1. Give him a grammy - He's done it! He's made the album that should make the industry stand up and pay attention......this family is music genius, music history, and music soul....Thank you Doyle for making this album and inspiring the next generation of blues purists. A soul record can still be made in today's market and nominated for a Grammy! There is a God and he loves real music!

2. A True Texas Legend - Doyle Sr. is one of the best acts to come out of Texas in a long time. I've been seeing Doyle since the early 's and he's a sincere, honest and great blues act. This album only goes to show what true Texas blues is all about. If you can catch one of his live acts, I highly reccomend it.

3. Doyle Bramhall I - For those of you trying to figure this out...this particular Doyle Bramhall is the one who was a big influence with Stevie Ray...y'all might notice the vocal style similarities. DB wrote "Change it" and Life by the Drop" I haven't heard this new album through and through..but I do know the other ones, and they are all pretty great. Doyle is one of those guys who's been well under the radar too long. (Hey Doyle, Would you please come to BOSTON?..Bring your friends Kim and Jimmy!) And yes, his son, Doyle II has some great albums as well, and has been session/touring guitarist with Clapton and Roger Waters and has some fine albums of his own and shows up in tons of other liner notes. (I really dig the Arc Angels album with Charlie Sexton). This whole group of Texas musicians- Doyle, Doyle II, "double trouble", the Fabulous Thunderbirds, Charlie Sexton... extend the legacy of Stevie Ray and the Texas/Rock/Blues genre that he embraced.

4. Not who you're thinking of - This is NOT Doyle Bramhall II that has played with Eric Clapton and was formerly with the Arc Angels...this IS Doyle Bramhall I that was a good friend of Stevie Ray Vaughn's and helped him co-write "Change it" and other tunes. A decent record... but this guy is not the singer, songwriter or guitar player that Doyle Bramhall II is. Just check out his album, with Smokestack, Welcome to see for yourself.

1. Blues Live On - I’m a longtime fan of cats like Muddy Waters, Johnny Winters, and Albert Collins, etc. After sampling Dennison’s tracks on iTunes, I looked him up on YouTube. He’s amazingly talented on guitar, and he has a killer voice. His band is tight. Here’s hoping these guys continue to bring the true grit of blues at its finest without the over saturation of editing in the recording studio. Older blues fans like me are looking for that garage band sound- not the tweaky clean sound that so many artists today seem to have.

1. Wow - get this record!! - i've been a fan of dave specter for many years and all his recordings have been terrific. this one is no exception - in fact, i think it his best ever! incredible, smoking blues guitar, with a super-fat, squalling tone carries every tune on this CD, backed with a tight, punchy band. specter plays it cool, red-hot, jazzy, soulful and always with the epitome of taste and feel. in addition to the instrumentals, the vocal tracks add some spice and flavor and are outstanding. if you are a fan of blues, soul and jazz guitar, all played by one of the genres absolute masters working today, GET THIS RECORD!!

2. Blues Guitar at it’s Finest! - Amazing album and one of the best records to come out of Chicago in years! Specter’s tone is better than ever and his original instrumentals are fresh and soulful. Otis Clay adds deep soul/blues power and Brother John Kattke’s vocals are also a highlight.
HIGHLY recommended.

3. Blues for our time - This terrific collection of songs is an outstanding example of Blues ensemble and Blues Guitar. Dave Specter has a great tone and the musicians surrounding Dave are stars themselves. The tracks in which Otis Clay performs are worth the price alone...but there is so much more. If you love Blues and Blues Guitar, don't hesitate!

1. Wonderful New Album - The most wonderful element of Seth Walker's music is that he loves to change it up yet always keeps touch with his roots. Such varied riffs that can't help but make youi move....and smile. Great new album. Especially love the title track. See him live if you have the opportunity.

1. Anthony Geraci-‘Fifty Shades of Blue' - Within the first ten seconds of Track , “Everything I Do Is Wrong,” with its soulful lyrics borne aloft by the distinctive vocals of Darrell Nulisch and the sweet, but commanding guitar tones of Monster Mike Welch, it is apparent that this album is an excellent collaboration of talent and expertise.
Pianist and composer Anthony Geraci has a long résumé of blues connections in a career that has spanned from his early days in the house band at the original House of Blues in Cambridge, Massachusetts to this current project, The Boston Blues All-Stars. Along the way, he has played with Muddy Waters, BB King, Little Milton, Big Joe Turner, Walter Horton, Big Mama Thornton, and countless other masters of the blues and was a founding member of both the Bluetones, with Sugar Ray Norcia, and Ronnie Earl’s Broadcasters. On this CD, he is joined by his Bluetones colleagues, bassist Michael “Mudcat” Ward and drummer Neil Gouvin. The drumming on most tracks is provided by another Bluetones participant, Marty Richards (known for his work with numerous rock, jazz and blues luminaries). Throughout the album, fellow Bluetones member, Monster Mike Welch demonstrates his mastery of various guitar styles that brought him to be nominated for the Blues Music Award for Instrumentalist-Guitar, standing tall in that BMA category along with Anson Funderburgh, Kid Andersen, Ronnie Earl and Sonny Landreth.
Darrell Nulisch, well-known for his long affiliation with Anson Funderburgh and the Rockets, as well as his work with James Cotton and Ronnie Earl and the Broadcasters, provides the harmonica and most of the vocals on this CD. Alternate vocalists Michelle “Evil Gal” Willson and Toni Lynn Washington, both powerful singers, bring in some additional shades of blues. The songs, varying from jump to shuffle to slow traditional blues, and even a country music number, were all written by Geraci. The variety in styles yields plenty of tasty piano, harp and guitar solos that feature the individual talents of the well-seasoned musicians. Fifty Shades of Blue has brought Mr. Geraci and his project into the BAM spotlight this year, with four nominations: Best Album, Best Traditional Album, Pinetop Perkins Piano Player, and Best Song for the album’s title song.
The CD wraps up with “Blues for David Maxwell,” a beautiful instrumental tribute that echoes Maxwell’s own breathtaking style, fading out into an ethereal farewell with jazz-flavored piano and Native American flute at the end. This excellent album deserves its BMA nominations and is well-worth adding to your shopping cart.

1. electric blues hits? - the only reason i am writing "its ok" as a review" is so maybe those younguns out there who havent listened to much of JDW's music may hear these tunes for the st time. utter a "hmm-this guy is BOMB!" and google some more.
as for the cd-i agree totally with both reviewers... same stuff different day -and more profits to be made off a dead mans butt.
SHAME ON YOU.
i saw these couple of newly released discs and scratched my balding head and uttered "jeez, i didnt know this stuff was being released" then i realized THE TRUTH. see above.
but, karma being what karma is...
regardless. anything i can hear by johnny is great-but-it feels creepy and dirty to know there are nothin but dollar signs behind it-and that most likely none of it will be going to his estate -if i am wrong- i will surely find out-karma bein karma
