1. Amazing - Everything Marc does is just magical. I keep expecting less than stellar but he just keeps knocking it out of the park. This new album SOS is no exception. When I first listened to “I’d rather drink muddy water” I closed my eyes and was immediately transported to a club on Frenchmen Street, New Orleans. Just can’t get enough. Amazing!

1. Great album (ignore the “critics”) - If Joe puts out an album inspired in blues but it’s got other influences, the haters come raining down. If the album combines classic blues or a modern rock blues album, “critics” raining down all the same. I am grateful that JB’s making music. Regardless of whether I may not like some albums as much as others, that’s what music and art are about, IMO. Thanks Joe, and thanks Bonamassa team. This album is, for me, great. Get it!

2. Joe Cool Bonamassa - I must have been under a rock but I just discovered Joe about a year ago. I been so impressed with the live recordings and now I got the Redemtion album. Wow. I have noticed you uses a lot of the same people in his live shows and on his albums. A tallented group of individuals I must say that blend into musical magic moments! Hope to see him live soon!

3. He can SING! - Joe has always been a fantastic guiter player and blues performer, but, recently, he actually showing he knows how to sing! STRONGER IN THE BROKEN PLACES is a poignant and powerful performance filled with gut wrenching nuance. I guess hanging with Beth hart is paying dividends. Atta boy, Joe!

4. Redemption - I saw Joe,// in Shreveport La., the best performance by any band I've seen in my yrs on earth . The band have more talent than most bands I've seen, and I've been going to rock shows since ,If you go you'll see and hear what I'm saying is true,oh yea the back up singers are hot ,so there ya go!

5. Another Blues Record - Based on the awesome title track Redemption, this will be another Album on the Billboard Blues Chart when it drops on September st. The title track song is exceptional and the video is great too.
I had the pleasure of seeing Joe Bonamassa in concert a few moths ago and he played another song from this new album, "just 'cos you can don't mean you should" which is also another great song. Looking forward to purchasing and jamming out to this new album.

1. Same same - Was a big Joe B fan; CDs, DVDs, autographs, signature guitars, etc. But, I haven’t brought on an albums in a while; I doubt I’ll be buying this one. Maybe it’s time that he moved on from his long time producer, and get somebody who is really able to work with His talents. This mix of riffs, runs and blocks of strange thoughts are starting to get old…

2. Joe can do no wrong! - I have been a Joe fan for many, many years. You can hear his passion for music in every album. I think this is one of his best albums. My favorite songs on here are Curtain Call And The Loyal Kind. They have a harder sound which I really like. I can’t wait to see him in concert again. Thank you Joe!

3. ??? - The people who "panned" this effort must not be TRUE Bonamassa fans. He pours his heart and soul into everything. Obviously no one has seen his latest concert tour (I have, weeks ago) to which he includes back ground singers (same singers as on the album) and they fit perfectly into the performance. Pull your head out of your as and open up your mind.

1. Hurts to give stars - I ADORE HIM!!!! Fell in love with the look, the sound, the funk... JUST LOVE HIM!!!!! Sadly, there is something incredibly off with this album... Maybe I'm just spoiled from hearing him live, but this album sounds like he is being drowned out by every thing and every one else. That is the main attraction: hearing HIM... That ghostly, sexy voice that drives me outta my mind and his incredible skills with his guitar!!! Take all of that away, burying it under WHATEVER all of "this" was, and you lose him...
I don't think he needs to branch out, try new things... as this is what he is known for. It reminds me of when ole Garth Brooks brought out his other half... Just didn't jive with me ... LEAVE HIM BE, Nashville!

2. Joe's till my fave! But this album? - I have to agree with Different Shades of Blah. Even after listening to several tracks I had to check to see if I was really listening to JB. I kept going through the tracks to try to find my beloved Joe. Don't get me wrong I'm not against change or experimentation but this album is not one that I will often play.
2015-04-20
3. Not his best work - I love Joe's other work but this album leaves me wanting. Get Back My Tomorrow and Different Shades of Blue are great songs but the rest of the album is kinda flat. I think many people who write reviews are rating the artist and not the specific work. Five stars should be for an exceptional album which this is not. Not bad just not great.

4. Bonamassa Guitar God - Joe's newest album was well worth the two year wait. Loaded with quintessential Blues riffs, every one of the tracks on this album were written by Bonamassa. This man is the reason why the Blues continues to thrive for its fans. Joe's talent and commitment to the music and his fans is evident in all he does. This new album is no different.

5. Up Another Notch - Simply put - wow !! Bonamassa is at the top of his game - he has continued to evolve as an artist and bluesman, and this album is the culmination of this evolution. I've been a fan since early days and have listened to all his albums countless times. Different Shades of Blue combines his classical blues guitar riffs we know and love, soulful lyrics, with a more upbeat and modern blues sound (the increased presence of the horns and keyboards really works). I loved every song on this album for different reasons, but came away more impressed than ever - amazing album from one of the most underrated artists of this generation.

6. Not Live, But Great Studio - Joe is not really none for his studio albums, the clean spontaneity of his live performance is just so awesome. That said, this Cd is possibly the best studio project yet. Some rammed the horns, but thats part of the blues too, as compared to being subject to Kenny G doing sax gyrations on the studio version of Bird On A Wire, Live that song was great. Can't wait to hear these songs live.
2015-01-07
7. Different shade of blues...and a very safe shade at that - This is a safe blues LP for the masses. of these songs sound like they could be on a "room full of blues" LP(Living on the moon, Igave up everything for you cept the blues and trouble town) ...not that the are bad but it is more horn and almost soul based. The best song is the title song and there are a couple of real nice surprises such as what would I do and get back my tomorrow. There aren't any glaring what was he thinking but there wasn't anty OMG I have to get this right now songs either. Joe Bonamassa is still a great guitar player and I have almost all his stuff...but for the first time ever I think Joe played it safe and when you play to to lose...welll that is exactly what happens...I hope next time he says forget it...they want guiatar here is screaming blues guitar...that is the Joe I love...this one...It's ok...

8. Hijacked - I have become an ardent JB fan over the last two years, and I think he is the foremost blues guitarist/vocalist on the scene today. But this new album sounds like it was hijacked by Hollywood (or in this case Las Vegas!). His powerful. lean, earthy blues have been overwhelmed by overproduction and overinstrumentation to the point where much of this album is barely recognizable as the JB we have come to know. In a way it reminds me of what happened to Bonnie Raitt after she gained mass appeal with Nick of Time. Oh Joe, say it ain't so!

9. Different Shades of Blue - Pre-ordered from Joe's website. On first listen, I wasn't impressed. Then I listened a second time. Liked it better. Listened a third time and started to hear all that went into this. Great work Joe, and Kevin. Joe's band is always great. Saw him earlier this year. As good as Joe is on an album. My advise is to go see him live. If you aren't a fan already, it'll make you one once you see him liive.

10. Another amazing album!!! - Just close your eyes turn it up and float away! what a sonically rich album! Joe is great don’t get me wrong but this team, these guys, have become so great over the years making great music and working together! it just sounds like they had fun and played their hearts out! Wish it had more song lol.

11. Different Shades of Blue - A Masterpiece! Excellent! Artistic Gem! Joe Bonamassa continues to blur the lines between blues and rock, and this is a perfect example. Great songs, excellent guitar as only Mr. Bonamassa can deliver, but the vocals are off the chart on this CD. Joe Bonamassa gets better and better every year. I highly recommend this CD for blues lovers, or rock lovers. Excellent work.

12. Definately Different Shades of Blue - I just received my CD and have listened to it several times. I have my favorites..."Different Shades of Blue" is the "hit" if you ask me, I can see joe's hands all over it. "I Gave Up Everything For You, 'Cept the Blues"..is just what it says, has that great bluesy sound that everyone loves, along with "Living On the Moon, Heartache Follows Wherever I go, So What Would I Do" and others. A few of the songs have the "new country" sound in my opinion with the twist of Joe's excellent guitar through out like "Get Back My Tomorrow". But you would expect that since he wrote most of the songs with country artists/writers. My least favorite is "Oh Beautiful"...the guitar riffs save it, but again, it's not one of my favorites. Overall, I love this whole album and I think any Bonamassa fan will...it's great to hear some long over due NEW/ORIGINAL music from him!! The only cover is "Hey Baby" by Jimi Hendrix. If you are new to Bonamassa you will love this album I think...as he says, music is different shades of blue. I personally like this blues/rock sound he does. I've only discovered this talented artist a couple of years ago, he never disappoints!!! You will love him too! Get this album!!!!

13. Different Shades of Blah - It hurts to type this review after anticipating this albumn for so long. I've followed Joe since he was playing in small clubs, I own every albumn and have traveled to multiple states to see him, so by no means am I late comer to the Bonamassa band wagon. But at the end of the day this albumn has one maybe two songs that will stay with me and burn into my heart. Where is the haunted sound of Dust Bowl, the loneliness of Sloe Gin, the beat and cresendo of Slow Train, Ballad of John Henry and tens of other JB songs? I always thank Joe for stretching his wings, trying new things and gaining new well deserved fans. However, sadly, here is a Bonamssa albumn that will collect dust well before it's time.

14. Good, just not great... - I have almost everything Joe has done so far in his career and this is the first one I am not loving...yet. I feel like the opening songs are a strange choice to get things started. After that, he starts in with the horns...never been a fan of horns on any album! I feel it detracts from the songs big-time. I think this definitely changes the tone on the album but just makes the whole thing seem a little disjointed at times. Secondly, I don't feel like he is playing with as much emotion on this one. There is a song or two where this comes across but seldom heard in the rest of the songs...not sure if too many guitars affected this. I really liked Driving (the last one) but this is just ok. Here's hoping these songs come across better live, that's where Joe really shines!

15. Joe Bonamaster - Different Shades of Blue, a continuation of the mastery that is Joe Bonamassa. The passion this man puts into his work is clearly evident on this album. It has everything from rock to smoky blues. If Different Shades were vinyl rather than a file on my iPod, I would have a great start to wearing the grooves all the way through.
2014-09-24
16. Whew!! - I'm about seven songs thru this new album and I needed a break. I got wore out. All I can say is WOW! I think this may be JB's best album to date, seriously. Living in the Moon was some serious R & B. As joe would say, "it's wicked good". His voice just keeps getting better and he wrote all the songs. The guitar solos are increasingly better than other albums, and his homage to some blues greats certainly shows in several songs. "I gave up everything for you" is reminiscent of a BB King tune, pick any of , and with a little Clapton-like guitar thrown in. The piano is a nice touch. After my ears cool down, I'll listen to the rest. I recommend a good pair of headphones/earbuds, so you can really hear it properly. Kudos to his producer, Kevin, this is a work of music art. Thank you very much. You know we will be expecting you to kill it again next time. I like it. Thank you JB and crew for an album really worth waiting for. Norris

17. Best in a long time! - I’m a big fan of Joe and have seen him numerous times, the first time was around I think and I remember Joe remarking on how there wasn’t many people that showed up to see him. A lot has changed since then and the last time I saw him was last year and it was a much bigger turn out and great show with the guy’s from the Vienna recording making it awesome. I really like this recording and hope he continues to release music that he has a hand in writing. The collaborations with Beth Hart and the Rock Candy Funk Party, but especially the acoustic Vienna Opera House recording shows the diversity and maturity Joe has obtained in the last few years. I would like to see Joe work with a different producer than Kevin Shirley at some point, not that there is anything wrong with the music they have created together but I’ve seen artists grow for the better when making changes and Joe has an epic recording in him I know it and am not sure he’ll get it out in the current collaboration. Anyone that likes Joe’s music will love this one as it has become one of if not my favorite already and I’m on my third time listening to it since I bought it a few hours ago, use the headphones.

18. Different Shades of Blue - Ordered through his web site and received it days ago. Have listened to it - times beginning to end. Masterful! This is an exquistely talented individual, operating at the top of his game. Joe has learned, it's all about the song. Plenty of fire with the guitar, that only Joe can do. Modern Blues at the best. No one else comes close.

19. Flashback to - Joe is simply amazing. I first saw him back in , when he opened for Lynyrd Skynyrd at the Beacon in NYC. I was by myself at the concert. You know how everyone ignores the opening act you never heard of before? I was outside at the theatre’s bar drinking a beer as was everyone else, when I first heard Joe playing. I was shocked, I immediately went back to my seat and had goose bumps listening to him, I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. When the concert was over, Joe had a small table out in the lobby selling CD’s. I think it was his folks that were selling them. I bought one on the way out and have been enjoying Joe's music ever since.

2. Soulful and carefully crafted - Keb’ Mo’s musical journey continues to mature while he remains true to his roots. This album is a perfect example of what happens when an artist mixes his talent, experience and his soul. "Somebody Hurt You” is a true testament to his unique and unmatched guitar playing and singing — a powerful song with simple lyrics and "to the point” guitar playing. Keb’ Mo’ manages to deliver with every song without playing a single unnecessary note. So Long Goodbye is a song that anyone who’s ever been in a relationship can relate to, and is a true expression of Keb’ Mo’s sensibilities. BLUESAmericana is an attempt to define the Keb’ Mo’ sound in a word, and it delivers.

1. One of the finest albums of the 's, in any genre. - A true guitar maestro's magnum opus. In a long and varied career, Gary Moore accomplished a lot, but never more than the virtuosic effort here. Great cameos, great song choices, great tone everywhere. Pure clean technique, flashy but natural, great taste. Mmmm! So good.
2017-01-27
2. Electric blues with a modern updated sound - Plenty of purist tastemongers have criticized this and Moore's other forays into blues as being too loud, too fast, too soulless, too...whatever, are missing the point entirely. If you want museum recreations of blues classics just go to a folk festival. Moore takes the blues to a place familiar to him, informed by Peter Green, Hendrix, Clapton, Beck, and Page and establishes a legitimate third generation of electric blues in doing so. This album stands with SRV or Johnny Winter's best stuff with nary a bad song on it. His own compositions hold up well enough, particularly when he has fun with the subject matter such as "Texas Strut" or "Movin' On" but its the slow burn of the title track and his cover of "As the Years Go Passing By" that add contrast and mood to what could have been a serious guitar wank-off session. Luckily, Moore finds that elusive space where technique and soul become conjoined. The added cameos by gunslinging legends Alberts King and Collins are just frosting on a delicious cake.

1. Ugh... - Die hard JB fan here! Love almost everything he does and he’s amazing live! The first half of the album is pretty good but lacks feeling. Decent songs though. The second half is where it seems JB is confused what he’s trying to do... but it comes out as a sad attempt at rock/grunge. It just isn’t good

2. ITunes Censorship? - Approximately weeks ago I decided to listen to Bonamassa’s latest and also went over posted reviews. I’ve listened to it twice and both times came away with the same thought - he continues to drift away from blues/rock and continues to come across as uninspired and pressed to put out something new. As for the reviews? Couple of weeks ago it was mostly positive but there were negative reviews. This morning I looked again and found only the positive reviews. Rather strange how this happened.

3. Its Great...But - This is a great Album. However I watched the live concert on TV a couple of weeks ago and I loved "Beyond the Silence" and couldnt wait to hear the studio version. Well when the Album dropped I listened to the whole album in one sitting and "Beyond the Silence" wasnt done on the Album the way it was in the Concert. The concert version was so much better than the sudio version. I'm hoping they will release the Concert version soon. That concert was the bomb well worth the $ I spent to watch it! Well done Joe Bonamassa and band on another great Album. Give us the Concert version.

1. Not feeling it - I have loved JB for over a decade, and seen him live a few times (and he was AMAZING). I have loved just about everything he has done. Unfortunately, this release I am not feeling it at all. His style doesn't mesh well with the songs he's covering. It feels like the "soul" of the songs is missing unlike the Kings covers..where he nailed it. There are a few good tracks, but to me it will be a pass.
2018-06-12
2. Those who can do, those who can't criticize the ones who do. - Let's address the elephant in the room. The guitar playing community has devolved into a position in which artists like Joe Bonamassa would be ostracized no matter what he would do with this album. If he took the traditional route, he would be branded as "unoriginal." If he would take a different route, all the purists would bash him for not having the "feel" or "mojo." No one on this earth would do this to a classical pianist releasing an album playing compositions of Mozart and Beethoven or a jazz singer performing Ella Fitzgerald tunes. Joe Bonamassa plays according to his own style and abilities. Yes, even the way he dresses is part of his style as an artist. Just remember, every artist has an image to sell in their records and concerts. Whether you like it or not, to each his own. Now that we got this out of the way, let's focus on the album. The live album is a snapshot of Joe's homage of some of our heroes. The vocals were great and the song choices were fantastic for the album. This theme of diving deep into Clapton, Page, and Beck have given the gateway to people discovering more great music. After seeing him recently, I was blown away by his newer material coming in September. In all, I enjoyed every minute of it.

3. Middle of the road - There are some tracks here that I like as a blues/rock fan. Love the old Joe of Rockpalast days but the new Joe, not so much. First, this was live and I have no idea what kind of sound Joe was looking for here but his guitar sound was echoed and flat. Very different than his normal tone. The keyboards seemed far to featured on this album as a whole so for those who love keyboard work will like it. Bass didnt come thru to clearly at times and others it was very transparent. Drums kicked nicely. I will keep one foot in the door just in case Joe decides to get back to punching it hot and nasty. Just too mellow for me.

4. Five Stars to a true current blues/rock legend - Most of the negative reviewers here are a bunch of deaf old dits that live in the past!!! They probably like disco & bubble gum music too... Joe is a true musical talent, good voice & phenomenal guitar player. Joe does these classic songs with absolute precision while adding his own flair. Keep up the good work Joe!!! And by the way, if you want to put out an album every week, I’ll be pleased!!! DoubleT&T

5. Lighten Up, Baby! by Jimi’sGone?! - Yeah, yeah, expectation was probly too high... But say Brit Explosion to a ‘’s rocker and all we heard was Brit Invasion. We all know where to go for the originals, BlzGtr. And we know we’re not gittin’ Hendrix or Page on stage anywhere. Bonamassa has never headlined as an incarnation; he knows how to ‘pay tribute’ to what he respects in this genre. You see him in concert bcz his love affair with that instrument charms you into mush. Any musician who can write “Woke Up Dreaming”, let alone EVER play it twice, doesn’t need the critic’s blather here on technique. (And there were some valid critiques of JoeyB...) I wanted the full on Invasion, not Pretending- as pretty as it is. He can get there one day if he wants to. But I loved this album and have already put the gems on my Playlist, (thank you for the priceless reminder!) Just made me want the Full On Brit Explosion Line up album sooner!
2018-05-24
6. Mediocre - I loved Joe’s early releases-his work with Bloodline, A New Day Yesterday and So...it’s Like That. As a blues musician myself, I can appreciate his level of technique and musicianship. In recent years he’s chosen quantity over quality-it’s not about the music, it’s about generating revenue to fund another vintage guitar or amplifier. Armani suits and expensive sunglasses don’t make a blues man-soul and passion do. Anthony Rosano, Matt Schofield, Phillip Sayce and Robben Ford are all better examples of blues and blues rock played well. For my hard earned dollar, there are better choices out there.
2018-05-20
7. Joe keeps being Joe - Haters gonna Hate!!!! Joe does another exceptional job in paying tribute to some of Britain’s greatest guitar legends. Much like he did with the Kings, Joe has picked some of the best work, that features guitar, and has done an excellent job in rendering his impression of each. Another must have for Joe fans, and if you don’t appreciate Joe, just keep that to yourself!!!
2018-05-20
8. Great covers, but need more BCC! - Seems like there is nothing Joe Bonamassa can’t play. First got into his playing on his You and Me album, where he did an excellent version of Led Zepplin’s Tea For One, with Doug Henthorn on vocals. I thought his Blues of Desolation album was pretty awesome, but by and large, his contribution to the Black Country Communion project is his best original work.
2018-05-20
9. An Instant Live Classic! - OK, so maybe Joe gets carried away with the tributes sometimes but you gotta give him credit on this one. An absolutely explosive live performance. One of those "wish you were there moments". Arrangements are spot on. The choice of songs is fantastic and illustrates his love and respect for these great artists. The band is perfect, Joe's playing is energizing, and the result is a classic live blues experience. Saw "Boogie with Stu" and "How Many More Times" played live in the St. Augustine Amphitheater a week ago and although the band is a bit different than the one on this recording, the performance was still blistering hot! Keep it up, Joe! Looking forward to your new music release this fall (hopefully).

10. Heard it before it released - I went to this concert when it was at Red Rocks. This was an incredible concert. Joe played the greats who inspired him. The first time he heard Jeff Becks Truth album he was blown away and he pays good tribute with Let Me Love You Baby. I like the mix of Cream with more modern Clapton like Pretending which by the way is really well done, one of my favorite songs on this album. But if there is one guitarist I have always loved it’s Jimmy Page and Joe does a great job playing several Zeppelin song on this album. This concert wasn’t Joes original work but it was one of the best concerts he put on and I have seen him several times. Don’t hesitate, this is a great album. Order it now and enjoy it.
2018-05-13
11. Lacks technique?? - Joe Bonamassa may not be a legend that sits alongside Clapton, Beck and Page...yet...but to say that he lacks technique compared to the legends is absurd. He has all the feel of the blues greats plus the chops of the modern shredders...a winning combination for blues-rock fans! This latest outing by the greatest blues slinger on the scene today will surely not disappoint!
2018-05-12
12. More Joe B? Absolutely! - Joe Bonamassa is in the upper echelon of singer/guitarists. His albums, both studio and live have been first rate. I totally agree with M Sibley and Nastyfoot in their assessments of the newest album and cannot understand where the first reviewer is coming from. Joe will be appearing at Red Rocks in August and I hope to be able to see it. Looking forward to the release of this album in May and hoping that a new studio album is in the works, as well.
2018-04-04
13. To each his own - I realize musical tastes vary and maybe Joe hasn’t gone into what some perceived as the echelon of guitar Gods...yet , but make no mistake as I have bared witness on several occasions seeing this guy live, he has incredible technique. He jams, rocks, rolls, boogies and everything in between. If anything, Joe has the most diverse catalog out of of the he covers here and is quickly picking up ground on the rd. If you find this boring or lacking technique then this music isn’t for you. And to be honest, I don’t quite know what you would be looking for out of this genre.
I think that if you are comparing him to others then you are not seeing the point.
Can hardly wait for the full release. stars for snippet. Sounds excellent. Something tells me it is going to be a soon enough.

1. Buy This One !!!! - If you're only going to get one Taj album, this is the one ! The band is great, songs are too. Of course I'm a bit partial to my homeboys, Chuck Blackwell and Gary"Stick"Gilmore. The late great Jesse Ed Davis plays guitar to round out this wonderful band. There's a great video of this lineup on the Rolling Stones Rock & Roll Circus.

2. Excellent - Get the "ol' folks at home too". Earthy, creative and varied. BTW : Could itunes store provide band members names and original liner notes? Taj Mahal - harmonica, Miss "National" steel bodied guitar, vocals Jesse Ed Davis - guitar, piano, brass arrangements Gary Gilmore - bass Chuck Blackwell - drums Al Kooper - piano Earl Palmer - drums

3. Don't Forget Jesse Ed Davis - I'm an American Indian from OK. This album and the "One Step Closer" album has a slide guitarist named Jesse E Daivs on these and other Taj Mahal LP's. Jesse Ed was a Kiowa Indan from OK and was a successful session musician for all the top names in the business including Erice Clapton and George Harrison on his Live at Bengladish album and played with BB King. He even has a bootleg CD he recorded with John Lennon in CA.

4. My "Ain't That a Lot of Love" addiction - “Ain’t That a Lot of Love” jacks in to the main nerve of American Pop. I can’t stop listening to it. I’m trying like hell to transcribe his version of the lyrics, which he largely rewrote. Even though I’m a casual fan of Sam & Dave (the original artists) and a Memphian, I had never heard or heard of their version. Ditto on Fabulous Thunderbirds, The Band, etc. Then one day in , when I was house-sitting in rural Mississippi for a Woodstock-generation art professor who was in Europe with her British husband, I came across their VHS of the Rolling Stones Rock & Roll Circus, which features Taj and his band performing this song, minus the horn section. My snide comment about that performance itself was that when a singer and his band get high before a performance, they should all take the same drug. The skinny, pasty musicians seemed distracted or mystified by what they were doing, but still playing well enough. Taj was driving ahead like a drill sergeant who’d eaten coffee straight from the Folgers can. His rhythmic clapping (not in the studio version) seemed more like a high school band director’s desperate attempt to push the tempo than like a percussion effect. Anyhow, the song still put the hook in me, and I eventually bought the studio track from iTunes. Wow. As far great American best-kept secrets, it ranks with Otis Redding’s majestic, stupefying cover of “Papa’s Got a Brand-New Bag” recorded “In Person” at the Whiskey a Go-Go. My favorite reaction to the song came in , when the ad agency I was working for was trying to land an account with the Memphis Grizzlies (NBA). The art department was putting together a video and slide montage to illustrate fan excitement. I was charged with finding a -second segment of “Memphis music” to back it up. I thought about Sam & Dave, Redding, Box Tops, Presley, Rev. Green, etc., but everything that immediately came to mind was either over-used, too distracting, or too flabby (sorry, Memphis Horns) for the “jock rock rolls through Memphis” vibe I needed. So I reached down deep and proposed this track. Taj Mahal is not a Memphis boy, but the song has enough Memphis heritage and Taj does sound a bit like Otis Redding here. I queued the track to : and handed the headphones to my boss, and the matter was settled immediately. The agency didn’t land the account, but the Grizzlies’ GM for business operations actually stopped their presentation to ask for the song title and artist. Baby, ain’t that a kindness?

5. Some other comments - The Apple reviewer finds the more soulful tunes to be "notable". It took me longer to get into these--not what I was listening to at the time. However they are great, with some fine brass, and Taj handles the style smoothly... BUT the core feeling of this album is formed by the delta blues styled numbers, "The Cuckoo", "Good Morning MIss Brown" and, of course, "Corinna". "Done Changed My Way of Living" always brings me up and is probably my personal favorite.

1. Etta-"Blues To The Bone" - Wow! If you are an Etta James fan of an degree, this album is a must. This is a straight-up recording of traditional blues standards, in Etta's classic style. In her dusty smokey voice delivery style, she just blisters the enclosed tunes. Not to be missed, are her renditions of "The Sky Is Falling", "Smokestack Lightning", and don't miss- "Dust My Broom". Killer! How I missed this album, I do not know. Easy to see why this album won a Grammy for "Best Traditional Blues Album".

1. Delbert McClinton is a legend! - Delbert McClinton definitely lives up to his well deserved reputation on this great recording. This may be one of his best ever. From top to bottom, these songs are well crafted with great hooks and humorous stories. Delbert is in fine form, and the musicians are top notch. Just buy it!

1. A fantastic album from a class act... - I have loved Robert Cray since the mid 's with Strong Persuader when I used to play guitar as a teen. I followed him for a bit after that but for some reason I had not listened to him for many years (just like I have not played guitar for many years). Recently, as my love for music was rekindled over the past few years, I rediscovered Robert Cray and his awesome smooth, blues, up-tempo sound - awesome guitar (one of the best), fantastic vocals, and great songs. I am listening to his entire catalogue and I find his latest album, last years That's What I Hears to be filled with non-stop quality songs - some of his best! I highly recommend you give it a listen and buy a copy! Thank you Robert Cray for continuing to make uniquely high-quality music in and beyond...

2. Great Music, Timely and Prudent Lyrics - As usual, Robert has provided great musical choices throughout this album. His guitar playing continues to elicit smiles and appreciation. Nice grooves here as well. My Baby Likes To Boogaloo is just plain fun. To the snowflakes who are whining about the lyrics....stop watching Fox News and learn something. Great music has always included the opinion of the artist.

3. Bob Is Back! - I have been a fan of Robert Cray since “Strong Persuader” () and have seen him in concert. His bluesy voice is surpassed only by his guitar skills. This album has more upbeat tempo songs than past ones. Since joining Apple Music, I am very selective about what music I download. This album was selected.

4. Bad Decision - Robert Cray is a legend in my book, I've got a lot of his music, but jumping in the Crazy Town pool of politics just turns me off. It was the same thing with the once gifted Gary Clark and I'll continue to uncheck all the artists that aim to preach. They're here to entertain us period.

1. Sucked the life out of it... - The original “A New Day Yesterday” album was full of great guitar sounds and a young and hungry Bonamassa. This is bloated, self indulgent music derived from the original and the two new original tunes are uninspired as well. Far better in the original format, this is a money grab by an artist capable of so much more. Come on Joe!

1. Foot Stompin' Blues - Great foot stompin' blues album. Mike and his band really now how to lay it down. Saw Mike at The Toad Tavern in Littleton, CO a few years back and have been a fan ever since. Great album to sit back and jam along with. If you like foot stompin', head shakin' blues, then get this album.

2. Another Great Blues Album! - Mike Zito's new CD is great. Check out Redbird, a late 's early 's psychedlic vibe to the song. Love the last minutes with the guitar solo. Highway Mama, Crazy Legs, Wasted Times and others are a another example of how his songs are getting beter and better as he matures. You got to see him live to really appreciate his talents as a musician and entertainer.

1. Even better live than in the studio - Bonamassa and his band absolutely killed it! My favorite song of his, “High Class Girl” off his newest album was on this CD so I thought I’d give it a listen. The guitar work was absolutely stellar and the vocals were even better than the ones recorded in the studio! Definitely recommend to any Bonamassa fan, or those who want to experience a true master of live performing.

1. Milwaukee sho do got the bluz - This is just a stellar album in all respects. Song writing-so original. Musicianship of the fellas playing the instruments-so tight in the bottom-such great organ and guitar. The vocals of Jeff Taylor are like nobody else-sounds like a barrel-chested super-human hoo doo man-and raise a lot of goosebump and cause the good chills . Then you guys bring in one of the best harp players out there for the past years in Milwaukee's Steve Cohen for the song "Three Forks." This album should take off like a rocket up the blues charts and I hope ITunes sells at least a million downloads to pay these guys well for this masterpiece of blues music. I've been a fan of this band for years. You make MIlwaukee and Wisconsin proud with this. Band was great at Waukesha bluesfest this weekend and can't wait for Wausau's Big Bull Falls Blues Festival next weekend. C'mon blues nation. Vault this band to the top.

1. Great Blues Album - You will not be dissapointed with this one, also check out "Bad For You Baby". Pure Blues. Gary is the "forogtten son" of blues due to his lack of "commercial hits", but his back catalog of Blues albums, songs, riffs, etc. is extensive and absolutely neccesary for your collection. If you like Stevie Ray, Clapton, etc. etc. You need to know Gary Moore....now!

1. Awesome Blues/Soul mix - Was looking for a blues artist that would be new to me. Sampled a few tracks from this release and took a chance on it. Can't stop playing it. What a classic, soulful voice that is right at home in this blues/soul mix. The guitar work is right on the money and tastefully done. Not a weak track to be found. Straight ahead great work. Would love to see this Band live and I hope they stretch the tour schedule further East. If you enjoy old school soul vocals accompanied by blues guitar, great keyboards with a stay at home downbeat from the drums and bass, pull the trigger on this one. You will not be disappointed.

1. As good as the blues ever gets - I am so lucky to live not far from Milwaukee and able to hear this band live several times a year. They are amazingly talented. Jeff Schroedl's guitar work is just so perfect with a varied styling and technique wtih each song. And what great melodies and clever lyrics that Jeff Taylor delivers with such a thunderous deep voice! They got national attention after their previous "Charmed .." album and now can hopeully get even more recognition in the blues world. A whole lotta listening pleasure comes with these tunes. If you have the chance to hearsee them live-don't blow it. Thanks for the fun fellas. Hope you sell a million downloads.

1. Good as gold - Previewed the new T-Birds album tonight and seems like a good one to get into — long time since the last and a good initial preview. Then spotted this one from one of the all-timers, and it was definitely like coming home again: Kenny Neal delivers the goods that are all too rare these days. The real deal, horns punching home, GREAT arrangements, and the satisfaction of knowing that Kenny’s got the grit and the grease coming our way. Amen!

1. O.T.! - One of the most unquie voices and players of the Blues strikes again. Deeply effecting, great musicianship, smart lyrics, and one-of-kind songwriting. Also nice he has added some guest players again. You can tell the quality of artist by the company they keep. Don't get much better then Ron Miles and Jerry Dougless. Trance Blues says it all. 1. Another good album - My favorite offerings are cane sugar and wishing well but this is a solid record. Has some catchy tunes. I like the more blues feel and less on the rock end with this effort. Changes things up a bit but still stays true to the core of the band's catalog. Keep rockin' fellow New Orleanians!

1. We are old - We like good - GOOD - music of all sorts. There is an awful lot of uninspired, mediocre, dull, boring and some quite bad music out there. Personal opinions aside, a long life allows us to know the difference. We especially like Blues, Jazz and Rock. These folks are good. They are very, very good. We about broke a hip dancing and getting lost in their tunes. BRAVA!!

1. MUCH NEEDED!!! - What an absolutely Fantastic recording!!! The Blues genre really needed a young, up and coming artist like Eddie V to bring us some raw traditional blues!!! This is Excellent front to back. The guitar licks on many songs are unbelievable, not the complexity, but in just using those old sounds. If you Love Blues music give this a listen, I know you won’t be disappointed. Imagine if they are this good on a recording, how would they be live!!!

4. Never disappoints - Legend says that Eddie V played a gig at Blind Willie’s in ATL two weeks after dropping this album. The ensuing party is legendary. Eddie’s stage presence is unmatchable. His energy sets the room ablaze like fire in the wind. Spike is behind the bar slinging drinks, people are dancing, and they even make a music video out of it. Eddie V leads the room in an electrifying evening, guiding the chaos like a steamboat down a river. The whole night, I can’t take my eyes off an azure angel entranced by her first blues show. Unforgettable. R.L. Burnside would be proud. Blues album of the century.

1. Wow. Powerful, Beautiful! - Hard to believe I am writing the first review of this awesome album. Layla Zoe is one of the most talented singers alive today. Get all you can of her. I spend most of my jamming time with Layla singing blues in the background. Layla's voice has a beautiful firmness to it; she is wonderfully expressive and easily moves through her range. What also strikes me (and impresses me) about Layla is her commitment to the blues-rock genre; she could easily be on top of the charts and should be. Gift this album to people you love - they will love you back for it.
