1. Perfect listening - At once highly entertaining and soothing, this podcast is like meditation except that you get to learn something, and have food for thought to chew on afterwards. Perfect for taking your mind off a tedious task, this podcast explores an important but low profile strand of history that resonates into our contemporary world. All that, and you don’t have to know any math at all to follow the story.

1. Off topic - When the hosts talk about actual math, the podcast is informative and interesting. When they begin speculating on non mathematical topics (elitism, human transcendentalism, etc) they quickly start sounding pretentious and uninformed. Overall the quality of content varies wildly from episode to episode based on topic.
2022-05-27
2. Unique brilliance - These two fellows have a wonderful and unique perspective on the philosophy of math and its role in the human and seeing how our history and many other facets. The information is very intriguing valuable and well packaged the banter is under matched. It’s not for the light hearted or fickle it does require one’s full attention and you may have to listen a few times to the podcast. Every time you do, you will learn something new, guaranteed.
2021-02-14
3. Good math; some dumb comments - This is a moderately interesting podcast with fair explanations given an audio format. But when they comment on other things (cults, elitism ) they can be somewhat clueless. One guy is real smart, the other isn’t. In their attempts to present the material at a beginning high school level much of what they present is so diluted as to be purely metaphorical.
2020-07-23
4. Hmmmmm - I’m gonna agree with the last guy who said “painful” noting to the host stumbling through a question for minutes only to allow guest a few words before being interrupted. Though that response was a bit of a roast, I do agree with the premise of it. Seems like the host is like rushing is there a time limit for pod casts or something? But this pod cast is cool
2020-04-26
5. Episode was painful - Mostly, the volume needs to be consistent. The voices constantly change from too low to too high, so that as I adjust volume for one speaker, I have to adjust for another.
I really wanted to keep listening, but it was too frustrating. Also, there were other minor things that annoyed me, but it feels petty to write then all out. I’ll try another, and update my review if my interest improves.
2019-12-01
6. A bit drawn out. . . - Particularly with the interview of the developer of Mathbot.com, there are numerous studies that demonstrate the negative influence of using external rewards to manipulate children into accomplishing whatever tasks. Interestingly, his last words about the state should be applied to himself and what he is doing with Mathbot. I have no objection to the software itself — only the promulgation of rewards. Of course there are instances when rewards can be used and are effective, but to paint in broad strokes, this way of using rewards does not aid in child psychoeducational development.

7. The show for math geeks - As a recent graduate in math i have to say this show is perfect. They cover the math behind such interesting subjects, some of which i hadn't much thought of as related to math at all. They explain them in layman’s terms as best as possible but they also go through the real mathematics and equations behind them as well. If you love math, you wont be disappointed.
2018-06-16
8. Fun Show, Too Quiet - Can you please release louder episodes? It's a fun show, and I enjoy listening and learning, but the volume is so quiet typically that I have to crank my phone's and headphone's volume all the way up just to hope to hear it. And then when the next show starts, my ears get blown out.
2018-05-16
9. Beautifully Articulated - I’m a college sophomore studying physics, so I study a lot of math in my day to day life. But that being said; I miss a lot of the interesting sides of math. This podcast covers what I already know well without becoming boring, as well as what I don’t know without going over my head. In other words: it has something for everyone.
2018-04-03
10. Math podcasts are tough. THIS IS THE BEST - Finding good math podcasts by virtue of the topic is very challenging. At least it is to me. I have finally found one that strikes the perfect balance both in terms of sophistication and comprehension. I'm sure I will be bringing on them now short order. The good news is that everytime you review a podcast you learn something new.
2017-11-11
11. Breaking Math is a Blast! - Are you into math or theory? This may be your next favorite podcast. Wow. I've been listening for a couple episodes and I already feel like I've learned so much. The audio quality is great and the two hosts really hold their own with the research they do. They did the impossible: They've made math fun!
2017-05-03
12. By far my new favorite podcast - Great minds come together and explain the beauty of mathematics in a way that is simple and easy to understand. They go over everything from math in history and it's place in the esoteric underground of ancient human civilization all the way to common theory and math in our daily lives. I give it π thumbs up!

Keep it casual with the Casual Inference podcast. Your hosts Lucy D'Agostino McGowan and Ellie Murray talk all things epidemiology, statistics, data science, causal inference, and public health. Sponsored by the American Journal of Epidemiology.
Release date: 2023-02-28
Comments
1. A must-listen! - I love this podcast. It’s helped me tremendously throughout my first two years of my PhD program, leading up to my comprehensive exams. I find the way Ellie and Lucy explain things to be so clear and memorable. I’ve listened to some other epi/stats podcasts, but always prefer this one! Thank you Ellie and Lucy!
2023-01-09
2. Data Science & Causal Inference - Causal Inference is a topic that is way underrepresented in data science content for how important it is. This podcast is epidemiology-focused, but data science practitioners will find it fun and insightful as well. The hosts are very sweet and fun. So glad this show is back!
2022-02-28
3. Episodes are too long by inexperienced hosts - This podcast has potential but the hosts are just annoying and the episodes too long. Every once in a while the show is punctuated by the shrill laughter from a host. They may be having fun but not the listeners. On a podcast you want to make every word count.
2022-01-15
4. Friendly and highly informative - Variety show about causal inference? Pretty close! Interviews, news, occasional teaching segments, Q&A, and only missing the musical numbers. More seriously, the hosts are ecumenical abut the different disciplinary approaches to inference, keep things relatively nontechnical, and fun.
2021-11-25
5. Fun, insightful and highly engaging conversations with field experts. - This is a great podcast for people new to causal inference as well as those helping to advance the methods. It’s ‘casual’ and guests are buzzed if they introduce words or concepts that need definition. The hosts interview leaders in the field and the conversations are always fun and insightful. Podcasting at its best.

Release date: 2023-02-16
Comments
1. Not my favorite anymore - This show has gone downhill. Maybe they’ve done episodes on all the interesting theorems or interviewed all the interesting guests they could get. And that percussion piece’s welcome wore out long ago. We get it, your kid is musically gifted. Get something relevant or interesting. And short. Nobody wants a long intro/outgrow anymore. Get to the content.
2023-02-17
2. Very approachable - I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to follow the math without any visual aids. For example, a case of Fermat’s “little” theorem was vividly explained using Pascal’s triangle and spinning prime-dimensional hypercubes, both examples boiling down to ^p mod p. Lovely!

1. Tim is the real deal - I’m not a trained math or physics guy, but I enjoy watching science communication videos and I really appreciate Tim’s approach to not dumbing down the material and giving me a decent sense for what it takes to be a practitioner in these fields through his interviews and lessons.
2022-10-04
2. Unique combination of depth and accessibility - Cartesian Café is something you just don’t find anywhere else: real substance with a focus on making things accessible. Popularizing books almost always dumb things down to a point where you lose contact with how experts really talk about the subject. YouTube has made top level expert talks available to anyone who looks for them, but normal academic seminar talks don’t fill in details or provide context that a non-expert might be puzzled about. There are some other great math/physics podcasters, but their strengths are more to do with great lecture skills and visualizations. Only Tim Nguyen sits down with legit experts and walks them through their actual work at a pace that gives a lot more people a realistic shot at keeping up. The guests seem to love having this unique opportunity to reach people and I certainly look forward to each new episode!
2022-09-08
3. A rare glimpse into how mathematicians think - This is the perfect podcast to be a fly on the wall, observing first-rate mathematicians think through complex concepts. As an amateur mathematician I have struggled through textbooks and lectures. In those, often the presentation is something like a magic show, which conceals the intuitions behind a curtain. Here, all of that is laid bare, as Nguyen and his guest explain their own intuitions to each other, and discover new ones through the dialogue. Highly recommended.
2022-08-24
4. Shared whiteboard leads to energizing math podcast focused on ideas - Had a great time watching this show! It is hard to discuss technical content in a podcast format. Audio-only is difficult to understand, and limits technical depth or tends towards boring biography and away from ideas. The Cartesian Cafe deals with this by encouraging guests to diagram and lay out their ideas on a shared whiteboard! Tim and guests get excited together and the result is energizing Tim also does great work clarifying and prompting guests to dig into the most interesting aspects of their work. It does not feel overly technical or heavy! Looking forward to more episodes

1. Thanks - I’m currently in my senior year of undergrad, just started a structural engineering internship and seeing all the work people are doing has been very overwhelming. 1. Great Content, but Too Many Episodes of Other Podcasts - Definitely enjoy the episodes that Joel produces himself as SOAP but he also just takes episodes of other podcasts to fill out his seasons which I’m not too keen on. While I definitely appreciate the recommendations for those episodes, I want to listen to Joel’s Sum of All Parts rather than a random episode of someone else’s podcast. That’s my two cents.
2019-09-19
2. Art is Math is Life - As someone who doesn’t know much about mathematics but wants to learn more, I feel like Sum of All Parts stands out sharply from the dearth of relevant, intelligible (for the uninitiated) math podcasts. I’m trying to get less dumb, and this show has been a great perspective on the world in the language of numbers. Keep up the good work, guys! PS: And keep it mathy. I like the challenge

3. pretty awesome - I found a new favourite podcast! This didn't disappoint. 1. Amazing material - The quality of the material and research make this podcast stand out on its own. The presentation and exploration of cryptographic topics is well crafted, and as a bonus the guests he finds to discuss topics related to cryptography and cryptanalysis add even more.
Thank you for making this, can’t wait for the next one, and I highly recommend it to anyone interested in security, cryptography, and privacy!

Relatively Prime features stories and interviews from the mathematical world. Featuring math stories from people like Fields Medalists to indie rockers to linguists on topics ranging as wide as the artificial intelligence which defeated checkers and mathematics haiku battles. Relatively Prime has a mathematics story for anyone and everyone.
Release date: 2020-11-09
Comments
1. It's a podcast! - There aren't a plethora of mathematics podcasts, but this one certainly is good. I would appreciate it if there were more technical expositions available. I would like to be able to listen to the experts freely speak of techniques that they use, however, this seldom happens. On the whole it's a good podcast for general audiences.
2018-01-21
2. The True Final Frontier - When a child goes through school, their exposure to math as field is, in actuality, is incredibly small, and, unfortunately, many grow up believing that is all math is. Relatively Prime seeks to change that. From understanding the th dimension to the creation of art through math, or more aptly how math is art, Relatively Prime brings the viewer on a guided tour through the unknown and unimaginable.
2017-07-08
3. Mathcast for Everyone - Sam does a great job of telling Math-related stories in a way that makes you feel like you can hang, even if you haven’t done any math since high school. It’s a smart show that entertains and informs and I defy anyone to listen to an ep and then try to make the argument that math isn’t interesting!
2016-01-25
4. Storytelling meets mathematics - Samuel Hansen is not just a mathematician. He’s not just a great podcast host. He’s a talented storyteller with a great nose for finding the interesting, HUMAN side of mathematics that most people rarely get the chance to see. Relatively Prime is great listening, and the math side of things just makes it even better.
2016-01-08
5. Worth your time - I was consistently impressed by the last season of this show. I particularly liked the episode about "solving" the game of checkers. Just a really great set of interviews and subjects, presented so that you don't have to be a math expert to understand. Excited about the new episodes!
2016-01-08
6. Who knew math was this fascinating? - Sam explores mathematical stories that aim to be simultaneously fun and captivating. As someone who was glad to see the backside of mathematical academia upon graduating, I was skeptical diving into Relatively Prime. The sometimes tongue-in-cheek narrative is balanced well with facts and interviews with vetted experts, and it's almost like jazz in the way it walks the line between playful and masterful.
2016-01-04
7. Making math accessible - I was looking for a podcast about mathematics along the lines of Radiolab, and this fits the bill. Good math based stories that keep you interested but are not so technical that they leave you dizzy. The stories have led me to research a number of topics after being introduced to them on Relatively Prime. The episode about Chinook is particularly good.
2013-03-03
8. Sadly boring. - I love math. I love RadioLab. So when I heard this was like a combination of the two, I was excited. How disappointing! Topics that should be fascinating become dull as experts are allowed to ramble, with no smart editing to make them cut to the chase. The background music is applied with almost no sense of context. And Samuel, the narrator, is grows irritating with his painstakingly deliberate enunciation. As much as I'd like to given the great concept, I just can't recommend this.
2012-12-13
9. Brilliant - Samuel does an incredible job getting to the pieces of math that should excite everyone. The material is far from boring and it keeps me coming back for more. The content is ample backstory with strong ties to the maths involved in each interview. Love it, love it, love it. I hope to hear more very soon!
2012-11-25
10. Great Podcasts! - I love these podcasts! Listened to the first three, each very interesting. While these have a math theme, no deep mathematics is required The podcasts engage both the seasoned mathematician and the novice. I listen to these during long, boring exercise workouts -- and it makes the time go quickly.
2012-10-01
11. It turns out math is cool after all - I have recently begun homeschooling my fourth grader. I was dreading math but, it turns out that I am enchanted. Thank you for putting out a show that inspires me to rediscover mathematical ideas in useful and quirky ways. Where we're you when I was struggling in the early grades??
2012-09-19
12. Fascinating & Fun with Math (says a sociologist!) - This podcast is incredibly well-produced. It is easy to listen to and anyone paying attention can learn from it (no mathematical background required!). I especially liked the inquisitive, excited tone. Huge thumbs up to the latest and greatest podcast in my rotation!

1. Winning formula - I’ve never been much of a math guy, but I like learning about the natural and scientific world, and math is an integral part of that. My experience with math as entertainment is that many creators struggle to find a balance between in-depth, interesting discussions and a beginner-friendly level of discourse. These guys have it. Part of it is their expert knowledge, part of it is their clear love of the subject, and the most essential aspect of their achievement is a wide breadth of teaching experience, including elementary-age instruction. It’s an impressive success, but mostly it’s just great to listen to.

Comments
1. OK content, bad presenting - This is a podcast I just can't bear listening to. The content is fine, not amazing but interesting. However, the audio quality is most times terrible. I have to turn my volume way up to listen to what someone is saying, and then suddenly a second voice will come exploding my ear drums, because there is no audio equalizing. There's some bad quality recording, too, and no appearent treatment, so even with the volume on max, it's sometimes very, very hard to understand what someone is saying.
2011-10-18
2. Wonderful Podcast - A very well done podcast on history and people (and jobs!) in mathematics. Professionally produced. This podcast shows that there is much more to maths than cold equations. Rather, mathematics is a distinctly human endeavour and each podcast is a human interest story. Keep up the great work!

8. Phenomenal Podcast - I love the intro as it in no way prepared me for what I thought was next. However it was very clever to draw me in. I listened to three of the podcasts to start. Phenomenal, the one that stood out most to me was VickyVaVoom. The interaction between the two of them was very smooth, easy flowing and showed signs of a great friendship. It also displayed Pharaoh’s great listening skills, which allowed time for Ms. Vicky to completely answer the questions and draw the listeners in. Great job Pharaoh, the part about the maid of honor and bride was by far hilarious and definitely kept my attention. Keep these hidden coming.
