1. Great resource for the beginner hacker - In trying to learn hacking/cybersecurity I quickly realized that a strong foundation in Linux is a must. This book covers a ton of topics I have been wanting to learn and presents them in a very understandable way. The exercises in the book really help to reinforce what you are learning. I recommend following along on a Kali VM of your own and do the exercises! I can see how the skills I learned will apply directly to hacking. Great read!

1. Hyper Method - In a bundle, the info flew through me but hey I learned that all taken in can have its uses. This book expands all understanding about computers, grow from a novice PC builder to an entry level coder that still has passions for the expertise in all computing. I dig the potential in Linux, I think I’d need a lesson schedule to articulate the ways I’d like to see works be done, it’s never over. Until then, Godspeed.

1. Great book for any level user - I've become an avid MPU listener over the past few months - even digging back deep into the archives - and I eagerly await every screencast that Macsparky posts to Vimeo (if you haven't seen them, you definitely need to check them out). The mail management tips alone are worth the price of admission. I fancy myself something of a mac expert and so was initially hesitant to make the purchase, but this book has helped me raise my game. And the iBooks platform is the ideal platform to showcase this type of content. Thanks David and Brett!

2. Super Ninja Tricks! - What a fantastic collection of tips and tricks! I learned something new on every page, and I'm a pretty seasoned Mac user. Love the mix of reading and screencasts. It's a very engaging way to present information. Super clear and easy to follow along. I only wish there was more! :) Thanks for another great book, David and Brett!

3. This book is an amazing investment! - Its amazing, I payed $, for this laptop and it was great, but only $ more and it has at least doubled in functionality...Never realized I was the limiting factor. I would, have, and will recommend this book to everyone I run across with a Mac. If you have ever made an impulse buy you should pick this up, its an impulse buy that you will never regret! The build of this book gives you both literary content as well as beautifully complimenting and well performed supporting videos of the exact method. Don't think about it, get it. Thanks!

4. Become a Mac Power User for the price of a Starbucks Coffee. - Attorney David Sparks (along with equally geeky Katie Floyd) host the useful and very popular "Mac Power Users" podcast. David's books are are logical, sensible and well organized. The second of his "Macsparky Field Guide" series, this multimedia work is no exception. It consists of a collection of tips for users of the latest iteration of OS X, Mountain Lion. What really makes this gem stand out are the short screencasts narrated by David or his co-author Brett Terpstra. We read about a tip or shortcut that interests us, click on the play button and voilà: the magic is played out on a virtual Mac display in front of our eyes. A great demonstration of the power of this exciting new media. Whether you are a newbie or a seasoned Mac power user, this is one you won't want to miss.

1. A Bargin @ Twice The Price! - To be able to have all of the expertise and level of trust that only MacWorld can provide, and for a mere $., is astounding to say the least. Other reviewers have given this same guide a star rating NOT because of the content in the SuperGuide, but simply because they felt comfortable trusting a total stranger posting something for free online about the new iOS . That kind of review misses the whole point of having a Product review in the first place. I have used many SuperGuides from MacWorld over the years. These guides are ALWAYS the best that money can buy (IMHO) because I feel that they consistently strike a good balance between simple to understand while still achieving a level of completeness that is usually found in books that are more verbose and too difficult to understand. This is NOT only my experience because I have helped a great many friends and family by simply telling them to buy the SuperGuides as well. They always have thanked me for referring them to such a "treasure trove" (quote from my sis) of information. Thank you MacWorld and keep up the good work! :-)

1. Very disappointing!!! - I bought this App because I liked the author's video that was installed on my MacBookPro after I switched from Windows to Mac. This App however is very disappointing. Not only can I not view this manual on my iPhone or MacBookPro but the videos on the
IPad are silent, no sound!! REALLY?!?!
2013-12-01
2. Only for beginners, Many Typos, Confusing - Very basic info on how to use iOS . Not really even "Tips," more like Instructions. Lots of annoying Typos. I thought I would enjoy the Videos in the Book, but they are silent and it's hard to follow the key-presses and sequences if you don't already know what they are! Wanted to LIKE this but it's pretty crummy.
2013-09-28
3. Only works on iPad - Why Apple would create a solution that only works on certain devices is crazy. This author created something that only works on iPads. If someone who's read many books on Kindle, buys his book when all he has is an iPhone and MBA - stupid mistake I'll only make once. I'm sticking to my Kindle app.
2013-09-23
4. Several useful tips but typos everywhere. - Most of the stuff I knew already but it was worth a buck to me for a handful of tips that were new to me and useful. I am not a grammar nutzy but the many typos were a bit annoying so it's hard to trust this publisher since they ignored a simple read through before publishing.

1. Fantastic and challenging - It’s trully challening to read John articles and reviews. He has such a deep knowledge of not only the subject at hand but also diverse array of related topics, that you must be prepared to follow quite a lot of links in this book. This is a book, like its predecessors, that demands a lot of time to be properly read. Several weeks after I got it, I have finished reading. It’s amazingly detailed and good.
2014-11-12
2. The Quinessential OS X Review! - This book is the quinessentail OS X Review from one of the smartest and knowledgeable guys on the planet… and of course, I’m talking about Mr. Siracusa. If you want to REALLY get to know the inner-workings and understand the most notebable new features of OS X Yosemite, then this book is for you. For my money there is no one more capable and more knowledgable when it comes to understanding not only the newest features of OS X but the history behind it and what it means. In short, GET THIS BOOK!!! Its a no-brainer buy. Seriously… A no brainer.
2014-10-19
3. A great in depth review as always - John's reviews of the OS help provide just the right amount of depth to give the reader an idea what is new with every release. This year in particular, the section on Swift helps explain this new cornerstone to Apple software development. Well worth the read for anyone interested in the new OS X release.
2014-10-18
4. Siracusa Does It Again! - An exceptional work covering everything going on in Yosemite with a great historical perspective. You can almost feel the yearning for HFS ’s replacement when John reveals Core Storage is now on by default for even boot volumes. His coverage of Swift and, SIL, and LLVM IR is unparalleled.
2014-10-17
5. Brilliant Clarity - John is an exceptional communicator and an insightful teacher. His writing is sharp, concise, and deeply thoughttul. His OS X reviews are legendary, and this one is no exception. Anyone who wishes deeper understanding of the design philosophy of Yosemite will find this book an essential reference.

1. ANOTHER TITLE THAT TALKS IN GENERALITIES - I have bought several eBooks and iBooks in an effort to learn MAC OS. So far, the majority, like this one talk in general about the changes in Mavericks and the new features without ever getting down to telling you exactly how to do anything. It will be refreshing when I get to an ebook or ibook that actuallly tells me how to get something done. like: FIRST DO THIS, THEN…..
2014-04-08
2. Yearly release? - Siracusa wonders if yearly releases are hampering Apple from truly revolutionizing OS X standbys like the Finder. I wonder what Siracusa's razor sharp yearly focus to one of the least exciting things coming out of Cupertino, is keeping him from. It really says something that it took me a month to finish this review, pouring over every link and detail. Without doubt, these yearly reviews are worth their weight in gold to anyone with a genuine interest in not only OS X but what Apple is thinking behind the scenes. I just wonder what else Siracusa could do if he slept a bit more and put those thousand hours of writing towards something new between WWDC and the end of fall each year.
2013-11-30
3. Siracusa knocks it out of the park… again - John Siracusa’s annual epic-length OS X review is by now an institution, but a welcome one. His keen eye for detail, encyclopedic knowledge of previous versions of OS X, accessible writing style and dry wit mean that whilst this review is ridiculously detailed, it’s also actually fun to read, especially if you care about the subject matter. Money well spent - not in the least because I feel Siracusa’s efforts should be supported - and highly recommended. Long may the Siracusa OS X review tradition continue.
2013-10-23
4. John does it again - John Siracusa's reviews are sometimes described as "comprehensive". While it's true that they are always an impressive length, I find that their greatest strength is that John manages to sift through all the miscellaneous changes and do a deep dive on the changes that are most salient. The key topics John touches on in this review are related to Mavericks's myriad of power saving features, along with some interesting explorations of how new features like tags are implemented. If you are an Apple nerd, this is a must-read.
2013-10-23
5. Great annual tradition - The formatting of this ebook is finally right when compared to last years dreadful Kindle version. Images are in there proper place with corresponding subtitles. And clicking on the images allows you to zoom in and carefully examine the minutia, much in the same way that Siracusa does when writing the review. I found reading on the iPad (black background, horizontal and in scrolling mode) to be a much more immersive experience when compared to the website edition. Hyperlinks quickly take you to Safari and a quick -finger swipe gets you right back to your reading. Bravo John. Keep the annual tradition coming!
2013-10-23
6. Great to read just after installation - It was great to buy this book and read it after the computer finished upgrading. You can follow along each chapter now that we have iBooks on OS X. John seemed to cover all the importants bits of the OS - and the book paid for itself by pointing out the Control Cmd Space shortcut. My only wish that he spent some time advising on good tagging strategies. Between sidebar links, smart folders, and now tabs and tags, I’m not sure how I’m supposed to organize all my junk!
2013-10-22
7. Doesn't get much better…. - A new Siracusa review is an event almost unto itself. John shows everyone how an OS should be ripped apart and examined. Plus he generously peppers his reviews with his wry dry wit and copious screenshots and inside jokes. I eagerly await every release with a nice single malt and some light jazz.

1. Awesome quick start, - This ebook saved me hours of time learning profile manager. I seemed to have a hard time finding all the resources from apple in one place. This book has it all including links to all the apple resources and real world experience in usage. The author had an uncanny ability to answer questions in my mind as they came up such as what happens when you have multiple profiles installed. Great job! Thanks!
2011-10-25
2. useful & easy to understand - The books covers the basics of setting up a profile server. It will probable save you time in setting up an os x server; and getting started with profile manager. it dose not how ever cover advanced topics. It also leaves out some important gotcha about how itunes, profile manager, and iphone configuration utility interact.

1. Disappointing for a David Sparks product - I’m a big fan of David Sparks and have purchased four other products of his. Frankly, this was a disappointing book and not up to his previous high standards. There are numerous typos, some empty references and a bit of clunky writing. While I know he spent a lot of time compiling this book it is poorly edited and not ready for release. If you are reasonably well read about the iPhone you’ll find too few nuggets here to justify purchase.
2018-06-18
2. Great for everyone—regardless of experience using an iPhone - If you are a fan of David Sparks’ other impressive field guides, then this is a must buy and a no-brainer. This is the perfect companion to anyone that owns an iPhone and wants to get the most out of it regardless of whether they are a Power User or new to the iPhone altogether! Thanks David for all your great work on putting out a new field guide and the dedication to keeping it updated in the future :)

3. Outstanding Guide! - This is my th McSparky product; each one has been outstanding. I follow MacPower Users regularly and have owned an iPhone for about years. I have learned so much from just these resources alone. I thought I had a good working knowledge of the iPhone. After reading David’s page eBook, I found out just how much I have somehow missed! I picked up dozens of tips and, yes, even downloaded apps which I never knew existed (most were free). I highly recommend this eBook. It is cheap at twice the price as are the other products I have purchased. Very thorough and well organized. Thank you so much to what had to be a huge effort to produce!
2018-05-08
4. An excellent guide for new and regular users - David always manages to bring what’s important clearly out front. The presentations are simple, in the way that you know they are well thought out. The iPhone is today’s Swiss army knife. It does just about everything. There are about categories of use in the book. In each category, David presents the introduction of its use, major app players in the field, his favorites, and why they might be his favorites. He makes suggestions for difference use scenarios so you can make your own decision. And, this is all coming from a guy who messes with Apple stuff quite regularly. He does not hesitate to say where he has an unfavorable impression of something, but I think he also tends to leave out much of anything that doesn’t make the cut. He’ll also give practical advice such as how with how he tends to manage his “read-it-later” type services. I use an iPhone, Powerbook, and iMac (no iPad) so this was excellent for me. While reading, I realize how settled in my ways I can get. But also, while reading, I found myself downloading a significant number of apps, many free, that I’m now trying out. I’ve also discovered silly things like stickers in the message app. Who knew there were stickers there? He also broadly categories users of the iPhone. Apparently, I’m a “two-pager”. I thought I was a unique snowflake. Ah well.
2018-04-28
5. Helps you cut out the fluff - I consider myself a pretty advanced iPhone user and although I may not have gotten many tips from a “power users” perspective, I really appreciated that the best apps were pointed out and highlighted. This allows me to try out apps and accessories that I wouldn’t have tried because of the cost. I already have a few new purchases thanks to this book and they were accurately described in the book and totally worth it! The book itself is well laid out and is very visually appealing. Kudos to David Sparks!
2018-04-28
6. Not As Advanced As Advertised - All of the reviews (on Apple blogs) said this was just as good for advanced users as beginners so I figured id give it a shot. A few chapters in and I don’t feel as if I’ve learned much that is new. There are some dead links (like one for the Nomad wallet case) and even one that is supposed to link to a later chapter and just says LINK. The quality of the writing is good but I feel like it is priced for advanced users but written largely for beginners.
2018-04-17
7. Outstanding Resource for iPhone users - The iPhone Field Guide a huge resource for iPhone users - both new and experienced! It is a comprehensive guide to getting the most from the iPhone in terms of its native features as well as the best equipment and apps. Truly outstanding - layout is excellent! Fingers are crossed that an iPad Field Guide will be next.

1. OS X Mountain Lion: the Missing Manual by Pogue - . YOU CAN READ THIS BOOK IF YOU DO NOT HAVE AN iOS DEVICE!! When you buy the book it downloads into iTunes in a folder named Pogue as the author in Books under iTunes. COPY the book and put the copy where it is convenient. NOW download a FREE ePub reader. Try Nook, Kindle, Kobo, Calibre, Stanza, or Kitabu for a start. There are others. ALSO Firefox has an extension that reads ePub books. Use Firefox help to learn how to activate it.
I'm disappointed that Apple does not state this in their iTunes requirements. At least they could have said that it is RECOMMENDED to use iBooks. If you have ereader like Nook or Kindle you may be able to read this book on them if you can load it to your reader or "cloud" account.
. As for the book being DULL…oh come on. It's a reference book! CONCENTRATE on it.
Cheers.

2. Great book -- buy it! - I have owned every copy of The Missing Manual series that David Pogue has ever written on OS X. I look forward to it almost as much as I look forward to the actual release of the new software. Pogue writes in a down-to-earth / no nonsense approach that is as full of knowledge as it is wit and charm. You have never had this much fun learning about computers if you've never read his Missing Manual books. David has made this another great book that thoroughly goes through the changes from Lion and shows the major differences so that you know what's new (great for those who know a lot about OS X anyway and just want to start living the good life with Apple's new features. We also get to see minor differences so that we don't hit a brick wall when we're asked to save our latest document in iCloud! Thanks, Dave! The book is nicely laid out and has excellent screenshots so following along is a no brainer. I just park myself in front of my computer with my iPad and start following along! Super easy and convenient! Speaking of… this copy is the first one that I've read on my iPad so it's quite a bit different. And by different, I mean vastly better! The iPad is significantly lighter than the actual book; it's easy to change and enlarge fonts based on your need; take it with you on planes and bone up on All-Things-OS X which you most surely wouldn't schlepp the real one along. And you can have multiple copies of the book. I've installed it on my iPhone and iPad along with my wife's iPhone and iPad. copies! That can be used at anytime. Someone needs help, boom, pull out your iPhone! Now, I prefer the iPad way but it's great to know that I have the great NY Times Tech guru in my pocket, so to speak, whenever trouble pops up. Unlike the review before that said "no where I can I find that the DL was going to be in ePub", I actually read the Requirements which stated that the this book required (and can ONLY BE VIEWED) using iBooks on an iPad, iPhone or iPod touch. I generally do a little reading whenever the price of something is a more than a couple of bucks. I can't imagine making a $ purchase and not bothering to read the Requirements that are inches from the BUY BUTTON. The reason that iBooks and Apps don't have the Requirements every where is because most (logical) people understand that they can only be used on iOS devices. Do I wish that iBooks could be read on a Mac? Sure,… but not for my benefit. Who wants to read a book on huge monitor?! I'd rather read it on a book-like device! This is a great book and truly is the book that should have been in the box!

1. A little something for everyone! - I heard about this book on a recent podcast from Mac Power Users with David Sparks, and it piqued my interest. It is a useful guide to making anyone a power user on Mac. The book includes helpful tutorials on every little trick! I would recommend to anyone looking to improve their productivity on Mac/iOS. 1. Average book for a cheap price - This is a really good beginning introductory book, considering you don't know about computers either a Mac or a PC. It explains stuff that you already know like making accounts, folders, and surfing the web (privacy and cookie settings). It does a good job covering about every major technique to using a Mac, but is not very detailed In each field . I felt It could have used more illustrations, but for the price compared to "Macs for Dummies" I felt I could get away with this. I read this after owning my first Mac a month later and felt that reading this was unnecessary because I already googled all of my questions rather than pic up this copy on my ipad. That being said if you really want to get the most knowledge out of your Mac just buy the Mac for dummies book. It's around $ if you get a good used one and digital copies are cheap also. This book is really not going to tell you something you can't easily find out on the web. So don't buy this, save you a couple bucks and get the Mac for dummies. Hope this helps!

1. The Complete Beginners Guide to Mac OS X El Capitan - Very useful for someone who just bought a Macbook Pro afters years of using the competition.. It’s definitely a learning curse. My only problem with the book is sometimes the writer assumes a newby knows more than we really do. This should not, however, prevent a newby from purchasing this book. It is extremely helpful.
