1. Memories of Stan - What a wonderful breath of melody, and stylings, not to mention horn voicings, of Stan Getz here! Almost every one a Oscar catagory theme, and superb arranging carefully applied. "The Shadow of Your Smile" and "Suicide Is Painless" stand out for me, but try to pick just one. I think the quartet of Lundgren inspirees me to seek out more of his stuff, because I immediately accepted each song based on their portion of this recording. All in all, a superb buy here!

Wonderful Debut Recording From Some Great Young Jazz Artists - If you are a fan of the old Art Blakey And The Jazz Messengers or Horace Silver recordings, you have to order this wonderful debut CD from New Century. New Century is comprised of Takeshi Ohbayashi on piano, Ulysses Owens, Jr. on drums, Benny Benack III on trumpet, Ysushi Nakamura on bass, and Michael Dease on trombone. The music is very traditional in its nature but with a very refreshing new vibe to it. The compositions really swing and the soloists are all wonderful. Pianist Takeshi Ohbayashi channels some of the energy of McCoy Tyner and Mulgrew Miller in his playing. Saxophonist Tim Green reminds me of a cross between Justin Robinson and Kenny Garrett on alto and Wayne Shorter on soprano, which he plays on “Festi-Vibe.” Benny Benack plays with the same fiery spirit that Lee Morgan possessed. Throughout this entire recording Ulysses Owens and Ysushi Nakamua comprise a very tight and swinging rhythm unit. There isn’t a bad tune on the entire CD. Some of my favorite tracks included: “New Century,” “London Town,” “Festi-Vibe,” “El Gran Arado,” and “Yasugaloo.” Make sure you pick up this CD for your summer listening. You won’t be disappointed. Thank you to everyone in New Century for making such a wonderful recording that really lifts the spirits, which is what great jazz is all about.

1. Great swing, great groove. - Ben Paterson is an excellent jazz pianist. He reminds me of the great Oscar Peterson. His improvisation is original and swings with the best. This album illustrates Paterson's skill and versatility. He takes the listener with him on the journey through the musical selections. Unlike some jazz artists who get caught up in the weeds of musical theory and lose the listener along the way. Remember when the sale of jazz albums hit bottom, when jazz artists were playing for themselves and not the audience?

Great band - This music is hard to categorize, it's just beautifully nuanced instrumental music that isn't afraid be both raucous and dissonant while somehow remaining genuinely lyrical and quite lovely. Spend some time with this truly original album and then check out their other music. You won't regret it.

1. Great debut! - I think this album will prove to be one of the best releases of . It’s a really solid debut from trumpeter Eric Siereveld, memorable tunes, swingin solos, and a band that’s tight and soulful throughout. Stand-out tunes for me are “The Last Innovator,” “Walk the Walk,” and the ballad “Bewitched.” Kreisberg’s contributions to this record really bring it all together, but don’t sleep on Steve Snyder’s impressive organ playing! Great debut, look forward to many more from Siereveld and crew!
