1. The Mass brings out the best in John Michael Talbot. - John Michael Talbot’s Worship and Bow Down recalls ’s The Lord’s Supper. After converting to Catholicism, Talbot released the latter’s unique musical adaptation of the Mass, intending for it to be his goodbye to the music world. Instead, its well-received reception launched his new career, following in the spirit of St. Francis as a modern day troubadour for the Lord. His discography is now more than recordings plus a number of books. Worship and Bow Down, which has a CD release date of //, but was released as a digital download on Easter day of this year, finds Talbot once again adapting the Mass using the new translation of the Roman Missal into what he calls the “Mass of Rebirth.” There are new settings for every element of the Mass (Kyrie, Gloria, Angus Dei, etc.) and for the Hail Mary, the Jesus Prayer and a portion of the Lectio Divina. Many of these songs will be included in the new hymnal published by Oregon Catholic Press (OCP) this fall. Talbot teamed with OCP for this release. “Hail Mary” is already one of the new concert favorites and it’s not hard to understand why. Talbot sets it in a minor key that adds a beauty and solemnity that is characteristic of a number of compositions found on his recordings. It’s moving even if you are not Catholic. Some non-Catholics might object to some of the lyrics, but Talbot is just taking the existing prayer and setting it to music. I have no problem here and on his other recordings overlooking the occasional reference that I might disagree with from a theological standpoint. Such instances are few and far between, which is why Talbot has an appeal beyond Catholic believers. It’s worth being able to hear such sacred music. Talbot is truly an artist. He forged his own way, which led him away from the contemporary trend that characterized (and still does) so much of Christian music. He’s unlike anyone else and continues to make relevant and meaningful music. One prime example on this release is “Hind’s Feet on High Places,” a title that many protestants might recognize from the classic book by Hannah Hurnard. This approaches his best work. It starts with a reference to Psalm : “A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you” (ESV). From there Talbot leads us to Habakkuk :-, (though) “the flock be cut off from the fold and there be no herd in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD” (ESV). This takes us to the triumphant chorus: “The LORD God is my strength, and he will make my feet like hinds’ feet, and he will make me to walk upon mine high places” (Habakkuk : KJV). Multi-tracking John Michael’s voice on the chorus (here and elsewhere), along with soaring music, that both end on a high note make this an exhilarating track. Any future collection of Talbot’s best songs should include this. Talbot’s trademark acoustic guitar style is mixed throughout with superb orchestration. The only exception are the non-musical tracks - (the “Mass of Rebirth” section), which consists of a series of short acapella chants, and calls and responses. Artistry and beauty are evident on every track, though the encouragement toward contemplative practices in tracks - may not be quite as aesthetic lyrically but is still well done. Among his output in recent years this has to rank as one of his best efforts. He unplugged for this one; the electric guitars and drums were shelved in favor of the acoustic and organic sound, but it’s not sleepy. This is something to wake up to on Easter day or any other, for every day is like a resurrection day for the believer in Christ.

2. JMT Does It Again! - There is a reason JMT is the definitive Catholic Christian musician of the late th and early st century and this album goes a long way to show why this is so true. The songs are soulful, soothing, spiritual, prayerful, and melodic. "Hind's Feet on High Places" and "Open My Eyes" are my particular favorites, but there is not a bad track on the album. The entire work is a beautiful masterpiece. This album does not disappoint and is an ongoing reminder of what a treasure JMT is to sacred music.

3. What a great Easter Gift! - I love the two movements or sets of . basic songs and . The Mass of Rebirth. Already falling in love with so many of the songs because of both their musical beauty (Did Phil Perkins Orchestrate?)but also lyrical depth in terms of worship and catechesis (For example, "In Remeberance of Me" shows a clear approach to both receiving Jesus in Eucharist and also flowing from that, adoring Christ). When I got to the Mass of Rebirth section my jaw just dropped in stunned delight as my spirit flew to the heights, experiencing the same anointing that deeply touched my soul years ago with "The Lord's Supper." In the The Mass of Rebirth, The Greek and Enlish and the Latin and English are so wedded so that you dont think about what language you are singing but rather you just enter into it, all of this undergirded with an Eastern or Byzantine-like feel and depth. "God is the Music, we just play the notes." However; I know no one who plays and sings the notes beter than JMT!!!!!

4. Ranks up there with some JMT classics - I have to be honest and say I've been disappointed somewhat with some of JMT's recent work. Not that I haven't enjoyed albums like "Living Water" and "Wisdom," I have. But even the recent albums I've enjoyed have left me wanting a bit. For me they didn't soar to the same heights or plumb the same spiritual depths as earlier works like "Lover and the Beloved" and "Hiding Place." They were great, but they didn't stay on heavy rotation in my iPod. All that changes with "Worship and Bow Down." In the few days since I started listening to it, I would already rank it in my top John Michael Talbot albums ever (and that's saying something). Here we have a perfect meeting place for thoughtful lyrics, beautiful music, and orchestrations that, simply put, knock your socks off. It doesn't hurt that JMT is drawing on some of my favorite themes and works here (like "Hind's Feet" and spiritual disciplines like "Lectio Divina" and "Jesus Prayer"). As a Protestant I even find simple beauty in "Hail Mary, " as it leads me to a deeper appreciation of Christ's mother, even though I come from a different place theologically. This truly is a JMT classic. I would, in fact, use it to introduce folks unfamiliar with his work to the gift from God that is John Michael Talbot (the album I used to use in that regard was "Meditations in the Spirit"). I am so thankful for this album--it reminds me why I fell in love with this man's music in the first place. Absolutely note-perfect and Spirit-led.

5. Beautiful and prayerful - This collection takes me to a heavenly place. Several of the songs would be great for liturgy with very singable refrains, and lyrics that remind us of the tenants of our faith in a rich way. The Mass of Rebirth is spendid, especially the Gloria and Kyrie. I recently attended a workshop in our diocese where new music for the Gloria and the responses was introduced and only one Gloria was memorable to me, one that was based on chant. JMT's Gloria is truly beautiful and prayerful, and every word sounds natural (as if spoken); chant is the only way to go, I think, for the Gloria, and JMT presented one that can be sung by a congregation in short order. Despite the stars, one quibble and one suggestion: first the quibble. There are two pieces written by other artists which I know well (Sacred Silence and Open My Eyes) and I can't understand why the melodies were changed, even if just slightly I don't see the need for that and find it distracting. The suggestion? Can JMT release a bonus track of The Jesus Prayer with just the refrain, and have it run awhile, like - minutes? I love using the Jesus Prayer to prepare for reading the daily readings and would love to pray this one. The verses are lovely but a separate track with just the refrain would be perfect.

6. Excellent! JMT has done himself one better! - I'm a long-time JMT fan. He just keeps getting better! Worship and Bow Down starts the album off worthily as the title song with each song adding to the experience. I especially love "Nothing Is Inpossible!" I got goose-bumps listening to it! It really makes you believe that nothing is impossible with God!

1. Exceptional Spiritual Music - I have been listening to and singing Dan Schutte’s music for the better part of years. I am a classically trained baritone/tenor who loves to praise the Lord when ever possible. When I reach for a choir book my first choice is Dan Schutte. I still choke up some when I sing Here I am, Lord. If you want to get in touch with God, Dan Schutte’s music certainly helps one get into the spirit! Dan, thank you so much for some of the best Christian music ever written!!! — Joe

2. Wonderful Compilation - As a teenager in the mid-late 's-early 's, I grew up involved in music liturgy in our parish as a vocalist, trombonist, and Guitarist. The mainstay of the music was that of the St. Louis Jesuits, including Dan Schutte, sj, (f the music presented on this album, there are two that I am not familiar with), some of them being re-recordings of those found on the Jesuits' earliest recordings, "Neither Silver Nor Gold." Of these remakes, the most intrigueing IMPROVEMENT is on the "anniversary" edition of "Here I am, Lord." Dan Schutte has removed the what I call "cheesy" synthesized phoenix trumpets that plagued an otherwise beautiful piece - It now lives up to it's full potential; A very peaceful, prayerful work which truly expresses one's emotion and thought in giving all to God, to be God's true servant." Having much of the St Louis Jesuits' original recordings (including vinyl), This album is a GREAT compilation, specifically of Dan Schutte's compositions, that gives one a good idea on other music that the Jesuits have produced from their beginnings in late -.

1. Sounds of Change: Prayer and Meditation - The Prayer and Meditation recorded by Bishop Paul S. Morton Sr. matchlessly exemplifies the Holy Trinity -- God, our Creator, Jesus, His Son, and the Holy Spirit. The music composition encourages the development of disciples' prayers and especially those of the righteous man for effective prayer strategies. The impartation of God's love is powerful which is how God uses Pastors. (Eph. : KJV). The Holy Spirit ministers and teaches through song and listeners will finally rejoice because Somethings Happens. Well done, Bishop Paul S. Morton, Sr. amen, Amen? AMEN!

1. Standard Setting for Godly Music - This is I arguably the best is installment from the team to date. It's not about the number of guitars or beats...it's about the message and doctrine in the songs, and that is what places this CD at the pinnacle of godly music in today's world. The title track "Each Day I Live," is a literal inspiration for any Christian. What I most adore about this CD though is that teens are drawn to it and love it. As a music leader for a youth group, I love to see the kids excited to worship...and this CD has quickly become a highlighted favorite. We've taken many songs and utilized them for congregational worship in youth group. I hope for more installments with quicker release schedules :)

2. Steadily continuing to contemporary - The Galken evangelistic team has continued to inch closer an closer to new evangelical/ contemporary in their music. We used to buy every album that they came out with, but now we aren't buying them anymore solely because of their changing toward contemporary. I mean there's absolutely no reason for excessive strumming. A little guitar... Great! But there's no reason to be excessive. " be not conformed to this world" Good godly music should not sound like the worlds music. Will not be buying this album.

1. Amazing - My faith had been somewhat diminishing, and I started to even question if there even was a God. I heard you [Steve] perform at a retreat, and you really helped me regain my faith, in both your wonderful music and words.
I should also mention I never, EVER listen to Christian/Gospel music and actually enjoy it. I'm usually too busy trying to avoid it.

1. An uplifting classic! - This is one album that has it all... Songs of peaceful prayer and uplifting songs of praise, songs that I find myself singing through the day. Several of these have become standards in the Catholic repertoire in the years since this album was released. For me, these songs define what post- Vatican music should be.

1. like a breath of fresh mountain air - I discovered this album when I heard "This Will Be Our Home" on a random Spotify playlist, and it stopped me in my tracks as I was doing dishes. I couldn't help but stand there quietly and listen to the words, letting them sink in. Listening through the rest of the album just further solidified my love for this guy. He hits this sweet yet rare combination of peaceful instrumentation and beautiful, truth-filled lyrics. At the end of the album, I'm just left feeling thankful for the life in my veins and the sweet music I got to experience.

However, this album delivers on every song. I'm sorry they only have one album for purchase. Great music for the soul. Blessings.

1. Rance Allen Group At Its Best!!! - The Allen brothers turn in another exhilarating, sweaty areobics-styled gospel workout on their third live album with exposive new renditiosn of their hist such as "Miracle Worker" and "Something About The Name Jesus" along side totally new songs such as the powerful praise number "All Day Long" and the slow-burn of "Vessel." The song "Hold On" is an upbeat quartet song with a keg of dynamite under it. The group is just as good now as they were when they started over years ago. This is good music for anyone who wants to just feel good and get their praise on!

1. Feels Like Sunday - The album is obviously intended to be church music that the listener is familiar with. It took me back to my childhood, offered some of my favorite songs of today with versions that rivaled the originals, and generally speaking, I am anxious to listen again. When I'm anxious to hear over and over, mission accomplished. Mike Bowling is one of the best singers to pick up a microphone, bar none. The album is worth it for Mike's version of Farther Along. The rest is a bonus!! Love, love, love it!!

2. Great music, but not unique - I feel like this are songs that are mostly sung in every church. They seem to have a big-budget sound, but repetitive if your church does any of these songs. It doesn't have the same emotions in it that their other albums have had. It's a good album, just different than what I was expecting from them.
