1. Another David Sedaris Classic - David Sedaris is just a few years older than I, and I’ve been lucky to have journeyed through my life reading his essays about his life. He is never not funny. While reading almost every piece he’s ever written — and, yes, I’ve read them all — there’s always a moment of explosive laughter. And, that’s the best kind of laughter; the kind that’s unexpected and uncontrollable. That’s not to say, though, that what he writes is just funny. Yes, he’s a humorist (if we need to categorize), but he’s also shared a lot more. And, it’s all good. If you’ve never read David Sedaris, start with Naked or Barrel Fever or The Santaland Diaries. It will lead you to a treasure trove of enjoyment that leads up to this gem. Saying “you’re welcome” in advance.

1. Sunflowerfusion - I think Mindy is awesome! She is so real about Hollywood. Not many celebrities will tell it like it is. Mindy does. She has a great knack for storytelling. The book pulls you in - you can't put it down! I finished it in days. I learned a great deal about her life after reading this book. Hilarious. Must read.

2. Couldn't put it down - The only problem with this book is I read it too fast and now I want to keep reading!! I'm a huge Mindy Kaling fan and this book just made me love her even more. I read the whole thing in a total of a couple hours. I had to go to work and to a party and I found myself thinking about it wishing I was still reading. It keeps you interested with all the different ideas, formats, and stories. It really taught me a lot I didn't know about Mindy Kaling. It also was very funny and moving. There were a lot of passages that I highlighted because it made me think or touched me. I definitely recommend.

3. Not to overstate it .... - Please don't let the fact that I've only read board books with word sentences for the last five years diminish my opinion of Ms. Kaling's work. Can I just say how much I enjoyed this?! I laughed at loud so hard I woke the baby on numerous occasions. I actually made it a point to find time to read. This, my friends, is HUGE. Toddlers missed snacks. (They lived, and it was always a refill.) Toys laid in the floor. The laundry sat. But I got to read!! Thank you Ms. Kaling for bringing books back to my life. I'm off to the "bookstore" to download something else ...

4. Travel companion thru Guatemala - I read this book as a single white straight guy on my through Guatemala from Belize. I read through it on my hour drive with my close friends. I ignored them for hours as I was drawn into the life of Ms. Kaling. Part of me wants to email her and ask her to marry me. The other part of me feels guilty that I ignored most of Guatemalan scenery for something I could fulfill through TMZ. As much as it was nonsense and comedy, I was drawn into understanding the struggle of being single and working hard for stability. It was encouraging to read a feminist book of woman power, but not having to put up with ultra-man-hating-woman-power. Women with confidence and work ethic can and should be platformed...even drooled after.

5. Amazing - She is one of the few people who will literally make you laugh out loud, people stared at me at the airport. Her candid personality and hilarity will bring a smile to your face while she promotes a positive message about confidence and strength to the younger female population. It only makes one wish how much fun it would be to spend time with her in real life, except your abs would be sore the next day.

6. Mindy Kaling, Always a Win. - While her most recent book scored less laugh-at-loud moments from me, they were sprinkled throughout, cover to cover. Much more so than her last book, Mindy's current essays touch a more personal note, giving her writing a beautiful new depth. I would have loved another book filled to the brim with hilarity, but this more tender collection knocked it out of the park. I appreciate how much bravery it must have taken to discuss her fears, her losses, and to be so blunt about her own flaws. I think that's why she reaches people so well: she is a talented, beautiful, creative woman who works hard and isn't perfect. She doesn't need to be. My only complaint is that now, I'm done reading it!
2015-11-02
7. Totally worth it! - I love everything Mindy writes, creates, stars in...and this book delivers! My only complaint is that I wish it was longer. A treat was the day in the life section, as I wondered how she managed to do it all. Her essay on confidence was so honest, and also a different take from what you typically hear, and I personally found it helpful.
2015-09-24
8. Brilliant! - I don't know what it is about Mindy. She is so intellectual and funny and completely tells it like it is. This collection of essays isn't like others books, it's refreshing and always keeps you wanting more. I honestly didn't want it to end. I bought the physical copy and the audiobook. I recommend getting both but if you can't, just get the audiobook. Listening to her read it is way cooler that I thought it would be. I would give it a out of !
2015-09-23
9. Delightful/Insightful - Mindy is funny and articulate. A worthwhile read, especially for young women. Mindy is a delightful and insightful foil to vacuous Hollywood archetypes. You'll want Mindy to win, because she wants you to win. She speaks with effusive empathy and with uncommon conviction, to challenges we all face, in a world where there really is room for both of us to win.

1. Ok, but worth it - This book was the first book in my new book club. We all love Issa and really wanted to read this title. For some it wasn’t so great but for me I appreciated most of the book. My favorites were the chapter on Black women and Asian men & The Fashion chapter. I’m so much like Issa it’s crazy! I didn’t like the end I felt it could have been more but I’m a fan so I definitely enjoyed it.

2. Brilliant and relatable - Every person who has ever struggled with not fitting-in needs to read this book. Such a great read that I couldn't put it down! I am an "Awkward Black Girl" too and I always knew I was different but never realized there were others like me. Issa Rae is able to articulate the intricacies of being awkward so well that I sometimes felt like I was reading my about myself. She weaves self-deprecating humor and serious insight and inspiration so effortlessly. I'm and it's taken me so many years to be comfortable in my awkwardness. Reading this book reaffirmed to me that it's okay to be awkward and it's actually even okay to be black and awkward. Can't wait to read more books from Issa Rae.

3. I wish it was longer - Oh Issa, I feel as if she is one of my wise under year old aunts. As I am making my way though my senior undergraduate year- reading this book has made me realize that it is berable. I have realized that I have so much ahead of me, I can be funny black female that acknowldges her feminity but does not view it has a con. This book has inspire me to be myself- not the mixed black girl the blak people/ white people or who ever else they think I should be. I will not deny my ethnicites to fit into a box for no one. I will eat slices of pizza and not feel bad about others watching me. I am not at the place where I would like to be in life- but this book has definitely made me realize that years is not the end or the peak of my life. Most importantly I have accepted that I can live my life as the person I was created to be

1. Laughed out loud - I read this book about years ago. I made the mistake of laying down to read, a ritual for me because I can't read pages of any book without dozing off. Needless to say, I did not drift off to sleep as planned. I was laughing so hard I literally rolled out of bed. Favorite chapter? "Can't kill the rooster".

1. Banned book in my school - When I first saw this book it was years ago in a theology class at a small catholic high school where the book ended up being banned from the school very quickly. When I read it I thought it was one of the funniest things in college and my friends and I were determined to similar things while we were in college. My boyfriend would read it at night, every night to his roommates as a "bedtime story" at his fraternity house. Well I just have to say that some of the things in this fantastic book inspired countless unforgettable nights..many if which I was told about the next day. Thank you.

2. Passed around Iraq faster than Heat Stroke!!!! - He got my unit through a rough tour in Iraq doing Detainee Operations in Camp Bucca, and Kuwait doing flight ops on Ali Al Salem Air Base ( miles from Iraqi boarder)!!! Wonderful writer who portrays things in a way that are relatable and just plain hilarious!!!! My husband and I sit around reading his books on our down time and try not to die laughing!!! Though where are 'Belligerence and Debauchery: The Tucker Max Stories' and 'The Definitive Book of Pick-Up Lines'?
There are still copies floating around Iraq that I brought with me with the intended purpose of lightning spirits during mortar fire!!!!

1. Best one yet - This book is a collection of his most honest and personal writing yet. There is still humor and laugh out loud moments, but the stories are so much deeper than that. This is an introspective collection of essays that I truly love every time I read them. Spectacular. (The essay about Carol the fox is my favorite.)
2019-12-17
2. Calypso - Ok, but not what I had hoped for. Dark, sad, and with a mean streak that I didn’t need. I’ve loved Sadaris’ other works, but this was disappointing—I think it was the self-absorbed back note that wasn’t present before. Not giving up though, and if this was cathartic for DS in some way, I’m glad for it.
2019-04-26
3. Unworthy - This is the second book I read of Sedaris. I wouldn’t have finished the book if my impression of the first book was not positive. I was very disappointed with the self important tone, the stories that have no real insights or any depth. They were mostly not witty of funny either. I was particularly repulsed by the newly rich shopping spree in Japan, and the juvenile potty humor. He certainly lost his way in this book. It was a waste of my time.
2018-12-31
4. Dark Humor Goes Awry - I like David Sedaris’ writing style. It’s easy to read, flows nicely from sentence to sentence. Usually I enjoy his writing. This book was dark. Heavy. Sad. And not funny or humorous. Sure, there is a passage here or there that offers a chuckle. Overall, I felt sad for him and his family. An alcoholic dead mother, a bipolar dead sister, a pack rat, hoarding barely alive mean old SOB father, greedy sisters, and a mostly out of the picture brother. That grown siblings could produce only daughter/niece between them is a testament to dysfunction. And the opening chapters of excess just made me mad. A house in England, a spur of the minute beach house purchase on OBX, shopping sprees in Japan for crap no one needs. It’s like his narcissistic ego is saying, “Look at me! I’ve made it as an author! I have money to blow and you don’t.” What exactly makes him better than Trump then? He refused to see his sister, divides his house into mine (better) and the rest of the family (worse), gloats about his too hard, writer’s life existence. I really wanted to enjoy this book, but just couldn’t.
2018-08-04
5. Calypso - The iBooks review is well-writ, better than I could do. If you haven't already, become endeared to this author by reading Me Talk Pretty One Day, and, Naked, I do recommend. This book would then follow as strikingly human, like coming back to an old, frank, and rather odd friend. Have yet to finish it, I'm savoring each essay.

1. Everyone could benefit from reading this! - Tina Fey is hilarious from cover to cover, and is someone that I honestly felt I could relate to. She was able to mix the perfect cocktail for humor but serious lessons from her successful life. I suggest especially young women (and women born specifically in the late s/early s) to give it a try. I didn't know what I expected but I absolutely loved what I found.
2015-03-25
2. Bossy pants - This is one of the funniest, heartwarming and insightful books I've read! I have always loved Tina Fey but I have a new found respect for her as a person. She has nothing to worry about should she not get that next coveted TV show or movie contract because her true ability is in her writing and the amazing gift of being able to convey humor, empathy, love and a critical eye to her fellow man! Please write another book Tina. db
2014-05-25
3. Worst book I've ever purchased - Bossypants is a waste of time and money. The book has no structure and it's not at all funny. Actually it's offensive. I don't really understand how the book is supposed to go, she tells a life story and then starts up with her offensive jokes. I don't write reviews typically, so if I'm taking time out of my day to save you from this book then you know it's bad.
2014-04-29
4. Simply the best - I'm a guy and I love this book! The main reason I bought its because I'm such a big fan of Tina fey, I could watch rock over and over again and never get tired of it, she's my inspiration and I've had a crush on her for soo long and I'm only lol, anyways Tina thank u for writing this book it's funny and it feels like ur talking right in front of me, u are the best, and I hope u make another show. Ps this is one of the few books I actually finished in lifetime !!!! Maybe well get married ;) Jk Jeff's a lucky guy

5. Bossy Pants - Easy read, just reminds one how smart and funny WOMEN can be! I know Tina and I would be fast friends. I hope to meet her one day and commiserate our daily lives. Humor is the best medicine, not to mention less expensive than drugs and it doesn't leave you with a hangover or pregnant, ha!
2013-05-24
6. Comedic Genius - Tina Fey is honest, down to earth and just down right a comedic genius! She shows us that women can strive to become whatever we set our minds to. She gives us a look into her life and makes the reader feel as if she was having a conversation with you. Whether you love her for her work on Rock, SNL, her films or you just picked up the book because your friend recommended it to you, it's safe to say that you will not, I repeat will not, put this book down until you're finished with it!
2013-02-10
7. Bossypants a mind blower - Tina Fey does not disappoint in her book, Bossypants. She is an incredible story teller, witty and laugh out loud hilarious throughout the entire book. You just love her because she makes you with her painful life moments and flat out honesty about what obstacles life can throw at you. Amazing read.
2012-10-02
8. Must read hilarity! - This is honestly the funniest book I have ever read. I was laughing so hard that people were staring at me! Tina Fey does an amazing job of turning an autobiography into something much more than running her credits. She is a brilliant writer and this book will have you wetting your pants!
2012-08-04
9. Fast Food Writing - The book wasn't as good as I had anticipated it to be. It seems as though it was written too quickly and didn't give Fey a chance to let her comedic talents shine as well as they could have with more time. To a certain extent, it's understandable, knowing that with popularity and profit, time is always of the essence. There are many good moments and angles that could have been developed more, such as the (slow) evolution of expectations and stereotypes for women in comedy, the struggle to find balance between home & professional life, and the consequences for female impersonators of political figures. It was a brave & ernest move to discuss every woman's dilemma regarding children; I personally appreciated her candidness. It was a nice, quick read, but perhaps my expectations for more insight and wit were too high considering the price I paid for the book.
2012-06-21
10. A good read - It's a good read with good humor. The book is all over the place though, I wish it was more in order of some type. She certainly gave me a few chuckles which is hard to do through a book but at times her humor was a little...dry. Overall, I enjoyed it and would definitely recommend it as a good, easy read.
2012-06-09
11. I never wanted this book to end. - I liked Tina Fey before reading this book, but now I LOVE Tina Fey. Her anecdotes and humor gave my insight into how she became the woman she is (she's successful, but definitely had to pay a price for that success with her personal life), how she views the world, and why we need her to keep doing what she does. She's fighting the good fight for women everywhere in the entertainment world. I thank her for that. She inspired me just as much as she made me laugh. I hope she writes more!
2012-05-07
12. Thank God for virtual paper! - Laughed my butt off. Tina Fey is absolutely hilarious. My only gripes come with sort of stupid little annoyances... pages of footnotes? Was this just for the digital version? Then another or pages of reviews... Like I said, just nit-picky stuff... still funny as heck and worth the purchase.
2012-04-14
13. LOL - A book that will make you Laugh Out Loud when you read it, and re-read it. Very funny and appreciative life lessons given first-hand by Tina Fey. I have never read a book about a person with so much enthusiasm for their work (exception: Steve Jobs, but he was a little scary at times!) and life. I would recommend this book to anyone.
2012-04-12
14. Yay Tina Fay - I must admit , my generation did not grow up watching Saturday Night Live ( or Saturday Night Alive as my grandmother called it). However, I found this book insightful on the ins and outs of the most famous sketch comedy show ever. Oh, and I liked Tina's story as well! It was entertaining, hilarious, and moving (ok maybe not the last part. But the dang thing was good!
I hope she decides to write a second book soon titled, "Tina Tina, Bang Bang" and shares all of her sexcapAdes .. Someone just told me that's what this book was about... Oh.. My bad.
Tina I love you, and have since become a huge fan of Rock! -Kat Venditti

15. Bossypants- Refreshingly true - In the tradition of the style of the insightful Rachel Maddow, Tina Fey writes directly about current and timely topics in a style that shows clarity, humility, and wit. Her book, while presenting an interesting history of her career path, reads like an informal,
conversational commentary on life in front and behind the scenes. In discussing her Sarah Palin role, she graciously defers to her fellow actors, writers, and make up/hair cast and crew, in describing how this experience fit in with her personal growth and reflected the mood of national politics at the time. Ms. Fey seemingly effortlessly entertains with her ability to turn even a long trip to visit the in-law's for the holidays, into a cheery commentary on how to turn a routine situation into a fun comedy bit. It's no wonder that she calls her work her dream job; it's a perfect fit -lucky for us! We could all learn to use humor to get through the day! Louise D. Herman

16. I'm bossing you around to read this book! - Usually people who write about themselves are very secure and feel like the world should be thankful that we paid their price. I heard so many celebs saying that the book was a must read, cannot be missed yada yada yada. Anyway - please whatever you do LISTEN to the hype. You really will be belly laughing and that's no joke.

1. Don’t listen to Dan - This book is laugh out loud funny. Randall Munroe just knows how to make things interesting. Is any of the information in here useful? Absolutely not. Is it fun and entertaining? Most definitely! I don’t think this is as good as the first “What If” but it is worth a read for sure.

1. Caught myself laughing out loud! - This book reads like Tiffany is chatting up with you! I loved her on Girls Trip and I had caught her a couple times on Chelsea lately I didn’t know about her life. This book really does go deep into her life even the uncomfortable parts! Which I really enjoyed because in the uncomfortable moments is where we can actually learn. Stop reading this review and read this book!

2. The Real Deal - The shock, pain, her real heart was put on the table. Like the gem she is, she entertained with comedy through the whole book. I cried laughing through my hurt for her past but she makes you laugh. I could hear her voice in every word. I know I screamed with excitement as she excelled and MADE IT ! So deserving, soooo amazing that her story went from rags to riches and she was able to clap back at all those jokers!!! Go Tiffany!!!

3. Worth the Hype - So I'm not much of a reader or a reader at all really, but after seeing all the great reviews I had to see for myself. It was definitely worth it and I couldn't put it down. It was a tear jerker to all out LOL! I really hope that they will make this into a movie as it is well deserved. This has definitely given me a new level of respect for Ms. Tiffany Haddish. I love you and thank you for blessing us with your story.

8. The Last Black Unicorn by Tiffany Haddish - I want to thank Tiffany soooo much because this book blessed me beyond measure. It took me only full days to finish it. Actually, I paused for a day just to process what I read thus far. It felt like I was having a conversation with a “sister girl”, and couldn’t wait to pick up the story so we could “talk” again. In many instances I saw myself in her story. As a young girl, there were times when I felt overlooked, or that no one cared what I thought. Tiffany Haddish is my “new friend” and “Shero”. We may never meet in person, but please know that your story has empowered me, & broadened my perspective as a Social Worker. THANK YOU for your transparency, candor and Oh My Gosh...the humor! Romans : says “All things work together for good”, and your life is a true example of that. Please, don’t ever stop telling your story... some young girl/boy needs to know that they can make it; because you did. When God created you, he knew the end BEFORE the beginning. I’m glad He gave you a glimpse of your success, and now you’re reaping the harvest of your dreams.

9. Start to finish good read - Bought the book yesterday, sat down to read it last night, finished the whole book by tonight. Granted it’s pages and I’m not a fast reader because I don’t have time to read often but I LOVED THE BOOK FROM COVER TO COVER. I’m a mom with a three year old and it was hard to tear away my attention from the book. I stood up late and woke up early to read it. I laughed so hard I had a coughing fit. I’ve definitely already recommended it to four people.

10. BOMB.COM - This book was amazinggggg! Not only was it funny, but it had real life events as well. I’m sure many of us all across the world could relate to at least one story. Tiffany Haddish you’re amazing, beautiful, smart, kind, humble, and very talented!! Can’t wait to see where life takes you! RoleModelForLife

11. Soul Sisters - I read this book as though I were reading some of my own thoughts from my past. She touched parts about the foster home that brought tears into my eyes, but then her goofy butt turns around and makes you die laughing right after. I can see a lot of pain in the midst of her words and it makes you want to read on.... like somehow reading this until the end will heal everything... Very very good book

12. Tiffany haddish is my spirit animal - I just love her. Her voice comes through so clear and real in this book. She is seriously one of the funniest comedians I’ve ever had the pleasure of being made to laugh by. I think she’s a real special soul. This book is worth reading, not only because it’s hella funny, but Tiffany’s story is unique and painful and hysterical and gross and beautiful... it’s a story worth knowing.

1. Higher Hopes - Feel like Mrs. Fey really shorthanded her readers with stories and experiences at SNL and Rock, there was also no mention of movies she was a part of or hosting award shows. It's an okay book but very passive throughout. Wouldn't have hurt to get a better insight on both her personal and professional life. She played it very safe and sometimes that hurts more than it helps. Would recommend a pass on reading this one. I'm male BTW
2015-10-06
2. Smart and funny and witty - A really wonderful read, I love Tina Fey's voice and point of view. "They " ( I don't know exactly who 'they' is, but those who set the rules on such things) should make this mandatory reading for girls age & and up. Tina is funny, smart, witty (not very good with the adjectives, sorry about the repeat). I'm just so proud to be a woman, knowing there are those like Tina Fey out there too. Thanks for sharing your pov Tina!

3. Made me laugh - I love tina fey and enjoyed reading more about her life and am still a fan of hers. I think I wasn't quite sure what I was reading at first, all the short stories and chapters were pieces of her life but it was a little too scattered and random for me, but a lot of it tied in during later chapters. I still laughed and enjoyed the read, just wasn't my favorite.

4. My first book - I have never read any English before this book. Bossypants is a great introduction to the language. In case a word or phrase may confuse you please refer to the photos or notes at the end of the book for context clues. Tina, you are very funny and extremely beautiful. One day I hope to host SNL the same night you return to Weekend Update with Jimmy to break the news of America's first gay female president. Headline reads "From she to shining she" with a photo of Mrs. President and the second lady holding America in their palms. My favorite moments of yours are from Rock. Whenever you raise your voice, protrude your belly, and make an uncomfortable face it feels like I get to watch you and not Liz. I'll only know once I meet you and buy you a dozen cupcakes while picking your brain (metaphorically…I may be from FL but I'm not crazy). Can't wait to watch your new films and read your upcoming books. Mike Buonaiuto Jr.

5. Bossy Pants - This book is remarkably entertaining. The unflinching narrative on her formative experiences offers enlightenment in a fast, fun read. Her take on excelling in male dominated settings without compromising self or spirit offer more and better insight than any self help or management book. I loved it.

6. bossypants - I have missed laughing reading Erma Bombeck books. This is the first book that I have laughed out loud and annoyed those around me, since her last book. It was worth getting into a spat with my husband as I would not let him use the iPad till I was finished with this book. Please write more

7. Laughed the whole way through... - What a fabulous picture of reality... I loved every chapter, laughed and got every joke, generational or decade reference and felt like I was reading the words that are in my own head by with a much funnier cover and perfect timing. Ms. Fey, you are delightful. Thanks for sharing.

8. I'm laughing out loud - I laughed out loud many times and had to read full pages aloud to my husband. When I read the chapter "Growing up and liking it" I remembered finding that book in my big sister's drawer and wondering...."what the heck" ( we didn't use the "F" word in those days!
Anyway, I love you, Tina Fey and hope you keep on writing and doing what you do. Congrats on the new little one, I am sure you will have lots more to write about now!

1. Surprised - Have you ever had a friend recommend a book and you thought life is probably too short? What I mean is, you respect them as a friend but you think their overzealousness about a particular book is rather annoying. So a friend of mine recommended this book years ago and I was wrong not to try it. What a funny and unusual collection of short stories! The character development is possibly the author's strength. Also, the insights into human nature are wonderful. I was unfamiliar with the works of P.G. Wodehouse before this but I would love to read more. Enjoy!

1. Don't listen to those two idiot reviews! - While David Sedaris may be gay, his books aren't explicitly for gay people. I'm a straight guy, and there is little that made me uncomfortable. Since his books are essays about things that happened in his life, of course there's going to be stories that deal with gay issues. But for the most part, his essays are stories everyone can relate to.

1. Easy breezy book - It is a fun, easy to read book that practically gives you whiplash between the 'Yay! Being a single girl finding myself rocks!' and the 'finding a man is my happy ending' cliche. My hopes when opening this book was to hear more about her travels and the people she meets, but it was more of a chronicle of her search for hook ups. All in all, a fun summer read that screams, 'You need a man to have fun'.

1. Light and Motivational - It’s also funny, especially if you read it in his voice (not out-loud). His drive in life to keep going, to think highly of himself, and to believe that no dream is too big, is motivating. It helps you put into perspective what standards you need to hold yourself to. But he is also humble about it; which is really the highlight. He truly accepts failures as life lessons, something we should strive by.

1. Dad Has Kids in NYC - This is a great, light holiday read, when you are burned out from studying linguistics or neurobiology or whatever -- when your brain needs a vacation and a laugh. A lot of this material will be familiar to fans, especially if you recently binge watched of his comedy specials. That was our New Years Eve. I'm not sure if being or having been a parent is a prerequisite for fully enjoying this book. Maybe being a former child is good enough. If you are considering being a parent, this will help you weighs the pros and cons.

2. Dad is fat - I loved this book. It is funny and insightful. I'm a mom of living in the country in Maine and so many of his thoughts on parenting rang true with me; even though he is raising kids in NYC. Makes me feel good that we are all facing the same challenges and maybe our kids are normal..... Maybe.

3. Had nothing else going on so thought I'd read this - Ah, just kidding. Well sort of. Love this guy when I've seen him on TV and have a CD that I listen to his stand up while I'm in the car driving my two boys around all summer. Interesting, funny and loving. Learned quite a bit, like I'm glad I stopped at two boys. No just kidding again. He is interesting and entertaining and love his crazy family life. Thought it was a very good read. Really enjoyed it and would recommend. Gunna pick up a copy for my sister who is also a fan and mom of twins. Think she will really enjoy.

4. Bravo - This book hits in the gut, more than I could of imagined. I fell in love with this family. I laughed, cried and surprisingly related. You two seem to really love each other! There's not a lot of that anymore. The way you talk about your wife is amazing! I was very young when I had both of my boys. I made a permanent decision very young, now I no longer can have kids. After only having two I really regret not having more. Family is the most important fun thing in the world! Thank you Gaffigan family for opening your home for us to look into! Can't wait to hear when is on the way.

5. Loved. It. - I literally laughed out loud through every chapter. I love how insightful and hilarious he is about the stuff people say and think about other people with and without kids. I'll admit I'm slightly terrified to have children now... years into marriage. "Why don't you have kids??" We don't believe in procreation. Or...we actually just like each other. Great book!

6. A must read for any parent - Jim Gaffigan has out done himself with this book. It is hilarious and a must read for any parent. It is a compilation of short stories about his kids and the trials and tribulations of being a parent. I found myself laughing out loud in almost every chapter. After I read it I bought more copies to give to some friends. Everyone has loved it!!
2013-12-24
7. Dad is Fat - Jim Gaffigan is with out a doubt, my favorite comedian. I've never laughed out loud like I do with him. This book has caught me in many of the same situations as a dad of children myself. "Dad is Fat" is a fast and very fun read. Get lost in his world as a dad that many can relate to and laugh along the way.
2013-09-18
8. Dad is fat - Jim Gaffigan is the funniest man alive! He is. No, really, he is. He writes a book that is laugh-out-loud funny but never at anyone's expense but his own. Any parent can relate but it's so funny that even if you don't have kids you will enjoy this book and be glad you paid $. for it. Well, maybe you won't be GLAD you paid for it but, in the end you'll think it was worth it, which is more than I can say for most things I buy.

9. Dad too - I have one kid (code for NOT catholic-- just kidding). Jim, dude, buy a bigger place. If you can't afford one by now-- check your accountants pockets. We've seen him times live and the man is funny squared. I actually found myself thinking some of the exact same things with my year old boy-- kind of comforting in a sick way that I'm not alone in wanting to scream at times. Good job Jim and Jeannie :)

1. A real downer - I have many of Sedaris' books, and can easily say this one is so depressing and unfunny, I won't finish reading it. It seems to be a list of everything bad that ever happened to him, totally devoid of his usual humorous aspect, and has added in a few depressingly unfunny things written by awful women he narrates as, as if to make matters even worse on purpose. Unless you're bursting with positivity and glee, avoid this downer of a book.
2015-05-08
2. Different but the Same - I found this collection of essays a bit different from his other collections. Some chapters had "stories" that were self contained short stories. This confused me at first but I let myself enjoy their own special place of weirdness within David's world. This collection took me awhile to read only because I wanted it to last. Very enjoyable.
2014-07-08
3. Fantastic - David Sedaris is my new favorite author. His writing style is such that it's almost like he is telling you a story in person. You can hear his voice and feel the sting of his biting humor. I frequently laugh out loud, and many of the stories kept me giggling for days. Thoroughly entertaining.
2014-03-15
4. Very funny, thoughtful, irreverent - Nobody makes me laugh like David Sedaris. He is so extraordinary at crafting his thoughts, his voice so singular I hear him talking as I read. He can make the most banal of subjects--flossing for example--hilarious. My only regret is that there weren't more pages. Great, fun, easy read.

1. I love David Sedaris but... - I love David Sedaris but this is the worst book I've ever tried to read. I forced myself to read about half of the stories in this collection of shock tales thinking I was going to 'get it' soon. Nope. Why write a book of stories that made animals look worse than people in one horrific crapload of nonsense and cruel intent after another. Now I'm scared to read his next one even though I totally loved all the ones before this. So horrible.
2013-05-11
2. Different but still cool - This latest book from one of my all time favorite authors is a little different from his others, but it's still a great read. For any skeptics, I say, "Let an artist be an artist and create freely." If you insist on them creating the same work over and over, you prevent them from crafting something that may blow you away in an entirely new way. Amy and David are true artists and continue to blow me away with new and inventive projects.

3. Let down - I love David Sedaris. I have read all his books and even seen him live. I waited hours just to meet him. That said, I was very excited about his new book. I thought his new style would be a fun change. I was so wrong. Yes, there were a couple cute stories about sassy animals and their lives. But then it took a scary, sad turn. Some of these stories are just gruesome and disturbing. Skip this book and do not tarnish your love for David Sedaris.

4. When Aesop snapped - This was a particularly good find. As one who doesn't hunker down with a huge novel all the time, but starts and restarts a couple, I found Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk to be perfect.
Perhaps it was the use of animals as mouthpieces that made me think of it, but there are some definite fable qualities in these stories. However, through Mr Sedaris, we get the manifestation of a (though still Greek), a modern day storyteller who calls'em as her sees'em. Of course, as with any David Sedaris book because of his history with NPR I found myself hearing his voice as I read, which added to the engagement with the book.
These stories of arrogance, phobia, ignorance, jealousy, pity and vanity, to name a few of humanity's not-so-endearing traits, are brought to light when coming from an entirely different species, genus, family or kingdom...but smoking, drinking and swearing like my Aunt Edith. It's like rolling your eyes after each time hearing your mother drone over and over, "your gonna poke your eye out with that thing!" and then finding that the mother used to poke people's eyes out as a wild teenager. There's a shadow to these stories, and Mr Sedaris allows us a glimpse at that shadow, because there's a collective unconscious to the human condition that he's able to connect us to through the use of hens, pigs, gerbils and cats.
I didn't want the stories to end, and yet while reading them, my internal voice would continually mumble, "oh...my...god. Doesn't anyone get to experience and enjoy a little blissful ignorance?". But then, if the did, I would have felt cheated and patronized, and wouldn't have finished it...like the three other novels on my bedside table.

5. Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk - Aesop's fables meet David Sedaris. Life lessons told through the eyes of barnyard animals, imprisoned felines, naive mice, and a wise old owl. I appreciate this new turn on Sedaris's writing and hope it continues. The illustrations are beautifully drawn and enhance the stories and captivate the reader. I would say this is a must read for people who want a laugh and enjoy fables through the eyes of explicit animals.
2010-12-30
6. Do Not Bother - Worse Book Ever - I'm a huge David S. fan but have to say that this is garbage that I've ever read. NO publisher would print this book if it hadn't come from an established author with the knowledge fans of previous works would pick it up. The stories are disturbing for no point and not one laugh to be had. This is the stuff that a ten year old tells during sleep over while picking their nose.

7. What a waste of time! - I am a huge fan of David Sedaris books and look forward to each one I have purchased. This one however was a total waste of time! The concept sounded cute...stories written from the perspective of animals. Most of the stories made no sense (a cat in rehab with a bully mouse?) or were just repulsive (singing leeches in a hippos rectum?). What a huge disappointment!!!! Save your money!!!
2010-11-22
8. Wonderful - Most of the bad reviews are from people hoping for Sedaris' usual work, but their inability to open up to this book is very sad. This collection of stories can only be described as existential Aesop, with hilarious and heart-breaking charm of which Sedaris is the master. The Judicious Brown Hen is the most memorable and arguably the most important story in this work. Please don't be turned away by the bad reviews. No, this is not memoir, but it's an evolution of Sedaris that I welcome with open arms.

9. Probably the last Sedaris book I'll buy. - I really used to enjoy reading David Sedaris. His writing was funny and poignant at the same time. I began to raise my eyebrows with his last book, I just didn't find any of it funny. This st century take on Aesop's fables is, at times, mildly amusing and to me makes no points other than the obvious ones and does so without recognizable humor.

1. Terrible! warning!!! don't waste your $$ - DO NOT BUY THIS BOOK on iBooks kindle or any other device! Impossible to read because it's not formatted for iPhone. Somebody get Colbert a friggin accomplished publishing company! should be illegal to sell it in apple bookstore until it's fixed. Refund my $ and send me a hard copy!

2. Horrible Format - Completely unreadable on the iPhone, almost like it is a PDF but with two pages on one. To read anything you have to zoom in and constantly scroll around like viewing a horribly optimized web page in Safari. Was really looking forward to reading this book but it is practically impossible. Wish I could get a refund... and wish someone had mentioned this in the reviews.

1. So.Funny! Does not disappoint! - I've been reading Dave Barry columns for about years now. He is just an amazingly funny guy and a fantastic humor writer. This book made me laugh so hard when reading in bed that I ended up reading several parts aloud to my husband, so that he would stop giving me the stink eye. He always cracked up too. Definitely a good book to make you laugh when you need it!
2016-11-09
2. Laugh out loud funny - Being a native Floridian who ran as far away from home as I could as fast as I could I have to say that Dave nailed it. This book is everything you may or may not want to know about "America's Outback". God I miss it. No, not really. But I digress. This book is gut busting hilarious whether you lived or vacationed in Florida or even if you've never been there or even know exactly where it is. One question-Dave are you and Carl the same person or did he peek at your notes? You both came out with a book on the same day and both books include the same zany characters...
Take it from me, Bernice, skip "Razor Girl" and go straight to "Best State Ever". You won't regret it.

1. My HERO!!!!
2012-02-24
2. AWESOME!!!!! - I loved it. I have been a fan for a long time and can't stop re-reading his books. It was great but unfortunately it wasn't as funny as the last one. I think I am a little more mature now and that's why it wasn't so funny but it still had some pretty hilarious parts. Tucker Max is one of my idols and I will probably name my first born son after him. Thank you for the experience of writing this and I can't wait for the next one to come out tomorrow.
2012-02-06
3. The other side of Max - Most of you getting ready to read this probably already read I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell (IHTSBIH), if not I suggest reading it before you jump into this one. I have never in my life finished a book on my own, until IHTSBIH and now AFF. Tucker Max is not only a great writer but is open and honest about his life. I thought I had a good idea of he personality until I was corrected by the less exciting yet still enticing second half of AFF. I definitely recommend this and any other Tucker Max book. I do suggest it to a mature audience though. Enjoy!
2012-01-01
4. Worth the $$$ and THEN SOME! - Your don't have to read "I Hope They Serve Beer In Hell" to really enjoy this book. It's a great read and you won't want to put it down. I read it at work and it ended up being passed among my coworkers once I was done bc everyone was curious to know why I was stifling giggles so much!! My dad read it and cracked up!! It's basically a-hole Fratboy meets world....in a very socially awkward and careless fashion!!
2011-11-10
5. Very good book - As someone who is extremely picky with books, this is one I stay up to read. It's absolutely hilarious. And that's a good book if it can pull me in like this one has. I wanted to buy the actual book at the local bookstore, but I couldn't wait after reading the preview. It's a very good mixture of humor, honesty, grittiness, and fun. It's overall a great book. I'm surprised someone who's done all this crap you will read about, and legibly go back and write about it in a proper manner while retaining the story. Worth the money.
2011-10-24
6. Very Entertaining - Tucker Max is truly a modern-day Hunter S. Thompson. In a time when male chauvinism has basically disappeared from popular culture and has been literally taken over by feminism, Max goes all out in portraying himself as the epitome of what popular twentieth century male authors were. Certainly a breath of fresh air, I really enjoyed reading this! I would definitely recommend it!!
2011-10-18
7. Amazing follow up!! - The difference, for me, from IHTSBIH and this book is hat you can actually see a level of humanity and personal growth in the author. Sure, the book still has all of the sex and crazy shenanigans that his first book had but I feel like you see a little more into the soul of the author. Can't wait to see what happens next!!!
2011-06-09
8. Being generous - I feel that I am being generous by giving it stars! It is a good book, but by no means does it compare to 'I hope they serve beer in hell.' the first half of the book is absolutely hilarious! The clown crawl, duke campout, tuckerfest stories are all great. The second half of the book was boring in my opinion but that could be because I tucker's first book set high bar! Worth buying but don't expect it to be anything special.
2011-01-24
9. It's OK, entertaining - I think some of the stories are entertaining but clearly there are more than a few that are completely made up or substantially embellished. Still the book works for me because TM tells the kind of stories me and my friends tell when we get together. This book was a bit long and as a law school grad, I expected TM's writing to be a bit better, but overall I liked the book and will read Hilarity Ensues.
2010-12-28
10. Karma - I am writing this review just finishing AFF. I was good, not as hilariously entertaining s IHTSBIH, but still laugh out loud funny. I liked seeing the "other" side of Tucker Max. The bitter, shameful, karma Tucker Max that was somewhat prevalent. The first book inspired me, opened me up to my own individuality and sexuality. Gave me freedom. This one showed that some freedoms come with consciences. I am still inspired, and will one day finish my book, but until then I will continue to read Tucker Max books.

1. Kaling is amazing in every aspect - This book was amazing. I do not regret the nights staying up to continue reading it. It made me laugh out loud, made question things in life, and made me want to watch reruns of her shows. Mindy Kaling is truely talented in everything she does. If you love her other works, you will not be disappointed.
2015-05-03
2. Worth the read - I really felt let in to mindys life and world I admire her girly charm and witty comments on just about everything I never knew how much she had contributed to my favorite show (The office) i loved reading about her child hood I really think people forget celebrities live/lived normal lives and I can't wait to read another book written by the fabulous quirky spunky Mindy Kailing ")

3. LOVE LOVE LOVE - Mindy writes in a way where you feel like you're sitting down over coffee as she rehashes some hilarious moments from her past. She's so relatable and she has a way of making you think back and remember some of the funniest moments of your own past. I am disappointed though, as she's left me with numerous questions such as... Do Mindy and Brenda still spend time writing together for funsies? Can she elaborate on David? When will Matt & Ben: The Bourne Sequel come out? Will Mindy and Brenda still portray Matt and Ben themselves? Have they considered having Matt and Ben play each other? Will Mindy ever have own late night talk show? Is it okay to request that, at some point, she does? If I were to run into Mindy, would it be acceptable to give her a hug and tell her she's amazing? I have a ton of silly, arbitrary questions that I would love answered. I'll send them to Mindy so she can appropriately answer them all in her next book. Or whenever. I get she's busy with a ton of things. I'd hate to see any of her projects suffer. Okay, I'm rambling. If you love Mindy Kaling, you will love her book even more. Okay, not more, but, like, you know what I mean. Great job!
2014-11-24
4. I couldn't put it down - I'm a fan of Mindy's so I had to read her book. I'm so glad I did. It's very easy to get lost in this book, she's such a great story teller. If you think you have a good idea about who Mindy is based off her shows, your in for a treat she's a lil of each character she plays and so much more. I hate that I finished the book, but I leave it feeling like I've known Mindy for a long time.

5. Fun read! - I enjoyed this book! I think it boils down to this--if you're a fan of Mindy Kaling and her work, you'll like this book. If you're not a fan, don't read this, because you won't find it funny. The Mindy Project is one of my favorite shows, so I really enjoyed reading this collection of stories. I only wish I'd gotten the enhanced version, which I may do in the future!

6. I adored it!!! - As a writer about to move to LA in hopes to land a long career on a great tv series and hopefully star in my own tv show one day, this book was amazing and completely inspiring. I read it in an entire day since I'm snowed in and can't leave my house at all. I loved Mindy on The Office and had no idea she wrote some of the funniest episodes. I now love The Mindy Project and I'm just obsessed over and her and proud of her success. I've finally found a nonwhite woman to look up to!!! Yay!! I can't wait to hear more from her!

7. I.loved.this.book. The End - Mindy Kaling (who has always been my friend in my head but not in a stalkerish, weirdo way but in a "bumped into her at the grocery store and now we are friends" kinda way) is laugh out loud funny. This book literally had me in tears at my doctor's office (yes people were looking at me strangely but I didn't care, Thanks Min) and I can't wait to read it again. Love it!
2014-01-02
8. Good read - I enjoyed reading this book and wished it was out there when I was a young girl, as it motivates you to keep sight of your goals... I on the other hand am the same age as Mindy and lost sight if my goals. I wished she would have included what happened to Brenda her bff, since she was featured in the book so much and then not talked about after she moved to LA... But you know they are still friends bc she was Mindy's date to an award show.

1. Just Ok - While I appreciate Claudia‘s insights and self awareness for the extremely privileged life she has led, I was disappointed the more I learned about her and her opinions. I don’t think young women should idolize someone who cares so much about celebrity gossip. While I do not fault Claudia for tweets from her teen years that she has since apologized for, I do fault her for glossing over the grossly Islamaphobic and racist comments her mother makes on a daily basis. Let’s call a spade a spade, the reason her mother is not on any of her daughters social media is not because of her safety but because they are aware of the public’s opinion. It is well known that she is their mother and so if the issue was safety they would not post their location at all. I too have lost a parent and understand the bond you hold with your remaining parent but that doesn’t mean as a public figure who chooses to release a memoir that you can call her views conservative and move on. Disappointing.

2. This book has it all - would recommend for any pop culture enthusiast - This is the first book I've read that made me cry & laugh out loud. The chapters on grief are heart wrenching and relatable. The pop culture references are told in a way that you'd imagine your best friend recounting a Hollywood party if she was somehow famous for a night and came home to share the details with her home friends. The true theme of this book is growth and the ability to learn and move forward. We are all given hurdles in life but Claudia recounts her struggles and missteps with simultaneous self awareness and compassion.

1. A TWENTIES MUST READ - Dolly encapsulates the joyful memories of youth with the daunting anxieties of age in a clever, witty and artfully written novel. 1. I read every single page of this book… - That is a lie. BUT, I read every single page up to the notes (bibliography) and the index. I read every footnote. I read the acknowledgements. I read it all (well, again, almost all). And you know what? I very well may read it again and here’s why… It’s good. Very, very good. The main purpose of this book seems to be to help make us all better people, with emphasis on “people.” I learned a lot, I laughed a lot, and I thought a lot. And, I don’t know about you, but those three things make any book utterly enjoyable. And, for what it’s worth, I hate reading philosophy and this book is chock full of it. (Also, that’s not like “hate watching the last seasons of ‘Lost’” but rather I really HATE reading philosophy.) Hope this was helpful. Reading the book will be more so. Enjoy.

2. Wanted to love it - Like some of the other reviews here, I went into the audiobook really wanting to embrace this work. Initially, I wasn’t disappointed. Schur chose very interesting subject matter (at least to me) and educates his reader in a well-organized, humorous and entertaining manner. He makes classic philosophy very approachable and he deserves credit for that. Unfortunately, and after getting more than halfway through, I began to find his proclivity to interject his own political and social beliefs into the work to be not only unnecessary but distracting. So I gave up, which is a shame because the frequency of such interjections are ultimately to the detriment of his work. He could’ve easily accomplished his goals and probably even appealed to a wider audience without such commentary. I’d like to note that I’m very moderate in my leanings and I usually welcome opposite viewpoints. But I found his proselytizing to be gratuitous, and I read books to escape that sort of thing.

3. Started out well.... - The author has spent a lot of years in comedy. The book is funny throughout. He's also spent a lot of years in Hollywood, consequently he believes his words are important and should guide us. When it became readily apparent where his political persuasions were leading the reader, he lost me. Completely. I'm so, so tired of Hollywood elitists believing they can preach to the general public. He's woke; the world is not. He's white & privileged; he's sorry. Typical. Sorry I spent the money.

1. - I had trouble finishing this book. I also find the layout of the chapters confusing given the title and the circumstances she’s been in. She ends each chapter with advice and tips LOL. Like, what!?! I feel this book was meant to generate income since her income was cut off: it’s very surface level content with no real value.

2. Transparent, relatable, entertaining - As a person who has made mistakes (and been crucified for them), I found this book very relatable. She was honest and transparent about her mistakes and I love the growth she has shown. Her discussion about pregnancy, marriage and motherhood were so fun to read. I love how honest she is - I read this in day. Highly recommend
