunning. They range from bitterness (Idiot Wind) to sorrow (Simple Twist of Fate) to regret (Your A Big Girl Now). Perhaps it's finest moment is Shelter From the Storm, which goes from thankfulness and appreciation to confusion and sadness. A true masterpiece.

8. What an album! - This is my favourite Dylan album. I love 'Highway ', 'Blonde on Blonde' and many others from the 's 's 's (yes, he had some real gems in the 's too - check out Infidels), but Blood on the Tracks was always my favourite. I believe this is his most personal album and I always liked his personal songs more than the 'social' ones. I also think that as a singer he was brilliant all throughout the 's.
If you haven't purchased it yet, you should!

9. Shelter from the storm - Shelter from the storm, one of my favorite songs of all time, really does not get enough recognition. It's lyrics are fantastically written, powerful, story-telling, and my favorite song lyrics ever. This song is amazing and moving, with a great tune, and you can tell he is a really passionate and emotional singer.
2013-01-06
10. Dylan - As all of use post divorce folks can attest, this album is somewhat difficult to listen to. But therein lies the beauty of it: you are entertained because your pain is validated. Art from sorrow has never been exhibited quite like this. Yes, we all know Dylan's gems from his s albums. But, musically, this album is more consistent and contains at least great songs. There are some really good melodies here as well - which we don't usually associate with Dylan the poet. Be warned. You may not appreciate this album until you are years old. I know I didn't.
2012-12-19
11. Like a brilliant shooting star - After the 's, Dylan's star faded just a little. Let's face it, no human can be ground-breakingly brilliant for very long - though his transformation from ' to ' was stunning, truly original and prolific work. Then in ', he released Blood on the Tracks, and everyone said, my God, he's back on top, doing it again! But he never, in my view, again matched the greatness of the Blood on the Tracks album - many later, wonderful individual songs notwithstanding. If you have one ounce of folk music in your soul, if you've ever felt the pain of lost love - and who hasn't? Then this highly personal album will strike a chord with you in a way many of his 's songs could not. Simple Twist of Fate, Shelter From the Storm, and Tangled Up in Blue are towering masterpieces, but the whole album is great. Highly recommended.

12. a GREAT album! - Definitely one of the top ten of all time! Dylan at his best. Maybe because he is honest, and not pretentious. Maybe because his songs are just that ...songs, not anthems or political, mysterious, whats he saying diatribes. If You See Her Say Hello is a gorgeous piece of work. Tangled up in Blue is a fantastic opener.....mid tempo...lots of images....and sung well. Which is another point...Dylans singing is better here than on any other record he's done. This is truly an album that has stood the test of time! The long songs dont feel long....they are jsut great stories! My only quibble....is a minor one.....that the live version of Shelter from the Storm o n Hard Rain is better than the one found here. Buy this album and listen....you wont regret it.
2012-02-24
13. Song for song, Dylan's best. - Just a masterpiece. "Say Hello" has the best lyrics I've ever heard and "Idiot Wind" has Dylan at his angriest and the last minute of the song is the best piece of music ever (the harmonica solo and the church organ). Just perfect..."Twist of Fate", "Shelter", "Make Me Lonesome", etc... Certainly one of the best albums ever made.

14. my favorite dylan album - i even like this album better than blonde on blonde...I first heard it on my dads record player..The album flows nicely and thier is not even song u would want to skip..ive heard this album times so ill rate and review each song. Tangled up in Blue-/ classic bob dylan song with great lyrics..
Simple Twist of Fate / great song Your A Big girl now / great lyrics and the rhyming is incredible..This song will not dissapoint.sets the mood for the rest of the album.
Idiot Wind / best song on the album, great organ and the lyrics/poetry is incredible..its a really long song, and ive heard it a million times
Lonesome when u go- / great song The whole album is amazing get this album at a cd store or a record store, sit down with a beer or a cup of coffee, turn the volume up and enjoy .

15. An Epic Masterpiece - Blood On The Tracks is one of the unquestionably great albums of the 's. It is likely one of the top albums in the history of rock. If you don't own it, you need to. It never gets old. It has no weak songs and the magic of the storytelling is unparalleled. If this was the only thing he ever did, Dylan would stand as one of the great songwriters in all of rock. Given his entire body of work, these songs are among his very best. This is an astonishing journey and this is music you will never ever let go of.
2011-10-21
16. Get Album ! - One of Dylan's best. If you can, find the New York Sessions of Blood on the Tracks. They have the original recordings of a lot of the songs, raw, raw cuts. Hear NY sessions and you'll understand why Dylan thought this album was hard to "enjoy". Lily Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts seems kind of misplaced. If you like Blood on the Tracks get Sara from Dylan's next album Desire (if you don't get the whole album).
2011-01-12
17. The Divorce Album - This is one of two great divorce albums, the other being Willie Nelson's Phases and Stages. Although Lily, Rosemary and the Jack of Hearts seems a tad out of sync with the other songs, these expressions capture the wide range of emotions and thoughts everyone experiences during a separation. Simple Twist of Fate has absorbing imagery. Idiot Wiind is as angry as one can get while retaining a pensive quality. If You See Her, Say Hello is tender and lovely. This is one album that should be purchased as an album.

1. Song From Half Mountain - Maybe its because I'm a singer/songwriter, but I go along with my chores and my day with this album in the back ground until Song From Half Mountain begins. Then I stop what ever I'm doing and listen. The poetry is Burns or Browning-esque; the guitars sparkle in a melancholy way while the production stays out of the way. It lulls you into that place you tried to forget a long time ago, it recounts some distant pain, with the now found satisfaction of having moved past it. The genius of this album is that it follows this track with Morning Sky. From "I'm sad you left" to, "I'm glad you're leaving." Wow. Great work. Not to be missed or forgotten.

2. Classic - From the title track Souvenirs to Morning Sky,Fogelberg could rope you in and keep you wanting more with this classic album.Just coming into his own, Souvenirs was a small taste of gems yet to come on albums like The Innocent Age and Windows and Walls. Timeless and beautiful just like the artist who created this album, no one could express or capture the human experience quite like Fogelberg. Thankfully, his music lives on. Rest in peace.

3. beautiful nostalgia - Like many other reviews this is an album from my past, and in listening to it again it brought back so many memories. You know how you can not hear an album for a long time and then you hear it again and you know every single word to every single song and you wonder why you forgot you didn't have it. (that makes sense right). Well I did not have this in my collection and I have remedied that. This album is timeless and works well today. Dan Fogelberg was a great singer/songwriter and has influenced many of the younger musicians out there. And i had such a crush on him, as shallow as it sounds, I thought he was such a good looking man, he was as beautiful as his music. I highly recommend this album!

4. Had to have it - I was out driving one night in , when I heard "Someone's Been Telling You Stories" on an Los Angeles FM station (probably KLOS). I was so moved by the intensity that I hunted around until I found an open record store and bought the -Track immediately. Turned out to be one of my favorite albums ever. Fogelberg's music was never half-baked - always full out.

5. The Truest of Artist - DF was one of the greatest if not the greatest singer/song writer of all times. Through his songs you can almost touch and see what he is singing. He was truly a painter through his ballads. His songs are meant to be listened to out under the star lit sky with the one you love.
2010-04-22
6. One of the greatest albums of all time - My dad introduced this album to me when i was about years old and I instantly fell in love. I have listened to it countless times and have never gotten tired of it. Anybody who is reading this review should buy this album. Even though it came out years ago, I would still have to say it is my personal favorite and blows any music out of the water that is produced today.

7. So much to enjoy! - Part of the Plan, Better Change, Song from Half Mountain, Someone's... wow songs. Good melodies. His voice will mesmerize you. And the melodies were WAY ahead of their time. For trance fans, he has some riffs which fascinate you. I cannot believe his music hasn't been incorporated into more love stories. It is wonderful.
2009-08-16
8. Timeless music - I guess the fact that I have owned this album for the last years and still enjoy it every time I hear it says about all you need to know. While I have tired of alot of the 's music, I am still taken by the depth of this album. It has aged extremely well. I say you'll want the whole thing...it's one of those albums that is best enjoyed by listening to it in it's entirety.

9. A Master - "There is a Place in the World for a Gambler", Dan Fogelberg gambled on his insightful lyrics and composed melodies during a time when music mainstream had shifted form this. His gamble provided years of great music. This album is a must as it truly began to show the maturing as an artist and his greatness as a writter of both the music and the lyrics.

10. owning this is a souvenir!! - I truely cannot express how much Dan's music has meant to me in my life. His lyrics are a true work of art, as is his musical talent. He will be truely missed. Iam so sorry that he has left this world, maybe it was part of the plan....either way I feel he had more to share. I will consider myself blessed to have been part of an era that could appreciate his talents. I think his work is timeless, as is he in my heart. You will be missed' your musical abilities for generations to come to appreciate!!!!

11. There's A Place In The World For Dan - Believe it or not, I bought this album the Saturday right before Dan passed on. I was at the local record store and I was trying to decide between Boston's debut album or souvenirs/home free. I went with the latter and I have enjoyed getting lost in his beautiful music ever since. I was so surprised to hear of his death when I had just bought a few of his albums. Along with artists like Paul Simon, Graham Nash, and others, Dan Fogelberg is one of those guys that can translate his ideas and feelings into songs perfectly. This album is filled with songs to live by. Rest in Peace Dan, and thanks for all the beautiful music you've left us with.

12. Let it Shine - If you're not a Fogelberg fan...you need to hear this album, yes I still have it. Of course Part of the Plan will get you moving but from beginning to end it's a masterpiece of musical independence. That, I believe, is Fogelberg's trademark. He created what he wanted to...not what the pop-charts wanted. This is the reason so many of us faithful Fogelberg followers loved him. He was the Leader of the Band and will be missed at a profound level that few musicians will even think about approaching.

13. It was all part of the plan - I was studying (ok maybe not studying) in Rome in during College and had no music. My brother mailed me a handful of -tracks (remember them) and Souvenirs was one of them. It was like being on a desert island with a handul of albums and this one got worn out. As with many of his fans, his music defined our College years and brought some sanity to some frenetic times. This is a timeless LP. if you are new to DF--start here and then continue to Captuerd Angel and Home Free. Long live the life and times of Mr. Fogelberg.

14. Farewell to a Master - All the happiness this album has brought to me over the years came to a sad halt when I learned of Dan's death. After a day of reflection and sadness, I downloaded it and listened to it again in a more focused frame of mind. Happiness returned as each song just blends beautifully from one to the next. This album is a true, vastly underrated, classic! I will greatly miss Dan, but hopefully by his passing, more people will become aware of what a Great Artist he was. The voice of an Angel is now in Heaven to hopefully greet us all when our time is up.

15. Can't believe it's been so long... - since I first saw him in concert. In , he came to U. of Oregon to play at MacArthur Court. My roommate was from Illinois, and persuaded me to come see Dan Fogelberg play. I talked to him yesterday, and relived the concert...and I thanked him for dragging me to that concert. Fogelberg's music still sounds as good today, as it did years ago.

16. Definitive 's... - This one belongs in everyone's collection. Although Dan was best known for his later, more orchestrated works, "Souvenirs" provides us with the full breadth of his talent. The thought provoking lyrics, the tight arrangements, and his mastery of keys, guitar and voice were never more evident than here. And Joe Walsh's production, guitar and keys add just the right edge in some places, and smoothness in others. Particularly touching are the tunes with just Dan and his guitar, namely "Changing Horses" and "Song From Half Mountain". This is one of those records I often reach for, sometimes from mere habit, but mostly because it never fails to touch my soul in the way that only an artist and their instrument can. And I can never listen to "Souvenirs" without reaching for my own guitar and picking along. I listened to it the day before we lost Dan and I'll be listening to it as long as I'm earthly bound.

17. A part of everyone's life - Dan was a part of my life - a part of my family - for a few short years. He dated my sister off and on, starting with Home Free () then Souvenirs, Captured Angel, Nether Lands, and on. He called her Maggie, but we knew her by a different name. They were married only briefly - from to . In his brief stay on this earth he has left us a lasting legacy. He will be missed.
2007-12-18
18. One of the Best - My favorite album and (blushing) my favorite poster. Dan's music got me though the good and the bad times from high school to present. Easy to listen to, inspiring and moving. His music and style never changed unlike so many of the singers and songwriters from the 's. My heart and prayers to family and friends who lost the physical presents of a great man, but will have a piece of him forever. Thanks for all the great music!!!
2007-12-17
19. Dan at his best - I think Souvenirs was Dan Fogelberg's best album and I'm a long time fan. Several of these songs have made me sob buckets over the years -- "Souvenirs" (the song) is the one that gets me the most, followed by "There's a Place in the World for a Gambler." They are wonderful poetry and always had the power to touch me deeply at various stages of my life. I was so sad today to hear he had died. In mourning, this was the first album I needed to download -- I had to hear it again as I remembered what his music had meant to me. Dan, you will be very missed by your fans.

20. "Love When You Can; Cry When You Have To!" - .."Be Who You Must; That's A Part Of The Plan!"..And the Music & Lyrics of Dan Fogelbreg were a good "Part Of The Plan" of 's Rock Radio! {Blessed with an angelic voice; Dan could play Guitar & Piano and also paint his own album covers!} On "Souvenirs"; Fogelberg surrounds himself with some heavy company and the results paid off handsomely! (Doesn't hurt to have the ringing slide guitar of future Eagle Joe Walsh in the Studio with you!) And the Songs & Melodies on "Souvenirs"; All Top-Notch! {Mining similar teritory as James Taylor, The Eagles, John Denver & Jackson Browne; This record panned up gold for Dan Fogelberg!} Which lands "Souvenirs" a spot on the "Sensitive Seventies Set" list!...by Grimmbo.

21. Souvenirs - This recording is still the best work of Dan. It is still appropriate today some years later. The best singles are Souvenirs, The Long way, and Part of the plan, but I think the best song here is There's a Place In the World for a Gambler. It has never been given it's full due. Check it out.

1. Different than Massey Hall - I've got to disagree with the guy who commented that the Massey Hall recording is somehow "better", that people should go with that album. This one is a lot more 'small club' intimate than Massey Hall, and Neil's playing brings this out. Imagine listening to these songs in a small club and you get the idea. These now classic songs were still new to both Neil and his audience, and the quiet energy of anticipation and excitement comes out in the recording. This is an incredible musical moment, and belongs to anyone's collection that has singer-songwriter music of this era.
2016-11-21
2. Been there - As someone who frequented the Cellar Door in Georgetown, I can tell you that this album brings shivers to me. If only I'd known about it earlier. The intimacy of this venue is, well amazing, and you can feel it here. Neil Young is on top of his form. Massey Hall doesn't come off as intimate as this one.
2016-05-22
3. Classic Performance - This is a bleak, guarded performance by Neil on this release. You catch him in a really cool mood. It feels like you're sitting in his living room by a fireplace, smoking drugs. You can really tell these songs are new to him and he plays them with solitude and a little reserve, but that's what makes it so great. Beautiful album.
2014-01-10
4. Great gift... - I heard samples of this collection today on the Howard Stern Show. Gary Dellabate gave this to his boss, Howard as an early birthday present. A perfect present.
Classic Neil. At $. each, if you purchase the entire songs, it's well worth it. The music, lyrics, and of course, Neil's ethereal vocals transport you to another place. I am blown away by the clarity of these recordings. Great gift, Baba Booey!

5. Go for Massey Hall instead - This sounds like a rehearsal for Massey Hall which was recorded a few months later. The sound is good but not as good as the other show, and I would say the same about the playing. As a guitarist I find the MH show to be far, far superior. Also, the guitar sounds slightly out of tune to me on several of these cuts. OK for the completist but you get most of these songs on Massey Hall and a better overall experience in my opinion. I'm actually somewhat surprised Neil released this.
2013-12-16
6. ...simply superb! - What can be said about Neil Young other than he has been, and still is an incredibly talented and outstanding artist. Whether an acoustic guitar, piano, or rocking out completely, it always seems perfect. Many of these songs I've heard before, but they always touch the heart and soul, and the memories they bring back are some of the best. Thanks Neil, and I look forward to whatever else is in the vault! Hey Lala, if your reading this thanks for the memories too.....

1. Another Cash Cow - The original Self Portrait's main fault--though it seems that no one has recognized this--was not that it was unlike previous Dylan albums. Its fault was that it was too unfocussed to seem like an artistic statement, and ultimately, it just seemed bewildering. And this second Self-Portrait collection is worse.

2. "Who's Gonna Throw That Minstrel Boy A Coin?" - .."Who's Gonna Let It Roll?"..Another Self Portrait comes at a propitious time in Bob Dylan's year career! "Americana" Music is back on the Charts: Mumford & Sons; Wilco and It's "Folk-Rock" again in ! ("Self Portrait" was savagely dismissed when it came out; As was "Dylan"; Another "Covers" Project)-"New Morning" was received quite warmly; And that disc remains a personal favorite!-Now new converts to Dylan; On these takes he really does SING!-(One pundit offered @ that this LP was Bob's "Homage To The King"{Elvis Presley})-Bob digs a little deeper into the well of American/British/Celtic Traditional Songs here; Sounding at times like Leadbelly or Bing Crosby! (These were happy; bucolic; Fatherly & Non-Smoking Years for Bob; And it shows!)-Dig these newly discovered tracks; And Much Praise to Al Kooper & David Bromberg; Who were there and know Bob's exacting work habits in the recording studio!…by Grimmbo.

3. Loved Self Portrait then - Love it More Now. - Amazing how much great material never made the original album. Another Self Portrait is Dylan, Al Kooper, Dave Bromberg and sometimes George Harrison making beautiful music together. Blame the bad reviews on the original SP on the producer who added strings, backup singers, etc... Stripped down... This is a great album and shows us who Bob was going to become in later years.....
2013-08-27
4. Without for you - These songs tell so much, his voice is full of story. And his voice is so strong. Like a minstrel, a troubadour. I am always amazed and humbled. I hope Mr. Dylan gives us some new music soon. I thing Tempest was such an honest piece of work and though I really love this offering - the bootlegs are such private jewels - I crave new tunes from this man. I catch Mr. Dylan in concert whenever he comes through the Midwest and all I can tell you is that after years he gives more joy and understanding through his music than anyone of my generation. It is always an honor. Thank you is inadequate but all I have.
2013-08-27
5. Some great music here. - I have long been an enthusiast/apologist for the original 'Self Portrait' and this great CD set shows me why. The tracks really hold up nicely and sound great. The revisionist approach to the package really shines this gem of a period. Bob was in great vocal form and the inclusion of the Isle of Wight set is another great addition. Highly recommended.

6. Mr. dylan try's to share - Most fans were waiting for new material from their prophet/poet back in . They were taken by surprise, the album did not get favorable reviews, some said it was his worst album to date at that time. I think they all misunderstood Mr. Dylan's intensions completely. Instead he just wanted to get back into the grove of making music again by sharing with us the music he loved past and present, by him and covering others that he admired and loved. This is a very intimate album, listen to it like you've been invited into the artist's living room to hear his favorite records and see him perhaps have a try at really entertaining you, just for fun. Go into it with that frame of mind and I think you'll enjoy and better understand your hero. I love it and will always, it gets played as often as any Dylan album in my collection.
2013-08-25
7. OK I haven't heard it but... - I'm just wondering why I have to buy the whole thing to listen to Dylan's Isle Of Wight gig (his first since his motorcycle accident) in its' entirety. Reaction was mixed at the time but George Harrison and Eric Clapton loved it and based some of their later work on it. However the original "Self Portrait" gained the first negative reviews of his career with Greil Marcus leading his Rolling Stone review with "What is this garbage?" (He didn't use the word "Garbage")

1. Playing it safe - I have been a huge fan of Ray's sound since 's 'Supernova'. Psychedelia fits his voice and sound perfectly. After the last albums have had such a sound, 'Monovision' decides to travel back to more folksy territory - which could have worked out really well. However, this album is somewhat of a letdown compared to his earlier work. The songs don't really have a shine to them. Standouts for me would be "Roll Me Mama, Roll Me" and "Weeping Willow". A good album for chilling to, but not much else.

2. Roots Ray. YES. - I am a little embarrassed to admit that I’ve only now just listened to the album, though I purchased it awhile ago. As a longtime fan who just hasn’t had the same feeling toward what Ray’s been making lately, I just wasn’t that excited to hear his newer stuff right now. Not really a criticism, just preference. Then I sat down today at my messy kitchen “desk” and started listening. Listening, LISTENING... and then I thanked the gods for bringing me medicine. I’m on track . This album HEALS MY WEARY SOUL.

3. Love this joyful/melancholic feeling ... as it is life. - Ray's music & lyrics embody the emotional range of the human condition. As a child of the 's, I adore Ray's music. yeah, sure I hear the musical influences of Ray's upbringing!... they and he are the best of the best. The "young" must also feel the beauty of "Monovision." I live on the Coast of Maine, it's a warm summer's day, and these extraordinary melodies fit perfectly.

4. T H I S is E V E R Y T H I N G - Wow Ray....you are amazing and this album is fantastic. I had to buy this after listening to you on the Writer’s Block on Sirius. Bravo! I missed the first half of the program, but I believe you said this entire album was created just by you. No mixers, nothing. You deserve a Grammy like Sturgill. There’s no doubt.
2020-07-10
5. Say it, don’t spray it - I was debating this with a friend after seeing Rocket Man again: What’s more important, the music or the lyrics? Would Elton John have been such a smash hit if Bernie Taupin weren’t writing for him? Ray Lamontagne‘s new album is a perfect example of this. He is absolutely at his best when his lyrics are just smashing you in the heart. Here, like his last few albums, there are a lot of lyrical misses. Just too straightforward and obvious. Don’t ever tell me that you feel down and out. Tell me a story instead. He’s simply “telling it” too much these days. That said, such a beautiful voice as always, and some sweet songs herein nonetheless.

6. We all need our own Journey... - This man is a musical genius who has been on his own musical journey, much respect to you Ray for taking that road most fear. Love the new album. This is not a welcome back, this is a thank you for sticking around and still blessing our ears and emotions with your journey and ours...

7. Well worth the wait. Bravo. - My favorite record of the year by far. Wonderful songs. A beautiful mix of uptempo toe tappers and atmospherics. Fantastic performances. Most importantly, not a political word or virtue signaling anywhere. This is an uplifting record about love and perseverance. A true breath of fresh air.

8. Well worth the wait! - It's all here! Ray's sensual voice, his rich, gorgeous lyrics, and those beautiul melodies, that just flow, oh so gently into our souls; like that sweet honey that we all crave. Can you tell that I love this man and his music? This is just one more of his albums to add to an ever-growing collection of perfection from Ray! Go find a quiet place, turn on this album, and just take it all in... enjoy. Then, go to Youtube to check out the videos for these songs. Ray's son Tobias is a budding videographer, and he has created some very artistic, beautifully made videos. Each of them accompany Ray's music perfectly. They make a great team. You won't be disappointed.

1. Love this album - I bought this a LONG time ago and still love it today. It's a beautiful story - the album. He takes you on this beautiful trek of heartache and love and beauty in all things and you get to just sit back, relax, listen and understand. It touches the heart, interrupts the soul and allows you to stop hiding in your own world and enter his. Beautiful accompaniment to every song. Invisible Man is the most wonderful song, in my mind. Jessie is perfect. Painted Desert Serenade couldn't hold more wonderment - it's just a great album. Not a single song is a misfire. I adore Joshua Kadison - and this record in particular.

1. Missing tape - Somebody game me this on cd for a xmas. Getting a new stero, I discover tape was missing, guessing in got left in old cd players. Does anybody know how I can get the missing cd. I don"t want to download the songs from ITune because of the cost and want to have the cd to put with others in the book that came with it.

2. Cosmic American Music - Sprawling literature exists regarding these legendary songs cut in the summer and fall of ’ in Woodstock and neighboring West Saugerties, NY. Collectively, these tunes that spawned such folklore and fascination hold up to the hype. Every song and every take (about /rds of which are originals) are treasures to behold. Even the “throw-aways” and mere song sketches are of interest here—the earthy, organic, Americana ethos of the combined songs creates something bigger than the music itself, making it infectious and quintessential listening. Most of the music was recorded (and sometimes re-recorded) on ” reel-to-reels in a basement not acoustically suited for such endeavors, allowing the tracks to adopt a certain natural lo-fi quality that some bands strive to emulate in present-day digital studios! But Bob Dylan and The band didn’t consciously set out to launch a new sonic or genre. Rather, they gathered to make music for the sheer love and fun of it, never intending the takes to be officially released. Despite this, or perhaps because of it, the environment allowed them the freedom and spontaneity to transcend beyond the strain of trying to create something good, and in the process haphazardly made something great. The unpretentious and ego-free environment invited a collective unity of very talented and inspired musicians to eclipse the sum of their parts to create what one could call “cosmic American music.”

3. Amazing. Sonically limited, but amazing. - This is a simply incredible collection. I’ve often described my favorite style of music as “folks sitting in a room, and the noises they make together” - and I don’t know if there is another recording that better fits this description. If you’ve loved Dylan and/or The Band, you NEED this set. You want the roots of Music From Big Pink and The Band? Here it is. Novices be warned, however, this was literally recorded in various rooms in houses in upstate New York, in , and that’s what it sounds like. Anyone expecting this to sound like Sgt. Pepper, or any modern recording, will be disappointed. These recordings were never meant to be commercially released, and despite being the highest possible fidelity, the sonics are definitely limited. Anyone who can get past that limitation, however, will be rewarded with some of the most magical moments ever committed to tape. If you’ve ever dreamed of being a fly on the wall for some of the most important sessions in American music history, your dream just came true.

4. “Yea; Heavy And A Bottle Of Bob!" - ..”When Quinn The Eskimo Gets Here”..Well; Fellow “Bobcats”; The massive Rosetta Stone of all Bootlegged Dylan is now legit and in my hands! (I went for the special -CD package at my fave Newbury Comics!) By now; Most of the World knows and has heard every tune on “The Basement Tapes” in a multitude of Cover versions. To finally be able to sit down & listen to Bobby & The Boys just “Woodshedding”; Priceless. (Kudos to all who did the remastering/repackaging of this magnum opus; Nice to dedicate this set to the departed members of The Band!)…by Grimmbo.

5. Peerless - This music has no true antecedent and is without equal. It exists beyond the reach of classification, a kingdom unto itself. Boundless and jubilant. A list of highlights would easily extend beyond a hundred tracks. [PS--The abridged "Raw" version collects the most listener-ready tracks, but it skips many, many essentials.]

1. Amazing !! - growing up in the sixtys I had the Stones, then UFO [the Schenker years] then a while before I found Anne Mccue, Scott Miller [ the Commonwealth] ,pieta brown and a handfull of others, when I heard Somewhere Else, I bought the entire lot of Lydias music. An amazing song writer, singer, and the band fits her like a , suit. highly would recommend any of her cds

2. Sounds like a Classic - because it is... - This is a pretty amazing effort… familiar hooks (in a good way), smart lyrics, solid vocal(s), tight instrumentals, perfectly polished arrangements (but not overly so)… Country Rock / Alt Country… guitars put it more rock than country - think Lucinda Williams, Wilco, Old s, Whiskeytown, Graham Parsons, Byrds, Eagles and Stones (the country stuff)… love these?? u will love it - get it now.

3. Glad to have Loveless back! - It's nice to hear a young girl with a full-bodied voice making great country-rock music. All of the other youngin's in the super-star world like Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Melissa Nadler, Lorde all have these "little girl" voices with no distinctive quality. I hope Lydia Loveless gets the attention she deserves. ...That is, if she wants it.
2014-02-24
4. Another great record from this artist! - The guitars seem to be more polished and "hooky" than on past records but that's a good thing. Lydia's in fine voice and the songs take a few listens to catch what they're about. That's also a good thing! Highly recommended if you like different sounding country rock.
2014-02-24
5. A Breath Of Fresh Air - I keep reading reviews saying Lydia sounds like this country singer or that rock singer, I like her because she doesn't remind me of anyone else. Her sound is fresh and new, she plays and sings with a passion most recording artists are still trying to find. Somewhere Else will sound great in your car this Summer! BUY IT!

1. Let it Fall! - OtR understands the bleaker melancholy side of Christmas which, in the end, makes for a more filling meal than the empty glitzy version sold by our consumer society. There's a quiet understated beauty in this album, a few tears shed, and hope for the coming year. And for long time OtR fans, a guest appearance by drummer Mickey Grimm which brought a smile to my face when I read the liner notes.

1. I Don't Do This Often - I don't like to give star reviews. Most artists aren't that worthy. This EP is better than most full length albums. Andy explores many different sounds. It's great to hear him with a full band (many of the instruments were performed by him though). The lyrics are sublime for the most part. The melodies are sweeping and full of emotion. The album ranges from joyous (Good Life) to angry (Fine China) and hits many of the other sublities in between. His rhythm and beats are dynamic and the music is never boring. Get this CD immediately and the next full length he's putting out.

2. Incredible - I too saw Andy Davis at the Dave Barnes concert and i have to say that i liked him just as much if not more than Dave Barnes. His music has a really good beat to it and you can tell the lyrics are thought out and actually mean something. By the way, he was amazing live. Very good artist.

3. feel good album - Andy Davis continues to produce music that just makes you smile and want to dance along. His voice is incredible; his intrumental abilities are amazing; his lyrics have the perfect amount of play on words; and his charm is wonderful! I fell in love with Andy's music from the start, and it has grown to be one of my absolute favorites! If you like acoustic music, this cd is a must have...well, it still is even if it's really not your thing!

1. Only For Superfans - I have been a Dylan fan pretty much my whole life and I will buy every officially released recording that he puts out. Having listened to this whole set, I do believe that this really is a set only for the superfans. It is interesting to listen to all the various takes of these Dylan classics, but I wouldn’t want to do it again. When I want to hear these songs, I’ll go back to the original released studio recordings or some of the great live versions. I won’t likely listen to this set again.
2015-11-12
2. Eh.... - I suppose I'll be the first to criticize. I'm not going to be in awe of this simply because it's / Dylan. I know it's more historical to some than entertaining, and that's fine. However, history doesn't make it worth listening to. I guess this essentially made me realize I'm not as big a Bob Dylan fan as I thought. I don't understand how people can be so mesmerized by the same stuff they've heard their entire lives with just slight differences. I mean...the songs are not even THAT different from the ones we've heard for decades. And they want $. for this? I'm sure behind all the transfixed faces of die-hard fans there is a sense of disappointment (they are refusing to express) wishing there was more new material rather than just the same old tunes.
2015-11-11
3. Interesting - Great to hear, and I suppose Dylan had to go through all the variations of these great songs to get to the best final versions. Most are fascinating, but lack the final drama of the released recordings. BTW: it stinks that "Sad Eyed" and "Desolation Row" cannot be bought individually. What is that about?
2015-11-08
4. Fascinating Time Capsule - If you want a single definitive recording of each song, then by all means stick with the original versions of these three classic Dylan albums. This release is an opportunity to witness the evolution of the songs as they were being created in the studio, with time signatures, tempo, lyrics and arrangements changing from take to take. Yes, you're getting multiple versions of "the same song," but that's the point and the privilege here. You get to be a fly on the wall in the studio as Dylan experiments and reworks the material on its way to becoming the final product that we know and love. If this sort of thing interests you, then fork over your hard earned money and enjoy a fascinating peek into Dylan's creative process. (And don't skimp and get the two disc version--it defeats the purpose by limiting the tracks and not allowing you to observe the changes and development of the works in progress, which is the whole point. If your budget permits, get the $ version and listen to absolutely everything he recorded during this timeframe.)

5. THE GREATEST RELEASE OF ZIMMERMAN's MUSICAL DEPTH, A MUST HAVE!! - I think this is the most fascinating release of Dylan's music ever. Talk about a feast, it's outtakes and alternate takes of all the greatest songs off his two best albums, Highway Revisited An Bringing It All Back Home. There are takes of Like a Rolling Stone, one of the greatest songs ever written. Take is an all acoustic guitar version six minutes long that captures and essence of the song that is only background music to the release version yet is so brilliant it's unbelievable. The next take is a jazzy version with Kioper laying out riffs on organ. I've only gotten a third of the way through this but I have to tell you, if you're Dylan fan you cannot be without this. It shows you what a musical genius he was besides being one of the greatest poetic minds of the century. By the big one, all songs. If you don't you will after listening to the "best of". I give this out of .

6. Buy the CD Deluxe Edition Box Set - If you’re a huge fan (like me) of this remarkable month spate of unforgettable music skip the virtual and get your hands on the box set. It features a slipcase containing a beautiful book of photos and thoughtfully designed CD album/booklet. A wonderful way to chronicle the creation of these three groundbreaking albums.

7. At the price, mostly for academics - The rest of us can manage with Blonde on Blonde. Instead of or outtakes from the same sessions, I much prefer the release (BoB) versions, plus concert tracks from , , years later. Even so, I can't justify anything less than stars, even if only for its contribution to the historical record.

1. Decent, with some great narration - I’ve always been a fan of Jimmy Buffett music and while this album isn’t my favorite by any stretch, I feel like it’s a good history lesson every parrot head should at least experience. The songs are pretty poor quality compared to today’s standards, but the narration in between pretty much every song gives some great history about Jimmy’s rise to fame

1. Better left buried - Sorry to say but theres a reason these recordings were forgotten in a closet. Releasing these now seems suspect especially at full price and smells like a money grab. What is amazing is the the progression Buffett made from these songs through the first two Barnaby records and then somehow the transformation to brilliance in that emerged in "White Sport Coat" and beyond. And Im so glad he did.

1. Award Winning - I saw these guys play at WDVX's Tennessee Shines last night and while they were performing, the host informed them that they had won best new folk song of with "Best Medicine." If you're looking for a new folk band to listen to or you're just interested in hearing some great music, buy this album. You will not be disappointed.

1. Tillman Brings the Weight - This album is HEAVY. I got this two days ago and I've listened to it front to back ten times and made out to it already. If you listen to the tale he's spinning, because this IS freaking folk music not pop/freak/folk or w/e, you can find yourself gettin folked, na' mean? The recordings are so still they make me wanna burn all my equipment in my backyard and go to law school. And stop talking about Fleet Foxes. That's why he did it on his own because it's not a Fleet Foxes album you spoiled brats!

2. Stripped Down, And All J. Tillman - A member of more well known Fleet Foxes, Tillman sings dark and moody songs in the vein of Richard Buckner. For some reason I consider them similar. Perhaps because Buckner's Devotion & Doubt or any of J. Tillman's albums are good for rainy days in the Pacific Northwest.

2. A Can't Miss from - The thing about this album is that it totally flopped back in . Coming off a big hit with a cover of "Bang a Gong" with the supergroup Power Station, Andy wrote "Take It Easy" for the American Anthem soundtrack, which was basically a rip off of "Bang a Gong". That song would not be included on his solo album, "Thunder", but the album is a showcase for Andy's singing and the guitar playing is not too shabby, either. There are some sadder sounding songs as well as upbeat rocking tunes such as the title track and "I Might Lie". About months after release, this album went stright to the cut-out bin, where you could pick it up for $. at places like Best Buy. While $. is not a bad price for this album, it's still about $ more than it's worth.

1. Cassandra starter kit - Her originals are always fantastic, but it's her complete reworking of pop songs that usually leave fans with their mouths hanging open. This is wonderful collection of some of her strongest covers spanning from to . Anyone who can cover U, The Monkees, Bob Dylan and Cyndi Lauper with equal skill and inventiveness is someone to pay close attention to. For instant proof, sample "Last Train to Clarksville" with its shuffling beats and changing time signatures, or her exquisite reading of "Time After Time," taken at a glacial pace to fully appreciate the beauty of the melody and the poetry of the lyrics. If you don't anything by Cassandra Wilson, this is an excellent place to start. She's on a level all her own.

1. Another Wonderful Social Commentary - The genre of folk music has long been known as a place for commentary on issues facing people of that day. In her second release of this ilk, (the first being the amazing 'Gospel Truth,") Susan Werner once again sets a standard for creating beautiful and interesting music with a message. Standouts on the album include "City Kids," "Back to the Land," "While You Wait for the Rain," the hilarious "Herbicides," and the stunningly beautiful "Plant the Stars," which really should be playing on a radio somewhere at all times. Werner demonstrates that she is a highly relevant and contemporary voice in the singer-songwriter genre and her music continues to entertain and educate with a wink and a nod and the glorious musicianship that is a Susan Werner record.

2. Another notch in the genres - Susan Werner is an unique talent in the world of singer / songwriters; sure she's an exceptionally talented pianist, guitarist, vocalist, and composer but she goes one step further and challenges herself to charge into different genres from folk to gospel, American songbook to this CD of homegrown farm songs - she's a force to be listened to.

1. Getting better with each release...if that's possible! - Brian Dunne's new LP is nothing short of magic. A true album of music, not singles, that creates a cohesive feel and sound you can pop on and enjoy from track through . From the opening chords of Tell Me Something to the last heartfelt notes of Atlanta Song, Brian delivers a classic. Taxi ranks among Brian's best which is saying something. Killer lyrics and a melody line that won't leave your head. Same is true of the rousing If You Wanna Stay A While which showcases Brian's amazing voice as well as his stunning guitar playing in a way that his previous releases hadn't captured as perfectly yet. All of that being said, We Don't Talk About It is the song I have had on repeat since getting the album. Amazing lyrics coupled with a song the tears at your heart. This is as good as songwriting gets and we are lucky to have Brian just starting his career as it once again proves that there are great things to come from Mr. Dunne!
