1. Sigh…. - As a seasoned banker working in two GSIBs for the past twenty years….it’s painful to listen to David Sacks. He doesn’t understand the banking system at all yet he talked about it as if he were an expert. So wrong on so many fundamental aspects of the current banking crisis. I love(d) the podcast for its insight into the tech investment world but for now I have to spend my time elsewhere. Hope they turn around.

2. One star for their SVB coverage - I’ve always had a love/hate relationship with this podcast but have often found each of the hosts insightful within their own areas of expertise. I regret to say that they completely lost me with their coverage of the SVB collapse. The incredible lack of understanding of the banking sector, particularly by David Sacks, was painful to listen to and flat out incorrect on numerous occasions. This has me wondering how many other things they have presented as fact that were incorrect but I was unaware because I was less knowledgeable about that industry. I was also shocked by their apparent lack of familiarity with the solutions available that automatically help individuals and businesses sweep cash to numerous banks to extend FDIC coverage well above the $k threshold. That risk was easily avoidable if VCs and their portfolio companies understood the risk they were taking in the first place. On the whole, I found their discussions (both via the podcast and on Twitter) to be more harmful than helpful and plan to pause my listening as a result.

3. of the worst tech bros in the word - Talk their book and push their crackpot libertarian politics via bad faith arguments. It’s occasionally interesting to listen to, just to hear how people like that think. Sacks is the worst (politically), while Calacanis plays the “liberal” like he’s on a Fox News show. Chamath of course is a world-class grifter, king of the SPACs. Ugh.

4. SVB - Why aren't banks required to mark-to-market their treasuries ? Perhaps bc the largest banks have prevented that, as that would expose them as insolvent. JPM, and the the Fed itself, would be insolvent if accurate accounting was required of them, per several analysts accounts the past years. The Fed is leveraged something like x.

5. Latest episode - I have been a longtime listener and never written a review. This episode was brutal. Sachs was nauseating to listen to with his constant filibustering and interrupting. Why did you even have Brad on? You hardly let him speak. I’m a fan of the show but that really went off the rails.

6. Great Team … but Jason Needs Steel Man - Love the show, the topics, the insights, the banter, and most importantly - the honesty. Jason is a great host, but occasionally lapses into “talking points” instead of honesty. Chamath, Sacks, and Friedberg stick to facts and “steel man” their arguments, which is fantastic, I’ve learned a lot from this concept. Jason occasionally, when losing an argument, uses bluster and talking points and twisting words to “win”, which is intellectually dishonest and drags down the show. Otherwise, I love all the guys and their insights.

7. Panel needs a woman - This is an important show however it lacks diversity. I would relate to it more if there was a woman on the panel, as a young woman in finance. They refer to companies, boards and investors as “the guys” more often than not. The panel love to hate the woke for being hypocritical - so be an example, guys. Further, this show would be more accessible to a diverse audience if they explained concepts and jargon more often. Or even an episode to break down some of the things they see as basic.

9. Never miss an episode - Although some shows drag and go nowhere. I’m certain more than % of the episodes will shine light onto a facet of life I have been completely oblivious to and I walk away more aware, not woke, as a result. What would be nice is less government bashing and blaming and more solution generation and risk awareness assessment.

10. Little smarter - Hello dudes. Thank god I heard Jason’s interview with Tim Ferris. The only thing I knew about AI was my Toyota Highlander used it turning my bright lights on and off. GhatGPT blew my mind. I’m years old and know nothing about how computers work. The complicated issues you guys discuss is fascinating. All our lawmakers should listen to All-in. I’m getting a little smarter every Friday. Thank you for sharing your accumulated knowledge. Go Chamath for teaching your son how to answer the phone. Next comes articulation. Love you guys be well.

11. World Greatest Dweeb - Liberal to the core and heavily influenced by Molly Wood from TWiST, “JCal” can’t figure out where he wants to stand amongst his more successful, intelligent, and well-opinioned friends. If not for his “moderating” abilities, he wouldn’t be on this podcast. Constantly arguing for, and then walking back, the positions Molly Wood plants in his ear when the cool kids call him out is so insufferable. Stop pimping your own shty investments with your nonsensical point of view and trying to tie it to the real topics of conversation. It ain’t working bud.

12. I’m all in for All In - podcast. Relevant content. Smart analyses. Heterodox thinking. Entertaining banter w some bite. Sacks wins for best zingers. Bonus: Chamath’s cashmere sweaters. Hope they follow through with the idea floated last week that they’ll schedule the next All In summit at same time as WEF/Davos.

1. Intellectual Deep Conversations for Everyone! - Lex does an amazing job of finding interesting guests from all professions and all ideologies. One thing all his guests have in common is passion. It is very interesting and educational to listen to a well educated, well spoken person be curious about what the other person finds to be interesting and why they are passionate about their subject. It’s obvious that Lex spends lots of time prepping for each interview and knowing the right questions to produce good answers. His long-form discussion interviews are among the best in podcast today, in my opinion. Lex asks questions from opposing as well as supporting views —that is what makes his discussions honest and % worthwhile the listen. Keep up the awesome work Lex!

2. I’m Grateful - I’m just happy that there are spaces like this where people can just talk. A space where you’re allowed to fail and be wrong and learn. I just listened to Lex and Sam chat for over four hours and it was so lovely. No one is perfect, but we have to have spaces where we can think out loud, together, honestly.
2023-03-21
3. Favorite - Get the best out of each guest. Lex is wise beyond his years. Thanks for all the effort. Sam Harris is full of himself. He was always right about Covid, even when he wax proven wrong. Same with Twitter, Twitter was great when it was censored, but as free speech it’s a waste of his time filled with useless information.
2023-03-19
4. Destiny Interview - I , at years on this planet, have come to the conclusion that words are fluid and should not be confused with actions. There are words I will not use in the public domain. There are words I know are triggers. But words should not be the sole property of a group because the words are there like a conversation bubble in a comic strip. We should be civil in public interactions and we might connect with a person that might enrich your life. Your words are like doors to people minds, hearts and souls. There are doors meant to the opened and doors meant to remain closed. You are the key.
2023-03-14
5. Always well-prepared and usually interesting - Lex has such a wide range of interests and does a great job interviewing his guests. He is well-prepared and has extensive notes to refer to when interacting with his guests. His guests are usually articulate, and Lex doesn’t pick them for woke or political reasons, which is rare these days. I like his book summaries particularly as well as his self-discipline.

6. good will - open mind - highly intelligent - Lex, please pull together your brain trust and help the USA get intelligent, competent leaders. So tired of same old partisan-disrespectful-selfish politics. Recently heard a governor say on national TV that Americans have two political choices, “normal or crazy”. Ugh!!! Help !!!!!! Tough times ahead with wars, environment, aging, poverty/wealth gap - need young minded brilliant people to lead us.
2023-02-22
7. Meandering Issues and Truthiness Issues - The John Carmack episode was amazing but after a few more episodes I became frustrated with the meandering pace. The Aella interview was when I got off the train for good; this was Twitter polls moonlighting as academic research. Lex really needs to do better at fact checking and deciding what/who to give a platform to. Still recommend the Carmack interview.
2023-02-12
8. Six minutes of ads at the beginning? Editing badly needed. - Agree with the previous reviews that think this podcast is way too long per episode. Placement of ads being self -narrated is fine but not six minutes worth at the very beginning with no bumper music or transition to know what is an advertisement versus what is part of the conversation. The host. Well, I am sure is a great conversationalist, he needs to get out of his own way, and let the guest set the pace, rather than ramble and amble on and on.
2023-02-08
9. Nearly perfect! - Terrific podcast, broad variety of topics, excellent guests. Only criticism I have- or maybe just an observation- is guests often speaking VERY quickly. Seems like Lex speaks in a slower way but they don’t follow his lead. Still- my current favorite podcast for the content and terrific in-depth interview style.
2023-02-07
10. Too Long, Unwieldy Podcast - Great subject matters. Excellent guests. And a likable host. But the podcasts are far too long to enjoy. Even on a road trip, you’ll likely get to your destination before the podcast ends. In all other contexts, you’re probably only going to listen to about a quarter of the podcast - and much of it will feel like fluff. Some better prepping and more planned questions in advance might help shorten the format. I’m reminded by the old saying “I wrote you a long letter because I didn’t have the time to write you a short one.”
2023-02-05
11. You can own a tank in the US - But the part that that shoots needs to be completely disabled. Also this civil war episode is so one sided it’s insane. Union soldiers also raped and lynched. Abe Lincoln was a politician not a saint. First he wanted to ship all blacks to Liberia hence the flag . He also forced the blacks to fight for him he even killed ppl in ny because they didn’t want to fight. Uzis aren’t even big guns “uzis and tanks”. And we need guns to fight against the government or at least be a real threat. Everything has two sides which is why I like your podcast. This episode specifically is too one sided.
2023-01-26
12. Your audience. - Can’t speak for everyone, but I know myself and my friends and we love this show. We love it because we trust you. You are a good person who sees reality with heart. With that trust we are willing to learn about the things you choose to show us. Media feels impossible to trust what you are hearing. Lex feels possible to trust.

1. Trending Wrong Way - Subscribed years ago, and it seems less and less about sharing knowledge and ideas now. I can appreciate hearing about political issues and social issues, but I hear enough of it from other podcast I listen to. Also seems to be less neutrality in a given subject. Miss the good ol’ days with Guy Raz, but nothing personally against Manoush.
2023-03-03
2. Needs New Content - I’ve been following this podcast since the beginning when Guy was hosting. Back then, it was engaging and had regular new content. Over the past years, the show has become my last option since most of the content is repurposed. It’s not bad content, but is redundant for the weekly follower.
2023-03-03
3. Downhill recently - If I were not subscribed in the past I would absolutely not subscribe now. It’s annoying how the new host gasps/has childish reactions when guests say interesting things/reveal their points. I could really do workout the melodramatic reactions to basic statements. It’s also annoying how the host seems to not know much about their guests’ work. Maybe the host is too busy to properly research guests, but it’s been particularly bad recently. Additionally, it’s ridiculous that the host would receive criticism about the way her voice sounds and then get on Twitter to complain about the criticism and frame it as sexism. Unbelievable that criticizing a nasally voice is now sexiest lol.

4. Thought provoking and engaging - I have always loved TED talks and TEDx talks. Now that I have found Ted Radio Hour I have found my next great love. If your looking for a perplexing smorgasbord of thought engaging material. You have to check out this pod cast. You will love it. I highly recommend this weekly show.

5. Interesting - This was very interesting. It made me curious about what I can do to stop my brain from declining, because I cannot stop menopause and my hormones from declining. I also wanted to know more about men and how their development/decline is different. Brain waves-how the brain communicates with itself was not explored here. It’s fascinating how there can be a communication gap in the brain waves and the upcoming technology that it changing it! Dive deeper.

6. Became Too Biased - Perhaps coincidentally or perhaps not, but the content of the shows became more liberal-minded when Manoush took over as host. I don’t know how topics and guests are chosen, but it’s a clear liberal topic each week. With Guy Raz as host, there was much less bias in the content and questions. Manoush, on the other hand, doesn’t hide her bias, even stating her opinions on some topics and openly disagreeing with her interview subject. I find that appalling in this style of podcast - science-based, not political. I am definitely not a conservative, but I like shows of this content to be neutral, interview a variety of guests, and most of all stay away from political overtones. The second problem with this show is the diminishing quantity of content. This seemingly started during the pandemic and hasn’t picked back up. I don’t know if it’s a budget issue, lazy employee(s) or a different issue, but it is annoying to see repeat episodes every other week. Unfortunately until a new host is chosen or content becomes more varied, I will not be subscribing any longer.

7. A deeply sad turn for the worst - I listened to the TED radio hour back in high school from - and was absolutely mesmerized by some of the episodes Guy Raz would be hosting. There was one with interviews with inmates in prison that I’ll never forget, there was one with a Buddhist monk as well that changed my life. I don’t know how the topics are picked and the people interviewed are picked, but something has gone horribly wrong. This podcast used to have a strong pulse on environmental issues, on creative work, on psychology, (what are the emotions that define us) but NOT in a wishy-washy, surface level way. Topics would get deeply philosophical, there would be researchers, experts in their fields, musicians, writers, and also just regular people with fascinating stories. I can’t even listen to this show anymore it’s so bad. There’s simply no following Guy Raz.

8. Love it! - I love listening to the TED Radio Hour. Originally I discovered it via my local NPR station. I used to listen to it on my Amazon Alexa speaker, but now I listen to it regularly as a podcast while I walk my dog. It’s always very intriguing content and makes my walks in the hot, humid Texas summers more bearable.
2022-09-03
9. Too woke even for a Democrat - I was a listener for years, since . Skip to thru now and with Guy leaving…TED is just terrible. Too much about, racism, social justice, income inequality, self shaming white people, victims overplaying the victim card constantly. What happened to the educational, scientific and talks about technology? Get another host and let’s get back to Technology Entertainment Design please. Ted was an escape not this wokeness crap.
2022-06-02
10. Work, Play, Rest part - Such a fresh take on play! Jacob Collier is mind bending; I enjoyed listening to his perspective on creativity. I also was deeply moved by the response by the father of an autistic boy to create a safe virtual world for play. The pandemic has lifted both the need and importance of play. Excellent episode.
2022-02-12
11. Revised rating. - I have revised my rating from stars to stars as TED has moved over the past year from a diverse group of speakers from differing world views to a much more political program focused on “progressive” ideology over evidence based factual reporting. Don’t get me wrong, I believe that those progressive ideas deserve a voice but not at the exclusion of other ideas that may fall on the more conservative political position or favor capitalism and market based solutions. The assumption that all their listeners are of the same political persuasion is the opposite of diversity. After a frustrating year, I plan to unsubscribed and now will only download the topics that are clearly legacy Technology, Entertainment and Design subject matter.

Comments
1. Drama Queens - I think their heart is in the right place and some of their insights are interesting but you have to wade through a LOT of high school drama to get to it. They need to mature a bit. I’m surprised that a person affiliated with The New York Times is part of this. I subscribe to NYT and the quality of their other offerings is much higher. Will unsubscribe to this for now. May check back if they change podcasters.

2. The best kind of “tech bros” - Came for the rigorous tech news reporting — stayed for the hosts’ bromance. There’s something so wholesome and lovable about Kevin and Casey’s dynamic, it really helps the AI / crypto / big tech news go down smooth. As a woman in tech in Seattle, I’ve noticed that regularly listening to Hard Fork for the past couple of months has made me way more fluent in the goings on of my field, which ends up being a nice perk at work but also at social gatherings.

3. I learn & laugh so much! - Thank you guys for taking your time to make this podcast. I absolutely love it! I’m super busy in life and I really appreciate being able to get caught up on so much of what’s happening in tech and social in a fun and super informative way! Keep it up please also, you make me laugh and giggle often!

4. Accessible - After Kevin’s love affair with Sydney was discussed on The Daily I came across hard fork and in so glad I did! I know NOTHING about technology or the future of AI and what even is chatgbt???? But I find this podcast incredibly accessible and interesting and highly recommend even if you are not typically interested in IT.

5. Roose could use a new co-host - I love Kevin Roose, but Casey Newton is not the right co-host for this show. I feel that an interview format podcast would be better than the back and forth banter. Newton is too unmeasured and he disrupts the flow of the conversation with random outbursts that are not particularly thoughtful. He might be trying to bring humor, but I would prefer a more thoughtful co-host. Newton makes it sound like we are listening to two college friends at a bar rather than a NY Times podcast. Lastly, this is not Casey’s fault, but he and Kevin sound too similar and it’s really hard to distinguish their voices.

6. New York hard forking place - I recently heard your show and compliments to your discussion just the right amount of humor and substance throughout and your guest speaker from the show was a real clever and smart persona as a enemy of TikTok was very funny especially when the comment “ that was your go to move to spy on a journalist ! 7. Entertaining podcast covering latest tech topics - Ep remind me of my experience with Replika.
I talk to Replika for ranting. It used to randomly initiate some creepy suggestive dialogue with further responses locked behind membership which is hilarious.
Once I tried the VR mode. It displays the D model through the phone camera screen. My “friend” says “hello” then strode to approach me, later I realized it might be a hug but I was indeed a bit scared at that moment.

8. Starting to disappoint - I started listening to Hard Fork when it debuted in Sept - I was so impressed with the hard news approach combined with humor combined with analysis combined with thoughts on how these technologies and business developments affect real people and economies. I was learning a lot of useful things and being guided by two very thoughtful and experienced journalists with good healthy skepticism perspectives that helped them point out the various angles that needed to be examined on the issues they were covering (Twitter, AI, Meta, Musk, Search, Bitcoin, etc). But beginning with the Feb and Feb podcasts, I started to get concerned: Kevin and Casey seemed to be so enamored with Open AI’s work and Microsoft’s collaboration with Open AI on Bing, that the objectivity and hard news and balance has started to fade. The real torpedo in my confidence and enjoyment of the podcast (and trust) was their decision to interview the CTO’s of Open AI and Bing together to unpack and try to look more closely at the new Bing that is being developed. Although it hard news to interview the source and creators of products, it was not an enlightening interview: their guests’ answers were what you would expect from the “owners” of the product: ‘it’s amazing’ ‘it’s going to figure out how to be accurate very quickly’ ‘I’m so impressed with our partner on this project, Microsoft, in how they have added footnotes to the SERPs’. I would have MUCH rather heard an interview with outside experts analyzing how this new Bing system is, in fact, going to impact search - ask a couple of car mechanics to explain how this new fangled invention, the carborator, is going to change the way we build and operate our cars. Don’t go interview the carburetor maker - interview some car experts who have watched and been involved in the industry for years - people with some objectivity and concern for the general public at the top of their priority list. Kevin and Casey asked their guests about the concerns and disruptions, but the answers were the glowing self-assessments you’d expect from the owners themselves. And the other torpedo that has soured me on Kevin’s analysis of this technological development is how illogical he was in assessing Bing’s (the beta version) SERP when he searched for things to do with his kids in his home town for the weekend. The results were events that had happened in the past. Kevin called this a minor inconvenience - yet, he cited Google’s new AI mistake of citing the first pictures of planets outside our solar system as a market crushing blow (and he correctly cited it as one factor in Google’s stock taking a big hit recently - he was thoughtful not to assign the entire stock decline to that mistake) and he made sure we understood this was a “huge” mistake that was significantly damaging. Please explain to me how a search on Bing for “events to take my kinds to in my home town this weekend” is not a bigger problem - if I do that search, get the results, then plan my weekend, get the kids in the car, drive to the supposed event, and the event venue is closed or is currently conducting some other event because the event that Bing presented to me happened a month ago, then I am never using Bing again. End of story. It’s a no-brainer. But Kevin didn’t put the pieces together. I don’t get it. Where is the clarity - where is the parity in comparing the new Bing to the old Bing - where is the cool-headed assessment of the technology. I know I’m on a criticizing tear here, but I’m going to finish on it anyway: today’s Daily podcast (NYTimes with Michael Barbaro, Wednesday Feb , ) was a vague and imprecise analysis of these same issues. I understand, this new technology is a big deal and it is significant and involves some fun, but how it is affecting and going to affect our search behavior was discussed in a way that was very subjective and facile. David Barbaro and Kevin Roose are two of the best reporters and journalists in the country - and right now I think they are sliding into happy and sloppy euphoria over a new and impressive new technology that is more problematic than its initial performance suggests. It has inundated us with lightning fast responses that are formatted in a more complete and thorough fashion, but the fundamentals are problematic (hiding and minimizing citations and sources, making actual mistakes that are damaging) - just because “Star Wars” was amazing, does not make it the be-all and end-all of movies. It was ground breaking and influential and fun - but when you stepped back and looked at the underlying story, there was a lot of show biz razamatazz distracting you from the actual minimal usefulness of that literature and cinema to society and life. There’s a lot more work to be done in illustrating how these new AI models are ACTUALLY going to function in the search economy. I’m confident Kevin and Casey and Michael Barbaro and company are going to help us examine that - when they get back on track.

9. Dynamic duo - Kevin Roose and Casey Newton are podcasting’s new dynamic duo. Their curiosity about each other’s opinions and fondness for each other makes Hard Fork more than just another tech show. They are great at explaining what the latest tech trends are are, and — more importantly — why they matter.
2023-02-12
10. My new favorite podcast - Truth… I wish this podcast was more than just once a week. Kevin and Casey are insightful, honest, and REALLY fun to listen to. The topics are incredibly fresh/top of mind in the tech space. I feel as though I get a better picture of what’s going on from their very thorough approach to reporting. Keep up the awesome work Hard Fork team. I love it.
2023-01-24
11. Great digest of tech news - I just wanted to say thank you for creating this show because it’s made it easier for me to digest and relate to the changes going on in the tech world. The rapport between Casey and Kevin is fantastic and through smiles and laughter this podcast achieves the perfect balance between entertainment and education. Looking forward to your episodes each week!

12. Exactly what I needed - I’m always looking for smart, interesting takes on the tech world from non-jerks. This is harder to find than it sounds, and Hard Fork exceeds my desires. This is why I was NOT MAD that Hard Fork showed up in place of Kara Swisher’s Sway in my feed, because it means I found it faster. I love Casey & Kevin, they are great off the cuff, and the pieces they put work into are brilliant (anybody else get a slight “Reply All” feeling sometimes? In a good, non-union-busting way, I mean). Protect the Hard Fork podcast at all costs.

1. Easily the best podcast ever - Even if you are not someone who is computer oriented or really into technology or hacking.. these stories are absolutely gripping and unbelievably wild at times and the way they are presented by Jack is of the highest quality making it easier to understand and follow along no matter who you are. And regardless of your interests.. you will LOVE this show. These are some of the most amazing stories of the last few decades and it’s a great service for Jack to bring these stories to people who otherwise never would have known these kinds of things have happened. Amazing content and by far my favorite go-to podcast to get me through the day! Always looking forward to more. Jack.. you’re the best. Thanks so much for what you do.

2. Very interesting - I don’t know anything about spying governments, IT, hacking, social engineering, scamming, nothing. So idk why I though this podcast would be interesting when I first started listening maybe a year ago. But I don’t think I’ve ever skipped an episode. For some reason, I find these stories very captivating.
2023-01-25
3. Where have the podcasts gone? - It’s almost February and we haven’t had a new post cast since December. This leaves me disappointed. I’m glad I do not pay a subscription or I’d be asking for my money back for the month of January. I have reached out multiple ways and received no response. I would think something had happened to Jack but he’s made other posts. So he’s alive and well. Just no podcasts for an entire month.

4. Gollumfun - I listen to a million podcasts and literally never rate any of them. Listening to the outstanding storytelling of this episode (and a many others) made me step up. Jack you are amazing. I’m not in IT but in my previous life I did a lot of social engineering (before it was a thing) and you do such great work making complicated tech stuff accessible and fun. Great podcast, outstanding guests, excellent production

5. Favorite podcast ever - I only ever even started listening to podcasts because I saw somebody (maybe Jack himself?) post on a certain forum popular with this audience demographic. I’ve been listening and have listened to every episode. It’s still the only podcast I’ll play as soon as ur comes out, other ones idc and will forget an ep or , but I listen every single one of these. When I went to jail the first thing I was am excited about after eating I said “it’s been two months! There’s gotta be more episodes out by now! Got home smoked a blunt and started kistwning. Point is- best podcast ever keep up the amazing work Jack, certain stories I know well from some sources too and we had the same info. PA I’ve read a lot of the recommended books or books by the speaker relating to the topic and they’ve all been great. “This is how they tell me the world ends” or something by Nicole Perleroth; not a small book but I read it in two days. I’m not not some genius. And so much if the book takes about what could happen in cyber warfare affecting real world systems, talking about how Russia’s done it multiple times to the Ukraine, now it would be an even better and much more terrifying book to read with current events

6. First podcast - My first podcast I listened to and have been hooked ever since. I finally subscribed because I Listen to it everyday at work. This podcast is VERY ADDICTIVE. You have been warned! Oh JACK IF YOU SEE THIS REVIEW KEEP DOING YOU JOKES AT THE END OF THE PODCAST!! I love them. They crack me up. I learn new stuff every time I listen to a new episode. I’m hooked like a fish out of Water. TUNE IN!!!

7. Enjoy it - I’m not super tech savvy. I build gaming pc’s and such but know no coding etc. yet am fascinated with dark web shenanigans and stories. These are presented really well and easy listening even when I’m not familiar with some of the tech lingo. Highly recommend. If your in my realm of tech knowledge as I stated.

8. Excellent. Highly recommended - This is an outstanding podcast. The content is informative and also entertaining. I’m impressed by how well Jack explains technical information so that the average listener—someone without a background in cybersecurity—can also follow along. Jack Rhysider covers many different topics on the podcast. He has had many cool guests on his show who have shared experiences from their careers in information security, physical security, intelligence, etc. Many episodes are presented as documentaries of important hacking incidents that have occurred in history. I enjoy these because they help me gain a better situational awareness of all that has happened.

9. Always good value - I love the pen testing stories. Red teams are the fighter pilots of the cyber team. I have been working in aerospace cybersecurity for about a year and while we are all critical in our role, the testers definitely get the glory.
I think it is the Hollywood factor of being the “hacker”.

10. Interesting show, but sometimes gives a moral pass to bad actors - There are some really interesting stories in here, and some great lessons about best practices and how to not fall prey to a social hack. However, this certainly isn’t unbiased journalism - Jack isn’t shy about sharing his position on the stories he’s covering, and he sometimes gives a moral pass to some really shady characters. The early episode about the revenge porn site was a good example in which Jack seems to find grey areas where there’s really no grey at all (at least morally). And I’m writing this review as I’m listening to the Pirate Bay episode, in which Jack gives wholeheartedly supports the subject’s portrayal of themselves as innocent victims. If these guys are such crusaders for justice, they’d be working on a model to help get fairer compensation for creators, but it’s very clear that their real interest is in getting free stuff. Stealing from artists because the current system is unfair doesn’t help the artists, so please, enough with the hypocritical victim talk. FWIW, I do pay for this show and generally really enjoy it, but the editorializing in support of these Pirate Bay dbags and others like them is infuriating.

11. Absolutely Amazing!!! - This is a very informative and educational podcast, I’ve been listening to it for a little while now and I don’t want to stop listening to it. I love his amazing storytelling abilities that make everything so interesting. Personally one of the best cybersecurity podcasts I’ve heard on the platform!

12. Favorite - Very high quality podcast - fantastic research, storytelling, and audio. I also appreciate how little the episodes are interrupted by sponsors. The only thing I don't like about this podcast is that sometimes the people being interviewed are hard to understand, but Jack usually will usually clarify what they're saying :)

In this podcast from the Center for Humane Technology, co-hosts Tristan Harris and Aza Raskin explore the incredible power that technology has over our lives — and how we can use it to catalyze a humane future. Join us every other Thursday as we confront challenges and explore solutions with a wide-range of thought leaders and change-makers — like Kate Raworth on renegade economics, Audrey Tang on digital democracy, Daniel Schmachtenberger on global coordination, and Yuval Noah Harari on th...

1. A note of concern regarding the psychedelics episode - I love the show, and up until this episode on psychedelics, haven’t had anything but praise. I just recently listened to the Cover Story/Power Trip podcast episodes and was saddened to hear that the abuse that goes on in the culty religious circles (that I happen to come from) seem to be going on in the world of psychedelics. If those stories and reporting are true, MAPS really needs to nip that stuff in the bud and make sure this research isn’t built on an abusive infrastructure, and people need to ask hard questions and not just get caught up in the moment of thinking psychedelics are the magic key and anyone bringing up negative stuff or questions is harming the broader picture. For example, in the Southern Baptist Convention they suppressed the stories of the abused because it would harm the church’s ability to reach people and save souls. These leaders work was more important than the abuse victims. MAPS and their work is not more important than the people being harmed by abusive therapists. I feel like there should have been some harder questions in this interview, and not just amplification and definitely a warning to accompany info on how to participate in the therapeutic research.

2. Stop every/anything and tune-in!!! - I’ve been listening for a while now and literally just realized how much I look forward to new episodes. The information and, best of all, the solutions we gain each episode gives me hope for the future of society (especially the youth and younger developing minds)!

3. Save us! - Over privileged spoiled brats completely disconnected from reality whom would save the world if we would only make them the new masters. Y’all are screwed in the head, go back to your private schools and communities and do nothing except talk and feel smug from your castles. The revolution is coming for you all that were privileged and chose to use the system.

4. Editing Audio - Hi guys,
I so love your epic show! Vital listening for a better now and better future, less acrimonious. Here’s a thing— just listening to your interview with Dylan Marron, the editing speeds up the audio unevenly, which is disconcerting, and to inhuman levels at some points. No one can speak that fast, nor hear that fast. And me slowing down the speech is not the answer. I stopped listening to this episode becasue of it. Perhaps it’s my imagination. I love the conversations you have, what you’re bringing to the table (you are MAKING the table). Please don’t alter the speech so much that it’s unintelligible. Many thanks!!

5. Bonus episode comment - I generally find Your undivided attention podcasts very informative and interesting. And the portion of this podcast regarding the Foundations of Human Technology course was an impressive offer to people to expand knowledge and responsible use of technology. But in the beginning of the program at minutes seconds, Tristan Harris uses an example of a new synthetic media ‘clip guided image diffusion’ technology that I personally found irresponsible. He says giving the computer the phrase “Breaking news: Kharkiv bombed in Ukraine” generated images just like the ones we see online. Particularly at this time, using this Ukraine bombed example of fake images was perhaps technologically accurate it was also humanely irresponsible. I could see Tristan Harris quote being misused by someone like Tucker Carlson or other right wing extremist media to make claim that US says Ukraine bombing images are faked as Russian State TV is claiming. Again, just my personal viewpoint.

6. Raskin & Harris fail to challenge guests - Raskin and Harris are very well informed on social media and big tech issues, but not so much when it comes to political matters. For example, Anthony Leiserowitz was a guest on the //, Changing Our Climate of Denial episode. Leiserowitz made at least false statements during the interview that went unchallenged. The most egregious came min and seconds into the episode. Leiserowitz claimed that traditional media companies such as ABC, NBC, etc. aren't allowed to say anything they want because strict rules prevent them from doing so and that they are duty bound to serve the public interest. What Leiserowitz said here and elsewhere is propaganda. Raskin and Harris remained silent through it all. I send a message to the podcast, but the senior producer didn't seem to be interested. If you have doubts, just listen to the espisode. Similar problems occur in other episodes.

7. More than a tech blog - Strikes the perfect balance of deeper conversions about social media than traditional media with interesting topics that still feel accessible to all types of listeners. Thank you for creating content that is informative but never dry! Would love to see you explore how social exclusion is working the same way in meta verse games such as Roblox, often used by younger users, and how this factors into this larger discussion of societal harm caused by social media.
2022-01-21
8. Separatist Psy-Op - Several episodes of this now have been pro-imperialist spins on geopolitical events that make me question this group’s intentions. This started as whistleblowing the dangers of the internet capturing our attention indefinitely and that being used as a tool against the masses, but this seems like it’s now just spreading the same imperialist messages that all other media tend to.

9. Required Listening - While this information may be disturbing or shocking to some who have been too busy doom scrolling this podcast should be on everyone’s Must Listen List. Personally I’m firmly in the “we are all doomed” camp, but it gives me a flicker of hope to hear talk about ways to improve things.

10. Most Important Content Portal I Know Of - I became aware of Tristan and Aza’s work through “The Social Dilemma” and then again recently from Tristan’s appearance on late night comedy shows, Minutes, etc after Francis Haugen leaked a trove of damming internal documents from Facebook and gave breathtaking congressional testimony //. Trevor Noah plugged their site and the “Your Undivided Attention” podcast and it is the best thing I’ve come across. Highly recommend and congratulate their team for bringing such thoughtful and incisive content to the people. I hope this inspires others to look into these issues and find ways to make positive change in their own spheres of influence.

11. Refreshing insight on who's pulling the strings - and why - I've been following Tristan and Aza for years, and love their unique insight and refreshing research on the effect of technology of social media on our lives. As of OFFline dating coach, I see the unfortunate results of tech overconsumption in my single clients, especially on dating apps - and they are spot on in their assessments and advice. Highly recommended for anyone who want to better understand how exactly your digital devices are influencing your life - and how to take back control of it.

If you care at all about the issues facing us as a society and as a human collective, this needs to be on your ‘must listen’ list. Do yourself a favor: log off and tune in.

1. Great Storytelling and History - This is the podcast I didn’t know I wanted! I have listened to about episodes now and love the stories they tell from a lot of different sources. And how they go in depth! I learn a lot and it gives me some fun Information to take with me into discussions with my husband who owns his own company.

2. Each episode is a thrill to listen to - Unbelievable well researched and narrated sagas of some of the best businesses in the world. Don’t understanding how they get to tell these stories with so much detail as if they were there. I work in the industry and learn so much every time. Both narrators are great and they should ignore comments about their laughs. They are both genuine, curious and spectacular storytellers.

3. My not-guilty pleasure - This podcast is both educational, entertaining, and a must for anyone who likes to analyze business. As an analytical person, I like to dig into the details of both the company and individuals who build interesting companies. David & Ben are well researched and do a fantastic job presenting both a well rounded and non-biased view. Highly recommend to anyone with an insatiable desire to learn.

4. Gold(or should I say Bitcoin)-mine - If you’re looking for compelling storytelling at its finest, Acquired is the perfect podcast for you. Ben and David guide you through company histories as if the founders are protagonists in a world where odds are perpetually stacked against them. Just when you though there’s no escaping the new existential threat this time, they somehow manage to preserve. Only through meticulous research and raw excitement could one tell an hour saga about Berkshire Hathaway, a . hour dive into the long-standing legacy of Standard Oil, or my personal favorite, an exploration of the mysterious and antiestablishment origins of Bitcoin. These guys are truly world class and have expanded my knowledge about startup culture, venture capital terms and society wide tech trends. Thank you for turning daily routes like washing the dishes into something I yearn for.

5. Hands down best business podcast - If you are into: history, business, business strategy, hero journeys, nerdy hosts that unapologetically LOVE their topic then you won’t be disappointed. I’ve been listening to this podcast since Season and told many people about it - hundreds of hours in and these guys keep producing quality content that gets incrementally better with almost zero production value other than great Sony mics and cameras which they tell us all about in the latest season on Sony. This podcast has taught me more about business than most of the biz books I’ve read, introduced me to great software for my startup, brought advisors and investor contacts into my life from the Slack, and challenged many of my assumptions about how business works. Don’t sleep on this.

6. Possibly the greatest podcast of all time? - Acquired's combination of history, story telling, and business analysis hit an incredibly sweet spot that make it my favorite podcast. Ben and David have been continuously improving the show since its inception, and the episodes are consistently incredible. Thanks, guys, and keep up the awesome work. Some additional feedback:
• Discovered the show a couple years ago through Software Engineering Daily.
• Really love the long, multi-part episodes.
• Also a huge fan of your crossovers with other podcasts, like TWIST.
• I’ve also found the carve-outs section to be a treasure trove.

7. Consuming episodes faster than they release them - If it didn’t take such a massive time to research, I would ask for these daily. Acquired is the first podcast I’ve listened to where the hosts just assume you’re smart - they go in depth into the complexities of various aspects of the tech industry and adjacent industries. Plus the [slack] community is top notch

8. Insightful, To the point, and deep dive into history. - Love their ability to break down the history of the company while not always looking at simply the good, but also understanding the stumbles along the way. The way these tell stories is incredible and clearly a testament to the research and due diligence. REALLY hope they eventually include either in a separate podcast or in the podcast, Founder interviews with up and coming startups. They could be what This week in startups used to be - and in my opinion be much better at it due to their research capabilities.
2022-02-27
9. My favorite podcast - I typically listen to every episode wire to wire the day it comes out. They’ve had a few misses this year but overall the show is at the top of its game. The TSMC, Standard Oil, Berkshire and Semi Deep Dives we’re incredible. But when is the multi- episode series coming on Jensen Huang/Nvidia???
2021-12-14
10. Like, totally. - I like the show and the info but hard to endure the constant barrage of the superfluous “like” and “totally”. Three “it’s like” in one sentence is very lazy communication. Perhaps they can learn to tighten up the script by simply dropping the “likes” habit and occasionally substitute “I agree” or “that’s right” (even I can think of even more alternatives) for “totally”. I’m enjoying the Standard Oil story. But I have to take a break of a few days to relax before another episode and prepare to endure another “likes” shower. I hope this is useful criticism.
2021-10-03
11. Such an awesome podcast! - My brother introduced me to the SpaceX episode and I’ve listened to (almost) every episode since. Ben and David do such a great job telling very complex and interesting stories and pulling out insights I would have never noticed if tasked with replicating them. I work in management consulting and I find this show really helpful when I’m trying to think through complex cases and interesting challenges. Well done!!
2021-09-11
12. Such a wealth of knowledge! - This is one of the most insightful podcasts that I have ever come across - I recently found it and have been binging ever since! Ben and David do such a great job of sharing their wisdom and I love how they lead meaningful conversations with guests who bring so much experience to the table. Highly recommend checking this show out - you won’t be disappointed!
2021-08-24
13. Greatest tech/business podcast out there - Ben and David are simply masterful at telling stories, organizing ideas, and effectively communicating their thoughts. The hosts create a captivating experience by stuffing every episode with insightful observations, thrilling stories, and fantastic chemistry.

1. What happened to the WSJ - This has to be a separate group from WSJ. Both light weight and biased. The recent Rosetta Stone article talked about how the recent decoding of the entire human genome (filling in the % that was missing) was groundbreaking and would change our understanding of diseases. However, the only evidence was essentially the person who did the work saying it was groundbreaking and would change our .... If "felt" like Dr Eichler and his team did a lot of hard work over something that didn't matter all that much and was deparate to make it sound important. Just give me some facts next time and you'll have me. The recent "As we work" episode was embarassing. All about the unfairness of the wage gap to women, minorities, etc. Zero from the studies which showed where, in large part, this comes from. At least for women, it's that they choose or are forced in some way to take the less intense job. So, take the town lawyer job at hours per week vs. the corporate hour a week one. You can argue against what I said, but at least mention that this data is out there. And the host must know about this, or is incompetent. The last thing we need is another NPR podcast. I'm done.

2. Pushing an agenda - The episode on police training lost me. Implicit bias is a sham. The result of experiments are not repeatable and don’t hold up to scientific scrutiny. Why is it presented as gospel truth here? There are legitimate concerns about its efficacy and it was presented as an unimpeachable scientific finding along with the implication that there’s a significant proportion of the population who it is making racist and therefore marginalizes a portion of society. This is a despicable and ideologically driven effort to rebrand the Marxist idea of false consciousness and foist it on all society. The Wall Street Journal should be ashamed of itself for this poor quality “reporting” or “content” or “narrative” or whatever you want to call it. Shameful display and it made me question what else I’ve missed in past episodes that I’m not as knowledgeable on to know where I’m being presented ideology instead of reality. To be a bit more concrete in my criticism, the episode spoke on a program that has people play as a black person throughout their life and then talks about how the result of that was having peoples’ minds changed about race and justice, but there is an immense amount of special pleading involved here considering the life story is a narrative written by someone, who by their statements in the episode, it can be assumed has a specific idea of race in America which is taken as reflective of reality when it may not be. That’s special pleading. They’re making the argument contingent on the depiction of reality they present despite there being ample evidence that their depiction is flawed that they choose to ignore. Once again, this is a shameful display by the WSJ and is reflective of how our journalistic class has fallen. Be better.

3. Bite-size Information - The topics covered in this podcast are very timely and important to our shared future. Also, this little gem is a nice way to escape the often negative news that encapsulates us. I would like to hear several episodes that touch upon the state of the art with regard to human rejuvenation. Please keep up the excellent work!

4. Flippant and Inaccurate - Undertones of anti-corporation and anti-tech from Luddite reporters who are uneducated and under qualified. No data, irrelevant guests/company profiles, and plainly false and inaccurate reporting. Full disclosure: I was only able to formulate this opinion as an industry expert in delivery after listening to the latest pod (April ). Don’t let the name brand full you!

5. Love the show don’t like the download glitch - Listened to the show for almost a year- great content that’s always interesting and topical. Great guests and editing. Only issue is times now past episodes I’ve already listened (some from April/May ) get auto-re-downloaded. So now unsubscribed and will download individual episodes.

6. Listening to a Wikipedia article - The information in this podcast is excellent, unfortunately the presentation is painfully boring. It feels like I asked Siri to read aloud a chapter of a textbook. I listen, as I’m sure others do, to podcasts with engaging hosts. Please focus more on character than just purely information.

7. As always, WSJ invites hallucinating guests knows little about facts in their imaginary way - As always, WSJ invites hallucinating guest knows little about facts in their imaginary way. 8. Do you like scientific podcasts with strong political biasses? - Then you've come to the right place! I'm always weary about checking out the Apple recommended podcasts because they are typically strewn with political agendas even if it's a podcast about snails. But I read the description of this podcast and hoped that maybe, just maybe, here is a podcast that sticks to its described scientific narrative. I was proven wrong within the first couple of minutes. The people running the podcast cannot stay on task and explain the episode subject in an enticing way, but rather have to rain down on their own parade by drowning their content with political nonsense that is not necessary for their narrative. Avoid!!!

9. The Wall Street Journal needs to do better - This show has incredibly low production quality for a show that has a team of producers. There is no understanding of the difference between radio and podcasting. The music production is overbearing even for a radio show. They heavily advertised the show on their other podcasts and then seemingly forgot about it after just a few weeks. It seems to be just a more expensive version of the WSJ tech news briefing. Neither Jennifer Strong nor Tanya Bustos have knowledge of the tech industry to provide any kind of on the fly insight into their beat. The Times Daily podcast way outpaces The Future of Everything in terms of content, branding, production quality, social engagement, relevance and writing, and they publish the same length episodes every day.

1. Great first episode - What a needed addition to the media landscape of actionable optimism. I had no idea about Trever Noah’s tech consulting experience all these years and was very impressed with the hosts’ conversations to stay at his level (as I was expecting the opposite). My fav insight was around analyzing chatgpt and our opportunity to see humanity and our contexts anew through the lens of this non-human perspective growing up right now. And my second was the perspective that humans take a lot to change (our egos being a big part of that) but changing computational bias, once caught, is just a patch away.

1. Is this entertainment instead of tech.? - Not sure how to say this politely, but this long-time listener is struggling with the recent turn away from insightful coverage of tech. law, innovation, and accountability to …entertainment coverage? In the past few weeks, I heard multiple discussions of TV shows like This Is Us and just one short segment on Section . Has Verge’s beat changed? (Or do I misunderstand it?) Not sure who makes the editorial decisions, but the turn correlated with Alex Kranz (spelling?) being a regular voice on the show (unless I am mistaken). My attempt to be constructive: Maybe Verge could spinoff a separate podcast for this off-the-beaten path stuff if enough people like it (a bit like Decoder or Why’d You Push That Button). Apologies if I am just misunderstanding something.
2023-03-02
2. Kranz isn’t ready for primetime - I came here right after listening to the most recent episode, about the Twitter and Google Supreme Court cases. That segment just highlighted a lot of Kranz’s weaknesses as a host. She seems uninformed about the basic facts the guests are going to present, and she has a bad habit of starting up metaphors that fail, then passing it off as a joke (“umm, who’s the sheep farmer here?”). Adi Robinson, David Pierce, James Vincent - strong hosts/guests! More of them. Kranz knows her stuff when it comes to chip generations, desktop hardware, and e-ink devices. I appreciate her insights there. But hosting’s not her thing.
2023-02-25
3. Cranz needs to be replaced - I know this is the millionth review noting the dire need for Alex Cranz to be replaced, but it can’t be overstated enough, she’s terrible. She just interrupts and has terrible quips that I feel like the other hosts aren’t really even fond of. Nilay, while being seriously negative about almost everything nowadays, is the only thing keeping the Vergecast together. I dread the weeks every once in a while he’s not on an episode because Cranz can’t host to save her life. Her stories are bad, her jokes are never funny, and she knows the least out of any host to ever be on the show. The Verge badly needs to reevaluate its supporting hosts, because if Nilay ever leaves, the podcast is going to crumble with Cranz and I know I’ll finally need to give up listening after years.
2023-02-08
4. Learn how the world works - How are y’all still complaining about age old things like upgrading your phone yoy and how the pro phones are the only interesting versions. Fix your friggin broken record player speech. Too much anti apple rhetoric. Feel like I’m being bullied for enjoying my apple products and enjoying the features. Maybe they should talk to some survivors that were saved due to the crash detection and ask how they feel about still being alive.
2023-02-05
5. It’s good and reliable - but I wish Nilay would stop using “architecting” as a verb though. It devalues the noun for those who have endured years of school and testing to obtain the license. Kanye really showed up to the GSD and did us dirty.. PS, I’m still that bot using my surface book to show off renderings to clients. PSS, please bring back jokes about starlink.
2023-02-01
6. Nilay has become extremely negative - TMZ of tech CEOs - The show has become less about tech news and more about Nilay’s personal opinions on politics and anecdotes about big tech- gossip news. He’s entitled and dismissive to the other presenters. Thankfully the other presenters are more about facts and news. I like the new guy (David?) and Alex a lot. I’m happy to hear their opinions when they’re presented as opinions and not facts. I didn’t realize the degradation of Nilay until he was gone. Now he’s back and it’s more entitled complaining. He’s trying to make the show the TMZ of tech CEOs. I just don’t care about Nilay’s unqualified and unprofessional opining on employment law. Interview a professional.

7. We need someone to take over Dieter’s role.. and Alex ain’t it - Been listening to this podcast since the days of “This is my next” .. and the first vergecast episodes were the best, and it was an amazing cast with Joshua Topolosky, Nilay Patel, Joanna Stern, and Paul Miller. That formula was just incredible. Right now, it’s just a cringe-fest and weird reactions that don’t make any sense, and poor Nilay is trying to fix it on the spot. We need to replace Alex with someone similar to Joanna … there were other vergecast reporters over the years that left unfortunately and they had that spirit, that formula, that right mix to make the show a success. I really hope they can do it better from where it is today.
2023-01-20
8. Host Alex Cranz, no thank you - I’m sick and tired of Cranz’s bad jokes, snarky sarcasm and ignorant questions. Such as: “Why would Apple put micro LED on a Apple Watch, when e-ink displays exist?” Your audience aren’t idiots! The show is now just reductive and unfunny. Want to promote diverse voice? Have Jennifer Pattinson or Becca Farsace on the driving seat. They are great tech journalists with actually interesting points of view. You got a whole crew of interesting and fun people! Cranz is not one of them.
2023-01-13
9. I really really love this show but please replace Alex Cranz - Things started to go sideways when Alex Cranz became a regular host. She made way too many false claims in each episode and generally lack knowledge on a lot of the discussed topics. I think she writes awesome articles but doesn’t really do well as the podcast host.
2023-01-06
10. Full of snark - The Vergecast has completely devolved into a snark-fest. Where there used to be meaningful, yet funny discussion about tech, it’s now just hosts riffing off each other with terrible sarcasm and smug hot-takes. There’s no discussion anymore, just patting each other on the back with bad jokes. Maybe it’s the departure of previous hosts and the negativity of the past few years in general, but the show has changed enough for me to peace out.
2023-01-06
11. Alex Cranz … ugh - Nilay is probably the smartest tech journalist out there. Alex Cranz makes at least forehead-slapping obviously false assertions every show, to the point that Nilay has to walk back what she says again and again and she just keeps saying wrong or misleading things without taking the hint that maybe she should do some basic research on the snow topics before they hit record. Why does The Verge employ this person? Why is she on this podcast?

12. You’ll be more intelligent, feel stupider - Sometimes I track everything and love the perspectives etc. other times, it’s a very unique experience like when they discussed Matter…where I got every conjunction and verb—all the elements of the sentences…most the nouns. But at the same time, it was a conversation in a completely different language. And all I knew for sure was the knowledge was unattainable. No need for optimism. But know what you will understand is worth the…that part. And also, listen for classic lines like “puns are like bullies, ignore them and they will go away.”

13. Air Headed with a Sturdy Base - David Pierce’s conversation with the guests he brings on the show is when the Vergecast is at its best. It’s something akin to Hard Fork with Casey Newton with a dash of Reply All, and that’s when the Vergecast is the best. Nilay has never been engaging to me. It’s like he’s too high up and close to the people and companies he’s commenting on for it to feel authentic or transparent for that matter. Alex Cranz is just the show’s sore spot! I can’t uncringe until she’s done talking. I feel guilty, but I am a bit relieved when she’s cut short or they move on from her tweets-turned-comments on the podcast. Let David Pierce lead and bring the Casey Newton quality and angles (back) to Vox’s tech coverage. It’s good coverage, okay commentary, and minimal journalism.

1. Great benefit to full time working parents - I am a full time remote working Director for my company and a mother of two young kids. Implementing Cal’s strategies have taken me out of being the middle man and saved me so much grief. Specifically, using Smartsheet to manage team project communications, referring any external persons to Calendly, and the time block planning method. Thanks to Cal’s advice, I actually have time for gasp hobbies, walking my kids to and from the bus, and I enjoy my work days.

2. Long overdue five star rating - I’m a physician and father of young kids. I have looked around for different sources to help improve productivity; decrease over-scheduling, distraction, and stress; and focus on the more fulfilling things in my life. Deep Questions and Cal’s books have provided the most useful guidance I have come across in years, even though I am not a modern knowledge worker. Thank you for excellent evidence-based ideas and concrete advice on applying them. The regular weekly newsletters and podcasts help me feel continuity and some sense of community. Keep up the good, slowly productive work.

3. Is Jesse necessary ? - Look,if it was only Cal I would’ve rated this a out of but i come checking on the podcast after some time and there’s this new guy Jesse who hasn’t written any books, who isn’t an MIT professor, who hasn’t done anything “so good that it can’t be ignored” and is given me his opinion on what Cal is saying,it’s almost like Cal took a random guy out of nowhere and decided to record with him from then.

4. Being Intentional - I discovered Cal Newport’s body of work at Powells bookstore in Portland, Oregon, where “So Good They Can’t Ignore You” was featured as an Employee Favorite. Later, I found Cal’s Deep Questions podcast, where he enjoyably(!) unfolds his personal pursuit of what he calls Lifestyle Centric Career planning. The basic idea is that your life plays out in real places among real people, and these affect your ability to live well and grow - to do purpose-driven deep work rather than shallow work, to attend to all areas of life, not only work. When I listen to Cal, these Somerset Maugham story lines come to mind:
"Most people, the vast majority in fact, lead the lives that circumstances have thrust upon them, and though some repine, looking upon themselves as round pegs in square holes, and think that if things had been different they might have made a much better showing, the greater part accept their lot, if not with serenity, at all events with resignation. They are like train-cars traveling forever on the selfsame rails. They go backwards and forwards, backwards and forwards, inevitably, till they can go no longer and then are sold as scrap-iron. It is not often that you find a man who has boldly taken the course of his life into his own hands. When you do, it is worthwhile having a good look at him.” I had the good fortune to actually live a Lifestyle-Centric-Career-Plan life, and I highly recommend it! So, I hope you tune into Deep Questions podcast. And, on occasions when you’re trying too hard, loosen up the gears with a dose of calm perspective-shifting via Reveri self-hypnosis app, developed by Stanford MD, Dr. David Spiegel, whose own body of work exemplifies working deeply.

5. Just wow - It’s hard to believe that this is free. Cal, the wisdom that you offer, with a lighthearted and kind spirit, is wonderful. I’m constantly sharing episodes with colleagues, friends and family. Pure gold! If David Allen and Andrew Huberman had a baby … it might be a lot like you! Thank you for all your hard work on our behalf.

6. Great ideas explained - to improve your life - This podcast is great. I have been listening to it for a year or so. If you are a knowledge worker and you are looking for ways to improve your life through productivity and mental shifts, I think this is one of the best places to go. I just love Cal's energy and the way he explains concepts. He also has a good amount of humor thrown in to keep it fun and not too dry. His books are great as well.

7. So Good It Can’t Be Ignored - I love this podcast (along with Cal’s incredible body of work) and am so grateful for the deeper insights, reminders, recommendations and new information. An added bonus: Cal is HILARIOUS! Keep up the good work! P.S. Cal, please don’t EVER stop talking about baseball… even if your team is the Nats. Go Giants!

8. Two issues - Good content here but two things I wish would change—one is that Newport seems to be doing an impression of talk radio hosts he has listened to, with long pauses between words, etc. He should just use his natural voice. The other is that he overdoes it with the self-deprecating humor, and jokes in general. Not his fault, he’s just not that funny. If I want self-deprecating humor I can listen to Conan O’Brian, who is funny. Let’s focus here on the substance instead.

9. A Deeper Dive into Deep Work - Whether you’re a fan of Deep Work and want to learn more… or you’ve read all of his books already, this is a great listen because it ties all of his concepts together. It’s a glimpse into the lab where his concepts are being put to work to help people. The first part of the shows often touches on new ideas he’s exploring. This is followed by listener questions which help to sharpen how various ideas and tools can be applied. Highly recommended.

10. Growing Alongside Cal Newport Since - From -, Cal helped me earn a high GPA in college via his “Zen Valedictorian” philosophy. After that, his book “So Good They Can’t Ignore You” helped shape my work life. As I went through my s and into my s, his books “Deep Work” and “Digital Minimalism” helped me navigate the digital tsunami engulfing my life. This podcast is weekly access to Cal and his current cutting edge thoughts. He is a remarkable off-the-cuff speaker and has a tremendous sense of humor as well. This podcast is the epitome of digital “health food.”
2022-06-06
11. Life Changing - Cal’s ideas range from everyday experiences of smartphone use, exercise routines, and family admin, to surviving hardship, finding meaning, and career planning, to broader societal critiques and questions of digital ethics. These ideas have deep philosophical underpinnings, and are conceptually connected to form a coherent and beautiful philosophy known as the Deep Life. This podcast is a place to witness cutting edge ideas being formed in real time, and to receive advice from a pioneer of the self-help genre. Cal and his producer Jesse also make a hilarious duo, and have somehow managed to make ad-reads of Athletic Greens and Zoc Doc Dot Com enjoyable. Listen to each episode in order, take notes, and share with everyone you know.

12. No deep thinking just a rehash of news - I go to podcasting to escape the news and stretch my mind. So you can imagine how excited I was to listen to this podcast. Until I realized what they really planned to talk about were not ideas and how to manage them but news. And specifically the most talked about man: Elon Musk. So the episode was a rehash of opinions on Elon. As if we didn’t hear enough about him. So much for deep thinking.

13. Re Shop Class as Soulcraft episode - Ok, I have to admit I found your podcast because I searched to see if any podcasts had discussed the book. I think I found SCAS in when I read an article in the LA Times about a furniture maker that was inspired by reading it. Totally spoke to me as I’d worked in corporate world for years, Fortune Cos, meetings, meetings about meetings, reports about productivity, made to read management books like “who moved my cheese,” ( )& I left to have my own design firm & do lots of manual labor. SCAS came out in right after the mortgage/housing bust sent the economy into recession & we are currently in this Covid economic mess (not for all, obviously, but likely for the mid level managers SCAS speaks to). I found it kind of funny when you were talking about that this book didn’t inspire you to be an electrician or a motorcycle repairman, but you saw you it motivated people towards other measurable goals (I hope I’m gettin the general idea correct!). Anyway, this book totally inspired my inner handyman & explained to me why building, making fixing stuff is so soul satisfying. Matt Crawford put into words what I knew intrinsically already to be true. And, when the world finally does descend into complete chaos, you’re gonna want somebody that can fix stuff.

1. Cringe hot takes - I want to like this. It’s just too tiring and life is too short. The show presents good topics of discussion but unfortunately regularly devolves into judgmental and opinionated hot takes. It’s one thing to have an opinion - but when it clouds your intellect it’s not a good look. Episode is an example. Jason uses the word “woke” which then triggers Molly into going off in a rant about how that’s a derogatory term used by people who don’t care about other people’s feelings, and then proceeds to single out a race and gender as being the issue (the irony). No biggie right, but this episode is about bias in AI, particularly ideological bias on the part of people involved with model implementation and guard rails (eg censorship). A point of discussion begins to center around whether subjectivity is appropriate for ai generated responses. However there seems to be obvious tone deafness (subjectivity) in picking examples over which ideological targets are subjectively answered and therefore inappropriate. The irony. TLDR: this is like listening to NPC hot takes of the news. It’s a shame because they could be so much more if they allowed their own views evolve more often.

2. Sacks the Undertaker Choke Slams TWIST Cast - Sacks body bagged Jason in the latest All-In episode, though, this I suppose isn’t anything new... BUT it reminded me that JCal can only differentiate himself when his surrounding by people that are only at the level of Molly or below. Sacks also said that All-In ratings outsmoke TWiST. Has to be because TWiST is weight down by Molly. And other than JCal, All-In is a star studded podcast. Except when JCal is sick. His most reasonable points are made when his sick. In any case, JCal should just phase out this podcast.

3. No longer valuable - I used to listen consistently for many years. Lately, I skip most episodes and end up abandoning most I start. Except when there’s interesting guest, content is mostly banal, surface level and gossipy, with many ad interruptions. I miss the deeper and insightful conversations that kept me loyal listener for years. At this rate, I may unsubscribe altogether.
2023-01-10
4. TWiST Goes Chapek - This show, thanks largely to Molly Wood, has gone full Chapek. I hope, just like in the case of Disney, the cycle follows suit and Iger returns. Go woke go broke. Jason has become a pathetic weasel puppetting MWs gross faux-liberal sound bites. Not her own btw, she steals them from journalists on MSM shows that she loves. This show is hilariously bad.
2023-01-06
5. Molly Wood is simply bad at this - Molly Wood is bad at podcasting/conducting a conversation/adding value. She continually interrupts and talks over Jason, derailing excellent trains of thought. Her vocabulary consists of “bonkers,” “ridiculous,” “crazy,” which have no real meaning in context and add zero value to thought or discussion. The image Molly chose of Christine McCarthy was cruel and stupid, really shows the interior life of who
Molly is, she’s not a good fit for Jason. She brings the whole format down.

6. good information but... - i appreciate Jason for creating this pod! the informations are priceless and the guests are top notch! i learned a lot from this pod but.... Molly "Karen" Wood can be very distracting with her tangents, so much that it derails from the topics that they were originally discussing and thus ruins the flow of the conversations for me. Jason is doing an exceptional job in reeling her back in and going back to topic. i still listen because of the information and just try to fast forward through "Karen's" rants and tangents.

7. An “I’m better than you” attitude - Great info / discussions about start ups, angel investing & market dynamics. But, wow. Molly ruins the whole vibe with nothing but animosity towards any political leaning to the right of super-progressive left. I don’t think most listeners are here for that; at least I’m not. It’s kind of a shame because they have great synergy with each other and the conversation flows very well with tech / market news. It’s almost like she’s touting an “I’m better than you” attitude to anyone who doesn’t think or have crafted opinions exactly like hers. Tone down the obvious political skew a little and I think the pod would be top notch. Wishing the best of luck to Jason & Molly!
2022-09-09
8. This Week in Fake Political Outrage - Been listening to Jason since the beginning. Sorry to say but since Molly joined, I find myself skipping episodes or fast forwarding through others. I want to hear about startups and building businesses, not woke political crap. Stop with the PC takes and just give the startup/business news.
2022-09-08
9. Stick to business and not wokensss - Jason does a decent job, however he’s the woke guy on the All-In, so I don’t know why he needed to add a leftist/corporate journalist co-host. Maybe it’s about putting out more content, but more opinions that mirror the agenda of the agenda of mainstream left should stick to CNBC and not podcasting.
2022-07-02
10. A podcast they don’t want you to listen to - With the obnoxious ads- in minutes I felt like I was listening to an Alex Jones show or a mid s morning drive. The hosts can’t get through a single topic without multiple ads reads. The livestream is the only real way to consume this, the final product is just a wrapper for commercials
2022-07-01
11. Old format was so much better - Agree with all of the reviews complaining about the new format. This used to be one of my favorite podcasts and now I can’t make it through a whole episode. I personally don’t have anything against Molly’s political leanings, but I really wish she were a more aggressive interviewer. I feel like I learned way more about companies / founders when Jason was doing the interviews. (For the record, I’m a woman). Unfortunately I’m done listening to this podcast and hoping to find another covering start up news in a more engaging format.
2022-06-29
12. No longer a show for early-stagers or first-time founders… - Have listened since , before I founded my startup…But the format and topics have definitely taken a turn in the past year and no longer feel as applicable to the startup journey. It’s still a good show for techies and tech companies, just not “startups” to the same degree that it once was. This is likely a function of how the market has also moved and how the economy has changed, but I’m now on the hunt for a podcast that gives me the same early stage, scrappy info:inspo nuggets for which I used to rely on TWIS.
2022-06-24
13. JARRING TO LISTEN! DO RESEARCH - I remember this use to be a lot more informative and the two at least put in effort to research what they’re talking about. Find myself listening to surface level crap. Time for Molly and Jason to DOUBLE CLICK and actually go deeper into things instead of this off-the-cuff, dumbed-down and jarring discussion they have weekly.

1. Best Podcast. Love to trivia!! - Although sometimes it is hard as a audio listener, I live this podcast. It is entertaining, fun, and easy to follow. If you love MKBHD like I do, you will LOVE this pod. If there is a MKBHD employee reading this, I appreciate all that you do and keep up the incredible content!!!

2. great - really conversational down to earth good, current topics. david was an amazing addition to the dynamic as well, love his extra perspective. cool to hear adam & ellis chime in occasionally too. thank you for making tech tech news accessible and also entertaining at the same time. also we need mac on as a guest :)

3. Great Show with Two Minor Complaints - Overall, this show is great. It’s engaging, funny, and entertaining. There are two things that bug me though. First of all, I know there is a video version, but I listen to it as a podcast. And while there’s nothing wrong with the video, sometimes I feel like I’m missing something because I’m not watching. You guys talk about something “on screen” that I can’t see and instead just feel confused and left out. At the very least, explaining it to the viewers would be amazing.
The second thing is that I’m not as smart as you guys. There are times when I’m completely lost when your talking about the Snapdragon chip or whatever. Sometimes you ask each other “do you know about this?” Then everyone answers yes, and you just talk about it. Educating the listener would be nice, it would make it a bit easier to follow along with. Just assume that we don’t know about it.
But I do strongly recommend this podcast. But those tiny tweaks would make this an easy star review. Thanks!

4. Adding David was a GOOD move - [Updated Review] Happy they added David as a rd guest, he brings a lot more energy and spark to the Marques and Andrew dynamic that felt a little stale in the beginning. Also having the producers (?) chime in every once in a while is great. Way better chemistry all around. Much more interesting and fun to listen to. Perfect at .x speed. The video podcast is so great it’s difficult to listen knowing I’m missing that. [Original Review] Really needs a third guest, or someone with just more energy. Both hosts are very stable speakers that are that missing diametric chemistry of a sensible host a more aggressive host (ie. Dieter vs Nilay on the Vergecast, Linus vs Luke on WAN Show). Just feels boring, they’re reading the news and giving generic opinions. Production on the accompanying videos is great. I just find Vergecast to give profoundly better insights into tech, but to be fair MKBHD in general gives more vanilla opinions for the masses while on Quinn (SnazzyLabs) & Dave (DaveD) are more nuanced. Podcasts should be the front for unique behind the scenes insights, not generic news, save that for videos.

5. Apple disdain - Even when a company does a good thing for the consumer, they go out of their way to let you know the company is doing it for a reason. As if we don’t know. Of freaking course they are doing it for some other reason. Be happy. Whatever the reason is, it benefits us to have a standard wireless format that aligns…

6. -Keys to the internet was fantastic! - This most recent -keys to the internet was a fantastic podcast. Incredibly well produced and researched, and very captivating and informative. It even reminded me of the style of a Radiolab podcast! Good job all. I look forward to hearing more semi-journalistic podcasts like these form you all!

7. Inviting none tech people? - I love the show since it’s begging, but this Hasan Minhaj episode was special: talking tech with people that aren’t fans of tech. It gives you perspective on things, it allows Marques and Andrew to develop and articulate their points of view… I would see this kind of episodes again as special editions episodes.

8. Perfect for any tech nerd - I happen to fall into the category of tech nerd I watch all of the release events for all of the major tech companies like apple,Samsung, and google as well as any others I might find interesting. This podcast is a great way to keep up with all things tech and is amazing for anyone who loves tech!!

9. Initial thoughts - Found the podcast through the Waveform clips on YouTube, and I’m stoked to find out the videos were just pieces of the bigger podcast. Excited to keep listening! Just one thing to nitpick at, and this is coming from another podcast editor, is that Marques’ microphone sounds distinctly worse than the other hosts, specifically episode . The clicks and crackling is quite noticeable while commuting with the volume way up than watching the videos at home. Otherwise, great podcast and will continue to listen!

10. Top tech podcast out there - I watch & listen to a lot of tech YouTubers and podcasts and MBKHD is referenced a lot so I started watching & checking out his stuff and very much enjoy it I don’t watch everyone but I do check out a lot of his Apple related ones and enjoy his stuff on some of the Samsung devices too he just has very good & interesting content. I just started listening to & watching his waveform podcast great show definitely worth watching & listening to

11. Andrew frequently interrupts Marques - I like the YouTube channel and enjoy this podcast well enough but what makes it hard to listen to is Andrew. He FREQUENTLY interrupts Marques as well as talks over him. He also will make loud verbal sounds to agree, disagree, interject, etc., which is very distracting. On the other hand, Marques is calm and respectful. Andrew’s behavior doesn’t exactly reach the point of rudeness, but his behavior is very distracting for a podcast. This in turn adversely affects my experience. As a result, I give this otherwise great podcast a /.
2022-08-28
12. Reminder: This is an audio podcast - This is a great podcast if you’re familiar with MKBHD YouTube and like a summary of things going on in tech recently. However, the podcast in the earlier episodes were format for audio listeners. More recent episodes they have really started to transition to video viewers and forgetting that audio is where they started.
2022-05-27
13. A good show about hot tech - If you like MKBHD on YouTube you’ll enjoy this podcast. I’d recommend just diving into it with current content as the older stuff is a bit rough as they were adjusting to this longer form format. Only thing I dislike is I do think there are occasions where they treat audio listeners as second class and rather than put the effort into explaining something for audio they just tell us that we should be watching the YouTube channel. Which really isn’t what I want out of this show.
