1. EXCELLENT CD TODO BEM - I found out about this artist by accident, someone I know was playing her CD. So, I had gone to youtube to look her up, and saw the interview she had done on this album. I saw the music video to Balance' and had to get the album the song I enjoy the most is track Planeta Sukri. It have a little bit of samba and bossa nova mix to it. This is definitely an album worth purchasing, I hope to see her perform in the States soon.

2. Totally Amazing Album - A few months ago, I heard Sara Tavares interviewed on the radio. I was so impressed with her music, that I came home, found it on the internet, and replayed the interview for my wife. We wrote her name on a scrap of paper and stuck it to the refrigerator. I could hardly contain my excitment when I found her album while surfing iTunes. Sara's voice is beautifully clear, and full of feeling and emotion. Qualities that jump out and touch your heart. Regretably, I don't understand many of the lyrics, however I doesn't seem to matter. My favorite song is the title track (Balance). Although, I found enough interest and variety in the rest of the music to gladly purchased the full album.

3. Happily Soulful - Happiness and soul seem mutually exclusive sometimes in music, but Sara Tavares blends them perfectly. An Excellent Album. I heard Sara in an interview on the radio. The way she could infuse her songs with different rhythms was amazing. I enjoy her clean acustic qualities and look forward towards future albums.

4. Say WHAT? - "More pleasant than substantive?" I don't know what that iTunes reviewer was smoking when s/he made that comment! This album _is_ substantive, and beautiful, and soulful. Listen to Muna Xeia: this is Sara's lullaby to her mother, her grandmother, and all the women in the world. That's just one little example of substantivity. Her voice sends shivers down my spine. Buy it. All of it.

5. I love it! - I first heard this album in my sister's car and it was stuck in my head for the rest of the day (in a good way). I don't understand a word that she is saying but this is truly a beautiful album to listen to and her voice is so pure and relaxing. I love the entire album but my favorite songs are Balance, Born Feeling, Lisboa Kuya, Amor e (which I play to death sometimes) and De Nua. Buy this album. I promise you will not be disappointed. Sara Tavares is a very talented woman. I also recommend Ceu by Ceu for your listening pleasure.

6. Adorei - Vaguely familiar with Sara Tavares from glimpses of her on a Portuguese television station, I saw her live in Boston last month where she played most of the songs in this album. To say that I was entranced, would be an understatement. Her "simpatia," love, laughter for life are infection, which she easily transmits in this album. I especially loved "Bom Feeling" which is the correct spelling of the second song on this album as well as "One Love", "De Nua". Sara, muitos parabems e beijinhos duma amiga portuguesa.

7. phenomenal ... peer to Sade - Comparing Sara T's sound to Sade seems the easiest way to convey the sound, the harmony, the smoothness, power of the music and the richness with which it all comes together. Her singing, the instrumentation and arrangement is as good as I have ever heard. The meaning of her words are unmistakable even though she is not singing in English. Sample Balance, Planeta Sukri, Dam Bo ... and you will see. And she wrote all but one of the songs, so these are not borrowed words, they are hers. Sara Tavares, you are pure magic!! Please continue to make lots and lots of music, and come do a concert in Boston.

8. Cape Verdean soul: a great mix - I first heard Sara Tavares on Joy Denalane's CD Mamani and fell in love with her voice. Her previous album is a treat but she has outdone herself: the album is soulful, mixed with Cape Verdean rhythms and even has at times a jazz feel to it (maybe it's just me). Her voice , as usual, is absolutely exquisite, and the music is just so uplifting. Like another reviewer I listen to it constantly and it never fails to touch my soul. Some favorites are "Balancê", "Planeta Sukri", "Novidadi" and the lovely duet at the end. Definitely worth it and I congratulate iTunes (another lovely Portuguese singer of Cape Verdean descent is of course Lura). Both show how the younger generation are doing exciting things with their musical heritage while creating wonderful mixes with contemporary rhythms.

9. Bravo iTunes! - I am thrilled with the addition of more and more talented Capeverdian artists to the iTunes library! This young lady is an incredibly talented vocalist who enlists the musical expertise of another CV legend, Boy Ge Mendes, as well as others. Capeverdian music is not just Cesaria Evora, who is undoubtedly the most well-known, but new and young talents like Sara Tavares, who appears to be on her way to being another "musical ambassador" from the small islands of Cape Verde, nha terra... Viva Cabo Verde. Buy this CD. You won't be disappointed.

10. Two thumbs up! - This is an album that I listen to every day. I bought the whole cd and I don't regret it one bit. My favorites are... all of them! But ESPECIALLY: Amor E. Just think... Cape Verde, tropical, portuguese, smooth and sensual. It has a great vibe, for many different moods. I reccommend it!

1. Tasteful sound - I just love the way that the clanging of the pots and the rhythem to this song clashes in a heartwarming way to the beat of love. The tropical sound and tune to these voices are romantic and calming. The flow and melody are very tasteful in this beautiful peice. This is definetly worth your dimes, nickels, and pennies!!!

2. OMG!!! AWESOME Sounds....Love it - First off, I never even heard of this group, let alone knew it was the song in the opening credits for Grey's Anatomy(which I absolutely love the show and this is an awesome theme song for it!). And then I saw a dance video by Wade Robson through a friend performing to "Hi", which was totally awesome and found out it was by psapp and then later realized it was the opening credits for my favorite show. I don't know what to say....other than I LOVE IT! instantly had to download off iTunes. Nuff said...

3. Wow! - I didn't find psapp until i checked out the greys anatomy soundtrack that had cosy in a rocket in it, which i loved, so i decided to further my search and found they're latest album and was shocked and astounded by the unique texturized and fresh sound that came out of it! i was instantaniously in love and decided to buy the whole album! the whole album is so new and fresh sounding it's like jumping into a pool on a hot day what a pleasure!

4. Are you serious....... - And what is good about this artificial music wrapped in a girly asian elevator music sounding cover. Ummm this is a "review" so im not going to sit here and list everything wrong with this band but i hope i am helpful to all when i say DONT WASTE YOUR FING MONEY!!!!!!!!!!!! This gets one star because you cant give it no stars.

5. Holy Shiz - I. Yeah. No, I'm blown away. And to think, that this is their last album's successor. Didn't think it would get any better than their last one. But, of course, how silly of me to think that. This album includes an unbelivable amount of uniqueness and creativity that has never been breached before this album. The tunes are absolutely gorgeous and flow beautifully. Uplifting, catchy, and innovative. Jeeze. I am in love.

1. Amorosó - First time I left Brasil for a long stay abroad, playing musics from this album and music from Milton Nascimento on a Walkman, kept me sane and healed the longing for everything Brasil! My Brasil of love, kindness, natural beauty, romance and real friendships. Maestro João, I am forever greatfull for your portrail of the true "alma brasileira"!

2. Memories... - I remember my parents, and the whole world of Southern US got swept up in this smooth, classy, tunes... everywhere... It is amazing that this beautiful style has gotten lost over the years. It reminds me of those softer, gentler, more sophisticated lives where the the backdrop to every cocktail party, yacht race, shopping and the rest of the civilized world felt these songs were written and soothingly sung for them. They were. They help remind us of the wonderful humanity that we are. Thankfully, they were so humbly brought to our memory in the movie "Eat, Love, Pray." There was a time when romance and civilization ruled the world... this authentic album will take you there.

1. I WILL NOT DOWNLOAD THIS ALBUM! - This is the best stuff i've heard yet! So what if i only figured out that they were speaking Portuguese a couple of minutes ago. Baile Funk is my new favorite genre hands down. I will not disrespect by downloading from iTunes. This musical genius calls for me to go to a real freaking record store and get a hard copy.

2. not to sound like a trendy but awsome awsome awsome AWSOME!! - this is the BEST frickin album in the WORLD just listen to it its AMAZING - saw them live in v. small venue in liverpool that i was involved with (as their UK record label is around here i think) then i met them!!! was ridiculous; currently trying to re-organise my life around becoming their permanent groupie/stalker and following them where ever they go! Awsome album, Amazing show I HIGHLY recommend buying this album - get ready to do some serious jumping and air punching!

3. YES!!!!!! - Damian Joseph obviously didn't hear their song Solta o Frango when he wrote his review. That song is the bomb! It's fresh, upbeat, lively...makes you want to get up and dance! Maybe that's why damian doesn't like the band, when he started dancing, the girls scattered. Dude, that's embarassing! I'm sorry if you can't dance, but don't take it out on the band.
2007-05-29
4. OMG - Ok so I didn't know really what to expect from their whole album after i had only heard Solta o Frango for like seconds on MTV but I seriously was not irked at all when I bought their album. It had me going forever. I could listen to this all day. It just reminds me of a big PARTY!!!!!! Buying this cd is a good investment of $.!!!!!!!

1. De Mutants - This is a great selection of work from one of those "golden nugget" bands you discover ever so rarely. You like their type of music, maybe have even heard something else from their native country - but then - whether on some cool blog or from college radio mash-up hour, you uncover this fantastically obscure yet lovable band, that has been there all along. And as it even turns out, they've got a remarkable following of knowledgeable fans. Really though, this is awesome. Surely has to be the best thing the Brazilian Tropicalia / Psychedelic fusion scene has to offer. Os Mutantes were really unique in the way they progressed and innovated beyond what the mostly surf-y bossa nova-y sound was during their reign. They really did a lot as far as experimentation with new sounds goes, without ever seeming insincere. Good work from a really REAL band. Also, I've heard a fair amount of other Tropicalia, but if you like this, see if you can find the band O BANDO - their LP is almost equally great.
2010-03-24
2. Get the originals - iTUNES, THIS SHOULD GO UNDER ROCK, OR PSYCHEDELIC, NOT WORLD! WORLD MUSIC IS A USELESS TERM! Anyway, all of the albums these are from (Mutantes' first four or five, especially the first and third) are worth having because they are excellent Tropicália. Also, this is missing all the diacriticals. It's Adeus Maria Fulô; Ave Lúcifer, etc... On a more musical note, the lyrics are excellent, and the best songs are Ave, Lúcifer; Panis et Circenses, A Minha Menina, Adeus MAria Fulô, Dia , and Fuga. The only glaring absences are Virgínia and Jardim Eléctrico, both from the fourth album of the latter's title. Os Mutantes was perhaps the best strictly-psychedelic band, and certainly the best Brazilian one; it's a question of them or the Grateful Dead for best ever. They were deliciously strange musically and in their actions, openly defying the Brazilian dictatorship of the time. Think Mamas and Papas Frank Zappa Beatles Grateful Dead th Floor Elevators Merry Pranksters-like attitude in a military dictatorship lots of drugs civil unrest samba influence Tom Zé, all sung in Portuguese, and you might have an idea of Tropicália's awesomeness. But this compilation, while all the songs are excellent, fails to do them justice.
2009-03-04
3. Great time and place for music - Os Mutantes were excellent in many respects. It's hard to understand the full siginificance of the music of this period if you don't speak Portugese or know how crazy and censored the political climate was in Brasil then. Many artists in the Tropicalismo movement were imprisoned or exiled because of their songs, which were considered revolutionary propaganda by the government. To the Brasilian people the songs of many of the Tropicalismo artists are regarded as high literary art. If you like this also check out Caetano Veloso, Gilberto Gil, Tom Ze, and Antonio Carlos Jobim (who was not tropicalismo but invented bossa nova).
2008-05-05
4. super good album! - I love this stuff. They try it all and succeed every time, this music breaks all the barriers and is still Brazilian as hell. Britpop euroinvasion look out, this stuff is going to top the charts. I like Animals, Roxy Music, David Bowie, Geto Boys, Slayer, and Minor Threat. And this stuff makes me far happier. Happy music for ugly losers. Jesus hates me and satan adores me and I could care less because I got this album.
2006-06-01
5. Well Assembled Collection, a Ton of Fun. - Often overlooked, Os Mutantes' music is a blast to listen to, be it mellow or manic. This collection has most of Os Mutantes' best work, ("A Minha Menina" "Bat Macumba" "Baby ()" "Cantor de Mambo") and some other well picked cuts ("Panis Et Circenses" "El Justiciero"). The collection shows Os Mutantes' ability to shift from genre to genre while maintaining a whimsical overtone. Their music is a testament to their influence on modern rockers, as they put together well-constructed and fun music. This collection is missing, however, some of Os Mutantes' other greats ("Top Top" "Jardim Elétrico"). Hopefully, iTunes will fill in the gaps left by this compilation.

Maria Gadu has a soft voice yet strong.
What a beautiful CD.
Congratulations, Gadu.
Please say thanks to Kelly Key. Because of her, you got a new fan, myself. Your version of Baba is amazing. Just genius musicians know how good this song is. Kelly Key is the BEST.
Baba is now the number one playing on my iPhone.
Ne Me Quitte Pas is also AMAZING!

2. AMAZING! - If you're daring enough to venture into the diverse sounds of Brazilian music, let this be your starting point! If there is one thing that is absolutely remarkable about Maria Gadú, it's her voice. Soulful, yet soft and soothing, her vocals perfectly compliment her take on typical Brazilian sounds like samba, axé, bossa nova, etc., as she fuses them with a certain R&B and acoustic flare. To go out on a limb, she's reminiscent of a Brazilian Joss Stone. I enjoyed every minute of this album, and regardless of your understanding of Brazilian music or the Portuguese language, I'm certain you will get a ton of pleasure by just listening to this incredible new artist!

1. The Truth Of The Matter... - The sounds on this album range from sultry to swinging to grooving to all out rocking while never straying far from their Brazilian roots. And the truth of the matter is, it works, it works really well. A well produced, well performed album that showcases Luisa Maita squarely in her comfort zone, while providing a great engaging listen for you. To quote NPRs review: "...If Maita keeps making records this good, she could well be on her way to international stardom." Definitely worth the $. D.F.I.
2010-09-03
2. The new voice of Brasil - Luisa Maita's album is quite lovely and melodic from start to finish, and she is quickly becoming the new voice of Brasil. Her vocals were featured on Rio's Olympic campaign for the games. Maita's voice is powerful and dances over the diverse rhythms of Lero-Lero. Everything from deconstructed samba and bossa ("Lero Lero"), forro ("Fulaninha"), and capoeira percussion ("Anunciou"). However, the more touching moments on the album are the downtempo ballads where Maita's voice is sweetly accompanied by the cavaquinho. While the uptempo numbers are more danceable, the ballads offer more surprises in the complexity of tempo ("Maria e Moleque.") While I do not think Maita and Céu are comparable, if you enjoy the likes of Céu, you'll enjoy having "Lero Lero" in your collection.

1. Interesting and refreshing - I don't think one can fully appreciate the album until you listen to the originals. Then you realize how genius these covers are. "Rock with You" finds him sweetly off key, like a boyfriend who got drunk one night and confessed his feelings, a marked departure from Michael Jackson's suave approach. I know - strange. But it works. And that's the case with this whole album. "Everybody Loves the Sunshine" is the ultimate in chill. "Cirandar" brings a heft and grittiness that's not there in the original peppy Brazilian samba. "The Model" morphs into a strange reggae acid trip, while "Girl You Move Me" is given a total rock makeover. Seu Jorge and Almaz is an album that's meant to be savored. It grows on you. The instrumentation, the inflections in his voice. These covers are surprising and reveal something new with each listen. All in all, this album just makes sense.

2. Dissappointed - Jorge- Get back to your roots!
This ''detour'' is a trainwreck. Michael Jackson covers in bad english?? Come on.Just saw the show in Miami. Everyone that knows your music was dissappointed and wanted their money back. The only ones that were into the new album don't understand brazilian music! Wake up before you find yourself without your fans to buy records and go to your shows.

3. Wow! - Finally a cool new record (from some of the best musicians in Brasil), that breaks all the rules and blow's your mind. Great for lounging, parties and driving around or whatever. Seu Jorge is cool as can be on vocals, Lucio and Puplio on guitar and drums are wicked as ever and Antonio is holding it all down on the bass. Killer record to have and share for everyone, enjoy!

1. How True Ron D! - Jobin transended music and it's creativity. Charlie Byrd said that "His music was too sophisticated for American Audiences". We know that was not true back in the -'s but with todays overproduced crap it rings true with todays gerneration and lack of creativity. Jobin was a genius, Ck out the Sinatra , a true classic. 1. I can listen to this forever! - A powerful voice, with great range. The album is delicate and supple at some moments, vivacious and boisterous at others, which I think is not unlike Tim himself. Some cuts are fantastically soulful and funky, reminiscent of Curtis Mayfield’s Superfly, like “Brother Father Mother Sister” and “Bom Senso”, while others wouldn’t be out of place on a Soul Train compilation, such as “Do Leme ao Pontal.” Overall I think the record is a wonderful collection of Maia’s finest work, and a great representation of a lost artist. I would have loved to see one of his national hits like Primavera or Chocolate included there as well, but I guess it didn't fit the psych flow like the others….

2. Best Tim Maia Compilation HANDS DOWN!! - I'm a sucker for these classics and having them finally available as Mastered for iTunes got me all jittery inside... If you've never listened to Tim Maia before - this is undoubtedly the compilation for you. Maia's unique psychedelic twist on R&B gives his sound an amazing edge which makes these tunes a must have for any music collection.

1. It was time - So what do you do when you start your career with a great album (Tanto Tempo), follow up with maybe the best album you will ever make (Bebel Gilberto ), and sort of lose your momentum (no pun intended, my opinion only)? After a few decent, not great albums (Momento, All For One), you take some time off, do some other projects, some movie voices, voiceover narration on a jazz album, ect. Then you come back with Tudo. Is it as good as Tanto Tempo. I believe so. As good as ? I'm not sure that is possible, but time will tell. Her best efforts grow on you. I can say that Harvest Moon is superb. The duet with Seu Jorge is fine as well. Many other bright spots, and no slack tracks. Is there another O Caminho, Cada Beijo, River Song, Simplesmente, Aganju? Hope so. Time will tell. Buy it. It's not good, it's great.

1. Awesome! - The original "Red Hot Rio" marked the beginning with my love affair with Brazilian music and this one comes at the perfect moment. 2. Great album! - Whoever thinks this album is not worth a penny clearly doesn't realize where the pennies are going. What an awesome album, and a steal for the price. Personal favorites include the Mia Doi Todd/Jose Gonzalez track obviously Beck/Seu Jorge and David Byrne/Caetano Veloso. There are so many more great tracks on the album plus it goes to a worthy cause so why not expand your library for less than cents a track. just press buy!

1. A Super Album, A Super Voice - Whenever my wife and I are having dinner guests over, we love to play Brazilian music and almost every time someone has a positive comment. We here in the States - most of us anyway, just don't search the World for great music like we should. THIS ALBUM is a perfect example of music that makes you smile as much as it relaxes you. It’s like a glass of a rich, sensual red burgundy. Cue up this album, then sit down, relax and smile with your friends or your lover. This music will not disappoint.

1. The Greatest - My wife and I chose Seu Jorge’s version of “Life On Mars?” as our wedding song. It is so beautiful and the lyrics are not the same as Bowie’s original. Needless to say we were so happy and danced when our song was played while every other person in the room was confused as to why this would be someone’s wedding song. Be yourself. Choose your life on your own terms. We love you.

2. Wish I’d known about this when it came out - If you enjoyed these songs while watching the movie or if you are looking for what may be the best Bowie covers of all time then this is a must have. Recorded on set during filming, these songs are the perfect addition to all occasions. Be it hanging out with friends or a romantic date, ambient shopping music, weddings, birthdays, funerals, Bar mitzvahs, and everything in between, this is the album for you. 1. RickyShas_ - it will be exactly yrs ago this GREAT album was released. on Tuesday st September . Apparently her last Album. I saw her live at the America Music hall in San Francisco in the nd half of the 's. She remains a talent of monumental proportions. This album is a MUST-HAVE! .....The BEST of the very best! - - - "It has the power of Magic!"

2. masterful - As another reviewer noted, Vaughan's voice breaks in the higher range on Obsession, one of the best tracks on this album. But you don't mind at all.
Smile is also incredible. This album was burned in my subconsious as a result of having listened to Vaughan with my dad before I can remember. Finding this album after long searches was a true delight. While Vaughan sings alot of standards with her own genuine inflection and style, these songs are somehow better. Her interpretation, modulation and improvisation are just phenomenal, a master at work.

3. my opinion: THE greatest vocal album - I fell in love with every single song in this album, to the point that I decided to arrange and play them all at my gigs. Occassionally, when I listen to her marvelous interpretations I cry, sometimes because we lost her, sometimes sending her a thought of love and thankfulness.

4. Late career gemstone - This is a captivating look at a star past her zenith, but perhaps all the more compelling because she has nothing to left to prove. The thematic material is intimate. Her voice falters at times, as in the cut "Obsession", but it is undeniably sultry. This an album is seductive and passionate, even bittersweet. I saw Sarah in performance at the Power Center in Ann Arbor, MI in , and she could no longer stand (she sat on a stool the entire gig), her breathing was visibly labored, and I felt an impending loss. But even in her compromised state, she gave a memorable performance.

1. st century Brazilian samba funk - Curumin is a breath of fresh air. This is not "new bossa nova" but more on the funky and urban side. The sound is a sophisticated mix of samba, funk, dub, rock, with great electronica thrown on top in for effect. Samba instruments are mixed in with funky bass and drums. If you are into old Jorge Ben and Trio Mocoto, this will be up your alley. If you're not familiar with samba rock but looking for a new groove then pick this one up. It could be dance music or chill out music, depending on your mood. We played this one at a barbeque and everyone was blown away by how cool the sound is.

2. Good funky upbeat brazilian album - I haven't had much luck finding good recent brazilian music living in PR. This album was a pleasant surprise, it's like a cross between Stevie Wonder and Jorge Ben Jor. The first four songs are probably my favorites, then the album loses some steam. Don't expect samba, bossa nova or much brazilian percussion. Do expect creative funky fusion.

1. What Bossa does best - Rosalia is able to transport those listening to the best of the 's, without the kitsch. This is about carefree summer days in the city, at the beach, surrounded by smiles and good times. If you're not booked on a flight to Sao Paolo in the next hours, take a dose of this album for a comparable boost to the system.

2. This Is Summer At Its Best - Who can resist? Picture sitting on Ipanema Beach at sunset, with your favorite cocktail in hand. Now buy this and enjoy the next-best thing to being there. Rosalia De Souza and Nicola Conte make some wonderful music together. Sexy. Sutry. Hip-swaying music at its best - and at $., its cheaper than a flight to Brazil.

1. Banda Magda will warm your heart and move your feet! - From the first time I heard this album, I fell completely head over heels in love with Banda Magda’s music. As a fan of world music already, I couldn’t believe how they mixed things together (like Brazilian samba sung in French, for example) and how much I loved it! I had the opportunity to see Magda perform in New Orleans, and let me tell you…there is nothing like hearing this music live! Buy this album and I promise, you will not be disappointed. My only warning: it’s the only thing you’ll want to listen to for a loooong time. :)

2. Brilliant Artist Ruined By Mastering - Gahhhh, Magda has such an incredibly beautiful voice, but the way it was mastered makes it sound so tinny and whinny. There’s so much high end and all of the warmth of her voice has been lost. Quite honestly unlistenable because of it. It makes me wince and tense up! Why would they do this to her voice! The compositions are great and the playing is great as well. I certainly hope they read this review, because I think it is so unfair for a fabulous artist to be ruined at the hands of some guy in front of Pro Tools who doesn’t know what he has done! Magda, you are great and please keep making music so that the next album can be everything this one should have been.

3. Magda is excellent! - Their debut album is a truly crafted thing of sonic beauty, honesty, and a work of true love. Magda's sprightly, yet strong singing voice is balanced, pure, and is as cathartic as it is energizing, and she plays a mean accordion! The members of Banda Magda provide an eclectic and truly fresh backing to her vocals and songwriting, with bossa and samba tinged guitar, the hollow pluck of an upright bass, and the jeweled twinkle of vibes. I also highly recommend seeing them live, they put on a very energetic live performance! Caught them on a double bill with the equally magnificent Snarky Puppy and they brought the house down!

4. See them live! And in person! - As of this writing, Banda Magda just finished touring, but to really get the full Banda Magda experience, you must see them in concert! Yes, this album is great, but do yourself a favor...see them live! I saw them play in Roanoke, and they were incredible. Follow them on Twitter and Facebook, so you'll know when they are coming to your town.

1. Almost There - Audience noise a problem? Not for me. I once sat front-row-center, ft. from João, hearing him play, as opposed to the amplificaiton in the auditorium. When I play this album on my turntable, it is as if I were in that seat again. The iTunes recording does not do it justice. Not Apple's fault. This is the clearest distinction between LPs and CDs I have heard to date, and both are wonderful; albiet the LP more wonderful.

2. Great album except... - This really is a five-star album but it has one serious problem: recorded live at Montreux, you are going to get the wonderful Gilberto and his guitar on every track AND what is probably the most obnoxious audience noise I have ever heard on any LP or CD. Clap, clap, clap, Joao begins to sing, drives the crowd crazy...takes them nearly five to ten seconds to quiet down. I had to record my LP into the computer and remove most of the audience with Audacity before I could be truly happy with this recording. With this said, the recording is well worth the money.

1. A mind expanding journey of starts and stops - I listened to this album a great deal when I was in my early s and I loved it because I had never heard anything like it before. One minute you're furrowing your brow and staring at the speaker the next you're on your feet twirling about to the music. A really great album, but expect the unexpected.

2. A compositional masterpiece - Through word of mouth I have stumbled on to this gem of an album. Completely unfamiliar with Ze's work, I was floored the first time I heard it. Compositionally speaking, his works are beautiful examples of "not over-writing." Everything is simple and well thought out, with his soulful lyrics and infectous grooves topping off a perfect musical cocktail of creativity and innovation.
