1. Now part of my routine! - I was off work for a week and was looking for a cleaning podcast as I get into my chores. I find myself binging multiple episodes at a time and I’m pretty sure it introduced me to getting into other parts of the house that I hadn’t considered touching this week. It’s also given me new ideas for when I get back into my busy schedule, and won’t make you feel guilty you for not being a super clean-freak /. Great guests, realistic expectations for maintaining your home when you’re not Suzy Home Maker.

2. Cas from ClutterBug - You are so special. Your charismatic personality and the very sincere, genuine thoughts you share and advice you give really has made a difference in my life and others. Your warm nature is so needed with this journey we are undergoing to simplify our lives while appreciating all the good we have already. I enjoyed when you interviewed Joshua Becker as he is also one of a kind and very influential in so many ways. I also really love Dana White and Dawn from the Minimalist mom, where the three of you shine in the Take your House Back course. I really am changing and growing for the first time in my life and so much makes sense now Thank you!

3. Cass is my spirit animal - Cass has no idea to what level she gets me. It’s like she had me at hello(Jerry McQuire).
I have made leaps and bounds in my journey of decluttering. Prior to following the Three Amigos, I was wallowing in crap. Now I seem to have a goal insight and I’m chipping away at it daily. Thank you Cass. You’re thebomb.com.

4. Wonderful! - This podcast is wonderful & sooo helpful! I am very busy with work, family & church. So my house most times falls by the wayside. I have started doing ‘one task on my list’ a day. We’ll, most days. But the FAB five will help me and my house feel Fabulous-Amazing & Beautiful! Sheila in Missouri

5. Liked it for a while then it all began to sound the same - Not gonna lie this podcast was the first thing in my life to help me get a different perspective on keeping a clean home. The problem was, it didn’t target the heart behind the cleaning. And many times Cas would drop these quotes that sounded like resentful hints to her listeners that sounded like they were meant for her husband or family to hear and feel guilty in order to help keep things tidy. I kept hearing her coming back to, “oh, I don’t want to be resentful of my husband.. could he help more? Yes!” Again I did Learn some valuable things with this podcast, but I’m also working hard to be a better homemaker and to have a heart for serving others. I was taught young that cleaning was a drudgery and only the lowest people should do it, but the facts are we all have to do things we don’t always like. We can either complain about it all the time or drop hints that we hate it or we can remember that we do it for our family, and we do it for us. We should be the person today, that tomorrow us is thankful for. Cas taught me that cleaning helps us get instant gratification and that’s true, but I don’t think her podcast is the best fit for me anymore. I want to hear about loving what you have and not just constantly throwing stuff out.

6. Echoing my inner thoughts! - Thank you for being so real and helping me realize that I am not the only one struggling. I can always find something to relate to in every episode, but the episode I listened to today, I felt like you were saying everything I had been thinking this week. The episode was about decluttering Christmas, and the part about the extra Santa gifts and the stress it brings was exactly how I was feeling about bringing a gift to daycare for Santa to give my kid… I thought about asking them to just have Santa give out candy canes next year (I would provide them even) but I thought I would come off like a Scrooge. I’m so glad I listened to your podcast to know that I am not alone!

7. Wow! - This is probably hands down one of the most informative, life changing and motivating podcasts I have come across. As the child of a clinically diagnosed hoarder, it can be really hard to change the patterns of spending, collecting and just reliving the past. If you were never taught to be “normal” then how can you live like a normal person? This podcast gives me hope that I can be clutter free and the information I missed in my formative years. Thank you for sharing your experience and wisdom with us!

8. What happened? - I used to love listening to Cas and I think I have heard every episode of her Podcast. At first I loved listening because I always picked up new ideas or the episode was thought provoking. For the past year or so, her show has taken a different turn. I think she is just out of material (I mean, really, how many episodes can you create about organization?). She’s moved more into “life coaching” which is okay, but is coming off as preachy. I need to go back and listen to older episodes to see if it’s just me, or if her voice and delivery have changed too. Every episode now she speaks so strangely. Emphasizing every word in this weird strained whisper. It is making listening unbearable. I like the idea of her tv show a lot, and wish there were more episodes of that available. Maybe use the same concept here? That’s what Dana has been doing and it’s at least new material.

9. Suburban Sadness ???!!!! Not - This episode really turned me off on your show. I am and you made it sound like life is over for this age group and over . An age group in which you aren’t even in yet ! I am happily married and my Husband and I are very active and still work on our dreams. Shame on you for this episode. I turned it off after a few minutes in . Maybe your life story should be rewritten if you feel Suburban Sadness, just saying ….

10. Best concept clutterbugs! - Relatable, upbeat, encouraging and just a charismatic individual. Cas brings her wonderful personality to something that can be so hard to even discuss about… clutter! Her concept of ClutterBugs is spot on and makes you open your eyes to the different “bugs” and the way they organize and how to compromise with the different bugs in your life. I follow different organizers and have seen so many different styles of organization, some click and some don’t and Cas’ explanation of the different bugs brings it all full circle, so you understand why certain things just work for certain people. Love her!

11. Absolutely Life-Changing! - To say that this podcast has changed my life is such a massive understatement. This goes beyond cleaning and home management hacks. Cass meets you right where you are, in the middle of your mess, and helps you dig your way out for good. All the while, she coaches, motivates, and counsels you to make the mindset shifts you never knew you needed. EVERY area of my life has been transformed through this podcast: my home, my marriage, my parenting, my finances, and the list goes on. Cass, if you’re reading this, THANK YOU! I will be forever grateful that I found this gem and pushed play!

12. Tip on helping husbands to want to help. - Hi Cas, I loved your most recent episode with lots of tips to maintain your house through the week so it doesn’t overwhelm you. You mentioned your husband not wanting to help sometimes, which no doubt rubs off on your kids. Here’s the best treatment for that. Buy the book The Empowered Wife by Laura Doyle and listen to her podcast to hear how it truly works. Even just experiment with what she says and see what you think. I guarantee you won’t turn back. As with all things, not all ideas are for everyone, but most will be. Don’t pass this up! Here’s to all marriages .

13. Good Intentions, But Misinformation - The host of the podcast is clearly so sweet and kind, and has the best of intentions, and her solo episodes are wonderful, but I’ve noticed more than once now that when she has guests, they often spew misinformation and it’s not questioned/vetted at all. In the most recent episode (), potentially dangerous misinformation about essential oils was discussed and just treated as abject truth. I know it’s tough when Western medicine can’t cure everything, but that doesn’t mean that all alternative therapies are (a) effective, and (b) safe. The guest recommends putting essential oils on damaged skin, which is dangerous, as pure essential oils shouldn’t even be applied directly to skin (a carrier oil is needed), and just a lot of misinformation was presented. I truly believe Cas has the best of intentions, but it’s hard to listen to straight-up incorrect and sometimes dangerous things being put out there as truth without feeling a little uncomfortable with the integrity of the podcast.

14. My New Best Friend!!! - I love Cassandra. She is smart, articulate, and so real. I feel like I am going to a life coach every time I listen! I love how she plunks little nuggets about herself as a way to show real life examples of what she is talking about. We learn so many profound things about her, but it’s never done in a self-centered way. She also doesn’t sound ditzy or curse a lot like some of the other podcasters. I enjoy her voice and can listen to her easily. She motivated me to stop relying so much on other people in my house and just get things done. I cleaned a hall and ended up painting it all unexpectedly when listening. Thank you, Cass! You’re my new best friend, you just don’t know me yet!

15. The best cleaning podcast! - I need tough love- and this podcast gives everything I need to get into the right mindset for cleaning/ decluttering. I went through a very deep depression and a season of life I just couldn’t stop procrastinating and accumulating stuff. I finally had a woke moment and with this podcast, I was able to finally see the light. Thank you so much!
2022-04-26
16. Incredibly Motivational! - I have spent the last decade slowly purging the unnecessary items in my home. At times I feel like I am down to the very very difficult things that I am holding on to mainly because of attachment issues. Watching Clutter Bug shows and now listening to this podcast has really helped me move past this road block! I feel like I am on my way to having my home become a solid representation of my ideal self! Thank you so much for the motivation and words of encouragement!! I am loving this podcast!!
2022-03-15
17. Life changing! - Cass has changed my life! I’ve cried while listening to her book and finding this podcast has given me life! I am super sad she doesn’t upload anymore and there are only about a dozen because I’ve now went through them all and find myself replaying her audiobook over and over for inspiration. I need more!

18. Loved the advice, can’t do the mouth sounds - I really like this podcast but had to turn it off after like episodes because she swallows and tuts like times a sentence and it was making me insane. I just can’t do mouth sounds but she really does have great advice! Just maybe needs to keep a glass of water handy or something.
2022-01-03
19. Need to Talk about Affluenza - There are definitely helpful tips in this podcast, and her positive attitude and reminder that we aren’t, can’t and don’t have to be perfect is nice. But in many ways I find this podcast depressing. She needs to talk about Affluenza. She talks about the need for continual de-cluttering, but she rarely talks about the value of BUYING LESS STUFF. So many people in the Global North, clearly Cassie included, buy and have too many things. Our air and water and very climate are being poisoned by our constant consumption and disposal of things. In one episode she talks about a bin of old cat toys. Many cats are happy chasing a crumpled ball of paper or sitting in a paper bag. No cat needs a bin of toys. In another episode, her daughter assembles a really cute outfit because after de-cluttering, she can really see what she has. Why does a child need so many clothes to start with? And the Christmas episode! She has people to buy for! She wishes she could tell more of them she would rather spend quality time than exchange gifts. Just do it! If they get offended they are not worth much anyway. They might be relieved too. And her tips on organizing wrapping paper! Wrapping paper is a pretty eco-intensive product designed for use. Wrap in old newspaper or paper grocery bags and red ribbon (it looks cute, I promise). Use and re-use gift bags

20. Hope in a podcast! - I was introduced to Cas during quarantine when her show Hot Mess House aired in HGTV. Her kindness and understanding of the struggles of her clients brought tears to my eyes. I found her webpage and scoured through everything that I could find. I recently discovered this podcast and I feel that it could be life changing. As someone who was diagnosed with ADHD as an adult about years ago, I have struggled with the shame of disorganization at work and at home. Although I feel like a “functional” adult, the effort that it takes to appear “normal” weighs on me and drains my energy. The fact that Cas shares her past and current struggles, along with solutions that worked for her and her clients give me hope! She has helped me reframe my negative thoughts about myself. Thank you for such a helpful and HOPE-FULL podcast!

21. Keeps Me Inspired - The way Cassandra conceptualizes things works perfect for my mind. I find what she shares to be practical to implement in my home and my life in general. ...Cassandra should try to be a little more confident though, she kind of puts herself down a bit and it sounds like she isn’t giving herself credit for the amazing personal growth she has experienced.

1. Lisa is just cool. - My wife and I have listened and watched Lisa on her YouTube channel and her podcast. I have to say Lisa is just cool. I like that she talks about homesteading, caring for animals, and using traditional skills that are almost at this point lost so many in a modern world. I love that she doesn’t push any of her opinions or beliefs on anyone. She’s a religious person, her husband and her homeschool their seven kids but that’s really all you need to know as far as background the rest is focused on what she’s actually doing or what she’s actually making which is pretty impressive at this point in the game when almost everyone on a podcast, wants to give their unsolicited opinion rather than teach or talk about what we all showed up to actually listen too. Thanks Lisa!
2023-02-19
2. Well Rounded and Thoughtfully Curated - I love the range of the topics Lisa covers on this podcast! Her guests are always well educated and there is so much practical information to glean from every episode. Highly recommend for any mama who wants to pursue a more traditional, simple lifestyle for her family!

3. I always come back to this podcast - I originally found Lisa on YouTube from a baby wrap tutorial and a couple of years later realized she had a podcast. After listening to many past podcasts, and listening to most of her others, I’ve really enjoyed the content and approach she has with her kids and her home. (Most likely because it’s similar to mine or at least what I hope to achieve as my family grows and changes.) I have loved listening to the interviews and have most enjoyed Toups and Co owner (I’ve made purchases and love the products), Growing Joy owner, and so many more. I was going to name more but I don’t have time to go back for names. (There were health related interviews that I loved but can’t remember their names.) I like that she is able to find a lot of really knowledgeable guests. I highly recommend this podcast to homeschool moms and anyone interested in natural living. Also, as she said in one podcast or YouTube video, some people might be here because they like listening to me talk. This is actually one reason I have stopped a few other podcasts. Voice matters. Thank you Lisa for all of your content and I’m happy for you and your family’s success.

4. Informative, easy going conversations - Lisa is very easy to listen to and always has so much information to share along with the guests she has. She keeps it real about mothering and homesteading. Most recently I listened to the episode about herbs. Totally got me deep diving into the herb world! I love it!!
2022-09-23
5. Informational homesteading pep talks - This podcast has quickly become my new favorite. I like to listen to it while taking a walk, run, or coincidentally…gardening!! The amount of useful information on gardening, canning, wellness, farm animals, diy healthy household cleaning swaps, all natural makeup, and more, that I have gathered from the array of podcasts is unmatched. So very thankful I stumbled upon this gem.

6. One of my favorites - Lisa is a great content creator. I found her podcast when looking for ways to save money and live a simpler life after becoming a mom. Through her podcast and YouTube page I’ve learned so much about cooking from scratch, money saving tips, and so much more. Her podcasts offer entertainment and education while also feeling very calm and peaceful. Which is so helpful to have as a mom to littles. Grateful to Lisa for this podcast!

7. Cursive - Hi Lisa, thank you for helping me with building my blog and being a good example to us new mompreneurers! Just wanted to share if this helps. I have a few children with dyslexia and learned about the role of cursive writing when doing logic of English. Cursive helps me to read my childrens writing early on the only time they lift up their pen is between words. Print was created because of the printer which could not join words easily. When writing fast people join letters even without knowing cursive, but the join is usually anywhere not at baseline which makes it hard to read fast writing or peoples notes. Hence doctor writing. I have switched to teaching cursive only which has proved my boys can write well. My oldest son has beautiful writing. He learned print through reading only. Anyway just a thought about cursive.

8. LOVE Simple Farmhouse Life! - OMG I love this podcast. Her voice is extremely relaxing and I love how she really goes into detail with things. It’s a very good binge podcast. You can just get lost in it. It’s so good. I’ve only listened to the first three eps so far but I LOVE it and will continue listening! I also love that there are no ads. It’s just a nice relaxing podcast with no interruptions.

9. Makes you feel confident in the homestead and business! - Absolutely love listening to this podcast! I love the music choice perfect to listen to while getting things done around the house or at a work! my particular favorite episode was on raw milk we recently just switched and have loved the change!
2022-08-22
10. Love! - I love Lisa and the Simple Farmhouse Life Podcast. She covers a little bit of everything and is always encouraging of listeners to just start somewhere! I don't live on a farm or homestead but I've been encouraged by Lisa's advice to just start incorporating things into my family's life when I can.
2022-07-23
11. It’s feels like you’re chatting with friends! - I love all of Lisa’s content but her podcast is really great to put on while I’m doing things around the house. She has a wide variety of interesting topics and guests and her interview style is fun, laid back and casual - you just feel like you’re sitting around the kitchen table chatting with friends, and who doesn’t love that? I’m always telling friends about it and highly recommend it!
2022-07-22
12. Helpful homemaking & lifestyle tips! - I am genuinely grateful I found Lisa and Farmhouse on Boone a couple months ago. Her tips and tricks to make a house a home are helpful yet doable. She’s not out to just make a buck. You can tell she actually enjoys what she does and just wants to share and provide for her family. Worth the listen for sure!

Comments
1. Now an infomercial - I used to learn from the show, but now it is so much of Joe plugging the products that sponsor him, and his own courses that cost $$$. There’s also no accountability. Apparently a product he has promoted for years had a persistent herbicide in it, but he never owned up to this and apologized to those who purchased it based on his recommendation, and instead just alluded to it in passing. That’s pretty disappointing and shows a real lack of integrity.

2. Phytoremediation - A gardening podcast that covers a very wide range of topics. Sometimes I wish they were covered more deeply, but he has guests have written a book or books on the topics. I have a topic suggestion: phytoremediation. A member of our family bought an acre that was basically used as a garbage dump. You wouldn’t believe. I am warning them not to grow food on the property. After they physically haul away everything how to get the chemicals out of the soil?? Things like walls out of old camping trailers(pressboard with a thin vinyl wall covering) that are completely disintegrated into the ground, over old tires, lots of plastic bits, and who knows what chemicals were dumped. The garden radio guy from Pennsylvania mentioned some plants that can help: sunflowers and alfalfa are two. But what to do with the plants when mature? Haul away? I suppose unfortunately with the chemical bomb that went off in Ohio this subject might be of interest. Our world needs help.

3. Keep the Geek Alerts coming! - Joe has one of the best podcasts about home gardening—period. I am never disappointed when I hear the words “Geek Alert!” These are some of the best episodes with incredible information about the cutting edge of horticulture. I listen once, and then I listen again and take notes! I love it! Gardeners never stop learning, and this show proves it. Thank you Joe and Team for producing such useful and timely content!

4. The best garden teacher - At first, I was a bit skeptical about this podcast, as I assumed Joe was more “TV guy” than “garden teacher.” Wow, was I wrong. Joe is without question the best garden teacher I have found, and his knowledge of gardening is both broad and deep. Some episodes focus on simpler “how to” topics, while others go deeper into the most detailed science of gardening, plants and soil. All are enjoyable. Most importantly, Joe is a gifted teacher. The high professional quality of his podcasts and videos are just the icing the cake.

5. Thorough Gardening Podcast - I agree with others who enjoy the podcast because of the subject matter, the host’s style and manner of presentation, and the quality of the guests on the program. I love most of the podcast. Only one aspect of the podcast turns me off and it’s the host’s appeal for reviews at the end of the program. This is the only podcast that I listen to that the host encourages listeners to write a review and include their name so that Joe might “call out” their name on the show. I want to be motivated to listen to the show because of the content not because I might hear my review read on air. I have a suggestion for the time allotted for this aspect of the show. Solicit gardening tips from listeners and share those tips with other listeners or simply offer a gardening tip for the day.

6. Thanks Joe - Joe is so easy to learn from. So many people teach like they are above the students whereas Joe teaches like a friend. His podcast is easy to listen to and really informative. Growing a greener world is the best show (PBS) and his classes are worth the time and money. I wholly recommend this podcast and visiting his website.
Thanks Joe

7. Show - I love this show but this podcast was not only an infomercial but an odd choice. Make no mistake, growing hydroponically is not organic and can never be. Plants are grown with chemicals; it’s the only way to get nutrients. Joe should change the name of his show if this is his new direction.

8. Wow! What an education - I found this podcast when I searched for organic gardening podcasts. This was the first one that came up so I decided to listen and if I didn’t like it, I would move on to whatever was next on the list. I’m still listening and I never moved on. I’ve been gardening for almost years and growing my own food for a little over a dozen years now. We had a farm for years and i grew most of our food with no chemicals along with raising cows, pigs and chickens sustainably and I also sold some produce to our local CSA. So I thought I was really knowledgeable UNTIL a I started listening to your podcast, Joe. I have learned so much and I continue to. I started with episode one and am currently listening to episode . How in the world will I ever catch up with you? My husband and I have also watched almost all of your growing a greener world shows on YouTube and PBS and my husband has all kinds of projects planned after watching your show. I can’t put into words what an inspiration you have been to us and how grateful I am for the continuing education. Your science based information presented by industry experts is priceless. Also, Joe, you are incredibly winsome and gracious as a host and your humble presentation draws us in and keeps us listening and watching. Keep up the good work, you are making a big difference!

9. Diverse, Science-Driven Information - Don’t let the TV show host moniker fool you. Joe is the best long form podcast about the latest knowledge and innovation in gardening and sustainable agricultural practices. The best thing about Joe isn’t even his deep, constantly evolving knowledge of plants and ecosystems - it is his interview skills. I venture to say he is the Tim Russert of gardening, always attracting a diverse set of experts from molecular biology to permaculture to cultural heritage of our edible landscape. The online show notes also provide a great reference for those who learn by words. Thank you, Joe, for connection a whole generation of gardening and sustainable agriculture enthusiasts! - Leo C.

10. Gardeners from Ukraine - I am an American living with my Ukrainian husband. We discovered your Oscar’s and YouTube show during the Covid pandemic and it helped us feel a part of the world. Now we are fighting back an invasion from russia. Your podcasts are still inspiring us to garden and do what we can to help others. Ukraine is the land of proud farmers - both small and big. Please remember us as you continue to help the world grow food.

11. Great American garden podcast! - I’ve gotten hooked on British garden shows and they’ve taught me a lot. However I was so pleased to come across your podcast after listening to another good American podcast: Gardenerd. I’ve seen you on YouTube but didn’t know of your podcast! It’s nice to hear more localized advice. I’m a Southern California transplant trying to create a successful garden now in Kansas-quite a change, so Any help is appreciated! Thanks for all the great information!

12. I’m addicted to this podcast! - Listen to this podcast! Not only do I get to learn about gardening, I get to learn about everything that effects my natural surroundings. Joe has the most interesting guests that not only talk about how to be better gardeners but also how to be a more responsible humans and how to take better care of the wonderful world around us. We are stewards of this earth and there are so many helpful knowledgeable guests that can educate and inform us on how to be the best care takers of the environment we can be. You can learn about seeds, bugs, weather, chemicals, tools and too many other things to
mention! Do yourself and our world a favor- listen to Joe! (PS- I have been a BIG fan of Grow a Greener World forever).

13. The best gardening podcast for nerds! - Another excellent conversation about nematodes! I’ve followed Suzanne professionally for some years, and she does a great job breaking down a complex subject for the home gardening audience. The shoutout to Pheronym was a nice surprise. (You should have Fatma Kaplan on sometime to talk about the nematodes in space.) As a nematologist and home gardener, I always learn something new from your show, with the wide range of topics you cover and the way you allow your guests to dive deep into topics. Well done! Andrea Skantar

14. The Catalyst I Needed - I’ve gardened my whole life, but it wasn’t until I started listening to the Joe Gardener show that I really fell in love with it all over again. It sparked all the curiosities and passion I had under the surface, and now I’m more confident and more excited to try all the things. I appreciate the research-based information, the variety of guests and topics, and all those show notes. I’ve listened to every episode at least twice, if not more. Thank you, Joe!

15. Thanks for all the help. - I’ve been listening for six years now growing food for six years now. You’ve given me the confidence and knowledge to grow food for my family and I really appreciate that. I’m also planning native plants all over my yard now here in Batavia Illinois Because of this podcast. I can’t tell you how much I love the podcast and the show really really appreciate all the work you do. Nick Frank. PS. my favorite part about growing food is watching my two little ones go from raise bed to raise bed picking vegetables and fruit and popping it in their mouth.

16. Great source of information and inspiration - I started listening to joe’s podcast while working on a x foot community garden plot in Anchorage, Alaska. I had no idea what I was doing! Joe and his expert guests (especially Lee Reich) helped steer me in the right direction. Now, my wife and I enjoy fresh cut veggies and flowers every night. Thanks, Joe! -Greg

17. Squash Bugs bye bye - Love all your shows!
I only turn on the TV on Saturday to watch Growing a Greener World, but it disappeared on PBS recently (I am in Cedar Rapids Iowa). So I have not turned my TV on in over a month. I quit paying for cable when your DIY show ended. I finally figured out how to listen to podcasts in mid . You have been with me through hour drives when my company would not allow me to fly. I have binge listened though all episodes. The tips and tricks have been enormously helpful. Following yours and your guests advice on squash bugs, I hunted for and squished all the eggs I could find for the last two years. Got rid of all squash plants by fall. This year, I have not seen one squash bug nor any eggs! Are your students and listeners having the same experience?
I also did not get powdery mildew on any of my squash this year either. Is this a theme across the country?

18. Long Overdue Review! - Joe, I can’t thank you enough for the gardening education I got from listening to your podcast over the last two years. During the rougher days of the pandemic your kind voice brought so much comfort. I have developed a Pavlovian response when I hear your podcast theme music.lol. I know I’m about to become immerse in some wonderful stories, interviews and gardening information. I’m now a second year gardener and actually have neighbors asking me for gardening information as they too get to enjoy my new garden. P.s. I Always preface my info with “I’m still new at this. You should check out the Joe Gardener Podcast!” Anyway, I huge thank you to you and your crew, your podcast has truly been a gift. Best, Diane Rader, (From the state with a lot of liquid sunshine this season. Redmond, Washington.)

19. So much great information - I just love all the information you and the interviewees share in these podcasts! Probably the most important thing I’ve learned is that all the clean up we’ve been trained to do all these years does more harm than good. Leaving the plant and tree debris actually improves the soil and provides food, shelter and more for animals, insects and birds. The podcasts on biodiversity and the purposes of insects both good and bad are wonderful! Thank you!

20. With the millions of Podcasts on Gardening I dropped out of all but this one - This is a well thought out, planned and very informative podcast. I love the guests and the topics and listen to this podcast every week. I have learned more from this podcast then any other. Thank you for your generosity with this information.

21. Love, love love this podcast! - If you’re looking for a well thought out well researched and very informative podcast, this is the one for you. I alway learn something new with each podcast. My only request is to maybe include do a podcast or two on the drought issues facing the west coast. Lots of the podcasts are geared towards east coast and midwest issues. But not so much our issues. Keep doing what you’re doing!! Kari S.

Creating eco-minimalist, non-toxic homes (without the extra work). Although minimalism has experienced a rebirth in recent years, the "less is more" movement has been around for centuries. Yet today's minimalist influencers have resurrected minimalism with a decidedly consumerist spin, as modern minimalism is nearly synonymous with decluttering. While there's a lot of chatter about tidying, it's radio silence and crickets when it comes to sustainability. The result? Aspiring minimalist...

1. Inspiring, informative, & practical - Sustainable Minimalists is an incredibly well-researched informative show that always leaves me feeling inspired and convicted to do better in living a more intentional, eco-conscious, minimalist life style. Stephanie brings important issues to light and explains them in a well thought out clear manner while providing actionable practical advice.

2. Great show - I absolutely love this show. Stephanie is so REAL. Some other podcasters act like their kids and husbands are just the most perfect and they love every second of being a mom and wife, but Stephanie shows BOTH sides of being a mom. That’s a huge draw for me because you can tell she loves her kiddos but they’re just kind of annoying too because they’re kids! I love her eco friendly tips, they’re occasionally a bit too crunchy for me, but I never feel judgement from her.

3. Wonderful show with great ideas! - I really enjoy this show and Stephanie seems approachable yet firm in her practices. She acknowledges the privileges that she has as someone who has the funds, etc. to live sustainably BUT also finds practical ways that EVERYone can try and decrease their carbon footprint through everyday activities and just consuming less in general. She does go beyond this sometimes (like with schoolbus emissions project!) — it is great for someone who just wants some motivation to get started and feel less alone when being more sustainable. Skip Episode because they talk about “Quiet Quitting” in a way that feels misguided. The overall message about quitting being a good thing sometimes is fine but that particular perspective on “Quiet quitting” was… unexpectedly buying into the capitalist machine. Quiet quitting is a term that certain conservatives came up with to demonize people who don’t want to be exploited by their corporate bosses. Also - doing what is in your job description is what you are hired to do! But that aside, this podcast is worth a listen! Typically, Stephanie critiques the exploitation of workers and marginalized people and she does her best to try and make a difference in TRYING OUR BEST to change our consumptive practices so that the world might eventually have space to heal.

4. Episode - Awesome episode! Stephanie is reassuring and helpful in assisting the listener in search of a path to what works for them. I was especially appreciative to hear the words “it”s normal to feel overwhelmed”. Those words and the information that followed are so encouraging and useful. Thank you!

5. Great podcast for seniors to learn and educate - As a follower of the Carbonalmanac.org tribe, I have searched for people to help me learn valuable information and also to share with along the way. Seniors can impact a family tree of possibilities. I’ve found Stephanie’s sustainable minimalist podcast to be a treasure. As a senior representative who is tech oriented might I suggest, when passing info to the tech challenged senior, use whatever form of communication that works for them. Most can use computers. For some books are the way. Stephanie you are wonderful! Thank you for your heartfelt dedication to doing your part to make an impact on the health of our earth and all beings who live on her. 6. Loving the gifting episodes. - I’m loving this podcast and especially love the episodes about gifting (and receiving), so many great ideas. I love making gifts (especially upcycled/repurposed ones), but also want to be thoughtful about what someone would actually use and enjoy. I’m always looking forward to the next episode.

7. Just what I needed - I am by no means a minimalist but very curious about leaning towards a more minimalist lifestyle. I came upon this podcast and have found its SUPER accessible and chock full of interesting info for me to process while at the beginnings of my minimalist journey. I also love Stephanies direct way to sharing her true opinion. Love and would recommend to anyone interested in this topic!

8. Excellent Content - She covers angles of this subject/idea/philosophy from many angles: Domestic, financial, ethical, scientific, global, social/emotional, economic, psychological, environmental especially, and so forth. As someone with an environmental science background, although it’s no longer the field I’m in, I do find I can learn here, as well as simply enjoy a pleasant banter of various ideas. And that’s valuable.
2023-01-24
9. Too simplified - This episode was terrible. The guests put the blame on Republicans for environmental policy. “ the Republican voters need to get their elected officials by the neck “. Shameful. Not every Republican votes against the environment .do all democrats support abortion after the first trimester? No, neither does every Republican. The host’s question was how do we tease out the environmental policy from all the pork that gets added to it. The above was the answer. What the guests forgot was that it’s been a Democrat controlled congress for years now. So why hasn’t the policies been made?? I won’t listen to this podcast again. Too divisive- pointing fingers. Too bad- maybe the host got blindsided.

10. Useful life education - I started being an minimalist with my stuff a year ago but wanted more on minimalist way of living and parenting hence the podcast search. All of Stephanie’s topics are relevant and she also give her tips that come from experience in addition to inviting experts to her podcast. For first time moms, just like me, or just any overwhelmed parents please listen to this podcast! You will learn how to remove all the mental discomfort and stressors, even the ones you didn’t know you had or every thought about! The other thing about Stephanie is that she’s real about being a a parent, I like the honesty because that makes her even more relatable if she is t already.
2022-12-21
11. Episode - I just starting listening and was a little taken back by the comment about the analogy to be a woman who makes the perfect bundt cake, and the contradiction from the speaker to support a client to go shopping in order to replace an item in her closet. With so many options available to the western world, it would be nice to stop and listen to more about about the mindset to become less a consumer and waster to live a sustainable minimal life.
2022-11-25
12. Connecting minimalist & mental health - I have been a listener to the Sustainable Minimalists for a while. There are several podcasts that talk about minimalism but few discuss the ways to continue the process, and the nuances between current events, facts, and living a minimalist life. Stephanie does an excellent job on all of the above. Whether you are a minimalist, interested in living a less cluttered life, or want to learn more about the lifestyle, this is a fantastic podcast to add to your podcast rotation!
2022-11-10
13. Informative - Stephanie does a great job laying out her points and explaining why what she is saying is important. I’m not completely on board with % of what she’s expressing, but I have taken much of what she has said and implemented it in our family’s life. Thanks for working hard to put out this great info Stephanie.

14. Oh, where would I be without this podcast? - Shout out from Portland Oregon! Stephanie takes the time to research the things we are all wondering about but don’t always have the time to look into. I listen to this podcast so often, that find myself talking like her sometimes. She says “what on earth do we need x for.” And now I’m saying that phrase to my kids. Keep it up!
2022-11-02
15. Honest, practical and thorough - What I love about this podcast is that Stefanie doesn’t just talk about the problems we are facing- which can often be scary and overwhelming (Climate change! Toxins! Forced labor camps in China!) but she gives us very realistic and practical steps we can take to help solve these problems. For example, I loved her “good, better, best” format when talking about things we can do to not waste energy in our homes. I always come away having learned something new about the world, yet feeling like “OK, here is something I can do to help.” I am a more conscious consumer because of her thorough and honest research and advice and I appreciate the time and thought she puts into this podcast. Thank you!

16. Informative and thought-provoking podcast - I really enjoy this podcast. I’ve been listening for over a year now and am finally writing a review! (Better late than never) Stephanie is a great host. I think it’s helpful that her voice is so soothing, especially when it’s a topic that is cause for concern or is a bit anxiety-producing. The topics are always relevant and thoughtful, and often come with practical tips or ideas of ways in which we can better our lives, and/or the life of the planet. I think it’s the kind of podcast that everyone could benefit from! I’m really glad that Stephanie switched back to doing her own ads. It was a bit jarring there for a bit! I realize ads are necessary but they’re much more bearable in the voice of the host. If I had one suggestion for Stephanie it would be this: Consider limiting or retiring your use of the words ‘no one’ and ‘never’. If you listen for them, you will hear them a lot in your episodes. There have been countless times where you used those words to describe people as a whole where it is simply not true, or is a massive generalization. Saying something like “no one does that” or “we never think about the consequences” is potentially alienating and divisive. My brain often responds with “but I do that, and I know others who do as well!” I think it’s much more effective to use words that aren’t definitive and abrasive, such as ‘oftentimes’ or ‘largely.’ We oftentimes don’t realize we’re making unnecessary and negative blanket statements that may cause others to feel underrepresented or isolated, even when it’s our intention to do the opposite: to inspire, to include, to show objectivity and nuance. Thank you for this podcast! It’s become a valued part of my life.

17. Great Podcast! - I love this podcast for all the useful information Stephanie provides! The guest interviews on Sustainable Minimalists are always a bonus and great to listen to as well. I am in a differest season of life than Stephanie, but even the pods about geared towards mothers and children are an interesting listen.
2022-09-05
18. Thoughtful and well-researched - Stephanie is passionate about her work and research and always has a thoughtful and intentional approach to many different eco-friendly topics. She occasionally goes into political topics that I don’t agree with, but I find the other topics good enough to keep listening anyway. The practical topics and deep dives into plastic-free, chemical-free, natural products and practices are great!
2022-08-17
19. Amazing content - One of my favorite podcasts! Content is always top notch and I’ve learned so much this podcast. Keep up the great work! update: not the biggest fan of all the extra ads. I understand the need for them as far as funding the podcast but some of these ads don’t even go with the content of the pod and it just doesn’t flow for me.
2022-08-05
20. Easily my favorite podcast - I’ve always felt the pull between being minimal but not wasteful and have struggled at times knowing when to save and reuse/repurpose versus minimizing. Stephanie speaks to both sides beautifully and so much more. Her “chatting with a friend” vibe alongside hard-hitting facts feels like a perfect approach to learning about sustainable minimalism. Not only have I learned so much from her podcast, but listening regularly holds me accountable to keep making and maintaining small changes. I love learning to minimize my impact on our environment while keeping my immediate environment simple and minimal.
2022-07-31
21. Listen and Learn - This is such an informative podcast and definitely worth your time! It is clear that Stephanie spends considerable and thoughtful time to research and craft each episode in a way that brings value. I always learn something and appreciate how she shares her honest thoughts. Big thumbs up!

22. This is a must listen! - I am so glad I found this podcast! Stephanie is so thoughtful and heartfelt. She has the best guests ever - knowledgeable, informed, and passionate. It's intelligent without being dense; personal without being overly indulgent. Somehow, Stephanie strikes a perfect balance in every episode. If you're passionate about sustainable living, you need to subscribe to this podcast!

Welcome to the Beginner's Garden Podcast! This is the podcast with easy-to-understand resources, tips, and information to help beginning gardeners get the most out of their gardening adventure -- big or small. When I began gardening in 2013, I scoured books and Internet resources to find all the information I could. Although good information was abundant, I had trouble understanding all the gardening lingo and sifting through the information to figure out what would work for me. In this podcast,...

1. Pragmatic, Actionable and Kind - Jill consistently delivers actionable, pragmatic and cost effective gardening advice. Her kind demeanor makes the podcast is a welcomed listen - week after week. I pray that you are healed, and thank you for sharing your faith. Although you don’t impose your belief on listeners, it’s been a blessing to know that you trust God. It encourages my faith too. The Lord cover and keep you always.

2. Great podcast! - I have been gardening for a large part of my life but am still learning a lot from your podcast. Your podcast is the most practical and interesting that I have found. Also thank you so much for sharing your faith. You are an encouragement and inspiration to many of the rest of us! (Just remember that … and the beatitudes Matthew )

3. Jill is great! - I always learn so much and she is like listening to a friend. When I have gotten frustrated with my garden she is there to let me know it is ok and it’s all a learning experience! Great practical information that is explained in such a way that anyone would be able to understand. Thanks Jill!

4. My Garden Mentor - Hey Everybody… Jill is my all things garden mentor! Dabbled with veggies n fruits but always learning so this year I kicked it in gear and have the courage to face all the challenges thanks to my mentor Jill. Living in middle Tennessee my climate is similar to Jills so It’s a win-win!! Perfect delivery both over the microphone or in a workshop!! Thank you GardenMentor!!

5. Best home gardener help podcast out there. - This podcast is well thought out, researched and edited. Jill is an amazing hostess, and is concise and concerned with helping you become a gardener for the long term. She’s not product hocking (well, ok- there are some sponsors) but instead offers some beautiful comprehensive courses on both getting started on your garden from the very first seed, and her harvest to kitchen series where she shows you what to do with all that stuff you just grew! She puts a lot of work into making things easily understandable for beginners, but also really does the research to give answers to questions big and small about gardening. Can I just say that as a midwesterner myself, it is so nice to hear from someone gardening here in the middle like I am and not in a subtropical climate on one of the coasts?!? Yay!!!! I recommend this podcast to any of my friends and family who want to get growing. It’s the best one out there in my opinion- and I’m very grateful for Jill’s efforts. Thank you, Jill!!!

6. Great information! - Although I wouldn’t classify myself as a “beginner gardener”, I still listen to Jill’s podcast on a weekly basis because she gives a lot of great information that I can apply to my gardening skills. I also appreciate the small Bible devotion she sometimes gives at the end of her podcasts. Keep up the good work, Jill!
2022-07-19
7. Easy to follow - This podcast has great information, in an easy to follow presentation. I like to go to the nerds for gardening advice, and I think she does her research well and finds helpful information to share, while not claiming to know everything. Best of all, she loves Jesus, which is important to me because it affects how we view everything in life, even gardening.

8. Love how Jill connects God’s word to gardening - As long as I can remember, I’ve loved growing flowers and plants, but only became interested in vegetable gardening a couple of years ago. Now that I’m retired and have the time, I want to learn as much as I can. In just the short time that I’ve been listening to Jill’s podcast, I have learned so much and really enjoy her teaching. Jill is a great communicator and interviewer. I feel as if she and my love for gardening are a gift from the Lord.
2022-05-02
9. Love, love, love! - Your podcast has quite simply changed my life. You gave me the confidence to try to be a first-time gardener (even if I’m the very beginner variety!!) and a very practical way to define success, which includes expecting things to be imperfect and celebrating problems as learning opportunities. I love your garden journal and am SO glad you recommended recording details that I would never has remembered but now rely on daily. I really appreciate how you translate things into -level and provide so much detail on your experiences. I look forward to binge-listening to old episodes and starting new ones the day they’re available. I could go on and on. And as for the negative reviews on religious elements, I can honestly say that as a person who does not necessarily share the same belief system as you, I’m so confused about why that would bother anyone since it’s limited to the very end of the episode to make it an optional listening component. And more often than not, I choose to listen because it’s lovely to hear why gardening is so deeply meaningful to you personally—something I’m certain many gardeners can relate to no matter their particular belief or non-belief variety. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Jill!!! MILLION stars!

10. episode is great - I am learning so much and I am so grateful for your podcasts. I just got done listening to episode Small Space Kitchen Gardening with Nicole Burke. It is amazing. I’ve been thinking I have to keep up with all the amazing big gardeners out there but this just put me so at ease and took off SO much pressure I put on myself. A big THANK YOU to both you and Nicole.

11. The Best Beginners Garden Podcast - I’ve listened to Jill over the past three years, and each podcast I learn something new. She got me hooked. And her approach of taking it slow, learning from mistakes, and weaving in science just when you need it. I really recommend this as the first place to go if you want to learn about gardening. And as other reviewers have mentioned, Jill’s very down to earth and very clear. Could not say enough about this podcast, and the many great speakers she enlists to help!
2021-09-17
12. Excellent and Easy To Understand - I love the grounded easy to understand way she teaches. I want to hear from gardeners that share a similar approach to organic practices and appreciate the value that insects bring to the garden. Lots of good science here! Do not be turned off by a few negative reviews on the religious content sometimes shared in the last five minutes of the podcast. Just don’t listen to that. Don’t throw the baby out with the bathwater! You’ll be missing out!
2021-08-23
13. Useful and approachable - This is such an unpretentious look at gardening. Lots of helpful tidbits for many levels of gardeners. I so appreciate the honesty of both gardening successes but also failures! On another note, there is sometimes a religious aspect every now and then, but it’s not at all overwhelming. Normally this would be a turn off for me but I can appreciate making that connection to the awesomeness of nature even though I’m not a religious person.
2021-07-21
14. Stop with the gospel - I respect your beliefs. However, what does that have to do your audience’s beliefs? Please don’t make gardening an excuse to evangelize. Respect that people have many different beliefs, and that we could still come together and care for one another and the planet. You are already sharing your love, you don’t need to get preachy.
2021-07-15
15. So personable - Jill could be your neighbor who turned out to be a great friend . I gardened in years past in containers but I moved to the Utah high desert and my first time on my own property. I’ll be able to start my first one here next summer so I’m getting a head start. She gives good guidance and is open to learning from listeners and her experience each year. So relaxing to listen and a very kind southern voice will make you feel at home.

1. Great Informative Tool that’s not Overwhelming - Kevin does a good job of making a podcast that dose a thorough overview of different subjects he covers, but not overwhelming long. I get nice outlines of info I need that empowers me to easily do my own further research on specifics I’m interested, yet I’m able to be entertained by the fascinating extra info that’s not as useful to me but opens up the wonders and excitement of the diversity of gardening to me.

2. Longtime gardener still learning tons here! - These podcasts are perfect when I’m winter sowing, weeding, succession planting and doing all the gardening tasks. Kevin has a wide breadth of experience and knowledge and brings his listeners on his growing journeys with great guests. This podcast is a joy to listen and learn with/ from.
2023-02-25
3. Please Stop Talking Over Your Guests - There have been some really great guests on this podcast that have shared some great knowledge. However, it’s not helpful to listeners when Kevin CONSTANTLY interrupts the guests who are sharing something valuable. Half the time the guest can barely finish their thought before Kevin is jumping in, talking over them, or completely changing the subject. For those of us who are not familiar with outdoor gardening, we could really benefit from you just letting whoever the expert is talk and finish speaking about what they want to tell us. It’s also disrespectful to the guest that’s speaking. Not trying to be negative, but I’ve listened to this podcast for a year and this has ALWAYS bugged me. We could gain so much more if the guests could just finish speaking.
2023-02-02
4. Favorite new podcast - This is exactly what I was looking for! Straight-to-the-point knowledge about the very particular ins and outs of growing. For example, companion planting specific flowers to attract specific pollinators for specific fruits. I’ve mulled over charts trying to remember what to plant with what, but understanding why echinacea logistically works for a bumble bee opens up a world of understanding.

5. Favorite podcast at the moment! - I love listening to these short and sweet informative podcasts. As a new gardener with lots to learn the way things are simplified is great. Loved the companion planting a succession planting series this month and I even bought the companion planting book as a result!

6. End of an era to another generation - This podcast has literally changed my life. My dad is towards the end of his life and gardening is something I didn’t realize how he influenced me. Growing up, we always had beautiful fresh food from our garden. Now we have such a wonderful thing to share and it really is because I have Kevin and the team to listen too for inspiration. I live in Escondido just minutes from the Epic homestead so the local advice is invaluable! They are completely down to earth, funny, cheeky and clever. I am fussy too! Thanks peeps!

7. I wish there were pumpkin pictures - This giant pumpkin set of episodes is fantastic. I love every part of it, from the sorted details of the community, through the wonderful accent, through the science and experience that comes across. I wish that each of these podcasts were also video recorded for you tube. Huge fan, great work, want to see these pumpkins and this pumpkin maniac.

8. Great listen. - The Epic Gardening Podcast has been great for my daily dose of gardening. Especially in the winter. Helps me stay motivated and get some planning done for the next garden. Also plenty of new ideas to try broken down in an easily understandable way. Great listen. Great job. Keep up the inspiring work.

9. Listening to Jacques - The Garden Hermit is quite possibly the most interesting, engaging, informative, inspiring and easy to listen to guest Kevin has had. I just listened to each of his interviews and I could listen to him for hours. Jacques is so knowledgeable and has so much great information for the home gardener. Thanks for the great interview! I hope to see more of you, Jacques!
2022-08-18
10. Newby - I find the podcast to be both informative and relaxing. Kevin has a very calming delivery and seems to feature guests who share this quality. The range of topics is impressive; I especially enjoy Epic’s decision to feature a speaker over multiple episodes. Although the opening and closing sound bites are a bit unusual, the podcast is worth a regular listen.
2022-08-02
11. Cohesive information - I started listening to Epic Gardening podcast since when I was working on my patio garden, and now I’m going back to the very first episodes as I start my first raised bed garden! Surprisingly these early episodes are very useful in a different way, since it was just Kevin giving his tips instead of having guest on the podcast. Noticed some episodes having som audio issue but other than that a great podcast for gardeners to listen to
2022-06-02
12. Great Podcast - I started listening to this podcast about a month ago because I am planning to start a series of new gardens over the next couple of years. The shows are short, but packed full of great information and the host is delightful to listen to. I have about forty or fifty of the shows in a playlist that I listen to over and over, just to make sure I’m absorbing all the information. Thank you, Kevin Espiritu for the information and entertainment!

13. BEST GARDENING PODCAST! - I love everything that Epic Gardening does! The podcast is fantastic, I also follow epic gardening on Instagram and I watch the videos they post on YouTube, they are all fantastic and I have learned so much! Very very encouraging. Great podcast, quality of info is incredible and Kevin discusses some great pertinent gardening topics. Highly recommend / stars from me!

14. One of the best! - I love this show. I initially found Kevin on YouTube as a naïve gardener, but quickly increased my knowledge base and experimental gardening (as well as my garden yield and health) with his advice. This pod is great because each episode is just a tiny bite sized portion of knowledge and entertainment for those times when you would prefer that to sitting down and having to focus on a full video. Great stuff all around!

15. It’s been great to see you grow - Thank you for the content Kevin, your the only reason I use YouTube! I really like the podcast platform and all the work you put into keeping a nice and ORGANIZED website that has been very helpful. I’ve helped a couple other friends out too by referencing information your website and now they use it as a tool as well. Again, thank you.
2021-11-11
16. Follow on YouTube, happy - I listened to my first episode of the podcast today, and I am glad I did. I’ve been subscribed to Kevin’s YouTube channel for some time now, and I really appreciate this addition to the Epic Gardening media. Over time, the YouTube channel has outstripped my interests and abilities in the garden. This episode felt more relatable and the short duration means I figure I’ll listen everyday. Someday I hope to be more on par with the great work Kevin shows on video, but for now the podcast works for me :) Thank you so much for your work, Kevin and the Epic Gardening team. Later edit (. months in)- still very much appreciating the show, especially the intro and outro. The episodes are brief, and works for me in tone and length and content. I generally use it as a reminder to spend some time with my plants and as a stand in when I’m running around everywhere with work and errands. I consistently learn new things, and generally look forward to following up on the YouTubw channel when I have the time.

17. My daily morning dose of gardening - During quarantine, I discovered Epic Gardening as I was building my hugelkultur beds with the neighborhood’s abundance of yard waste. The podcast quickly became part of my morning ritual and, as weird as it may sound, is firmly connected to my morning coffee pour over routine! It is just long enough to cover my time grinding, pouring, and cleaning up. I come away with little nuggets of information that inspire my next moves in the garden and complement the other sources of information/guidance I pursue. Often it piques my interest in something new that I then dig deeper into...or gives me a Sparknotes version/reminder of things I’m already doing and helps reveal aspects I may’ve forgotten in my own ever-evolving process. Kevin’s voice is pleasant to listen to and I appreciate him giving guests space to speak and tell their stories (although the solo podcasts are a nice break and have a good natural energy too!). Definitely worth subscribing to fill in those smaller gaps in your day with something fun and upbeat!

Melissa is a wealth of knowledge and I'm so excited to keep listening and learning. Just ordered a fermenting kit and I'm looking into ordering row covers to extend my gardening season. Keep doing what you’re doing Melissa! Thanks for sharing and taking time out of your day to teach us!

4. Talented podcaster - Been a long time listener and have been homesteading for a good while now too. I listen to A LOT of podcasts. Her earlier episodes, while great content, were poor sound quality especially noticeable when goin back to listen now. However she must have invested in some sound equipment because it now (and has for a while) sounds great. She has a great speaking voice with no distracting mouth sounds. She lines out steps and information in an orderly fashion. This is a podcaster who you can tell is also a podcast consumer, knowing how to properly title and summarize her podcasts and present information. I do many things Melissa does but some to a lesser degree and she is informative for beginner and experienced homesteader alike. While I enjoy her books and website I have never signed up for her courses but I am never offended when a podcaster markets their content. It makes sense and we are given for FREE, a wealth of knowledge and resources. So for those reviewers complaining about her selling her courses on her own podcast, grow up. Also Melissa, thank you for sharing your perspective as a follower of Christ in your homesteading/life’s journey. I find it grounding, helpful and wholesome.

5. Uplifting and Educational - I am currently listening to the podcast nearly everyday. I discovered Pioneering Today towards the end of last year and fell in love with Melissa! She has given me encouragement in so many ways. I am not a homesteader but dream of living that life in some aspect one day. I’ve always loved things of old! I’ve been making my own bread, am in the process of ditching the chemicals in my home, growing my own garden and raising my chickens. I’m just so thankful to have found such an incredible source of information. To top it all off, I LOVE the “Verse of the Week” It means so much to me and really hits me a lot of times! Thank you for what you’re doing!

6. Preparing for the future - I have also been getting a strong message that I need to learn how to grow and preserve food for my family. I know we will be depending on this knowledge. I was amazed after hearing your podcast that others have been given this council also! I think it is guidance from the Holy Spirit because of something happening in the future we will need to be prepared for. Looking forward to your magazine Thank you for all you do! Your sister in Christ, Debbie Huckins

7. Great podcast for everyone who wants or is homesteading! - Melissa does a spectacular job highlighting all aspects of homesteading. She shares her wealth of knowledge readily and interviews many experts in their field as well as all levels of homesteaders. From beginner to seasoned she does a beautiful job sharing so many incredible individuals with her audience.

8. Tired of having to research her “facts” - The podcast is interesting and I enjoy her verse of the week. However, she often conflates science with pseudoscience. I find myself needing to research her “scientifically backed” information to see if it’s actually rooted in real science or just old-timey folks wisdom. I’m all in to hear about both, but I wish she were much more clear about what has been legitimately researched and what’s not. I suspect it’s not her intention to obfuscate, she just doesn’t actually know the difference.

9. Love it! - Like many of us in , I am reinvigorating my interest in gardening and self-sufficiency, and good old-fashioned “know-how”. Melissa is really enjoyable to listen to, and I learn a lot. I particularly loved her Dad being part of some episodes and sharing his memories of growing up in the Depression. I was not raised a Christian, but absolutely embrace the wisdom of Biblical and Judeo-Christian values (now more than ever), so I really enjoy the verse of the week. Thank you, Melissa!

10. Fascinating Info, Wonderful Person - Incredibly wide range of gardening topics, from companion planting to fish farming in a greenhouse! Help with crop planning, homesteading’s business side, a wide range of preserving techniques and much more. Hosted by a fun, friendly, sincere and authentic person of faith. I love the Bible verses and personal stories with which each episode concludes. Keep on inspiring us!

11. Love the Podcast! - Thank you for sharing all your information. Even if I know some of the content already, I really enjoy listening and getting the confirmation! Love the verse at the end! Here was mine today: “Fight the good fight of faith; take hold of the eternal life to which you were called, and you made the good confession in the presence of many witnesses.” Timothy : . So don’t quit sharing!

12. An Incredible Resource! - Melissa’s podcast has been so helpful as I’ve been on my journey to a more natural and sustainable lifestyle over the past few years. I can directly credit her influence for several changes in our family such as grinding our own wheat (with a Mock Mill!), incorporating sourdough and other fermented products into our diet, exploring herbs for medicinal purposes, canning for the first time and making a switch to organic, shade-grown coffee. Melissa has a warm, practical approach that will inspire you if you are in the beginning stages of your homesteading or natural lifestyle and reinvigorate your love for this way of life if you are a veteran pioneer! Her selection of guests is excellent and serves to increase the breadth of knowledge provided in the podcast even further. And lastly, despite what other reviewers might say, her Christian worldview serves only to enhance the information given and has never, ever been pushy or preachy in any way! Even the verse of the week segment (which is excellent and insightful!) is positioned at the end of the program, to allow those who would like to skip it an easy way of doing so without missing any homesteading content. Keep up the wonderful, generous work, Melissa!!!

13. Planting Seeds - Thank you for sharing your knowledge and info on homesteading. Every episode leaves me with take aways to use around my home. I love that you end with a bible verse. There is a reason it hits a nerve with non believers, keep planting seeds. The spiritual seeds take time to grow also.

14. Thank you - Thank you for providing great information regarding homestead planning! I have been listening to your podcast for quite a while. I love that you continue to share your Christian faith as well. In a world where Christian voices are increasingly being silenced I’m happy that you continue to share a Bible verse and share your personal struggles/accomplishments. Please don’t let others discourage you.

15. Love how real Melissa is - I’ve been listening to Melissa‘s podcast for about three years and got some reason, I’ve never taken the time to write a review. But I just want to say how wonderful it is and how much I appreciate her bold stance with her faith, that I share as well.
Blessings and Mason Jars to you as well Melissa.
God bless you!
See you inside the Acadamy Traci Reineke

16. Thank you - Melissa, I’ve been listening for a few weeks now and looking up old pods on subjects that interest me. It’s been so fun to listen to what you have to say. My husband listened in on the beef raising episode and I could tell he was intrigued, too. We dream of being more self sufficient someday but we do small things on our city lot in the mean time. Keep up the good work! I want to encourage you, too, that if your Bible reading and Christian content is getting negative blowback (I read the other reviews), you’re doing something right! Jesus told us that would happen. We all need to hear God’s Word on the regular and it’s wonderful to get spiritual inspiration in the midst of a podcast on practical living. It’s refreshing to know I can listen to your presentations without being bombarded by coarse language. Again, thank you.

17. Good but - I really enjoy the content it’s good solid information I used to look forward to listening to it but more and more I find the religious aspect to be something I’m not looking to in the podcast. It’s disappointing but every episode seems to have it now and it’s not what I look for in a ‘pioneering’ titled podcast.

18. Love this podcast - Started own my homestead journey back to my roots a few years ago. This podcast has been a great inspiration and helped me to polish my homesteading skills, given me ideas I never thought of and most importantly gave me the courage to up and sell our suburban home and buy a acre forgotten farm in the country. I’m so thankful God put Melissa and this podcast in my path.

1. Love This Show! - This show is a must-listen for any woman looking to take control of her finances. With practical tips and engaging guests, it’s an invaluable resource for anyone seeking financial freedom. Jen and Jill make every episode approachable, enjoyable and informative. Highly recommend - five stars!

2. Love you guys - You’ve made topics I thought I could never understand, accessible. You’ve made frugality , personal finance and investing feel attainable. I enjoy you two so much. I love the banter and the thoughtfully given information. I can’t say enough good things about this podcast. You have completely inspired me to take control of my finances….. and Jill’s possessed voice saying “lighting round” is a highlight for every episode. Thank you for clearly pouring so much love and care into this podcast. Mel

3. Needs improvement - I used to binge this show but there’s hardly any new information. I don’t like when they just read articles and re-release old episodes as new episodes. I want to hear practical tips that come from other voices in the community, not just an article they’re reading to us. Hope they improve so I can start listening again!!
2023-01-28
4. Nonjudgmental Financial Advice - I love how affirming the hosts are. So many personal finance spaces rely on shame to motivate their audience but Jen and Jill focus on learning about yourself and your values. I appreciate when they talk about “seasons” of life and acknowledge that priorities change over time.
2023-01-07
5. Please beware!!! - I have twice reported the abusive business practices of Leslie Tayne and her company Tayne Law group. They have not taken down the episode. This either means they were paid to have her on as a guest or do not take reports from listeners seriously. Take what you learn here with a grain of salt.

6. The Radical Middle - I love the thoughtful and balanced conversations on this podcast. It is so rare to find people who can acknowledge that life is complicated, there is no one size fits all approach to finance, and ultimately the right choice for most of us will be somewhere in the middle. The fact that these ladies are also funny and entertaining is the icing on the cake.

7. Thank you - I’m diving into budgeting and working on being debt free. Im learning that just listening to podcasts ABOUT these topics is really helpful - even if I don’t take much from it. Episode really impacted me. I’ve been scared to budget because I used to be NUTS about counting calories and dieting. I restricted and said “I can’t because Im on a diet.” Now, I have a healthy diet that is balanced and like second nature. It took about years to get the hang of it. I don’t restrict but I am conscious! I never thought about budgeting like this! It will take time, I’ll purge, I’ll restrict too much, I’ll fall off track. But with slow, steady, intentional action it will become second nature. Thank you for the great podcasts!! I also loved “breaking the cycle of poverty” - it was my first listen and I felt immediately seen and related. I’m breaking A LOT of cycles. I also appreciated when you firstly mentioned your own privileges in that episode - something we should always consider when giving financial advice. Thank you ladies!!

8. A different voice in finance - I listen to this podcast when I need motivation to stay committed to my budget and financial planning! They have some fun tips and conversation. Not super involved in their online finance challenges outside the podcast. Some people have a problem with them saying anything negative about Dave Ramsay’s methods. I feel like they were quite fair in the podcast discussing DR’s methods they did not agree with. I still appreciate Dave Ramsey and what he’s done to help people. It’s okay to listen to a variety of views. Let’s be kind to one another! Jen and Jill encourage people to decide on their own. I respect that. I can listen to a variety of financial advice and take what applies to my situation. It’s not a competition. There’s room for several voices in the finance world. And Jen and Jill are good ones that work quite well for me.

9. Helpful podcast - I had read a book by Dave Ramsey a few years ago and was all fired up about budgeting and getting out of debt. Then COVID hit and I completely fell off the bandwagon. I kept hearing commercials for this podcast on the other podcasts I listen to and finally decided to give it a try. After a few episodes I was still in denial about how bad my finances were and wasn’t really considering taking their advice, but kept listening. After a few more episodes I realized the hosts felt like my friends and I began to open my heart up to their advice. Now I’m back on my debt payoff journey and feeling so much better about my life choices. I’m still quite a ways behind on episodes so you ladies will keep me company for months to come before I’m caught up. Who knows maybe then I’ll go back and start over again to keep myself motivated.

10. Delightful - I find this podcast to be so fun and approachable- I liked it initially but it grew on me fast, and now I look forward to every new episode and have gone back and listened to past episodes as well. Jill and Jen are informative, fun, practical and smart- they project a warmth that make you feel like you’re sitting down and chatting over coffee. The fun structure changes it up, so it isn’t just one big long interview, which I love. Keep it up, ladies!

11. Neighbors! - So, I stumbled upon this podcast just a few weeks ago due in part to my love for budgeting podcasts, and man, I wish I found it sooner! I’m binge-listening (is that a thing?) to these episodes like crazy and I can’t say enough good things! To add to the fun, I’m right down the road outside of Tampa! What are the odds?! It’s meant to be, right?! Thanks for such a great podcast, gals!

12. So encouraging in a real way! - I really like the tips and the way this podcast makes frugality feel actually doable. The discussions are very applicable to every walk of life and the realness is refreshing. I come to this podcast when I need a little push to keep going on the minimalist path and then I don’t feel alone in the journey.

13. Tried to like this… - But like another reviewer mentioned, gory aren’t really sharing anything substantial. It is a lot of just comparing their lives to others. I listened to a couple of episodes and when they bring on guests, they always interject their own experiences rather than just letting the guest share their story. Example quotes: “that totally describes me! I do ….” And “when I was in your situation, I did this and felt like that…” Just wish they’d let the guest share their story without constantly interjecting it with their own. After a while, I just shut off the episode because I found this annoying. I tuned in to hear the guest, not so much the hosts during the guest podcasts!

14. Game changing, no shame approach to Personal Finances - I am a podcast binger and this podcast is worth the binge! Jen and Jill encourages their community to choose frugality as a lifestyle rather than a temporary tool to save money; focusing on a balanced approach to financial freedom rather than sacrificing everything (time, family and friends, mental health etc) just to make that debt payoff date one year sooner. Bravo! I feel like I can finally say I have found “friends” that have the same mindset of stewardship as I do!

15. Love, love, love Frugal Friends - I just started following Frugal Friends a couple
of weeks ago, and I am hooked!! I love and appreciate all the information that is offered, and I am actively trying to adapt the habits of frugality that will allow me to live my best life. Thank you, Jen & Jill. So happy that you’ll be offering two podcasts a week!!!

16. Wow I’m obsessed! - I discovered your podcast last week, and I can’t stop listening! Not only is your content and advice amazing, but you ladies are both so personable and have such life-giving personalities. I can tell you both have such a passion for the podcast, and it feels like having a conversation with friends whenever I listen. I am currently a college student and your advice is so fitting for my season in life. Thank you and God bless!

17. Creativity over consumerism with Miranda Anderson - I like this podcast in total but this episode felt tone deaf. Miranda seems to come from a very privileged life position: rich housewife with a husband and who works full time and a house in the suburbs. She says that “most people have enough” as if every person has the same budget to buy $ worth of containers or has pantries full of supplies. She references Pinterest as if every mom or person points to that as the ideal. In general, she talks about creativity over consumerism from a highly privileged upper middle class white mom perspective. My recommendation: take some time to reflect on your own privilege and wealth. Why was it so easy for you to not spend $ for a year? Do other people have the excess you have? Do other moms have the luxury to stay home? In general I found this content pretty inaccessible.

18. The life coaches I’m too cheap to pay for - Jen and Jill’s podcast is helpful for everyday life, making finances down to earth. I appreciate the very easy to implement ideas, from inexpensive plants to spruce up your yard to grocery ideas. So often, their frugal ideas from swapping to skimping are also the sustainable choice, and I love that!!!
2022-06-01
19. Can’t get enough! - I listen to a TON of personal finance podcasts, but I have been binging Frugal Friends for a couple weeks now and is currently my favorite personal finance podcast. Just can’t get enough of these fun, frugal, finance ladies! And every time they go “pew, pew, pew” it brightens my whole day and puts a smile on my face. Such good advice and amazing guests.
2022-04-22
20. Finally! - I’m so happy I found a frugal podcast that is more than “make coffee at home” or bring your lunch to work”. So many things they suggest I have been doing for years which totally endears them to me. But I have learned a lot from them as well. Their chemistry is great and they’re really funny. I listen on the way to work. Keep the frugal tips coming!
2022-04-05
21. Giggles and Nonsense - I’ve listened to two podcasts of these two and won’t make time to listen to the third. They don’t offer any solid foundations on how to build wealth. They give opinions which they can do but it’s like taking advice from Girl Scouts. I listened to their bashing of Dave Ramsey and they made me realize that I need to listen to Dave instead of them. They laughed and joked that he is an old white man. Wow, there would be an outrage if the two made a similar statement about “an old black man.” Well, maybe there wouldn’t be an outage as these two girls our not relevant. They bashed Dave and said how he makes money from his endorsements and ELP’s, yet immediately after that they said that, they were trying to sell Capitalize. They said they provide facts, not opinions then a minute later they gave their opinions. Stay away from these girls from Glee Club.

22. Funny AND frugal- a winning combo! - Thank you Jen and Jill for so many episodes of practical, inspiring guidance on becoming and staying frugal. At its heart is the reminder that being frugal is not being cheap- it is about making conscientious and intentional financial decisions. Jill’s perspective as a social worker is a bonus for me as I try to convince my social worker husband that we could change our finances for the better, even on his salary. The other bonus? Laughing out loud as these two good friends crack jokes and get a little silly. Thanks ladies!

Hey there, darling! My name is Jess. There was a time that all I wanted in the world was a little farm where I could raise my family and grow our food. Now, that's exactly what exists outside my door. In watching it unfold, a new dream was formed in my heart – to share this beautiful life with others and teach them the lessons we've learned along the way. Welcome to the Roots and Refuge podcast, friend. I am so glad you're here.

1. Soul refreshing - I binge listed to every video, and I am very much looking forward to future episodes! I have a lot of the same history, same health, same situation (their earlier years), and same big dreams. I am blessed to have followed the R&R page in FB and IG and now this Podcast. Y’all keep on being amazing and thank you for sharing your dreams and lessons with us!

2. I can’t recommend this podcast enough - Jess has been the source of so much inspiration in my life. I went from causally interested in gardening (bored during and looking for a homeschool activity) to full on homesteading (garden and livestock included). Not everyone who listens in will chose to homestead, but everyone can learn something from Jess. She such a great teacher and well spoken person, and I love listening to just her or her conversations. I always learn something and I can’t recommend this podcast highly enough.

3. I Love LOVE this family and podcast - Jess and Jeremiah alongside their band of youngsters have poured their heart and soul into education of new homesteaders ready to get their hands dirty. They have been immensely helpful in my journey and I’ve become a content consumer on different platforms now: YouTube IG and podcasts alike. I can’t get enough of what Jess has to say. I especially enjoy her devotional sections on YouTube. “Make your waiting room a classroom” - Jess Sowards. Thank you.

4. Love this family! - Edited to add I wish they would fix the uploads. There have not been any updates or podcast episodes since February first. I have tried to send messages to them but they don’t get them or respond. I will not listen on Patreon and will not listen on their website because the player doesn’t keep the time and super inconvenient. These kinks need to be worked out or an explanation or announcement and not the radio silence like currently. Awesome family sharing a wealth of knowledge on homesteading, gardening, home life etc. love their YouTube channel too but also Love being able To listen on my way to work! Thanks Jess and Miah!

5. Honest and Humble - Long time fan of your YouTube channel. My wife and I will watch a few episodes every Sunday. We’re not homesteaders but we do have chickens, ducks, and rabbits in the backyard. I’m impressed by everything you guys have accomplished and continue to do. What means the most to me is your sharing of God’s love. You’re very inspirational. Love you guys!

6. Listening while I Garden - I have been watching Jess’s videos on Roots and Refuge YouTube for years. I have often listened to her videos while working and wished that they were podcasts. When Jess announced they were making a podcast I was delighted. I have listened to every episode of their podcast so far and I love it. I put it on speaker and work in the garden while listening. Sometimes my twins (years) will work with me and listen without being board. I listen to about different garden podcasts every week and this has raced its way to one of my top favorites

7. Uplifting, Informative, Educational, and Just Lovely - I am such a big fan of Roots and Refuge Farms. I have been following their journey via Youtube for two years now. I have learned so much about gardening from Jess and regularly feel motivated to try new things in my garden, kitchen, and in my walk with Christ. My favorite part of Roots and Refuge is that Jess is always encouraging us to grow something lovely. And to learn new things Thank you and keep up the amazing work.

8. Finally! - I’ve been following Jess for a couple years on YouTube, and I’m ecstatic that they took the leap into creating a podcast!! Real life homesteading experience is perfect for those of us who are still dreaming and stumbling along as we begin this journey. Thank you, Sowards’ family, for the advice and encouragement to turn our dreams into reality.

9. Life skills, Inspiration, Hope & Encouragement - Jess has been one of a few voices in the last year that has really given me hope during the difficult times, the ability to dream again, the purpose to use the gifts I’ve been given and an inspiration for my favorite past time - gardening! She shares so much wisdom here with topics like homesteading, gardening, faith, content creation, family life, dreaming big dreams, and business! You will love this podcast! And if you do there is also years worth of beautiful YouTube content to fill up on. My favorites are the devotionals with a close second being the garden tours. Thank you Jess & Jeremiah for sharing your journey with such genuine love and enthusiasm!

10. Grab a cup of coffee they are awesome!! - Jess, she’s more than a gardener, she’s an inspiration!! She’s my motivation!! She’s a God send to me, and the love for her Sweet Miah her amazingly supportive husband and children are inspiration for me to grow better in garden and soul. With their teamwork we are able to experience their dreams coming true and always sharing tips of advice along the way of her great gardening, his building skills and of course the farm animals!! Can’t wait for more to come, Thanks Roots and Refuge Farm, love from SW Virginia
