1. Remarkably beautiful! - When I heard Stream of Passion were calling it quits, I must admit I was distraught. I've been a fan for years. When Marcela said she was working on a solo album I got very excited, and I became a backer for the album. I have absolutely no regrets there. Unprecedented is not metal, as many have gotten used to with Marcela, but voice and strings. It is absolutely GORGEOUS. "Hay Amores" starts with these beautiful vocalizations and just gives you chills. The whole album is full of moments like that when you feel the hairs stand up on your arms. My favorite songs are "Hay Amores", "The Treasure Hunter", "Found!", and "The Cartographers". This is definitely an album worth buying. Marcela Bovio is incredibly talented and a wonderful person. Show her your support and don't miss out on this one!

1. excellent addition to field recordings - The Bang on a Can All-Stars have done it again. I was a huge fan of the original Field Recordings album, and this new album is a perfect addition to the repertoire. With hits from a number of awesome composers, this whole collection is a must-listen for sure. Amazing job.

2. another round of bangers - Bang on a Can's first volume of "Field Recordings" was massive. with tracks like Todd Reynolds' "Seven Sundays" and Johan Johansson's "Hz". The All-Stars do it again in "More Field Recordings", with a double-disc batch of new composers contributing hybrid blends of recorded sound and expert notated composition. Contributions from Ben Frost and Dan Deacon keep it energetic, and tracks from Anna Thorvaldsdottir and Richard Reed Parry keep it vibey. A must for all experimental sound lovers.

Not afraid to dwell squarely in the tonal accessibility of the romantic ‘classical music’ tradition, he still surprises you with harmonic and rhythmic twists and turns. There is a lovely balance of moods on this recording.

3. A Thrilling Adventure - Michael Welsh’s collection The Landing Places is a risky adventure. Exhibiting an uncommon combination of traditional compositional concepts and daring peregrinations, the music is romantic, manic and highly evocative. Clearly, Welsh’s compositions are informed by much more than just classical piano repertoire. With his extensive work as an orchestrator, it comes as little surprise one detects hints of Bernard Herrmann or Elmer Bernstein. But it is Welsh’s willingness to take his music into strange and deeply personal directions that sets his work apart.

4. Insanely gorgeous - Timeless and evocative, this is the music you want when you're on a quest for truth and beauty! I love the textures in the opening piece - very fluid and aquatic, moving like waves on the open ocean. The third movement of "Music for Two Pianos" is more playful, but still introspective. It feels grounded, despite its airier, dancier shapes. In "The Landing Places", the forward motion in the piano continues, but this time it's supporting a soaring and dynamic violin melody. There are many changes in mood and energy levels, making me think of my own travels and "landing places". It's an interesting conversation to hear!

5. Imaginative Work and Much Appreciated - As I write this review, I have “Music for Two Pianos” playing. This is not the first time I have come across work by Michael Welsh, who never fails to remain innovative in his compositions. I admire his work and look forward to other compositions by Mr. Welsh.

There's really no excuses not to own this album - The entire thing is a masterpiece...it's like a caravan of gypsy wagons circling your head exploding into a fiery hoop held by a creepy ringmaster taunting a tiger who leaps into your soul and then the devil shows up and tries to make a bargain with you, but you outsmart him with your wit and because there's a tiger inside you...then you laugh like a psychopath and dance off into the sunset... Buy the album.

1. Would make Hitchcock proud! - Look, it's Avant Garde so it can be difficult to experience. However, the whole point is that; an experience. This isn't your typical billboard song of the week affair. This is the music Alfred Hitchcock would have used if he were alive today. That is to say it would make Bernard Herrmann proud. A fine first album from Mr. Samadi.
