1. This was a Pulitzer Prize winning novel?? - I bought this book (and accidentally bought the audio version too) and lord was I disappointed. This was a Pulitzer Prize winner? I couldn’t get through it. The book was confusing, boring, and to use a phrase from the book: it was magniloquent spoony. For the life of me, I can’t understand how this book is a Pulitzer Prize winning novel.
2022-01-312. About a gay guy. - So, I have mixed feelings about this book. I found it hard to identify with the character and I stopped reading before I got through the first chapter. I totally support the LGBT community, but I think if this guy was straight talking about the women he dated, I think I would have had the same reaction. He had a very casual relationship with this guy and lots of others too and all of a sudden, he has to run away from his wedding? Really?
2019-06-203. Slow build, leaves you thinking - This book reads like a page-turning summer read overall but every once in a while you get whacked with a solid upper cut that leaves you breathless and wondering where it came from. At several points, I had to stop and reread sections to get the full effect. / of the way through the book, I was sold but still not convinced of the Pulitzer status. The second I finished the last page, tears streaming down my face, however, I already knew I needed to read it again. Arthur Less is at once the most boring and most relatable character I’ve read in years. He is me, us. Reading his story made me think about my own life experiences, my own desires and fears. Less has a wonderful, easy quality to it. It reads quickly but delivers pleasing moments of mysticism, philosophy, romance, self-help, and even religion. It makes you think without being heavy or demanding. I’m rereading as we speak and will likely pass through it a few more times before I’m done. I highly recommend this book to anyone who’s ever loved or been loved.
2018-10-234. More of Less, Please! - Andrew Sean Greer introduces us to Less, a middling writer suffering from a double heartbreak. The character is a bit befuddled by circumstances, too trusting by half, and in for the trip of a lifetime. By the end of the book I was completely enamours by both Less and his creator. The writing is impeccable, the humor is equal parts mad-cap and poignant, and the story is a delight to read. I’m very much looking forward to Mr. Greer’s next work.

Less - I have to admit that I don't read novels about gay characters because I don't want to read stories about people who make disparaging remarks about faith, morality, and life that has more meaning than just gratifying sexual self. I would not have bought this novel if the synopsis had given this information! It is sad to read about a life so ruined by promiscuity, drugs, and self deprecation, that I had a hard time finishing it! It's easy to see why Less didn't like his life, was never satisfied with what he had, and why he never thought he was worthy to love!! So sad that he always felt inferior to Roberts "superior" intelligence. How older men always wanted to touch his innocence! Yuck!!!

1. Tender and breathtakingly brutal - I had high expectations of this book based on my thorough enjoyment of Shuggie Bain. I was not disappointed. The richly drawn characters and authentic sense of place and time carried the well constructed narrative high on their shoulders. I look forward to whatever Douglas Stuart delivers next. And if he wants to turn Mungo’s later adventures into a follow up, I would love to read whatever happens next

One star for this version!! - The book itself is wonderful, but this particular version is riddled with so many spelling errors, I mean like page after page of them, I was beginning to think they paid an ESL child to type it over from print! It makes no sense why this copy is so messed up. Spend the extra few dollars on the other iBooks version; maybe that one has sentences where you don't have to sit there for minutes wondering what the author ACTUALLY meant by the misspelled nonsense words.

1. Held Little Interest for Me Inspite of Great Narration - Alexandria Wilde (aka Abby Craden) as always does an excellent job narrating what is in this case erotica with a simple plot. There is adequate character development to provide believable reasons for the characters actions. Although I did finish the book, I did not find the storyline very interesting.

1. FUN & DANGER - Anthony Dare is the super hero agent for DVM (Department of Villain Monitorization). He’s always welcomed back after an assignment as the hero, whether it goes well or not. He’s lost a few partners along the way, but it doesn’t matter to those in the organization. Even though Anthony appears pompous, deep down inside it bothers him. With the loss of Enrique, his last partner, it left him feeling with anger, disappointment and guilt. But Anthony continues to put on a facade. Elliot Bichler is a top notch supervillain analyst and he’s fine with that. He has his own special way that he aids the agents. He reads and analyses their reports, talks with them face to face and he makes friends with them. Something Anthony has never taken advantage of. Anthony has an arch nemesis Cicero, but the code of the DVM is “get him next time”, “detain, never eliminate”, “killing only makes us like them.” Cicero apparently has some wacky ideas on how to take over the world and he has Archibald O’Leary bank rolling him. Bea is the head of DVM and when it comes to Cicero and now Archibald O’Leary she decides to send Anthony and Elliot on the assignment to Bulgaria. Well, that’s not going to work. Anthony and Elliot are already butting heads and surely don’t see eye to eye. This is just not Elliot’s type of gig! As Anthony and Elliot, face all kinds of ridiculous danger: jumping from planes; rescuing several women; riding ATV’s in the desert; a kraken; sheep clones, and being chased by Cicero and his henchmen, something between them starts to develop. For Anthony the assignment becomes more difficult as he has to carry out an order that he knows is wrong. Penelope Peters brings a fun, fast, explosive, action packed, adventurous tale with “Secret Agent Analyst.” Elliot is smart as far as being an analyst, but he just doesn’t realize he can handle so much more. He also becomes someone Anthony can lean on. The story does have a little serious side when Anthony thinks about his former partner and now his concerns for Elliot. He has some difficult situations to accept. Two other characters that make this tale fun are Daria Halloumi and scientist Zayna. Daria especially brings lot’s of excitement to the story. I highly recommend “Secret Agent Analyst” for those that like comedy with super heroes and just a little seriousness. This is my first read by Penelope Peters and I think she created some great character for this fun read.

2022-02-192. Why are you reading my review? Read this book ! - I am not going to make you read thru to find this part out: I LOVED this book. It came recommended by a friend that was pretty enthusiastic. I've got to say she did not steer me wrong. There isn't anything different or intriguing about the storyline. It is a very typical romance HEA. So, why am I so over the top in love with this book? It's the writing and the journey you get to experience with Nick and Bryce. Nick and Bryce meet, become best friends, and slowly realize they have deeper feelings than just friendship. Both Nick and Bryce have issues that hinder their ability to trust and commit. But, the fact they are both straight moving to a same gender relationship isn't the core conflict. Yes, there are issues with acceptance but Ms. Hart doesn't spend all the energy not that typical angsty storyline. I could connect with both Nick and Bryce's dilemmas as they moved forward. I could spend time summarizing the story, but I don't want to spoil any part of the read. Just pick this book up. I will say one of my favorite parts was how the author had the men deal with one minor conflict. Just like men: "I'm sorry." "I know." I love you." "I know that, too." If you are looking for a HEA romantic read, this story is for you. It's got everything you want. Sweetness, some sadness, funny lines and some very steamy scenes. Thank Riley Hart for such a fantastic novel!

1. This is for the shy romantics who sat alone for sure! - This is the first book I have ever bought immediately after reading a sample. Usually I debate with myself on whether I will buy it, hard copy or reading it from the library. I feel like I've found an answer to a life long question I couldn't quite put my finger to. An epiphany of some sort. The classic "oh this is so obvious how did I miss it? It was right there!" I am so thankful I found this story. I read it in one day and that is a feat by itself since I have ADHD and I have a migraine lol. I love love, and this book made me feel seen and loved. Representation matters so much and it's like the best feeling feeling seen, especially when so many just see you as an anomaly or the weird shy kid or whatever. This one is for all the shy kids who sat alone for sure! The shy adults too! Oh man that part is so real. I was like this is so real, thank you for writing this!!!
