1. Low bitrate warning - Trying to rid myself of all kbps tracks, I deleted my kbps copy of this recording and purchased it from the iTunes Store to upgrade… only to find that it downloaded at kbps. I had thought Apple had upgraded its entire library, but apparently not. $ wasted (though it’s a wonderful record of course).

1. Well played Pandora... - Place de la Republique pretty much sold me on this album. It randomly started playing while listening to Pandora, and I took a screenshot to find it on YouTube later. After a few listens on there, I decided it was worth buying the cd. It was worth every penny. Wish they had the deluxe version on here though :/

1. Top-Notch - Firstly, Céline's French music has always been better in my opinion as it is her native language. Secondly, as a learner of French, two of the first songs that I understood came from her: "Pour que tu m'aimes encore" and "Ce n'était qu'un rêve." Favorite songs from this album: "Encore un soir" "Je nous veux"
"Les yeux au ciel"
"Si c'était à refaire" "Toutes ces choses" (Definitely in my top five of her French releases.)

2. Celine Dion fan forever!!!! - she is such an amazing woman. i wish i could meet her and tell her how much of a wonderful person she is.. her music has such depth and meaning to each song no matter if she does covers of songs or not. she is a very strong singer strong minded woman and has endured a lot of unfortunate tragedy and has overcome a lot of criticism... soon as i am able i will be buying this album.. probably on cd rather then itunes since i love my cd's hehe.. i will forever be a celine dion fan no matter what..!!!!

3. Meh - i love celine but this stinks. i like it, and i will remain a celine dion fan, but i just dont like this music. i dont understand what she is saying, therefore, i dont have the will to listen. i was expecting one or two songs in French, but not a whole album. i know that she is a Canadian, and that is a bilingual nation (French and English) however i think that she has so many fans in both nations who speak English, she should release another English album. i was waiting for this and am sadly disappointed. so sorry.

4. A Sincere & Beautiful Album - The song selections of this album is impressive, moving, and touching!!! It reminds me of the same buzz of when D'eux came out back in ...but refreshed!!! To hear Céline sing these songs, she sounds so real and 'uneffected' like before!! It's a new Céline in the works, it's quite exciting & love it all !!!! Bravo et Chapeau Céline!!!

5. Out of this world - She was on the Today earlier in July. What a beautiful lady. God has blessed us with something special. The way she carried herself and kept it together talking about her husband was amazing. She kept her cool without crying. Losing two family members two days apart is so hard. It happened to me years ago. Over time the pain easies, but the loved one you will never forget. No matter what language she sings in she belts it out.

1. No idea what she's saying and I don't care - I studied Latin and German, not French so I wouldn't say I know what she's saying when she's singing, but accompaniment of her voice and the instruments makes this music worth listening to anyways. I usually need something soft and non-verbal when I'm working to not be distracted and songs in another language work. Besides that, everything sounds beautiful.

1. Celine Dion " I Believe in you ( Je Crois En toi) - Knowing on how Celine Dion is my number favorite performer, I wish I could get a chance to see her in person! What keeps me back is due to my disability. Having every single Album of her's in English & French & a biography book her history, and a bottle of her perfume I have never used should say how much I love her!

2. It is okay! - Some of the songs are from to in here which is good for celine dion fans. And the dates are wrong on some of it as it all says . I know for a fact that some where done in the early part of her career. then there is the to that is okay part of that decade as I already have the albums. there all great. The new songs are great. If you are a Celine dion fan Buy this.

3. J'aime mieux!

1. really good!! - I've been a fan of Belinda Carlisle's solo work (and the GoGo's) since the beginning as a kid. I particularly enjoyed this because it's such a departure from her other solo work and I think her best vocal delivery ever (with her album "Real" coming in second although for whatever reason iTunes doesn't offer it). I got a chance to meet her in NYC during a meet & greet when this album came out and couldn't wait to get into my car and listen to it since she hadn't released a new album in over years. Needless to say I wasn't disappointed. If she ever releases another solo album I hope it's a little more on the edgy side like this.

2. ZUT ALORS! - A delightful surprise from Belinda Carlisle -- no pop-laden treacle here. To be honest, I had expected no less of Ms. Carlisle, as she is renowned for world class taste. And Brian Eno on keyboards -- WOW! Carlisle's rendition of Aznavour's "Jezebel" may (although some would construe this as blasphemy) easily top even Piaf's classic recording. All in all, a great buy.

3. Belinda est étonnant... - PHENOMINAL!!! Belinda is truly amazing! Her voice is so unique and her French is FLAWLESS!!! I WANT MORE!!! Je dois avoir plus ! ! Belinda est un excellent artiste si elle chante en anglais ou français, elle n'a pas compromis son intégrité artistique, non un bit ! ! ! xoxooxxoxo

4. You have to love this album even if you don't speak French!! - I have never heard of Belinda Carlisle untill my mom gave me this cd. I lived in France for a while but never heard of any of theese songs, I listened to the cd and fell in love. I then bought all of the origionals and I have to say that she did an amazing job of staying with the theme of these songs but yet giving her own twist on them! It is a great album if you are going to France or something, because some of the songs have bonus ones in english!

5. Stunning. - Belinda Carlisle's distinctive voice was always an odd fit to the slick, polished, adult-contemporary sound her solo work put forth. The tradmark vibrato and growl are put to great use on Voila. Her French is fantastic and the arrangments are fresh without being relentlessly modern. A great set of musicians plays here on a nice cross section of pop and chanson. Breathing life into standards like "Ne me quitte pass" or "La vie en rose" can't be easy at this point, but the job is done - and quite well at that. And the punch of "Jezebel" as the finale is to die for. So highly recommended - and here's to hoping this is the start of a new chapter. Next up: maybe a few classic Go-Go's or old solo hits reworked into the style and sung in French? We can only hope.

6. Incredible album - I bought this album because I love Belinda and I speak French. I love the fact that she's decided to do this album as her first in sooooo many years. It's a great collection of songs. La Vie en Rose, Contact and Avec le Temps are all my favs. I listen to this album over and over and it never gets old. Great music to drive with and listen to in the background. She's awesome.

7. Moody Melodies - I really appreciate artists who take risks. If you are expecting the Go-go's, or perfect French diction then don't purchase this music. If you are looking for French torch music from one of the US pop icons of the past decades, then check it out. Pat Benetar did something similar when she did a Jazz album and it ended up to be one of my favorites from her portfolio. I have the same feeling about this compilation from Mademoiselle Carlisle. Again, if you want the Go-go's, Go-go elsewhere.

8. Please bring back the Go Gos! - Why is everyone saying Belinda hasn't been around in a decade, did not anyone hear the CD "God Bless the Go-Go's" from I think it was ? If you haven't, do yourself a favor and get it, it has several rocking fun tracks that would have become hits if, in our youth obsessed culture, the girls were years younger! I have not bought this album but after sampling it, I felt it was better than I expected. I did groan when I saw she does a rendition of "La Vie en Rose", but it sounds like a good arrangement. Who knows, I may just buy a few tracks. :)

9. Voilà! - Voilà should’ve been a triumph; it isn’t. It’s hit-or-miss. “Ma jeunesse fout le camp” has that strange, haunting quality I love; but “La vie rose” sounds like a bad homage to disco. This whole album is like that – full of risks. Good or bad, Belinda’s voice is absolutely magical. I bought the album for the sound of her voice. And I’m not disappointed. Voilà just isn’t the Great Return I expected from an artist of Belinda Carlisle’s caliber. I like it, anyway. I just can’t help myself. I'm humming "I Still Love Him" as I type this review...

10. Belinda sings French songs... - Belinda Carlysle has a really great musical sense. Some of her greatest songs go straight to your heart broken heart :_( and stay with you for a long time. The song "Mad About You" and others are classics which we will remember Belinda by for years go come still. But I will never forget the party music of "We Got The Beat" and other songs from that album, which kept my New Wave/Punk dance moves hot while I was on the dancefloor. j.t.

11. TEN YEARS! - I LOVE BELINDA!! I WAITED TEN YEARS FOR A FRENCH POP ALBUM? THANK YOU BELINDA FOR THINKING OF US HERE IN THE US! I GUESS YOU HAVE MORE FANS IN FRANCE THEN HERE? I will just have to wait for the new Go Gos CD and hope fully good lyrics will play in this time. Bonnie and Clyde? what ever happened to great songs like MAD ABOUT YOU?
2007-02-18
12. Impressive... - As a Belinda Carlisle fan since "Mad About You", I was skeptical about Belinda's new solo effort in over a decade. Based on the reviews on this album coupled with my interest in Belinda's career, I bought the entire album and am just blown away by her efforts on this album. I even heard some of her new stuff being played at my local Starbucks in California. Impressive indeed!

13. Belinda Carlisle in French, mon dieu! - have been a good fan of Belinda so I admit was very shocked when I saw this cd in a cd store. Floored would be a better word. I listened to the cd, couldnt understand many of the words. So, I didnt think it was fair for me to rate it. However, my grandmother is french and is very critical of stuff. She hardly likes anything, well, she actually thought Belinda Carlisle spoke very well, thought her French was very good. If her French can pass her judgement then who am I to say anything otherwise. Hope she does another English one soon though. I liked the english translations too, especially La vie en rose. Nice change of beat to it

14. A Stunning Artistic Achievement!!! - Never before has Belinda's voice sounded so rich and so full of emmotion. She didn't just record an album; she created an experience. You can do nothing but surrender yourself to the journey Belinda takes you on with this collection of songs. From the haunting Bonnie Et Clyde to the—blow the roof off the joint—Jezebel, Belinda delivers sheer perfection at every turn that will surprise even her most loyal of fans. Avec Le Temps is without a doubt the greatest vocal accomplishment of her career. Her heart wrenching performance cuts right to the soul. Her performance so incredibly brilliant there is simply no language barrier. This album will serve as Belinda Carlisle's greatest legacy. An artist taking a risky chance and succeeding beyond anyone's wildest imagination. Bravo!

15. This CD Rocks!!!! Perfect with a Glass of Wine! - After a couple of listens this album rocks!! Belinda's vocals haven't had this much emotion in years. Don't understand a word of it but you get the emotional meaning of all the songs. French pop songs have a differant structure than american pop songs so at first it was a bit off setting. Like I said though, after a couple of listens--awesome!

16. This is her best work to date !!!!! - This album is an eclectic sample of styles and great songwriting, no matter what language she's singing in! It breaks your heart, then makes you wanna dance! Belinda and the brilliant Brian Eno create one of the most atmospheric albums out there! Should be in everyone's collection!

17. Voila is Superb! - This long awaited release from Belinda Carlisle is just the kind of comeback that every artist hopes to accomplish. She has definately crafted her voice and talent that has made her an international superstar. "Voila!" is sure to receive a Grammy nod for its well-crafted musical experience. Carlisle's voice is stronger than ever; allowing her to deliver a collection of the finest French Chansons and Pop Standards. Carlisle has added another noteworthy accomplishment to her legacy. "Viola!"...indeed. This CD is a must have...even if you do know French, you can still understand the emotion the Carlisle projects in each song. "Pourtant tu m'aimes" and "La vie en rose" are among the many highlights of this collection.

18. Belinda Is BACK! - After years Belinda Carlisle comes back with this great collection of french classics. who knew back in when the Go-Go's first hit it big that years later we would get a french cd from belinda. the thing is that Belinda has never sounded better and maybe just maybe this cd is the best work that she has ever done. "Avec le temps" is beautiful yet haunting. you can hear the heartbreak in belinda's voice as she sings it. the whole cd is fun, playful and french pop for the all of us to love. "Ma jeunesse foute le camp" is done so sexy and i love Belinda's strong vocals that really makes this a stand out track. the Bonus songs in english are a treat and when she sings "If you go away" you really wont want to ever leave her behind. thank you belind from all the fans who admire you for making such a great cd. we love the gift you gave us...this cd.

19. Very Nice - I wasn't expecting much out of this project, maybe a poppy version of "Frere Jacques" and a folsky sounding national anthem. Wow! what a surprise. The production is incredible. There is a nice balance of earthy, natural music and electronic, contemporary sounds. Belinda's voice is in great shape here. She has always had a sort of emotional quality but has pulled out all the stops on this album. The diversity of song styles on Voila! is given cohesion through Belinda's strong, emotional delivery. She whispers softly in your ear, holds back the tears of unrequited love, revels in the rapture of La vie en rose, and rocks out stadium style. There is something for everyone on this album. You'll dance, you'll cry, you'll love it- do it!

20. Out of left field and into the left bank - Mais Belinda! Ou est l'amour pour America, baby? You have to hand it to her for mixing it up on this solo record. No "Circle in the Sand" pop gems here, instead Ms. Carlisle reinterprets classic French torch songs and throws a few fun curveballs (She sounds like she was born to sing "Contact"). It's a confident, fun group of songs. Her trembling vibrato has rarely sounded better. Zut alors!

21. My Brain Just Vapor Locked - Okay--I have always loved Belinda Carlisle. Who among us doesn't have a dirty little secret? That said, this CD gives me a violent flashback---to high school French class! Sweet Jesus--I haven't heard French spoken this badly since then. Who came up with concept for her? Back to English, Belinda. Please!!!!

22. Merci - For her first album in years, Belinda gives us quite a treasure. I have been reading about this project for a while now and was getting skeptical about whether or not it would ever come to fruition. Thankfully for all of us, it has. Though I have all of her albums, solo and with the Go-Go's, in my opinion she has never better. The husky quality of her voice provides a definite allure and sexiness missing in today's world of in your face crassness. Bonnie at Clyde and Contact are two standout tracks that exhibit this quality. Hopefully this album will find a the larger audience it deserves and inspire you to create more music and us to explore more beyond the "art" being forced upon us on a daily basis. Welcome back Belinda. You have been greatly missed.

1. Love every song. - The only song I completely understand is Dernière Danse, But I also really Tourner Dans Le Vide as well! I like the song Ego, too. All these songs are so beautiful, and I not understanding some of them, makes it even more beautiful. (My logic? :p) anyway, I love the story behind the music. And that all I really have to say... wonderful job, keep it up

1. Jet Boy, Jet Girl. - Great song for every Punk library. This was the cutting edge, back in the day. Really. Yeah, I know, it probably means something else, but it's exactly the same song as Jet Boy, Jet Girl so go figure. An old girlfriend who prided herself on only listening to club Punk that no one else had turned me on to it. That was thirty years ago, I've been humming it on occaision ever since. Glad to have it now, for all my clients to hear whether they like it or not.

2. This song is off the hook!!!! AWESOME! - I have no clue what it's about, but it's a song that you can totally dance, dance, dance to, though it can annoy the heck out of some people. But it's just a really fun song from the ''s - what could possibly be wrong with that? I recommend it for an incredibly silly good time.

3. I Don't Speak French... - ...but I absolutely adore Ca Plane Pour Moi! The rhythm and melody are fantastically upbeat! The lyrics (that I googled) are a little bizarre, but I think French & non-French speakers will delight in this single. The other song is much weirder, so I'd stick with Ca Plane Pour Moi.

4. One of the Greatest Singles Ever - Ca plane pour moi is incredibly fun rock and roll. The guitars, the horns, the totally manic tempo, the French lyrics - Joe Strummer of the Clash also loved this song, and felt that it was more punk in its attitude than many of the more conventially punk songs of the day. "I am the king of the divan!"

1. French Rock Rules! - It took a lot of searching before I found this album, but it was worth it. Why is it so hard to find rock and roll song sang in French? I snapped this right away and recommend it to anyone who enjoys the French language and rock music in French. It has been very hard to find more music like this since, but I have found some by searching the various artists on this album. They aren't listed, but they got listed once I acquired the album, happy side effect that came with it. I also found some by searching some other music sites. It's out there, you just have to be persistent. Love this album!!!

2. Very French psychedelic-mod pop! - Reminds me of the best parts of the swingin mid 's, Bardot, Peter Sellers, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, and the Rolling Stones, Andy Warhol, Go go boots, Anita Pallenberg and Soledad Miranda! This is a must have for that cool mod-psychedelic party you're going to through at your house or in a huge warehouse somewhere! I love it baby! - Davey Love

2. Probably one of her best albums that i've heard - I first heard one of these songs last year in French class. Our teacher showed us her song tout l'or des hommes and i really liked it. So i decided to look at the rest of her songs and which album its from. They are all really good songs and i recommend buying this. Its great to listen to when you're really stressed out. I never really cared about her songs until i listen to these. to me when she sings in french it sounds so much better. My favorites are tout l'or des hommes and rien n'est vraiment fini

1. Beautiful, clever chansons - Instead of writing autobiographical songs of love and love-gone-bad, like so many songwriters, Amélie-les-Crayons writes stories of interesting characters--comedies, tragedies, dramas--but also love songs. She is a gifted lyricist and melodist. Perhaps just as importantly, these songs are beautifully arranged, with accordion, clarinet, tuba, guitar, piano, percussion, whatever it takes. She's put together a talented band of multi-instrumentalists. This album, and "La Porte Plume", are masterpieces in my opinion.

2. charming and strange - I have come to absolutely adore this album. It's funny, quirky, sad, and, yes, has great charm. The band is very tight, with its piano, accordion, reed, and bass. Amelie has a marvelous, light voice (a bit like Anna McGarrigle) that is capable of great emotional range, and she is NOT afraid to take chances. In "En mission" she actually barks like a dog --- it's hysterically funny! Yet in songs like "Petit callou" and "Ta p'tite flamme," she is very moving. and This is an album I would recommend to anyone, whether they speak French or not (I myself speak very little). If you like Paris, if you like French pop . . . well what are you waiting for?
2010-02-05
3. Very enjoyable album for those with a sense of humor - This is a delightful little sly wink of an album. The musicians are clearly having a fantastic time, the songs are all hysterical, and the music is good. It's the kind of music you might hear in a tiny cabaret somewhere in Pigalle, in which the performers are all wearing clown shoes and face paint, and are singing desperately about disintegrating relationships with their chandeliers. Recommended for adults with senses of humor, and children under who can't speak French (some of the songs are a little racy, and the aesthetic is probably a little too bizarre for kids over a certain age).

4. french chanson...with a twist - come on, people. open your ears. i can't possibly believe anyone would have something less than fantastic to say about this group. it screams paris, but not in the obnoxious way everything else does! it is some smart, cafe au lait-soaked stuff. just open your ears--open your mind--to something marvelous and new, drenched in the classic sense of music that is, essentially, france. or, don't, if you'd rather listen to avril lavigne. i don't think i'll miss you.

5. I'm Not a Connoiseur But.... - I tend to think of myself as having a variety of music likes and dislikes. Lately, I've been listening to a lot of alternative rock, video game soundtracks, as well as various types of jazz. I was looking for a new direction to take my music collection, when I came upon a CD by Putumayo called "Paris". The CD was okay overall, but I stumbled upon a hidden gem called Ta p'tite flamme by Amelie. I can't speak French for the life of me, but her voice was quite nice. I also enjoyed the musical arrangement. With that said, I looked for more of her music, and the only place I could find it, especially somewhat affordably was here. I listened to the CD, and I would have to say that this is hands down, better than most of the jazz I hear on radio today (besides Sade, she's cool). With every listen of this album, I enjoy more and more. This definitely doesn't deserve star. It's awesome French jazz music!

1. Magnifique - Im a french language student in college and when my book had her name in the first few pages and decided to give it a try. I liked her older stuff starting with Psychédélices but once i her Cinq or as we say here in the states i feel in love with her and the album and this is coming from a punk rock metal head.

2. Wicked Awesome! - I became a fan of Alizée after discovering her by pure chance. From that first song- "Moi ... Lolita", to her brand new CD "", I have enjoyed each one of her songs. She is an amazing talented singer, even if you don't know her native language, she has an uncanny ability to reach across language barriers and connect with you. If you know French, well you're in for an even reacher treat! I am astounded that she is not more popular here in the United States. She is as talented as a singer as she is beautiful. Her new album is an absolute winner, each song a sheer pleasure to listen to. The musical arrangement on each song, showcases her beautiful voice. Get this CD- you'll love it!
