1. The everlasting meal - I loved it from beginning to end. I love to cook and this taught me a new thought process to use in preparation of the meal and remembering where I first ate it. My aunt used to can everything. She had a huge garden. This reminded me of her, the smell of bacon cooking and homemade pancakes on a wood burning stove. Thanks for sharing

1. Laden with emotion, you’ll be immersed in the story and the town. Until you have to tackle the recip - Polly’s life is in a tumble: a bad relationship where she capitulated to everything her ex wanted has left her homeless, jobless and near penniless. Moving away from the city and her upwardly mobile more successful friends to regain her bearings is a wrenching, but logical choice. Down the Cornwall coast is a small island, isolated by tides but offering the refuge and quiet that Polly can afford. A fews days of sukling, a massive storm that brought her someone else to focus on in the form of a puffling she would name Neil, and a community that is surviving on hard work, determination and stubbornness, she’s at loose ends. But, refuge comes in the form of kneading and tending to a loaf of bread. Soon Polly’s life is a mix of moments with Neil, struggling with the island’s bakery owner (and her landlady) and becoming a part of the town in ways she never expected. Most striking for me is the growth that Polly finds as she settles in and reintroduces herself to her baking, and the increase in her self-confidence as she realizes that her life, while not an easy one, is her own. With a dash of romance, one horribly ill-fated the other a bit more honest feeling, the story never lacks for moments to remember. Polbearne is based on the actual island of St. Michael’s Mount, the people and their connection to and controlled by the sea brings water and weather to life in a character of its own. Colgan highlights the transience of life and the overwhelming power and danger of a life at sea, using losses old and new to bring perspective and a strange sort of healing to al. Laden with emotion, you’ll be immersed in the story and the town. Until you have to tackle the recipes… I purchased a copy of the title for my personal library. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

1. Outstanding content marred by inflexible format - In some ways, this book is a joy. The photography is beautiful. The recipes are traditional and adventuresome at the same time (sometimes using less common ingredients like figs, prunes, and fennel). The recipes are surprisingly straightforward, and not complex at all. But the format of the book is a hot mess. In portrait mode, it is simply unusable. Landscape mode, well, the best I can say is that one hint is to double tap to expand the size of each page. But at that point, you have to swipe up-and-down to view the length of each page and swipe left and right to view the double pages.

1. I prefer love not hate. - I know Ree lives in Oklahoma, but her style of cooking is like a lot of southern people eat. You may like to believe that we should all eat wheat grass and drink glacier water. I like to live in a little something called reality. Considering there are more people in this country obese than not. I would like to believe that I'd rather eat my calories at my own stove than at the fast food window. Ree doesn't tell you to eat this for every meal so the other review that says her cooking should come with a health warning. I truly hope that people can decide for themselves what they like to eat. If that is wheatgrass I promise I won't judge you and hope that you don't judge me while I eat my fried chicken..and the fried skin is my favorite part.. Shhhhh :)..sorry for my soapbox sermon. Personally this is my second cook book of her's and High Heels To Tractor Wheels I highly recommend ..Keep cook in' Ree.. Never mind the haters..Love my fat redneck butt..

2. Do you work at an intense physical job every single day? If not, then.... - If not, then...this book is not for you. She is a kinder gentler version of Paula Deen. Her food is full of fat and calories in all forms. And that's OK, if you work on a ranch all day. If not, then don't bother with this book or any of the Pioneer Woman's offerings. Her book needs a health warning.

1. Wonderful! - I try to review every eBook I purchase and rarely do I rate stars because most are just not worthy. However, this one deserves more than stars! Beautifully written with TONS of basic recipes that are simple. This is not your average cookbook - I feel it is written more for a beginner because she goes step by step and gives explanations as to how and why a recipe would work. For example: put parchment paper (draw and cut circle) at bottom of springform pan so it does not stick. Makes sense, but I never thought of that! Ingredients in this book always seem to be or less with staples you should have on hand already, so I did not have to make all these small purchase to make a dish. Her recipes remind me of my grandmother, who lived in Europe on a farm :) Simple delicious cooking without the fuss that most modern chefs do nowadays. It truly goes back to basics. I love this book and would highly recommend!

1. It’s fine - The recipes are nice but nothing extremely special. Some of the dishes I wouldn’t even use a recipes for because you don’t need one. Everyone knows how to make their own breakfast sandwich or add leafy greens to an omelet. If you want it because you like Jessie by all means get it. But strictly as a cookbook, save your money and just google a recipe when you need it.

2. Must Have for Busy Wives and Moms - I’ve made a handful of these recipes so far and they’re honestly delicious. They’re super simple and easy to follow. It reminds me of family passed down recipes. My favorite part is that the ingredients are affordable and easy to find. My husband loves everything I’ve made so far. A definite must have for a busy mom!

1. Thanksgiving Must Read - I loved this book. I've been preparing Thanksgiving for years and was feeling a bit burned out. This reminded me of the importance of family, friends, good food and fine presentation. Simple but good. I checked this book out of the library largely because I can't make gravy. Apparently the turkey neck I've been throwing out for years is important. I'm looking forward to simmering my turkey stock all day! There are lots of tasty and easy recipes and tips. I've decided to download my own copy to have for an annual Thanksgiving boost and reference.

1. The Beer Bible - This is a stellar book that not only serves its stated purpose -- expounding on the pairing of beer with food -- but also serves as a great education into the fundamentals of beer, including the brewing process, the different styles, and noteworthy examples. Garrett Oliver makes a highly convincing argument that not only is beer just as sophisticated a beverage as wine -- it's also far superior for pairing with food. In addition to being a brilliant brewer, Oliver also turns out to be an excellent writer. Plus the book is filled with beautiful full-color photographs -- you wouldn't want to read this on a Kindle. Highly recommended for anyone who wants a sophisticated education on beer.

1. Very informative and valuable tips! - The cooking tips are great and always good to have in the same book you're cooking from. The recipes look amazing! I have made the Apple & Squash Soup and it was DELICIOUS!!! The recipe called for Fried Sage Leaves and that was the perfect finish for an awesome soup. The ingredients can be bought at any grocery store, so there's no need to drive all over town looking for them. Thank you Hearst books for putting together this awesome collection of recipes, tips and ideas.

1. Delicious!!! - The recipes in this book sound amazing! I love the article "Getting Drunk" by Colman Andrews. It's brilliant! The email from one author to the other was pretty great too! Even though most of these recipes are not what I would consider "every day" food, they still look and sound delicious! Received a copy in exchange for an honest review.
